Godolphin unveiled a homebred filly named Tarifa at Keeneland
she cruised to a 6-length victory over the Beard Course of 7 furlongs
Tarifa will make her first Keeneland start since the debut in the 30th running of the $350,000 Baird Doubledogdare (G3) for fillies and mares
who is closing in on millionaire status with three Grade 2 victories on her resume
“She just shipped up here Monday from Payson Park (training center in South Florida) where she wintered very well,” said Blake Cox
“She has put on weight and is doing well.”
Tarifa closed her 2024 campaign with a runner-up finish in the Falls City (G3) at Churchill Downs and then faced Grade 1 competition in the B
Wayne Hughes Beholder Mile Presented by FanDuel at Santa Anita on March 8
“It was a Grade 1,” Cox said in explaining the decision to ship cross country for Tarifa’s 2025 debut in which she finished third
“She already was Grade 1-placed (from a third in the Cotillion)
Even though the Baird Doubledogdare is a Grade 3 event
the stakes is not short on Grade 1 talent with the likes of 2023 Eclipse Award winner Just F Y I and 2023 Darley Alcibiades (G1) winner Candied in the field for the 1 1/16-mile test
but we felt it was better suited for her than waiting for the ($1 million) La Troienne (G1) and having to face Kenny’s filly,” Cox said
That would be trainer Kenny McPeek’s reigning Horse of the Year, Thorpedo Anna
who defeated Tarifa in their two meetings last year: the Kentucky Oaks (G1) and the Cotillion
Undefeated Cavalieri wins the La Canada Stakes at Santa Anita Park
The $300,000 B. Wayne Hughes Beholder Mile Stakes (G1) has drawn what looks like an evenly matched field of six fillies and mares, including shippers from Florida and Louisiana, for the one-mile dirt race that headlines an 11-race card March 8 at Santa Anita Park

Spanish ferry operator Baleària has wrapped up the first docking tests of the fit-for-future fast ferry Avemar Dos in the Port of Tarifa
an 82-meter-long catamaran that can board up to 900 passengers
was reportedly retrofitted to keep up with the maritime industry’s increasing sustainability-oriented efforts
The vessel is said to produce much less harmful pollutant emissions owing to its engines
which the company shared were “modernized.”
the completion of the docking trials comes in the wake of Baleària finalizing the launch of its operations on the Tarifa-Tangier Ville route
which is due to commence from early May this year
Baleària also revealed the design of a pair of 100% electric
zero-emission fast ferries that are due to operate on the first green corridor between Spain and Morocco on the Tarifa-Tangier Ville route
As informed, the all-electric catamaran duo is set to be constructed at the Armon shipyard in Gijón over the next two and a half years. Baleària was awarded the contract by the Algeciras Bay Port Authority (APBA) in November last year to manage the Tarifa-Tangier Ville line for the next 15 years
The APBA prioritized technical and environmental criteria in rewarding the first intercontinental green line

Cadaqués is a popular coastal resort with Spanish holidaymakers
To experience Spain like a local, you might slow-travel around the vineyards and villages of Catalonia with their traditional artisan cultures, escape the heat in Asturias or discover the more laid-back side of Ibiza with its pristine beaches and quiet coves
We tapped our own Spain experts for suggestions on the places they love to go on vacation for some under-the-radar vacation spots.
Jamie Ditaranto has lived in Barcelona for more than three years and visits the Costa Brava whenever she can
Why Cadaqués?I had heard about Cadaqués many years before my first summer in Barcelona
I was entranced by the idea of visiting the vacation and retirement home of Salvador Dalí
I brought my camera and found a destination that had no bad angles and long stretches with pockets of rocky beaches where I have gotten some of my best reading done over the years
Must-do activityIf you have extra time, go to Cap de Creus
This is the natural park where Dalí found inspiration for his paintings and the landscape is naturally surreal with a bare rocky landscape and views of the Pyrenees Mountains as they fall off into the sea
where there is a lovely restaurant with stunning views
Where to stayThere are many beautiful boutique hotels and apartments embedded in the old village. For something chic but simple, I like the Tramuntana Hotel. When I’m backpacking and on a budget, Hostal Vehí is a reliable and friendly choice with a great location right next to the church.
Where to eatI always joked it would be strange to dine solo at a restaurant called Compartir. The word means “to share” in Spanish, so when I returned to Cadaqués with friends I made sure we had a reservation to enjoy this restaurant's delectable and creative 13-course tasting menu. Compartir is the sister restaurant of Barcelona’s Disfrutar
the three-Michelin-star restaurant with a year-long wait for reservations.
Isabella Noble grew up in Málaga and now splits her time between Andalucía and Barcelona
back-to-nature paradise where there’s often no one else around
Where to stay in TarifaI usually stay at one of the small, independent boutique hotels in Tarifa’s meandering old town; The Riad is a stylishly converted 17th-century home with creative Moroccan-Andalucian design, while Hostal África has boho-cool rooms and rooftop yoga
Where to eatYou’re spoiled for choice with Tarifa’s lively international-influenced food scene; I often grab a fruit and yogurt breakfast bowl at Morocco-inspired Café Azul, and later stop for tapas (just-cooked tortilla, payoyo goat milk cheese) on the terrace at El Lola
which also serves local sherries and Cádiz wines
Joan Torres is a writer from Barcelona who loves going off the beaten path
Why Priorat? In the heart of rural Catalonia
Priorat is an off-the-beaten-track region (about an hour from Barcelona) where visitors can learn about traditional wine making
Many consider the wines produced in Priorat to be the most sophisticated in all of Spain (with prices to match)
Must-do activityDotted with several medieval villages, Priorat is best visited by car, road-tripping from village to village and cellar to cellar. While Álvaro Palacios and Mas Doix are some of the most popular
which produces no more than 5000 bottles per year
Siurana and Falset are all beautiful villages packed with cellars
where you can also find accommodations at every price point
ranging from budget hostels to luxury boutique hotels within the wineries
Where to eatWhen it comes to food, La Cooperativa de Porrera is one of the best restaurants in the region for authentic Catalan food, while Brichs, located in Falset
is the place to satisfy more demanding gourmets looking for a more modern version of the local cuisine
Natalia Diaz lives in Madrid and loves writing about food
Why Sant Josep de sa Talaia?Ibiza is well known as the unrivaled party capital of Europe – yet this is just a tiny sliver of the story of this Mediterranean paradise
Beyond the strobe lights and glamorous nightclubs
the Balearic island has a serene side that’s perfect for those who prefer a more laid-back and nature-oriented experience
Must-do activityDrive around to explore Ibiza’s breathtaking natural beauty, from its numerous calas (coves) and majestic cliffs, to its white sand coastlines embraced by clear sapphire waters. Sa Caleta (Es Bol Nou) beach hosts the ancient ruins of the first Phoenician settlement in Ibiza
a UNESCO World Heritage Site atop a cliff with panoramic views of the Balearic Sea
I prefer staying at a short-term rental in Sant Josep de sa Talaia
Sant Josep offers a perfect mix of rugged natural beauty
Where to eatEs Boldado on Cala d’Hort is hands down my favorite restaurant on the entire island – I can stay here all day dining on fresh seafood and traditional ibicenco cuisine and sipping premium Spanish wines. The best part is enjoying its main feature: a spectacular view of mythical Es Vedrà island
believed to be the tip of Atlantis and legendary home to sirens
Paula Sánchez Iglesias and Daniel Del Río Espina are from Avilés in Asturias and run the Spanish travel blog, Hacemoslasmaletas
Why Somiedo?Tucked away in northern Spain's Cantabrian Mountains, Parque Natural de Somiedo offers a refreshing escape from the summer heat
This UNESCO Biosphere Reserve welcomes hikers with glacial lakes
you'll discover brañas, traditional cattle-herding settlements with charming tietos (thatched cottages) that tell stories of the region's pastoral heritage. For the best experiences
hike El Valle del Lago or Los Lagos de Saliencia
Must-do activityThe park holds Western Europe's largest population of brown bears; roughly 280 roam freely throughout the western range. Watching these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat is a popular activity, but always go with a local guide who can share insights about conservation efforts
golden eagles or the colorful capercaillie (fowl)
Where to stayBase yourself in the mountain village of Pola de Somiedo
where accommodations range from cozy B&Bs to rural homestays and hotels
visit the Somiedo Natural Park Interpretation Center and its Bear House to deepen your understanding of the region's ecology
China announced on Saturday that it has imposed "retaliatory tariffs" on some Canadian agricultural and food imports
after Canada last October imposed duties on Chinese electric vehicles and steel and aluminum products
The new tariffs will take effect on March 20
according to a statement from the Customs Tariff Commission of the Chinese State Council
A 100% tariff will be imposed on Canadian vegetable oil
and an additional 25% tariff on pork and aquatic products
especially after Donald Trump came to power in the US
The tariffs came in retaliation for tariffs imposed by Ottawa on Chinese imports in October last year
which included a 100% tax on all electric vehicles made in China and a 25% tax on aluminum imports

Tarifa wins the Mother Goose Stakes at Aqueduct Racetrack
Godolphin's Tarifa may not have a grade 1 win to her credit
but she surely displayed a top-level amount of heart in posting her third grade 2 triumph of the year
We're proud of Tarifa," trainer Brad Cox said
The finish flipped the result of the Sept. 21 $1 million Cotillion Stakes (G1), when Gun Song was second by a neck to probable 3-year-old filly champ Thorpedo Anna and Tarifa was another 3 1/2 lengths back in third
"I thought she ran a really good race in the Cotillion last time
Obviously we had to deal with Gun Song today
but (Tarifa) was very tough down the lane and (winning jockey Flavien Prat) did a good job
I'm proud of the way she stepped up the last eighth of a mile and finished the job," Cox said
The win was the fourth in seven 2024 starts for the daughter of the Awesome Again mare Kite Beach
It tacked another dose of graded stakes laurels to a résumé that also includes wins earlier this year in the Rachel Alexandra Stakes (G2) and Fair Grounds Oaks (G2) that sent her off at 5-1 odds in the Kentucky Oaks (G1)
when she never threatened and finished ninth in a rare dull performance
A 4-year-old campaign with high hopes for becoming a grade 1 winner
"This was her last opportunity to face straight 3-year-olds
I think the goal would be at some point to win a grade 1 with her and we're hoping she'll get that opportunity next year as a 4-year-old," Cox said
In a field reduced to five by three scratches
Prat put Tarifa on the lead shortly after the break
something unusual for a filly who had typically been third or fourth early on
They led through fractions of :24.08 and :48.86 from the rail with Gun Song in closest pursuit
Gun Song and John Velazquez took aim at the leader in the stretch and stuck a head in front at the eighth pole.
But Tarifa did not back down from the challenge and valiantly fought back to win by a head in 1:50.78 as the 2-1 ($6.10) second choice
"At the top of the lane it looked like I was beaten
"It felt like she didn't want to give up."
Including the narrow loss to Thorpedo Anna
Lee Lewis' grade 2-winning Gun Song closed out her 3-year-old campaign with three wins and four seconds in nine starts for trainer Mark Hennig
We'll give her a little break and come back with her next year."

Spanish ferry operator Baleària has been awarded the contract to operate the intercontinental shipping line between Tarifa and Tangier Ville
The company won the competition with an investment of €135 million in the construction of two zero-emission electric fast ferries with a capacity for 800 passengers
the electrification of the ports and the battery recharging system
of the three sections into which the tender is divided
Baleària won in the two that have objective criteria (technical and economic)
and in the section based on subjective criteria (operation)
the company had a lower score than the two other companies presented
Baleària’s President Adolfo Utor claimed that “Baleària has presented the most sustainable and technologically advanced project of the three that have participated in the competition,” stating that it is good news for Spain and Morocco and also for the shipping company which
after almost 20 years of aspiring to operate and modernize this route
Utor pointed out that “pending official confirmation
we can conclude that Baleària has been the clear winner of the tender,” adding that “the commercial and technological strength displayed by Baleària will generate greater wealth for the region and will favour an increase in economic and cultural activity in both Andalusia and Tangier.”
the construction of the two electric catamarans will be carried out at Astilleros Armon in Gijón and will last two and a half years
Baleària added “the world’s second” fast ferry with dual gas engines’ to the Barcelona-Alcúdia-Ciutadella route
This incorporation is said to allow Baleària to increase its high-speed seats on the route by 50% and double the number of vehicles while reducing its carbon footprint
specifically facilitating the maritime and offshore industry

Spanish ferry operator Baleària has embarked on a project to implement the first green corridor between Spain and Morocco
These twin ships will be deployed on the “most sustainable” connection between Europe and Africa
“This is a pioneering and technologically advanced public-private project that will enable us, for the first time ever, to run the entire route using only electric energy and, therefore, zero emissions,” Adolfo Utor, Baleària’s President and Owner
Baleària was awarded the contract by the Algeciras Bay Port Authority (APBA) to manage the Tarifa-Tangier Ville line for the next 15 years
The APBA prioritized technical and environmental criteria in awarding the first intercontinental green line
“The Port Authority laid the foundations for this project
which is in line with our innovation and sustainability values
We are taking on the challenge of turning the Tarifa-Tangier Ville line into an example of mobility
modernity and international sustainability,” Utor emphasized
These twin catamarans will be built at the Armon shipyard in Gijón over the next two and a half years
Each boat will have 16 MW of electric power
thanks to four electric propulsion units fueled by batteries
Their 11,500 kWh capacity will allow the ships to make the entire voyage (18 miles) under electric propulsion and emissions-free
“They will be totally decarbonised voyages
with the 2050 objectives,” Utor pointed out
Each ship will also have four diesel combustion backup generators
The fast ferries’ batteries need to be fully recharged during the one-hour stopover in each port
8 MWh gross batteries will be installed in both ports
which will be added to the shore power supply (5 MW in Tarifa and 8 MW in Tangier)
The charging will be carried out by two innovative autonomous robotic arms installed in each port
which will be connected to the ship via the ship’s onshore power system (OPS) connection
“This innovative system will allow us to recharge the batteries needed for the route in just 40 minutes,” Utor explained
the total battery capacity will be 39 MWh gross (equivalent to around 765 electric cars)
The company’s head stressed that this is “a public-private project
which also involves the participation of benchmark national and international companies in the fields of engineering and energy
which he defines as “a green umbilical cord uniting two countries with a close historical
economic and commercial relationship.”
Utor also pointed out the shipping company’s intention to “turn the Tarifa-Tangier Ville route into a talent-attraction pole
a focus of development opportunities and a catalyst for the local economy and employment.”
The Spanish Secretary of State for Transport and Sustainable Mobility
stated that “the decarbonisation of transport is one of the Ministry’s priorities.”
he acknowledged “the commitment to sustainability and the enormous efforts being made by Baleària to promote the decarbonisation of its fleet and its commitment to innovation.”
Andalusia’s Minister of Tourism and External Affairs
welcomed the fact that the region is once again ‘a pioneer in sustainability’
Bernal praised the commitment of Baleària and the port authority
“The APBA wants to drive the energy transition
as well as facilitate strategic projects such as this one,” Gerardo Landaluce
President of the Algeciras Bay Port Authority
Landaluce highlighted “the firm commitment to innovation and environmental protection through the electrification of the docks”
which will involve an investment of €62 million OPS projects in Tarifa and Algeciras
He also indicated that the land access to the Port of Tarifa will be improved
The design of Baleària’s ships is similar to its two other natural-gas-powered fast ferries
the Eleanor Roosevelt and the Margarita Salas (also built in Armon)
but optimized for the ports of Tarifa and Tangier Ville
a capacity for 804 passengers and 225 cars
The catamarans will also be highly maneuverable thanks to bridge ailerons
They will also have two high-capacity stern ramps to optimize operations and maneuvers in port
Baleària’s fleet strategy is based on eco-efficient smart ships. The ferry operator is working on projects linked to the energies of the future with a view to the goal of zero emissions by 2050
The shipping company has a fleet of 11 gas-powered ships and is one of the pioneers in the use of electric energy: since 2023 it has welcomed two electric propulsion ships in its fleet
the first electric passenger and cargo ferry in Spain with zero emissions on approaches and stays in port

President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that he will impose a 50% tariff on Canadian steel and aluminum
Trump argued that this decision was made after the province of Ontario
entities that import electricity a tax surcharge of approximately 25 percent
“I have instructed my Secretary of Commerce to add an ADDITIONAL 25% Tariff, to 50%, on all STEEL and ALUMINUM COMING INTO THE UNITED STATES FROM CANADA, ONE OF THE HIGHEST TARIFFING NATIONS ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD,” Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social
“This will go into effect TOMORROW MORNING

Checking account fees may be charged by banks when customers make certain transactions or fail to maintain a set minimum balance
but fortunately many of them are also avoidable
Checking account fees to watch out for include overdraft fees
Here we’ll take a look at these fees in more depth
including the average amount banks charge for each and the best ways to avoid having to pay them
Overdraft fees and nonsufficient funds (NSF) fees can be some of the most expensive bank fees
Overdraft fees may be charged by a bank when it temporarily covers transactions that overdraw your account
NSF fees may be imposed when the bank denies payments or the cashing of checks that would result in a negative balance
according to Bankrate’s 2024 Checking and ATM fee study
while overdraft fees experienced a slight uptick
Despite pressure from consumer advocates to curb overdraft fees
they’re still imposed at 94 percent of bank accounts
Here are some ways to avoid overdraft and NSF fees:
Using an ATM outside of your bank’s network could cost you both a surcharge from the owner of the ATM and a fee from your own financial institution
The average total cost for using an out-of-network ATM is now $4.77 according to Bankrate’s latest study — the highest in the study’s history since 1998
To avoid ATM fees
a bank will waive this fee if you keep at least a set minimum balance in your account
Among noninterest checking accounts that charge this fee
Nearly half (47 percent) of noninterest checking accounts don’t have a monthly maintenance fee
Here are some ways to avoid monthly service fees:
Fees tend to rise just like the cost of other goods and services
a bank may try to generate revenue through fee increases — especially in a low-rate environment
“Volatile interest rates in the past two decades have led banks to a greater reliance on fee income which can be more stable than interest income from lending,” says Greg McBride
“Entire business lines such as wealth management can provide a steady stream of non-interest income for financial institutions
and increasing ATM fees are examples that checking account customers may confront.”
The best checking accounts don’t charge maintenance fees and or require a minimum balance
93 percent of noninterest checking accounts either don’t charge a fee or have one that’s easy to avoid
such as by meeting a direct deposit requirement
Having a checking account that charges you absolutely no fees is often possible
especially when you know what it takes to avoid charges for account maintenance

The two electric marine vessels’ 11,500 kWh capacity will allow them to make the entire voyage between Morocco and Spain (18 miles
Baleària was awarded the route last December by the Algeciras Bay Port Authority (APBA) to operate the Tarifa-Tangier Ville line for the next 15 years
The port authority prioritized sustainable technology when awarding the line
“This is a pioneering and technologically advanced public-private project that will enable us
to run the entire route using only electric energy and
zero emissions.” He added further that the port authority had laid the foundations of the project
the electric ferries will be charged at their one-hour stopovers at both ports
The charging systems at each port are to be backed by 5 MW battery systems in Tarifa and 8 MW in Tangier
The charging at each port will involve autonomous robotic arms that are connected to the ferries through their onshore power system connections (OPS)
Utor explained that this system will allow the vessels to recharge in just 40 minutes
The docks’ electrification will involve an investment of €62 million in OPS projects in Tarifa and Algeciras
also said that improvements will be made to the land access to the Port of Tarifa
the battery systems employed in both the vessels and their onshore charging systems will add up to 39 MWh gross
Andalusia’s Minister of Tourism and External Affairs
praised Baleària and the port authority’s commitment to pioneering a route that expects some four million passengers
The project is a pioneer involving private and state investment
Baleària president Utor said that it was a very deliberate goal to“turn the Tarifa-Tangier Ville route into a talent-attraction pole
a focus of development opportunities and a catalyst for the local economy and employment.”

This week Celebrity Chef from Ready Steady Cook & Fellow Master Chef Steven Saunders
proprietor of The Little Geranium in La Cala makes a stunning dish using new season Tuna from the Costa de la Luz
It was great eating some of the world’s best and freshest tuna
meeting top chefs and restaurateurs from around the world
sherry tasting and pairing wines to the tuna along with street parades
exciting experience even though it will have been muted this year
it can be a bit controversial as many people are angry about the traditional fishing methods used called Almadraba (it is Arabic for place of fighting)
Now Michele and I love animals and we go to a lot of trouble to buy naturally farmed meats
not pumped with steroids and antibiotics and we do not buy farmed fish
who get upset about tuna fishing that I know of
are the sort that eats cheap chicken packed with chemicals
They also choose to eat intensively farmed beef as it is cheap but it is harmful to you in the long run
Michele and I avoid buying cheap farmed meat or fish which is why I can’t and won’t compete with cheap restaurant pricing
We like to buy the best of everything including seasonal wild fish like the Bluefin Tuna from this beautiful region in Spain
I spoke with the EU Fisheries department about this to try and clear things up
“The traditional fishing method called almadraba is one of the oldest recorded fishing systems
The almadrabas catch tuna as they swim across the Gibraltar Strait
the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea when they go to spawn
These traps catch the tuna when they are moving towards the Atlantic Ocean
The basis of this fishing method is that the schools of tuna
upon encountering the nets do not try to go through them
finally trapping themselves inside the final chamber
“The fishing season for the ‘paso almadraba’ traps begins in the spring and ends at the start of summer
and the season for the ‘retorno’ (the return) almadrabas begins at the end of summer and ends in the autumn
The long story of the almadraba traps has given us a series of data that is of important scientific value.”
“The almadraba technique used for Atlantic Bluefin Tuna fishing is respectful to the environment and to resources
due to several characteristic factors of this fishing system including seasonality
low energy consumption because of its working system
there is a limited stay time for the tuna within the structure of the almadraba.”
“It creates a very reduced ‘bycatch’ because the structure uses large mesh nets
and so a high percentage of the caught tuna are adult specimens that have already bred and have spawned on several occasions
and the size and flexibility of the nets mean that there is no damage to the cetacean or dolphin populations and it doesn’t have any influence on the local hydrological dynamics.”
faced with this information from The European Fishing Policy department I am happy to buy it and happy that you enjoy this premium product which is on my menu right now
Our tasting menus are becoming more and more popular and most nights this tuna dish is highlighted as one of the best tasting courses by our clients
this week I am sharing the recipe with you

The scenic coastal town of Tarifa in southern Spain has been tackling the ongoing environmental emergency caused by the invasive Asian seaweed Rugulopteryx okamurae
the algae have wreaked havoc on marine ecosystems and strained municipal resources
the town has launched an innovative project to turn this environmental menace into a sustainable and money-making opportunity
Tarifa’s coasts have seen an alarming increase in seaweed, with over 40,000 tonnes of algae accumulated in 2024 alone, quadrupling the previous year’s figures, according to a report by Sotogrande Plus. This invasion has not only disrupted marine biodiversity but also impacted heritage fishing and tourism
Municipal efforts to clean up the algae have been costly
The Ministry for Ecological Transition categorises the seaweed as “urban solid waste,” leaving local governments responsible for its removal without providing additional funding
With cleanup costs reaching €5 million annually
In collaboration with Poplac Development and Futuralga
Tarifa is piloting a €1 million bioreactor project to convert the seaweed into biogas and biofertilisers
The bioreactor processes 15,000 tonnes of algae annually
creating enough energy to power a quarter of a megawatt and repurposing leftover material into fertilisers for agricultural use
This circular economy model not only reduces methane emissions but also offers an environmentally friendly alternative to landfill disposal
Similar initiatives have succeeded in Mexico
inspiring hope for Tarifa’s project to set a benchmark for sustainable coastal management
Local startups are exploring other uses for the algae
is developing biodegradable packaging from seaweed waste
This innovative solution has already won multiple awards and is part of a broader push for a circular economy
Other proposals include utilising the algae in cosmetics
Tarifa’s municipal leaders stress that the current initiatives alone cannot handle the sheer scale of the seaweed problem
Mayor José Antonio Santos has called on regional and national governments for financial and logistical support
the Cadiz Provincial Council allocated €140,000 in emergency funds
but this fell short of the resources needed to manage the crisis at length
Tarifa’s initiatives could pave the way for other coastal communities in Europe to adopt similar procedures

Wedged in between the old town and the seafront is Tarifa’s 10th-century Castillo de Guzmán El Bueno. This sturdy castle served to defend Tarifa from Christian invaders until 1292
when King Sancho IV captured it from the Moors
It takes its name from Alonso Perez de Guzmán
a military leader who successfully fended off a Moorish siege in 1294

Wander around the old town Wandering up past the Guzmán Castle’s forbidding walls, you soon come to Tarifa’s oldest quarter
Set aside a couple of hours for wandering within this maze of pretty alleyways and shabby-chic squares
making sure you don’t miss the Plaza de Santa Maria
You’ll quickly discover the reason why it’s known locally as Plaza de la Ranita (Litte Frog Square)
Visit the Castillo de Santa Catalina Less well known than the Guzmán castle but still worth checking out is the Castillo de Santa Catalina. It was built as a watchtower in the early 1930s, but sustained so much damage during the Spanish Civil War of 1936–39 that it was abandoned for the best part of half a decade
The Puerta de Jerez is the only one of four medieval gateways to Tarifa still standing
while others date its construction to the 1200s
Above its Moorish-style arched entrance is a plaque remembering September 21
1292 – the date when King Sancho IV took Tarifa from the Moors

Chill on Playa de Los Lances Located just north of Tarifa, Playa de Los Lances is one of Andalusia’s most beautiful beaches
Its golden sands stretch northwards for 10 kilometres
backing onto the lush cork oak forests of the Los Alcornocales Natural Park
The perfect spot for a morning or afternoon’s sunbathing
broken up by visits to the cool chiringuitos that stud its length
The remnants of Baelo Claudia that are found 23 kilometres (14 miles) north of Tarifa are some of Andalusia’s best-preserved Roman ruins
This once-prosperous fishing village was founded in the second century BC
and survived multiple earthquakes before being abandoned in the 6th century AD; impressively-conserved are the fish-salting facilities and the temples
Go Surfing Thanks to the two strong winds that shape Tarifa’s climate – the Poniente from the west and the Levante from the east – the town has become one of Europe’s most popular surfing destinations
to rent or buy gear and to book yourself onto some board
Go Trekking There’s some spectacular trekking to be enjoyed near Tarifa
as the town is situated between two natural parks
the Parque Natural del Estrecho and the Parque Natural de Alcornocales
The first runs alongside the south coast and offers tracks with views of the Moroccan coast
while in Alcornocales you can hike in the Iberian Peninsula’s largest cork oak forest
Tarifa’s popularity with surfers lends it a bohemian vibe all of its own
Experience it to the full by soaking up the town’s nightlife (be prepared for a late night)
The old town is the place to be: head to El Lola – a locals’ favourite – for early-evening tapas
before moving on to a sleek cocktail bar such as Almedina
which is carved into the medieval city wall
Occupying as it does the southernmost tip of Continental Europe
Tarifa is only a 35-minute ferry ride from Tangier
making the latter ideal for a day-trip destination
this Moroccan city became legendary throughout the 19th and 20th centuries as a hotspot for international espionage
Key attractions include the Grand Mosque and the walled old town (medina)

Eneda Tarifa will not be part of the next TV season of the comedy program
Through an announcement on social networks
"I have to inform you that my journey in the show 'Portokalli' ends here
I returned to that scene with longing when it was proposed to me by the directors and in a way 'I took out the goods ...' when they say a word to him
But it is the moment to bring my projects to life without being 'sold' and without being 'bought' by anyone (as it is written in some portals) and I continue to give my artistic contribution in this country
Why sudden departure? Because in an interview for Class Magazine published on February 14
when asked about the next season of "Portokalli"
"They say that it does not work well for you to return to the same job after you left once
so that each of us can do and find a part of the home he has left
the joy and happiness of a large family - like Orange - keeps you alive
She was also asked about the second season of "Orange"
for which she said that "we have started work"
we start work and are thinking about all the possibilities we have to create new characters
I believe I will be able to reappear some new character
inspired by everyday life and by characters we see every day in our lives
One character that has had a lot of success has been Eni Vasili
but unfortunately it was only done once by me
[...] But I predict that with the discipline that every actor has in there
The fee was returned to "Portokalli" in September 2020
this was not an unknown experience as she has been part of "Portokalli" for 6 years in a row
it is still unclear what caused her sudden departure
Created by
Brad Cox is of the mindset that
"Post positions," the Louisville-born trainer said
a descendant of two-time Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Tiznow
enters the race having won all three of her starts this year; the most recent being the Fair Grounds Oaks (Grade 2) on March 23
She's drawn everywhere from on the rail in a six-horse field to the far outside in a seven-horse field
clean trip," Cox said after Saturday's draw
"I think she's going to like the mile and an eighth."
If jockey Flavien Prat can deliver
the history Tarifa will achieve with a win cannot be understated
LLC would become just the fourth owner to notch back-to-back victories in the 1 1/8-mile race for 3-year-old fillies since its inception in 1875
That's just one of the story lines to keep an eye on as we get closer to post time
Trainer D. Wayne Lukas is trying to reach the winner's circle in the Oaks for a sixth time; breaking a tie with a fellow Hall of Famer
Lukas' horse, Lemon Muffin (30-1)
6 post with jockey Keith Asmussen making his Oaks debut
"The draw doesn't have any bearing on her that I thought would be a plus or a minus," Lukas said
kind of tipping her hand; so we'll need her over there with a lot of confidence."
Lemon Muffin has one win and one second-place finish thus far in 2024
She and Asmussen are coming off a seventh-place finish in the Fantasy Stakes (Grade 2) on March 30 at Oaklawn Park
Lukas shared Cox's sentiment about post positions being a tad overhyped
What he cares about most is not where his horse starts; rather
Yet again, that's jockey Brian Hernandez Jr. aboard Thorpedo Anna (5-1)
They won the Fantasy Stakes starting out of the No
called her morning-line odds "a fair number."
"I was second in the Oaks a few years back with Daddys Lil Darling; and she drew the 14," McPeek said
"She wins the race if she doesn't draw 14."
The 14th post is where Leslie's Rose (4-1) will start with jockey Irad Ortiz Jr.
the winningest rider in North America for seven years running
Pletcher wasn't too thrilled about the spot
"We got two of the worst three," he said; referring to Candied
No. 14 worked out well for last year's winners
Pretty Mischievous and jockey Tyler Gaffalione
This year, Gaffalione will start three spots to the inside — in the No. 11 post with Ways and Means (5-1)
If he wins aboard the Chad Brown-trained filly
he'll become the first rider since Eddie Arcaro (1951-53) to do so in consecutive years
saying he "should have plenty of options to just choose his spot if he wants to go on or be just off the lead."
He said he chose the 29-year-old Florida native to jockey Ways and Means
for whom the Oaks will be just her fourth career start
because of his recent success at Churchill
Gaffalione earned his 11th career leading-rider title at the track during last year's Fall Meet
"He knows every inch of the track," Brown said

The well-known singer Eneda Tarifa has shared details about her relationship with her partner
While she was invited to the "Rudina" show
is also the author of the lyrics of her last song participating in "Magic Song," which is titled "Më forte."
the singer said that the relationship between them has been strengthened by the similarities in their lives
"We have more or less similar stories in some points of our chronological history that we have in common
joyful and accomplished a person may seem in life
he has definitely gone through his own difficulties in this sense and in this sense… all of us,” she said
confessing that it all started from a chance meeting at a mutual friend's club
the details of which they want to keep the public a surprise
To celebrate the release of the incredible sophomore LP
the unique creative offers exclusive insight into each individual cut
With a sonic guise that lifts him beyond his contemporaries into a musical orifice only inhabited by himself
The well-travelled Brit draws inspirations from his discovery and infatuation with Latin American and Andalusian folk music
and with his newly released sophomore album
explores his artistic progression in the most refined and expressive way to date
sprinkling in electronic tendencies into his sublime folk style
with personal lyricism scattered across vast yet intimate soundscapes
drawing its listener into a reflective and vivid world
the artist offered us some exclusive insight into Tarifa
explaining the thought and process behind each individual cut
The song questions whether we are alone in the universe
I had always assumed that there must be other life out there
but that conviction was shaken after reading the ‘rare earth hypothesis’ and watching some lectures about the possibility of life on earth being unique
the fact that that was a possibility at all terrified me and made me think a lot
It also interested me that songwriting could reflect our current state of knowledge and the questions we have about reality
“Giordano’s Dream” refers to Giordano Bruno who was burnt alive by the Church in medieval Europe for suggesting that the stars in the night sky might be other suns with planets of their own
The whole section was reinvented later after a recording session with drum legend Sebastian Rochford
He unexpectedly improvised over the ambient track I had made on his first take through the song
and I was completely blown away by what he added
I ended up chopping up the drum solo into a kind of usable loop
which is what you hear in the final master
The song grapples with rejection in the lyrics
and the ensuing battle between acceptance and denial that can follow it
When you go through moments like these in life
they can dominate your daily thoughts and it becomes impossible not to write about them if you are working on music
Rhythmically the unusual time signatures of 11/4 and 10/4 are what drew me to the musical idea in the first place
I think they give the song a lightness and wandering feeling that never quite resolves
I wanted “Tarifa” to try and capture all the joy I was feeling at being there
It was also written as an invitation after meeting someone new
so it’s meant to feel very open and hopeful
In that way it felt like a reflection on a time where I was just beginning to open myself up again after a break up
getting lost in the excitement that comes with new connection
I also wanted to try and distil some of the energy of Tarifa as a place into the song
It’s the southern most point of mainland Spain
only 5 miles from Africa and is famous for being very windy
either levante coming from the Mediterranean
There was a lot of wind throughout my stay and that constant presence of energy and movement around the house definitely left its mark on the music and on this song in particular
Pilo Adami who co-produced the song with me came out for the last week of the writing trip and helped me finalise my ideas
We tracked the final percussion in an amazing music studio in Punta Paloma run by José María Sagrista
It’s an incredible space right next to the beach with views across the straits to Morocco; it was brilliant that we were able to get drums and percussion recorded in such a remote place
Back in London I teamed up with Nathan Jenkins (Bullion) to add some final details to the arrangement and production
adding some extra synths and a chorus of hums in the first verse that had felt a bit bare up to that point
The song continued to evolve piece by piece in that time
making small changes to things like the bass line all the way up to the mixing stage until I couldn’t hear anything I wanted to fix or change anymore
Green Eyes reflects on obsession and heart break in the lyrics
Although it’s mournful in that sense
I wanted there to be a feeling of mysticism and hope in the minimalism of the arrangement
Whenever I tried to add elements like more percussion
it felt like they were clouding the impact of the song
staying true to the initial day of writing with Oscar
bassline and a sketch of the drum groove which we then recorded for real at Hoxa HQ in north London with Sebastian Rochford on the drums
His performance was fantastic and he brought his beautiful kit to the studio which paired very well with the track
Pilo Adami and I then set about developing the beat from there
adding textures and details to fill out the groove
I also did some work with Nathan Jenkins (Bullion) on this track which was a lot of fun
adding some quirky synths and tape delays to the production
Lyrically the track changed and evolved over time
but the lyric ‘Silver Beaches’ appeared early on
I was imagining a dream like space of a beach at night
That surrealist image fed into the production and identity of the song
and I always felt I was picturing somewhere on a planet different to Earth
In the lyrics I was imagining what it might be like to be reunited at the very end of your life with someone you had lost along the way
the song is joyous and describes a meeting where both people might share in the happiness of each other’s memories in the form of a final goodbye
and also to the Earth as the garden we share
Music is perhaps our greatest universal language
and sometimes when writing I feel a deep connection with the human story that is harder to access in everyday life
Working on this song put me in touch with those feelings
so I wanted to include that sentiment of human solidarity and connection in the final few lines
