argentina-based barrionuevo villanueva arquitectos completes a single-family home in the forested landscape of córdoba, argentina
removed from the urban context and isolated from neighbors
the architects tell designboom: ‘the value of the site is nature
which has the leading role as soon as the paved road is abandoned.’
dubbed ‘obra luyaba,’ takes shape with a simple
L-shaped plan and an expressive material palette
its monolithic volume projects over its sloping plot and is supported by two simple columns
contrasting this lightly floating condition
the house is built with heavy concrete slabs sandwiching operable vertical wooden louvers

barrionuevo villanueva arquitectos’ (see more here) ‘obra luyaba’ emerges from the forested
with the hilly context and thick vegetation
the house is a place to be progressively discovered
the house is a fleeting jewel in the trees
the living space serves doubly as an observation platform that solemnizes the impressive views of the landscape and wildlife
the design team continues: ‘the project defines the need to generate shelter
and works on the construction logic that rethinks the economy
the team at barrionuevo villanueva arquitectos explains the spirit of its obra luyaba: ‘the work is a support of inhabiting and contemplation
the compositional synthesis had to be total
they condition and intend the sunlight and the visuals
‘the definition of these factors are essentially defined by the beams that
determine circulation and permanence zones on the floor plan
as well as the definition of a public and a private space
the result is a patio node between the public/private horizontally and the access and terrace/pool vertically
‘all these variables of use and space make it possible to inhabit in order to provide a gradual revelation of the architecture
giving framework and accent to the landscape.’
the house takes shape with a simple L-shaped volume
gazing out to the distant landscape the heavy slabs are countered with light
the vertical timber louvers create patterned shadowing along the breezy interior

AXOR presents three bathroom concepts that are not merely places of function
but destinations in themselves — sanctuaries of style
The Padres desginated four players for assignment last week to make room for some highly-regarded prospects
Those four players now have their assignments
Allen Cordoba has been assigned outright to AAA El Paso
An automobile accident prior to the 2018 season left him experiencing concussion-related symptoms all season
The physical gifts he displayed in 2017 with the MLB club were clear from the start as the now-22-year-old possesses the speed
power and athleticism to become an impact player
but he needs to get healthy and then get back on track with a progression that now has a two-year detour thanks to a season stashed at the end of the bench of the MLB team due to the Rule 5 draft rules and now a season lost to injury
Colin Rea has been released. The tall righty popped up as a surprise prospect in 2015 as he climbed the minor league ladder and earned his MLB debut, making six starts for the Padres. He went on to make 18 starts for the Padres before being traded to the Marlins along with Andrew Cashner
His career as a Marlin lasted only one start
as an elbow injury led to allegations that the Padres weren’t properly disclosing their medical records and a portion of the trade was reversed by Major League Baseball
He underwent Tommy John surgery later that year and worked his way back to the mound in 2018
While Rea may eventually return to form and earn an MLB gig some day
there wasn’t room in the packed Padres organization for him any more
As the only player in this mix with at least three years of MLB service time
he had the option to reject a minor league assignment and elect to become a free agent
The former first-rounder has served as a utility infielder for most of his Padres tenure
and the recent addition of Greg Garcia slid Spangenberg down the depth chart by at least one rung
A capable defender at second and third base
and the quad injury that sidelined him for most of the 2016 season sapped him of the speed that was one of his strongest assets
MLBTradeRumors forecasted him to make a shade over $2M in his second year of arbitration
so the choice to cut Spangenberg ahead of fellow infielders Jose Pirela and Carlos Asuaje may have partially had financial motivations
It had been previously reported that third baseman Christian Villanueva had been sold to the Yomiuri Giants
He cleared waivers and was released to the Padres to facilitate the transaction
or what the Padres are receiving in return
One thing that is certain is that the team is looking for a new direction at third base moving forward
but the Padres have been very active each offseason under General Manager AJ Preller
The organization appears to be at a tipping point where the focus is shifting away from gathering assets and increasing value
instead looking ahead to building sustainable success at the major league level
Spain's state train operator Renfe has announced that it is changing some of units used on the existing inter-city service between Algeciras and Madrid with trains from the 730 series and marketed under the 'Alvia' brand name from 15 December
some 700 extra seats will be added per week
so the total number of seats will rise to 3,700 weekly
while also offering "greater comfort and reliability to the service."
the two daily and direct Algeciras-Madrid trains
In addition to increasing the number of seats on offer
the 730 series trains "will improve reliability
comfort and the customer's travel experience."
besides changing the train units operating on the line
which will lead to a saving in journey time of up to 44 minutes compared to the current one
going from 6 hours and 12 minutes to 5 hours and 28 minutes
it will modify the current timetables of these services
the new schedule services will depart from Algeciras at 3.52pm and from Madrid at 8.05am in the morning
The two daily trains on this route will have intermediate stops in San Roque
Renfe explained that the Alvia S-730 trains have 216 seats in tourist class
46 seats in 'Preferente' business class (one of those spaces will be for passengers with reduced mobility) and a buffet car
Renfe reminds its customers that trains in the 730 series are hybrids with diesel and electric traction technology
allowing these trains to extend the advantages of high speed to the non-electrified stretches of line as they have an adjustable bogey system
a feature that allows them to run both on standard gauge tracks (high speed) and conventional Spanish gauge tracks
the state train operator pointed out that these models can run at a maximum speed of 250 km/h on high-speed track and 220 km/h on electrified conventional track
while the maximum speed for non-electrified conventional track is 180 km/h
The signalling systems incorporated (Ertms
and Asfa Digital) guarantee interoperability throughout Spain's rail network and complete the technical features embedded in one of the most versatile high-speed trains in the world

“Concrete has seduced architects and engineers,” they write, “to prove it can produce works complex and simple, graceful and awkward, delicate and overbearing, mischievous and sinister, gravity-defying and earthbound.”
Chronicling more than 300 private homes and public spaces built from 1913 to 2022 — in styles including Bauhaus modernism, Art Deco, Cold War-era brutalism and postmodern “blobitecture” — the book is illustrated with dramatic black and white photography that “allows the material to shine through, with no distractions,” Goldin writes.
“Concrete Architecture,” published by Phaidon. (Phaidon)
Global in its scope, with buildings from more than 60 countries, “Concrete Architecture” also celebrates the local, highlighting 10 Southern California landmarks, including the 1970 Geisel Library at UC San Diego, the 1965 Salk Institute in La Jolla, Wright’s 1924 concrete textile block Ennis House in Los Feliz and the 2015 Broad museum in downtown L.A. Here are some of the awe-inspiring structures featured in the book.
(Jan Kempenaers)
Made from béton brut (concrete that is unfinished after being cast, showing the marks of the mold), this 1970 memorial in Belgrade honors men from regions of the former Yugoslavia who gave their lives fighting German and Italian forces in World War II. The star-shaped monument, the authors observe, “can also be read as five identical abstract figures standing back-to-back, as if in a last stand, rifles pointing outwards, individuals yet unified.”
(Alfonso Quiroga / Courtesy of Rafael De La-Hoz)
Built in Villanueva de Cordoba, Spain, this 2013 design serves as a covered viewing deck in a grove of protected holm oaks. Made from 20-foot-square intersecting concrete vaults, the structure takes inspiration from cloister architecture and the canopies of trees in the area.
(Leonardo Finotti)
This 11-story tower, built in Cordoba, Argentina, in 2012, “is like an origami lantern made of concrete,” the authors write.
(CreatAR Images)
“One of concrete’s unique characteristics is its ability to be shaped into formlessness, divorcing it from familiar associations,” the authors say of this 2020 pavilion built in the seaside port of Haikou, China.
(Mikkel Frost / Cebra)
This 2019 place of worship in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, was designed by the Danish architectural firm Cebra. “This concrete landscape appears to grow and shrink, consisting of both horizontal and sloping surfaces — some as small as a stool,” the authors write.
Designed by Austrian architect Werner Tscholl and cantilevered over a steep Alpine ridge, this 2010 building commemorated the completion of a challenging mountain road in 1960. The structure was conceived, the authors write, “in harmony with the natural rocky landscape.”

A lujazo of group and present everything I learned during those days of all of them with own appellations of origin
The meeting, organized by Al - Salmorejo, in the person of round Estibaliz (who also developed the events We eat Málaga and We eat Córdoba)
it consisted of two distinct phases although interrelated
The first phase was developed in the beautiful city of Priego de Cordoba
Centre of one of the designations of origin of oil that Andalusia has
He accompanied us throughout our stay Rafael Rodríguez Ruiz
responsible for the promotion and development of tourism in the town area
Kindness and delivery to transmit us your passion for this land and its products
Excellent oils of this denomination are mainly from the variety Picuda and Hojiblanca
All of this could appreciate it in one of the most interesting events that we are witnessing during these days
as it was the tasting directed by Paqui García González in the denomination of origin of oils of Priego
and explained in this case throughout the process
the path followed the olives until our table: tree
washing and milling and mixing of olive to get the juice
that precious liquid gold that is extra virgin olive oil
Mills of la Subbética is a company with 35 hectares which mainly deal in the production of quinces and olive oil
It is to enhance the product.More than 4,000 members and 8 cooperatives have (that more than 6,000 partners make up them at the same time) and last season were marketed more than 40,000 kg of oil
We could not see the machines at full capacity to have not started yet the olive harvesting season for oil
yes that we could see the entry of table olives
the care process that they follow and their subsequent storage and packaging
The Villa de Priego de Córdoba is located in the natural park of the Subbeticas Sierras
boasts thousand and one places of interest
The historic condensed into a few apples amazing places that you will leave open-mouthed
of Baroque style with three ponds and classified as a national monument
Dates from 1803 and it represented by two sculptures
the struggle of a lion with a snake and the other
Neptune and Amphitrite who rode on a carriage pulled by horses coming out of a clean
do not just inciting bath in times of heat
It is difficult to find so much beauty in such waters
We continue our walk through the streets of the town the Barrio de la Villa
a beautiful neighbourhood remains flowery thanks to the efforts of all the neighbors and I will tell you later with more detail because it is very much worth visiting
calmly strolling a town where everything seems harmony
we reach the recreation of Castilla or Huerta de las Infantas
a garden up to the edge of the wall of the Adarve and from where you can enjoy spectacular views over the city
The next morning was waiting for us a wonderful gift: a show cooking of José María González
one of the best restaurants in Córdoba and which moved to Priego for the occasion
José María prepared us Salmorejo almonds with beads of oil
chopped Octopus with crumbs of EVOO and slices of radish and turnip
juice of oxtail with gnocchi oil and dessert "olive tree on the road (made Orange custard dessert with EVOO and a sand biscuits with a chocolate trunk)."
for all their charms and their good products
a place to return and enjoy the good oil and good French fries San Nicasio
By the way the restaurants where we ate and ate were: restaurant of the hotel Huerta de las Palomas
Adarve balcony bar and restaurant of the river
In all treated us very well and at all we went round to eat
called rural hotel Huerta de las Palomas and is a monad
The second phase of the meeting focused on that other gastronomic treasure that has the area
Ibericode Acorn-fed ham was present since we arrived at Priego
and although in reality the production focuses on Los Pedroches
the first morning we find a surprise: in the living room of breakfast
professional cutter of ham who entertained the breakfast cutting dish after dish
Accompanied us throughout our stay cut ham in all stops for lunch
A wonder that dragged on until we arrive at Villanueva de Córdoba
There Clemente was part of the Group of cutters prepare hams of the competition the best ham from Los Pedroches
(whose members our colleague was José Ferrer
tasted eight different hams from the best producers belonging to the appellation of origin Los Pedroches
the best ham of Acorn elected has been ham Jarote
President of the Council for the regulator of denomination of origin protected the and which could prove part of what pig offers
so I promise to return the coming year to fully enjoy what I lost this year in the fair of the Iberian ham de Bellota de Los Pedroches
The restaurant where we had dinner is called Las Columnas and the hotel where we stayed
full of surprises and experiences and two places to recommend

A privately-operated high-speed train that left Malaga at 11.35am
on Thursday (25 April) had to make an emergency stop at Villanueva de Cordoba-Los Pedroches station after a passenger was taken seriously ill
collapsed into the aisle of one of the carriages
apparently after suffering a cardiovascular incident
and staff on board the train requested medical assistance for the unconscious man over the loudspeaker system
Four doctors travelling on the service arrived at the scene to determine the seriousness of the situation
the driver informed the track controllers that there was a sick person on board and at 12.55pm
the train rolled into the Villanueva de Córdoba terminal
an ambulance arrived and took the man to Pozo Blanco hospital
and the train resumed its journey another ten minutes later
the rest of those scheduled on the Malaga-Madrid high-speed route continued operating normally
June marks two years since the Avlo service was launched; this alternative way of travelling
Seville and Malaga and all the intermediate stations on these lines
the only low-cost "universal" service for all destinations
And to keep offering this universal service
we are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the new S106 trains:
Prepare your trip
WIFI connection at 300 km/h and an incredible range of content
The Figueres-Vilafant station was chosen for the departure of the first commercial Avlo service
had to be suspended on account of the COVID-19 pandemic
it was found that the number of passengers on this line had tripled compared to the previous period
and that the release of 342,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere had been avoided compared to trips using private vehicles
and more than double the volume of emissions had these trips been made by plane
Find out all about our purple train in a very special news article
Avlo was launched on the Madrid-Valencia line
Six daily trips stopping in Cuenca and Utiel-Requena
and there are now 15 daily high-speed services in each direction
the classic aubergine colour of these trains has become a common image on the lines they run on
and an object of desire for others where the service is currently unavailable
It will come as no surprise that the slogan for the launch campaign was "Alta Velocidad (high-speed) for everyone"
and the aim of Renfe's newest product was to provide all segments of the population with a fast
reliable and sustainable (zero emissions) means of transport
with four daily trips stopping in Albacete
and two of them also stopping in Cuenca and Villena
as well as all the stations on these lines
will see the must sought-after Avlo launch in June
taking the number of cities benefitting from this alternative way of travelling
with all the comforts and at the best price

Malaga is the Andalusian province where family names and general traditions have had the least weight when it comes to naming children
Only 6.3% of babies born in the province last year inherited one or more of their parents' names
compared to the region-wide average in Andalucía of 9.5%
Cordoba was at the other extreme: there the percentage of names passed down from parents to babies was 12.4%
a greater attachment to tradition was observed in the inland provinces: Seville
This custom of passing on one's name to one's children as a family legacy is more frequent in the case of boys than in that of girls: only 3% of girls born in Malaga last year were named after their mothers
compared to 9.5% of boys being named after their fathers
Among the 100 most frequently chosen names for girls
Cristina was the name most passed on from mother to daughter in 2023 - 45.6% to be exact
it was Francisco Javier: 68.6% of newborns with this name have a father with the same name
If we extend that out to the total set of names chosen last year
looking only at those names that were chosen at least five times
in 87.5% of the girls called Elisabet and in 83.3% of the boys called Adolfo
their mother and father respectively had exactly the same name
The ranking of the most commonly chosen names of newborns in Malaga in 2023 was headed by María
maintaining pride of place among girls' names (146 babies took this name)
which snatches the top spot (134) for boy names from Manuel
Malaga stood apart from the general trend in Andalucía
as Manuel continued to be the most popular male name at regional level
the most popular names in 2023 in Malaga were María
the ones with the most upward trend were Sofía (up four places compared to 2022)
Carmen (up five) and Vega (up ten and now breaking into the top 10)
The names that climbed the ranks with respect to 2022 were Hugo (+2)
In Malaga city itself the most popular name for girls was Lucía and
there was a tie between Alejandro and Manuel
the pair was the same as at provincial level (María and Hugo)
In Vélez-Málaga the leader board belonged to Sofía and Thiago
in Fuengirola to Sofía and Hugo and in Torremolinos to Sofía and Leo
In Estepona there was a double tie between Sofía and Lucía and Álvaro and Alejandro
then in Ronda it was Valeria and Manuel and in Antequera María and Hugo
In Rincón de la Victoria the most popular name among newborn girls was Vega and among boys there was a triple tie between Javier
In Alhaurín de la Torre the tie was between the girls (Chloe and Alba) and Hugo dominated the boys list
In Andalucía as a whole María and Manuel were again the names most used by mothers and fathers living in Andalucía in 2023
María went to 819 girls (2.7% of the total) holding onto that top spot since 2009
while Manuel went to 1,050 boys (3.4% of the total) leads the ranking of boy names since 2016
Sofía and Carmen (accounting for 9.1% of the total number of newborn girls)
María and Lucía holding onto their places from 2022
Sofía appears for the first time among the top four names and Carmen stayed in fourth position as per 2022
the first three places were occupied by Manuel
All of them account for 12.2% of the total number of male newborns
Compared to the previous year the first three and Martín stayed in the same positions and only Pablo has moved up one place from being in fifth in 2022
Taking into account the hundred most frequent girls' names in Andalucía in 2023
Laia was the name that moved up the ranks the most
going from 74th to 93rd place and for the boys it was Juan José
María was the most popular girl's name in all Andalusian provinces
Manuel was the most frequently chosen name in Cadiz
with Hugo in Jaén and Malaga and Alejandro in Almería and Granada
Regarding the most popular name for newborns by each municipality in Andalucía
the highest percentages were found in Villanueva de Córdoba
where María was the most frequent girl's name (19.2% of births)
and Isla Mayor (Seville) where Daniel was the most popular boy's name in relation to the total number of babies born in that municipality (23.8%)
