Vicente Mompó, president of the Legislature de Valencia, during the visit | EDATV NEWS Mompó Oversees the Reconstruction of La Fallereta Bridge in TurísThe president of the Legislature de Valencia also visited the investments in Montserrat17/02/2025 12:43:00h by Jesus Wollstein
"The speed with which the works are progressing demonstrates our commitment to the recovery of the provincial road network," Mompó stated. The Roads Deputy, Reme Mazzolari, reported that the forecast is to open the road to traffic in May, facilitating access for more than 800 residents in the area. The mayor emphasized the importance of the work, as the lack of this passage forces residents to take detours of up to an hour for their daily comspeechlesss.
Subsequently, Mompó traveled to Montserrat, where he visited, along with Mayor Sergio Vilar, the actions taken after the flood. The Diputació intervened immediately on the CV-416, a road that was destroyed and is now practically rebuilt.
Additionally, the president inspected the site of the future duplication of the CV-405, a 33.5 million euro project that will improve access and intersections to increase road safety. "We work on emergencies without neglecting long-term planning," Mompó stated.
The mayor thanked the support of the Diputació, highlighting that the damages in Montserrat amount to 22 million euros. He requested new investments for the reconstruction of the sports center and the recreational area of the reservoir, as well as improvements in the exit of the ravine toward the CV-405.
Montserrat has 1,744,563 euros in the Pla Obert d’Inversions 24/27, with a 20% increase compared to the previous period.

NHS savings could equate to millions of pounds per year
whilst reducing risks leading to better patient outcomes
New guidance has been released today by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recommending Olympus Medical’s transurethral resection in saline (TURis) system for use in surgery to reduce the size of enlarged prostate glands in men
NICE published the guidance in light of the potential it offers NHS hospitals to realise substantial cost savings of £285-£375 per patient whilst also improving patient outcomes
NICE has concluded that the use of TURis for transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) for benign prostate enlargement (BPE) avoids the risk of transurethral resection (TUR) syndrome and reduces the need for blood transfusions.1 TURis also demonstrated equivalent efficacy to monopolar systems – long considered the ‘gold standard’ for TURP
there is potential to reduce the length of hospital stay and its associated risks for each patient
as well as reducing hospital readmissions.1 Not only may these benefits improve patient satisfaction and outcomes
but could also result in improved waiting list times
general health system efficiency and increased hospital revenue by switching to day-case procedures
Approximately 15,000 TURP procedures are carried out each year in England and Wales.2 With potential savings of between £285 and £375 per patient
at least four million pounds could be saved per year by NHS implementation of the new NICE guidance.1 BPE is the most common cause of lower urinary tract symptoms
Approximately 60 percent of men who are aged 60 or over have some degree of prostate enlargement and the percentage increases to 80-90 percent in those aged over 80
Urological Surgeon at Frimley Park Hospital
Surrey and a lead expert adviser for the TURis NICE consultation
which is required in approximately half of those experiencing problems
is a growing issue for our healthcare system
The new NICE guidelines should be welcomed by patients
surgeons and the NHS due to the improved patient outcomes
efficiencies and potential cost savings that the newly recommended TURis system provides.”
On review of all evidence, NICE concluded the TURis system was of equivalent efficacy to the monopolar systems.1 It noted the important clinical advantages of TURis are reducing the risk of TUR syndrome with the use of a saline irrigation fluid rather than glycine
which is traditionally used with monopolar TURP
and in reducing the need for blood transfusion
Director of the Medical Systems Division at Olympus Medical said; “The TURis system provides an outstanding treatment option for benign prostatic enlargement with more than one million successful clinical cases proving its safety and efficacy
The TURis system provides benefits for patients and for the NHS without the need for radical changes in care pathways.”

Jon Turis lost his year-long battle with brain cancer Thursday
but not before making an impact on his community
"This police department and city are better for his service to them both," said Police Chief Mark Hudson
After more than two decades as a Huntsville officer working in different capacities
Turis was promoted in 2009 to supervisor of major crimes
which includes homicide and crime scene investigators
Hudson said he was hand-picked for the job
"He was intelligent and extremely talented," Hudson said
"He was one of the best officers I've ever seen in this department."
chemotherapy and radiation to beat the disease
he could've done anything in this life as a profession," Hudson said
"We're fortunate he chose to be a police officer here."
Turis graduated from Grissom High School and earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Alabama in Huntsville
Turis opened a car restoration business with his father
Hudson said fixing older cars was a hobby for Turis
but he took the hobby a step further when he quit the department and worked on cars full-time
Turis and his dad restored high-end automobiles and were well known in that circle
often getting business from around the country
"He was great at it," Hudson said
"He could strip it down to the frame and rebuild it to make it look like it just came off the showroom floor."
But the full-time restoration business didn't suit Turis
and he returned to the police department."He couldn't stay away," Hudson said
"He was the ultimate police officer - a cop's cop."
Mark Roberts said Turis was the epitome of what an officer should be
"He was a family man," Roberts said
It wasn't something he said; it was something he did."
Hudson said Turis had a knack for making people laugh and would often keep his colleagues entertained
but he knew when to be serious and when to joke
"He enjoyed his job and he enjoyed his life," Hudson said
"He was very personable and had a dry
Although Turis worked in the west precinct for several years
Hudson said he enjoyed his new role in major crimes the most
"He enjoyed the challenges the job brought," Hudson said
"He was highly respected throughout the department
"I feel privileged to have known him and shared part of his life," he said

AL -- Police haven't said what they were seeking when they searched a UAH shooting suspect's home Friday and called the bomb squad to investigate a "suspicious" PVC pipe
A Huntsville bomb squad robot destroyed the PVC pipe -- capped at both ends -- that was found in the home of Amy Bishop while executing a search warrant at her McDowling Drive house
Jon Turis said the pipe turned out to be nothing dangerous
and no bomb-making material was found in the home
Turis, supervisor of the Major Crimes Unit, said the search was part of an ongoing investigation of Bishop, a former University of Alabama in Huntsville professor charged with killing three of her colleagues and wounding three more on Feb
Turis declined to discuss any details of the search
Bishop and her husband, Jim Anderson, were questioned in connection with a pipe bomb sent in 1993 to a Harvard Medical School professor Bishop worked with at the time
Turis said Friday's search was not related to that incident
said he couldn't comment on the police presence at the home but said "everything is fine."
said he spoke to Anderson after the search
Miller said the police took a video camera and computers
Turis said Anderson was home at the time of the search
the bomb squad evacuated the home as well as a house next door
A bomb squad robot destroyed the piece of pipe next to the home
Conrad Thomas walked a street over after seeing police cars drive by between 1 and 1:30 p.m
Neighbors Thomas and Sherry Foley stood across the street from Bishop's home as several police cars and unmarked cars lined the street
"They told people to move back for safety
but they didn't evacuate us," Foley said

GKA captured the Nonna’s crown for the first time in since 2010
"It was a big win for the league,'' said Turis
"It’s been a long-time coming.''
Charlie’s Take: Hats off to those who made 2020 Little League District 24 Tournaments possible
It might have been played three months late, but it's exactly what the community needed during these trying times
DePrima not only registered five strikeouts in five innings of work to help him earn the victory
but he also starred defensively along with third baseman AJ DeAngelis
Great Kills American also received plenty of offensive support as well
Leading the way for the champs were Nick Capaldo (BB
Joseph Menoni (RBI) and Santino Yulfo (three RBI)

men who underwent bipolar plasma vaporization of the prostate for BPH using the “button” vapo-resection electrode continue to demonstrate significantly better symptom scores and voiding characteristics compared to their counterparts treated by bipolar transurethral resection in saline or monopolar transurethral resection of the prostate
San Diego-As follow-up lengthens in a prospective
men who underwent bipolar plasma vaporization of the prostate (BPVP) for BPH using the “button” vapo-resection electrode (PlasmaButton
PA) continue to demonstrate significantly better symptom scores and voiding characteristics compared to their counterparts treated by bipolar transurethral resection in saline (TURis) or monopolar transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP)
presented at the AUA annual meeting in San Diego
enrolled 510 men who were equally randomized into the three study arms
Eligible patients had a “medium-sized” prostate with a volume between 30 mL and 80 mL
along with an International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) over 19 and a maximum flow rate (Qmax) below 10 mL/s
and 6 months and every 6 months thereafter by IPSS
and post-void residual urinary volume (PVR)
PSA level and prostate volume (measured by transurethral ultrasound) were assessed every 6 months
Beginning at the first follow-up visit and with clinical data now available from the 36 months’ check-up
men treated by BPVP consistently demonstrated significantly superior improvements in both mean IPSS and Qmax compared to the TURis and TURP groups
At 1 month in the plasma vaporization and bipolar and monopolar resection series
when about 60% of the initially enrolled patients were evaluated
there were still significant differences favoring BPVP over TURis and TURP in mean IPSS values (5.4 vs
there were no significant differences among the groups in mean PSA level
“We’ve performed more than 1,200 BPVP procedures
and therefore we can say that our experience is one of the most extensive anywhere in the world so far
supplementary data is required in order to definitively establish the long-term efficacy and retreatment rates for BPVP
we have more than enough reasons to believe the PlasmaButton technique just might make it in BPH endoscopic treatment,” said senior author Petrisor Geavlete
“BPVP seems to represent a viable alternative in BPH endoscopic treatment
apparently able to challenge the ‘gold-standard’ status of monopolar TURP and to bring significant improvements to the bipolar electrosurgical approach,” said first author Bogdan Geavlete
As previously reported in Urology (2011; 78:930-5)
BPVP had similar BPH tissue removal capabilities when compared to TURis and TURP
the bipolar vaporization approach was characterized by a significantly shorter operative time than its comparators (39.7 vs
52 and 55 minutes.) as well as reduced perioperative morbidity and faster postoperative recovery
The intraoperative bleeding rate and mean hemoglobin level decrease were both significantly lower subsequent to BPVP than after TURis or TURP
and the PlasmaButton procedure also displayed significantly lower postoperative hematuria and blood transfusion rates
“the mean catheterization period and hospital stay were also significantly shorter for patients undergoing BPVP than in the other surgical groups.”
There were no significant differences among the three study arms concerning the frequency of irritative symptoms
The rate of bladder neck sclerosis was significantly lower among men who underwent BPVP when compared to TURis and TURP (2.4% vs
while the re-treatment rate was significantly lower due to PlasmaButton vaporization by comparison to bipolar and monopolar resection (1.8% vs

Great Kills finds itself in the championship game of the Little League District 24 11s all-star baseball tournament
.st1{fill-rule:evenodd;clip-rule:evenodd;fill:#2a2a2a}By Joe D'Amodio | damodio@siadvance.comSouth Shore and Great Kills both won their Little League District 24 11-year-old all-star baseball semifinal games on Wednesday night to advance to Saturday’s championship tilt at South Shore at 11 a.m
behind strong pitching and a balanced hitting attack
Anthony DePrima was 2 for 3 with three RBI and Jace lawless went 2 for 3 with two runs scored to back a trio of hurlers for the winners
“Our offense was already to go knowing the stakes on the line,” said Great Kills manager Chris Turis
“We attacked their pitching and put the ball in play.”
Great Kills starter Jonathan Dennigan struck out five in 2 2/3 innings
while Anthong Conti fanned six in the same amount of innings
the three hurlers allowed a a combined two hits
nine-inning defeat to South Shore during pool play
but Turis is optimistic about Saturday’s title game
“We just have to play our game and trust our abilities and not beat ourselves because they won’t beat themselves,” said Turis of South Shore
“They are a great team and very well coached.”
The Tottenville loop ousted a pesky M-I squad as Regina -- with his pinpoint control -- pitched into the sixth inning and struck out six
“Regina pounds the strike zone and he did just that tonight,” said South Shore manager Anthony Vigliotti
“He has been a welcome addition to the team this year.”
Nicholas Newbranch was 2 for 2 with a walk and an RBI
while Vincenzo Novello (RBI) and Vincenzo Lanni each went 2 for 3
BB) singled home Lanni to open the scoring in the home first
SSLL tacked on two more in the second after Vito Lavignani’s (1 for 1
SB) acrobatic slide enabled him to reach base via an infield single
Newbranch and Lavignani scored on a fielder’s choice by Christian Falzone
RBI singles in the fifth by Novello and Newbranch made it 5-0
South Shore will play for its second straight District 24 crown on Saturday
“This is a special group that went far last year and suffered a bad ending
losing two games in the state championship finals,” said Vigliotti
“We have a mission that is no way near complete.”
