move on from him before the start of training camp so they know what they're working with in the secondary
Teams around the league would be interested if it weren't for his $24 million in guaranteed money
Proposing trade ideas for the All-Pro cornerback, Jacob Camenker of USA Today proposed the idea of sending him to the Philadelphia Eagles
where he’d be reunited with defensive coordinator Vic Fangio
“The Eagles would be a dark horse option to trade for Ramsey
but never count Howie Roseman out of pulling off an aggressive move
Philadelphia lost Darius Slay and Isaiah Rodgers during the offseason and could use a veteran to pair with the strong second-year duo of Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean
While Camenker brings up the Fangio connection
it's important to note that Ramsey and other players on the Dolphins’ defense two years ago weren't exactly big fans of the veteran defensive coordinator
it likely means the Eagles wouldn't be interested in trading for him at all
With WrestleMania well in the rear-view mirror
WWE’s narrative is settling into some promising new directions
The most important storyline of the program revolved around the ultimatum given him by former friend Seth Rollins: Flee to Smackdown and get the championship match you desperately want
Revolving the storyline around this difficult choice was a compelling hook which framed Zayn as important
Unlike Cody Rhodes’ weeks-long consideration of the Rock’s offer
Zayn took only two hours to turn down Rollins
As sacrificial lamb in the rise of the new Rollins-Bron Breakker-Paul Heyman faction
Zayn hit all the right notes for a sympathetic babyface (Kansas City’s tone-deaf “one more time” chants
Zayn’s babyface character works best when he is framed as an underdog
and a clean defeat by Breakker only helps in this regard
His betrayal by former friend Rollins and the excessive beating it entailed gives Zayn something to avenge upon his return
It wasn’t a mistake that the story hinged upon Zayn’s unfulfilled mission to win a world championship
WWE Writers deliberately planted the seeds of a Zayn run at the championship in the minds of fans as foreshadowing
Fans passionately supported his run at Roman Reigns’ Undisputed WWE Universal Championship
Smart money says there is a satisfying world championship win in Zayn’s future
Exploding with charisma and athletic ability
the Street Profits have been largely spinning their wheels in an extended holding pattern for the past four years
Shortly after the viewing on the main roster in 2019
winning the Raw SmackDown Tag team Championship
2020 would see them win the SmackDown Tag Team Championship as well
The following 4 years the Profits failed time after time to regain championship gold
received diminishing opportunities to participate in storylines or promos
Uniting with Bobby Lashley in 2023 seemed to promise a return to relevance
but after months of feuding with the Final Testament
the faction disbanded due to Lashley’s departure in the summer of 2024
The Profits faded into the background until the Royal Rumble
where they inexplicably interfered in a two-out-of-three-falls championship match between DIY and the Motor City Machine Guns
After several months of toiling in the undercard
the Profits finally recaptured the SmackDown Tag Team Championship from DIY in March
The Profits would go on to retain their titles in a phenomenal TLC match against both DIY and the Machine Guns on the main event of the SmackDown following WrestleMania
It’s a shame the match was relegated to TV
as an inclusion in WrestleMania would have been fitting
Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins finally have another opportunity to show what they can do as dominant champions
Their absence from this week’s SmackDown gives some cause for concern
If they’re granted ample time for exciting matches and competent story lines that give fans reason to care
Nathan Frasier & Axiom have surpassed all expectations to become the most exciting team of 2024
Upon their NXT tag team debut in January 2024
but both were undersized and lacked compelling characters
It was no surprise when the new team lost repeatedly to the Wolf Dogs (Baron Corbin and Bron Breakker)
What was surprising was their upset win over the Wolf Dogs in March of that year
the duo would go on to dominate the NXT Tag Team division over the next year
losing the title only briefly to Chase University before recapturing them
Fraxiom’s chemistry and matches continued to improve and they remained a unit despite having regular dissention befitting the Judgement Day and inummerable false hints of a break-up
Frasier & Axiom finally lost the NXT Tag Team Championships at NXT Stand & Deliver to underdogs Hank and Tank in their final match for NXT last month
Their debut tag team match on SmackDown saw Fraxiom defeat Los Lotharios
followed this week by a win over Pretty Deadly
except for Frasier bloodying Prince and apparently nearly injuring Wilson in the latter match
rightly being introduced as a big deal and a team to watch on SmackDown
but Fraxiom will need to find a way to connect with the fans if they’re to stand out going forward
Perez reigned as champion for much of 2023 and most of 2024
Perez’s excellent ring work belies her age
earning her the nickname “the Prodigy.” Despite her youthful appearance
and it took her turning into a smug self-indulgent heel to earn a strong reaction from fans
Coming to the main roster at the height of her skills and relevance
Perez was poised for a strong run as a top contender
Such success now seems less and less likely
Following a strong reintroduction to fans at the 2025 Royal Rumble match
which saw her set a new record by lasting well over an hour
Perez hasn’t had a chance to make much of an impression at all
Her only two singles matches have ended in defeat
WWE has failed to show fans who Perez is or what she’s about
She has had very little time on the mic to represent herself
Interviews or even old-school vignettes introducing Perez and showing fans why we should care about her could have gone a long way
They say you never get a second chance to make a first impression
It was a tough week for NXT”s resident play-by-play announcer
Joseph made a critical mistake at a vital moment: the climax of Tuesday’s NXT main event
As WWE Women’s World Champion Iyo Sky hit her finishing move on Roxanne Perez
Vic blurted out “moon over the moonsault!”
His broadcast colleagues did not correct him
and Corey Graves shifted the discussion to framing the consequences of Iyo’s subsequent victory
Subsequent replays of the finish on YouTube and other outlets only draw further attention to his embarrassing botch
Joseph often looks great in comparison to Booker T
He doesn’t often make this type of mistake
he makes them too often to be considered for a higher-profile slot calling Raw or Smackdown
particularly with better commentators like Graves on standby
Josph called Iyo’s matches for years and there isn’t any good excuse for miscalling the Over the Moonsault
Joseph actually replaced Michael Cole as Raw play-by-play announcer for a few months in 2019
Joe Hendry was arguably the biggest breakout independent wrestler of 2024
The reaction Hendry received when he answered Randy Orton’s challenge at WrestleMania was tremendous
one befitting a future main-roster main eventer
The TNA Champion’s rare three-minutes loss and subsequent humiliation by Orton
It was a bad look for both Hendry and for the wrestling organization he represents
Hendry would go on to brag about the encounter on the following week’s NXT as if it were a remarkable success
This made Hendry seem as if he never expected to wrestle a competitive match against Orton
If Joe Hendry doesn’t believe in Joe Hendry

Frances McDormand and Mike Myers are some of those who have appeared alongside Tim Crouch in An Oak Tree
despite never having seen the script before
As the play celebrates its 20th anniversary
past performers explain its strange appeal
“A lot of actor training is about holding focus within the stage and putting the audience into a receiving role,” says Crouch
“I used to go to pubs and bitch about it.”
An Oak Tree – his 2005 play that is now seen as a landmark work – was born directly from these frustrations
which is written to be performed by Crouch and a new actor each night
but it contains an unfinished element,” Crouch says
An Oak Tree’s story concerns a meeting between two men: a father who has lost his 12-year-old daughter in a car crash (played by the actor)
and the person behind the wheel (played by Crouch)
The one basic requirement is that the actor arrives at the theatre oblivious
and be willing to stand on stage with no idea what will happen over the course of the evening
Mike Myers and David Harewood are some of the many names to have played Crouch’s unwitting castmate over the years
One of the play’s early performers was Toby Jones
who “rocked up” at the Brighton festival run of the show in 2006
“Tim said you don’t need to know anything; come on stage
Part of the appeal for him was the opportunity to “go on a journey with Tim” and lean into the unexpected
it is about submission of control … it is very moving; there’s quite a lot to take in”
who performed in An Oak Tree at Rada in London in 2018
was similarly excited by the play’s uncharted territory
and there is absolutely zero risk.” After An Oak Tree finished
Wokoma “missed it immediately because I had to go back to what we’ve decided theatre is
I felt proud that I was part of it – you’re part of the largest company ever”
View image in fullscreenDavid Harewood. Photograph: Tim CrouchNow, 20 years after its conception, Crouch is preparing to celebrate its anniversary with a three-week run at London’s Young Vic
Meera Syal and Mark Gatiss are all due to take the second role in Crouch’s ever-evolving drama
Crouch has now performed An Oak Tree 380 times at theatres all across the globe
He keeps a list on his laptop of actors who have joined the play’s ever-growing company
“is like a lizard; it loses its tail and regrows it”
Crouch started his career in the theatre company Public Parts and trained as an actor at the University of Bristol and the Central School of Speech and Drama in London
He branched out into writing with his debut My Arm
a play that uses objects from the audience to a tell a story about a man who holds his arm above his head for 30 years
“I was an unhappy actor and didn’t know what the fuck I was doing,” he says
“I wanted to effectively keep doing what I was doing with My Arm – to use an actor’s projection to turn a human into another human.”
but Tim has written it so you’re constantly being reassured that however you’re doing it is rightToby JonesNowadays Crouch is considered a master of form
His plays challenge the traditional expectations of theatre
But it’s surprising to learn that An Oak Tree’s narrative came before its structure
with Crouch writing a story about two men meeting up after the death of one of their children
Inspired by a sculpture by Michael Craig Martin
which labels what is clearly a glass of water as an oak tree
the father in the play turns a nearby oak tree into his daughter
alongside his now-longtime collaborator Andy Smith
wrote a play that “aligned both” form and story
Crouch wanted the father to be played by a non-actor
“But then it expanded into using a different actor every time,” he says
Smith took the role of the unknowing actor/father
Andy would erase his memory of the previous day’s work,” he says
and how enabling my instructions were.” The second character is still called Andy in the published playscript of An Oak Tree
View image in fullscreenRandom factor … Tim Crouch
Crouch started to “bring in friends” to see how they’d react
“We’d talk to them afterwards and go: ‘How was that for you
An Oak Tree opened at the now defunct Nightingale theatre in Brighton with Deborah Asante playing the role of the father
Putting the second actor at ease is hugely important to Crouch
He meets them an hour before the show to prepare them for what to expect
“I start by saying they can’t get it wrong
Taking part in Crouch’s “formal game” was a liberating experience for Jones
but Tim has written it so you’re constantly being reassured that however you’re doing it
“I remember coming off and thinking the play was just a beautiful idea.” Since then
Jones has encouraged any actor considering signing up for An Oak Tree to do it
the actor and artistic director of Shakespeare’s Globe in London
who is on the cast list for the forthcoming Young Vic run
admits that she’s been a fan of Crouch’s work “for ever” and lists off some of her favourite plays that he has written
and Truth’s a Dog Must to Kennel in quick succession
“I think anyone who loves theatre and works in theatre just thinks he’s the best,” she says
The rules of An Oak Tree are followed closely by the actors. Also due to appear at the Young Vic is Game of Thrones actor Indira Varma, who has avoided talking to anyone who has been in the play before. “We’re not allowed,” she laughs. “How do you prepare for something you don’t know anything about? I think I’m just going to go with the flow.”
Read more“It must be exciting for the audience,” she says, “watching someone potentially make a twat of themselves but also maybe succeed.” The only thing that worries Terry is that the script’s font might be too small to read; “otherwise, it is just a beautiful offer to go and just be there”.
Now big-name actors queue to perform in An Oak Tree, a play that began its life on the fringes. How does this feel for Crouch, whose work is created in antithesis to the mainstream theatre world where Hollywood Oscar winners dominate? “I would very happily play to university theatres for ever,” says Crouch. “But I think the play is more than that. It has something to say about the bigger structures that operate in theatres.”
Clearly, Crouch’s “imperfect” play appeals to the masses. “It took me a long time to have the confidence to call myself a playwright,” he admits. And yet Crouch has new ideas bubbling to the surface. He wants to write more work for children: his twist on A Midsummer Night’s Dream, I, Peaseblossom, is on at the RSC in May. But, never once in 20 years has he been bored by An Oak Tree. “It keeps my brain alive and alert,” he says. “Until theatre changes profoundly, I will keep doing it.”
An Oak Tree is at the Young Vic, London, Tuesday to 24 May.

At this week's WTA 125 events, accepting a wild card in France worked out perfectly for Naomi Osaka, while Dalma Galfi and Bianca Andreescu picked up titles in Spain.
Here's what took place at the clay-court WTA 125s over the weekend:
Former World No. 1 Osaka of Japan collected the first WTA 125 title of her career on Sunday, defeating Kaja Juvan of Slovenia 6-1, 7-5 to win the L'Open 35 de Saint Malo title in Saint Malo, France.
Of course, Osaka has been a significant champion in her career, winning four Grand Slam titles and three additional titles on the Hologic WTA Tour. But she had not won a singles title at any level since her most recent Grand Slam at the 2021 Australian Open.
View this post on Instagram A post shared by L'Open 35 de Saint-Malo (@open_35)
That all changed this week after Osaka took a wild card into the event as the No. 2 seed. Osaka dropped one set apiece to French hopes Diane Parry and Leolia Jeanjean, but she moved through the draw smoothly otherwise.
Fun fact: this was not Osaka's first WTA 125 final. She finished runner-up to Yaroslava Shvedova at WTA 125 Hua Hin in 2015, nine-and-a-half years ago.
Meanwhile, a quick shout-out goes to former Top 100 player Juvan, who ended a 12-month hiatus from tour in January and has already reached a WTA 125 final.
The Saint Malo doubles title was won by No. 1 seeds Maia Lumsden and Makoto Ninomiya. They beat No. 2 seeds Oksana Kalashnikova and Angelica Moratelli 7-5, 6-2 in Saturday's final.
View this post on Instagram A post shared by L'Open 35 de Saint-Malo (@open_35)
Hungary's Galfi had never won a WTA 125 title until she hoisted the trophy at Oeiras last month. Now she has won two.
On Saturday, Galfi swept past Rebeka Masarova of Switzerland 6-3, 6-0 to win the Catalonia Open title in Vic, Spain. Galfi is currently in the midst of a 10-match winning streak.
View this post on Instagram A post shared by Dalma Galfi (@dalmagalfi)
This was a completely dominant week for surging Galfi. She did not lose more than four games in a set during her run through Vic.
Galfi, who was a World No. 1 junior a decade ago, is arguably in the hottest form of her professional career. Three weeks ago she was ranked No. 149, but she is now projected to return to the Top 100 in Monday's updated PIF WTA Rankings.

an additional Grand Slam champion took a wild card this week and ended it with a title
2019 US Open champion Bianca Andreescu paired with Aldila Sutjiadi to win the Vic doubles title

Execs unfiltered thoughts on NFL Draft for every NFC team: Giants, Bears get high marks - The AthleticJihaad Campbell
labeled a tone-setting “hammer” by one exec
was the first true linebacker selected (considering Jalon Walker as an edge rusher)
Second-rounder Andrew Mukuba was the third safety.Injuries are one risk with Campbell
“Jihaad Campbell was one of the higher grades I’ve given for a linebacker,” an exec said
“(Defensive coordinator) Vic Fangio will use (Zack) Baun off the ball and Campbell on the ball
They will be the blitzers in the simulated four-man pressures that Vic runs
It can be like Patrick Willis and NaVorro Bowman in San Francisco.”
2025 NFL Rookie of the Year predictions: Ranking candidates - ESPN+Similarly
Eagles linebacker Jihaad Campbell can play a variety of roles on his defense
he’ll rotate in for snaps behind Nolan Smith Jr
and Jalyx Hunt; if he’s an off-ball linebacker
he’ll do the same behind Zack Baun and Nakobe Dean
I can’t define his role with any confidence

S Sydney Brown: This one is pretty obvious
The Eagles used their second-round pick (No
64 overall) on safety Andrew Mukuba out of Texas
there wasn’t really anyone in Brown’s way from that starting safety job next to Reed Blankenship
who has already been compared to the former starter at that spot
who was traded to the Texans this offseason
66 overall (third round) a couple years ago but he was selected before Vic Fangio took over as DC
Brown suffered a torn ACL at the end of his rookie season
So even though he was buried on the depth chart last season
we don’t really know what Fangio thinks of him
But we do know the Eagles last week drafted a guy who is probably already the favorite to win the job
Howie Roseman: Nothing in the past guarantees future success - PFTThe Eagles lost a few key pieces from their Super Bowl team in March
but they held onto linebacker Zack Baun and have a lot more of their stars returning to the team than leaving when all is said and done
That will lead to a lot of talk about a possible repeat as the 2025 season draws closer
but General Manager Howie Roseman offered a little caution against putting the cart before the horse
Roseman told Adam Schein of Mad Dog Sports Radio that the Eagles have to “take the lessons we learned from that 2017 team” as they move toward next season
Top 10 games of 2025 season: Chiefs-Bills, Vikings-Seahawks rank high on upcoming NFL schedule - NFL.comIt’s the matchup we didn’t get last postseason
The Lions and the Eagles were the clear-cut two best NFC clubs during the regular season
but then Detroit failed to win a playoff game while Philly romped to the Lombardi Trophy
as they do every year for every team — including Detroit losing both of its coordinators and Philly saying goodbye to its OC and some defensive pieces — but the key players remain to provide an excellent show of two NFC powers
Brown has already stumped for this game to be the season opener
Regardless of where on the calendar it falls
we should be in for a heavyweight bout between a Jared Goff -led explosive offense and the home runs of Saquon Barkley
Spadaro: Eagles have bright picture – for now and into the future - PE.com“We are always trying to think of the present and the future simultaneously and optimize across what we’re trying to build this year and then planning for a team that is sustainably good,” Assistant General Manager Alec Halaby said
“This is something that we have tried to do here for years and something that we want to continue to do
I think we have a really good core to the roster
We have a lot of really good young players
but if you’re not adding to that group every year
young players every year and we want to keep the roster dynamic.”

it’s too soon to make Jayden Daniels the face of NFL football — that this ‘honor’ should be reserved for veteran players who have spent years building a legacy

NFL Draft Analysis: Washington Commanders - BGNThis is a big offseason for the Washington Commanders
They have the reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year in Jayden Daniels
and they are coming off an NFC Championship appearance (where the Eagles clobbered them)
It was crucial for Dan Quinn’s squad to not rest on their laurels and continue to build out a Super Bowl contender
That journey started with big bangs during free agency
where the team traded for Laremy Tunsil and Deebo Samuel to put more around their young signal caller
They also signed Javon Kinlaw to a big contract to bolster their defensive line
Though they had limited resources in the 2025 NFL Draft
Washington continued to add players who could contribute early and mostly make life easier for Jayden Daniels
Cowboys point/counterpoint: How complete is the roster after 2025 draft? - Blogging The BoysIt’s going to sound like I’m critical of this draft
and I’m really not - I gave the overall draft class a B+ grade
But I am much more bothered by the wide receiver neglect than you seem to be
Banking on Jonathan Mingo to be your WR2 in 2025 is dangerously arrogant; I really
really hope to see a veteran free agent added in the coming days to address this concern
I get your point about beefing up the trenches
and it certainly doubled-down on comments from Schottenheimer this offseason
but I’m not sure it was as necessary as getting a wide receiver
Dallas signed several experienced free agents - Saahdiq Charles
and Hakeem Adeniji on offense; Solomon Thomas
and Payton Turner on defense - that offered better insurance in those areas than Mingo does at receiver
but I probably would’ve done things a little differently
Giants still hovering near bottom in post-draft NFL power rankings - Big Blue ViewDespite adding a potential franchise quarterback and bolstering their defense in the 2025 NFL Draft

NFC East 2025 draft grades: Giants edition - PhillyVoiceHey

I also liked the two athletic upside plays in Fidone and Black in the seventh round
Really the only player who was “overdrafted” was Dart
Even if Dart eventually flames out in spectacular fashion
he at least buys some short-term hope from the fan base
and there’s some value in that for a team that
has the worst record in the NFL since 2017
And if Dart ultimately turns out to be a good starter
then the cost to go get him will seem like peanuts

Subscribe to the Australia Briefing newsletter on what you need to know from the region
The result is a major victory for Albanese
who had been trailing the Coalition in opinion polls for months and was widely expected to be forced into minority government at this election
However a bounce back in opinion polling following the start of the campaign saw the prime minister’s stocks rise
The result solidifies Albanese’s legacy as a hero in the Labor Party and will give him authority to stamp his mark on the government and the country
there has been a redistribution of electorates by the independent Australian Electoral Commission
There are now 150 seats to be won — 46 in New South Wales
three in the Australian Capital Territory and two in the Northern Territory
Both New South Wales and Victoria had a seat abolished (one held by Labor
one held by an independent lawmaker) while Western Australia had a new seat created

especially in the major city of Alice Springs
0%25%25% Albanese has worked hard to hold this seat

Bloomberg marks a party as leading a particular seat if the two-candidate preferred vote margin is greater than 100 and if the leading two-candidate-preferred candidate has more than 53% of the vote share
Seats that do not meet these criteria will be shown as ‘awaiting results’ on the map
Bloomberg will not call seats until they are declared by the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC)
the AEC re-evaluates the two-candidate preferred data for certain districts if the initial candidate selection was incorrect
party seat counts may temporarily decrease
and the map above will show the electorate as undecided
Data for these districts is usually reinstated within a few hours

“I’m so happy for my kids. They’ve earned where they are today,” Texas head coach Vic Schaefer told the Associated Press on Monday

Schaefer’s team is 27-2 with its next test coming Thursday night against a familiar foe: Mississippi State
where Schaefer spent eight seasons before heading back home to coach at Texas
The decision to leave at the end of the 2019-20 season was a tough one for Schaefer
especially after building a perennial national championship contender in Starkville
The Bulldogs finished as national runners-up in 2017 and 2018
“It was a calling,” Schaefer told reporters in 2020 about his decision to return to Austin
an opportunity you just can’t walk away from.”
Much like he did at Mississippi State, Schaefer has built Texas into a national powerhouse and championship contender, reaching the Elite Eight three times already in his four-plus seasons. Texas rewarded him last week with a three-year contract extension
Schaefer has garnered a reputation for being outspoken about his faith in God and caring deeply for his players
and go Dawgs.” He’s kept that up
but instead has swapped out the ending phrase to “Hook ‘Em Horns.”
Even after his team fell to North Carolina State in the Elite Eight last season, he gave God glory in defeat in a post on X
You have to give God the glory in victory and give Him the glory in defeat. He had His hands on this team from day one. His influence and guidance throughout this season was so evident to me. Our steps are numbered. His will. We will be back. Get ready! #Response #PTL&HH
— Vic Schaefer (@CoachVic_UT) April 1, 2024
Schaefer has also said many times that he believes God has him where he is at in that specific time for a specific reason
and he believed it when he was as Mississippi State
It was an unfamiliar community where he and his family didn’t really know anyone
but he kept his faith in God that he was there for a reason
“I have to fall back on my Christian background and beliefs,” he said in a 2019 interview with Pine Lake Church in Starkville
but you’ve got to believe in something bigger than that
Five years later we were in the national championship game
To know where we were five years ago to where we are today
it’s hard to do in college athletics and to do it that fast.”
this is not just about winning basketball games,” he added
“This is about getting these young ladies ready for the real world
I’m really proud that I think we do a great job of that.”
Schaefer’s coaching philosophy stems from his faith in God
“I can’t be that person that people look to for answers without His divine intervention,” he told Pine Lake
our flesh sometimes doesn’t look at Him and we think we can do it
I’ve learned really quick that I can’t
I can’t imagine living in this world not having a Lord and Savior and having faith in what that means.”
Schaefer’s approach and demeanor has remained the same at Texas
and he’s still preaching the same values to his players about being accountable and prepared for the real world
“I talk to our kids all the time about making time after a game, doing what we do when the game’s over, going out to the stands and taking pictures, signing autographs,” Schaefer told On SI last week
“It may be the same person each game in every game
but you just never know what that impact is going to be on that young person
putting us in this position that we’re in here at the University of Texas
I believe that we need to do our part in trying to make a positive impact on young people.”
Texas and Mississippi State (19-9) tip off at 7:30 p.m

The Indiana Pacers have improved on their regular-season record each of the three full seasons star guard Tyrese Haliburton has been with the franchise
A year ago they made the postseason for the first time in four years
won a playoff series for the first time since 2014
and advanced all the way to the NBA’s Eastern Conference Finals
with a 50-32 regular-season record and the No
Haliburton and the Pacers are positioned for another deep playoff run
Haliburton had a relatively quiet game in Indiana’s 117-98 Game 1 victory Saturday against its first-round opponent
yet still nearly compiled a triple-double; he scored 10 points
dished out 12 assists and snagged seven rebounds

— Indiana Pacers (@Pacers) April 19, 2025
Drafted No. 12 overall by the Sacramento Kings out of Iowa State in 2020, Haliburton was traded to the Pacers mid-way through the 2021-22 season. In Indiana, he’s become one of the best passers in the NBA and a two-time All-Star (2023, 2024). He averaged 9.2 assists per game this regular season (the third-most in the league) in addition to his 18.6 points
Haliburton was a member of Team USA’s gold medal-winning basketball team at the 2024 Paris Olympics, and as his fame has grown, he’s continued to speak about the importance of faith in his life. At a press conference earlier this month, he was asked about the chapel services NBA teams hold before games
“Chapel is a big part of my game-day routine,” Haliburton said. “It started my rookie year with Harrison Barnes
… That 15-20 minutes I get every day to step aside and talk about what really matters — which is my Lord and Savior — I think it’s very important for me
I think we’ve built a little bit of a community within our locker room too.”
“It’s a super cool thing that we do here in the NBA and I always appreciate it
So (chapel has) been a big part of my success and
but I know that coming back to the [Bible]
coming back to my peace really there always makes me feel at peace and knowing the bigger picture.”
Haliburton writes “To Him be the glory forever” in his X bio
and this summer in an interview with GQ said his Bible was the first of 10 items he can’t live without
“Over the last two years, my religion has become very important in my life,” he said in the video
“Just understanding that I’m made in the image of God
in a world where you have a bad game and they’re killing you on social media
Haliburton admitted he’s never truly read the Bible until recent years
knowing only the isolated verses athletes commonly reference
God has been at work in his heart to draw him closer to Himself
“Growing up we didn’t go to church a lot, but we understood God’s place in our lives,” Haliburton told NBA.com last year
“Now that I’m an adult I guess — I own a house now and live on my own — I go to church on Sunday every chance I can
God has even used Haliburton’s life as a witness to his own parents
“Tyrese is humble and very blessed,” John told Andscape in December 2023
“We give God the praise and the glory
Tyrese is nothing without the mercy of God
Tip-off for Game 2 between the Bucks and Haliburton’s Pacers is set for Tuesday at 7 p.m
as Indiana will try to secure a commanding two-game lead in the best-of-seven series
And one thing is for certain: 60 minutes before tip
Sarah Ashlee Barker did everything she could to leave a lasting impression on WNBA talent evaluators in her final college game
The Alabama guard scored 45 points on just 25 shots and went 4-of-6 from 3-point range in a double-overtime loss to Maryland in the second round of the NCAA Tournament
She scored the Crimson Tide’s final seven points in regulation — including a go-ahead 3-pointer with 37 seconds left — to get the game to overtime
With no time remaining on the clock in the first overtime
Barker calmly nailed three free throws to keep Alabama alive
She accounted for her team’s last four points in the second overtime period too

The L.A. Sparks were impressed enough to take Barker with the ninth overall pick in Monday’s WNBA Draft
A post shared by The Los Angeles Sparks (@la_sparks)
“There’s so many great players in the W,” Barker said in her press conference
“I’m so excited for the competition
and so I’m just ready to start that next chapter.”
Barker spent her first two seasons at Georgia before returning home to play for the Crimson Tide — the school her father
quarterbacked to a national championship in 1992
She was a first-team All-SEC selection her final two years at Alabama
assists (3.9) and field goal percentage (51.4%) as a fifth-year senior
Throughout her time speaking with the media Monday night
Barker repeatedly mentioned her gratefulness
That largely stems from a time at 13 years old when she had to undergo two knee surgeries
“When I was in eighth grade I had a knee injury that could have taken me away from the game of basketball,” she said
I couldn’t run for nine months and I was out for a whole year or over a year
So for me to even be able to step on the floor
I’m just so grateful that I just have the opportunity to continue playing.”
Guiding Barker along her journey to the WNBA has also been a strong faith in God. She often references her faith on social media and publicly shares about the important role it plays in her life
A post shared by Sarah Ashlee Barker (@sarahashlee7)
after her 45-point performance in the NCAA Tournament
she was asked how she prepared to take those free throws with Alabama’s season on the line
Barker said she found peace knowing it was all in God’s hands
“The Lord is who I look to for my strength, my peace,” she said
… That’s exactly what I went to
And that’s my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”

— Sports Spectrum (@Sports_Spectrum) March 25, 2025
Even though Barker could have declared for the draft last year
she always planned on using all of her college eligibility
“I think college athletics is huge, and it’s a lot of fun,” she told The Crimson White in 2023
I want to be able to stay in college as long as I can
There’s really no thought process other than ‘I have another year
I’m going to take it,’ and whatever happens
I really put no thought into it because I trust in Him.”
Sarah Ashlee Barker led Alabama in scoring for the second straight season and was a 2x All-SEC First Team selection. She dropped a program-record 45 PTS against Maryland in the 2025 NCAA Tournament. This season, she averaged 18.2 PTS, 6.3 REB, and 3.9… pic.twitter.com/D3kdhiecYu
— WNBA (@WNBA) April 11, 2025
After her college career came to an end, Barker posted a letter on Instagram reflecting on her journey and thanking everyone who has supported her along the way
She then officially declared for the WNBA Draft and once again pointed to her trust in God’s plan
“I cannot wait to see what the Lord has in store for me!!” Barker wrote
A post shared by Sarah Ashlee Barker (@sarahashlee7)
She ended the post with the same Bible verse she writes on her wrist before games
I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
As she prepares to enter the next chapter of her story
Barker knows that God is ultimately in control and will be guiding her every step of the way
“I just know that whatever God has for my life, that’s how my story is going to be written and I’m not writing it. God is,” Barker told the Shelby County Reporter last month
“The only thing that I can control is how hard I work and how much effort I put into the game
but I can’t control the wins and the losses
Barker and the Sparks will play a preseason game May 6 against the WNBA’s expansion franchise
will also face for its regular-season opener May 16
This year’s recipient was former NBA player, current TMI Episcopal basketball coach, and 2022 NBA Coach of the Year Monty Williams

The award is presented each year at a Keys to Life breakfast hosted by the sports ministry Athletes in Action
and honors legendary UCLA coach John Wooden
said in a press release that “Athletes in Action is honored to name Monty Williams as the recipient of the 2025 Coach John Wooden ‘Keys to Life’ Award
Monty exemplifies the character and leadership that was so important to Coach Wooden
making a difference in the lives of athletes off the court
Williams has served as head coach at college preparatory school TMI Episcopal in San Antonio
shortly after he accepted his new position at TMI Episcopal
and trusting in God’s timing in the midst of grief
“My coaching model is servant leadership,” Williams said on the podcast
‘I’m here to serve you and love you
… It’s my job to call you up to your potential
and I hope to do that with a level of service
humanity and dignity that allows for you to see Christ in me.'”
we’re just a bunch of skin and bones,” Williams added
“… I can do nothing without the Holy Spirit
He said that, at the age of 10, Christ brought him to Himself through an invitation to church from a football coach. Despite a rough upbringing in Prince George’s County, Maryland, the temptations of NBA fame and money, and the tragic loss of his wife in a car accident in 2016, nothing could separate him from God’s love
As Williams has been renewed by God’s sustaining grace throughout the years
he’s become a spiritual mentor to numerous NBA players
He often prays with his teams and shares the Gospel with others
offering to them the only true hope in this world
“The Bible says [God] chooses the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; I am that foolish thing,” he said on the podcast
I should be in jail or doing something else that’s really unproductive
And by His grace and mercy — it hasn’t been easy
really hard stuff in my life — but He’s been so gracious to bring me and my family through it all

“We don’t have any quit and I feel like as long as there’s time on the clock, we’re going to give ourselves a good chance to win as long as we just stay the course and keep taking it possession by possession,” Richard said in the postgame press conference
“So I just like our resiliency and how we fought through adversity throughout the game.”
Moments after raising the championship trophy, Richard posted on X
— Will Richard (@willrxch) April 8, 2025
He also has John 13:7 tattooed on his lower right arm, and he puts Ephesians 3:20 in his Instagram bio
Richard was asked by CBN Sports at the Final Four what that latter verse means to him
“Just knowing that God can do exceedingly and abundantly above anything that you ever asked or thought about,” he said
“So just knowing that when you have God on your side
It’s just a confidence and boldness just knowing that.”
Even his jersey number is a nod to his faith
“Five in the Bible is talked about as having God’s grace, so I wear it just knowing that God’s grace is upon me,” he recently told “The Walk” podcast
so it definitely brought me back to times when I played as a kid.”
Richard was the first player to commit to head coach Todd Golden and his staff after they took over in March 2022
Richard started 30 games and averaged 12.1 points and 6.0 rebounds as a freshman for Belmont before transferring after the 2021-22 season
He’s averaged 10 points or more each of his three seasons in Gainesville
“Will Richard is an elite culture setter for a program,” Golden said in a press conference prior to the Sweet 16
Soon after joining the Gators, Richard spoke with His Huddle in 2022
recognizing his platform as an elite college basketball player gave him a chance to tell people about Jesus
“I just hope when people see me play they know it’s all God,” Richard told His Huddle
“Everything I’m able to do on the court comes from Him and without Him I’d be nothing.”
A post shared by His Huddle (@his_huddle)
“I grew up in a family that always had God as number one
so faith has always been an important part of my life
My family really emphasized having a relationship with God even from a young age,” he told His Huddle
That translated over to the basketball court as well
“Faith plays a huge part in my basketball career,” he said
“Just knowing that all my gifts come from God makes me want to work much harder and give Him the glory every time I step on the court.”
Richard said he saw growth as a person and as a believer during his freshman year at Belmont
“I would say my faith really got stronger my freshman year of college because I was on my own so I couldn’t just go to church with my parents every week,” he said
“I had to take the time out myself to spend time with God
Learning how to make time on my own really benefited me and allowed me to get closer to Him.”
Richard will look to the NBA Draft on June 25
He’s not projected as a lock to be selected
but his defense and shooting — as he showed Monday night — could transfer well to the next level

He could often be seen trailed by his dog Allie or with his cat AJ purring on his chest as he napped
He was a lifelong learner with extensive mechanical and construction knowledge
Vic worked as a cook in his young adult years and continued to share his love for cooking at many gatherings
feeling most at peace on the water or in a deer stand

As the group of draft prospects took their swings at the Las Vegas Topgolf last Tuesday night, Raiders general manager John Spytek and coach Pete Carroll were keeping track of how everyone was interacting more than if they could hit a target with a golf ball
There were three quarterbacks — Jaxson Dart
Quinn Ewers and Will Howard — among the seven top college prospects in town for visits that serve as a last in-person contact before the NFL Draft on April 24-26
and are believed by executives and agents around the league to be targeting a quarterback as early as Round 2
While this QB class is not up to par with last year’s
and five could go over the first two nights of the draft
with Ole Miss’ Dart and Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe going with the first two picks of the second round
That would leave the Raiders with a choice of Texas’ Ewers
Louisville’s Tyler Shough or waiting to see if one fell to No
Carroll does have the full scouting report on Ewers
as he was a mentor to Texas coach Steve Sarkisian at USC
Ewers led the Longhorns to rare road wins at Alabama and Michigan
and while he was not as sharp in 2024 as he was in 2023
he did play through an oblique strain and a high ankle sprain and still threw for 3,472 yards
31 touchdowns and 12 interceptions while a talented roster helped him get to the national semifinals
Sarkisian was an offensive coordinator with the Atlanta Falcons for two years
and he thinks Ewers is better prepared for the next level than the other prospects
“I know what we asked of him protection-wise
I know what we asked of him from a progression standpoint and concepts and reading coverages and things of that nature
I think he almost translates better to that league when everybody around him is playing that same brand and same style of football.”
Ewers did find someone with the same drive — and no
He was asked last week which NFL coach he would like to play for
“Coach Carroll would be awesome,” Ewers said on “The Rich Eisen Show.” “He’s always talking about
Compete.’ I think he probably says that word 100 times a day
and it would be super cool to be part of a program … that they live and die by how they compete
I feel like that’s kinda how I already live.”
There are some experts who are more in-between on the 6-foot-2
214-pound Ewers as a prospect and feel like he should have done more with some of the best receivers in college football
“Ewers has a really good arm when he’s healthy — which he almost never was,” said Nick Baumgardner
“He’s small and a solid athlete who made plays but also never seemed to get everything out of the talent he was surrounded by
an NFL backup who might be able to win some games if he’s surrounded by a lot of talent
“He’s built like Bo Nix but I don’t think he’s as smart. He reminds me more of Spencer Rattler.”
and the league gets the green light from teams before sending those out so there is a very good chance he is gone by No
The Raiders could also just go with the bold best-player-available strategy in Round 2 like they are expected to use in Round 1
when there is a good chance they end up with Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty
Michigan defensive tackle Mason Graham or LSU offensive tackle Will Campbell — three other members of the Topgolf crew (the fourth was Michigan linebacker Josaiah Stewart but he is projected to go in the fourth round)
there might be a familiar face waiting for them in the fourth round
That’s where Brugler has the Raiders taking Howard

STARKVILLE — Mississippi State women’s basketball’s home game Thursday versus Texas already carries significance
The Bulldogs (19-9, 6-8 SEC) and third-year coach Sam Purcell are fighting to secure an NCAA tournament bid
It’s also the final home game of the regular season
A victory for MSU would almost certainly lock it into March Madness
The game also marks the return of Vic Schaefer
the Texas coach who led Mississippi State to some of its best seasons in program history
SEC Network+) will be Schaefer’s first game back at Humphrey Coliseum since he left for the Texas job five years ago
"Vic's been in this business for many years
Here’s what to know about Schaefer’s return to MSU
got his first head coaching gig at Sam Houston State from 1990-97
He then worked as an assistant at Arkansas and Texas A&M
Mississippi State was his next head coaching job when he was hired in 2012
His first season at MSU did not go well after he replaced the retired Sharon Fanning-Otis
The Bulldogs went 13-17 in Schaefer’s first season
but that wasn’t enough to reach the NCAA tournament
Schaefer brought Mississippi State to the NCAA tournament in his third season
then lost to South Carolina in the national championship game the next season
Mississippi State knocked off UConn in overtime of the national semifinals on a buzzer beater by Morgan William
ending the Huskies’ 111-game winning streak
but lost again one win away from a national championship
Mississippi State had another great run in 2019-20 at 27-6
but COVID ended the season before the NCAA tournament
He cited it as “a chance to come home.” Schaefer was born in Austin and attended Texas A&M
is in her third season as an assistant coach at Texas and played for him at Mississippi State from 2014-18
Schaefer said he still owns two farms in the Starkville area
"Those eight years that we spent there are the eight best years of the Schaefer family's lives," he said on Tuesday
"Both my kids are graduates from Mississippi State
great success there and still have so many good friends there."
but she resigned a month before her second season citing health reasons
Doug Novak was the interim coach for the season until Purcell was hired
How has Vic Schaefer done at Texas?Schaefer has been successful at Texas
reaching the Elite Eight in three of his first four seasons
he hasn’t brought the Longhorns to the national championship game like he did with Mississippi State
This could be the season it happens though. Texas is No. 1 in the USA TODAY Coaches Poll for the first time in program history with its only losses to Notre Dame and South Carolina
It beat South Carolina in a rematch on Feb

This is particularly good news for anyone who's ever braved the lunch or dinner rush for a taste of their legendary cochon de lait po'boy
Vic and Al's
the brainchild of Nic Patrizi (of Patrizi's just down the road)
has been serving up authentic Cajun fare since 2019
the restaurant has quickly become an Austin favorite
The core menu boasts mouthwatering options like roasted pork
including their rich gumbo or potato salad
which offers refreshing cocktails like the cucumber gin-infused Sabine Pass
But here's the rub: Vic and Al's operates as a counter-service establishment and doesn't take reservations
combined with the sheer popularity of their rotating dishes
The expansion means more space to savor those spicy
and a better chance to snag a table during peak hours
hoping someone will finally abandon their po'boy
whether you're a die-hard regular or a newcomer eager to try some real Cajun cooking
there's now even more reason to head down to Manor Road
Just be prepared to loosen your belt a notch

do some drills to the side and worked out with the off-ball linebackers
Campbell went with the off-ball linebackers
they talked up his pass-rush ability off the edge
but it appears like they’re going to start him off in the linebacker room
Campbell took shadow reps about 10 yards behind the players who were actually practicing."
This is an interesting note as we figure out the Eagles' plan for Campbell
especially since many initially assumed the Eagles would plug him in as a replacement for Josh Sweat
it’s still way too early to know exactly how the team plans to use him.
Campbell is a super versatile linebacker who can pretty much do it all
which is important in Vic Fangio's defense and a big reason the Eagles traded up to get him in the first round
Campbell showed he could fly around the field
He takes the jump to the NFL following a breakout 2024 season with the Crimson Tide that really highlighted his versatility
including 11.5 tackles for loss and 5 sacks
It was also revealed that Campbell will wear jersey No

After a late night on Saturday, Texas women's basketball coach Vic Schaefer wasn't interested in a Monday matinee

London Terrific performances from Chris O’Dowd and Rosie Sheehy lead a populous family drama hinging on a broken-down country farmhouse
with a plot involving a family reuniting in the countryside to feud over the ownership of land and inheritance
There are elements of the American family dysfunction drama too
though this is distinctly Irish in its cadence
each influence is valid and every idea is a good one but together the play seems to swing on its hinges
We are in the rural depths of County Sligo in 1981
inside a household run by two siblings: the stoic Stephen (Brian Gleeson)
and the eccentric and autistic Billie (Rosie Sheehy)
They are marooned on the down-at-heel farm
just about making ends meet until their wealthier brother
His presence coincides with the arrival of an old blind uncle and former clergyman (Seán McGinley) who has been ejected from church quarters and now shuffles into the family home with his housekeeper
with a dispute over the farm’s ownership – though this plot point does not emerge until late on
The pace is too easy in the first half, as the flotsam and jetsam of family life float by. There is a good Chekhovian mix of melancholy and humour in the cross-conversational currents between family members, but it all needs more momentum and emotional drive. The second half brings more intensity but also a plot that feels stretched to aburdism: there is a miracle in the vein of the biblical Bartimaeus (the blind beggar from Jericho) alongside the falling out and making up over inheritance.
The mystical element sits well within the plotline of the magic water but becomes pronounced and protruding when characters talk about God and nothingness. You get the sense of a playwright preoccupied by big questions about the afterlife (with repeated mentions of reincarnation and the Ganges) but this sometimes sounds non sequitur in the mouths of his characters.
There are none of the explosions of an American dysfunction drama here and angry face-offs between siblings steer close to the humorous and absurd.
Sibling ribbing sometimes combusts into something more; there is wrestling between brothers, the lone sister is one of the “lads”, and home truths are occasionally spoken, or shouted, but you wish these scenes would dig into a few more nerves.
Read moreStill, there are heaps of charm and a few searing moments. McPherson’s last work at the Old Vic was the musical Girl from the North Country
Lovely dramatic interludes feature piano music
An incredibly strong cast is gathered: O’Dowd is a delight as the family’s self-regarding eldest brother and Sheehy
She plays a largely comic character but infuses Billie with great emotion
The idea of love and its yearning is shown with delicacy
from the farmhand (Eimhin Fitzgerald Doherty) who is sweet on Billie
to the sexual undercurrents that swirl around Stephen and Lydia
conjuring a vivid sense of place but also carrying a certain otherworldly magic
as if it is about to enter into the sublime
but is strangely dragged down by too many elements jostling to take flight
At the Old Vic, London
Vic Schaefer will continue to lead the Texas women's basketball program for the foreseeable future
the Texas Board of Regents will be asked to approve a contract extension for Schaefer
Schaefer's current deal at Texas takes him through the 2026-27 season
but this proposed deal adds three years to his contract
Schaefer's extension does not add any money to the years currently on his contract
He would receive slight raises for the three seasons in the amended deal and the final year would come with a salary of $2.6 million
Schaefer's deal may be considered a bargain to the Texas accountants. ESPN reported last month that South Carolina coach Dawn Staley's new extension came with a $4-million salary and annual escalators
UConn's Geno Auriemma and LSU's Kim Mulkey both make more than $3 million
Auriemma and Mulkey are three of the four active women's basketball coaches who have won a national championship
Schaefer is in the midst of his fifth season at Texas
He has led the Longhorns to a 134-34 record and three Elite Eight appearances
and the third-ranked Longhorns are currently tied with South Carolina for first place in the SEC standings with an 11-1 mark in conference play
It's still the arena covered in quotes, filled with trophies and painted with pictures of coach Dawn Staley
Schaefer has been Texas' coach since 2020 and the Longhorns have never played in Columbia
but he was Mississippi State's coach for eight years before that
6 Texas square off in a top 10 matchup with No
it'll be just like old times for the two coaches
they're going to make it hard for you to inbound the ball
they're going to pressure defense you and he's going to find offensively who should shoot the ball
he's got all the keys to winning the national championship."
South Carolina beat Mississippi State 67-55 in the NCAA championship game for Staley's first title
the Bulldogs and Gamecocks were the only two SEC Tournament champions
Mississippi State won in 2019 but the other six years went to South Carolina
Schaefer won SEC Coach of the Year in 2018 and 2019
in addition to being named named the Naismith National Coach of the Year in 2018 and the espnW National Coach of the Year in 2019
Staley accepted her fourth Naismith National Coach of the Year award
Staley is 13-3 overall against Schaefer's teams
the two coached against each other in 2021 in the Elite Eight where the Gamecocks won 62-34
Only one player from either team's current roster played in 2021
Shay Holle was a freshman when Texas lost to an entirely different South Carolina team
Staley said this week on the "Carolina Calls" radio show that she can see how Schaefer's style of coaching and play at Texas mirrors his Mississippi State teams
Texas is built around sophomore forward Madison Booker
and is averaging six rebounds and 3.1 assists
"He's very similar to what he was at Mississippi State
he's probably got a more talented roster so he's got a lot more to work with," Staley said
Texas is the only home-and-home series for South Carolina this season
who thinks the Gamecocks will benefit having the Longhorns in the SEC
"Thankfully they are in our league because you can continue to measure yourself where you are as far as nationally and how close you are to winning the national championship," Staley said

Texas — The University of Texas System Board of Regents approved a three-year contract extension for women’s basketball coach Vic Schaefer through the 2029-2030 season
is in his fifth season at Texas and has led the Longhorns to three Elite Eight finishes
2 and tied for first in the Southeastern Conference as the Longhorns contend to be one of the four No
Schaefer’s current annual base salary of $2.3 million remains the same through the 2026-27 season

Four years ago, Vic Schaefer became the women's head coach at Texas
The 2024-25 season will be his 40thseason in coaching
Not only does all that experience make Schaefer the elite
caring family man that wants nothing but the best for the team
Schaefer started his career as a high school coach at Milby High School in 1985 and became the assistant men's coach at Sam Houston State in 1987
He later became the head women's coach for the university in 1990
From Arkansas to Texas A&M to Mississippi State
Schaefer had the responsibility of helping teams reach their full potential
"I take great pride in how hard my kids play," Schaefer said
Schaefer came to Texas in 2020 after a successful eight seasons with the Mississippi State Bulldogs leading them to a pair of national championship games
the Longhorns have gone to the NCAA Elite Eight three years
winning either a Big 12 regular season or tournament championship each year
Schaefer is 109-32 in four seasons at Texas and has won over 400 games as a head coach
it means fighting alongside the team on the court
"One thing that's remarkable about him that people should know is he puts us through the fire," sophomore forward Madison Booker said
He makes it known that he's in the fire with us."
it means being someone that the team can depend on for anything
you can call Coach Schaefer with something
and he's gonna be right there," Booker said
Senior forward Taylor Jones also spoke about how devoted Schaefer is to the team
even if it's stuff that we can't see," Jones said
"I know that he's always advocating for us and fighting for us
He takes us out on a boat weekend or a lake weekend
and that's really fun to see everyone outside of basketball
Schaefer's hobbies don't stop at lake days. He also loves to go fishing, or "catching," as senior forward Aaliyah Moore revealed
"He'll catch fish for us and he'll clean it and give it to us," Moore said
and we'll come over to their house and have a big cook out."
Teammates shared that one of the most lovable things about Coach Schaefer
is his unintentional use of quotes to guide the team
"I think someone was guarding someone way too close
'you're stuck on them like a mosquito on a cow,' or something like that," Jones said
"And he's yelling this stuff and is actually being serious
And I'm sitting there trying not to die laughing because I'm like
Coach Schaefer knows the balance between challenging and caring
and it has undoubtedly made Texas women's basketball the powerhouse it is today
When looking back on all his years of coaching
Schaefer shared the advice he wishes he could tell himself 40 seasons ago
"I think the best advice is advice my wife gave me early in our marriage
and it's simply this: If they don't like you
they ain't gonna play hard for you," Schaefer said
"And that doesn't mean you have to be their best friend
Doesn't mean you have to go hang out to club with them
What it means is they gotta know you care about them
Thanks for visiting

The way Lady Vols coach Kim Caldwell makes substitutions has been discussed on nearly every television broadcast this season
Caldwell's system of pressing full court for 40 minutes requires a lot of substitutions
and she typically subs full lineups every two minutes
Schaefer addressed what he called a storyline of Tennessee's subbing on Wednesday in a radio interview
"My kids take a lot of pride in their toughness
"We as a staff take great pride in the job we do with these kids
So whether you play like we do and certain kids play a lot of minutes and some kids
we feel like we have great chemistry with certain players
So we don't really make that big a deal about it
Schaefer brought up one of his former players at Mississippi State
He said when he used to sub her out of games
she'd ask him why she was getting pulled from the game
"I've got some competitors like that on my team now
they love playing the game," Schaefer said
we feel really good about our conditioning and where we are."
SWEET 16: Lady Vols trusted 'a winner is a winner' when Kim Caldwell was hired. Now they're in Sweet 16
SEC Player of the Year Madison Booker averages 31.1 minutes for Texas
senior guard Shay Holle averages 26 and senior forward Taylor Jones averages 21.3
The rest of the team averages under 20 minutes per game
"I know it's a big storyline for them and how they play and their philosophy," Schaefer said
the hockey substitution deal's not really a topic of conversation – other than when the horn sounds

Safety Tristin McCollum said Fangio stopped the film at one point and circled a defensive player
This guy’s done it right every single time up to this point
and just because the lights are a little bit brighter
you feel like you have to step outside yourself
Fangio warned the players of all the upcoming week’s distractions
the celebrities they’d see on the sidelines
and suddenly they’d find themselves behind
“Don’t make the game bigger than it is,” nickel safety Cooper DeJean repeated
“Don’t act out of character,” defensive tackle Thomas Booker recalled
“Don’t allow the spectacle of this game to cloud your mind and cloud your judgment.”
Four days later, the Eagles boarded the plane for their trip to New Orleans. They landed in a city where Fangio must manage his memories. They entered the Superdome, a stadium filled to the brim with stories. It’s where Fangio began his NFL career in 1986 as a linebackers coach on Jim Mora’s staff with the Saints
It’s where the 49ers fell to the Ravens 11 years ago
It’s where Fangio leaned against an on-field railing during the league’s grand opening on Monday night
watching as his players were surrounded by the very spectacle he’d forewarned
“I think for the most part they’ll do a good job with that.”
'Hard to comprehend': Eagles' defensive rookie duo on surreal journey to Super Bowl
there’s a shared feeling across Philadelphia’s defensive staff to win a Super Bowl for the old-school coordinator who isn’t often sentimental
let alone for everyone else,” King said along the Superdome sidelines on Monday night
“But just to kind of stamp his career a little bit in being one of the all-time great defensive minds that’s ever been.”
King joined the Eagles last offseason after coaching inside linebackers for the Tennessee Titans
Fangio revealed during the season that he actually hadn’t known much about King upon hiring him
that he’d relied on “a couple of guys that I trust.” It was no small hire
spending nine seasons coaching the position group in New Orleans before securing his first defensive coordinator job with the Carolina Panthers in 1995
a linebackers coach previously with the Titans
Fangio had established his uncommon in-game operation in which Fangio
who sits up in the coach’s booth on game days
dictated his play calls through his headset to King
was the coach who’d communicate the calls to their linebackers through their helmet radios
It’s a somewhat unwieldy process — one that Baun said was a bit shaky until they adjusted
Fangio didn’t disclose the reason behind his method (“I guess you can’t teach an old dog new tricks,” he said)
But at the very least it signaled Fangio’s empowerment of King by maintaining continuity: King was the one coaching the linebackers in practice; he’d also be the voice inside their head
So what was it like calling plays this year
distancing himself from the defense’s actual authority
How Eagles GM Howie Roseman has gone from firing chants to Philly royalty
King can own shared credit for the most unlikely development of the year
burgeoned into a Defensive Player of the Year candidate despite never playing inside linebacker before in his life
It’s arguable Baun’s full dominance began in the Superdome
Baun struggled against cut blocks until he led the Eagles with 13 tackles while holding his former team to 89 rushing yards in a 15-12 win in which the Eagles didn’t score until the fourth quarter
That Sunday fused the past and the present for Fangio
He’d overseen the famed “Dome Patrol” linebacker corps that included Hall of Famers Sam Mills and Rickey Jackson
burgeoning into the sort of story Fangio’s assistants love telling
was a former defensive line coach for the Eagles and Titans
said he grew up with a Dome Patrol poster on his wall
when Fangio first joined the Eagles as a consultant during the 2022 postseason
he stepped into Washburn’s office and tossed him another poster
“He’s not into those gestures,” Washburn said
Washburn is also familiar with Fangio’s mind
overlapped with Fangio’s tenure on John Harbaugh’s staff from 2006 until 2008
They reunited with the Chicago Bears in 2017
when Washburn spent one season as the team’s offensive line coach
Washburn was repeatedly influenced by a point of view he called “Scranton Simple” (Fangio is a Dunmore
native) — a “common-sense lens” that Fangio forged under Mora and maintains in Philly
Washburn said the organization’s scouting department placed a certain value on different positions — as most teams do
supplied them with suggestions using a simplified datapoint: Well
we won X amount of games with this guy out of the lineup
and we won Y amount of games with this other guy out of the lineup
“He was just very pragmatic about it all,” Washburn said
“And I really carried a lot of that with me
Consider how the Eagles have deployed their defensive front in 2024
general manager Howie Roseman prefers to operate with a consistent rotation to keep defenders fresh
But Jalen Carter totaled more than 89 percent of the defense’s snaps in eight regular-season games
Nolan Smith totaled more than 81 percent in three games following Brandon Graham’s injury and has missed only 37 snaps in the playoffs
There’s a temptation to scour statistics that detail the defense’s success with Carter and Smith both on the field: defensive EPA (0.10)
Can it just simply be Philadelphia’s record when Carter or Smith totaled more than 80 percent of the defense’s snaps (9-1)
Even Roseman has slightly altered his philosophy on rotations
“I’m probably a click lower on the importance of it than I was before,” Roseman said
The Eagles are playing in their fifth Super Bowl partly due to the defensive system the organization prefers
who called Fangio “one of the great defensive coordinators of all time,” recalled how the Eagles “were very disappointed” when they were unable to hire Fangio in the wake of Jonathan Gannon’s departure after Super Bowl LVII
then hired Fangio upon overhauling the 2023 defensive staff after a dysfunctional season
Fangio surrounded himself with significance when he returned to Pennsylvania
He’s a block away from where Veterans Stadium once stood
where he got his first start in pro football on Mora’s staff with the USFL’s Philadelphia Stars
He’s a game away from winning his first Super Bowl with the team he rooted for growing up
“I think this would mean the world to him,” defensive line coach Clint Hurtt said
But this would mean the world to him without a doubt.”
Hurtt grinned — perhaps hearing Fangio’s rebuttal in his head
“And if he tried to tell me I’m full of s—
surrounded by a stadium filled with significance
Fangio allowed himself to consider the sort of hypothetical he usually tries to ignore
