died during the parade in the Sant Antoni district
forcing a change of route and the cancellation of the animal blessing
What was meant to be a grand commemorative celebration of 200 years of the Tres Tombs parade in Barcelona’s Sant Antoni neighbourhood was overshadowed on Saturday
An eight-year-old horse died this Saturday during the bicentenary celebration of Els Tres Tombs in Barcelona
at the junction of Parlament and Borrell streets
The animal’s death sparked a wave of criticism from animal rights groups
one of the most popular processions of the Tres Tombs festivities—a parade of carriages that ends with the blessing of domestic animals on the feast of Saint Anthony—had organised a national gathering this weekend
and 600 traginers (cart drivers in Catalan) from 95 towns across Catalonia
the Tres Tombs parades take place in the Sant Antoni and Sant Andreu districts
The name derives from the tradition of parading three times (or tombs
diverting the parade along Manso Street while the horse’s body remained covered in the street awaiting removal
and blocked the parade for some time until a truck arrived to drag it away
which denounced the incident on social media
has announced it will consider legal action against those responsible for both the animal and the event’s organisation: “PACMA will consider possible legal action against those responsible for both the horse and the organisers
who take lives every year.” In the same tweet
You have no shame,” posting images of the horse on X (formerly Twitter)
animal rights groups Free The Animals and Girona Animal Save held a protest outside the Guardia Urbana station
The horse collapsed two hours before the main festivities began
Although efforts were made to revive it with water
Veterinarians have stated that a post-mortem is needed to determine the exact cause of death
the Foundation for Advice and Action in Defence of Animals (FAADA) attributed the horse’s death to a possible heart attack brought on by the stress of the parade
“We call on authorities to regulate Els Tres Tombs and put an end to this suffering,” they wrote on social media

Valencia
Horses, bonfires, and flamenco await visitors at the Sant Antoni de la Mar Festival in Valencia, an event that blends tradition, culture, and community spirit in La Pobla de Farnals.
Taking place on February 22 and 23, 2025, this vibrant festival invites locals and tourists alike to experience a weekend filled with unique festivities by the beach.
The celebration kicks off on Saturday at noon with the Entrà del Pi, where horses accompany the entry of pine fragments to build the grand bonfire behind the Nuestra Señora del Carmen parish church. Afterward, attendees can enjoy a communal paella at 2:00 p.m., savoring one of Spain’s most beloved dishes in a lively atmosphere.
As evening falls, a mass honoring Sant Antoni will be held at 6:00 p.m., leading up to the festival’s highlight—the Cremà de la Hoguera at 8:00 p.m. This breathtaking bonfire, crowned by a pig-shaped ninot designed by local artist Víctor Muñoz, will light up the night sky, accompanied by a spectacular fireworks display from Casa El Bolo pyrotechnics. The sight of flames and sparks against the coastal backdrop promises to be unforgettable.
Sunday’s festivities begin early with the despertà at 8:00 a.m., a lively morning wake-up call for the town, followed by a traditional breakfast at 9:30 a.m. For just 3.50 euros, attendees can grab a sandwich and a drink from various local shops, including Ca Sergi, Todo 100, and Vicmar.
At 10:30 a.m., another mass will be held in honor of Sant Antoni, but the true highlight of the day comes at 11:30 a.m. with the blessing of the animals. Around 400 horses from nearby towns such as Puçol, El Puig de Santa María, and Massamagrell will parade along Avenida Constitución, alongside pets like dogs, cats, and birds, all receiving blessings from the parish.
The festivities continue at 2:00 p.m. with a tasting of calderas, a traditional Valencian stew. Prepared by renowned chef Rafa Canari, 13 calderas will be served, with portions priced at 3.50 euros. As the aroma of the stew fills the air, attendees can savor the flavors that define the region’s culinary heritage.
To wrap up the weekend, the Tardeo Flamenco kicks off at 4:00 p.m., featuring a captivating performance by artist David Muñiz. The rhythmic beats of flamenco, combined with the sound of crashing waves, create the perfect ending to a weekend of cultural immersion.
Whether you’re drawn by the equestrian traditions, the warmth of the bonfire, or the allure of live flamenco, Sant Antoni de la Mar promises an unforgettable experience. Valencia residents and visitors, don’t miss out on this cherished festival—come celebrate by the sea and create lasting memories!

Saturday saw the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the organization of the Tres Tombs festival in Barcelona
with thousands of people lining the streets to mark the occasion
The center of the Catalan capital was filled with horses
and mules parading vintage carriages through the streets
and other pets on the sidelines watching on
marking the feast day of Saint Anthony the Abbott (January 17) and honoring animals and all they’ve done for humanity.
The horse and historic cart parade passed through the streets of Barcelona between 10.45 am and 1.30 pm
with clergy out blessing pets and animals brought to the festivity between 11 am and 12 noon.
The parade took place in the Sant Antoni neighborhood and parts of the very center of the city
The festival is also a celebration of the history of carting and mule packing
a historic profession known as “traginer” in Catalan
which was once fundamental to our way of life but has since become redundant with the advent of machinery which can transport and travel heavier loads faster
The Tres Tombs is also a celebration of heritage
remembering the world of our ancestors.
Young and old turned out to watch the parade
with unsuspecting tourists also enjoying the specatacle.

Isern Serra has designed Origo, a new café in Barcelona
Located in the vibrant Sant Antoni neighborhood
the café invites visitors to experience the artisanal process of bread-making in an immersive environment
Origo’s design highlights the craftsmanship and care behind every product it offers
The space is characterized by natural materials and handmade elements
A standout feature is a large sculptural bread display that serves as the heart of the space
showcasing freshly baked goods while offering a direct connection to the production process

Founded in 2018 by François de Halleux
Origo was conceived in Barcelona as a return to the essence of bread-making
prioritizing traditional techniques and natural ingredients
The name ‘Origo,’ meaning ‘origin’ in Latin
nutritious bread made with stone-milled flours
The project by Isern Serra and led by Aran Escudero is divided into two main areas — the workshop and the public store
Interiors are curated to celebrate transparency and authenticity
Visitors can enter through two street-level entrances: one leading to the retail space and another offering views into the workshop
The café’s elongated layout posed a design challenge that Isern Serra transformed into an opportunity by incorporating a long
architectural bread display bar as the central element
Adjacent to this is a café counter made from dyed iroko wood with a stainless steel top
illuminated by six stainless steel Frama lamps
Isern Serra designs Barcelona’s Origo café with a focus on craftsmanship and simplicity
Earth tones dominate the café’s interior
with walls finished in manually applied ecoclay
an agora-like space allows visitors to sample the products
This area features a high micro-cement bar with Frama stools and a large communal table overlooking the workshop through expansive windows
The design ensures that customers feel connected to the baking process
with bakers visible at work in a monochromatic terracotta-toned workshop outfitted with stainless steel ovens and mixers
Serax sconces and geometric concrete lights enhance the ambiance
Origo’s terracotta theme extends to its exterior
where visitors encounter a small outdoor seating area featuring terracotta tile flooring
earthy palette ties the indoor and outdoor spaces together

Barcelona will expand the L2 line of the metro line from Sant Antoni to Parc Logístic in the Zona Franca area of Montjuïc.
Territory minister Sílvia Paneque and the city's mayor, Jaume Collboni, agreed to "unblock" the extension plans in a project that would extend the metro to Montjuïc and improve connections to the airport.
In a meeting on Monday, the two administrations gave their commitment to updating the project and performing an environmental impact study before moving forward with the construction bidding.
Neither administration provided a timeline for the project, but they stated that the preliminary stage now being launched has a maximum duration of 24 months.
The metro extension project has a budget of €1 billion, double the initial estimate from the last study in 2009.
The project was designed in the early 1990s as part of the Olympic development of Barcelona but was never carried out.
According to the minister, the new line will span six kilometers with the same route initially planned in 2006.
The tunnel boring machine will dig 5.4 kilometers from the Parc Logístic station to Poble-sec. The remaining 0.6 kilometers, between Poble-sec and Sant Antoni, will involve a tunnel between screens.
Jaume Collboni described the project as a "long-standing demand of the city" to better connect areas such as Montjuïc.
Collboni emphasized the importance of the new line for connecting cultural and economic institutions like Fira de Barcelona, which is set to be revamped ahead of the 2029 centenary of the Universal Exposition, and the MNAC art museum, which will also be expanded into the Victoria Eugènia Pavilion.
In addition, Paneque and Collboni agreed to create a working group to plan new bus stations by 2028, when the current contracts for intercity bus routes expire.
At this stage, the administrations have not specified how many new bus stations are needed, but they indicated that the existing stations at Sants, Estació del Nord, and Fabra i Puig "will not be sufficient," and instead officials detailed the need to "organize" the entire network.

Some of Barcelona’s lesser-known history has to do with its many urban legends and chilling tales
various history tours guided visitors through the city's most unsettling spots; however
these tours revealed more than just spooky stories
rather how Barcelona's past has influenced many modern sites
The Mercat de Sant Antoni is a bustling marketplace in Barcelona's Eixample district
with stalls selling a variety of goods; however
the area surrounding the market has a darker history
the vicinity was used as a site for public executions
with the bodies of the executed left hanging for days to serve as a warning to others
the bodies were even used for anatomical study
The use of the area for capital punishment continued over the centuries
with the techniques of public execution evolving to include the use of the vile club
The area remained linked to these gruesome practices until the late 19th century.
and the Sant Antoni bastion during the market's renovation in 2007 only added to the eerie atmosphere.
The market is said to be haunted by all of those executed there
and some visitors have reported strange sounds and screams from the market during the night
there was said to be a school of witchcraft on Carrer de la Neu de Sant Cugat
and the school was said to conduct rituals involving human remains
Many of these students were eventually caught
Catalonia experienced a huge witch hunt between 1618 and 1622
This period coincided with social crises such as devastating floods that caused widespread destruction and famine
These factors contributed to mass fear and mistrust
nearly 400 people were executed for witchcraft in Catalonia between the 16th and 17th centuries
usually by public hanging or burning at the stake
it is said that a brothel was located very close to where the school of witchcraft was
Architectural features known as "carassas," often depicting demon or medusa heads
were used to guide Castilian soldiers to brothels
A notable example can be found at the corner of Carrer dels Mirallers and Carrer dels Vigatans.
Adherence to Catholic orthodoxy was strictly enforced during the Spanish Inquisition and women who displayed independent sexuality or were associated with prostitution were often targeted in witch hunts
The proximity of these alleged establishments
highlighted the social landscape and attitudes towards female sexuality and morality in Barcelona
was the site of numerous tragic events and unsettling happenings
In addition to a large number of suicides that took place in the mid 1960s
one legend even states that a child lost his life while attempting to retrieve a ball along the tracks
several unverified accounts have circulated about inexplicable accidents and mysterious incidents that have occurred.
It is said that some metro workers even refuse to work in the station at night to this very day.
Some people claim that security cameras have captured unexplained phenomena after hours
Another popular urban myth involves the so-called 'clean-up train'
said to be the last departure of the night
where some locals believe supernatural activity arises.
The station's reputation has inspired many unsettling stories
including a new thriller movie titled "Estación Rocafort," which was released in September.
Barcelona has several abandoned subway stations considered 'haunted.' These closures were often a result of poor planning and the impracticality of restoring stations near existing ones
enthusiasts have created various stories about these underground spaces.
The historic Santa Maria del Pi church in Barcelona is famous for its 54-meter-tall octagonal bell tower
made a pact with the Devil to build the tallest tower in the city
Mas agreed to give the Devil his soul on the 100th step of the tower
the architect cheated Lucifer and only built 99 steps which enraged the Devil who then cursed the structure
The story claims that "Satan's footprint" on the 100th step is the site of strange occurrences and eerie sensations.
The tower's construction began in 1379 and took several years to complete
the bell tower played a crucial role in times of conflict
such as the Reapers’ War and the War of Succession
where it served as a watchtower and defensive structure
it provided shelter to civilians during the siege of 1713
with its bells sounding the alarm on the morning of September 11
the tower hosted musical performances and fireworks displays
overall contributing to the city's festive atmosphere.
After significant restoration in the mid-1800s
the church was set on fire during the Spanish Civil War
but it was restored once again and structural improvements were made
with particular curiosity about the 100th step and the legend surrounding it.
opened in 1883 and comprises of approximately 151,000 graves
and memorials. The cemetery's western wing
contains mass graves of Civil War victims and memorials to those who suffered under fascism
Many graves belong to those executed during the war
while the nearby Montjuïc Castle served as a prison and execution site.
The cemetery is the resting place of influential figures such as former Catalan Government President Francesc Macià
former Spanish Navy Minister Lluís Companys
It also houses the remains of musician Isaac Albéniz and artists Ramon Casas
Notably the infamous "Vampire of Raval," is also buried there
Lesser-known spirits are said to roam the area
including the "Ghost of Morrot," allegedly a restless spirit from a centuries-old lynching on the cemetery's edge
Other apparitions reportedly appear near the graves of famous mediums and spiritualists buried here.
visitors report eerie whispers and unexplained sounds throughout the cemetery
and feel an unsettling sense of being watched
Certain graves appear more deteriorated than expected
further fueling supernatural speculation and adding to the cemetery's mysterious atmosphere.
One of the tours of Barcelona’s eerie past offered visitors a haunting glimpse into history
and participants got to explore sites that portrayed life and punishment during the Spanish Inquisition.
Sara, the guide from The Dark Past emphasized the tour’s ability to transport participants through time.
“Throughout the tour, we can definitely travel back in time and see how people were living in those days. We can actually compare it with reality nowadays, which is not so far away in many, many different ways,” she told Catalan News.
Despite the somber subject matter, Sara stressed that the experience is not just focused on the grim aspects of history.
“It's not just about torture… It's also very fun. You can also come and have a laugh,” she said. “We're actually talking about many things, not just about the darkness, as we also hear hints about history.”
For Steve, a visitor from Manchester, the tour offered a new perspective on the city. "When you're present and you're in the city and you're in the areas and it's dark and you hear the stories… it can kind of change the way you see being in that area,” he said.
“It's not only the bars and the restaurants anymore, but it's the history, and you get the feeling of how people really used to live,” he added.
But beyond the spooky tales and unsettling histories, Verna, another tour participant recognized the deeper significance to confronting the past.
"Today I’ve seen the same direction and same political movements, like, for 300 or 400 years,” he said.
Similar to Steve, the tour was overall a reminder that the turmoil and conflict of the past are not so distant from the present.
“We are, and yet we are not part of nations. We are living in a world where people just came from different countries and moved together and changed the world.”
The tour highlighted the importance of learning about history beyond one's own borders. People can gain insights into shared human experiences by understanding the dark history and working toward preventing past mistakes.

reveals that the head of the Local Police of Sant Antoni was present during an eviction carried out by Desokupa
a company dedicated to the recovery of occupied properties
this fact represents a “violation of the law” and demonstrates the “connivance of the police chief with practices outside the rule of law”
The municipal socialist group considers it “extremely serious” that a police commander “acts in collusion with groups that operate outside the legal framework
intimidating citizens and violating their fundamental rights”
the involvement of the head of the local police in these events not only damages the image of the police force
but also affects the reputation of Sant Antoni at a national level
From the PSOE have criticized the lack of response from the government team
which they accuse of not having taken action against the revelations of the report
they demand that the City Council immediately dismiss the head of the Local Police and open an internal investigation to clarify what happened
“The image of our municipality is at stake,” they have warned
stressing that “the City Council must act with transparency and forcefulness to ensure respect for legality and confidence in local institutions.”
the Consistory of Sant Antoni has not issued an official response to the PSOE’s request
nor has it clarified whether it will take any action regarding the head of the Local Police
The Local Police of Sant Antoni has dismantled in recent days four illegal settlements located in different parts of the municipality
in an operation coordinated with the municipal cleaning service UTE Portmany and the Department of Environment
The intervention has allowed the removal of more than five tons of accumulated waste in areas of Sa Talaia
Es Molí and the Montecristo industrial estate
where improvised structures had been erected with tents
One of the most significant settlements was located in Es Molí
where the agents discovered a wooden hut covered with a tarpaulin
equipped with gas cylinders connected to a camping gas
the authorities proceeded to the immediate removal of the gas cylinders and the identification of the occupants
who assured that they would leave the place
which was dismantled during the XVI Jornada de Neteja a Sa Talaia with the collaboration of volunteers
who collected his belongings and left voluntarily
the action was carried out after a warning from the neighbors’ association
alerting about the presence of a settlement in a wooded area of the Cas Corb avenue
The Sant Antoni City Council has pointed out that this type of operations are part of a strategy of continuous control and monitoring
with the aim of preventing the installation of new settlements and avoiding environmental and safety risks
The authorities warn that the proliferation of these camps not only generates health and waste problems
but also poses a latent danger in areas prone to forest fires
in collaboration with the cleaning and environmental teams
will continue to carry out periodic inspections to identify and dismantle illegal settlements
thus reinforcing prevention measures throughout the municipality

The City Council of Sant Antoni has responded to the accusations of the PSOE and has denied that the head of the Local Police collaborated with the company Desokupa in an eviction carried out last August in Vara de Rey street
The council insists that the police action was limited to supervising the procedure to ensure compliance with the law and avoid possible incidents
The case came to light after the broadcast of a television report showing images of the eviction in the old Café del Sol building
which led the PSOE of Sant Antoni to demand the immediate dismissal of the head of the Local Police for what they consider a “direct collaboration” with the eviction company Desokupa
the presence of the police chief is evidence of collusion with “practices that act outside the legal framework”
the City Council has denied these accusations and has detailed that last August 21 it received a notice about the actions of Desokupa in the property
two patrols were sent to the site together with the head of the Local Police to verify that everything was carried out in accordance with current regulations and without incident
The agents found that no altercation took place and that both the company and the evicted persons assured that they had reached an agreement with the property
showing a signed contract reflecting this agreement
The consistory has insisted that the agents at no time acted under the orders of Desokupa nor facilitated their intervention
Their only function was to ensure security and avoid possible confrontations between the parties involved
“The Local Police was not accompanying the head of Desokupa
but at all times was acting in the police device to ensure safety and intervene if necessary,” remarked the City Council
it has been emphasized that the occupants of the property received assistance from the municipal social services
which offered them accommodation in the low-demand center of sa Joveria
The condition of the animals present in the house was also checked and their transfer was arranged to the shelter Can Dog
which took care of them free of charge until their owners found a housing solution
the Local Police arrested one of the evicted persons when she tried to reoccupy the property
the woman was caught after breaking one of the windows of the premises with a stone in an attempt to re-enter the property
From the City Council have reiterated that the Local Police always follows the same protocol in such situations: go to the scene to check that the rights of any of the parties are not violated
avoid altercations and act only if necessary
they have defended that their actions in the case of the old Café del Sol were always in accordance with the law

who pointed out that “it will be the first time that this initiative is carried out
which follows the line marked by the cultural project planned in the municipality.”
The event will feature a total of 20 artists from different technical areas
Some of the participating artists are Julián Molina
Also Mariana Arias, sculptor and graphic designer; Carolina de Ibizapainting and collage; Sebastián Blanco

The City Council of Sant Antoni de Portmany presented this Friday a new all-terrain vehicle to reinforce the fleet of the Civil Protection group

allowing a more efficient response to various emergencies
The vehicle is equipped with a complete fire extinguishing system with a capacity of 600 liters
a winch with a towing capacity of up to 5,500 kg and a tow ball
a Tetra communications system and a tablet with 5G connectivity that allows incident-related information to be managed in real time
This new vehicle reinforces the group’s fleet
which currently has five vehicles and four motorcycles
plans to incorporate four new volunteers this year
which will allow it to continue optimizing its emergency response
the actions of the Civil Protection group have been diverse
highlighting its active participation in the recent Dana de Valencia
the Civil Protection volunteers have collaborated in the search for victims
in the cleaning tasks and in the delivery of school material and toys to the affected areas
the group has provided support in the security of events
in the activities of the Festes de Nadal program
and in the prevention and extinguishing of fires
“This new vehicle is an example of the constant effort of the City Council of Sant Antoni to provide the volunteers of the Civil Protection group with the most advanced means to ensure greater safety and a faster and more efficient response in emergency situations,” raised from the consistory
The reopening of the Sant Antoni ring road shows a car lane that the City Council explains was already in the project
This Monday the Ronda Sant Antoni, in a state of exception since 15 years ago the temporary market of Sant Antoni was installed for its reform
But it has done so with a surprise:the round
which was expected to be completely pedestrian
The supporters of the pacification denounce that this reform is less pedestrian and that it deepens the border between the Raval and the Eixample
the Plataforma d’Aectats per la Llosa
which was in favor of a double traffic lane (as before the reform)
Why is there so much controversy with a single street
The most striking aspect of this reform is the appearance of these two lanes that have appeared
paved with black asphalt and at a lower level than the sidewalk (with a “normal” car lane appearance
which moves away from the single shared platforms for cars and pedestrians (Consell de Cent style) to which the last urban reforms of Ada Colau’s government had accustomed
with the difference that it was made of “stone and not asphalt”
presumably (the project does not specify this)
The City Council argues that if the original project already included the circulation of 7 bus lines and loading and unloading vehicles
the change of materials or level of the platform is not substantial
they consider that it will be a slow lane that will not be a regular passage for private cars
passing through it does not bring benefits since it returns to Urgell street as if it were turned before by Tamarit before crossing it
and in spite of “respecting” the reform
the final aspect of the avenue is far from the promise of a pedestrian way that had been made
with two lanes exclusively for traffic that reduce the pedestrian space quite a lot and destine it to cars that will be able to park in the unloading zone on weekends
they explain that only four minor changes have been made:
Section 1 (from Villarroel to Comte d’Urgell)
Sant Pau between Riera Blanca and Plaça del Pes de la Palla)
The pedestrianization of Ronda Sant Antoni 15 years ago to install the temporary market of Sant Antoni during its reform
and the subsequent appearance of the famous slab (the cement platform on which the temporary market was and that remained for years as a pedestrian platform) have kept for almost two decades this important road in discord
Today it is hard to imagine 4 lanes of cars circulating on that street
While the temporary market occupied the space there were no major problems
the healing of the symbolic wound that separates the Raval from the lower rents of the wealthier Eixample
the pedestrian and neighborhood use of the space (with many families and children playing in it)
along with other more conflictive occupations (the “misery market” that has been installed repeatedly) has meant a degradation of the place and a conflict of coexistence
but much less than before and the pergolas and flowerbeds of the pedestrian zone maintain the neighborhood use
In short, like the connection of the streetcar
the pedestrianization (or not) of the Ronda de Sant Antoni is a common clash when a humble area and another that does not touch them come into contact through urban reforms
And hence the politicization of this reform
Coinciding with this reopening, the second phase of the works begins
which will connect the ring road with the Sant Antoni superilla and the Plaça del Pes de la Palla
The latter will be completely transformed and will include a new children’s play area
The Local Police of Sant Antoni has concluded its Security Plan Summer 2024 with a total of 5,301 reports
the result of the operations designed to strengthen control in areas of high tourist influx
traffic regulation and the fight against illegal activities have been implemented
Traffic control and road safety have generated 4,703 complaints
with almost 7,000 vehicles controlled by the agents
270 complaints were filed for violations of the Law for the Protection of Public Safety
72 people have been brought to court for sale of nitrous oxide
with 15 restraining orders and one imprisonment
has highlighted the progress made in the fight against nitrous oxide
highlighting the joint work with the Prosecutor’s Office and the Civil Guard
“We have achieved important seizures
thanks to the cage devices designed to eradicate this sale on public roads,” she said
said that the results achieved reflect the success of the plan
“Sant Antoni is now a safer destination for tourists and residents
thanks to the reinforcement in the busiest areas and the exhaustive control of municipal ordinances,” said Ponce
the City Council has decreed the sealing of six musical equipment for violations of the Law of Activities
13 for failure to comply with closing hours and 8 for lack of licenses
The fight against intrusion in transport has led to the detection of 12 pirate cabs
in collaboration with the Civil Guard and the Consell De Ibiza
71 complaints have been filed for illegal street vending and 41 for unauthorized camping in public areas
A highlight was the removal of 152 abandoned vehicles by the Environmental Unit
the Attestations Unit has registered 53 attestations for crimes against traffic safety
reinforcing surveillance on the roads of the municipality
This summer security plan marks a milestone in the police management of Sant Antoni
consolidating security and coexistence between tourists and residents
with a view to maintaining the municipality as a safe and attractive environment for all
The Local Police of Sant Antoni has arrested five people for the possession of a large volume of material for the sale of nitrous oxide
in two performances carried out in the last month
In one of the performancesagents arrested three Spanish nationals who were unloading boxes from a vehicle into a building on Metge Mateu Gasull street
according to the City Council of Sant Antoni in a statement
The agents intercepted and searched the vehicle
whose capacity contained a total of 78 nitrous oxide canisters
the police seized 18,190 euros located in the bandoliers carried by the detainees and in the door of the vehicle
which is the largest seizure of cash related to the sale of this substance
the Local Police detected at the ses Variades area two British men who were carrying boxes and bags between the trunks of two vehicles in a hurry
they carried out a search of the belongings and seized a total of 35 nitrous oxide canisters
as well as a total of 4,730 euros and 1,450 pounds sterling which were found in the pockets of the now arrested men
the police arrested the individuals as perpetrators of a crime against public health
Once they were taken to the police station
the corresponding proceedings were initiated
the Local Police has instructed a total of 66 police proceedings for arrests for the sale of nitrous oxide on public roads
Neus Mateuthe councilor recalled in a statement that one of the priorities of the Summer Safety Plan is to curb the sale of nitrous oxide in the municipality and this year have been achieved
“great progress” with the application of 15 restraining orders from the areas where these criminal offenses were allegedly committed
“The agents are doing a great job against this criminal act
which since this year is having tougher penalties thanks to the previous work done with Guardia Civil and Prosecutor’s Office”

The Provincial Court of Palma continues to advance in the trial for the disallowance of the dismountable beach bar in Cala Gració, a process in which it is investigated whether the then mayor of Sant Antoni
The prosecution and defense have requested his acquittal
while the private prosecution maintains its request for disqualification
The former municipal secretary in 2018 has appeared as a witness and has questioned the process that led to the disallowance of the beach bar
the decision of the City Council did not follow the established legal channels
such as the ex officio review of the license or the declaration of lesivity
they wanted to backtrack without following the proper administrative procedures,” he said
instead of using the relevant legal mechanisms
the Consistory requested several technical reports outside the regulated procedure to justify the stoppage
the initial authorization of the beach bar had been issued correctly and only lacked the certificate of completion of work for its opening
he has assured that the Demarcation of Coasts of the Balearic Islands endorsed the installation and did not incur in any defect in its resolution of 2017
the municipal architect who prepared one of the reports used to disallow the beach bar also testified
the project presented by the company presented discrepancies between the version sent to Costas and the one delivered to the City Council
which would have generated doubts about its viability
has defended that the permits obtained were correct both for the installation and for the work
which he has described as “very simple and without fixed foundations”
he pointed out that the Consistory never gave the company the opportunity to correct the alleged deficiencies before taking the decision to stop the activity
The origin of the conflict dates back to May 2018
when the Department of Urbanism of Sant Antoni issued a decree that prevented the start of activity of the chiringuito
despite the fact that its installation had previously been authorized
This decree came after the Municipal Government Board approved the permit in April of the same year
supported by the 2017 resolution of Costas
which endorsed the occupation of the maritime-terrestrial public domain with a removable structure for four years
the City Council justified its change of position in the technical reports that warned of irregularities in the project and its possible non-compliance with urban planning regulations
Despite the irregularities in the procedure
the Public Prosecutor’s Office maintains that there is no evidence that the actions of the former mayor and the former councilor of Urbanism responded to the intention of harming the concessionaire company
the Public Prosecutor’s Office has pointed out that the change of criterion cannot be considered an arbitrary or unfair decision
for which reason it has requested the acquittal of the defendants
the private prosecution maintains its position that the paralyzation of the beach bar occurred irregularly and asks that Tur and Ribas be disqualified for prevarication

The Sant Antoni Town Council has announced the start of work on the drafting of a new General Urban Development Plan(PGOU)
a key tool that will replace the current planning approved in 1987 and published in 2001
seeks to respond to the current needs of the municipality and define its long-term development
Mayor Marcos Serra has underlined the importance of the process
highlighting that the new PGOU will allow “to give legal coverage to current problems”
known as Rural Environment Settlements (AMR)
through the delimitation of new areas of facilities
Serra also emphasized that the plan will include the creation of green spaces
sports and educational areas to improve the quality of life of citizens
the Councilor for Urban Planning and Activities
stressed that the municipality is “in luck” thanks to the new law of administrative simplification that allows Sant Antoni
to formulate a single general plan covering structural and detailed urban planning
“Our priority is to build a more accessible
practical and sustainable Sant Antoni,” said Prats
emphasizing the global vision with which this planning will be approached
The City Council will work with a drafting team
which will be selected through a public bidding process
the plan is expected to be approved in advance in 2025
at which time a participatory process will be opened so that citizens can contribute their suggestions
will depend on reports from other administrations
which makes it difficult to establish specific dates
the current PGOU has undergone 15 specific modifications
seven of which have been processed between the last and the current legislature
together with the need to incorporate the abundant regional and insular regulations enacted in recent decades
has led the City Council to undertake a complete revision of the plan
work will be done on the digitalization of the current cartography
to solve interpretation problems related to alignments
The Local Police of Sant Antoni has carried out the dismantling of an illegal settlement in the area of sa Talaia
one of the most emblematic natural areas of the municipality
This operation was carried out in coordination with the municipal cleaning service UTE Portmany and the Department of Environment
marking a new effort in the fight against unauthorized settlements that pose environmental and forest fire risks
The operation began with a previous work of detection and location
in which a drone was used to inspect the terrain
which allowed the eviction to be planned efficiently
although at the time of dismantling no person was located at the site
has allowed the authorities to access areas that are difficult to locate and to act with greater precision
these interventions are part of an ongoing surveillance and cleanup plan that seeks to protect the municipality’s natural spaces against threats of contamination and possible fires
besides having a negative visual and environmental impact
represent a serious danger of forest fires in areas such as sa Talaia
The City Council has pointed out the importance of keeping these areas free of waste and unauthorized camping to ensure the safety of the environment and citizens
The council has asked for the collaboration of citizens to report any suspicious activity in protected areas
it has been recalled that municipal services
such as the Department of Environment and UTE Portmany
are committed to the preservation of natural areas and perform regular checks to maintain the environmental balance

The Sant Antoni de Portmany Health Center will have a conventional radiology room in 2025
thanks to an investment of 232,320 euros that will improve diagnostic services for the nearly 30,000 users of the center
The Pitiusas Health Area has announced that the equipment will be installed during the first quarter of the year
Although the room has been ready for use since 2010
it will be in 2025 when it will be put into operation progressively
this new infrastructure will avoid up to 4,000 annual referrals to Can Misses Hospital
which currently handles most of the X-rays requested by patients from Sant Antoni
The new room will not only relieve the workload of the Radiodiagnosis Service of the Can Misses Hospital
but will also benefit the center’s Primary Care Emergency Service
this addition “will bring care closer to thousands of residents of the municipality and reduce waiting lists in the Health Area of Ibiza and Formentera”
The implementation of the Radiology room will be gradual
with specific circuits for scheduled and urgent activity
This planning ensures an effective integration of the new services without interruptions in the daily care of the center
the Sant Antoni de Portmany Health Center manages 29,919 health cards and it is expected that this new technological equipment will significantly improve the efficiency and health resources of the island
The aim of this intervention is to renaturalize the area and turn it into an attractive environment for cultural tourism
thus enhancing the daytime offer of Sant Antoni
was a construction of more than eighty years old that in the past had been converted into a house and later used as a warehouse for a tourist establishment
The demolition has an estimated cost of 39,586.90 euros
The Sant Antoni Town Hall has stressed that this project is part of a broader plan to improve the tourist competitiveness of the area and move towards deseasonalization
The creation of the new cultural space aims to attract tourists interested in cultural proposals and
offer a renewed environment for the local community
This space will join other planned actions
such as the creation of a boulevard on Vara de Rey street and the artistic intervention of renowned artist Okuda San Miguel on Santa Agnès street
“We want to transform the old town into a cultural meeting point that benefits both neighbors and visitors
offering a more sustainable and attractive tourism,” said the City Council in its statement
Sant Antoni continues to advance in its urban transformation
betting on projects that promote culture and quality tourism
generating a positive impact on both the local economy and the welfare of residents
The City Council of Sant Antoni has approved
the project for the remodeling of the boulevard of Vara de Rey street
which will turn it into a pedestrian boulevard
provisionally awarded to the company UTE Facsa-Islasfalto
will have a total cost of 5,293,020.13 euros
of which 1.24 million come from European funds Next Generation
The company has 10 days to submit the necessary documentation before formalizing the contract
The aim of the project is to connect the Ponent promenade with the urban core of Sant Antoni by means of a pedestrian street
which will extend to Bartolomé Vicente Ramón street
This intervention includes the renovation of public services
the burying of overhead networks and the improvement of accessibility
As explained by the Councilor for Public Works
the design of the new boulevard is part of the sustainability and urban transformation plans promoted by the City Council
The remodeling is expected to help boost local commerce
reduce vehicular traffic and offer a more suitable environment for both residents and visitors
which initially had an execution period of 12 months
will be reduced to 11 months thanks to improvements introduced during the bidding process
Mateu has pointed out that measures will be implemented to minimize the inconvenience caused by the works
especially in terms of noise and traffic in areas near schools
This action is part of the Tourism Sustainability Plans in Destinations (PSTD) of the Recovery
financed by the European Union through the NextGenerationEU program
designed by the company DCOD Ingeniería S.L.
is aligned with the Government’sCircularitat Plan
which seeks to improve and revalue urban spaces in the municipalities of the archipelago

which will allow to fully enjoy the festive day
Formentera also joins the stable conditions for tonight

Sant Antoni has already closed the contracting of Okuda San Miguel to convert the floor of Santa Agnès street
in a large mural with the colorful geometric motifs that mark the style of the Cantabrian urban artist
which will be ready two years after the initial forecasts
has been awarded for a final amount of 371,014 euros
as recorded in the State Contracting Platform
151,000 euros above the budget estimated by the City Council at the beginning of 2023
The Consistory had not responded to the closing of this edition of the reason for the increase in the cost of Okuda’s work
nor the specific date of the start of the work
the tender specifications stipulate that the intervention must be completed within four months
This execution period implies a wide margin of maneuver that is granted “due to the fact that unforeseen events may arise that make the conditions for the development of the project not suitable”
the artist’s own estimate is that the work could be completed in 49 days
in Sant Antoni’s first attempt in 2023 to embody Okuda’s design in the West End
announced that work would begin in March to be completed the following month
the City Council had paved Santa Agnès Street so that it could be painted over
the Consistory indicated that the intervention would cost 220,000 euros
given the imminence of the tourist season and the reluctance of the West End businessmen
Okuda’s project had been one of the reasons for the confrontation between the majority of the municipal government of the PP and its ex-partner of Proposta per les Illes (PI)
Serra’s other partner in his previous municipal mandate
also expressed his doubts about the durability of the paint on the floor of such a busy street
This aspect is included in the technical specifications of the City Council
which states that the materials used must be specific for outdoor use and allow “easy and simple maintenance”
The artist must offer a one-year guarantee for his intervention and then undertake to carry out an annual review of the same
the City Council will be responsible for the restoration of the mural
In addition to the intervention on the ground
the project is completed with triangular awnings that will provide shade
These elements will also be the work of Okuda
although it was initially announced that it was a design by the urban artist Misterpiro
