Puerto Rico entered the plea in Franklin County Superior Court in the presence of his attorney
A charge of felony gross sexual assault was dismissed as part of a plea agreement
Rocafort-Stravecky was arrested following an investigation into a woman’s complaint that she was sexually assaulted during a party of camp counselors and others at a counselor’s home in Rangeley on July 18
Rocafort-Stravecky and the woman were acquainted
He was working as a counselor at Camp Kawanhee for Boys in Weld at the time of the assault
The woman said she was impaired and could not have given consent to have sex
while Rocafort-Stravecky said it was consensual
Deputy District Attorney James Andrews said there was a great deal of drinking at the party
and the case was not simply a matter of “he said
she said.” There was a large number of witnesses there and several for both sides spoke to police during the investigation
There was a significant disagreement of the facts about what happened
the defense feels strongly it would prevail
but the small risk of conviction made the agreement a reasonable one
“Peter always adamantly denied” that he ever engaged in nonconsensual sex
The woman’s 13-page statement to the court was not read aloud
but Justice Joyce Wheeler told Rocafort- Stravecky
“I think what she wants you to hear” is about giving a woman a voice to be heard on when sex occurs and that he needed to listen to what women say
Sentencing was delayed for 18 months while Rocafort-Stravecky completes tasks that include participation in alcohol and sexual assault prevention programs
His $3,000 bail will go to Camp Kawanhee for Boys to train camp counselors on preventing binge drinking and sexual abuse
If Rocafort-Stravecky completes the agreement
A conviction for assault is punishable by up to 364 days in jail and a fine of up to $2,000

At the Net with Katerina Rocafort7/31/2017 2:44:00 PM | Volleyball
Throughout the offseason and heading into the 2017 season, the Wolverines will give fans an inside look at the Michigan volleyball program with the At the Net blogs. This week, rising sophomore Katerina Rocafort discusses her spring classes
I've got to admit that cooking my own food is a bittersweet thing to do ..
especially when pasta is the best thing Sav and I know how to cook
I guess as the year goes on we'll figure it out along the way
The time during spring term was never dull
Although there weren't as many people on campus like during the school year
most of my teammates stayed and we had a lot of fun
I must admit it was a relief to feel the warm weather again
although at one point I thought it was never going to happen since I was wearing a parka until the end of May
my winters have always been 68 degrees or above
it was time I was reunited with my family and since my younger sister was playing in the AAU in Orlando
I flew to meet up with them right after my last final and went to Islands of Adventure the next day
I found out that my dad was taking my brother to Germany and then Prague and somehow I managed to get "invited" to the trip as well
it was time to finally return home to that hot and humid 90-degree weather
but it just means a lot of beach and pool time
hanging out with old friends and going to the beach
it was time for the one-week family trip to the BVI's (British Virgin Islands)
We went to "Xmas in July," which is like a festival in Savannah Bay
After that we went around to a couple of islands like Anegada or Jost Van Dyke
This summer was really fun and full of surprises
but I can't wait to start this new upcoming year with the three new freshmen and the rest of my teammates
I am really excited to go back and play with my friends and start a new season
and I am more than ready to start wearing the Maize and Blue again

Scott Lobdell and Kenneth Rocafort to Join SUPERMAN Starting with Issue Zero
SUPERMAN will debut a new creative team starting with issue #0 in September
Scott Lobdell joins the book as writer with Kenneth Rocafort on board for artwork and covers
Lobdell had this to say about the new project
“Like every other writer in the world who has ever heard of SUPERMAN
I've spent a good part of my life wishing for the opportunity to write the ongoing adventures of the Man of Steel
"Grant Morrison has left me a lot of new bright and shiny new toys on the table through ACTION COMICS -- and you better believe I'm going to take every one of the around the block for a ride
and thank you DC for trusting me with the super hero who started it all
"I wrote a proposal for the series and I remember more than once thinking ‘No way they'll let me do this -- not in a million years!’ But then I'd look up at the Post-It® over my computer that says 'Scott
Go Bold Or Go Home!' and I just kept writing
For weeks after I turned it in I kept waiting for the phone call that said 'Uh
Lobdell!' Instead I got a text that said simply said 'Congratulations.' "So strap yourselves in
because we're going up up upper and awayer than we've ever gone before
I am acutely aware that I have some very big shoes to fill
From Jerry and Joe right on through George and Dan and Kieth and all the other writers and artists over the run of the series
I probably would not have made the leap to the world's most recognizable hero if I didn't do it with Kenneth Rocafort at my side
Anyone who has been following his artwork on RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS knows he has an imagination unlike many others
He can handle the heavy lifting that comes with world building on one page
and pull a tear out of you through an intense emotional moment on the next.”
“Comic books have had a long list of wonderful characters..
And to be part of the creation team is an honor a real privilege
I'm very grateful to DC Comics for trusting the opportunity
"I'm glad to have the responsibility to visually represent the unique way that Scott guide stories
unexpected and mind blowing events that make me an eternal fan
I invite all-time comics readers to continue this journey with us in Superman."

Dan Didio has had to cancel one of his own comic books
It happened with Infinity Man and the Forever People in 2014
which will see its final issue published in February 2019
Created with Kenneth Rocafort as part of the artist-first New Age Of Heroes line
Sideways was an attempt to create a Spider-Man-like series for the DC Universe
It is also exceptional in that the creator lead artist stayed with the book through it's run
Jim Lee didn't even make it through an issue of Immortal Men…
The character also had a boost with a Sideways Annual co-written by Grant Morrison
as well as a journey to the Dark Matter Universe of Metal
from whence the character's powers were born
Derek is a teenager with the ability to open up rifts that allow him to travel from place to place
knows about this and even made his costume for him
He goes to high school like a normal teenager
not knowing that Derek is a new powered and masked individual named Sideways
His first instinct wasn't to just become a superhero; he made a YouTube channel with which to exhibit his abilities in the hopes of getting subscribers
That last bit does feel like Sideways is trying a little too hard to appeal to the youths
that's definitely true because I'm not sure I am up for another comic about a teenaged metahuman who just trips into heroics
and that's why it really didn't work for me
bear in mind that this first arc may pose an origin story for Sideways becoming a more devoted hero
and a decent direction to take the character
it leaves Sideways #1 feeling aimless and a little dull
It does get a bit more interesting towards the end
but it cuts itself off before really grabbing me
and his work is definitely the highlight of the comic
His linework and detailing has always been distinctive and eye-catching
It brings a unique atmosphere to the comic
which admittedly may not be the best fit for the tone and personality of Sideways
and I'm always glad to see him getting work
It's definitely geared towards a teenage audience
but gives the impression that this will be a more meandering book that focuses around the personal and social life
but Derek unfortunately doesn't bring enough to the table to keep it interesting
but it feels a little wasted on this comic
is the location of this house whose distinguishing feature is a T-shaped roof
For this work the Valencia practice of Fran Silvestre and Andrés Alfaro Hofmann has been named the 2020 winner in the Architecture section of the German Design Awards
The project seeks to obtain the best vistas of the surroundings with a passable roof that serves as a viewing deck
The two levels of the 350-square-meter residence adapt to the sloping terrain
with a half-buried floor containing a living room

a state appeals panel said that harvested marijuana being kept in canisters to dry does constitute usable marijuana
said she intended to make hash oil out of drying - and thus not usable - marijuana
Police seized 5.6 pounds of marijuana that was being dried during a Sept
She argued before a Kent County Circuit Court judge that the seized marijuana
which exceeded the amount she could possess for her patients
was not usable because it was in the drying process
The state Legislature says "usable" marijuana includes "the dried leaves and flowers of the plant" but not seeds
Caregivers are allowed to possess up to 2.5 ounces of marijuana per patient
She would be allowed to possess 15 ounces for five patients and herself
"There is no dispute that defendant was a caregiver under the (Michigan Medical Marihuana Act) and that she was registered to provide marijuana to five patients," the appeals panel said
"The trial court stated that the sole issue with regard to defendant's motion (to dismiss) was the fact that she had 5.6 pounds of harvested marijuana
exceeded the amount of usable marijuana defendant was allowed to have ..
testified that marijuana usually takes a week to 10 days to dry after harvesting
but the bulk of drying would have occurred at the beginning of the process
Rocafort's marijuana had been drying for four days when police raided her house
The trial judge determined that the medical marijuana law could not refer to completely dried marijuana because dried marijuana contains about 10 percent moisture
although the seized marijuana may not have been dried to the ideal extent
it was 'largely dried,' and therefore denied defendant's motions," justices Jane Markey and William Murphy wrote
They found the judge did not "clearly err."
Judge Cynthia Stephens disagreed with the majority's conclusion that the marijuana was usable under the medical marijuana law
"I would conclude that the marijuana that was in the 'drying process' or that which was 'pretty dry' or 'dry enough' or 'largely dried' did not constitute usable marihuana within the meaning of the statute and was therefore
insufficient evidence upon which to convict defendant," Stephens wrote in her dissent
She said the Legislature has differentiated between marijuana and usable marijuana
usable marihuana does not include 'all parts of the plant ..
preparation of the plant or its seeds or resin,'" she wrote
"The evidence did not establish that the 5.6 pounds of harvested marihuana seized from defendant's home in canisters was 'the dried leaves and flowers of the marihuana plant' but only that the marihuana was in the process of drying
I acknowledge the difficulty in determining 'dried marihuana' when even so-called completely dried marihuana contains 10 percent moisture but I would also call up on the Legislature for clarification."
Rocafort was placed on probation for two years but discharged early
She had placed harvested marijuana into containers to dry on Sept
She told them that she was a registered caregiver and patient before police seized the marijuana in the containers

US imports of goods from Vietnam have soared 51.6 per cent
Taiwan 30 per cent and Mexico 12.7 per cent
according to South China Morning Post calculations based on US Census Bureau data for November
Some of our readers have suggested that illegal transshipment of Chinese goods through these countries may account for a significant part of their export gains. (NB, when transshipment is legal, the goods are classified by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) based on the country of origin)
this would suggest the trend we are observing is a superficial one
It would also suggest that many exporters who are “relocating” are in fact only placing a fig leaf over their China production
hopeful that it will soon be —China— business as usual and/or unable to find an alternative to “just right” China
Meanwhile, the imposition of Section 301 tariffs by the Trump Administration has dramatically increased the number of Chinese products subject to U.S. tariffs. As a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette article on Christmas lights (those made in China now subject to 25% tariffs) explains
“Chinese suppliers are finding ways to ditch the ‘Made in China’ label to evade penalties
using neighboring countries like Vietnam to transport goods across borders
relabel them and ship them to the U.S.”
Lying about a product’s country of origin can subject you to 20 years in federal prison
Meanwhile, the risks of detection are considerable. The folks at CBP are obviously aware of the games people play
and have “become expert at discovering such evasions”
They inspect shipments from Vietnam and the like conscious of the fact that right now there are many Chinese exporters and U.S
importers trying to pull the wool over their eyes
It’s not as simple as simply stitching on a “Made in Vietnam” label; certainly not if CBP decides to probe
which could potentially be used to corroborate country of origin claims
Authorities in exporting countries are also on the lookout
as the Post-Gazette article on Christmas lights illustrates:
head of customs control and supervision in the General Department of Vietnam Customs
curbing the flow of illegal goods is a struggle
officials had uncovered about 14 significant cases of exports with fake labels this year
‘We’ve been working with the ministry of planning and investment in scanning thoroughly FDI from China and Hong Kong,’ he said in a November interview in Hanoi
Chinese foreign direct investment into Vietnam grew by triple digits in 2019
Tuan said they’ve been looking at the investment value — and especially the scale of factories and technology use — to determine whether investors aim to ‘just set up a place to assemble all the parts they brought from China.’
They also check whether the planned products are subject to U.S
a clue that investors may be trying to evade the penalties
And this provides a nice segue to the final point
affected companies themselves are also on the lookout for those breaking the rules
And we know this because we have represented such spurned competitors in the past—and represent them right now
if you know of any illegal transshipping going on out there
let us know so we can all profit together from that
without doubt the illegal transshipment of Chinese goods is a reality
transshipment is far from being a simple trick that magically makes tariffs disappear
It’s not as easy to conceal as some would think
and the risks associated with getting caught are grave
Massive fines grave (see the $62.5 million Univar paid
serious importers are wisely choosing to steer clear of such practices

When I launched Ninja Boy 2 on Kickstarter two weeks ago
over the years NINJA BOY fans have proven to be some of the most loyal and excited readers a guy could ask for… but anyone who has ever started a Kickstarter will admit they're a little nervous
But this is the first major launch from Overground Comics and I wanted to make a good first impression
Turns out I had nothing to worry about. We're not even halfway through the funding period and we've already surpassed out first goal! If you haven't checked it out yet, please do
And if you have already — go back and check out the first of our stretch goals
Well I got 8 (and counting) of the hottest artists in the business to provide alternate covers

Jessie is taken away from the survivors by Omen
Bloodshot tries to make peace with Magic over his absence with "Daddy." Magic is furious
but the two soon bond over their mutual fear for their infant daughter
but Ninja-K has an out-there possible solution
The dual-story advancement is doing little to justify itself in this issue
and it has been one of the weaker aspects of Bloodshot Salvation for sure
Bloodshot Salvation #6 is a solidly emotional tale
Ray and Magic's confrontation over his recent actions is a compelling scene
While their interpersonal problems are far from solved
they do have a touching moment in worrying for Jessie
even if it feels like Ray has just gotten away with his stupid actions in taking revenge for someone who had effectively moved on from her trauma
as he does make some decisions for Magic later on in the story
The question becomes whether or not Bloodshot Salvation will decide that Ray is doing the right thing
or if it will justly "punish him" for his arrogance and control-freakishness
That remains to be seen and will determine a lot of how this comic is perceived in retrospect
It's cool seeing Ninja-K and the other hero here
Valiant has become quite adept at making this feel like an interconnected universe
He doesn't do a lot for this tale beyond pulling the plot forward and being smug
Renato Guedes stands out as the all-star this issue
His highly detailed and hyper-realistic artwork is incredible
It is some of the most realistic work I've seen in some time with the exception of someone like Alex Ross
There is a fascination with extreme-close-up panels which feel inorganic (this could be a matter of scripting
The color is especially well-balanced and graded very well
Bloodshot Salvation #6 is another solid issue in the series
It's fairly slow-moving and clearly trying to set up for the hyped-up next issue (oh
the emotional weight of it all as well as the phenomenal art make this an enjoyable read
RANGELEY (Sun Journal) -- A San Juan
man has been accused of sexually assaulting a woman during a gathering early Wednesday at a Rangeley residence
was arrested Saturday on a felony charge of gross sexual assault
A conviction on the charge carries maximum penalties of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine
The alleged victim went to the Franklin County Regional Communications Center in Farmington on Friday
where she told dispatchers she wanted to file a complaint of sexual assault
accompanied by an advocate from the Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Services
went to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington for an examination
Rocafort Stravecky and the woman were acquainted
and alcohol and marijuana were at the gathering
The alleged victim claimed she was impaired and could not have given consent to have sex
while Rocafort Stravecky claims it was consensual
who was being held Monday at the Franklin County Detention Center in Farmington
was expected to appear before a judge later in the day
How do you do an Ultimates series post-Secret Wars, without the Ultimate Universe? The original series by Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch was supposed to be a reimagining of the Avengers concept for the 21st century
and had significant influence on the Marvel Cinematic Universe
After the events of Secret Wars, we no longer have an Ultimate Universe, but we do have a new Ultimates comic by Al Ewing, Kenneth Rocafort and Dan Brown
they’re re-imagining and redefining what a superhero team can be in the twenty-first century
just like the original volume did fourteen years ago
In many ways, The Ultimates feels influenced by the early 2000s work of Warren Ellis, especially Planetary, which was published through Wildstorm, with art by John Cassaday
Planetary’s remit was about keeping the world weird
and the series celebrated the utter bizarreness of ongoing superhero fiction
The Ultimates isn’t about weird science and voyages to new dimensions as much as it is about the relationship between individuals and how important our humanity is
The mission statement for the book came in an eight page story in Avengers #0
where America Chavez fixed a hole in the universe with dancing --- or as the title of the story refers to it as
Al Ewing has been sowing the seeds for a book like The Ultimates for a couple of years now, dating back to the earliest issues of his Mighty Avengers run, which brought another Ellis concept, Nextwave
officially into continuity after a decade of uncertainty
Ewing reinvented Monica Rambeau as Spectrum
more vital than ever in a Reed Richards-less world
Adam plays a similar role to Elijah Snow in Planetary
as a brilliant man who has experienced roughly a century’s worth of how weird superhuman universes can be
although he seems to be handling it slightly better than Snow at the start of Planetary
we’re reminded how human and occasionally petty Adam can still be
and it reveals a side of him that his teammates
Ewing explores two sides of what you could call a “Doctor Manhattan” archetype
as both men were gifted with perhaps too much power
and they took very different paths from there
Anti-Man viewed humanity as being as small to him as ants
while it was Adam’s family that kept him grounded --- but is he a hypocrite for offering redemption to Galactus
Kenneth Rocafort’s art gels with the weirdness of Ewing’s stories, and it’s no surprise that his last Marvel work was a dimension hopping Mojoworld story written by Jonathan Hickman
Rocafort’s panels seem to exist outside traditional space and time
overlapping and criss-crossing while maintaining the crucial narrative flow from one to the next
It feels like superhero comics have been waiting on the next big existential epic for at least a couple of years, and now we have several worthy contenders to the throne, including The Omega Men, Midnighter, and even The Ultimates' sister book, New Avengers (also by Ewing)
With The Ultimates, the bar has already been set so high for what its team can accomplish that it’s going to be very exciting to see where Ewing and Rocafort can go from here

In many ways, The Ultimates feels influenced by the early 2000s work of Warren Ellis, especially Planetary, which was published through Wildstorm, with art by John Cassaday
Al Ewing has been sowing the seeds for a book like The Ultimates for a couple of years now, dating back to the earliest issues of his Mighty Avengers run, which brought another Ellis concept, Nextwave
Kenneth Rocafort’s art gels with the weirdness of Ewing’s stories, and it’s no surprise that his last Marvel work was a dimension hopping Mojoworld story written by Jonathan Hickman
It feels like superhero comics have been waiting on the next big existential epic for at least a couple of years, and now we have several worthy contenders to the throne, including The Omega Men, Midnighter, and even The Ultimates' sister book, New Avengers (also by Ewing)

Ninja-K watches over Magic while Bloodshot
and Bloodhound try to survive the Deadside
After Ray and Hound fight off a horde of demons
Shadowman arrives and offers a solution to Bloodshot's woes
this issue of Bloodshot Salvation actually has art
That's already a vast improvement over the previous issue
Bloodshot Salvation #8 is a fairly fun issue of the series
The story doesn't move particularly far until the final pages
The first chunk is mostly Ray and Hound fighting the demons of the Deadside
The action looks nice and has a decent flow to it
Shadowman has only a brief role to play in the book
The Baron Samedi portion is where the comic comes to life; sequencing and the flow of time are played with
The deal-making between Ray and Samedi doesn't hit the cliched beats of such as scene
and the ending twist takes a turn one may not expect
The real deal-maker of this issue is the incredible art of Renato Guedes
and the comic benefits greatly from the unique stylism and fantastic texturing
The book looks not unlike the work of the great Adi Granov
and the color art adds a completely otherworldly vibe to the visuals
Bloodshot Salvation #8 is a fun read that pits our hero against demons and into the paths of Shadowman and Baron Samedi
but the art is so incredible that the comic is something that you need to take a look

Magic is trying to find out if Ray is still alive through a bizarre medium ritual
Ray is being held by Magic's Christian extremist father
and he is trying to torture the nanites out of Bloodshot's system
Ray and Magic's daughter is looking to be in a bad spot and may yet die due to the illness
the Scarred Man is still looking to round up the nanite-enhanced operatives
Bloodshot Salvation #5 is a heavy yet definitive improvement on the more cliched previous issue
Despite how impulsive and reckless the decision was
you can easily understand why Ray went after the crazy bastard who tormented Magic in her childhood
It's also very easy to empathize with Magic's horror in learning that her daughter is very ill and looks like Bloodshot
The highlight of the issue is—not to give too much away—when Ray finally gets out of his chains with the help of an old friend
What follows is a bunch of very bad things happening to very bad people
It's the kind of "hell yeah" comic book moment that could have DMX's "X Gonna Give it to Ya" playing in the background at full blast
Both Lewis LaRosa and Mico Suayan turn in some phenomenal work here
He gives a lot of expression to the characters and plays with lighting very well
Suayan takes care of the bulk of the comic
Both artists perform some astonishing work here
Diego Rodriguez plays off both styles with some great color art
and the resulting comic is absolutely gorgeous
Bloodshot Salvation #5 is a very engaging read
Jeff Lemire's story continues to be enthralling
and Rodriguez turn in some beautiful artwork
Before arriving at the current Black Panther series
we are going to take a look back at a couple of teams he enjoyed before the newest series under Ta-Nehisi Coates
I had actually become more interested in T'Challa after reading about him in Al Ewing's Ultimates and Ultimates Squared
Jonathan Hickman's New Avengers also told a T'Challa-focused tale and was actually another really good series
One thing about Avengers titles over the past decade or so is that Brian Michael Bendis never seemed particularly interested in the character of T'Challa
only really bringing him in to AvX due to his relationship with Storm and the schism that could be played with therein
Unless you were paying attention to Black Panther specifically
it was hard to get a whole lot of T'Challa in your comics
Hickman's New Avengers brought him back into the Avengers family of titles
and I personally didn't even read much of Hickman's New Avengers until more recently
I was initially bitter about it being the polar opposite of Bendis's small-scoped pseudo-street level New Avengers lineup
Ewing's Ultimates were what began to truly sell me on T'Challa
I was at first more interested in the team due to Captain Marvel
Spectrum and how enamored I was with Ewing's Mighty Avengers during its run
Talking Hickman's New Avengers will actually segue very well into Ultimates and Coates's Black Panther
Bear in mind this discussion will be primarily plot-focused and less evaluative
though take my word for it that these runs of New Avengers and Ultimates are both quite good
New Avengers brought together Marvel's Illuminati once more to answer a major threat which T'Challa detected in Wakanda
It was a clandestine team of leaders consisting of Iron Man
They initially invited Black Panther to join the team
The Illuminati was disbanded after their existence became known to the Avengers and the Fantastic Four and Captain America promised to shut them down should they continue to operate
This spun out of the Hood using the Illuminati to gather the Infinity Gems
Black Panther gathered the team once more after discovering the Incursions
a phenomenon in which Earths from across the multiverse were colliding and destroy themselves and the universes they inhabited
The lineup remained the same with the exception of Beast replacing the deceased Professor X and the involvement of Captain America
It quickly became clear that the reformed Illuminati would have to consider some terrible things in the name of survival
This became clear after the discovery of a mysterious and powerful woman called the Black Swan explained what was happening to the team
they would have to destroy another Earth like their own
After Captain America's reticence and moral hangups became a problem
Strange mind-wiped and expelled him from the group
T'Challa and Namor still held a lot of animosity towards one another due to Sub-Mariner's attack on Wakanda from Avengers vs
Wakanda and Atlantis fought a war that would destroy both nations
the team was on Earth to fight off Thanos's invasion during Infinity while the rest of the Avengers were of-world fighting the Builders
Bruce Banner (at the time possessed by the more heartless Omega Hulk personality)
and Yellowjacket would work with the group
and even Thanos himself were allies to the Illuminati
This became a necessity after the involvement of the godlike Beyonders was revealed
Steve Rogers would later rediscover the Illuminati's existence and the mental manipulation of Doctor Strange
and he would take the Avengers to war with the group
but Doctor Doom salvaged parts of various Earths to become Battleworld after the end of all things came to pass
Black Panther was on the life raft that escaped the end too
and he played an integral role in overthrowing Doom with the help of the Infinity Gauntlet
The intention of the team was to solve the biggest universe-shattering problems before they make it to Earth at all
The goal was to also solve them as peacefully as possible
The team would face some struggles after the events of Civil War II
Captain Marvel and Black Panther became at odds but still cooperated
The Ultimates would face their greatest struggle upon discovering that Eternity
the being that represents all that is in the multiverse
we will be moving on to the current Panther series
Marvel to release Roger Langridge ‘The Muppets Omnibus’ hardcover
The History of Green Arrow Part 3 – Detectives and Dark Knights (1980 – 1986)
First created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen in the pages of Omega Men #3 (June 1983), the character was recently given an overhaul in Rob Liefeld’s run of Deathstroke, but the publisher is now choosing to retcon their reboot with a new design by Kenneth Rocafort. He will appear as part of the “Forever Evil” villains month in Justice League #23.2
In his column “What’s New in the New 52?“, Editor-in-chief Bob Harras explains
“The Lobo you’ve seen so far in the New 52 is not who you think he is
Lobo is on a quest to kill the man who has taken his name.”
For the often polarising Rob Liefeld, who has an abundance of fans and detractors of his art style, this is the second redesign of one of his New 52 characters. As CBR points out
his versions of Cheshire (who was set to appear in the now cancelled Grifter) has also received another redesign and is set to appear in upcoming New 52 books
Liefeld made no secrets of his decision to abruptly leave DC Comics in August 2012
citing problems with the corporate culture of a creative company owned by a large media conglomerate
Justice League #23.2 will arrive on 11 September 2013 in print and digital from DC Comics

Work on the Barcelona Superblock Plan is due to start in the district in June 2022
The Barcelona Superblock Plan is transforming the model for public streets to create a network of new spaces where people can walk and spend time in the city of the 21st century
The plan will create a new environmental infrastructure to foster life in city streets
The new Barcelona Superblock model scales up the initiative to transform L’Eixample following the superblock experiences in neighbourhoods such as Sant Antoni
This is the district with the fewest public spaces for people to spend time in and with the most pollution
caused by the high volume of private vehicles and the lack of green spaces
The final projects to bring about this profound change in the spatial layout of public spaces in L’Eixample correspond to four large squares and four green streets
An innovative street model for the 21st century
As a result of collaborative design by the four winning teams from the public tender process and the Barcelona Superblock Technical Office
a new street model has been conceived as the basis for green streets to be created
The model includes common criteria on uses
The new model will be used for all transformation projects in the city
starting with the four in the streets of Rocafort
the street is designed to foster everyday life in public space and stimulate local commerce
reducing noise and pollution at the same time
31 smaller squares are to be created at junctions with intersecting streets
offering space for people to spend time in and children’s play areas
The project will capitalise on the characteristic chamfered junctions between Carrer del Consell de Cent and the streets of Rocafort
Each square will have 2,000 square metres of space and a unique design
but essentially there are two models for squares: those at C/ Comte Borrell and C/ Girona will be civic spaces where community activities can take place
while those at C/ Rocafort and C/ Enric Granados will feature gardens and meeting areas
The eight final projects which get the major transformation of L’Eixample under way have a budget of 52.3 million euros
A plan to tackle the challenges of the future
The four streets and squares at the first step in a major transformation to L’Eixample
The plan should see 21 green streets and 21 large squares created by 2030
This is one of the main steps in the Barcelona Superblock Plan
which turns the concept of public space on its head and breaks away from the model adopted in recent decades
It also maintains the spirit of Cerdà’s street plan
with values linked to health and the democratisation of public space
adapting it to the needs of today and tomorrow
The goal of the Barcelona Superblock Plan is to achieve a fairer
Paul Miranda
The first page replays a scene from the relaunch issue where Bunker threatens a homophobe
What makes me cringe is the cheesy line he delivers
Not only does he shoot himself in the foot
he inadvertently has made things worse for the general super-hero population
and soul-searching are the main ingredients
Miguel Barragan (Bunker) is watching that footage on his tablet while Beast Boy in a cute baby elephant form tells him to lighten up
I will say that I like the camaraderie between these two B’s
I didn’t read the previous volume of TT therefore I know not how recent a development this is
Miguel has an immense chip on his shoulder (or should I say block?) and lashes out at his new buddy by putting a psionic block in Beast Boy’s ear
It’s the beginning of a beautiful friendship
Cut to the next scene — one of the lackeys from last issue is recuperating at Ryker’s Island in the Hospital
I especially like Red Robin’s entrance on page 5
After uttering “Finally they’re gone
you see him in a casual vampire-bat pose hanging upside down ready to interrogate said lackey
the session is cut short when the machinery mysteriously malfunctions thus killing the dupe
I highly doubt Red Robin had anything to do with it but after attempting to utter a threat
Yet another disposable pawn cast aside by the unknown power players
Ordinary citizen Theresa Cicero clearly identified as “no known superhero identity” is making her way home after closing a convenient store
She’s on the phone assuring her mother that she’ll be safe and she’s only one block away from the subway train
Of course as soon as she hangs up she’s surrounded by four no-gooders
Looks like Cassandra Sandsmark has inspired a movement
Eight females show up and make mincemeat of the young punks
There’s a full page spread here spotlighting them
The ‘leader’ has a white face mask with stars on it
I can’t help but think that this look is inspired by Harley Quinn
One other ‘Wonder Girl’ seems similar to Scandal (from Secret Six)
The other two in the forefront remind me of other characters but I just can’t pinpoint who
the leader asks if she wants to be part of something
Theresa’s name and ‘status’ are repeated followed by ‘yet‘
This is the onset of a brand spanking (pun intended!) new super-heroine!
I cocked an eyebrow reading the next few pages
I was a bit stunned to see two major players now affiliated with S.T.A.R
Labs: Manchester Black (bad guy) and Josiah Power (good guy)
it’s safe to say that this is their first appearance in the New 52
I was wondering if Black had indeed turned a new leaf
I was proven ‘wrong’ and my suspicions were correct
Black already seems ruthless and downright cold when he remarks that the organization could weaponize the unknown assailant’s power from last issue
Beast Boy and Bunker race off to the rescue towards a burning S.T.A.R
I’ll suspend my disbelief like any other reasonable reader but how the heck can BB&B get to the downtown core in 30 seconds?!
Gar takes on eagle form which is feasible but Miguel has no super-speed as far as I know
The Big Bad from issue 1 is back and she’s pissed!
Aside from the obvious clichés of “citizens in peril”
there’s a neat twist — the anonymous woman is a robot!!
Bunker figures it out when he uses the same move on her as he did on Beast Boy
Kudos to Beast Boy’s newest ‘power’: spin doctor!
As soon as the danger disappears and the threat is eliminated
he sings Bunker’s praises to the media and the masses casting him in a redemptive light
Although Cassie (the one true Wonder Girl) doesn’t appear in this issue
she’s mentioned on the news and catches her mother’s attention
At least I’ll assume that’s who it is when the woman utters: “Oh
my baby girl…What have you gotten yourself into?”
The interlude with Raven is interesting in itself
She attends a local low-brow concert by the band Dark Mistress
Her name is mentioned by a fan when comparing her to the band
Raven seems to approve of this ‘cover group’
I like seeing Raven (no secret identity) unmasked
I’m not too fond of her New 52 look but here she looks like a ‘normal’ teenage girl
The so-called robot that Bunker took down is ‘alive’ and well and she has a designation: Algorithm
There’s been no mention of her before so she’s definitely new on the scene
Pulling the strings is none other than Manchester Black!
Labs on the map and the only way to do so is to have human casualties
A machine would have no problem in accomplishing that endeavour
Purposely planted puzzlement: who’s the old friend that Algorithm might run into
Why does Black have the Dark Mistress poster
Readers will have to wait two months since the next issue ties into Future’s End
Rocafort’s art appears to be a bit ‘different’
His style is still recognizable but not as bright or clear as when he illustrated SUPERMAN
Dan Brown’s colours give proper merit to the various characters’ costumes
Hill letters very well distinguishing between the Chirper ‘chirps’

DC Comics Rebirth and June 2017 Solicitations Spoilers follow
Formerly Marvel Comics exclusive artist Kenneth Rocafort may be returning to monthly DC Comics with Titans #12 in June 2017
Rocafort was a standout in the New 52 era of DC Comics with stints on Red Hood and the Outlaws
It is not known whether Kenneth Rocafort will be on Titans monthly
Written by DAN ABNETT • Art and cover by KENNETH ROCAFORT • Variant cover by DAN MORA
After the stunning events of “The Lazarus Contract” rocked the Titans to their core and called into question the team’s leadership
Omen discovers the shocking truth about their future—that one of their very own is destined to betray them…and it could be anyone
Grey Scherl
Main characters killing with quips and no remorse
over sexualized females for the sake of it
but anyone who came up during then has some memory that can be attributed to that era
where the guys were all built like super athletes
and every woman is an impossibly proportioned super model
Some people have fond memories of that era
and others still refer to it with venom in their voice
So is it really a good thing to remember the 90’s
Let’s start with the flaws that the issue displays with the 90s formula
which also happens to be the most controversial part of the issue
and while her history is seemingly unaltered
there has been a few somewhat major changes to her
Tamaraneans know humans by sight and smell
but are plagued with short attention spans
Roy and Jason make it clear that a team that can be assumed to be the New Teen Titans existed
and the fact that she’s openly sleeping with Jason
the “slut” card is being played heavily
She’s been around the block (though usually winding up with Dick Grayson)
she’s admitted for decades that sex and love on her world are completely different concepts (echoed here by her telling Roy that love has nothing to do with sex)
and has never had an extended run wearing an outfit other than a space bikini
but she was a slutty character a few months ago when she was getting pissed at Captain Comet for not understanding that she wanted a one night stand
The book opens up with Red Hood and Starfire breaking Roy out of an execution in a Quaraci jail
but it’s safe to say that he was still a sidekick
and still a member of a group composed of the New Teen Titans (though swap out Donna and Raven for Dustin and Lilith…whoever Dustin is)
but it’s curious whether or not he was a ‘kid sidekick’ as he doesn’t seem too much younger than Ollie
just someone who does dumb things…which is how he wound up in jail in the first place
He’s also a bit of a badass with a bow who doesn’t shoot to wound
I’ll admit that the fight was a pretty cool scene
so no amount of slutty Tamaraneans or former junky archers can really take away from the fact that his presence is what is going to push this book
he’s the one with his name in the title
So this book is going to sink or swim based really on him and him alone
Thankfully he’s actually a pretty interesting lead for this title; he’s a smarmy jackass who does some pretty cool things
The plot going forward seems to be bringing in new creations
a character called Essence shows up to talk to Jason about something called the All Caste and how The Untitled is destroying them
and that someone Jason was once close to in some way is now dead or about to die looking like a hobo
It’s ominous and vague and to be honest
this is what’s making me want to come back next month
Jason dealing with something crazy and possibly mystical in the Himalayas
I don’t mean for Slutty Starfire and her choice of micro bikinis both in and out of battle
The action is gritty and bloody and full of detail
and it makes the opening pages of the issue look phenomenal
I was sold on his art before Kori even popped up
but then all of the sudden we’ve got this cool action and there’s some T&A contrasting against it perfectly
you’ve got Jason Todd back to his black hair and while he does have the resemblance to Dick Grayson
there’s enough unique about his appearance to make him stand out
and I’m wondering how often we will be seeing her
it’s that the book has two overly chiseled male leads and a sex goddess alien
The characters don’t all need to be so ridiculously built
The issue is a mix; there’s some cool stuff going on with Jason
but Roy only has the surface scraped in his character
The opening jail break of the issue is pretty cool
Jason’s part of the book is intriguing and sets up the plot for the first arc
but Roy and Kori just have an awkward discussion followed by sex and controversy
it felt like something I would have picked up from Image in the 90’s
and while I know a lot of people might harp on that not being a good thing
It’s going to get me back for the second issue
