A man was shot to death on Sunday at 6:30 am when leaving a nightclub in Terrassa, on the outskirts of Barcelona, as first reported by El Caso and confirmed by the Catalan News Agency (ACN).
Catalan Mossos d'Esquadra police were informed around 6:30 am of the shooting outside the Chicago Latino nightclub on Tàrrega street on the Can Petit industrial estate.
Based on the first reports, several perpetrators in a car opened fire on the victim with at least five shots and then fled the scene.
The police's criminal unit is investigating the event while trying to locate the vehicle and the perpetrators of the fatal shooting in the Vallès Occidental county.
Hours after the first event, Mossos d'Esquadra opened an investigation into another gun attack that left one person injured in Terrassa.
Police are working on the hypothesis that both gun attacks are related after being warned at 3 pm of a shooting on Historiador Cardús street.
Mossos and local law enforcement agents on the scene found an injured person on the foot who was moved to the hospital.
The investigation is ongoing and agents are looking for the perpetrator, or perpetrators, who had fled the scene.

The new headquarters of Prodis, an organization devoted to assisting and promoting adults with intellectual disabilities, is located in old industrial buildings of Filatures Matarí, within the Vapor Cortès complex, in Terrassa’s Ca n’Aurell neighborhood.
With a built area of 3,842 square meters, the complex in the shape of a comb (warehouse-street-warehouse) presents a perimetral structure of loadbearing walls of ceramic brick, following a regular rhythm of pilasters and openings every 3 meters. The 12-meter span of the buildings is resolved through timber trusses that keep up the same rhythm as the pilasters. The roof is defined by the traditional structure of wooden straps and battens topped with Arabic tiles.
The first step was recovering of the street between the two naves. The floor slabs and the roof of the central volume were eliminated, maintaining the facades and the beams. To connect the two ends of the passage and resolve the grade difference, a terracing or stairway appears in the final section, thus also giving access to the complementary programs on the lower level.
The project creates a characteristic intricate texture of wooden slats of differing dimensions. The new beams, closed boxes, and skylights continue the wood-wood overlap of the room’s constructive system.

JACKSONVILLE, FL - Thompson Thrift, a full-service nationally recognized real estate company and one of the nation's leading multifamily developers, announced the development of Terrassa, a 324-unit Class A multifamily community located in the growing market of St. Augustine in St. Johns County. The company expects to begin construction in July, with completion expected in fall 2026.
"St. Johns County is one of the most desirable counties to live in Florida, and is renowned for its excellent schools, strong income levels and impressive home values," said Josh Purvis, managing partner for Thompson Thrift Residential. "Securing approval for new developments is becoming increasingly challenging, but our team's proven track record and commitment to excellence have allowed us to secure a prime spot in this highly desirable county."
Terrassa is part of the redevelopment of the former St. Augustine Outlets property off I-95 and will provide 324 one-, two- and three-bedroom apartment homes offering up to nearly 1,400 square feet of living space. Residents will have convenient access to the area's pristine beaches as well as a variety of local entertainment, shopping and dining options.
Like all Thompson Thrift communities, Terrassa will feature superior, in-demand amenities that demonstrate the company's dedication to quality. Kitchens will include stainless steel appliances, a smooth glass-top range, side-by-side refrigerator, tile backsplashes, a pantry and hardwood-style flooring. Large walk-in closets, bathrooms with a walk-in shower, detached garages, a full-size washer and dryer and private patio, balcony or yard options add to the list of features.
Additionally, certain upgraded homes will feature accent-colored island cabinetry, premium quartz countertops, a dry bar, under-cabinet lighting and deluxe closet systems with shelving.
High-speed internet access will ensure seamless connectivity for residents while energy-efficient LED lighting and a smart thermostat will help residents save on energy costs. Smart light switches and door locks will provide convenience with an Alexa-compatible smart hub to easily control the devices.
Community amenities will include a 24-hour fully equipped fitness center, a resort-style swimming pool, courtyards, community grilling areas, a pickleball court, an on-site dog park and pet spa with a grooming station. The 24-hour social hub will feature billiards, a coffee bar, private focus rooms and work area with a printing station.
St. Augustine is the oldest city in the United States and maintains a strong Mediterranean architectural influence. The name Terrassa comes from a city in Spain, and Thompson Thrift has taken care to incorporate Mediterranean accents in its design to further connect with the community.
Brian Timberman, president of Thompson Thrift Construction, added, "We are excited to break ground on another Thompson Thrift community, and our construction team looks forward to seeing this project through to on time completion."
St. Johns County is the wealthiest county in Florida and one of the fastest-growing counties both in Florida and the United States. The county's population grew 40% during the past decade and is expected to add 100,000 residents by 2030. The Terrassa site is located in a very high-growth pocket of the county and will offer easy access to major employers such as Bank of America/Merrill Lynch, Saddle Creek Logistics, the St. Johns County School District, Citi and Florida Blue.

Catalan bakeries expect to sell around 800,00 'Mones de Pasqua', the traditional Catalan Easter cakes, this year, similar to last year’s prediction.
Easter Monday in Catalonia is the day when godparents buy special cakes for their Godchildren, usually featuring a decorative chocolate figurine on top of the sponge cake.
This year, Lamine Yamal and Aitana Bonmatí from the men’s and women’s FC Barcelona teams are among the most popular themes for the ‘Mones de Pasqua’.
“Barça’s female team is thriving, and have for years, so Aitana Bonmatí and Alexia Putellas are in demand,” says the president of the Catalan Bakers’ Guild, Miquel Zaguirre, to Catalan News.
The athletes face stiff competition from Dragon Ball’s Goku, whose creator, Akira Toriyama, died last year. The Catalan national broadcaster 3Cat has been showing reruns of the series, which has boosted its popularity even further.
Other popular themes this year include Bluey from the animated series and characters from Disney’s Moana and Lilo & Stitch.
Another popular character for this year’s ‘Mones de Pasqua’ is the character Mia the Archeologist.
“Mia is the fruit of a collaboration between the University of Barcelona and the Bakers’ Guild,” explains Zaguirre, adding that “this year is her third year, and the initiative was made to spark scientific curiosity in kids.”
Cake-wise, this year’s most popular Mones de Pasqua are the traditional sponge cakes with either candied fruit topping or buttercream and frosting.
“We make buttercream, which has a very characteristic taste, and we also make ‘mones’ with cream and with chocolate truffles,” says Zaguirre, adding that Sacher cakes or the ‘Sara cake,’ which has buttercream and is covered with almonds, are also in demand.
Zaguirre also emphasized that bakers have made efforts to maintain the prices of ‘mones’ from rising, despite the ongoing increase in the cost of raw materials such as sugar and cocoa.
The average family is set to spend around €35 on a ‘mona’ this year, whether it is a chocolate figure or a cake.
Vapor Cortès comprises industrial buildings that were once part of Vapor Marqués
a site characterized by its ceramic brick load-bearing walls
the complex underwent numerous modifications
creating a layered history of transformations
HARQUITECTES sought to retain the urban and industrial identity of the site while adapting it for Prodis
an organization that supports individuals with disabilities

Central to HARQUITECTES’ Rehabilitation of Vapor Cortès is the recovery of the original service street between the two main buildings. The architects transformed this space into a public passage
to integrate the facility with the surrounding urban fabric
this central axis organizes circulation within the center while fostering interaction between Prodis users and the broader community
The central body of the passage retains its external facades and transverse beams while removing the roof and floors
This selective demolition preserves the industrial character and historical layers of the structure while inviting natural light and airflow
By maintaining the architectural ‘wounds’ and structural marks
the project emphasizes the building’s history and identity
The two main naves house spaces for Prodis’s diverse activities
tailored to users’ varying abilities
the spaces are organized around the structural rhythm of the trusses
with new perpendicular beams reinforcing the existing structure
This bidirectional system allows for a hierarchy of spaces while maintaining the original industrial logic
the project by HARQUITECTES rehabilitates the Vapor Cortès complex in Terrassa
To reinforce and subdivide the expansive interiors
new structural interventions in wood complement the original construction
These new beams and skylights follow the same material logic
Skylights bring natural light into the main spaces
emphasizing their uses while creating an inviting atmosphere
The rehabilitated roof maintains the appearance of Arabic tiles while incorporating modern insulation for energy efficiency
Facades were insulated with exposed ceramic wall panels
preserving the building’s historical rhythm
Trombe walls and passive design strategies
including natural ventilation and solar protections
the design preserves the industrial character with ceramic brick walls and wooden trusses
While the scale of the buildings reflects their industrial origins
the sequence of linked spaces and natural light creates moments of intimacy and focus
The architecture supports Prodis’s mission to foster meaningful social connections by providing spaces that blend utility with emotional and existential dimensions
HARQUITECTES’s approach to the Rehabilitation of Vapor Cortès celebrates the site’s imperfections and accumulated history
By removing coverings and recovering original openings
the architects expose the structure’s layered heritage and ‘transhistorical’ character
The result is a thoughtful balance between preservation and contemporary function
making the site a vibrant part of the city’s fabric while honoring its past
a central pedestrian street replaces the built-over service street to connect spaces and the city
selective demolition creates an open-air passage
retaining the original structure’s history
new beams and skylights enhance functionality while respecting the original architecture
the roof is updated with lighter materials for thermal insulation and acoustic absorption
spaces are reorganized with structural reinforcements to create diverse functional zones

'Els Minyons de Terrassa,' one of the most important groups performing Catalonia's human towers
in reference to the color of their shirts when doing the castells
over 200 team members are performing in Croatia and Bosnia Herzegovina to mark the 32nd anniversary of the Yugoslavian war
The first castell rose on Saturday in Dubrovnik's old town after a small parade that saw the 'malves' managed to construct a seven-tier tower with three people in each
The Minyons de Terrassa also managed to construct two pillars of 4 and 5 tiers
and then a 'tres de vuit' and the 'quatre de vuit,' two other towers with eight tiers in total
All of the performances took place in front of several European foreign ministers and ambassadors
there will be a double performance in Sarajevo
Catalonia's 'castells' were declared an intangible heritage of humanity by UNESCO in 2010
Large 'colles' form tiers of differing numbers of people standing on the shoulders of those below them.
Built to the sound of 'gralla' flutes and drums
human towers are only complete once a helmet-donning child called the 'enxaneta' ascends to the very top of the structure and raises their arm
"Doing 'castells' has been a popular activity for more than 200 years and they are always associated with traditional celebrations such as ('festa major') village fairs," Ignasi Escamilla
of the Catalan human tower groups association
'castells' are more than just a thing of beauty: "They are a good example of an ideal society
It's the achievement of common goals obtained thanks to the cooperation of different team members."

The Minyons of Terrassa 'castellers' human towers group topped off the city's celebratory day for the tradition with a '5 of 9' human tower with lining, which unfortunately for the group they were not able to unload.
The group first worked hard at forming a '3 of 10' tower with lining, 25 years after doing it for the first time. Yet, this weekend's meeting was difficult to finish off right from the start.
The Castellers de Sants group registered their finest performance since the return to competition after the Covid pandemic. The Sants group recorded a '4 of 9', a '7 of 8' and a '3 of 8'.
Finally, the Castellers de Sant Cugat had an impressive showing on Sunday, registering a '3 of 8', a '4 of 8' and a '2 of 7'.
Sat Cugat's last tower, the '2 of 7', was erected very quickly and agilely despite its technical difficulty.
Terrassa said, “I first came to art museums looking to learn how other artists made things, never imagining that I would find myself, years later, leading the educational vision of one of the most important art museums in the world.”
In addition to discussing the importance of art education during her Art Insights presentation, Terrassa will also talk about the ways in which training in studio art influenced her as a leader and educator and her practice as an art museum educator in relation to the value that art museums bring to society.
Art Insights is hosted during the fall and spring semesters by SUU’s Art & Design faculty. Students and community members meet to experience presentations and discussions by visiting artists and art educators from around the nation who share their work and insights.

RCD Espanyol B drew 2-2 at home with Terrassa FC on Sunday.
Manolo González’s side hosted their Catalan rivals at the Ciutat Esportiva Dani Jarque with the intention of building on their six-game unbeaten run. Antoniu Roca put Espanyol ahead in the 24th minute after bringing down the ball and finishing it off with a volley on the turn for the opening goal.
When it seemed that the hosts were heading into the break with a narrow lead, Terrassa equalised with a cross shot from Jordi Cano. After the break, Marc Jurado had a guilt-edged chance to restore their lead, but his effort was in vain and the team’s failure to capitalised allowed Terrassa to score their second and turn the game in their favour.
Coach González made offensive changes to salvage something from the game, bringing on Armand and David Pecellín with seven minutes of normal time to play. And it was Armand who made the difference, driving down the wing and burying it across goal and into the bottom corner in the 91st minute.
They could not get the win, but a hard-fought point was enough for Espanyol to extend their unbeaten run and keep the positive momentum going in the Segunda RFEF.

While Jadran (CRO) and OSC (HUN) have virtually passed the test already during the first leg
regular F8 participant Brescia (ITA) earned only a single-goal advantage against Kazan (RUS)
Terrassa (ESP) staged a 4-0 rush at the end to win by three over Oradea (ROU)
Jadran Split (CRO) v Team Strasbourg (FRA) 13-5
AN Brescia (ITA) v Sintez Kazan (RUS) 13-12
CN Terrassa (ESP) v DiGi Oradea (ROU) 10-7
OSC Budapest (HUN) v Vouliagmeni (GRE) 11-3
Jadran is set to return to the main round and OSC is also on its way back after having spent last year in the Euro Cup
Both sides hammered their respective opponents by eight goals
The Croats opened the game against Strasbourg with a 5-1 rush
then after two balanced periods they copied that thrashing to double the gap and put themselves into comfort
the Hungarians geared up once more while their defense was simply brilliant
They shut out the Greeks for 23:47 minutes as they jumped from 1-1 to 9-1 and left no room for their rivals to think of a comeback
playing in the last three editions of the finals
faces a mountain to climb as the Italians could only gain a single-goal advantage against Sintez
For a while the game looked to go as expected as Brescia led 5-2 early in the second but soon the Russians hit back and from that point it was a neck-to-neck battle
Brescia was still two up in the third but before the last period it was tied at 9-9 and Sintez even took the lead twice in the fourth
Two action goals in 28 seconds brought the hosts back to life but they will have some tough times in Kazan next Wednesday
Terrassa’s chances look definitely better thanks to the Spaniards’ late surge
For most of the time Oradea controlled the game
led 3-5 in the third and was still in front at 6-7 with 3:29 to go
Then came a Spanish double in 47 seconds and after the Romanians missed a crucial man-up
the hosts could add two more inside the last minute to turn the match with a 4-0 run at the end
winners of the duels will advance to the main round
the losing teams will continue in the Euro Cup quarter-finals

Apollon Smyrnis managed to gain a single-goal advantage in the first leg of the Challenger Cup final
The Greek side could build a three-goal gap in the fourth period
but Spain’s Terrassa fought themselves back at the end
1st leg: Apollon Smyrnis (GRE) v CN Terrassa (ESP) 12-11
The first leg of the final in the inaugural edition of the Challenger Cup offered a thrilling encounter between the two best sides of the series
Terrassa arrived at Greece unbeaten but their run came to an end on Wednesday evening – still
they were probably the happier squad after a brave comeback at the end
The hosts jumped to a 3-1 lead early in the first period and still held on for 5-3 before Terrassa hit back
two man-up goals in 62 seconds brought them to level and after a late exchange of goals the score was tied at halftime at 6-6
The first twist came in the third when the Spaniards went ahead for the first time as Adrian Delgado netted a fine action goal for 7-8
but Nikola Bogdanovic equalised immediately
then Nikolaos Gardikas hit a double in the last 72 seconds to make it 10-8 before the final quarter
but the home side missed a crucial man-up after a time-out
Jordi Chico finished off the following action for 11-9 to end Terrassa’s seven-minute long drought
Gardikas was on fire and also netted his fourth from action 22 seconds later
With three goals up and 4:30 to go all looked bright for the Greeks – however
to the horror of the enthusiastic home crowd
they were unable to add any more in that remaining time while Terrassa managed to cut the gap to a single goal with two fine action shots
not long after another missed 6 on 5 by Apollon – and these were the small but crucial details which may have an impact on the outcome of the title clash
That is due in 10 days’ time in Spain – a must-watch match for all water polo lovers

March 02nd, 2023 Water Polo
Both Tenerife and Terrassa claimed wins at home
though both were narrow against Apollon Smyrnis and Enka Istanbul respectively
It’s yet to be seen if LEN’s new club competition’s historical first final will feature two Spanish sides
1st leg: Tenerife Echeyde (ESP) v Apollon Smyrnis (GRE) 11-10
CN Terrassa (ESP) v Enka Istanbul (TUR) 15-12
Apollon stunned Tenerife in the opening period while gaining a 0-3 lead
and soon in the second they came back to even at 4-4
for long they were unable to really turn the game – they went ahead three times in the third
but the Greeks levelled the score again and again
Only Marc Salvador’s last-gasp goal was left without answer
so the hosts led 8-7 before the last period
Victor Alegre finally doubled Tenerife’s lead for 9-7
but Nikolaos Gardikas pulled one back soon
he managed to equalise with his 5th hit in the evening
then 10 seconds from time they forced a penalty
Albert Espanol – MVP of the 2014 Champions League Final Six – buried it to give his side at least a single-goal lead for the return leg
Terrassa staged a kickstart to the game against Enka and stormed to a 5-0 lead in five minutes
Perhaps even the home players thought that this would as easy as many had thought beforehand – and early in the second
the game seemed to turn into another lopsided contest
thanks to a 6-goal haul in the second quarter
The Spaniards couldn’t regain their confidence and Enka came closer and closer
Nesfet Ozbek had a brilliant spell in the third
and with one period remaining only a single goal separated the teams at 11-10
Enka’s veteran Croatian Olympic champ Paolo Obradovic netted an extra in the fourth to make it 11-11
and even though the Turkish pulled one back from a penalty
Enka missed a crucial man-up and 38 seconds from time Victor Flores netted his fifth
and this action goal may worth a lot at the end as it secured a three-goal advantage for the second leg

Terrassa Spain: Ireland made history today beating New Zealand for the first time and putting themselves only 60 minutes away from a place in the 2024-25 FIH Pro League
They also finally lifted their semi-finals hoodoo
New Zealand went into this match on 9 previous occasions
For Ireland all that mattered was a place in tomorrow’s FIH Women’s Nations Cup Final
New Zealand took the lead in 35th minute when Rose Tynan had a shot twice blocked by Liz Murphy but forced the third one over the line 1-0 New Zealand
Ireland drew level in the 39th minute when Sarah Hawkshaw converted a penalty corner
It stayed that way until the end of the 3rd quarter
Sarah Hawkshaw struck again in the 51st minute to give Ireland a 2-1 lead
And that gave Ireland their place in tomorrow’s FIH Nations Cup Final against the winners of the later semi-final between Chile and the hosts
Both sides forced two penalty corners and created numerous chances
Neither could carve out a definite clear-cut opportunity
Liz Murphy and Brooke Roberts were both effective at keeping the opening quarter scoreless and it was no surprise when it was scoreless at half-time
Things changed in the third quarter as the deadlock was finally broken and when the goal came it was down to the tenacity of Rose Tynan who
despite being denied twice by Liz Murphy in the 35th minute
Liz Thompson was green carded in the 38th minute and Ireland equalised a minute later
Ireland were awarded a penalty corner and Elena Neill found a Kiwi foot and got a second set piece
Her second drag flick found Roisín Upton who passed to Katie Mullan
Mullan’s first time pass was tapped home at the far post by Sarah Hawkshaw
Sarah Hawkshaw struck again in the 51st minute
She cut into the semi-circle from the right along the end line and her shot found its way into the net
New Zealand withdrew their goalkeeper in favour of an extra attacker in the 57th minute
But it was to no avail as captain Frances Davies’ final minute yellow card reduced them to 10 players to see out the match
Ireland won 2-1 and are in the FIH Nations Cup Final tomorrow evening with the real prize being that spot in next season’s FIH PRO LEAGUE
Speaking after the game player of the match Sarah Hawkshaw said: “I think today it was a bit of a battle
We knew that we had set ourselves up for a battle
and I think it took a lot of resilience to get through that
Very proud of all the players and support staff.”
“We knew that wasn’t the real Ireland team that showed up in the opening game with Spain
and that performance was not going to define us in this tournament
We’re going to bring a new set of positives into tomorrow and we’ll be ready for whoever emerges from tonight’s second semi-final.”

RCD Espanyol B fell to a 2-1 defeat on the road to Terrassa FC on Sunday.
With their play-off spot already confirmed with two matches to spare, Luis Blanco’s boys were playing for the best possible position to arrive at the play-offs. It was the result of opponents Terrassa last week that confirmed Espanyol’s spot, as the hosts needed a result to stay in with a chance to join them.
The match got off to a tricky start for visitors Espanyol, as Terrassa struck first to take the lead through Lucas Viña. An early advantage gave the hosts momentum, but Espanyol were fighting to find a way through and back into it.
Behind at the break, coach Blanco turned to Joan Puig and Javi Hernández to come on to revitalise the team at half-time. It would work a treat as Hernández would be the one to equalise for Espanyol just after the hour mark, levelling it up at the Estadi Olímpic de Terrassa.
Both teams were fighting for the three points in an already evenly contested clash, each with their own goals centred around the play-offs. It would be the hosts who would find the breakthrough late on, as Lucas Viña made it a brace and gave Terrassa a late lead.
Though Espanyol gave it all to draw back level, they could not overcome the resilient hosts and fell to defeat away from home. Espanyol B conclude their regular season campaign next week, where they host Lleida Esportiu on matchday 34 back at the Ciutat Esportiva Dani Jarque.
Terrassa FC: Marcos, Diego (Sergi Serrano 46’), Jaouad, Neeskens, Lucas Viña, David Jiménez, Adri Lledó, V. Morales (B. Meshak 90’), Jordi Cano, Aythami, Servetti (Carlos Martínez 65’)
RCD Espanyol B: Fortuño, Omar (Joan Puig 46’), Simo, Casadesús, Lancho, Villahermosa (Mangada 76’), Roger Martínez (Tan 63’), Koleosho, Nabil, Kenneth (Javi Hernández 46’), Becerra (M. Carvalho 63’)
Goals: 1-0 Lucas Viña 11’; 1-1 Javi Hernández 63’, 2-1 Lucas Viña 81’
Bookings: Omar 43’; Lucas Viña 45’, Aythami Perera 89’

Terrassa Spain: Ireland took a step towards a potential place in next year’s FIH Pro League by beating Korea 4-0 to qualify for a semi-final against New Zealand on Saturday evening
Ireland world ranked #13 took on Korea world ranked #12 in their final POOL A match at the FIH Nations Cup game in Terrassa Spain
After their opening two games both sides had won one and lost one of their matches and were level on goal difference of minus one
Ireland were ahead on goals scored so a draw might have been enough for Ireland to go through
Ireland opened the scoring when Hannah Mc Loughlin converted a 27th minute penalty corner
Sarah Hawkshaw added a second from a penalty corner in the 30th minute and Ireland led 2-0 at half-time
Ireland’s captain Katie Mullan scored a goal from open play in the 54th minute to make it 3-0 to Ireland
In the dying seconds Roisín Upton converted a penalty corner to make the final score 4-0 to Ireland
In the 4th minute Naomi Carroll rattled the backboard but the goal was disallowed for the illegal use of the backstick
Two minutes later Niamh Carey had a chance to score but was denied by Korean goalkeeper Eun Ji Kim
Christina Hamill won a penalty corner for Ireland in the 6th minute
Hannah McLoughlin’s drag flick hit the upright and was cleared
Ireland won a penalty corner in the 10th minute when Naomi Carroll’s effort was blocked by a Korean defender using the back stick
Hannah McLoughlin’s drag flick appeared to be deflected wide but Ireland were not awarded a long corner
In the 13th minute Sarah Hawkshaw shot from outside the semi-circle and managed to rattle the backboard
one needs to be inside the opposition semi-circle for the goal to count so it was disallowed
It was 0-0 at the end of the first quarter
Korea were down to 10 players in the 19th minute when their captain Seo Jungeun was green carded
During those minutes Ireland won two penalty corners
The first time it was taken a Korean player ran out too early and was removed from the goal defending duties
During the retaken effort Elena Neill’s drag flick was saved by goalkeeper Eun Ji Kim
but the rebound fell to Sarah Torrans who shot the ball wide
A minute or so later Eun Ji Kim was alert to deny Síofra O’Brien who got a pass from Elena Neill who was playing her 150th international match for Ireland
In the 27th minute Ireland finally got their breakthrough
A penalty corner for Ireland was converted by Hannah McLoughlin whose strike put Ireland 1-0 up
Korea responded with a penalty corner in the 28th minute but Suyoung Seo’s effort went wide
In the 29th minute Katie Mullan had a shot go over the bar
In the final minute of the first half Ireland were awarded a penalty corner
Sarah Hawkshaw converted the penalty corner to make it 2-0
This is the third time Sarah Hawkshaw has scored against Korea in the past three occasions she has played against them
Ireland started the second half with a player advantage as Korean captain Seo Jungeun was yellow carded for five minutes at the end of the previous half
But there was no change in the scoreline and Ireland were not adversely affected by Christina Hamilli’s 2-minute green card in the 38th minute either
Eun Ji Kim saved to deny Ireland a further goal in the 39th minute diving to her right to deny Naomi Carroll a chance to increase Ireland’s lead
Korea did have a penalty corner in the 40th minute but An Sijun put it wide
and Korean goalkeeper Eun Ji Kim denied Ireland twice in the 43rd minute saving firstly from Síofra O’Brien and then seconds later from Naoimi Carroll
Korea never really threatened the Irish goal from open play during the second half
Ireland eventually got a third goal when captain Katie Mullan crowned her player of the match performance
by scoring from open play in the 54th minute to make it 3-0 to Ireland
But that wasn’t to be the end of the scoring
Ireland looked for a penalty corner in the dying seconds
Roisín Upton appealed to the video umpire who agreed that the incident she was asking about merited a penalty corner
Roisín Upton’s dragflick hit the back board in what proved to be the final action of the game in the 60th minute to make the final score Ireland 4 Korea 0
Only a huge win for Italy over Spain could change the opponents in the semi-finals
So Spain should be playing Chile on Saturday in the opening semi-final while Ireland play the Blacksticks from New Zealand in the later semi-final on Saturday evening at 6:30 p.m
Speaking after the match Ireland captain Katie Mullan providing her reaction to reaching the semi-final
said: “I think the character and resilience of this amazing group of women is just phenomenal
But it’s how we show up every single day that is the reason we got the result today
On the importance of the Irish support Ireland captain Katie Mullan said: “They’ve been incredible
Thanks very much to everyone in Green.”
