Third-year law student Ricardo Parada’s experience working on complex legal issues at the University of California Office of the President helped to support the outcomes of researchers and scientists across the country 3L student Ricardo Parada discusses his experiences working with the University of California Office of the President (UCOP), which oversees a system of 10 campuses, five medical centers and three affiliated national laboratories. UC Law SF’s Corporate Counsel Externship Program places students in top legal departments What did you do in the Corporate Counsel Externship Program and why is this work important I worked as an in-house extern with UC Legal in the University of California’s Office of the President I had the opportunity to conduct research and write memoranda on complex and novel areas of law I collaborated with campus counsel at one of UC’s campuses on several matters providing guidance regarding internal UC policy and federal regulations UC Legal and its attorneys are constantly working on complex issues at the cutting edge of the law I learned that the work being done by in-house government attorneys is very similar to that of in-house corporate counsel at large companies UC is one of the largest employers in the state through its campuses It’s special because it helps to ensure that researchers and scientists at one of the leading research institutions in the country can continue their important work How does this experience support your career goals I came to UC Law SF with the explicit goal of making the most out of attending school in such a diverse and prestigious legal community This experience gave me the rare opportunity to gain early exposure to working in-house with a legal department it allowed me to contribute to making a positive impact in my community It also heightened my interest and enthusiasm in pursuing a career in government law Would you recommend UC Law SF and this program Professors Geevargis and Darling provided valuable insight and guidance that helped me excel in my placement UC Law SF is unique in providing this experience especially considering its strategic location in such a robust and critical legal market I appreciated the opportunity to pursue a placement with a nonprofit and governmental organization and I hope that future students can continue to gain such valuable experience while making a positive impact on the local community and California more broadly What’s your favorite UC Law SF memory so far I learned that one of my undergraduate professors at Occidental College would be teaching at UC Law SF I’m interested in pursuing a social justice-oriented career and had taken a course called Rebellious Lawyering with Thalia González so I was excited to take her courses at UC Law SF The Evidence of Success series highlights UC Law SF students as they share how the college’s opportunities equip them with the experience and confidence to excel in the legal profession With an exceptional number of The Georgia Tech product made a nice first impression with a .880 OPS throughout his first 13 games in ‘22 The New York Mets drafted Kevin Parada 11th overall in the 2022 draft. Parada was considered one of the best draft prospects at the time. Both MLB Pipeline and Baseball America ranked Parada as the sixth-best draft prospect Parada then entered 2023 as a consensus top 50 prospect But he turned in a solid but unspectacular .248/.324/.428 triple-slash Parada hit for some power with a .179 isolated slugging percentage and 14 homers in 457 plate appearances But he only walked at a 7.9% rate with a poor 27.6% strikeout rate But Parada is coming off a worryingly bad campaign the former first-rounder batted a meager .213/.304/.359 with a .307 wOBA and 93 wRC+ Parada may have upped his walk rate to 9.9% but he struck out over a third of the time with a 33.6% K% His power output also declined from last season Parada never projected as a Gold Glove-caliber backstop but he allowed 15 passed balls in just 600 innings of work behind the dish Pipeline and BA both grade his arm out at a 40 on the 20-80 scale Parada also struggled with framing pitches But as Parada has been floundering in the minor leagues Francisco Alvarez has proven himself to be this team’s long-term catcher Alvarez is batting .222/.294/.422 with a .310 wOBA Alvarez has delivered on his plus power potential with 36 dingers in 765 plate appearances and a .200 isolated slugging percentage Alvarez has also been a great defender with +6 defensive runs saved and the 16th-best poptime among qualified catchers If the Mets try to trade Parada this off-season they probably won’t get much beyond a low-level flier The only possible way the Mets get anything of value out of Parada is if he is included in a larger trade where two or even three other Mets players are involved it may be better for the Mets to see if he can even figure things out © 2025 Minute Media - All Rights Reserved Betting and gambling content is intended for individuals 21+ and is based on individual commentators' opinions and not that of Minute Media or its affiliates and related brands The Mets won't get a lot if they trade this former Mets first round pick A Socorro man was arrested on suspicion of intoxicated manslaughter in the death of his passenger in a car crash in El Paso’s Lower Valley was driving a 2016 Toyota Tacoma at a high rate of speed in the 700 block of South Zaragoza Road near the Cesar Chavez Border Highway about 1 p.m Parada was allegedly speeding south on Zaragoza Road when he lost control of the truck Mendez was seriously injured in the wreck and taken to a hospital for treatment More: Migrant 'riot' charges dismissed again by El Paso county court judge Parada was allegedly intoxicated when officers arrived at the crash An investigation revealed Parada fled from Ysleta Del Sur Pueblo Tribal Police Department officers before the crash No other information was provided on that incident He was arrested on suspicion of intoxicated manslaughter into the El Paso County Jail on a $110,000 bond Parada has yet to post bail as of Monday afternoon This is the 30th traffic-related death of 2024 compared to 31 at this same time last year Aaron Martinez may be reached at amartinez1@elpasotimes.com or on Twitter @AMartinezEPT Lydia Lozano has surprised with the gesture she has made | en.edatv.news, TVE LIFESTYLE Lydia Lozano's Firm Message to José Manuel Parada in 'D Corazón': 'Stop Already...'The well-known collaborator has dedicated some very forceful words to the host for a significant reason29/03/2025 17:07:00h by María Merino Lydia Lozano gave an interview today on the show D Corazón She took the opportunity to send a strong message to José Manuel Parada The Canary Islander doesn't hesitate to react when she feels that her loved ones aren't being treated correctly she wanted to dedicate a few words to José Manuel Parada Thus, Lydia Lozano has shown herself to be strong and direct. he’s bumped his OPS to .887 on the year David Peterson had an excellent start for Syracuse as he continues to work his way back to the Majors The southpaw was one out short of a quality start but his outing was quality in every other way relieved Peterson and had a scoreless outing of 1 1/3 innings before Tyler Jay had a scoreless inning of his own Things got hairy in the ninth with Yacksel Ríos on the mound as Ríos allowed two runs on four walks and no hits the Mets pulled Ríos and called on Danny Young to record the final out BOX SCORE the Binghamton Rumble Ponies also won by a 5-3 score on Wednesday The Rumble Ponies cashed in two in the first inning on a Rhylan Thomas single and a passed ball but gave up two in the third to tie the game back up Binghamton went back in front in the bottom of the inning on a Kevin Parada solo shot but Bowie again tied the game back up in the fifth inning Photo by Bronson Harris of Binghamton Rumble Ponies The game remained knotted at 3-3 until the eighth inning when Jaylen Palmer delivered a two-run homer as the Rumble Ponies held on for the 5-3 win now has an OPS over 1.000 in a small sample size to begin his season Joander Suarez entered Sunday’s action with a 2.17 ERA but ran into trouble early in this game He lasted just 2 2/3 innings and gave up two runs while allowing five baserunners Carlos Guzman followed him and allowed a run in 2 1/3 innings but the rest of the bullpen did a solid job quieting Bowie’s offense and Trey McLoughlin combined for four shutout innings Following the game, Rhylan Thomas and Blade Tidwell were both promoted to Triple-A Syracuse due to their great starts to the year BOX SCORE The Brooklyn Cyclones defeated the Bowling Green Hot Rods 8-5 on Sunday Eight of the nine batters in the lineup recorded a hit Even though the Hot Rods scored first in this game Brooklyn responded quickly and jumped out to an 8-1 lead by the fifth inning The Hot Rods eventually cut the Cyclones’ lead down to three but they couldn’t do enough as Brooklyn secured the win The Brooklyn pitching staff combined for 14 strikeouts and The one negative performance came from Victor Castaneda who allowed three runs on five hits in one inning Jawilme Ramirez’s lone blemish was a solo home run and Jake Stevenson struck out five in two scoreless innings of work Justin Lawson allowed a run in two innings and Joshua Cornielly shut the door with his fifth save of the year BOX SCORE Lucie Mets fell to the Palm Beach Cardinals 10-6 on Sunday Jeffry Rosa and Ronald Hernandez were the highlights of the day as the 3-hole and cleanup batters combined for seven hits in ten at-bats though they did enter the bottom of the fourth inning in a 3-3 tie The Cardinals then scored five runs and put the Mets in a deficit they couldn’t surmount as the three combined to allow ten runs (nine earned) in the first 6 1/3 innings of the game as he allowed five runs (four earned) in just 2/3 innings of work The offense hasn’t always been there this year for St the opponent also seems to have an offensive outburst and it was another frustrating loss for St Posted by | May 9 Disclaimer: All prospects rankings were made in the preseason and have not been adjusted for play in 2024 It has been an extremely rough go of it for a player who was once regarded as the New York Mets’ top prospect. Steadily, since his debut in the system back in 2022, catcher/designated hitter Kevin Parada has continued to fall on extremely tough times The moment he got drafted it was projected that his defense would need to come a long way and so much so that catcher was likely not his position of the future which is extremely troublesome given that was the main reason why he was drafted 11th overall The New York Mets originally selected the California-native with their first of two first-round picks during the 2022 MLB Amateur Draft. Before the draft, Parada was a consensus, fringe top-five pick (Keith Law, MLB.com and ESPN all rated him inside the top seven) Photos by Bronson Harris of Binghamton Rumble Ponies As a result of his terrific collegiate career he was drafted 11th overall by the Mets in what several deemed a “steal” at the time He then finished the season split between the Florida Complex League and in Low-A ball with the St He performed well in an extremely small sample size He struck out only one more time than he walked and ended up winning the league title with St in his first full professional season with the Mets Parada spent a majority of his time with two different teams within the system where he mustered a respectable .787 OPS across 340 at-bats Parada slugged 11 home runs and totaled 36 extra-base hits to go along with 42 RBIs this is where his strikeout problem started rearing its ugly head Parada posted an above-average 25.1% strikeout rate and walked a below-average 7.9% of the time Parada was then called up to Double-A Binghamton toward the end of the season where he struggled mightily across 60 at-bats He hit a woeful .185 and posted a meager .639 OPS Parada struck out an extremely troublesome 38.3% of the time and owned a walk rate below 7.0% His wRC+ dropped from 115 in High-A in 2023 to only 70 Parada allowed a staggering 129 stolen bases across only 72 games posting a caught stealing rate of only 18% (for comparison’s sake the MLB average caught stealing rate is 31%) Those defensive issues carried into the Arizona Fall League (AFL) and followed him into this season with Double-A Binghamton he allowed 36 stolen bases while only throwing out five runners (12% caught stealing rate) throwing out only three (13% caught stealing rate) controlling the run game is not the only job of a catcher Every indication points to the projections pre-draft that the catcher position is not feasible for Parada as his career goes on He already started seven of his 22 games played this season in the designated hitter spot he has not started at any other position during his tenure in the Mets’ organization the bat has been once again very troubling for Parada in 2024 His .536 OPS is on track to be the lowest of his career and his strikeout rate is still elevated at 31.2% as evident by the .256 slugging percentage and an isolated power (ISO) of only .090 This mark is not only way off the general .140 average but much lower than his .116 career mark Parada started the season with Double-A Binghamton and projects to be there until he can figure it out it is imperative that the once thought of “steal” of the draft starts to come around His current form for Binghamton is pretty off his career averages across his young professional career If he wants to be considered a legit top-10 prospect in a strong Mets system getting the strikeout rate down is a must which should help him increase his overall play One potential sign of hope is his walk rate to begin 2024 is closer to where it was when he first began his professional career (11.8%) he can parlay the better pitch selection into better production Iif these rankings were done now (all rankings were created during the preseason) Parada would find himself comfortably outside the top 10 the former top prospect finds a way to start developing like many thought he would COVID-19 Updates Vaccine and Booster Information View All Media Advisories View All Speeches & Testimony Sign up for a newsletter or update your subscription preferences Luis Parada has an extended and recognized experience advising local and foreign clients in matters adaptation of gig economy services to local standards compensation and benefits for senior executives high complexity labor litigation and internal investigations (i.e termination of high ranked officers and reductions in force board directors and managers training sessions He also regularly advises clients about workforce restructuring and outsourcing proprietary information and assignment of invention agreements implementing employment restrictive covenants and tax contingencies of labor matters Luis leads the Labor & Employment practice group of DLA Piper Chile and serves as Latin America’s Practice Group Leader in Employment Luis also participates in the Legal Commission of the Chilean Commerce and is also a regular member of the Employment Commissions of the following business associations: Chilean Commerce Services and Tourism Chamber (CNC) and Asociación de Industrias Metalúrgicas y Metalmecánicas A.G DLA Piper lawyers and practices ranked in Chambers Latin America 2025 Startups: Labor and employment challenges and opportunities Chile: Six key Karin’s Law requirements for employers DLA Piper is a global law firm operating through various separate and distinct legal entities. and the Mariners signed first-rounder Ford last year 215-pound prep senior from Maryland – is Georgia Tech’s next star catcher “Lamar is having a tremendous high school season and there’s a lot of heat rolling in on him,” Hall said “We are starting to sweat (that he may sign a pro contract out of high school) “A cross-checker I know told his area scout His 20 doubles led the ACC through the NCAA regionals after a winter spent mostly in the weight room with Georgia Tech player-development coach Parada has turned those two-baggers into leisurely strolls around the bases He estimates he gained 15 pounds due to his weight-training regimen “I hit a lot of balls off the top of the wall last year,” said Parada who has a 3.55 grade-point average and is majoring in Business with a focus on Marketing which Parada – asked to define it – calls “interesting.” “I tried to put my body in the most athletic position possible,” Parada said “I know that visually it’s not the appealing (stance) for everyone but it’s the most comfortable position for my body going 7-for-8 on steals while also legging out a triple against Florida State He is also close to breaking the school record for homers – he trails only Anthony Maisano (25) and Mark Fisher (24) Parada has played all 49 games for Georgia Tech (28-21) Parada wears glasses – they have become part of his brand he said – and he clearly sees the ball well It’s his defense that pales in comparison to his prowess at the plate After throwing out just 7-for-59 runners attempting to steal last year Parada went through an offseason throwing program that continues to this day who said his catcher’s defense was an issue “I can throw him a tough slider in the dirt,” Maxwell said “and I have full confidence he will corral it.” Parada doesn’t run from questions about his supposed weakness “My defense has always been my downfall in the game,” he said “I’m always going to have to continue to work twice as hard to get as good as I am at hitting But I think I’ve really improved the past couple of years especially at Georgia Tech with guys who throw mid/upper 90s That’s helped me get better at receiving.” Another big moment for Parada came this past summer when he worked with veteran coach Jerry Weinstein of USA Baseball Weinstein taught Parada to catch from one knee “A lot of people had talked to me about (one-knee catching) but I never understood the ins and outs of it (until this past summer),” Parada said “Jerry helped break it down and explain why I should do it and it’s helped me drastically with receiving “It just frees your body up to be able to catch more consistently without having the restrictions you would have with a normal squat especially when guys are throwing as hard as they are with as much movement It gives you more freedom with the glove.” D1Baseball.com is your online home for college baseball scores, schedules, standings, statistics, analysis, features, podcasts and prospect coverage.
