Paul McBride’s week didn’t quite pan out the way he’d have liked after ending day one tied for the lead
but the Dubliner closed out with a one-under 69 in tough conditions to post his best finish of the year on the Alps Tour at Roquetas de Mar in eastern Andalucía
three and eight were offset by bogeys at four and nine as he covered the opening nine in one-under
and then two birdies and two bogeys on the back side saw him climb several spots on the leaderboard and ensure that it’s a week that he can take great confidence from
It was a disappointing end to the week for Robert Moran and Marc Boucher
who shot rounds of +3 and +2 respectively to finish alongside one another at +2 and tied for 29th
American Brandon Kewalramani held onto the lead that he’d secured after 36 holes to take his maiden Alps Tour win in just his third start
Taking a three-stroke lead into the final round
Kewalramani traded two birdies with two bogeys on the front side and then reeled off eight pars and a birdie on the closing nine to finish three shots clear of Frenchman Benjamin Kedochim
Former North of Ireland Championship winner and one-time Wexford resident Aaron Edwards-Hill posted a closing two-under 68 to climb into a three-way tie for third

Spain is being hit with another ‘DANA’ storm which is already causing torrential rain and flooding in the southern Andalusian province of Almería
Following the forecast from Spain’s state meteorological agency (Aemet) on Monday
pre-emergency phase protocols were activated due to the risk of flooding in the province
which was then changed to orange in the evening

At the Dalías-Los Hornillos weather station
74.1mm of rain had been recorded by 5.15 pm
downpours which lasted only a few minutes according to the Meteorological Association of Southeast Spain (Ametse) and caused a deluge given the sheer volume of water
Almería city and Balanegra were the municipalities most affected on Monday

The downpours caused flooding on roads and in buildings
Spanish media reports that large pools of water have accumulated on major roads such as the A-7
and flooded properties in the Poniente area of the province

Severe rain in the Balanegra area has caused the outflows of the Los Infantes and Balanegra ravines to rise
causing several overflows in areas where the rivers converge
Nuria Rodríguez, mayor of Balanegra, told local newspaper Diario de Almería that “the council has activated the local emergency plan and the authorities have taken preventive measures to control access to the ravines and minimise the risk to the population”
“Maintenance work is already being carried out on the affected roads to restore traffic as soon as possible,” she added
Rain has also been particularly heavy in Vícar
According to Aemet forecasts for Almería
heavy rains will continue on Tuesday afternoon and evening
and then begin to slow from Thursday morning and early afternoon

Club Managing Director Mohamed El Assy and Sports Councilor of the Roquetas de Mar City Council José Juan Rubí endorsed it on the Stadium lawn and in front of the almost 14,000 supporters who attended the game

With just over 7,300 residents - more than half of them of foreign origin - Mojácar has been one of the most popular towns in the province for decades
Mojácar is 'brand Almeria' and outside the borders of Spain it is one of the best known towns in Andalucía
recognised as one of the most beautiful in the country
that it is included among the most touristically saturated of the Spanish geography
is the result of a study carried out by the holiday rental portal Holidu to discover the destinations in Spain with the highest number of tourists per inhabitant
Mojácar has a rate of 31.53 tourists per registered resident
This means that over the course of the year it can have more than 200,000 visitors
This places this locality in fifteenth position in the country
whose ranking is headed by Sant Llorenç des Cardassar
with a whopping 73.1 tourists per inhabitant
Using the results of the 2023 hotel occupancy survey produced by the national statistics institute (INE)
the report puts the number of visitors to Mojácar last year at 204,650
of which 37,517 were from abroad and 167,133 from Spain
"From large metropolises to small charming towns
they face the challenges of an overflowing tourism
exhausting resources and testing the patience of the locals and the capacity of their services," says the web portal on the motivation for this report
which allows "determining the most crowded cities of tourists" in Spain
the list drawn up and available on the company's website
offers the same data for a hundred Spanish tourist destinations
Among them are four municipalities in Almeria
Níjar and Almeria city are among the 100 most overcrowded places in the country
the figures are significantly different from those of Mojácar
you have to go down thirty places to find Roquetas de Mar
The analysis establishes that this municipality (the second highest in population in the province) has a tourist per capita rate of 5.5
more than half a million people stayed there
with 2.46 tourists per inhabitant and almost 79,000 visitors received last year
national tourism is predominant and quadruples international tourism
foreign visitors are equivalent to half the population of the Comarca of Nijar
the capital of Almería is in 85th place with an estimated saturation of 1.85 tourists per inhabitant
The situation in Almería is similar to that of capitals such as Vigo and Zaragoza
348,000 people stayed in the city last year
Tourist saturation in the capital is higher than in neighbouring Murcia or Cartagena and island destinations such as Santa Cruz de Tenerife
In comparison with the other Andalusian capitals
Almería is the least saturated and Granada the most
are outside the 100 destinations included in the list

A Place In The Sun fans were left worried for a presenter's safety after watching him brought to the brink of tears on Wednesday's episode
Ben Hillman sparked concern after the fans of the Channel 4 show watched him struggle to fulfil the criteria of house hunters Deb and Steve
The couple, who were both retiring, were looking for their forever home in Roquetas de Mar in Almeria Province, Spain
Despite putting his best foot forward and scoping out a variety of gorgeous homes
The soon-to-be retired Deb and the host of the show started out on the wrong foot after she cut the viewing of the first property short
The gorgeous home was up for sale for £150,000
but before Deb had even stepped foot through the front door she decided she didn't want to see any more because she disliked the area

Deb immediately told host Ben she didn't like the house as he sighed
She explained: 'There is not enough natural light in here
and I don't like the outside or the lounge.'
After two failed property viewings Ben admitted they hadn't got off to the best start and things only went downhill from there as the Steve and Deb rejected Ben's other four offers
Ben exclaimed: 'I am just going to go and have a little weep.'
Things began to look up after he showed the couple a fifth property
but she quickly changed her tune after seeing the red kitchen
In the end Deb and Steve decided they didn't like any of the houses on offer and Ben was left dejected
And fans took to social media to share their concern over the presenter after his disastrous episode

While one person joked: 'Im still quite new to #aplaceinthesun Has Ben ever turned violent?'
Ben's terrible day comes after host Jean Johansson suffered an awkward blow during Tuesday's episode when a couple cut viewing short then 'took the p***' with 'lowball' offer
Jean Johansson met with John and Maxine from Durham
who were on the hunt for a property in Cyprus with a budget of £150,000
But she was unable to find the pair a holiday home after a series of unsuccessful viewings and a rejected offer
First up was an apartment that was £10,000 below budget
but Maxine was left disappointed at the awful view
The fourth property was another 'deal breaker' for Maxine who didn't even stay to look at all the rooms
while a fifth priced at £172,000 was also not right
After some consideration Maxine and John decided to put an offer in for the third property
They offered £140,000 for the £157,000 townhouse
The seller then offered them a counteroffer of £155,000

'Still 13k under offer - can't have wanted it that much with a 150k budget
After seeing a visible air conditioning unit and water tank from the balcony
Next they went to look at a 'bargain' townhouse priced at £120,000 and a third that was listed slightly over budget at £157,000

Nacer Bouhanni second in bunch sprint at Roquetas de Mar finish
triumphing in a bunch sprint at the Clásica de Almería on Sunday.
The Norwegiean profited from a strong leadout from his new teammates in what was a chaotic run-in
he had the inside line through the slight right-hand bend in the final 150 metres
which was enough to hold off his rivals.
Nacer Bouhanni
whose Arkéa-Samsic teammates had jostled for position with the Intermarché riders
took second place after sprinting out of Kristoff’s slipstream.
Giacomo Nizzolo (Israel-Premier Tech) had to go much wide around the bend and paid the price
having to settle for the lower step of the podium.
Stanislaw Aniolowski (Bingoal-WB) produced a powerful late surge on the inside to claim fourth place while Juan Sebastian Molano (UAE Team Emirates) rounded out the top five after taking the wide path
"It was a great day for me," Kristoff said
"We have a good team for this type of race
and we managed to keep it together in the finale
It was quite technical with lots of roundabouts but we held a good position thanks to the team.
"In finale I had a lot help from [Andrea] Pasqualon [Adrien] Petit and [Dmitri] Claeys
so I came into the final straight in the best position
It was a headwind so was maybe a little bit hard to take it from the front
The 37th edition of the Spanish one-day race once again took riders through the Almería region of southern Spain
with its blue waters and its sea of plastic greenhouses responsible for much of Europe’s vegetable production.
The route packed some inland hills into the first half of the race but was practically flat for the second half
making a bunch sprint the likely outcome.
and Gilles De Wilde (Sport Vlaanderen Baloise) animated the race with a three-up breakaway but never looked like causing an upset
De Wilde was dropped with more than 40km to go
while Postlberger and Azparren lasted until just inside the 20km mark.
the wind had threatened but wasn’t doing any real damage
with two crossings of the finish line before the real deal.
Israel-Premier Tech took control heading into the final kilometre but Arkea-Samsic muscled their way up on the left and Intermarché punched through on the right
Kristoff even raised his arm to touch Simone Consonni (Cofidis) and prevent him from slipping into his train
and might consider himself fortunate to have got away with it.
The race continued and Kristoff had a strong two-man lead-out
taking the crucial first position through the right-hand roundabout exit in the final 400 metres
Kristoff then had another rider to take him to 150 metres
where the road bent round to the right again
while the rivals who swarmed from the left-hand side of the road but had left themselves with too much to do.

Roquetas de Mar and El Ejido (Almería) is one of the four main cities on the peninsula that
despite having more than 80,000 inhabitants and even quintupling it’s population in the summer
does not have a rail connection: neither AVE high speed
These Mediterranean towns share the same grievance with National Government
are not served by any sort type of rail connection
despite the profitability that the service would have
Torrevieja did have a passenger train until 1970 when
the branch connecting it with the line between Murcia and Alicante was suspended
The freight line that collected salt from the salt flats also stopped operating in 1986 and the tracks were soon dismantled
That route ran parallel to the natural park of Las Lagunas de la Mata
a route that could no longer be used because today it would not be able to achieve the necessary environmental permits
a new station would also be necessary (the old one was attached to the lagoon)
although this is neither the only nor the most important problem
has again confirmed that a study has already been carried out
with the participation of the municipalities of Torrevieja
Orihuela and the University of Alicante (UA)
that includes three alternatives for a new route
in a project that would cost around 270 million euros
the most “viable” route would be parallel to the route of the Mediterranean motorway (AP-7) in what is known as an AVE Lanzadera
that would run partly on high-speed rails and partly on conventional rails
and which would link the city with the Orihuela-Miguel Hernández AVE station and Madrid
Public Works and Mobility of the Generalitat
explained that the train to Torrevieja has a high “constructive complexity” because the Vega Baja is one of the most flood-prone areas
It is also a region of high seismic risk with a scattered population
He said that the Generalitat has started a study to determine the “most viable” route for the train into Torrevieja
is the “most important municipality in Spain in terms of residential tourism
forecasting that 1.2 million passengers would use the service each year
Last year the mayors of Torrevieja and Orihuela held a telematic meeting with the Minister to promote the project at which they both expressed its importance for the economic and tourist development of the region
which will link the Intermodal and high-speed station of Orihuela with with Torrevieja / Orihuela Costa and that will serve not only these two municipalities but also the entire coastline of Guardamar
Pilar de la Horadada and even the north of the Murcia region in San Pedro del Pinatar and San Javier
The cost of the project is estimated at 277.6 million euro
the amount of which is divided into infrastructure
San Miguel and Torrevieja-Orihuela Costa stations

Sunwaves Festival has long been a must-attend event for fans of minimal and rominimal house music
and this edition’s move from Romania’s Black Sea to Spain’s Mediterranean coast proved that its charm could transcend locations
the 33rd edition of Sunwaves found its new home at Las Salinas Beach in Roquetas de Mar
offering the same stripped-down experience that has made the festival a must-go
With a slightly smaller footprint and just three stages compared to the usual four
Sunwaves 33 still delivered that unique underground atmosphere on a beach
Earlier this year, Sunwaves 32 delivered another unforgettable experience on the shores of Romania’s Black Sea in Constanța
where the majority of the festival editions have taken place
While Sunwaves has happened in other locations
this year’s Spanish debut marked a new chapter for the festival on the Mediterranean coast
Roquetas de Mar is a remote yet accessible beach destination
adding an appreciated level of convenience
Sunwaves was able to stay true to its roots: minimalist production
The venue setup featured three tents lined along Las Salinas Beach
with Tent 3 acting as the epicenter for minimal and rominimal sounds from Thursday to Monday
Although the festival was slightly smaller than Sunwaves 32
large sheets of colored cloth hung from the ceiling
and minimalistic artwork adorned the DJ booths
creating a familiar environment for those who may have been in the past
Sunwaves 33 proved that while the scenery had changed
with plenty of room to dance both in front of the stages and backstage
People weren’t there for Instagram moments; they were there to soak in hours of house
The festival felt just as intimate as previous editions
with the same unspoken understanding among attendees that this was about enjoying the music
The smaller layout didn’t detract from the overall experience
and the vibe remained consistent with what fans have come to expect from Sunwaves over the years
The Funktion-One sound system was flawless
delivering impeccable audio quality across all three tents
some of the speakers still had stickers from previous editions in Romania
reinforcing the feeling that this was the same festival in a new setting
Sunwaves has never been about flashy visuals or over-the-top effects
with simple yet striking projection-mapped artwork and colored lighting creating an immersive atmosphere that drew all attention to the DJ booths
the lineup at Sunwaves 33 was stacked with both new and well-established names in the minimal and rominimal scenes
While Tent 1 and 2 featured some of the bigger names
Tent 3 was where the magic really happened
and Arapu showcased the depth of talent in the minimal scene
providing almost 100 hours of music that felt both familiar and fresh
One of the standout moments came on the final day
when the Take Notes crew closed out Tent 2 with sets from Edi P b2b Kov
a DJ I’ve been following for the past two years
showcasing what has now become his signature sound
also delivered a standout performance that kept the crowd moving the day before
The team behind the festival did an incredible job of maintaining the core elements that make Sunwaves so special: a dedicated crowd
and a focus on delivering the best music possible
Even with one fewer stage and a new location
Sunwaves 33 managed to capture the essence of what makes this festival a must-attend for fans of underground house music
now is the time to add it to your must-see festival list
the festival offers an unmatched combination of great music
and an atmosphere that feels like a true escape from reality
and I can’t wait to see where the festival goes from here
