Bunker Type is a basement where an old printing press with lead type is hidden, where Jesus Moretín prints as before the Civil War.
In Barcelona hobbies are expensive and nowadays it seems to be difficult to find places that don’t cost an arm and a leg to cultivate your passion. But there are hollows, basements or, in this case, bunkers where some crazy people cultivate interests and history outside the world as in a time capsule.
That’s what Bunker Type does , a basement in a small street in Vallcarca where Jesús Moretín keeps a printing press where he publishes as it was published in the early twentieth century.
Jesús Moretín is a teacher from La Massana who has another passion: antique printing. To cultivate it he has found this place, a basement in Vallcarca, which is just that, a bunker where he can hide so that time does not pass among tools for which, precisely, time does not pass.
Still, Bunker Type is just that, an artistic haven, where Moretín now makes creative prints from tools that weren’t really meant to do that. For example, they have now released a book for young children with Òscar Dalmau, where retro aesthetics are key.
The process is beautiful but slow. On the plate the solid lead types are placed in order, carefully, adding pieces to mark spaces and respecting the laws of the old printing presses, where everything goes slowly and a page can take an hour to make, and then pass it through the lathe and start printing.
The printing shop is not open to the public, because in the end it is like an extension of Moretín’s living room, but to go there, talk to him or propose a project you only have to write to him and he will be delighted to receive you.
Barcelona will debut new illuminous totems as Christmas decorations in all districts of the city this festive season
These totems will be large figures of light in different shapes
and will be placed in all districts of the city
The official lighting ceremony will take place on November 28 and the streets will be lit up until January 6
The council will also keep lights on for two hours longer each night this Christmas
The lights will be switched on until 1 am between Sundays and Thursdays
In addition, the city will also launch new routes to see emblematic shops in the city's old town, and facades of 14 unique buildings and hotels will be illuminated, including Torre de les Aigües del Besòs, the Masia de Torre Llobeta, the Vallcarca Viaduct, and the Casa Golferichs in Eixample.
In total, the council will allocate a budget of €3.3 million to the Christmas lights, 13% more than in 2023.
The light structures idea was first launched in 2021 in the city centre, and were selected from a design competition to create a unique image of Christmas in Barcelona.
This year, there will be 110 kilometers of space with lights, 6km more than last year.

a measure that promises to improve the quality of life of residents and revitalize the neighborhoods through which the road passes
foresees the coverage of a section of the Ronda between Vallcarca Avenue and IES Vall d’Hebron
This initiative represents a significant step in the urban development of the city and responds to the demands of citizens and neighborhood organizations that have been requesting this improvement for some time
This is a key action for the development of the neighborhoods in the area and for the city as a whole
as it will allow the creation of new spaces for citizen use and green areas that will benefit the residents of Sant Genís dels Agudells and La Teixonera
The project will be carried out in two phases
starting with the construction of the central wall and emergency exits
followed by the covering and service passages along with the installations and finishing of the generated tunnel
The works are estimated to cost 40 million euros and are expected to be completed by June 2027
the urbanization of the surrounding area will begin
although the winning proposal and the specific characteristics of the promenade and activities area have not yet been defined
Covering the Ronda de Dalt is a necessary measure to mitigate the negative effects of this infrastructure
which has generated noise and pollution in the neighborhoods through which it passes
This action seeks not only to improve mobility and accessibility
but also to promote a more sustainable and citizen-friendly environment
This project is in addition to other urban transformation initiatives in Barcelona
such as the covering of sections of other ring roads in previous years
The city continues to evolve and adapt to the needs of its residents
always seeking to improve the quality of life and well-being of all citizens
The start of construction in June marks a new milestone on the road to a more livable and sustainable Barcelona
The coverage of the Ronda de Dalt is one of the examples of Barcelona’s urban transformation advancing with firm steps towards a more sustainable and livable future
It is a decision whose main objective is to improve the quality of life of citizens and revitalize neighborhoods
The coverage of the Ronda de Dalt in the Horta-Guinardó district will generate new spaces for citizen use and green areas

Highway tolls will be mandatory in Spain again in 2024 as imposed by the EU
After many years of grassroots pressure, the Catalan and Spanish authorities terminated toll concessions back in August 2021 to make driving more affordable
It is only now that the topic is back on the agenda as politicians are campaigning for the upcoming general election on July 23.
In an interview with Catalan television TV3
DGT's director asked for the topic to be taken out of the debate
as in 2024 the EU will "impose" mandatory tolls again.
Navarro added that highway tolls are a way to ensure road conservation and maintenance
has "categorically" denied that the Spanish government is "thinking about the imposition of tolls."
During the debate between Spain's two main prime ministerial candidates, Alberto Núñez Feijóo ofthe People's Party accused the Socialist Pedro Sánchez of agreeing with the European Parliament to bring back tolls.
According to the Socialist government, they will not impose tolls on highways and roads. In fact, minister Raquel Sánchez adds that "a great part of Spain's road are toll-free thanks to the socialists."
Vox's MEP Jorge Buxadé, meanwhile, has asked the European Commission to confirm whether the EU has "obligated Spain to impose tolls in order to receive European funds."

"We've had brunch every day since we arrived in Barcelona," says an American tourist savoring a French toast with scrambled eggs at one of the Catalan capital's pioneering brunch spots.
thousands of tourists flock daily to the Catalan capital's thriving brunch scene
especially in the city's central tourist areas.
Tourism is a major driver of this trend. In 2023, Barcelona welcomed nearly 16 million international visitors
According to Google Maps data analyzed by Catalan News
Barcelona has more than 180 places that offer brunch
includes specialized brunch spots as well as general cafes
bakeries and restaurants with broader menus that offer brunch options.
such as those near the Sagrada Familia and the Gothic Quarter
have also become hotspots for brunch lovers.
The location of most brunch spots in Barcelona suggests that brunch is largely a tourist-driven phenomenon rather than a local tradition
Even the expat community - often cited as another factor behind the rise of brunch spots - seems to play a secondary role compared to the overwhelming influence of tourism
"Brunch is a little more unusual in the local culture
so we see more international customers than locals
it's mostly travelers," says Billy Thorens
one of the city's most popular brunch destinations
Thorens opened Billy Brunch in 2018 as one of the first dedicated brunch venues in the Eixample district
the business has expanded to six locations across the city
The Swiss entrepreneur attributes his decision to open the restaurant to a combination of business opportunity
Barcelona's favorable weather and high quality of life
"I chose Eixample for its proximity to everything
The Sagrada Família brings people year-round," he explains
have spurred the rise of increasingly extravagant brunch venues
often adorned with pink floral decor and elaborate design elements
The menu at Billy Brunch continues to focus on traditional fare
with good eggs and good coffee in a pleasant atmosphere," Thorens describes
"There is a demand for fanciness - it works with TikTok
but our traditional brunch will last forever," he adds
the charm of Billy Brunch resonates on social media as well
tourists from the United States enjoying a meal there
told us that social media led them to the spot
the exterior was really aesthetic," they say
Talking to several customers who enjoy brunch at Billy Brunch
it is clear that the main draws are the healthy
protein-rich food - especially the eggs - and the inviting atmosphere
but they're not necessarily looking for a heavy meal with wine," Billy explains
"They want a place where they can socialize in a healthy environment with a lot of variety
Despite the increase in brunch spots, the locals have not followed suit. In fact, some have taken an initiative to reclaim the traditional Catalan equivalent of brunch, the 'esmorzar de forquilla,' or fork breakfast.
"We're not coming to take away the local culture. If you come to Billy Brunch and ask for 'pa am tomaquet' or a simple 'tortilla', you will get it. We understand Catalan and everyone is welcome," says Billy, encouraging locals to try brunch.

The works to cover the stretch of Ronda de Dalt between IES Vall d’Hebron and Vallcarca Avenue
in the neighborhoods of Sant Genís dels Agudells and La Teixonera
will mark a milestone in Barcelona’s urban mobility
The Barcelona City Council’s Ecology and Urban Planning Plenary met this Tuesday to approve the executive project
an important step towards the materialization of this ambitious project
Once the green light is given by the city council
construction will begin in the second quarter of 2024
The 340-meter stretch to be covered joins the existing ones between Avinguda del Jordà and Vall d’Hebron high school
adding a total of 540 meters of public space gained to the Ronda de Dalt
This project is not only about “plugging” a road with a high capacity for environmental and acoustic pollution
but also about “connecting neighborhoods”
emphasizes that this initiative partially closes “an open architectural wound” in many of the neighborhoods crossed by this high-capacity road in the city
He further stresses that this coverage is the “fair return” deserved by neighborhoods that have been making “a sacrifice for the mobility of the city.”
The 340 meters of slab that will be covered are a way to repay a “historical debt” that the city of Barcelona has with these neighborhoods
This initiative is a sign of commitment to improve the quality of life of residents in the area
The budget for the covering project amounts to 40 million euros
with 30 million euros to be executed in this term of office and the remaining 10 million euros in the next term of office for the urbanization works of the resulting surface
which will be slightly more than half a kilometer long
Work will begin with the construction of six necessary emergency exits and a central T-shaped wall that will support the covering slab
the placement of the different pieces that will form the covering slab will begin
a participatory process will be carried out to define the urbanization of the public space that will remain on the new section of the Ronda already covered
the final urbanization of the surface will be carried out
The specific effects on subway traffic on the Ronda and on surface mobility on the sides will be determined once the execution project is definitively outlined in April or May of next year
some neighbors of the area to be covered expressed their views on the duration of the works and asked for a greater participation in the final urbanization of the surface
The La Teixonera Neighborhood Association advocated for the community’s voice to be taken into account in this transformative project
reaffirmed that this section is only “a first concretion” of the agreement between the political forces of the consistory to cover the Ronda de Dalt and assured that “we have started and we are not going to stop”
The alderman also confirmed that while this project is being executed
the conditions for drafting the executive projects for other sections of the Ronda will be discussed
moving towards phases 3 and 4 of the coverage
The future of mobility in Barcelona looks brighter than ever

line V19 will operate with three routes to improve frequencies in key sections such as Park Güell and the maritime area
Starting this Saturday, April 12, the V19 bus line that connects Barceloneta with Plaça Alfonso Comín will operate with three different routes during weekends and holidays
This measure seeks to reinforce the service in the sections with more demand
especially around Park Güell and the maritime area
and to decongest others that do not require so much passenger traffic
With the incorporation of up to 8 additional vehicles
two partial services will be created in addition to the usual route
improving frequency and avoiding congestion along the line
announced Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB)
One of the reinforcements will cover the northern section between the stops Praga – Ronda Guinardó (Metro Alfons X) and Avenida República Argentina (Metro Vallcarca)
between 10:00 and 18:00 hours with four standard 80-seater buses
The second reinforcement will focus on the southern section
between Paseo de Sant Joan – Còrsega (Metro Verdaguer) and Plaza Rosa dels Vents (Barceloneta area)
with four articulated buses of greater capacity (120 seats)
During the first days there will be information personnel and special signage at the affected stops
TMB recommends that users pay attention to the signs on the front of the buses to ensure that the vehicle is heading to the desired destination
the V19 line carried more than six million passengers
with an average of 19,000 validations on weekdays
14,000 on Saturdays and 12,000 on public holidays
Radical protesters seeking to drive tourists away from Spain are encouraging foreign visitors to throw themselves off balconies
Posters and graffiti have appeared in Barcelona in the latest campaign against over-tourism
making light of the craze where people jump off hotel or apartment balconies
A poster on a lamppost said: “Dear Tourist
appear designed to make British holidaymakers feel particularly unwelcome
a popular tourist destination featuring work by the architect Antoni Gaudí
No one has claimed responsibility for the campaign
but most local residents believe that it is protesters who campaign against the high number of tourists
claiming that the hordes are making life unbearable for those who live there and driving up property prices
The posters include the hashtag #BalconingIsFun
with Twitter users retweeting them and adding jokes or memes
A spokeswoman for Barcelona city council said: “We reject these incidents and above all the message
They will be removed by the municipal cleaning services.”
Abta and the British embassy have urged holidaymakers to avoid taking risks on balconies after nine Britons were injured or killed in falls in three months
died last month after falling 70ft from a balcony in Magaluf in Majorca
He was on holiday with friends to celebrate having completed his A levels
Dozens of people are said to have been killed or injured since the ‘balconing’ craze began
A study by one hospital between 2010 and 2015 found that two thirds of those doing it were Britons who were often drunk or had taken drugs
Jacobs Media is a company registered in England and Wales
Work is now under way to cover the Ronda de Dalt in Horta-Guinardó
The work includes the construction of the wall in the central reservation of the ringroad
access for services and the conditioning of the tunnel
with six emergency exits and a technical room in one of them
The project as a whole is expected to be finished in May 2027
Along with the section already completed between Av
this area will represent a total of 540 metres of road covered and transformed into a green public space
To enable the structural work to be completed
one traffic lane will be closed in the direction of the Besòs on the night of Wednesday
and another lane closed in the direction of the Llobregat the following night
The lane closures will be in place between C/ Granja Vella and C/ Anna Piferrer until September
with two lanes operating in each direction until then
Consensus over the way the work is carried out
The commission for the agreement on the transformation of the Ronda de Dalt and its environs
will discuss and define the uses for the new urban space to be generated
The stages that follow will also be developed within the framework of the commission
