as it has a little more fat than sardines from other places
Rianxo (A Coruña) is a beautiful village in Arousa Norte area with a long seafaring tradition that is lost in time
Located in the largest of the Galician estuaries
this town is a benchmark in sardine fished with the traditional art of xeito
It is also said that it is the place of origin of the best xouba (little sardine)
the blue fish most associated with summertime: as the traditional saying recalls
a xouba molla o pan” (for Saint John’s Day
The sardine is a pelagic fish characterized by its bluish colour
with greenish and silver reflections on the belly
It lives in shallow waters (usually between 5 and 50 meters deep)
where it forms large banks that approach the coast in late spring and summer
Its sexual maturity comes in the first year of life
although this species can reach a length of 25 centimetres
Before reaching the point of its maximum development
sardines are usually called xoubas in Galicia
being especially appreciated in the local gastronomy
One of the fishing gears used to catch this fish is the traditional xeito
with 117 exploitation permits (permex) authorized for this art in 2021
the guild sold 926kg of xouba and 26,250kg of sardine
with a total of 30 vessels that were successful
with an average of two people working on each boat
The best moment of captures is usually from mid-May to July, although in good years it can last until the beginning of August, explains the chairman of the Rianxo fishermen’s guild, Miguel Ángel Iglesias. It is precisely in the month of July when this fishing village hosts a gastronomic festival dedicated to xouba
an occasion to discover and enjoy this tasty blue fish in traditional preparations and also innovative proposals
the most distinctive trace of this local fish is its flavour
because it has a little more fat than the other ones”
taking into account its quality and established reputation
“it is a fish that has a name made in the market.”
From a gastronomic point of view, the sardine and the xouba are very versatile fish, so they admit an infinite number of presentations and accompaniments. Some of the most common preparations are empanadas (made with corn or wheat flour)
with cachelos (boiled potatoes) or according to the simple and tasty presentation typical of the Saint Jonh’s Day festival: grilled and accompanied by a piece of cornbread
The secret of xouba of Rianxo is its flavour: “Ours has another substance because it has a little more fat than whatever it was,” says the elder patron of the fishermen´s guild
certify the origin and control the traceability of the xouba of Rianxo
the fishermen’s guild is working on the creation of a brand
The future quality label is conceived for all areas: to be used in fresh produce
preserved and even in the field of catering
Most of the sardine catches in Galicia are made with the purse seine
which is a very old fishing gear and one of the most selective that exists
the xeito is made up of a rectangular cloth stretched between two trallas: the upper one (which consists of a buoy flotation system that allows the draft at variable depth) and the lower one
It must remain attached to the boat by means of a rope of variable length
This is a fishery regulated by specific management plans for this species and gear
which fix issues such as the size of the mesh
They also impose the minimum size that the fish must have
is a very selective gillnet art that generates very few discards
the peculiarity that it allows to extract the fish in good condition stands out
something especially important in the case of the xouba
as it is smaller and more delicate than the sardine
you have to be more careful and treat it with special affection because
adding that “even to take it to the fish market you have to put it on ice because It takes a long time
The first known documentary mention of xeito fishing in Galicia dates from the 15th century
Iglesias especially highlights the “artisan” character of success
since “among all the fishing gears it is the only one that did not change at all” with the passage of time
According to Elisa Ferreira in her work Fishing and Regional Economy in Galicia (which is part of the monograph entitled Fishing in the Middle Ages)
the first known documentary mention of xeito (jeito) in the community dates from the 15th century
it is possible that the practice predates this reference
More than 600 years old for a type of fishing in which today we continue to work
maintaining the artisanal practice and working to guarantee the quality of the product
in the fishing world you have to work by vocation: “I was hooked”
while expressing his conviction that “if the bureaucratic issue were easier
perhaps he would sign up more people”

"The Wounded Table"is considered the main work of the Mexican painter Frida Kahlo and the greatest exponent of surrealism
the author's tribulations also converge in the interest of the painting
which can be deduced in the content; the reason for its elaboration
to donate it to a Soviet Union that rejected it for considering it "bourgeois
formalist and decadent"; and the mystery of her disappearance
It is reported that Kahlo herself lived with bitterness the loss and that Mexico tried by all means to locate the painting with the intention of returning it to the national heritage
but nothing was known about it until now that a Galician art dealer
has put it up for sale according to the interest of its owner
Cristian Lpez Mrquez is that person who claims to have ended 65 years of mystery. With two other Mexican partners, he is the owner of the company The Billion Art
dedicated to the sale and purchase of works of art
for the six and a half decades without knowing anything of what is considered the masterpiece of surrealism
it passed through two important private collections before reaching the hands of the current property.
The dealer has no doubt that this is the coveted work of Frida Kahlo
Experts hired by her company were in charge of verifying this by contrasting the painting with that of other works by the Mexican artist
He calculates that the value of The "Wounded Table" is between 40 and 50 million euros: "The owner is looking for a buyer within European art circles
in which great collectors of works are made with paintings of this style"
The value of "The Wounded Table" is between 40 and 50 million euros Some of the evidence that the Galician intermediary treasures are the labels that can be seen on the back of the work and that correspond to the only three exhibitions in which the painting could be seen
but in one of them it can be clearly seen that it is the International Surrealism Exhibition held in Mexico City in 1940
in which the main work of Frida Kahlo was indeed.
Lpez explains that in 1956, two years after the death of the painter, her husband, Diego Rivera
wanted to have the painting back with the support of his friend Ignacio Mrquez Rodiles
who was finally "one of those responsible for the disappearance
in addition to being one of the managers of the picture between Mexico and the Soviet Union"
but returned two years ago entering the world of buying and selling works of art
Q: Does a person as young as you not pay respect to talking about works like Frida Kahlo's worth so many millions
A: I manage other paintings with much more value
by Rafael; or a Rembrandt that belonged to Princess Diana of Wales
But "Frida Kahlo's Wounded Table" has something special
that mystery that has surrounded her disappearance during all these years
at the moment I have not sold any such important work
Q: Do you have real proof of how the work is
something that could worry the author's followers
who have been waiting for years for it to reappear
Q: Are you not afraid that it could be a fake?
95% of the works that are put up for sale in the world are fake
but this is the original painting because it has been analyzed by experts
who later decided to put him in a high-security vault
A: Despite the fact that some researcher like Helga Prignitz assures that it is made with the oil on board technique
Frida Kahlo only used this method for small self-portraits that she painted lying on her bed
Q: People may not believe that this is the authentic work
A: The only ones who can give correct information about the work are the owner himself and his trusted dealer
and I can show that I have the work available for sale
A: We create a network of contacts in order to send our paintings to people of a certain level who may be interested in investing in them
which forces me to travel throughout Spain.
