been in public use for over 40 years despite being on private land was instrumental in marketing homes built by Urbanizador Villamartín S.A. the construction company that owns the land has claimed nearly €3 million from Orihuela’s City Council for interest accrued due to the land’s occupation the High Court of Justice of the Valencian Community ruled in July 2021 that the land must be expropriated with compensation determined by an Expropriation Jury The jury initially valued the land at €1.2 million which the Orihuela Council allocated in September 2022 subsequent legal rulings deemed that different valuation criteria should apply raising the expropriation cost to nearly €1.9 million The construction company has appealed decisions to the High Court while the Council’s legal team argues that the revised valuation remains below the company’s original €2.2 million assessment The dispute has also sparked political criticism with opposition figures highlighting the additional €700,000 paid under the current administration The case underscores broader issues related to urban development and land disputes in Orihuela The company linked to the Villamartín road also holds interests in other municipal properties home to the Pedrera Martínez Foundation Museum in Orihuela centre which has been the subject of separate legal and negotiation efforts The decades-long conflict over Villamartín road exemplifies the complexities of urban planning and expropriation The resolution of this dispute will impact Orihuela’s public finances and its approach to managing private land opening of Eduardo’s La Plaza was a star-studded affair and proved a hit with the packed house who turned out for an evening of fine food excellent entertaining and an amazing atmosphere Mr Wright explained that Eduardo’s is his tribute to his dad “This is a personal thing [opening Eduardo’s] for me to do since my father passed away last year,” he explained I actually said to my dad that I was ready to open up that I wanted to open up another Olivia’s.” Eduardo’s was originally owned by Elliot’s father and the former TOWIE star pitched the idea of knocking the restaurants together on the Plaza so it “would be big enough for Olivia’s.” “He agreed and I actually made plans for it and showed him the renders So my dad got to see what I was going to do,” he said The plans that Mr Wright showed his dad before he passed actually when onto form the basis of his Olivia’s La Cala rebuild in Marbella after it was burned down in April 2021 “It has been such an emotional journey for me here because my dad knew I was going to do this it was originally going to be called Olivia’s La Plaza but after his passing Elliott explained that he learned everything he knew from his father’s tutelage after working his way up through the family business before appearing on TV.  He added: “If there was anything I could do for my dad then to prolong his legacy [this was it] Elliott worked tirelessly to bring his ‘party restaurant’ to Costa Blanca and completed the build in just seven weeks and two days provided the support needed for her husband to realise his dream of continuing his father’s legacy and admitted that the “lead up [to the opening] had been an absolute rollercoaster.” Sadie said that the restaurant was designed to have a party vibe and explained how hard her husband had worked up until the launch “What we’re going for here is a party vibe we want a mixture,” Sadie exclusively told Euro Weekly News “We watch grandfathers with their children on the dance floor and that’s what we like “[Elliott] has worked every hour under the sun but he’s pulled it out of the bag,” she said Sadie spoke passionately about the vision for the restaurant and revealed that the inspiration behind the idea was from the couple’s own holiday experiences “We would like somewhere that you can go and have a drink beforehand at the bar you can sit down and have a really lovely meal and go back to the bar “A lot of times you have to go to a restaurant and you leave to find a pub or where it gets busy it will suit everybody and people can spend their night.” The star of the opening night at Eduardo’s was undoubtedly TOWIE’s James Argent who lit up the crowd with some charismatic renditions of a few Frank Sinatra hits spoke exclusively to Euro Weekly News and praised Elliott before offering some insight into what he has planned for the future James revealed that he met Elliott when he was around 18 years old through his best friend Mark Wright (Elliott’s cousin) “I always heard about Elliott [through Mark] He spoke about him in high regard and that he was in Spain running restaurants and working with his dad,” he said “Mark always used to look up to him and I used to visit him in Spain before he came to England and went on TOWIE Arge said that he used to do “loads of gigs” at Olivia’s La Cala in Marbella and with the opening of Eduardo’s “we’re going to do something special here.” James said the opening of the restaurant in Villamartin was “fantastic.” Everyone enjoyed themselves and everyone was up on their feet dancing the night away He’s done everyone proud,” he said about his friend the fun-loving 34-year-old said that he would be spending time on his passion project “I plan on doing plenty more gigs over the summer now Eduardo’s is open and obviously more at Olivia’s La Cala,” he said That’s what I’m putting my passion into now I’m putting my heart and soul into it and I really love it.” I’m finally doing what I’ve always wanted to do.” Thank you for taking the time to read this article. on Facebook and Instagram As residents of Sun Golf Villas in Villamartin were being updated on recent developments last Wednesday CLARO’s Antonio Cerdan was speaking on the phone to the Orihuela Councillor for Infrastructure The councillor promised that he would visit the urbanisation within the following 48 hours stating that permission was already being sought from La Confederación Hidrográfica del Segura (CHS) to move problematic drainage which he assured would certainly help to alleviate the situation of the constant flooding The news was greeted with delight by the owners of the 31 properties built on the edge of Rambla de las Estacas who until recently have felt increasingly abandoned by both the Orihuela Council and the CHS “We are genuinely concerned that another heavy downpour could see a number of the houses losing even more of their gardens until in the very near future the properties themselves will crash away beneath us,” said owner Craig Campbell Clements “I live in constant fear while my daughter Abby is in continual panic mode Every time it rains we just can’t sleep and we inevitably end up sitting awake all night listening to every creak concerned that the next shower could see the back of the house disappearing into the barranco and my family with it Next door neighbour Russell Henderson meanwhile criticised both the CHS and the Orihuela Council saying that neither has provided any support to the residents “We have asked if we can carry out repair work ourselves only to be told by CHS that we will be breaking the law and could face heavy fines Yet they refuse to get involved themselves even though they are the national government agency responsible for all public water-courses in the area of which the barranco is just one.” Mr Henderson insisted the authorities need to take ownership of the problem SEE ALSO: Villamartin houses near to collapse Villamartin properties near to collapse Peter Houghton of the Partido Independencia Orihuela Costa told the Leader that the situation could have been quickly resolved many months ago and all the stress caused to the residents avoided had the Ayuntamiento or the CHS acted swiftly but once again it is a case of ‘out of sight and out of mind’ as it tends to be with anything that is required to be done on the coast A number of the homes are now teetering on the edge of the ravine The residents have to put up with the constant smell of leaking sewage and a corner of the communal pool area is dangerously exposed underneath “If we have any more rain and it erodes further the weight of the water in the swimming pool could bring the whole thing crashing down,” Mr Henderson added “One British couple whose patio was torn in half are too scared to return to their property.” is working on behalf of Craig Campbell Clements but despite regular contact with both the Orihuela Town Hall and the CHS but he too has seen absolutely no progress However CLARO reported that they have also brought the matter to the attention of the mayor “The Alcalde has agreed to meet with representatives of the urbanisation next week,” Antonio Cerdan told the residents He will be in Orihuela Costa and he has invited 2 or 3 of the owners to brief him on the current situation.” thanks to the English Language press and CLARO the authorities are being made aware of our situation We are nowhere near the end of our living nightmare just yet,” said Mr Henderson “but at long last the authorities are at least aware of Eduardo’s in Costa Blanca’s Villamartin is an extension of Marbella’s Olivia’s La Cala Combining a fine dining experience with celebrity guests and live entertainment had Orihuela Costa hopping on Wednesday Mr Wright explained that Eduardo’s was a tribute to his dad Eduardo’s was originally owned by Elliott’s father and the 42-year-old pitched him the idea of knocking the “restaurants together on the Plaza” so it “would be big enough for Olivia’s.” The wonderful three-course meal fuelled diners for the fun-filled dance floor-shaking entertainment on offer which included performances from X-Factor singer Gary Barker Marbella’s Masquerade Duo and TOWIE star James Argent spoke exclusively to Euro Weekly News and sang the praises of the new restaurant on the Costa Blanca After belting out a few Frank Sinatra hits James said the grand opening “had been fantastic.” Everyone has enjoyed themselves and everyone was up on their feet dancing the night away He’s done everyone proud,” he said about his friend of 16 years “Everyone had a smile on their face [tonight].” To find out more about the opening hours, the menu and any other information, please visit their website, Eduardo’s Facebook page or give them a call on 644 54 33 16 Thank you us on Facebook and Instagram who established and ran Eduardo’s Restaurant in Villamartin for many years alongside photos of their happy memories together Elliott told his followers: ‘It is with heart wrenching regret my father Edward George Wright passed away peacefully with his family by his side on the 02.03.2021 after bravely fighting Covid for 8 weeks despite the fact in his later years he bravely fought prostate cancer he never moaned and always did his best to put a brave smile on ‘His love for his family is what he will be remembered for to all of us wanting to spend every woken minute with his 10 grandkids and children was his only daily thought pattern and request said he is ‘simply devastated’ by his father’s death and went on to describe Eddie as his ‘rock the man who taught me to always be a gentleman’ After praising Eddie’s entrepreneurial success the reality star continued: ‘The legacy and mark you leave is colossal put simply if I could be half the man you were he opened Eduardo’s Restaurant in Villamartin which he ran successfully with his family for many years turning it into one of the most stylish venues on the Costa Blanca He also established La Finca de Eduardo’s in Lomas de Don Juan but that sadly closed following disputes with local neighbours A former professional golfer on the European Tour Eddie was a popular member of many golf societies on the Orihuela Costa sponsored and regularly played in many tournaments locally and his restaurants became a fashionable venue for their post tournament events and dinners In 2015 the family moved down to the Costa del Sol where Eddie helped his son as he opened Olivia’s in La Cala de Mijas Ex Towie star Mark Wright also paid tribute to his uncle and commented: ‘You’d have to be God to find a better man than my uncle The main picture shows Eddie alongside his father flanked by his two sons Elliot and Eddie junior located in the exquisite surroundings of Villamartin Plaza near the Orihuela Costa 100 guests were invited to the relaunch of Eduardo’s Italian situated on the upper terrace of Villamartin Plaza on the evening of Thursday July 6 and Euro Weekly News was delighted to be included in the list of distinguished guests Eduardo’s certainly suits its surroundings Previously a Mediterranean style restaurant Elliott asked Steven for his thoughts about Eduardo’s Eduardo’s Italian was rebranded and relaunched The dream team shared their passion for Italian food at Eduardo’s Italian restaurant by introducing a brand new menu inspired by the flavours of Italy specially crafted by the renowned celebrity chef Steven Saunders of Ready Steady Cook fame featured several delectable dishes alongside complementary wines to accompany each personally designed course Eduardo’s has long been famed as the premier restaurant on the Orihuela Costa and now boasts a gastronomic experience with an authentic Italian ambience that is second to none Eduardo’s Restaurant ensures that you receive a first class dining experience which overlooks the beautiful Villamartin Plaza with its stunning palm trees the interior of Eduardo’s provides a modern friendly atmosphere with its beautiful blue Mediterranean theme Eduardo’s in Costa Blanca’s Villamartin is part of the group which includes Olivia’s in La Cala de Mijas on the Costa del Sol and is the vision of Elliott Wright Villamartin Plaza one of the Costa Blanca’s leading music venues has been hit with the bombshell news that they will not be allowed to stage live music for the remainder of the year “It is with deep regret that we announce that there will be no live music in the central plaza for the remainder of the year,” shocked Villamartin Plaza President and spokesperson Casey Shaddock told The Leader “Unfortunately the community as a whole were unable to obtain a full consensus regarding the current Valencian guidelines and laws which would have enabled us to carry on with a reduced music programme,” said Casey Villamartin Plaza has showcased top artists including Leo Sayer and The Foundations: “We pride ourselves in bringing the very best live music – the only Plaza in Spain to feature international acts,” said Casey “We are also huge supporters of the local music scene and showcase the very best acts “We have raised €180,000 for local charities to date,” added Casey Villamartin Plaza is amongst other venues that have been hit during the coronavirus pandemic that has seen lockdowns during the last 15 months Casey said: “Rest assured we have already begun to plan an incredible line-up of music in 2022 it is devastating not to be able to put on the fantastic live entertainment and charity events to which have become accustomed please remember that all of the restaurants and bars at Villamartin Plaza are open “We hope to see as many of you as possible during the remainder of the season and we thank you so much for your continued support.” Every September one particularly unwelcome visitor to the country is DANA a cold drop or isolated depression that usually dumps large quantities of rainfall across many Spanish Territories Families in Villamartin’s Calle Isaac Albaniz will be praying this year In 2019 they were not so fortunate as many of their properties saw large parts of their gardens swept into the barranco below by the heavy rains that usually accompanies children as they return to school and remained almost stationary above the region for several days The drainage in C/Isaac Albaniz could not cope and as the rainfall overflowed down the side of many properties a number of gardens were swept away The properties were built over 20 years ago and the subsidence is now seriously affecting at least 1 detached and 2 semi-detached Villas in the road With the collapse of the drainage system there was a constant stream of raw sewage pouring out of the burst mains pipe and down the road toward Villamartin Golf Course This lasted for about 4 weeks after which engineers Over saturated soils are impossible to compact and drying reagents, such as Quicklime, Lime Kiln Dust (LKD), and Calciment™ can be used from https://www.mintekresources.com/soil-drying-agent/ to adjust the moisture and improve the workability of problematic soils so as to achieve the strength required for most job site specifications Whilst the pipework was fixed and the sewage problem rectified the engineers’ answer to the subsidence was to fill the gardens with even more earth the soil was once again washed away and down into the ravine but despite regular contact with both the Orihuela Town Hall and the Government environmental department in Murcia Craig told the Leader that the Murcia agency promised to send engineers to look at the problem in May but they never arrived and now his calls and emails are being ignored Closer to home the owners are also still waiting for a visit from the Town Hall which is similarly aware of the problem and in possession of all the relevant information “Insurers La Caixa have also said they cannot help and my daughter Abby is in constant panic mode Every time it rains none of us can get any sleep and we inevitably end up sitting awake all night listening to every creak concerned that the next shower could see the back of the house disappearing down the barranco and my family being buried under the rubble “We just want to get back to enjoying our life hear in Spain as the last 12 months have been a living hell for all of us.” Cañada de las Estacas has not been maintained for more than 10 years and because of this large natural debris like trees are catching and eroding the banks surrounding the baranco As well as building materials from construction at Los Dolses If you follow the baranco from Villamartin to the sea you will see numerous points along the route which are at risk of collapse including pathways and roads The soil underneath the paths have been eroded but those walking above a probably unaware of that Villamartin Plaza remain ‘unplugged’ – with the ban on music remaining in place at the venue – amid a crackdown on live music throughout the Costa Blanca south Problems arose this month when former Hot Chocolate lead singer Greg Bannis was stopped by the police from going on stage at the Plaza moments before his performance was to begin Following the incident Casey Shaddock President and spokesperson for Villamartin released a statement saying their situation was in the hands of lawyers On September 7 another statement was made by the plaza denying hopes of artistes and spectators returning to the popular venue Villamartin Plaza announced on September 10 that the fight goes on – with a ban on live music still in place said: “Myself and my best friend were there on September 3 ready for some ‘Hot Chocolate’ on our last weekend “We were gutted on the night following the cancellation and since we’ve returned to the UK we are now having to quarantine for 14 days “I’m totally upset that our night was ruined The plaza is a wonderful place and the management do so much to make it that way “Thank you for all that they do and their weekly updates that help us feel a part of what is happening You are fabulous and have our total support.” See also: Live music ban to stay in place Villamartin Plaza is among venues who have been told that live music is banned For the businesses in and around the plaza as they were just beginning to get back onto their feet the reality is that the legislation is not only ruining the summer holidays A statement from Villamartin Plaza said on September 10: Cancelled until further notice The fire began at 8.40am and was first noticed by a pool maintenance worker who heard an explosion and also heard the occupant a female of German origin aged around 75 years The lady lived alone in the property and is believed to suffer from Diogenes Syndrome which causes sufferers to hoard items and neglect both themselves and their homes the Guardia Civil from Pilar de la Horadada and the Orihuela Local Police attended The firefighters had to enter the property through a balcony as the front door was inaccessible due to the amount of items in the house The flames spread quickly through the house due to the amount of rubbish inside and the property has been completely burnt out this video shows graphic images which some people may find upsetting the woman herself suffered serious injuries and also tragically died The ambulance service also treated a police officer at the scene who sustained a finger injury and a firefighter was taken to hospital after fainting and feeling unwell because of the heat of the blaze Δdocument.getElementById( "ak_js_1" ).setAttribute( evening after he intervened in a fight between diners died at a local hospital from life-threatening injuries sustained in the altercation Elliot temporarily closed the doors of the restaurant but it was still targeted by vandals who spray-painted in blood red the outside in Spanish words that translate as ‘Killer Elliot’ and ‘Mafia’ A Guardia Civil investigation is now underway into the death of Pardo who suffered serious injuries after knocking his head while intervening in a fight that had broken out between customers he was unconscious as he was being rushed to hospital and placed into an intensive care unit as medical staff attempted to save his life The restaurant’s Instagram account released a statement explaining what had happened and offered the former employee’s family their condolences we lost a much loved & valued member of our team Our hearts are broken & we have closed the restaurant today and tomorrow out of respect We are supporting our staff & the family whilst awaiting news of further investigations.” This wasn’t the first time the restaurant was a victim of vandalism as it was set alight two years ago following an arson attack on the building That case is still being investigated although no arrests have been made in connection with the reportedly intentional blaze also owns ‘Eduardos’s Villamartin’ which he took over following the death of his father It has been reported in the Spanish press that the Association of Residences of the Valencian Community (ReCoVa) has denounced “the lack of staff and care poor nutrition and the violation of fundamental rights” in the Domus VI Aljub and Altabix centres and has demanded that the Consell inspect and sanction the “chaos” in these nursing homes ReCoVa has said that the home in Villamartin which accommodates a mix of up to 120 health service and private patients currently has more than half of the staff on holiday with the remainder “saturated The lack of health professionals means that residents “are not receiving the minimally decent care to which they are entitled” “We cannot tolerate that they do not have basic hygiene: changing diapers usually the night shift.”  If there is no available nurse the medication is administered by an assistant which is prohibited by the Law on the Regulation of Health Professions This lack of health staff has the consequences that the necessary postural changes are not made to prevent the generation of ulcers and other types of skin lesions caused by staying in bed “infections and sepsis are recurrent Another serious consequence is the lack of attention to patients who “have spent prolonged periods on the ground after a fall.” Another critical aspect is the lack of hygiene There are rats not only in the kitchen but also in the residents’ rooms Residents have been bitten and there are elderly people who have woken up with cockroaches on their faces The association denounces that in addition there is not a large enough stock of urine bags or oxygen masks Attention to the individual needs of patients is also called into question in ReCoVa’s public complaint which states that the centre “has run out of the medications needed for some of the elderly because the prescriptions have expired without being dispensed so that they are not being treated for their illnesses those who have eating problems do not receive a diet according to their needs “there is no diet for diabetics or liver patients and the easy-to-chew diet is a disaster it is a thick mass similar to plaster.” ReCoVa has also demanded that the management of the Savia nursing home in Villamartin be ‘urgently’ changed and that the Generalitat “inspect and sanction.” A PERFECT day weather-wise and with the course in reasonable condition a large post New Year turnout of 53 members and 2 guests gathered for a Stableford competition although somewhat offset by a number of very forward tees was probably the main reason why scoring was fairly average A festive competition also took place and Steve Davis had a tight win over previous competition winner Ken Flaherty The day’s Stableford competition results The best front 9 and not in the prizes went to Norman months ago but still runs a charity in Bristol – England Daniel still runs a charity in England called ‘Have Stick Will Travel,’ that raises money to buy that can enhance the lives of blind and poorly sighted people having gone to the aid of a young man of 18 who was being attacked by three older thugs by a Lloyds Bank cash point in Bristol The original victim got off lightly with just a broken nose and bruises whilst Daniel was several month in Frenchay Hospital in a coma waking up to discover he had lost his sight For this original act of bravery Dan received the Police Waley-Cohen award for bravery This was followed in 1998 by the young achievers award and a visit to the Palace to meet the Queen and the majority of the Royal Family He then became the first Bravery Award winner at the Pride of Britain Awards in 1999 He has also been to two Palace Garden Parties When Dan realised how expensive the items were that were needed to make life more normal for unsighted people he then decided to set up a charity – ‘Have Stick Will Travel’ His mother Sylvia and brother Adam are trustees and help with fund raising Dan also gives talks on how to interact with blind people He especially likes talking in schools to show children that losing your sight is not the end of the world He also likes youngsters to understand how a moment of madness the charity also organised long weekends away combining sighted members of the Somerville Club in Bishopston with the poorly sighted members of Avon Sports and Leisure for the Visually Impaired Originally these trips took them to Brussels amongst other easily assessable coach destinations Health and Safety restrictions and general costs have changed the destinations to those in England Dan has also done personal fundraising by abseiling down the Avon Gorge in Bristol and the Evening Post building scuba diving and other slightly risky things Coronavirus has made fundraising difficult in 2020 so Dan has changed directions and now he is having books published to raise money for his charity Every penny raised through the sale of the books goes there The first book came out a few months ago and was called ‘The Penultimate Sacrifice,’ a re-work of a book he had published earlier about reoccurring dreams The second book is original Fairy Tales called ‘The Unseeing Prince and other Fairy Tales’ for which he was assisted by his mother Sylvia   Both books are available from Amazon in book form and on E There are many others in the pipe line including amusing stories and both serious and humorous poetry Daniel’s mother
