Leopoldo Maestu, Managing Director of Alstom in Spain, who accompanied the Minister and the President of Renfe on the visit, pointed out that this contract, the largest in Alstom's history in Spain, has enabled the company to double capacity and employment at the industrial centre, which already employs more than 1,100 people and is one of the Group's largest in Europe.
"This project not only guarantees our workload for the coming years, but also includes an ambitious growth and investment plan. It has allowed us to develop a plan for growth and industrial transformation in Santa Perpètua based on three pillars: people, industrial capital and digitalisation and sustainability," says Leopoldo Maestu.
In this sense, Alstom has recruited more than 500 new professionals in Catalonia over the last two years. The site will reach its historic peak of activity in the financial year 2025-2026, when the production of the new high-capacity trains for Renfe will be at full capacity.
The Renfe contract also means an increase in indirect employment in Catalonia, as Alstom has more than 230 local suppliers and, in the last year, made purchases from Catalan suppliers for an amount of more than 212 million euros.
The new trains, with 6 cars each (4 single-deck cars and 2 double-deck cars), will have capacity for more than 900 passengers. The 12 doors on each side, evenly distributed along the train, improve station dwell time by speeding up passenger flow and the transport capacity of suburban networks. In addition, the future trains, fully accessible for people with reduced mobility, will have spaces for PRM chairs, and multifunctional spaces for bicycles, suitcases, baby prams and more.
Technically, the new vehicles will be equipped with state-of-the-art equipment to improve reliability and punctuality. In addition, technology implemented will allow for thousands of data per second to be collected from the entire fleet. This real-time information ensures more efficient operational decision-making, which will result in a better service for commuters.
The first three units that are currently being manufactured will begin to circulate in tests in the coming months, thus initiating the process of validation and certification of the new rolling stock. Once this is over, series production of the remaining 198 units will begin, with the aim of delivering between 3 and 4 trains to Renfe each month.

The Lima metro line, opened in 2011, is 43 km long and includes 26 stations. It crosses the capital city from the South at ‘Villa El Salvador’ to the North at ‘San Juan de Lurigancho’. Up to 320,000 citizens use it every day. With the new ‘Metropolis’ train sets manufactured in Catalonia the Lima Metro will more than double its transportation capacity, from 20,000 passengers per hour to 48,000.
The cars will have air conditioning, passenger information services and step-free access. The carriages are inspired by the Serie 9000 of the Barcelona Metro, which was also designed and manufactured in the Alstom factory in Santa Perpetua de Mogoda.

2009 - The first European center exclusively dedicated to training riders
Montesa Honda celebrated the opening of Honda's Safety Institute (HIS)
or Honda Instituto de Seguridad in Spanish
is a center dedicated to the training of motorcycle riders
This facility is the first in Europe joining many similar facilities around the world
for the center which is one of 36 worldwide
and the impressive main building is equipped with many classrooms
an area with different surface friction for braking practice
The facility is designed to host up to 15,000 attendants a year
Honda has invested close to 4 million Euros in the project
HIS will offer practical and theoretical training with experienced instructors from Honda Riding School
an organisation with more than 17 years of experience that has educated more than 144,000 people
courses on road safety and defensive driving and a course for professional motorcycle riders
The outstanding facilities at HIS combined with the variety of programs offered ensure that every attendee gets the maximum benefit
the courses are reasonably priced to offer the opportunity to as many people as possible
Programs cost between 70 and 100 Euros and this includes use of a motorcycle and the required safety equipment
In addition HIS will offer free entry and transportation to groups of secondary school students aged 14-16
you can ride a 50cc motorcycle aged 14 and from age 16 you can ride motorcycles with 51cc and larger engines so the scheme is provided to encourage and educate future riders
The educational program includes lessons in the control of a motorcycle
In addition to the practical training all participants receive a Manual of Basic Riding Techniques in the form of a book and DVD

(Bloomberg) -- French fuel distributor Rubis SCA is exploring options including a potential sale, according to people familiar with the matter, after its shares slumped by about two-thirds over the past six years.
The Paris-listed company is working with advisers and has reached out to potential suitors to gauge interest, said the people, who asked not to be identified as the information is private. Considerations are at an early stage and Rubis could decide against a deal, they said.
A representative for Rubis declined to comment, adding the company “has regularly been the subject of rumors in recent months.”
Shares of Rubis surged as much as 6.6% Wednesday before erasing the gains. They traded 0.2% lower by 9:28 a.m. in Paris, giving the company a market value of about €2.4 billion ($2.5 billion).
Rubis distributes products such as gasoline and bitumen in Europe, Africa and the Caribbean. The firm last month completed a sale of its 55% stake in the Rubis Terminal joint venture to I Squared Capital. It’s also been boosting investment in clean power after its 2022 acquisition of a solar farm developer.
Rubis has been under activist investor pressure to change its governance and strategy after its shares dropped about 65% from an all-time high in May 2018.
While Rubis managing partners Jacques Riou, Gilles Gobin and his daughter Clarisse Gobin-Swiecznik only own just over 2% of the company’s shares, they have broad sway over the firm due to its status as a partnership limited by shares, known in French as société en commandite par actions.
The company’s current status needs to be replaced by a corporate form that restores the power of shareholders in the composition of the management body, Ronald Sämann, a Canadian businessman who holds 5% in the firm, wrote in a letter dated May 1 and seen by Bloomberg News.
Sämann, the majority shareholder of Car-Freshner Corp., was elected to the Rubis board in June. French billionaire Vincent Bollore and entrepreneur Patrick Molis earlier this year also disclosed their 5% holdings, respectively.

AN accident occurred near the Barcelona municipality of Santa Perpetua de Mogoda involving a lorry transporting pigs which collided with a private car on the AP-7
July 31 resulted in the motorway being closed in the northbound direction
between the aforementioned point of the accident and Mollet del Vallés
Motorists caught up in the accident witnessed the unusual sight of pigs running down the motorway after the large-tonnage lorry overturned and shed its load, as reported by the Catalan Traffic Service (SCT) on social networks
the Generalitat deployed eight ground crews of firefighters to the location to extinguish the ensuing fire that broke out in the driver’s cab
A helicopter was also dispatched to give an aerial report on the proceedings
which overturned and the cabin caught fire

The event caused large traffic jams on the Catalan motorway
This meant that drivers had to use alternative routes such as the C-16 and C-25 to continue their journeys
Once the pigs were rounded up and removed from the road
the lanes heading in the direction of Tarragona could be reopened
However, the traffic jams to the north lasted a lot longer, especially after another accident occurred, this time in Cardedeu, which again forced a northbound lane on the AP-7 to be cut for some time, as reported by okdiario.com
