July 7 (EFE/EPA).- A cultural initiative is flourishing online in Spain to protest against the censorship of plays by the far-right party Vox in several towns amid the current election campaign in the country
actors like Alba Flores (‘The Money Heist‘) and institutions including the General Society of Authors (SGAE)
the Union of Actors and Actresses and the Academy of Performing Arts have joined the protest under the hashtag #StopCensura (‘Stop censorship’)
which has accumulated more than 19,000 posts on Instagram
“Culture professionals want to denounce the return of censorship that is attacking freedom of expression
a socially and democratically consolidated right in our Constitution
We demand the protection of our fundamental rights because
a statement published by the recently created Platform of Free Arts reads
Theater company Defondo was the first to denounce the far-right’s “ideological veto” to its adaptation of Virginia Woolf’s Orlando
which was scheduled to be performed in November in Valdemorillo
a town governed by the conservative People’s Party (PP) and Vox
the Pixar-Disney film ‘Lightyear’ was removed from the town’s cultural programme because of a scene that features two women kissing
the local government canceled a play about a Republican teacher executed during the Spanish civil war alleging security problems and economic issues
a city about 10 kilometers south of Madrid which is governed by the center-left party Socialist Party (PSOE)
has seen how the far-right party has demanded the removal of a giant phallus and vulva in a production of ‘The villain of Getafe’ (‘La Villana de Getafe’) by Lope de Vega
considered one of Spain’s greatest writers
tells Efe that the party has received more than 20 complaints from neighbors and other people and that some photographs show there were children watching and participating in the play
“The work of a great author has been transformed into something that has no special meaning
We are talking about two tasteless figures on a street in Getafe at 9 o’clock on a Sunday night”
who demands that “the neighborhood must not disturbed” by plays that should be put on in “private spaces”
says the demand is “miserable” as it aims to hurt the profession and the collective work of more than 70 people
“We are trying to make it less serious because it occurred amid the election campaign and this party needs to cause unrest and confusion among citizens,” adds Toro
who insists that ‘La Villana de Getafe’ is a fun comedy the public has enjoyed a lot and that “has been adapted in a healthy way”
Vox’s comments “are not going to mean anything,” he says
actor from the company ‘Destellos’ and one of the protagonists in the play
highlights that the aim of the adaptation was to pull in a crowd
“The last thing that would cross our minds is that there was going to be censorship simply because we wanted to give the play an update regarding women’s empowerment and the seduction game of the classical world,” he says
The Wolfpack leaves the race with four wins
for a total of nine Grand Tour stage victories this season
Deceuninck – Quick-Step wrote history again
this time by becoming the first team ever to win the points classification at the Tour de France and Vuelta a España in the same season with two different riders
After Mark Cavendish captured the green jersey in July on the iconic Champs-Élysées
Fabio Jakobsen did the same a couple of weeks later at the last Grand Tour of the season
The Dutchman made one of the most amazing and memorable comebacks in the history of the sport
just one year after the Tour de Pologne crash which marked the road of a long and arduous recovery
concluded with his victory in Molina de Aragon
in La Manga del Mar Menor and Santa Cruz de Bezana
the latter coming on his birthday and giving the 25-year-old enough of a buffer in the points classification ahead of the race’s final week
From there on it was all about surviving the brutal mountains
which Fabio did thanks to an incredible team effort
with all his seven Deceuninck – Quick-Step teammates constantly shepherding and bringing him home safely
a laborious and fully committed effort for which he was full of praise in Santiago de Compostela
where he took to the podium after the final individual time trial to receive the points classification jersey
a first for a Dutchman at La Vuelta in 10 years
“To finish here in Santiago de Compostela is my biggest victory
Who would have thought about this one year ago
I was waving to the fans who were shouting my name
A hat-trick of stages and the green jersey is something I would have never dreamed of three weeks ago
This achievement was possible with the help of my teammates.”
“They were with me everywhere – on the climbs
in the valley – they rode themselves inside out for me and I’m incredibly grateful to them
everything what this stands for and our strong connection
I want to say a big thank you to everybody involved: the guys

Deceuninck-QuickStep sprinter claims third stage win in Santa Cruz de Bezana
Jakobsen has more than fulfilled his pre-race mission in the Vuelta a España with his hat-trick of stages
while Deceuninck-QuickStep picked up a fourth with Fabian Sénéchal on the one day the Dutchman could not make it to the sprint
While there are no more sprint stages on offer between here and Santiago de Compostela
Jakobsen holds a considerable advantage in the points competition
127 more than his closest rival Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Fenix)
starting with two days in the mountains of Asturias
“I have to get over those mountains,” he told reporters after claiming his fifth career victory in the Vuelta a España during stage 16 on Tuesday.
and if there is the chance of some points on the way
But I would like to finish the Vuelta and hopefully in green.”
Jakobsen agreed that it had been an extremely technical finale
“or as Primož Roglič [Jumbo-Visma] likes to say a 'gran casino'” - a chaotic finish
Jakobsen listed off the challenges he had faced in the last part alone: "6.5 kilometres there was a roundabout to the right
somebody almost crashed and I was just behind.”
Jakobsen pointed out that UAE Team Emirates had made a successful effort to drop him on an unclassified climb 50 kilometres from the line
he had had some sterling support from his teammates getting back into contention
especially today,” Jakobsen said by way of demonstrating how big a contribution his teammates had made.
“I got dropped but my teammates kept me in front
but I’m happy to give them this victory as a gift to them all as well.”
The Vuelta a España has been singularly special for Jakobsen this year
with his first week win in particular representing the closing chapter of his comeback from the terrible injuries of 2020
that he still gets goosebumps with each win
because “it’s so nice to be able to sprint again.”
but there’s the adrenalin and focus that comes with it
And to get a win on my 25th birthday in a Grand Tour like this
that’s a dream for every young boy or girl as a sprinter
and I had no idea if I could become a bike rider again
These wins are better performances than when I won here two years ago,” before adding a simple heartfelt conclusion

Having survived a UAE-Emirates effort to drop him before the race’s conclusion
Jakobsen’s triumph increased his lead in the points competition

Just after a crash of 15 riders including second-place Guillaume Martin and fourth-place Enric Mas
a quintet of fugitives skipped away off the front
Also caught up in the crash was 12th place Giulio Ciccone who
after a long effort to chase back onto the peloton
Ciccone also had to abandon the Giro d’Italia after crashing on Stage 16; he has four DNFs in eight Grand Tour starts
but has two Giro stage wins and took the Giro mountains title in 2019

Groupama-FDJ and Deceuninck-Quick Step kept a close watch on the breakaway
but only one made the junction with the escape
UAE-Emirates assumed control on an uncategorized and dropped Jakobsen
A contingent of Quick Step riders brought Jakobsen back
For 30 km the gap to the leading sextet was 30 seconds
The last of the fugitives only capitulated with 4.5 km to race
The teams fought for the best position as the road narrowed and curved
but it was Bora-Hansgrohe leading under the red kite
Jakobsen followed Jordi Meeus of Bora-Hansgrohe and then came around the Belgian to claim the hat trick and his fifth career Vuelta win
