Rincón de la Victoria) on the eastern Costa del Sol has announced its support for "a proposal for a law that demands greater investment" in public health The group argues that Spain is witnessing a "diversion of funds to private health care" and is fighting for the "recovery of the resources already invested in it," according to Alberto Mateos spokesman for the Rincon de la Victoria-based organisation Among the measures the association is calling for is the guarantee of maximum time limits: 48 hours for primary care 45 days for consultations with specialists and 90 days for surgical interventions Members are also calling for a mental health team in each area the introduction of health councils; bodies that would allow collaboration between citizens health professionals and public Regional government is studying the possibility of a new Metro train line reaching out east The Regional Government of Andalusia has received proposals from six companies for the detailed technical studies for an eastern corridor route linking the city of Malaga as far east as Rincón de la Victoria The draft proposals envisage linking the Ciudad Garden metro station with El Palo and beyond opening up future possibilities for taking the rail line even further along the east coast of the Malaga province which would extend line 2 from the Hospital to Ciudad Jardín; and then finally a corridor towards the Parque Tecnológico While still only in its proposal stage, the concept will be to link all the routes to a central transport hub for long-distance trains The first contract to create a new leisure park in Rincón de la Victoria on the eastern Costa del Sol has been awarded to the joint venture formed by Copesol They beat 17 other bidders for the Parque del Mediterráneo contract which is worth 4.4 million euros including IVA tax When the mayor of Rincon Francisco Salado announced the project in October he explained that this first tender corresponds to the first phase of the future park The work is expected to start in early 2025 and take 12 months to complete The town hall along with Malaga's provincial authority are financing this first phase of the project with the council hoping to receive European funding for the second phase which will occupy the same surface area as 26 football pitches has been described by Salado as the "biggest in the history" of the town The site chosen for this project is in Torre de Benagalbón on plots of land around Calles Lebeche and Pampero and La Marina primary school There will be a lake and exercise machines rest The new schedule will include three departures from Málaga’s Muelle de Heredia to Rincón de la Victoria every night from Sunday to Thursday at 11:30 pm you can catch a bus from Malaga as late as 3:00 am This extended service is a win for residents making it easier to get home after a night out or a late shift the town’s Mobility and Transport Councillor highlighted that this new schedule responds to local demand and improves public transport options beyond the summer season Mayor Francisco Salado also shared his enthusiasm, noting that this is just the beginning of broader transportation improvements in Rincón de la Victoria Plans are underway to enhance connections with Málaga’s train station and the airport also The new night bus service is set to bring significant benefits to Rincón de la Victoria By offering reliable late-night connections to Málaga residents can enjoy greater freedom to partake in nightlife or work late shifts without worrying about transportation This enhanced connectivity not only makes the town more accessible but also supports local businesses by increasing foot traffic during evening hours the service promotes a stronger sense of community by providing a consistent and dependable transport option helping to bridge the gap between Rincón de la Victoria and the bustling city life of Málaga For more Axarquia news, articles and events click Bradshaw Foundation is a non-profit organisation whose main areas of focus are archaeology document and preserve ancient rock art around the world and promote the study of early humankind’s artistic achievements said that the town's caves "continue to attract the attention of the scientific community becoming protagonists not only in the field of tourism but also in academia and archaeological research" organised by the British professor George Nash who visited Cueva de la Victoria with the National Geographic team in 2023 has allowed the specialists to see first-hand the advances in research on Palaeolithic cave art in the town which is connected with institutions including the Getty Conservation Institute the National Geographic Society and the Royal Geographical Society worked in close collaboration with a team of Malaga researchers coordinated by María del Mar Espejo Together they analysed new graphic panels that were discovered in 2007 and are made up of engravings and prints made with fingers and engravings on rock surfaces estimated to be between 50,000 and 28,000 years old with periods of higher humidity that allowed Palaeolithic explorers to mark the cave walls before they hardened over time Finding these engravings follows similar discoveries in other European caves These records have allowed us to understand that these primitive representations preceded figurative art becoming a key link in the evolution of human artistic expression Research Rincón de la Victoria will continue until summer 2025 at which time the scientific team will evaluate the possibility of requesting an extension from the Junta de Andalucía to extend the ongoing studies in addition to contributing to global scientific knowledge reinforces the municipality's position as a first class cultural and tourist destination promoting new initiatives for the enhancement and protection of the local archaeological heritage" drafting of projects and political negotiations Malaga city and Rincón de la Victoria are now paving the way for the full extension of the section of the Senda Litoral (coastal path) between the two municipalities The two councils have agreed on the division of tasks to complete a pedestrian route which is used by many people every day and which currently presents a serious danger to pedestrians as it has not been completed especially in the section next to El Candado marina The completion of this route between Malaga and La Cala del Moral has been divided into three projects two of which will be contracted by the Malaga city hall (one of them financed by the provincial authority and a third by Rincón de la Victoria town hall is the construction of the coastal path from El Dedo beach to the existing path from El Candado beach to the area around the Peñón del Cuervo This section will receive funding from the Diputación It is valued at more than 635,000 euros and the plan is to put the contract out to tender during the course of this year The second part is the completion and improvement of the Senda Litoral in the La Araña area where the route is not well defined and runs along very narrow and deteriorated stretches of footpath it is also Malaga city hall which is contracting and executing the work financing it with money from its own coffers It is valued at just under 1.7 million euros and is included in the urban development contracting plan for 2025 the third part of the operation provides for the renovation and improvement of the pedestrian footbridge which currently exists at the mouth of the Arroyo de Totalán and which connects the footpath with the western end of La Cala del Moral promenade whose refurbishment is valued at 504,805 euros the ownership of the land on which it is located has been shared since last year by the two councils The new municipal boundaries which were agreed and approved between the two localities has left the bridge in the hands of two owners: one half belongs to Malaga and the other half to Rincón after the ownership of the bridge was divided in two The Diputación is confident that the work on these three projects will get under way "as quickly as possible in order to make the Senda Litoral available to the public creating a safe and quality link between the two municipalities" In a scenario of severe drought restrictions in early 2024 the Greater Malaga metropolitan district began the search for water resources to make the area more self-sufficient should supply restrictions be enforced Rincón de la Victoria on the eastern Costa del Sol tightened its restrictions which with water cuts from 11pm to 7am every night bans on irrigation were introduced and beach showers were cut off The aim was to comply with the 91 litres per inhabitant set by the Andalusian drought management commission The current context is that the same body established a limit of 200 litres which has been in force since December 2024 following the abundant rains in autumn rainfall is not guaranteed and the problem is likely to return Rincón de la Victoria town hall started the procedure five wells to the water network which distribute water to houses in the town centre The first step was to check that this decision was risk-free which was confirmed in accordance with Royal Decree 3/2023 on the quality of water for human consumption the town hall began work on the adaptation of the wells; the preparations for their connection with work such as the installation of pumps and other equipment This phase is also already complete and with this approach the water obtained from the municipal wells is an asset that would be very important in the event of further restrictions these resources would provide up to 45 litres per second with nine litres per second; 'La Corta' and '8x' These improvements to the supply network have been combined with other actions including the installation of motorised valves at the outlet of the distribution tanks which have been integrated into a remote control system for the network These in turn automatically and immediately control the flow of water supplied to the population Waterproofing and other measures such as sewerage systems have also been reinforced as well as the renovation of the supply network in Los Cabreras where regular breakdowns had been detected These investments together exceed 400,000 euros which depends on La Viñuela reservoir and which is also awaiting the construction of the Axarquía desalination plant has developed other tools designed to measure and control consumption The Cueva de la Victoria in Rincón de la Victoria on the eastern Costa del Sol is one of the most interesting 'new' Upper Palaeolithic sites in the Mediterranean this ancient cave has become one of the most important sites to shed light on one of the greatest scientific debates: the last days of the Neanderthals and the arrival of Homo sapiens in Europe following authorisation from the Junta de Andalucía's cultural department the excavations will return to this place of cultural importance (BIC) in mid-October up to 20 people per day will have the opportunity to see the caves and the excavation work in situ "The rescue of the Cueva de la Victoria has been a great archaeological surprise as it was almost deserted because it was used to collect guano until the 20th century it also experienced episodes of squatting," archaeologist Pedro Cantalejo explained has been responsible for the campaigns in this cave for the last two years and for opening it to the public For the last four decades the research team has been working in the cave and has now started with the 20th century surveys by the archaeologists Giménez Reyna and Jorge Rein (1941) who studied the Upper Palaeolithic sequence who turned his attention to a space next to the large shaft in the so-called Sala de las Conchas (Chamber of Shells) The latter concluded that the occupation of the oldest cave dates back to the Magdalenian period a period to which the famous Altamira caves also belong The first intervention of the Espejo and Cantalejo team was based on the archaeological cleaning of the cave to uncover the previous excavations and "When we dated the calcareous deposits that accumulated we realised that underneath the floor investigated by Fortea there are remains from the Gravettian period of the first Homo sapiens who arrived on the Iberian Peninsula," explains the expert who dated the cave as much older than first thought; from 15,000 years ago to 28,800 years ago underneath the area excavated by Giménez Reyna and Rein who adds that "these discoveries have completely changed the way we look at the Cueva de la Victoria" as the new excavations that have been authorised and will begin in mid-October "place this site on an international level as it remains intact in the 21st century on the coast of Malaga which is also extraordinary because we are in one of the areas that is under the most urban development pressure in the Mediterranean" By proving that it has been a home to both the last Neanderthals and the first Homo sapiens the cave may provide new findings about that border and transition period between species which "We no longer see this area and the Strait of Gibraltar as a barrier but as a bridge with the interaction of the last groups of Neanderthals who took refuge in the Iberian Peninsula and the first Homo sapiens who jumped over producing a coexistence that lasted thousands of years and which has never been studied," says Cantalejo The archaeologist was also guardian of the Ardales cave until his recent retirement and maintains that he cannot avoid the parallels with the present day with the migrations from Africa to Europe in small boats that often end in tragedy The Cueva de la Victoria can provide new dates for the occupation of these populations in the province as "we are going to try to reach the last Neanderthal soil" who adds that the excavations will continue at least until 2025 with a new campaign next year as agreed with Rincón de la Victoria town hall the Cueva de Nerja research institute and the University of Cádiz have all supported the work being carried out in the cave the rock art will also be catalogued using imaging technologies while the team is supported by international universities and the Max Planck Institute in Leipzig one of the most cutting-edge scientific institutions with more than twenty Nobel Prizes won by its members The work is also interesting in that it is not carried out exclusively for research purposes meaning 20 people a day can have access to the Cueva de la Victoria during the excavations in two-hour visits at a cost of 16.50 euros which this year has a budget of 26,075 euros "Those who visit us use the same stairs and spaces and during the excavations we don't dismantle anything but rather we tell them what we are doing" A new nightly bus service started operating between Rincón de la Victoria on the eastern stretch of the Costa del Sol Rincón de la Victoria town hall signed an agreement with the Malaga area metropolitan transport consortium (Ctmam) meaning that there will now be a service in operation every night and on Fridays this line will extend its timetable until 3am From Sunday to Thursday there will be three departures from the Muelle de Heredia stop in Malaga to Rincón said: “We are making an important effort to improve transport in general and this is another step in that direction We will continue to respond to the demands of local residents and there will also be new developments soon in urban transport in Rincón de la Victoria.” Salado went on to say that the town hall is now working to improve the service from Los Rubios to the University of Malaga (UMA) and connections with the train station in Malaga that allow a connection via local train to Malaga Airport “‘This improvement will not only be an opportunity to travel at night from or to Malaga but indirectly allows night travel within the municipality by connecting along the coast the towns of Torre de Benagalbón Rincón de la Victoria and La Cala del Moral something that until this past July was impossible and will improve internal public transport in Rincón de la Victoria in the early hours of the morning.” The Encuentro Motero Torre de Benagalbon returns for its fourth edition Rincon de la Victoria’s town hall announced that the event will take place Saturday bringing together more than a thousand motorcycles from across Andalusia is expected to attract around 3,000 attendees A total of 15 motorcycle clubs from across the region will participate in this gathering which has significantly grown since its first edition The Encuentro Motero Torre de Benagalbon started with just 300 motorcycles in its first edition and has now surpassed the 1,000 mark Local authorities highlight the event’s positive impact on tourism, as many visitors extend their stay for the weekend or return to Rincón de la Victoria at a later date. “This biker meeting has become an important event for Rincon de la Victoria as a tourist destination More and more people from outside the area are coming or choosing to visit our city again,” said Francisco Salado The event will kick off with a motorcycle tour through the four main areas of the municipality: Torre de Benagalbon the former Torre de Benagalbón train station will feature live music with performances from Electroduendes and Stereo as well as a popular paella and various surprises and giveaways A family home in Rincón de la Victoria on the eastern stretch of the Costa del Sol was broken into by armed thieves wearing balaclavas at around midnight on Wednesday 4 June The 112 emergency service has confirmed that they received a call at 12.15am from a villa in the Cotomar residential area and that the Guardia Civil and 061 medical staff were quickly sent o the scene Emergency services attended to a 60-year-old man The three victims had injuries of varying degrees The incident happened in Calle Gladiolo and was carried out by an organised gang of at least four people The case is now being investigated by the Guardia Civil who are considering the hypothesis that the criminals may have received a tip-off that led them to plan the break in The burglars were reportedly carrying at least one pistol as well as an iron bar and they were wearing balaclavas and gloves the gang restrained the couple and their son using cable ties They then demanded that they open the safe sources close to the investigation explain that he was assaulted repeatedly until he agreed to the demand and suffered a series of head injuries as a result The assailants made off with hit In Axarquia and throughout Malaga residents also endured heavy rainfall and flooding disrupting daily life and temporarily leaving some areas isolated people are rallying across the region to offer aid and neighbourhood associations have been working together to collect essential supplies for those most affected by the flooding and hygiene items have been packed and sent to Valencia where families are still struggling to recover and will be for some time International charities are also stepping in organising fundraising events throughout Axarquia and beyond Their efforts are helping increase support across Spain and beyond building momentum for the long road to recovery Many emergency crews like the Proteccion Civil from Rincon de la Victoria went to help search for DANA victims and to help with the cleanup and other logistical issues after the flooding check Facebook groups or your town hall’s website for information on how to contribute Many organisations are still collecting donations and could use a helping hand in this time of crisis Read more Axarquia news, articles and events here A study carried out by the Associated European Motorists Association (AEA) has revealed that the 50 speed cameras in Spain that dish out the most fines making the region one of the most punished in the country The speed camera near Velez-Málaga is the second most trigger-happy in the country after on the M-40 in Madrid In 2023 it gave out nearly 69 thousand fines while the fourth most costly speed camera was the one on the A-7 near Velez-Málaga with 33,310 fines At a regional level, Andalusia receives more speeding fines than any other autonomous community in the country The AEA study raises the question of whether radars are fulfilling their accident prevention function or if they have become a money-making tool According to the president of the association since in many of these points the high number of fines shows that it is not possible to reduce at times due to needing to overtake slower-moving traffic Attend a festival of music at the Treasure Cave in Rincón de la Victoria where there will be four spectacular live acts for you to see The first cohousing project in Rincón de la Victoria on the eastern Costa del Sol will be a reality in August 2025 with 65 members already signed up and confirmed and a waiting list Tartessos Málaga is the cooperative behind the project in La Cala del Moral Rincón de la Victoria town hall welcomed what was defined as "an alternative residential and care space for the elderly based on the concept of cohousing" through a cooperative run by Tartessos Málaga explained that the building is a group of housing units in which there are no owners which is revalued according to the CPI consumer price index which can be inherited by their descendants," he explained but in Spain we are a little late," López added There will be 65 members each contributing 140,000 euros they only get back what they have invested plus an update in line with the increase in the cost of living "It's the opposite of speculation," López said There are 65 members who work in a very regulated way with many filters to avoid any possible misconduct "Here the members work at zero cost and contribute their knowledge; among the group there are lawyers and doctors," he explained 70 per cent of what each participant has to put in has already been paid In La Cala del Moral Tartessos Málaga will generate 20 jobs with the project offering services such as carers The main motivation for this type of housing proposal is to combat loneliness "When you close the door of your house when you are 70 years old and there is no one there it is hard," said López With the aim of beating loneliness in old age the promoters began to look for land: hotels or land that was less attractive to construction companies The land they found in La Cala del Moral had been occupied by a convent the backing of the Andalusian federation of worker cooperative enterprises who is one of the partners and who contributed his experience in this type of joint action Vélez-Málaga has recently given the green light to a similar initiative which is planned for a site near the Axarquia regional hospital in Torre del Mar will be in charge of offering a series of dramatised visits to the Cueva del Tesoro de Rincón de la Victoria on the eastern Costa del Sol throughout 2025 during which visitors learn about the history of the cave through its legends and characters said that "tickets have sold out well in advance in recent years The dramatised visits include characters such as the discoverer of the cave the representation of an Upper Palaeolithic man and the goddess Noctiluca The visits take place in groups of 30 people with two visits every last Sunday of the month at 11am and 12.30pm Last year more than 700 people enjoyed the experience the only cave of marine origin open to the public in Europe Children from a local primary school have laid the symbolic first stone of the new Mediterranean park In Rincón de la Victoria on the eastern Costa del Sol A group of children studying at the Josefina Aldecoa school took an active part in the laying of the first stone of what is "the biggest and most ambitious project" in the town He explained that 935 new trees are to be planted and 80 replanted and that in total up to 30,121 new species of shrubs will be introduced in the green area The schoolchildren each placed legal tender coins in a time capsule as they dug the first hole during the ceremony on Tuesday 11 February President of the local mountaineering club and other representatives of the group also introduced some drawings that the young explorers had made for the time capsule the president of the association of shopkeepers and entrepreneurs and other representatives of the local community also took part The symbolic act marked the start of the first phase of the park which will see an investment of 4.4 million euros and a completion period of 12 months which will cover a total area of 137,683 square metres next to the Benagalbón stream and the area where the La Marina school is located The first phase will be carried out by Unión Temporal de Empresas Construcciones Maygar The park will be enclosed and have three entrance gates which will give direct access to what has been named Plaza Polivalente (multi-purpose square) "We will leave for future generations a leisure sport and nature complex never seen before in Rincón de la Victoria which will have a large children's area of 2,265 square metres a large forest area with a lake of 4,515 square metres and a total of six linear kilometres for pedestrian paths Malaga province holds an unenviable record: its roads are among those that register the most speeding fines issued year after year above areas with much larger populations .. This sad news appears in the statistics of the "50 point and section radars that are least respected" drawn up by Spain's Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT) Malaga has the speed camera that issues the second highest number of fines in the country This is the speed camera at kilometre point 968.2 of the A-7 motorway within the Rincón de la Victoria bypass where traffic has grown exponentially in recent years due to the flood of people who have settled down in this municipality as well as around Vélez-Málaga and other areas of the Axarquía It is worth remembering that this stretch has several successive bends and so the speed is limited to 80 km/h In 2023 no less than 66,869 fines were issued here The number one spot is currently held by the speed camera at kilometre 20.2 of the M-40 in the region of Madrid where 118,149 drivers were snapped speeding Bear in mind though that Malaga has been number one in several of the previous 'charts' as SUR has been monitoring these figures for more than a decade Doubly unfortunate is the fact that the aforementioned speed camera is not the only heavy finer in Malaga province: the statistics provide further locations where infractions occur in volume that do not exactly put Malaga drivers in a good light in terms of respect for With third place going to a radar located in Navarra the fourth placed one in the country to catch speeding drivers is an old acquaintance: the one everyone calls "the Cerrado de Calderón speed camera" This veteran of automated speed control is located near the exit for El Palo on the eastbound side of Malaga city's ring road in the direction of Almeria Again the maximum speed is limited to 80km/h with the radar imposing 45,522 fines in a one-year period There has been an increase in speeding fines issued in Malaga province from 2022 to 2023 Speed is the traffic violation that has risen most among all possible offences It goes on and on: we now know that in Malaga there are two of the 10 most active speed cameras in the country but there are seven in total of the 50 that form part of the national ranking by the DGT three are at different points along the A-7 motorway and in addition to the two mentioned previously there is a section speed camera inside one of the Torrox tunnels heading in the direction of Almeria with a speed limit of 100km/h Remember that controls of this type measure the maximum speed constantly not just at a specific point as happens with fixed radar The access to Malaga city from Antequera on the Las Pedrizas motorway has two busy devices: one section speedcam at the Casabermeja tunnels (maximum 80 km/h at all times) Then the downhill section just past the fork between the dual carriageway and the AP-46 motorway at the top of the mountain pass (maximum 100 km/h) The list is completed by two very different point radars: one is in a full-on city location on the MA-20 westbound ring road just before the Carlos Haya 'false' tunnel in the direction of Cadiz This is one of the newer ones and was installed to reduce the very high accident rate at this very spot It is on a downhill section with an 80 km/h limit specifically on what is known as the Carretera del Arco (A-356) The speedcam is installed at kilometre 36.5 in the municipality of La Viñuela The subdelegation of the Spanish government has declined SUR's request for the provincial branch of the DGT in Malaga to review these data agreed to review the data on fines issued and concluded: "In Malaga they have risen dramatically." Specifically penalties for speeding have increased by 22% compared to the previous year which takes into account any cause (drink-driving Overall fines have increased for non-compliance with the highway code in Malaga Among the causes this motoring expert has several hypotheses The first is that the top spot in the province for the speed camera issuing most fines has changed from year to year depends on how often they are active - as they can be switched on and off for maintenance purposes - and not so much on the attitude of the drivers in last year's ranking there were several on the A-7 and the MA-20 that do not appear there are other reasons like the high volume of traffic on the main network and the fact that there are more tourists in this province - they are not regular users and therefore do not know the roads and the location of the controls Arnaldo highlighted one issue above all: "Drivers do not perceive the speed limit of the radars to be appropriate and therefore exceed it without realising it." Spain's state weather agency Aemet has updated its weather forecast for Wednesday 13 November revealing the areas in Malaga province where it is most likely to rain the most between 100 and 120mm could fall during the day on Wednesday in the upper Axarquía areas the La Viñuela reservoir will receive a big boost The second highest risk area (between 80 and 100mm) would be in the eastern part of Malaga city (El Palo as well as in the municipality of Rincón de la Victoria and its surroundings; and Casabermeja lower amounts of between 20 and 40mm are expected the central part of the Costa del Sol and the Guadalhorce valley which remains at amber level for Malaga city It has also refined its scope of possible heavy rainfall "The warning refers to the eastern part of the province," Aemet said on its website It has also slightly raised the threshold of what is to be expected The risk remains active from 3am on Wednesday until 8am on Thursday The Vega de Antequera is also included in the list of high-risk areas with an amber warning for "the westernmost part of the province" such as the municipalities of Archidona meteorologists said there could be downpours of up to 40mm in one hour and 105mm in 12 hours A yellow warning has been issued for Ronda where 20mm is expected to fall in one hour and 60mm in 12 hours; while the warning for Malaga city the Costa del Sol and the Guadalhorce valley has been extended to Thursday 8am Two men were stabbed in separate fights on the eastern Costa del Sol last weekend The first incident happened on Friday 7 February outside a hairdressers on Avenida del Mediterráneo in Rincón de la Victoria and the second happened the following day near Burger King on Avenida de Andalucía in Torre del Mar In Rincón de la Victoria a 28-year-old man was taken to the town's health centre after being stabbed in the course of a fight involving around six people and the people involved are believed to have known each other Guardia Civil police officers and emergency medical services were called to the scene No further details of the victim's state of health have been released the injuries were not serious and there was no fear for his life The second incident happened just 24 hours later in this case in the middle of Torre del Mar resulting in a 20-year-old man being stabbed and injured The victim was taken to the Hospital Comarcal de la Axarquía where he remains although his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening The National Police are investigating the incident and those involved have been identified as there are several security cameras in the vicinity as well as in other coastal locations throughout Spain will honour the Virgen del Carmen with pilgrimages and processions to mark the feast day of Our Lady of Mount Carmel on 16 July Some of the smaller towns and villages mark the feast with a solemn parade through the streets while others hold lavish processions that culminate in the Virgin being escorted out to sea assisted by dozens of 'jábegas' the Virgin blesses the waters and remembers those who have died at sea in the previous year This is one of the oldest traditions in Malaga a festivity that combines its seafaring roots and the province's devotion to the patron of the sea while captivating locals and tourists alike with its historical significance and festivities This tradition goes back to the Old Testament prophet who lived as a hermit in a cave on Mount Carmel Legend says that the Virgin Mary appeared to the prophet on Mount Carmel a long piece of cloth worn as a religious sacrament it became popular with pilgrims heading to the 13th century chapel dedicated to the Blessed Virgin to ask for her protection The Virgin of Carmel is patron of the Carmelite order a mendicant order of the Roman Catholic Church which is thought to have been founded in the 12th century Carmen derives from the Hebrew Al-Karem (meaning the garden or vineyard of God) and her veneration has been spread throughout the world by the Carmelites a Carmelite named Simon Stock is said to have seen a vision of the Virgin of Carmel on 16 July 1251 Historical evidence concerning his life is inconsistent although medieval documents show he hosted the first general chapter of the Carmelite Order held outside the Holy Land and that he was responsible for expanding the order in southern and western Europe The Virgin is said to have given him the Carmelite habit promising him it would save those who wore it The scapular received papal recognition in 1587 the General Chapter of London gave permission for a Carmelite order to be founded in Spain Popular devotion to the Virgen del Carmen began to take hold in Spain around the end of the 13th century This veneration is demonstrated by the fact that the first names Carmen and María del Carmen are among the most popular girls' names in Spain and Spanish-speaking countries María Cristina de Habsburgo (mother of King Alfonso XIII) and the Duke of Veragua (minister of the Navy) endorsed a Royal Order by which the Virgen del Carmen was made patron of the Spanish Navy Although the feast day is mainly celebrated in coastal towns in Spain there are a few inland locations that also venerate the Virgen del Carmen Locations from Nerja to Estepona will host festivities in honour of the Virgen del Carmen on Tuesday hold a fair to coincide with the celebration processions take place in the district of Pedregalejo The festivities in El Palo include the image of the Virgin being taken to a specific point on the La Malagueta beach where it is submerged to a small niche located at the bottom of the bay the Malaga Divers Association which is home to Malaga province's largest fishing harbour in terms of number of boats the town's fishermen traditionally cook a giant paella which they share with locals and visitors as their way of giving thanks to the town that supports the industry The image of La Virgen del Carmen is then taken out to sea on a fishing boat before being brought back to the parish church La Virgen del Carmen was officially recognised as patron saint of the town by the Vatican in 2023 Here the image is carried around the streets of the town and then like in Caleta she is taken out to sea before being returned to the chapel Other processions take place in Benalmádena see the relevant town hall social media or websites The construction work for a new residential development in one of the busiest areas of Rincón de la Victoria Not a single brick has been laid on the land which is next to the town hall a a preliminary archaeological dig is taking place as the discovery of some remains dating back to the Al-Andalus period falls into the Junta de Andalucía's protection zone of the Bien de Interés Cultural 'ZA4 Castillo de Bezmiliana' (Bezmiliana Castle) protected area the proposed building work affect the area of influence of the old Muslim medina which is why a survey is being carried out This is a sensitive matter and for this reason and although the regional government indicates that these subsoil study works are the responsibility of the developer it points out that they are authorised and supervised by the Junta's culture department "We haven't found anything," says the archaeologist in charge of the investigation which has been protected since 2009 by the Junta de Andalucía and is included in the Catálogo General del Patrimonio Histórico Andaluz (general catalogue of Andalusian historical heritage) is what remains of the original Al-Andalus settlement in Rincón de la Victoria and also serves to show its transformation in the later Christian period This testimony to Rincón's past came to light following searches carried out between Avenida de la Candelaria at the junction with the Camino Viejo de Vélez The obligation to preserve it covers three specific areas so the excavations in the surrounding area will provide more details about the local history director of the Museum of Nerja and responsible for the Roman villa of Antiopa in Torre de Benagalbón explains: "Excavations are being carried out there as the Andalusian necropolis of Bezmiliana was discovered in the nearby town hall." the investigations carried out have only been able to locate part of an old tobacconist's shop and the house that stood at what is now number 113 There is a fence which preserves the excavation process and prevents accidents to personnel outside the project "We have already gone down more than two metres and who are also closely monitoring the process The remains could even be integrated into the new building An example of this is in Torre de Benalgabón where the Antiopa Roman villa occupies the ground floor of a block of flats There will be three night events for youngsters and teens in the 'RV Teen Fest' we will be able to experience something unique for the younger ones The RV Teen Fest will be one of the biggest events in Rincón exclusively thought for the entertainment of the younger ones This event will be part of a summer of great plans during Summer Nights in Rincón de la Victoria There will be three special night events for the local and visitor youngsters on July 4th You will need to mark these days as the best occassion to experience a different night with music for teens to enjoy The annual report of Spain's Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) puts figures on what many long-suffering drivers experience on a daily basis Motorway exits to Malaga city have broken all records and now exceed 252,279 journeys each day The figure represents an increase of 12,533 cars in a single year The biggest problem occurs on the routes between Rincón de la Victoria the infrastructure between the Ronda Este and Rincón was inaugurated in 2003 as an alternative to the traffic jams at the time at La Araña the number of car journeys have skyrocketed and the alternatives are poor Intensidad del tráfico en los accesos a Málaga when the Ronda Este-Rincón ring road was still new 57,182 vehicles entered or left Malaga via the Ronda Este ring road This is a sharp increase: 34 per cent and 19,696 vehicles in two decades traffic in this area grew by 2,558 cars per day The solution to the problem is a long time coming It was not until May last year that Spain's Ministry of Transport awarded the contract to look into alternatives to the consultancy firm Ayesa On the table were the widening of the road a rapid-transit lane or even a new dual carriageway On the western side of the city the trend is clearly upwards While in 2004 there were 115,410 vehicles per day The most pronounced growth has taken place in the last twelve months the ministry is planning to widen the dual carriageway to three lanes with the demolition of the current bridge and an alternative route further north 190 million euros are planned and the project is in the design and environmental impact phase The idea of a bus-VAO lane between Torremolinos and Malaga The project is situated on the A-7 motorway and starts at kilometre 228.5 and is approximately eight kilometres long from the first junction of the route at the Los Álamos exit the motorway changes its name to the MA-20 at the La Colina residential area and train station the point where the reduction from three to two lanes in each direction of traffic currently begins and extends to approximately kilometre 7.5 of the MA-20 motorway where the branches begin at the junction where the western ring road intersects the A-357 motorway and from where Avenida de Andalucía starts Access from inland of the province has also grown and shows that many people work in Malaga and have moved to other municipalities 4,045 new cars have been added to the junctions to the north of the city: some 50,394 a day The A-357 is not included in the report because it is the responsibility of the regional government the university and the entrance to the Police Station Sando is the company contracted by the Consejería de Fomento to build the bus lane-VAO The latest figures indicate more than 74,000 vehicles per day The project will cost more than 8.5 million euros and should be ready by summer The overall volume of traffic coming into Malaga city had only experienced the same percentage growth in 2015 because the years affected by the pandemic have to be excluded It is an issue that is firmly on the technical and political agenda The solutions put on the table point to the promotion of public transport that the new map of interurban concessions The procedures and studies to activate new lines adjusted to demand will still take five years Also on the table are projects that are still a long way off the improvement of the capacity of the Cercanías (even with double-decker trains) or the possible extension of the Malaga metro the study for which will not begin until next summer the Dirección General de Tráfico (DGT) brought in a new ‘Express Fine’ scheme in which those with a pending fine and signed up to the electronic notifications system will receive a text message to their phone messages and emails However, and it is a big HOWEVER, we drivers need to be extra vigilant. There are scammers about The DGT has brought in the new scheme in which ‘express’ and quick notifications reach drivers to drastically reduce the time it normally takes for a fine to reach those who have a speeding or other driving fine from an average of 52 days to just 7 days or less when the driver is registered in the Electronic Road Address (DEV) of the DGT the notification can arrive as soon as 48 hours which is mandatory for all legal entities (companies) since November 1 One of its objectives is to raise awareness, as drivers will then be more conscious of their infractions almost instantly. Or, they will more easily be able to claim against those fines they feel are unjust The payment method of fines is also facilitated and the offender will potentially benefit from a 50 per cent discount on the total amount if they pay it within the first 20 days of receiving the notification The DEV is a kind of online mailbox where drivers can receive their traffic penalties electronically either through an email or an SMS to the mobile phone the notification will then be understood as rejected and the process will follow its course at the full 100 percent of the fine will be expected those who have committed a road misdemeanour pay for it at half the price fake text messages are already widely circulating warning drivers of a fine that does not exist goading them into paying the non-existent penalty online to a fake DGT account While it may be genuinely possible to pay a real fine via your telephone take these couple of pieces of advice so as not to be left out of pocket: Upon reception of a supposed fine by mobile text message check the address of the Internet link it asks you to click on DGT messages will begin with ‘dgt.es’ while the fraudulent ones begin ‘https://dgte-esd.cgd/es’ This is a link hoping you will pay them a non-existent fine and then hold on to your bank account details to swipe a few euros each month until you notice and go to the bank to cancel your card If you already have the electronic notification system always double-check it before heeding to any demands for you to pay beforehand just wait for the traditional mail version a fine which you have to sign for to verify legal reception The scammers and thousands around Spain are expected to receive the fake messages over the coming weeks The provincial association of builders and developers of Malaga (ACP Málaga) has released a study that puts figures on the housing deficit suffered by the province: of 32 municipalities analysed only seven (22% of the total) have built enough homes to to meet housing demand in the last decade if we focus on Malaga city and the immediate surrounding area (Malaga between 2014 and 2024 there has been a gap of more than 14,000 homes between those that have been built (19,570) and the population increase that required almost 34,000 new homes "Most municipalities are facing a severe housing shortage that is straining the housing market and driving up prices," states the ACP report every new household should have a new home available in much of the Costa del Sol this ratio has not been achieved leading to fierce competition for the few available properties and causing price increases," explain the report authors Estepona and Benahavís stand out for having achieved a balance between supply and demand building at least one home for every new household created "These municipalities have managed to maintain a more stable real estate market At the other end of the scale is Rincón de la Victoria Not only does it have the worst construction ratio in relation to its population growth but it is also the worst-performing coastal municipality in the province in terms of new builds It scores worst in the ACP study for not having been able to generate enough housing to absorb the increase in demand for housing which puts it in a critical position in the housing market coupled with the fact that it is part of the wider suburban area for Malaga city and subject to high demand for holiday housing in the area could generate an even more stressed housing market in the coming years making access to housing more difficult for residents and new buyers alike The study also analysed how the housing shortage has influenced the increase in the price per square metre The report notes a direct correlation between the municipalities that have lower construction rates and are experiencing steeper price increases this correlation demonstrates "the need for policies that encourage the construction of new housing." For some time now this trade association has been calling for an emergency urban development plan that would urgently boost the creation of urban land being freed for more building as it is the main raw material for the construction of new housing ACP's president in Malaga - Ignacio Peinado who also represents the association for all Andalucía has warned of the urgency of freeing up land for development and speeding up the administrative procedures for new developments: "The lack of housing is a structural problem that requires an immediate response We need greater legal certainty and a regulatory framework that allows us to meet the growing demand without making access to housing even more expensive It is time to apply emergency urban planning and take advantage of all the tools available to ensure that our municipalities grow in a sustainable way and with sufficient housing supply." he insists that it is imperative that the different governing bodies must facilitate the financing of development works so as to accelerate the transformation of developable land into land ready for the construction of new housing the housing shortage will continue to grow exacerbating the problems of land access and making the market even more expensive The ACP also underlines the unique opportunity offered to these municipalities to make the most of the housing decree offered by the regional government This decree provides tools to speed up the construction of affordable housing Ittherefore calls upon the municipalities with the greatest difficulties in generating housing and which are currently at the bottom of the ranking to make public their "municipal action plan" to reverse this situation Transparency and the implementation of effective strategies will be key to improving the availability of housing and ensuring sustainable urban development on the Costa del Sol This will not be the case for many workers in the commerce sector in Malaga province though according to the calendar approved by the Andalusian trade council for this year some 16 public holidays will be authorised by the Junta de Andalucía municipalities declared as a 'Zona de Gran Afluencia Turística' (zone of great tourist influence) - as is the case of the Malaga city - will be able to open throughout Holy Week as was the case last year and also the year before it will be possible to go shopping in the capital of the Costa del Sol and many parts of the province both the retail and hospitality areas of the Larios Centro Plaza Mayor and McArthurGlen Designer Outlet Málaga shopping centres as well as the Málaga Nostrum shopping park Verdecora and Muelle Uno will also be open to the public Shops with a surface area of less than 300 metres are free to decide whether or not to open on these special days the El Corte Inglés centres in Mijas and Marbella El Ingenio (Vélez-Málaga) and Centro Comercial CostasolCentro (Torremolinos) are also authorised to open throughout Holy Week Residents of three Malaga province municipalities - Rincón de la Victoria have expressed their unhappiness with the project that Arena Green Power company plans to build a wind farm in the Axarquía area Among the reasons behind the opposition are lthe scarring of the landscape earthquake risks and questionable economic and environmental benefits Projects for large solar and wind farms have generated a great deal of opposition in several Andalusian provinces in recent years despite the public administrations making a firm commitment to their development as an alternative to fossil fuels Although its steep terrain makes it a much less feasible area for the installation of wind farms the Axarquiaarea has not escaped this fever for clean energy According to the project currently processed by the Junta de Andalucía Arena Green Power has proposed to install eight large wind turbines in a rural area that includes part of the municipalities of Rincón de la Victoria the initiative has already met with the "outright rejection" of the residents and town halls of these three municipalities as reflected in several initiatives promoted on social media the municipal authorities have also responded in writing to the documents that were registered by the developer last year have sent a letter to the energy company expressing their "total rejection" of the plans They have stated that the area relies on agriculture and tourism so such a project would not bring any benefit Serving as spokespersons for the residents Burkhalter told SUR of their "neighbours' concerns" about the first wind farm project in the Axarquia "This will affect a large area of the countryside that is an essential part of a unique landscape and heritage Traditional paths will disappear and be replaced by huge roads The landscape will be subjected to gigantic covering an area the size of half a football field" "There is no evidence that the wind conditions at the chosen site are sufficient The project is questionable from an economic and ecological perspective as well as major road works and other infrastructure," they stated Residents fear that "there is a high risk that taxpayers' money will be wasted as the project will not provide sufficient benefits" "The material from the turbines cannot be recycled or reused and will have to be disposed of on site Wind turbines cause serious accidents: in the UK more than 220 people lost their lives between 2000 and 2021 mainly caused by blade failures or similar incidents more than 3,000 accidents resulting in injuries of varying severity were recorded during the same period," they said What residents are also concerned about is the high seismic risk that the area where the turbines will be built poses This forecasts "dangerous and unpredictable consequences in the event of an earthquake" locals want to see the Axarquia countryside preserved - a landscape that will change with the appearance of such industrial constructions "It will no longer be attractive for recreational activities Investment in tourist activities will disappear and income from tourism will disappear," they said residents have suggested the renovation and extension of the photovoltaic solar park located in Moclinejo "Why build a new wind farm less than two kilometres away This makes us suspect that perhaps the project is driven by subsidies from the EU which could disproportionately favour the creation of projects over more sustainable reforms," they said Rincón de la Victoria town hall on the eastern stretch of the Costa del Sol is looking for a private company to provide "a qualified service of attention and detailed and personalised information" for visitors to Villa Antiopa the Centro de Interpretación del Folklore Malagueño and the Casa Fuerte Bezmiliana All of these are tourist and cultural spaces owned by the town hall Interested companies had until 15 July to apply and There are two bidders from Malaga: BCM Gestión de Servicios a limited company with its registered office in the city; and another with an international presence which is presented in a joint venture with Salzillo Servicios Integrales also with a multinational scope like Sando The tender amounts to 478,318.63 euros for the first year although the overall amount exceeds 1.6 million euros BCM Gestión de Servicios presents itself as an expert in helping "outsourcing of human resources to all types of organisations" and where it undertook tasks for the Julián Sesmero Ruiz Study Centre at local and provincial level; As for Sando its work with public administrations is carried out in different areas in the specific case of the tender for tourist and cultural spaces in Rincón it opts for the hand of Salzillo Servicios Integrales the possibility of taking on tasks in museums and cultural spaces were awarded the management of Malaga province's famous Caminito del Rey gorge walk in 2021 Eulen won the contract for visitor management at the Casa Natal de Pablo Ruiz Picasso and other venues in Malaga The formula that the Rincón town hall is going to implement for half a dozen cultural and visitor spaces is already applied in Villa Antiopa Last year the Cueva del Tesoro beat the historical record of visitors with 94,030 entries according to the data made public on the occasion of the celebration of half a century of opening to the public of this heritage site in Rincon 47,980 people have already visited it; hence the forecasts are to exceed last year's records mayor of Rincón de la Victoria on the eastern stretch of the Costa del Sol has announced that the future Parque Periurbano del Mediterráneo a large green space in Torre de Benagalbón will include the recovery of the old train carriage which has been on the land planned for the green area for years The carriage in question comes from Salamanca it was part of a 'ferrobus' convoy that had served between 1970 and 1984 But how did it end up in Rincón de la Victoria Spain's state railway operator Renfe made it available to the town hall when it transformed the former railway station With the idea of giving a nod to the old train that connected Malaga city with Vélez-Málaga with stops along the coast an attempt was made to place some of its original elements The vehicle from Salamanca was transformed into a reading room as a tribute to the Malaga railway and it remained like this until 2008 when the Antonio de Hilaria public library was inaugurated was abandoned and fell into disrepair and suffered vandalism There was an attempt to save it in the 2010s by the Tran-Bus de Málaga association a group created in 2006 by employees of Empresa Malagueña de Transportes (EMT) this old train carriage will have a new life this time integrated into the future Mediterranean park in the area around the street where the wagon sits and the surrounding area with an initial investment of 4.7 million euros It will be a new space with an artificial lake Once this new municipal facility has been enhanced and restored for its new uses work on the future park will begin at the beginning of next year Two new establishments have been added to the ‘Rincón Sin Gluten’ network in Rincón de la Victoria on the eastern stretch of the Costa del Sol together with the president of the Malaga coeliac association (ACEMA) have renewed the annual agreement for the implementation of joint activities aimed at improving the promotion of catering establishments offering gluten-free options Salado stressed “the importance of increasing the awareness of the population and promoting measures that contribute to improving the quality of life of people with coeliac disease through advice and information in the town.” Interested establishments can contact Rincón de la Victoria town hall's health and consumer affairs department on the following telephone numbers: 952911332/ 607983852 or by email: rinconsingluten@rincondelavictoria.es The website www.rincondelavictoria.es/rincon-sin-gluten also has more information The Mancomunidad association of town halls in the Axarquía on the eastern side of Malaga province and its public water company Axaragua approved on Wednesday 19 February a rise in water rates paid by 14 of the 31 municipalities in the area Amendments presented by the socialist PSOE and right-wing Vox political parties were rejected The new rates entail an increase of 35.29 per cent in the water supply paid by the fourteen municipalities that receive their drinking water from the El Trapiche treatment plant in Vélez-Málaga and 27.12 per cent in the case of treatment which together have a population of around 180,000 inhabitants which rises to 230,000 in the summer season the municipalities affected are Vélez-Málaga These new rates have been approved with the votes in favour of the four-party government team of the Partido Popular (PP) the GIPMTM (Independent Torre del Mar party which is in coalition with the PP in Vélez-Málaga) with the rejection of PSOE and the abstention of Izquierda Unida (IU) The president of the Mancomunidad and Axaragua since the rates for supply has not been revised since 2008 and that of treatment since 2018 "Either it is approved or the company is going to close," he said at the time The debt carried by Axaragua is around 9.1 million euros according to technical documentation to which SUR has had access from 0.3274 to 0.4429 euros per cubic metre in the case of water supply and from 0.4702 to 0.5977 in the case of sewerage this does not mean that residents will immediately pay these increases in their water and sewerage bills as it will now be up to each of the affected councils to decide whether or not to pass them on to end users for an average consumption of ten cubic metres per month per household the increase would be 1.44 euros per month Martín explained that the rise is being implemented to compensate for increases in the costs of electricity salaries and materials used to treat water from La Viñuela reservoir to make it drinkable and for the four waste water treatment plants Martin stressed that the rise in costs and Last year an increase in the tariffs for water supply was already approved to cover the extra cost of water being brought from Malaga city due to the then minimal reserves in La Viñuela when three million euros were paid between the 14 municipalities It is unusual for Rincón de la Victoria on the eastern strip of the Costa del Sol which has historically been considered something of a climatic refuge from the intense summer heat by the inhabitants of Malaga city to set the national record in Spain for maximum temperatures But the hot 'terral' wind affects these things and depending on how it blows it has a greater influence in some places than in others the Malaga province municipality reached 39C degrees the highest temperature of the day in the whole of Spain according to the data available on the website of the state weather agency (Aemet) as many as seven stations in the province were among the hottest places in the country marked by moderate gusts of wind from the west and high clouds The effect of the terral was also high in Vélez-Málaga which tied the maximum temperature with its neighbouring municipality (39C) at 3.50pm At similar levels there was Estepona at 38.8C; Torremolinos (38.6 degrees); Malaga Airport (38.3C); Algarrobo (37.9 degrees) and the Aemet headquarters in Malaga city (37.8C) high temperatures were also recorded in Spain in Tejeda (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria) with 38.8C; Murcia city (38.6)C; and Alhama de Murcia (37.9C) Although we will have to wait for these data to be validated by Aemet's meteorologists (it is usual for them to rise slightly) the thermometers already indicate the extent of the episode of warm weather that has been experienced today This summer Axarquia has been one of the hottest areas of the country on other occasions In the previous episode of terral at the beginning of August Vélez-Málaga already had one of the highest maximum temperatures in Spain And again Rincón de la Victoria was very close The truth is that today's heat episode was less intense than expected especially in the inland areas of the Guadalhorce valley explained it by the coincidence of the passage of a weather trough which has prevented the mercury from soaring but it will be milder and only during the day as it is expected to turn east again in the evening "a few drops" of rain could fall (Aemet gives a 55% chance) in the province it will be nothing like what is expected in the neighbouring province of Almeria which is under a yellow warning for rainfall of up to 20mm Another indicator of what is to come is the temperature of the sea water which today measured 25.6C at the buoy in the Port of Malaga It has already dropped more than one degree since yesterday (26.8) By Thursday it is expected to have dropped to about 22 degrees so that the sensation of heat and high temperatures will decrease Sooner or later the cold weather puts in an appearance in Malaga province for the winter With any cold front the fireplaces in the province's most traditional restaurants and taverns are lit to welcome customers In many of them it is also the ideal time to savour the best comfort foods such as 'migas' a fried-breadcrumb dish of humble origins associated with cold Teaming up this type of food with a roaring fire is a gastronomic pairing few could resist from December to February Here are some of those places where migas and a good fireplace in the dining room are not found lacking on these wintry days This is one of the most traditional restaurants in Malaga province At the foot of the Sierra de las Cabras mountain range it is time to light the fireplace and savour its 'migas completas' (fried breadcrumbs with other ingredients added) they go to town on these dishes as much as many others on their menu where tradition is not at odds with quality or good presentation It is one of the oldest inns in the province Location In the corner of Malaga that is Rincón de la Victoria there are several restaurants that still make 'migas benalbinas' the nickname of this village that was once the most important town in the municipality Among them is the one located just off the main road known for its grilled meats but also for being one of the most committed to Malaga cuisine As well as a good 'gazpachuelo' (a hot version of gazpacho that comes with extra ingredients) or a gamey dish from the surrounding hills (Los Montes) there is no shortage of migas with pork loin In the main dining area you can warm up by the fireplace Location Oranges and pomegranates usually accompany the migas at this restaurant in Valle de Abdalajís known for its commitment to the most traditional gastronomy since its very beginnings With a good crusty bread that is also made in Valle de Abdalajís the migas are cooked over a low heat with small pieces of 'chorizo' and 'zurrapa de lomo' (pork loin sausage) The 'colorá' lard (the orange colour comes from using paprika) makes this dish more creamy other ingredients such as fried eggs or more chorizo are added on the side They can be ordered simply with oranges and pomegranates plus the pork-based ingredients necessary to give flavour and texture to the breadcrumbs The restaurant has a large fireplace in its dining area Location In the Guadalhorce valley there are also many options where you can enjoy traditional migas relatively close to the fireplace One of the best examples is Los Morenos venta which is also one of the oldest in the area with over 50 years of history in its cosy dining room with a splendid fireplace you can enjoy migas during the coldest months of the year which are as traditional as they are tasty Location located just before entering the village of Comares has two fireplaces to give warmth and atmosphere to all corners of the dining room As such customers get to enjoy not only a pleasant temperature indoors but also two other fundamental attractions to be found in this locale the panoramic views that live up to the tourist slogan of the locality as the 'balcón de la Axarquía' Then there's the traditional gastronomy of the area To these must be added other essential dishes from the local cuisine such as 'chivo al ajillo' (roasted goat kid in garlic) 'carrillada' (pork cheeks) or 'leche frita' (fried milk curd) Location It is one of the oldest eateries in Andalucía although it is difficult to know in which year it was founded those who have visited this place know perfectly well that one of the star dishes is the 'huevos a lo bestia' which is a generous portion of traditional migas accompanied by a generous piece of pork loin a couple of eggs are served to give the name to this typical Malaga winter dish It is best to book a table near the fireplace to best enjoy it Location Located opposite the Zambra mountain slopes linking Antequera to Malaga a name used by Miguel de Cervantes in his writings this old coaching inn is one of the ideal places to take shelter from the cold at this time of year For one thing there is a sizeable fireplace in the centre of the dining room one of its most famous dishes is its migas which are cooked the old-fashioned way with a great deal of patience and the heat of the firewood It is a combination that attracts many diners in the colder months of the year in search of the most genuine gastronomy of the Montes de Málaga Location On the winding road that links Malaga with Colmenar there are many restaurants where there is no shortage of migas or a good fireplace That is why a good option is the one known as Venta Galwey located at a crossroads between the Montes de Málaga and the village of Comares There the fireplace is almost as generous as the portion of migas that is usually served on the coldest days of the year Location In the Serranía de Ronda there are many options for enjoying genuine migas there are also restaurants where it is easy to find them at this time of year Then there are some where there is a fireplace close by as is the case of the Audalázar restaurant in Atajate the least inhabited village in the Ronda area that nevertheless boasts a good range of restaurants Location in inland Malaga province there are many other places where on the coldest days of the year you can enjoy migas by the fire Puerto del León and El Pinar (Montes de Málaga) Talillas and El Cortijuelo (Villanueva del Trabuco) It's the first time he has visited the beach and that rhythmic coming and going of the salt-water waves puzzles him There are many dog-related stories on the dog beach where the Totalán stream meets the sea albeit with no fresh water as it is bone dry One such curiosity of this beach is that it is located right on the border between two municipalities As for the dogs, many breeds can be spotted here From a Maltese bichon that doesn't like being near the water to a labrador that pushes its owner to throw the ball into the sea run into the waves as soon as their owner lets them off the leash Years ago it was decided that this dry riverbed which separates or unites - depending on how you look at it - the Malaga district of La Araña and La Cala del Moral in Rincón de la Victoria Canines also have the right to bathe on the beach some owners prefer to take their dogs there later in the evening to avoid burnt paw-pads holes dug everywhere in the sand and a lot of mad zoomies are part of the daily scene at this dog beach which cannot brag about being the best in the province but at least it's a well-defined space for dogs If its sand has little resemblance to the nicer sand on other beaches in La Axarquía from the shoreline heading into the shallow waters it doesn't get any better It's a real rocky area that many of these furry friends of ours can manage to avoid by letting themselves float on the water although there is a sign nearby reminding you that this is not a beach classified as a bathing area it's a good way to avoid possible complaints from the public Just as dogs are not allowed to bathe or even stay under the beach brollies on much of Malaga's coastline it's good to see a little exclusivity for our four-legged friends however uncomfortable this beach may be for us On the signage the beach is apparently open to all pets ferrets or reptiles have been spotted here Most dog beaches are uncomfortable stretches of poor quality sand or worse There is no municipality on a stretch of coastline like the one in Malaga province that has decided to designate a Blue Flag or Q for Quality beach when it is solely a beach for dogs there are many curiosities at the mouth of this dry riverbed called Totalán that are not seen on other beaches in Andalucía the more astute humans take advantage of the two bridges that cross the dried-up stream to find a shady spot to park up all day long either for themselves or for their vehicles some of those cars end up under a layer of dust Those who prefer to park on the tarmac area have a labyrinth of dead-end streets nearby to negotiate Every summer's day there are dozens of reversing manoeuvres happening Sometimes there are two-way roads with one way occupied by drivers who There is a pedestrian walkway that also catches the eye as it is part of some major hiking trails There are signs for the Senda Litoral and the Gran Senda de Málaga reminding us that this is part of an itinerary that links Malaga city with Rincón de la Victoria this footbridge is a pedestrianised border-crossing where hardly anyone gives any importance to the fact that it is the official boundary between two municipalities in the first year of the Covid-19 pandemic when that pathway over Totalán had its own special significance It was a time when the public had restricted mobility between municipalities did not think about the possibility of being fined by the Local or National Police for hopping over the border Right next to the bridge there is an area for caravans which is the perfect place for many tourists with dogs to set up camp A dog beach and only a few metres away the districts of La Cala del Moral and La Araña Between this caravan area and the road is a house that stoically remains surrounded by the traffic and noise from the main road It is right next to what was once known as the 'Curva de la Muerte' (Curve of Death) due to the high accident rate on this stretch of road For more than two decades the homeowner has been complaining about vehicles driving onto her property "My friends don't want to come here anymore for fear of accidents," she said the motorway was opened to relieve the traffic between La Araña and La Cala del Moral for it to become saturated again at certain peak times the dogs don't worry about the traffic as they frolic on their beach A night market on the promenade of Rincón de la Victoria on the eastern stretch of the Costa del Sol begins on Saturday 15 June signalling the start of summer in the coastal town The market will be on every day from 8pm to midnight and will run until 15 September The town hall has announced that there will be 48 stalls giving “an opportunity for more small business owners and traders to carry out this activity offering the visiting public a greater variety of crafts and articles,” said Rincón councillor Lola Ramos The 48 stalls will be selling a variety of craft products as well as a stall run by the Rincón Contigo association which will be selling books and soft toys to raise money to support and help families in the town Rincón de la Victoria town hall on the eastern stretch of the Costa del Sol has published a municipal bylaw which includes a series of measures for the use of its beaches this summer The announcement coincided with the start of its summer lifeguard service on Saturday 1 June The councillor for beaches Sergio Díaz explained a document has been drawn up containing the rules and recommendations for the correct functioning of all the services.” This year for the first time the installation of tents for private use and to provide shade will be allowed up to a maximum size of 3x3 metres at a distance of at least 15 metres from the shore at high tide the councillor recalled
