Legal proceedings for Phi Gamma Delta hazing defendant Benjamin Parres were delayed time and time again until after the trial of Ryan Delanty
Parres was to be a witness in Delanty's trial
Delanty isn't going to trial, but instead pleaded guilty to misdemeanors and was sentenced Friday to six months in jail and six months in home detention during an emotional hearing
The prosecution on Tuesday dismissed the charges against Parres, of Chesterfield. He was charged with felony hazing and misdemeanors
at the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity house at the University of Missouri
resulted in alcohol poisoning for freshman pledge Danny Santulli
The brain damage it caused left Santulli unable to see
Santulli is under constant care from his family in Minnesota
Several other defendants have pleaded guilty to lesser charges and been sentenced to short jail sentences
Hearings for defendants John O'Neill and Samuel Lane are scheduled for next month
but it's not clear if their charges also will be dismissed

Three former Phi Gamma Delta fraternity — commonly known as Fiji — members at the University of Missouri had their felony hazing cases dismissed after agreeing to be cooperating witnesses in a connected case
Benjamin Parres and John James "Jack" O'Neill entered into deferral agreements after agreeing to cooperate and testify against Danny Santulli's "pledge father" Ryan Delanty if his case went to trial
the Boone County Prosecuting Attorney's Office confirmed to KOMU 8 News on Tuesday
The hazing cases are in connection to a October 2021 Fiji fraternity party that left Santulli with brain injuries
Lane was the Fiji president at the time of the incident
and O'Neill served as the MU fraternity's live-in house supervisor
All three agreements require the defendants to meet several conditions such as community service and completing a Mothers Against Drunk Driving Impact Panel
assistant prosecuting attorney Nick Komoroski said
The cases were dismissed without prejudice
meaning new criminal cases could be filed against the individuals if they violate the agreement
A total of 11 people were charged in the case
Benjamin Karl's felony hazing case is the only case that remains unresolved

WindEurope’s Board of Directors has elected José Luis Blanco
as the Association’s new Chair for an 18-month term
The election comes one week after European Commission President von der Leyen announced a new “Wind Power Package” to support Europe’s struggling wind energy supply chain
Today WindEurope’s Board of Directors has elected José Luis Blanco
as the Association’s new Chair and Alfredo Parres
The election comes one week after European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in her “State of the Union” speech announced a new “Wind Power Package” and underlined that “the future of our clean tech industry has to be made in Europe”
The European Union wants much more home-grown and competitive wind energy to decarbonise its energy system and to reduce its dependence on imported fossil fuels
The EU and Governments have set ambitious targets – 420 GW of wind energy by 2030
But the reality in the wind industry does not reflect this ambition
The struggles of the European wind supply chain result in Chinese turbine manufacturers now winning first orders in Europe
looser standards and unconventional financial terms
There is a very real risk that the expansion of wind energy will be made in China
Commenting on his appointment, José Luis Blanco said: “We welcome European Commission President von der Leyen’s repeated commitment to supporting a Green Deal “made in Europe”
It is set to provide jobs to 450,000 Europeans by 2030
But Europe’s wind turbine manufacturers and their suppliers are under pressure
The EU’s “Wind Power Package” must further accelerate permitting
get the auction design for wind energy right and strengthen and expand EU manufacturing and supply chains
the EU will not be able to de-risk and increase the resilience of its energy supply and economy
The announced measures cannot come soon enough.”
The European Commission and European Parliament want to accelerate the electrification of Europe’s economy
This makes the build-out and optimisation of Europe’s its electricity grids indispensable
Alfredo Parres commented: “Electricity grids are the backbone of Europe’s decarbonised future energy system
Europe must double its annual investment in electricity grids to deliver a seamless integration of renewable energy in line with the EU 2030 targets
The EU must strengthen and expand its current grid supply chain to avoid bottlenecks in offshore substations
To accelerate the expansion and optimisation of Europe’s grids the EU must radically simplify grid planning processes and clarify rules on grid connection and curtailment.”
The Renewable Energy Directive revision has brought important improvements to wind energy planning and permitting
Now it’s time for Member States to implement these positive changes
*José Luis Blanco serves as CEO of Nordex Group for more than six years
Before that he held different roles within the wind industry
among them more than 3 years as CEO Wind Power at Acciona and different management roles at Gamesa
*Alfredo Parres is working as Head of Renewables at Hitachi Energy for two years
Before that he has worked more than 20 years at ABB where he held different positions focusing on in the seamless integration of renewable energies into the grid
His customers included turbine manufacturers
and Harrison Reichman each had court appearances on Monday
Previous court documents have named O'Neil as the Phi Gamma Delta house father at MU
Parres as the "pledge educator," and Morrison as a fraternity brother
An attorney for the victim's family said surveillance footage from the night of the incident shows Reichman attempting to pick up the unconscious victim in an effort to take him outside
attorneys noted a hefty amount of evidence to sift through ahead of a trial
Attorneys for several of the defendants have alluded to large amounts of evidence to go through in these cases
much of this comes from hours of surveillance footage showing the night of the incident
drinking and taking part in different rituals before an unconscious Santulli is left alone on a couch
Judges set new hearings for each of the four defendants: Morrison and Reichman will have court appearances on January 30
and O'Neil and Parres will have hearings on February 6

Jeremy Maclin had the nickname "Smiley" as a child, which is impressive considering his rough childhood as detailed in a New York Times feature story in 2007
where his father left the family when Maclin was just 7 months and his siblings were 8 and 4
worked two jobs to keep the family afloat while Maclin's older brother
changed his baby brother's diapers and prepared meals
saw him climbing through a window on a chilly October night because he was locked out of his own house
Maclin was all-but-legally adopted by the Parres family during his sophomore year of high school
"They all made me who I am today," Maclin said
Maclin was ranked the nation's No. 24 wide receiver prospect coming out of high school (Rivals), and the third-best prospect overall in Missouri. He earned first-team all-state honors as a wideout, returner and safety. He shined on the basketball court too, where he was an honorable mention all-state guard who averaged 13 points, five assists and four steals per game as a junior at Kirkwood High School
Maclin only played two seasons at the University of Missouri
rushing for 669 yards and posting 2,626 return yards
which led to him being the 19th pick of the 2009 draft and third wide receiver off the board behind Darrius Heyward Bey (No
During Maclin's two biggest seasons in 2014 and 2015
Maclin caught 85 for 1,318 yards in his final year with the Philadelphia Eagles
Maclin caught 87 of 88 passes in his first year with the Chiefs
He had the best drop rate in the NFL both of those years
Maclin married Adia Kuzma on May 20 in a star-studded wedding that featured former teammates LeSean McCoy
Adia grew up in Baltimore (she went to Hilton Elementary School) before moving to Philadelphia when she was 9 or 10
Check out some photos and videos from their wedding:

A felony charge against a former University of Missouri fraternity member accused in the hazing of Danny Santulli has been dismissed without prejudice
according to an email from Boone County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Nicholas Komoroski
Komoroski stated that Parres entered a deferral agreement
which includes performing community service and completing a Mothers Against Drunk Driving Victim Impact Panel
Parres entered the agreement after he was a “cooperating witness” in the state’s case against Ryan Delanty
Delanty was the "pledge dad" of Santulli when Santulli became unresponsive after drinking at an October 2021 Phi Gamma Delta fraternity party
Delanty "recklessly caused serious physical injury" to Santulli by giving him alcohol and encouraging him to drink it
Santulli was left unable to walk, talk or see after suffering a traumatic brain injury that night
Komoroski wrote that Parres could still be charged if he violates the deferral agreement
A number of accused fraternity members have taken plea deals in the case:
Samuel Lane and Benjamin Karl, both of Columbia, are both charged with felony hazing. A hearing for Lane’s case is set for 9 a.m
while Karl’s next hearing is scheduled at 10 a.m

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
he’s on my sweet spot,” John Stamos-as-Uncle Jesse Katsopolis pleads to the referee of his in-progress charity three-on-three basketball game
“I can’t find pants,” Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (as himself) matter-of-factly replies
That joke lands just before one of the more unlikely game-winners in scripted television history
whose basketball ability had been proved to be worse than the family dog’s earlier in the episode
launches and buries a contested deep shot from the right side to propel his team (also featuring Danny Tanner and Joey Gladstone
If you were a late-’80s or ’90s kid (or the parent of one)
“Full House” was a prime time or after-school staple
And midway through the series’ eighth and final season
the family-friendly sitcom welcomed one of its more prominent guest stars
an awkwardly dreadful player during the bulk of the game
Jesse pleads to let him take a shot from his sweet spot — a feat he believes will make toddler sons Nicky and Alex proud of him
Abdul-Jabbar’s eavesdropping on the huddle helps persuade D.J
that the other team will never expect Jesse to get the ball
Though a defender is standing on Jesse’s spot — leading to the funny exchange with Abdul-Jabbar — Jesse drills a more challenging shot that even Abdul-Jabbar calls “amazing.”
‘Kareem Abdul-Jabbar taught me how to play basketball.’”
“Why don’t we keep that as our little secret?” Abdul-Jabbar says
it does not matter that Nicky and Alex missed Jesse’s big moment because they were on a “potty break.” Their dad is their hero no matter what
here’s-the-life-lesson music plays in the background as they wrap each other in hugs
To reminisce about this episode more than 25 years later
The Athletic tracked down writer Laurie Parres
producer and crew member includes work on “Charmed,” “Spin City” and “The Golden Girls.” But “Air Jesse” was “very special,” she said
because it was her first solo television writing credit that got produced
“I was a baby writer,” she recently recalled by phone
And then when Kareem was in it … going back to 25 years ago
Here are some of Parres’ other memories of working on that episode:
When Parres moved to Los Angeles from Michigan
a historic beachside seafood restaurant off the Pacific Coast Highway
The Lakers were frequent visitors
“The basketball players used to come in and hang out and watch games,” Parres said
Kareem is here.’ So for him to be in my episode was really exciting.”
Parres had started on “Full House” as a writers’ assistant
And as part of the show’s periodic effort to give breaks to greener writers
Parres received the call-up for this episode
She acknowledges that the overarching storyline had already been created
And any writers’ room is a collaborative effort to outline
One of the areas Parres needed assistance: basketball jargon
“The guys were trying to explain to me what a pick was,” Parres said
It was a lot like when I wrote an episode of ‘Odd Squad,’ which is a PBS show and it teaches math to 5-year-olds
I was horrified that I had to look up the difference between a number and a numeral
“Writing about basketball for me was like writing about math
Abdul-Jabbar already had several television and film credits
the staff took care while writing for somebody who was not a full-time actor
Parres remembers wanting to play to Abdul-Jabbar’s strengths
“He was great in terms of being very dry with his reactions toward John (Stamos)
He could not make people feel more at ease on set
everybody setting him up to win as much as they possibly could
Parres recalls a buzz from the studio audience and crew when Abdul-Jabbar was on set
his opening scene featured his trademark shot
But he did not sink the sky hook on the first try
because the stage was so small,” Parres said
“But it took him more than a couple tries to get the basket in front of our live audience
Uncle Jesse receives general shooting tips from Abdul-Jabbar
(played by Candace Cameron Bure) demonstrates the most basketball acumen in the episode
When Jesse asks why he’s never supposed to shoot
says it’s because he’s the team’s “defensive specialist” (then jokes that whoever Jesse guards will undoubtedly be the opposing team’s leading scorer)
Before switching the final play to set up Jesse
she initially directs Joey (Dave Coulier) to set a pick for Danny (Bob Saget) at the top of the key
This would be great representation for sports-loving young women in 2020
“Candace was this cool chick who knew how to play basketball and could coach the guys,” Parres said
Abdul-Jabbar was not the only famous guest star in this episode
About two years before “Air Bud” was released
Buddy the Wonder Dog appeared briefly as family dog Comet
jumps and pokes the ball with his nose up into the basket
let’s see if I can teach my dog to play basketball,’” Parres said
a squishy basketball that looked like a real basketball
We weren’t throwing an actual basketball at the dog’s nose
(Read more about Buddy the Wonder Dog in The Athletic’s terrific oral history of “Air Bud,” which appeared in our sports movie package)
Parres estimates it took about three hours to record one episode of “Full House” in front of a live studio audience
And she imagines the high adrenaline feels much like a basketball game
the writers scrambled to pitch alternatives and rewrote on the spot
the actor would try the new line for the next take
“You’ve only got a couple minutes to get that winning pitch in
Everybody’s just tossing everything they can into the middle
That’s sort of when the fun in the moment is
Parres wanted to commemorate her career accomplishment by getting her script cover signed
Parres noticed he did not include his first name on the autograph
“One of the guys (from the writers’ room) who knows basketball goes
He saves Kareem for the big money,’” Parres said
He was a forward-thinking guy in that way.”

Diversity and inclusion are the core of our success
Adrian Timbus invites wind power experts and energy transition leaders to share their perspectives on how the offshore wind sector is evolving
Vice President of Renewable Projects at Equinor
sets out how the Norwegian company is helping to bring down costs in the offshore wind sector by applying knowledge and transferring technologies from its oil and gas business
including drones that assess wind farm blades and autonomous inspection vehicles that can operate both on subsea and above sea levels
Head of Renewables at Hitachi ABB Power Grids
explains how HVDC technology is central to connecting wind farms located increasingly far away
and how sharing data and evolving the operation and maintenance practices need to become the norm to help cut costs
Wind power is one of humanity’s biggest hopes for an affordable
being one of the preferred technologies – alongside solar – for energy companies to invest in
we must go to the seas and oceans to satisfy our current and future sustainable energy needs
But this is not a task for everyone – it takes courage
And not many companies are capable of operating offshore assets
which need to stand up to constant exposure from nature’s harshest elements
Norway’s Equinor is one of the first oil and gas majors to enter the offshore wind market
The company has decades of experience with building and operating large offshore energy infrastructures
Hitachi ABB Power Grids has supported wind turbine manufacturers and operators of wind farms with innovative solutions
the wind pioneer is contributing to the transformation of the industry – making wind energy a resilient and reliable power generation technology
Both companies are planning to take the offshore wind sector to the next level
Offshore wind has shown its competitiveness compared with other sustainable energy sources
The segment however needs to use all the available intelligence to further innovate and prove its competitiveness.
Scaling up power levels makes turbines more efficient and harvests more wind energy.
“But to optimize costs across the overall system
one needs to also consider the voltage level at which the equipment operates
our studies show that we can get a higher efficiency and a lower cost of the overall system if we use 132 kV voltage levels,” explains Alfredo Parres
we were developing 600 to 700 MW wind farms
The addition of 1.5 to 2 GW wind farms that we see ahead creates constraint-related questions for grid connection capacity. For these wind farms
we need efficient and resilient transmission solutions such as HVDC operating at extra high voltage levels.
That’s something we would expect to work on together with technology leaders like Hitachi ABB Power Grids,” says Rajnish.
we think that floating wind is going to be a key technology for achieving our climate ambitions towards 2050
our ambition is to reduce capex by another 40 percent,” he continues
“Scaling these projects from one turbine to five turbines to 11 turbines has brought these cost reductions
Scale is really important to make further cost reductions and to make floating wind more competitive
We expect that in the next ten years it will be very competitive with fixed wind
but scale is needed for that and that comes with industrialization and volume through mass production
We need policymakers and authorities to be clear on their ambitions and to make statements about deploying offshore floating wind
has done a good thing in proposing a third pot for the Contract for Difference (CfD) dedicated to floating wind technologies
incentivizing developers to develop and mature floating wind solutions
The UK has in fact set a clear target of developing 1 GW of floating offshore wind by 2030
In this way the projects don’t compete with fixed offshore wind farms in the subsidy allocation rounds,” concludes Rajnish.
“Together with our partners, we analyzed and concluded that floating solutions are very much feasible. We simulated and tested the behaviour of electrical components in both wind turbines and substations
There are no technology barriers to develop and scale up floating solutions,” says Alfredo
“We need to standardize the floating systems in order for the industry to align and contribute to the scaling up,” he continues
“We are bringing a lot of technical development from our oil and gas business over to offshore wind
Equinor has always been at the forefront of utilizing new technologies and we’ve been working a lot with digitalization
we have been using drones for the inspection of blades
we have used autonomous subsea inspection vehicles which we can also utilize for offshore wind,” explains Rajnish
“The wind industry was very much developed around turbines
and they are really sophisticated and intelligent machines
But the industry can do more with integrating the data across the whole system and using the information from the turbines
and consume this in a smart way to further reduce operational expenditure
Production and revenue forecasting is very important for developers before investing
beginning with the design and during the operation of the wind farms
we need to integrate data across many areas
and of course offtake energy prices.
energy management and prognostic asset management are critical solutions for wind farm operators to ensure the investment case is achieved
“Predictive maintenance is really important and a low-hanging fruit
Sharing data and utilizing it for decision making is also very important
We have a lot of data today and we need to exploit it better and utilize it to improve operations and maintenance,” adds Rajnish.
we need the tight collaboration of all stakeholders - the developers
we need to ensure industry growth through proper policies across all markets in order to confirm the volumes for the supply chain
Visibility and stability of the policies always play an important role to bring an industry to maturity
We also need to agree on the areas of exploitation and ensure we have the proper grid connections to plug in the wind energy
“The grid is a constraint that needs to be addressed
You can already see in many markets that these constraints are limiting the development of offshore wind
We need modernization of the grid and the surrounding infrastructure to ensure speed of development and reach net-zero targets,” says Rajnish.
The grid is central to offshore wind conversations
and designing the offshore grid and expanding the onshore grid are part of the solution
It's investing into the future that ultimately brings prosperity
We need strong infrastructure for the future and with electricity as the backbone of the carbon-neutral world
the grids need to be in good shape,” adds Alfredo
We also need to evolve our energy and grid management solutions to suit the future – more dynamic state – of the system
as we build more and more wind power in the waters around us
we must guarantee that consumers are able to profit from it
Electrification solutions for transportation
and heating and cooling sectors must therefore be adopted
we will achieve our carbon-neutral ambitions in time and at an affordable cost – with electricity as the backbone of the entire energy sector.

THUNDER BAY – The family of Richard Graham is hoping they will locate him soon
said the family has been trying to find him
so we've scoured the bush here at the park itself
We've gone into areas of the city searching for him
“People in the general public have probably seen us out and about placing posters on poles and talking to people to ask them for any information regarding Richard
“We’ve just about done everything and we're at this point pleading for any kind of information that we can get,” he said
Graham frequented the Dew Drop Inn for his meals
“He's like all these other residents of the encampments
they travel a lot either by bus or by foot and they are able to cover great distances in very short periods of time
He could be just about anywhere in this city."
Poster said Grahm felt protected in the Current River Park
“He thought it was a safer area for himself as opposed to the other encampments
all his friends said they looked out for each other
The longest he ever disappeared for was a week at a time and for him to be gone after that week
It was just very odd that he didn't follow his normal routines
“I would always see him here in the park
I'd see him charging his phone or whatever
and then there was just nothing after that."
Poster said Graham has not been seen by his family since July 30 and the family is hoping he will contact them
We're looking everywhere for him and we've been everywhere in this city
There are not too many places we haven't been."
Poster said if anyone has any information to contact the police
He's only five-foot-six and maybe weighs (around) 120 pounds and he can hide in places where you wouldn't think a normal person could fit inside of."
It’s very traumatic to see the plight of some Thunder Bay residents
"struggling to get by with their addictions or mental health
Richard had mental health issues and that has led to all of this
Poster said his mom is also worried about him
but I don't know if she could take this
“I just want to plead to everyone to look in your backyard
he could have passed out and fell down somewhere
Thunder Bay Police officers are encouraging residents across the entire city to check their home and business surveillance footage as well as to check their properties for any sighting of Graham
said they are still looking into any tips they receive
The investigation is ongoing and still developing at this point
We're just making a plea to the public to perhaps check any video cameras
We're specifically interested in July 30 as a day
“Known areas of travel could include the entire city
We haven't been able to narrow it down to any specific area.”
The last footage of Graham is him getting on a bus going southbound
“Right near the corner of MacDougall on North Cumberland
