It is conceived of as a simple and light architecture in the form of an Arab tent that is open to the surrounding landscape and to all society. The site of the archeological museum is set in an important area of the city, which contains the ancient Roman remains as well as the beautiful landscape of the “Ria.”  These two elements contribute to the design of the building which is that of a light pavilion that is lifted at points to reveal its precious contents.  The tent almost doesn’t touch the ground which allows it to be protective for its contents but inclusive to the public space surrounding it. MRDP Arquitectos sent us the winning entry 1st Prize: FARO; MRDP Arquitectos | María Romero y Daniel Pérez 2nd Prize: CÓNCAVO-CONVEXO; Joaquín Aramburu y Asociados 3rd Prize: BI.VALVO; JOSÉ ÁLVAREZ CHECA We intend to create a building to distinguish the City of Punta Umbria from others of similar size in the environment that contain similar facilities for fairs, exhibits, congress and shows. The project is organized around two main ideas: Moreover, from a formal point of view we generate a unlimited flexible topography, where any changes did not compromise the character of the proposal. A building that moves away from conventional forms of fairs and exhibitions containers, flexible with itself and the area to be implanted, confused at times with it. The new topography will contain the required activities under a green roof. The excess cost of such roof will be offset by savings in the acclimation of these large-scale spaces with an enormous thermal inertia. The green roof will be covered by native hydrophilic species, resistant to weather and with poor maintenance. Part of the roof will be occupied by pedestrian paths connecting archaeological items that are expected to be found at the site. We provide the building with a whimsical and unique 17m tower as a lighthouse that will allow a visual connection to the river and its surroundings next to the building This tower will contain small conferences and V.I.P rooms so you can see the project on Google Earth donwload KMZ Kenya had an historically successful IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Bydgoszcz becoming the first country ever to take all eight titles (four team and four individual) and results from the recent IAAF / SINOPEC World Half Marathon Championships would seem to augur well for a repeat performance in Punta Umbria 2011 Bydgoszcz will long live in the annals of long distance running as one of the most dominant performances ever by any one nation at global level Kenya’s road racers took up the mantle of success on 16 October sweeping their way to all four World titles at Half Marathon so long the only opponents to trouble Kenya across the country and on the roads were very much squeezed off the podium in 2010 Kenya swept the individual medals in both junior races and took a one-two in the senior women’s race at the 2010 World Cross Their principal rivals took just one individual medal each in Bydgoszcz with Ethiopia additionally taking 3 teams silvers and one bronze and Eritrea one team silver Uganda was the next best with three bronze medals (two team and the USA impressively captured the one remaining team bronze in Poland Seven months later and the results on the roads of Nanning again emphatically demonstrated Kenya’s distance running strength with the individual gold and bronze in both races - only the fourth time that one nation’s runners had run to both titles since the inception of these championships in 1992 - sandwiching in silver’s for Eritrea (Zersenay Tadese) and Ethiopia (Dire Tune) and listening to the Kenyan race winners Wilson Kiprop and Florence Kiplagat it is very much a matter of ‘Next Stop Spain’ the Kenyan victors had already turned their ambitions to the 39th edition of the IAAF World Cross Country Championships which will be held in Punta Umbria whose year has also included the national and African 10,000m titles on home turf in the high altitude of Nairobi finishing fifth in 2:09:09 in Prague in May but he’s not yet ready to turn his full attentions to the longer distance “I’m not ready for another marathon this year But I am looking to run well and at the World Cross Country Championships,” said Kiprop in Nanning It would comes as no real surprise if his female counterpart Florence Kiplagat possessed similar World Cross Country ambitions as she has already captured and individual title World Cross Country the national track record holder for 10,000m (30:11.59 from 2009) still has plenty to achieve across the country and on the track before looking to a marathon There will be many in Ethiopia and Eritrea hoping that the large prize purses of a major city race might still divert Kiprop and Kiplagat to the roads before Umbria (© Getty Images) Geoffrey Kipsang Kamworor was nobody’s favourite to win the IAAF World Cross Country Championships Junior race after finishing fourth at his own national trials last month but the 18-year-old Kenyan showed what a difference a month of dedicated preparation can make with a stunning display of gun-to-tape front running Kipsang crossed the line after 8km of hard running in 22.21 Course variations have to be taken into account but cross country aficionados in the Spanish resort town were soon talking about it being the most impressive victory by a junior man since Kenenisa Bekele won a decade ago in 2001 He sped away from the gun with his arms pumping like a 400m runner and went through the first 2km at the head of a 14-man group in a swift 5:22 The prevailing thought was that he was making the pace for some of the men behind him notably his team-mate Isiah Kiplangat Koech who had run World junior indoor bests over 3000m and 5000m last month before going on to win the Kenya trials race in Nairobi it was soon clear that Kipsang had other ideas “I knew I was in great shape at the training camp and I was just feeling very confident I decided to just run as hard as I could from the front I knew there was a danger I might run out of energy but I felt I had a good chance of the gold medal,” said the 18-year-old from the tiny Chepkorio village He later revealed that unlike at many previous Championships there had been no team tactics issued by the Kenyan team coaches the pace eased slightly on the second of four laps but it was enough to run the legs off some of the men chasing him and the pack - containing four Kenyans four Ethiopians and the lone Ugandan Thomas Ayeko - was reduced to nine men at the halfway point Kipsang then put in a noticeable burst of acceleration in the early stages of the third lap which spread out his rivals Ethiopia’s Bonsa Dida tried to hang to stay on Kipsang’s shoulder but later paid for his efforts while Ayeko slipped back a couple of paces and was running comfortably in third place while Patrick Mutunga and Koech were in fourth and fifth respectively Kipsang found another gear about a kilometre from home to shake off his challengers and he continued to wind up the pace as the line approached to make sure there were no surprises in the finishing straight “I finished fourth in the Kenyan trials but I was taking that race carefully as I knew that this was the important race The Kenyan trials are hard but I wanted to conserve some energy and so I ran just to make the team,” added Kipsang reflecting on the fact that he had arrived in Spain a little below the radar both Ayeko and Mutunga went past the flagging Dida in the final kilometre to take the silver and bronze medals respectively the latter only on the Kenyan team as an after-thought by the selectors after finishing sixth in the Kenyan trials Kenya filled the first four places in the junior men’s race in Bydgoszcz 12 months ago but this time around they couldn’t quite manage perfect score and had to settle for getting their scoring quartet in the top 10 to take their 13th successive title in the category with 20 points getting their four men in the top eight but again had to settle for the silver medal like they had done in 11 of the 12 previous years with 24 points Perhaps the gold was lost due to Tesfaye Cheru’s relatively poor run the winner of the junior men’s race at the Ethiopian trials failing to stay with the leaders after the first lap and eventually finishing 11th Ayeko’s second place helped Uganda to the team bronze medals for the second successive year with 50 points Sign in/UpRegister nowWhy RegisterWORLD ATHLETICS CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPSPUNTA UMBRÍA Faith Chepngetich Kipyegon of Kenya in mid-way through the final lap after her team-mate had split the field up on the penultimate circuit So Masai was second for the third year in a row and will have to wait another two years for her next possible chance of being champion With due respect to Florence Kiplagat (winner in Amman 2009) and last year’s champion there are two consoling elements to this third consecutive silver this time Masai was beaten by another World champion One of the women dropped when first Masai and then Cheruiyot broke up the leading pack was Shalane Flanagan moving past Meselech Melkamu of Ethiopia into third in the last kilometre and taking some ground out of Masai Flanagan led her team to the bronze medal as well It was the second successive bronze for the Americans but Flanagan’s numbers were even more impressive the 29-year-old Beijing Olympic 10,000m bronze medallist is the first non-African born medallist since Benita Willis won the long race in 2004 and the first American medallist since Deena Drossin took the second of her two successive silver medals in 2003 Flanagan credited her marathon training for her improvement from 12th place to a bronze medal (she made her marathon debut in New York last year) Flanagan commented: “I was just so happy to be in the spot I was in I didn’t realise how close I could be (to second).” Masai and Cheruiyot have battled back and forth all this year but Cheruiyot took the win that mattered most.  I hope to defend my title in the next championship “I’m very happy about Masai because we are friends outside the competitions and we also train together.” because I came here very strong,” she said “But finally I have been second once again.” Again she made the race; again she did not win it Magdalena Lewy-Boulet and Blake Russell packed well and Ejegayehu) all winning global medals on both the track and cross-country Now the Ayalew family looks to be the next in line lines up for the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Bydgoszcz later this week she will hope to do better than her older sister Wude in winning the family’s first individual World cross-country medal Despite her four appearances at the World Cross has two fifth-place finishes (in Fukuoka 2006 and 2009 Amman) to her credit “She [Wude] was my inspiration to take up athletics seriously,” says Ayalew of her sister she had already started representing her country There are several reasons why the Ethiopian athletics community is bullish about Ayalew’s chances in the Polish city Since finishing 11th two years ago in Punta Umbria the 20-year-old has made a startling improvement over the cross country and her preferred track event “An athlete will not remain in the same position,” she says “But when I compare my performance with the one two years ago Ayalew certainly broke ranks last year when she made it on to the Ethiopian women’s 3000m steeplechase Olympic team in London and finished fifth as compatriot Sofia Assefa won bronze at the event “I would have done better if I had more experience and a stronger finish,” she says She has continued where she left off from last season winning the Cross Internacional de Atapuerca in Spain in November 2012 and then comfortably winning the battle for Bydgoszcz places at the Jan Meda race course in Addis Ababa competing against the likes of three-time World cross-country bronze medallist Meselech Melkamu and Olympic 10,000m finalist Belaynesh Oljira I had prepared well but I didn’t expect the big result as there were some strong senior athletes,” she says there are seven athletes in our [women’s senior] team I am ready to do my best individually and as a team too.” Ethiopia’s chances in Bydgoszcz have been dealt a blow by the withdrawal of three-time champion Tirunesh Dibaba a wild card selection by the Ethiopian Athletics Federation (EAF) While Ayalew believes that this is a setback she is confident of her own chances in Poland “It is a big advantage to have Tirunesh in our team,” says Ayalew “She is a great athlete; you can imagine what a morale-boost her presence is to all of us so the rest of us have to bring the results for our country I think I am in a good shape so I hope to get a big result.” the jury is out on whether the young runner can turn into a world-beating athlete like her compatriots Meseret Defar and Dibaba Ayalew’s affection lies in the 3000m Steeplechase an event in which she had to overcome personal fear before mastering “I used to be frightened just watching others compete in the steeplechase let alone running it myself,” she recalls of her early track days where she aspired to emulate Defar and Dibaba in the 5000m “I run well in the 5000m and wanted to represent my country at that event.” clocking 14:49.36 at the Oslo Diamond League in 2011 It was a time that could get her into the World Championships team of many countries but there was no place for her in Ethiopia’s team for Daegu Reality started sinking in that her dreams may not be coming true until her agent Hussein Makke came into the picture “He asked me to change my event and I refused to accept his advice because I thought he was asking me to shift to the Marathon,” recalls Ayalew “He said ‘I am not saying that [switch to Marathon] Why don’t you try it [the 3000m Steeplechase]?’ Then I said ‘I am not capable of doing it’ He insisted that I try and abandon it if it does not work out So he prepared a private coach who could help me train for the Steeplechase he saw my progress and told me that I was doing fine This gave me moral support and I started liking it I became convinced that it was the right way to go for me.” clocking 9:23.88 at the 2011 London Diamond League Ayalew has big ambitions for the World Championships in Moscow later this year but concedes that qualifying for the Ethiopian team remains her big priority post-Bydgoszcz I first want to qualify for Moscow,” she says “This year it will be difficult because there are many challengers So I have to train hard to qualify for Moscow.” Despite her second-place ranking on Ethiopia’s all-time lists behind Assefa (9:09.00) Ayalew has been touted by her coaches as someone who could make a serious challenge for the World Steeplechase record currently held by Gulnara Galkina-Samitova of Russia from the 2008 Olympic Games (8:58.81) Ayalew believes in a step-by-step approach to improvement
