nuns residing in one of the most famous monasteries in Barcelona: the Royal Monastery of Santa Maria de Pedralbes after almost 700 years of the order residing in the monastery Founded by Queen Elisenda de Moncada in 1326 The Sisters will now move to another monastery of the same order in Vilobí d'Onyar The monastery is currently home to three nuns all local governments have had a close relationship with the religious site coinciding with the Saint of the city's old patroness city mayors and councilors visit the nuns and offer them a dozen eggs in exchange for good weather and the Clarisses' secret-and-traditional Catalan Mató fresh cheese The Clarisses or Poor Clares are an order founded by Clare of Assisi and Francis of Assisi in 1212 three years after founding the order of the Franciscans in 1209 the order founded the Santa Clara convent in Barcelona the Poor Clares bid farewell to their last Abbess Montserrat Casas She passed away a few months after the traditional February 12 city council visit Saint Clare is the patron saint of good weather which is why many people used to offer eggs to the nuns ahead of special occasions authorities asked nuns to pray for rain as Catalonia was in the midst of one of the worst droughts ever recorded Local media reports that Poor Clares nuns will leave Barcelona on February 15 after the feast of Santa Eulàlia and the last mass Church authorities report that the three nuns voluntarily requested to be transferred as they are elderly and there are only three of them important as the order states that there should be at least five nuns per monastery Poor Clares nuns are organized so that their financial sustainability comes from their work and subsistence which was difficult to achieve in Barcelona's Monastery of Pedralbes To avoid the Monastery's closure and allow the Poor Clares order to continue in the Catalan capital a new request was filed on Change.org calling to "avoid the eviction of the Clarisses nuns from the Monastery of Pedralbes." "Their eviction does not only represent a material loss but also the disappearance of a symbol of the fight and devotion in women's history," Sarai Román Cortés who "not only have a religious role but are also a living example of how women have helped preserve culture across centuries." "Are we going to stare at how these nuns leave the city or are we going to demonstrate that we take care of what we believe in?" she asked in the text Over 960 people have already signed the petition. Get the day's biggest stories right to your phone The Monastery of Pedralbes has recently revealed new and surprising archaeological findings that provide a renewed vision of the economic activities that took place in this emblematic place Excavations carried out in the small houses of the Baixada del Monestir have brought to light a complex structure dedicated to wine production which positions the monastery as an important wine center since the 17th century These discoveries not only expand the knowledge about the history of the monastery but also highlight its role in the local economy of the time Recent excavations have uncovered the remains of a beam press with a huge buttress grape seeds and various stone deposits known as trujales or lagares the archaeologist in charge of the intervention these remains confirm that wine production in the monastery was considerably more extensive than previously thought “Wine has been produced here since the 17th century and it seems to have been produced quite intensively,” says Bordas Archaeologists have found wine-making structures not only under the chapter house where some remains had previously been identified but also in adjacent areas such as the parlatorio a large circular structure was discovered in a passage between cottages 3 and 5 was confirmed to be related to wine production These findings underline that the monastery was not only a space of enclosure and prayer but also an active economic center with a remarkable wine-making activity The findings in the Monastery of Pedralbes have opened new lines of research on the economic history of the place director of the monastery museum and doctor in medieval history these discoveries require a re-reading of the existing documentation “The excavation confirms what we intuited but from what was found it may be even more than we initially thought,” explains Castellano The production of wine in the monastery was relevant not because the nuns cultivated vines but because they owned vast lands in the areas of Collserola and Sarrià the grapes harvested from these lands were brought to the monastery for processing This implied a well-organized system of production and distribution where wine not only served for internal consumption but probably also played a role in the local economy the excavations have provided a rich source of information on the evolution of the monastery from medieval to contemporary times initial walls from the 16th and 17th centuries have been identified archaeologists found a cannonball from the Guerra dels Segadors suggesting that the monastery was the scene of conflict during this period Another significant finding is a water channel discovered under the structures of one of the houses fell into disuse when it was covered by sediments but its existence demonstrates the complex hydraulic infrastructure that supported the monastery and its surroundings a water mine still supplies the monastery today irrigating the medieval orchard that was recovered a few years ago One of the oldest and most mysterious discoveries is that of bioarchaeological remains related to a farmhouse called Pedralbes which existed before the foundation of the monastery in the 14th century which include seeds and other agricultural remains suggest that the site was already a center of cultivation and production before becoming a monastic space The small houses on the Baixada del Monestir are now at the center of conservation and renovation plans Authorities are considering converting these spaces into offices for museum staff or material reserves The possibility of opening a bookstore and museum store is also under consideration it remains to be decided whether some of the archaeological remains discovered will be preserved and exhibited or whether they will be re-covered This decision will depend on the Comissió Territorial del Patrimoni Cultural de Barcelona given that the monastery is a cultural asset of national interest The preservation and enhancement of these findings would offer a unique opportunity for visitors to explore and better understand the rich history of the Pedralbes Monastery Stock images by Depositphotos La venta de la nuda propiedad Copyright © 2022 Salirporbarcelona , All rights Reserved. Even a governmental body, the House Select Committee on Assassinations, declared in its final report released 16 years after Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas Public sentiment in most opinion polls leans that way too and there are enough books and movies making the case to fill a small library chief of the Dallas Police Department at the time of the event We don’t have any proof that Oswald fired the rifle Nobody’s yet been able to put him in that building with a gun in his hand And the few who have bothered to study the voluminous exhibits accompanying the Warren Commission Report know how often the panel’s own evidence contradicts its conclusions No less than Bobby Kennedy, the attorney general under his brother, in the hours after Dallas turned to CIA Director John McCone, demanding to know if the agency had been involved Bobby himself would five years later be taken out reportedly by another person characterized as a “lone assassin.”  And what he has to say — plus how he says it — matters to more people than the independent journalists and amateur researchers who have pursued this story for more than half a century and even plain: an unnamed “they” killed the king to seize his kingdom Dylan is saying that the seminal event of the 1960s was a magic trick an act of misdirection that shifted history before the eyes of a world that would not or could not see a generation built its own world on an architecture of illusion Observers have tended to assume that the song is recent but Dylan’s voice seems more ragged on his recent recordings Judging by the tone of Dylan’s ever shifting whiskey-and-cigarette vocal overtones “Murder Most Foul” sounds more like something from  his “Time Out of Mind” era in the 1990s the commentators who tried to decode its historical and cultural references are playing games on the song’s surface without looking beneath it This is no “American Pie,” no upbeat folk-pop confection meant to be deciphered at parties or on first dates from the gravity of Dylan’s delivery to the somber strings layered behind him “Murder most foul” is the phrase used by the dead king in Shakespeare’s Hamlet and namesake that he has been murdered by his own brother The words were chosen by a songwriter who is also an extraordinarily literate and careful reader — so much so that he has been accused of “stealing” lyrics and ideas from sources as varied as a retired Yakuza gangster and an obscure poet from the 19th century antebellum South deserve as criminal an appellation as “theft.” Personally I hope he committed those “crimes,” and I hope he got away clean.) The full exchange from which his song gets its title goes as follows: GHOST: If thou didst ever thy dear father love —  GHOST: Revenge his foul and most unnatural murder professed their love for JFK and what he represented they rarely inquire into the nature of his death “President Kennedy was riding high,” sings Dylan adding the traditional words of a warrior about to die: “A good day to be living and a good day to die.” we know who you are,” the conspirators answer They’re talking in the language of gangsters And the plural form — “boys” — makes it clear that Dylan believes the assassination was the work of more than one person Dylan is rejecting the idea that Oswald fired the shots on his own and that his bullets performed magical feats of trickery as they penetrated more than one occupant of Kennedy’s limousine “Then they blew off his head when he was still in the car.” the slaughter of a man in the presence of his wife and a cheering crowd “Shot down like a dog in broad daylight,” Dylan sings “it was a matter of timing and the timing was right.” Why was it “a matter of timing,” and why was the timing right Kennedy was reportedly at odds with the CIA after the Bay of Pigs fiasco Other reports suggest that Kennedy may have been winding down the presence of US “advisers” in Vietnam although this remains a matter of speculation More than half a century later, Dylan describes the violence of the act with an undiluted intensity that startles the listener. He seems to be fixated on frame 313 of the Zapruder film bafflingly withheld from the public for years by Time-Life which shows a bullet shattering the president’s skull The media as a whole softened the violence of the act in the wake of the assassination,  studiously avoiding presenting its more violent images. Those only began to appear years later. The Zapruder film was not shown on television until March 6, 1975 The public outrage that followed led to investigations in both the House and Senate “No one saw a thing.” The assassination was seen firsthand by hundreds of people and the Zapruder film would eventually enter the public consciousness But somehow the real act remained — and remains — invisible while the violence of his death — and the forces that might have been behind it — are rarely recalled It’s as if everyone who lived through it suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder excising the painful memory from conscious recall Here’s what is really strange: The darker implications of the assassination have been obscured by what looks like a huge and almost inexplicable collaboration involving media and academia to foster the “lone gunman” myth These unanswered questions go largely unaddressed in a kind of collective amnesia that’s been passed on the assassination was a masterful deception — one that led his generation into distractions and misdirection Scientist’s Trick ‘Explains’ JFK Backward Movement When Shot JFK Had Ordered Full Withdrawal from Vietnam: Solid Evidence Magic tricks are impressive because they seem to defy the laws of nature an inverse of biblical deeds like walking on water or reviving the dead Even these affirmative miracles violate the laws of nature which is why Ralph Waldo Emerson rejected them in a speech to the Harvard Divinity School Such miracles were “monster,” in Emerson’s words “not one with the clover and the falling rain.” Kennedy’s death was the opposite of a miracle. It was a dark and monstrous act that changed the course of history. We will never know how events would have unfolded if Kennedy hadn’t died on that day. Kennedy had recently signed the Limited Nuclear Test Ban Treaty and was known to be an opponent of nuclear bomb tests In one of his bolder and less-remembered peace initiatives, JFK had proposed making the moon landing a joint US–Soviet mission which could have led to a powerful shift in the culture of the Cold War was raised just two months before his murder in Dallas Would JFK have de-escalated the conflict in Vietnam Would he have done more to rein in the CIA Or do ideas like these come from a desire to airbrush history a sentimental impulse to elevate the young president’s memory Dylan implies that Lyndon Johnson knew what was happening and that the killing was a deliberate power play Dylan presumably has no access to secret information But the public record itself raises deep questions about the official story This unnatural killing brought forth monsters But in this case they are monsters that entertain The cultural miracles of the 1960s brought forth colorful mutant foliage flora that distracted a generation from its stolen destiny Dylan follows his “magic trick” lyric with a shout-out to his generation’s most famous radio personality first came to fame on “border radio” in 1963 They could send high-powered signals that covered much of North America and he described the station this way: “We had the most powerful signal in North America … A car driving from New York to LA would never lose the station.” He also said this: “Birds dropped dead when they flew too close to the tower.” As anyone who has seen the old Lon Chaney films knows a wolfman is someone who can’t suppress the monster inside him Dylan has some requests for the howling and disembodied voice from across the border: if not to the living JFK then to the idealistic image that lingered after his death JFK Assassination Anniversary: Oswald Murder Witness Speaks JFK Assassination Triggered More Than Kennedy’s Death Kennedy rides to his doom as Dylan marks the landmarks along the way “Try to make it to the triple underpass,” but we already know he won’t make it to this journey’s end:  The road’s dark ending brings to mind the poem “The Highwayman,” by Afred Noyes which the voracious reader Dylan undoubtedly knows But Noyes’s highwayman found honor and love and as a result was shot down by King George’s men was murdered by the true powers behind the throne He seems to be saying that Kennedy expediently gained the presidency through some deals with bad people then didn’t carry out his part of the bargain “You got unpaid debts and we’ve come to collect,” the killers tell Kennedy “Revenge his foul and most unnatural murder” The ghosts of the murdered cry out for vengeance But murders can’t be avenged until the killers are identified a lone and disaffected stranger murdered the president almost by chance If Kennedy knowingly defied some ruthless people then to deny the existence of a conspiracy is to deny Kennedy the martyr’s death he deserves For the generation that most admired Kennedy the generation to which Dylan himself belongs The failure to confront this betrayal arguably allowed the “coup” to stand shifting the balance of political power and leading to decades of failure “Birds dropped dead when they flew too close to the tower.” if all the analyses of this song missed the point if the commenters got lost in a maze of song references and cultural puzzle-play — well “Look for me by moonlight,” says the highwayman to his lover “Play ‘Stella by Starlight’ for Lady MacBeth,” says Dylan no matter how much we have ignored it or wished it away because there is a damned spot of blood on our history and it can’t be washed away Related front page panorama photo credit: Adapted by WhoWhatWhy from National Archives and Alberto Cabello / Flickr (CC BY 2.0). Wednesday's traditional Santa Eulàlia visit of the Barcelona mayor and city councilors to the Poor Clares nuns in the Pedralbes monastery had a very different atmosphere following January's news that the Sisters would have to end their residence at the temple after almost 700 years. Every February 12, coinciding with the day of the patron saint of Barcelona, Santa Eulàlia, mayor Jaume Collboni and councilors visit the nuns and offer them a dozen eggs in exchange for good weather and the order of Saint Claire's secret and traditional Catalan mató fresh cheese dessert.  Collboni committed to maintaining the tradition in future years, even though the nuns will no longer be living in the monastery, instead inviting them back to the city for the annual feast day from their new residence.  The nuns have to be transferred to a site near the northern Catalan city of Girona as they are elderly–aged 90, 73, and 66–and there are only three of them, important as the order states that there should be at least five nuns per monastery. As such, the nuns are leaving against their will, and against the will of the roughly 50 locals from the Sarrià neighborhood who came to demonstrate outside the event.  In his speech following a choir performance in the monastery, Collboni added that he hoped "that monastic life will return" to the Pedralbes site, that it doesn't have to be a permanent situation, and pointed out that in the 698 years of nuns living in the temple, they have moved out on 25 other occasions.  After the speeches, all members of the council delegation, along with the nuns and even the demonstrating locals, enjoyed cups of the traditional sweet mató creamy cheese dessert.  Sister Sor Isaura, one of the three nuns still living in the religious facility, expressed to Catalan News her dismay at having to leave the site.  She said that she and the other Sisters are feeling "a lot of pain to be leaving the monastery, but also a lot of support" from friends as well as the people of Sarrià, many of whom turned out at the monastery on Wednesday morning to voice their support for the nuns to remain in the neighborhood.  "They’ve done everything possible, letters to the Pope, to the mayor, to the cardinal," Isaura said.  She is also confident that she will be able to return to Barcelona when the time is right. She explained that her order has received news that two convents of cloistered nuns in Nicaragua have been thrown out of their monasteries, and are now without a home. As there should be at least five nuns to maintain a monastery, there is a possibility that the Sisters from Nicaragua could be moved to Barcelona. "I’m being transferred to Vilobí but I’m thinking about it as though it were holidays, to see some countryside life," she said, adding that "hope is never lost. They told us they’re fighting to reverse the situation. But I think it might take some time." Jordi Bosch, president of the Sarrià neighbors association, told Catalan News that the locals feel bad for the nuns: "We’re at a loss about this outcome." "The locals think this monastery can’t be lost, it has 700 years of history. Its patrimony and tradition are very important," Bosch explained.  "As neighbors of Sarrià, we want this space to once again be a monastery for Poor Clares, and for the space to be somewhere the city can enjoy, where there is also monastic life," he added. Saint Clare is the patron saint of good weather, which is why many people used to offer eggs to the nuns ahead of special occasions, including their wedding day. During the last city council visit, authorities asked nuns to pray for rain as Catalonia was in the midst of one of the worst droughts ever recorded. The Poor Clares nuns will leave the Pedralbes monastery on February 15 after the feast of Santa Eulàlia and the last mass, which took place on February 9. Poor Clares nuns are organized so that their financial sustainability comes from their work and subsistence, which was difficult to achieve in Barcelona's Monastery of Pedralbes. Take, for example, the Carthusian Monastery of St. Mary of Escaladei Escaladei is a phonetic corruption of the original Latin Scala Dei “the ladder of God,” or even “the ladder unto God.” The original name of the Monestir de Pedralbes was Petras Albas – Latin for “white stones”: the whole monastery had been originally built using pearly white stones alone with all its delicate symbolism pointing to both the Garden of Eden and the Virgin Mary is green and blooming as it was in the 14th century an emblematic element of monastic architecture features delicate arches surrounding this serene courtyard fostering an ambiance conducive to meditation and study One of the most remarkable aspects of Monestir de Pedralbes is the Sala Capitular with its stunning polychrome wooden ceiling This space served as the main meeting place for the nuns and remains a marvel to this day showcasing the simple lifestyle led by the nuns and providing insight into the many challenges and rewards of monastic life The Monestir de Pedralbes stands as a living historical document amidst the city housing and sharing stories that speak of exceptional faith Its preservation and accessibility provide All rights reserved. singing… And while every spectator going to a concert expects the artist to do at least one and what are we missing now?" singer-songwriter Mika asked the public mid the 'Love Today' song almost at the concert's end But turns out that "before making love in the Royal Gardens and Lebanese singer had been performing for almost 1:45 hours but he and the thousands of fans could easily continue Mika's gig at the summer Les Nits de Barcelona music festival as he referred to it during the whole night: 'Jardines Reales,' was a party as he has been working during this last year to improve the language Something which he succeeded with a high mark despite saying 'gambas' instead of 'piernas' (legs) and considering the meaning in Spanish Mika quickly realized the error and acknowledged it was his only mistake during the whole night "Me disculpo a tots porqué me falta un poquito de Catalán," (forgive me as I am missing a little bit of Catalan language) the musician said early in the concert "Aquesta nit esteu molt elegants," (you are dressed very smart tonight) he said when talking to the audience with Ada's help was well dressed because they were attending a concert at the "Jardins de Pedralbes," even though he first said 'Jardines reales' in Spanish but his translator switched it to the location's name It was the second time I got to watch the singer performing in Catalonia. My first time was at the Cap Roig festival in the seaside town of Calella de Palafrugell two years ago. And as back then, Wednesday's concert was unique, excellent, fun, fabulous, lovely, and, why not... a little bit hot, as it had been a sunny and warm day in Barcelona, and temperatures were already relatively high at the start of the gig at around 10 pm. Mika did not cease to surprise us with hit after hit, such as 'Lollipop,' 'Relax, Take it Easy,' or the beautiful 'Happy Ending.' It may be impossible for him to stay on stage the whole night as he looks to interact with the audience and dances and sings surrounded by his fans. Two years ago, he started seated in the middle of the audience, and no one knew where he was. Not even the person by his side, who, as I recall, Mika said he was looking on Google, the artist. He was not aware the artist was explaining the situation to the whole audience over the speaker. On Wednesday's show, he appeared on stage directly, full of energy and already jumping around in a white suit. He wore five different suits: the first one, followed by a very colorful suit, a glittery one, another white one with a large embroidered white flower, and a dark green one.  'Big Girl (You Are Beautiful)' was the song that made Mika get off the stage and sing it with the audience while walking, or in some cases, running, around the seats. It was his playground, his 'Butterfly Lounge,' and he checked the different areas of the stands to see who were the "most crazy" fans. One of the most beautiful moments was during the song 'Underwater' when spectators held hundreds of paper fish, which surprised Mika. The female fan, who had prepared all these fish, had been cutting paper fish for around two days, as she told Mika during the middle of the song. She was invited to go on stage to help the singer conduct the audience as the choir. But after 'Underwater,' there were still hits such as 'Live Your Life,' 'Billy Brown,' or 'Elle me dit.' These were marking the end of the show, which had 'Grace Kelly,' and 'Happy Ending,' as the main closers, without forgetting the big hit: 'Love Today.' "And now that we have flown," he said at the song's end, "we can finally make love." "Moltes gràcies, us estimo Barcelona," were Mika's last words on stage. The nightly summer concerts in the Jardins del Palau de Pedralbes, accompanied by the sound of singing cicadas, continued on Friday with 80s new wave legends Simple Minds. The Scottish group, currently on their 2024 Global Tour, returned to Barcelona for an unforgettable trip down memory lane.  Frontman Jim Kerr took to the stage in a heatwave-defying attire of a white denim jacket, long multicolored scarf, skin-tight jeans, and black leather boots, and immediately took command of the crowd, shouting “Everything okay?” to the roaring fans before kicking off the concert with their 83 hit “Waterfront,” which got everyone on their feet and dancing from the start. Although the band’s big break came over forty years ago, they have kept busy with 18 studio albums released and many hits, including “Someone Somewhere (in Summertime),” “Sanctify Yourself,” “New Gold Dream,” and “Promised You a Miracle,” all of which they played in the park on Friday. Throughout the night, Kerr’s presence, from singing, dancing, waving, and shaking hands with fans, and the synergy with co-vocalist Sarah Brown made sure that everyone was present, with the breathtaking backdrop of the Palau de Pedrables, which lit up in different colors throughout the night. But Simple Minds isn’t just a band that makes great dance songs, they also have political tunes, such as “Mandela Day” from 1989, which was written for the then-imprisoned Nelson Mandela as an expression of solidarity. Later, an absolute silence descended upon the crowd, as the group played “Belfast Child,” a melancholy tune about the Troubles, with the famous black-and-white video playing in the background, and fans quietly swaying back and forth as if mesmerized by the lyrics. Of course, the concert could not end without the 80’s smash hit "Don’t You (Forget About Me)", a song that had everyone in the concert dancing and singing along to the characteristic chorus of “la-la-la-la” over and over again. And just when everyone thought that the concert was over, Kerr announced, “We don’t want to go home! Please let us play some more!” As promised, the group returned to play “Alive and Kicking,” making sure that no one would ever forget that hot night in Barcelona, dancing and singing along to the songs of the legendary Simple Minds. the Monastery of Pedralbes will open its 14th century cloister to the public twice a week free of charge and without prior reservation it was inhabited by the Poor Clare nuns and houses inside the tomb of Queen Elisenda where her image appears dressed as a sovereign where she is shown as a widow and penitent Concert Studio, the promoters behind all previous editions of the Pedralbes Festival in Barcelona, have moved and renamed their event for this year after not being granted the license to hold the music festival in the Pedralbes garden site.  Instead, Concert Studio will organize 'Alma' in Poble Espanyol between July 10-27 this summer, and the director of the promoting company considers this to be the 11th edition of the Pedralbes Festival.  The lineup for Alma will be unveiled on Tuesday and will include national and international artists along the same lines as the original Pedralbes Festival over the past decade.  "Festivals have a soul," Martín Pérez, director of the original promoters Concert Studio, said. "The soul is in the people, the talent, the interest, the enthusiasm, the initiative, the smile, the education, the way of doing things of those who have made the Pedralbes Festival." The festival will aim to keep the same combination of music, food, and entertainment for all audiences. Meanwhile, Clippers Live, the promoting company that won the public competition to organize the music festival in Pedralbes this summer, will go ahead with their event on the site of the Pedralbes gardens, where the original festival has always been held.  The public tender to award the rights to organize the Pedralbes Festival went to Clipper's Live, beating three other candidates. The group also organizes the Festival Cap Roig and the Cambrils International Music Festival. Clipper's Live will have a permit to host the event for three years (2023, 2024, and 2025), between June 19 and August 2 in the Pedralbes gardens. First published: February 13, 2024 10:11 AM The Catalan government has announced an agreement in principle with the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) over granting the organizaton more space at the Palace of Pedralbes.  Following a meeting on Monday evening between President Pere Aragonès and the general secretary of the UfM, Nasser Kamel, at the headquarters of the government, Catalan foreign minister, Meritxell Serret, explained that a solution has been found to the dispute over the use of the building.  It will allow the UfM to use another floor in the palace, granting it an extra 1,000 square meters of floor space approximately.  There are still some technicalities to work through to seal the deal.  In an interview with the Catalan News Agency (ACN) in July, Kamel accused the Catalan government of asking him to pay for the use of meeting rooms.  The Palace of Pedralbes came under government ownership in February 2022 when the building and gardens were transferred free of charge from Barcelona City Council.  The Catalan executive welcomed the return of top-level relations with the UfM after the first meeting between leaders since 2016.  The Union for the Mediterranean is an intergovernmental institution that brings together the European Union member states and 16 countries from the southern and eastern shores of the Mediterranean to promote dialogue and cooperation. Its permanent headquarters are at the Palace of Pedralbes in Barcelona.  One of Barcelona's summer festivals may not be able to go ahead this year as Concert Studio claim they still do not have a license granted to hold the event despite the previous Catalan government signing a letter in 2019 allowing them to schedule shows for five years responsible for managing the Jardins de Pedralbes venue confirms their interest in the event taking place but only if Concert Studio wins a public tender expected to be announced by the end of March.  This new administrative procedure is set to enter into force because a second company is interested in organizing a music festival in the Jardins de Pedralbes area of Barcelona.  But, for Concert Studio, the letter signed during former Catalan president Quim Torra's mandate by the presidency secretary-general confirms they can manage the festival until 2023. "The agreement is written down, but [the government] does not want to comply with it," Martín Pérez, director of the festival, told the Catalan News Agency (ACN). He believes that the Catalan executive "does not want for the show to take place," and even if they win the public tender, it will be already too late for them. "We usually work with a deadline of 10 to 12 months, but they want to have everything ready in two months. This shows that they are not interested in the festival going ahead," he concluded. As the license is still not granted, Concert Studio believes the vast majority of international performers will have to be pulled off the lineup, including Bob Dylan, Norah Jones, Madness, Blondie, The Corrs, Lang Lang, Cat Stevens, Earth Wind & Fire, Rod Steward, and Sting. This festival usually takes place across June and July in a cozy setting surrounded by nature, with a small-scale audience compared to what national and international artists performing are used to. Around 1,200 spectators are lucky to get a unique experience in a site that does not feel like being in Diagonal avenue, one of Barcelona's main central roads, adjacent to the site. The Catalan cabinet believes Barcelona's Pedralbes Festival will go ahead, but the public tender needs to take place first.  The venue where the event is organized is owned by the city council but managed by the government. However, the license did not allow for music festivals to happen, a restriction changed in November.  Officials are currently working "as fast as possible," taking into account "economic and quality criteria" but also "transparency, unanimity, and general interest," sources confirmed to ACN. First published: November 21, 2023 12:33 PM A light show with more than twenty installations that reveal the "unknown world of mushrooms" has opened in the Torre Girona gardens in the Pedralbes neighborhood of Barcelona.  'Origin' runs until January 21, with organizers saying it offers "a luminous experience in which you will discover one of the earliest known life forms on Earth" via light tunnels, projection mapping, glowing figures and other lighting effects.  'Origin' is the latest 'Natura Encesa' (Nature Aglow) project. The first show went on display in Madrid in 2020 before being installed in the Pedralbes gardens in Barcelona.  Visitors will "feel like Alice in Wonderland" when they walk through the display, said Iñaki Fernández, director LetsGo, the production company behind the show.   Although Spanish energy and petrochemical company Repsol is the principal sponsor, the installation is powered by "renewable energy," Fernández said. A group of around fifty demonstrators gathered outside the show on Monday evening, claiming the installations compromise the biodiversity of the gardens.  The show "has already, before starting, caused serious damage to the flora and fauna of the area, which compromises its biodiversity indefinitely," the protesters argued, adding that the installations "produce light and sound pollution that seriously disturbs the life of the fauna in the park."  The director of LetsGo said that he were saddened by this attitude and insisted that they have complied with all requirements.  "I'm sorry that [protestors] think this about us, and I hope that little by little they will realize that 'Natura Encesa' is not bad for the park," Fernández concluded.  'Origin' is open at the Torre Girona gardens in Pedralbes, Barcelona from Monday to Sunday from 6 pm to 10:45 pm. General tickets for adults cost €16.50, with family discounts available. It runs until January 21, 2024. A million LED lights stretching more than a kilometer of wiring now decorate the city gardens forming different shapes such as flowers, schools of fish, vultures, storks, and more.  The figures light up to represent different life forms on the planet as well as the four elements of air, water, earth and fire.  The artistic lumination is also aimed at acting as an “environmental critique,” pushing for more protection of biodiversity and the conservation of natural space, as explained by Iñaki Fernández, producer of the light show, at the inauguration. Following past successes in the other Spanish cities of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Madrid, the installation has landed in Barcelona with a special lens pointed at 'Life'. It proposes a route through the gardens to immerse yourself in the four elements of the earth.  'Natura encesa' is a show appropriate for all ages and can be visited every day from 6pm to 10pm until 9 January.  The organization highlighted the "wonderful" reception it has received from the public, as 50,000 tickets had already been sold before opening. trends Its main attractions for visitors include a unique Gothic church and stained-glass windows a chapel decorated by the painter Jaume Ferrer Bassa and a spectacular three-storey cloister How did the first nuns in the 14th century live What conflicts did the female abbesses have with the royal power and how did this affect monastic life Thanks to the tremendous efforts put into rigorous documentation the exhibition offers a truly immersive experience in the 15th-century monastery we can step inside the great images that allow us to see what the cloister garden was like and how the gilding of the chapel of Sant Miquel shimmered while it was adorned with frescoes it has been included so that visitors can enjoy a veritable jewel created by Ferrer Bassa We can also recreate the atmosphere of the kitchen and the infirmary The long-term exhibition has been set up in the infirmary such as an altar frontal and the Tapís de Mallorca ceramic panel it exhibits furniture that provides an insight into the monastery’s day-to-day life: a 15th-16th-century lectern for singing and storing sheet music a trunk with a 19th-century camp bed designed for travel purposes and a 16th-century box-bed that was used for both sleeping in and storing bedding One of the fundamental pieces is the queen’s wardrobe one of the few remains preserved from the time of Elisenda de Montcada with Gothic-shaped openings to provide ventilation The exhibition is accompanied by an audiovisual that clearly illustrates the power that the female abbesses of Pedralbes held in the Middle Ages and the early Modern Age The conflicts between lineages are brought to life in the story of Violant de Montcada who explains her dismissal by Ferdinand the Catholic and her intrepid seven-year journey to get the Pope of Rome to receive her in person and reinstate her to her post a wonderful story of female empowerment that is sure to be a hit on the big screen And a note to visitors: this is the room retrace each period of construction and its most salient features as well as the community’s most noteworthy history The exhibition starts with the origins (14th century) such as the monastery’s founding charter and a detailed description of the Gothic stained-glass windows which are just as impressive as those of the Sainte-Chapelle in Paris We discover that the infirmary distilled rose water so widely used in the Middle Ages; and we see how the spectacular dormitory with its diaphragm arches and wooden ceiling evolved from an empty nave to the construction of small rooms The cloister of Pedralbes is one of the largest in medieval Europe We can see in detail how it was built in several phases The most entertaining anecdote about life in the monastery in the 15th century is characteristic of medieval Europe leaving out those which arrived in Europe from America and the rest of the world after 1492 The project to regain the original use of this space began in 2017 the goal being to reconstruct a vegetable garden in four plots just as it might have been in the Middle Ages To get the best idea possible of what the medieval vegetable garden would have been like a team was assembled with specialists from the field of history environmental education and social services who approached the project from different angles The recovery of the vegetable garden from a historical perspective involved a thorough study to determine the species to be planted there consulting medieval documents kept at the monastery itself and agricultural agreements from the time which set out the species and cultivation techniques during the Middle Ages The garden includes native local species which are no longer planted or which are in danger of disappearing Organic medieval agriculture techniques are being used in the vegetable garden This type of agriculture is one of the cornerstones for what is currently described as eco-agriculture which is complemented with contemporary science and tech knowledge Archaeology work was carried out at the start of the project allowing for five clear chronological stages to be established for the use of the space the historical paths in the subsoil in the vegetable garden could be recovered along with the traditional watering infrastructure the design and the different museum elements of the space could be developed the architecture and history of the monastery and the museum space In the heart of the exclusive neighborhood of Pedralbes in Barcelona a property that redefines the meaning of opulence and
