Former Nashville Predators goaltender Pekka Rinne won a game for the first time in nearly four years on Saturday
According to the Finnish website Jatkoaika
801 fans were in attendance to watch Kiekko-Ketut - which roughly translates as the "Hockey Foxes" - beat Haapajärvi Kiilai 7-2
The Foxes led 3-1 at the end of the first period
then broke the game open with three more goals in the second period and one in the third
That gave Rinne his first win since his final game with the Predators on May 10
Rinne, who played for Kiekko-Ketut as a youth player, was drafted by Nashville in the eighth round in 2004. He holds the Predators franchise record for saves (17,627)
wins (369) and shutouts (60) and playoff wins (45)
Rinne won the Vezina Trophy in 2018 as well as the King Clancy Award in 2021
which is given "to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community."
Rinne is currently a development coach and scout for the Predators
Rinne was inducted into the Predators' Golden Hall
along with general manager David Poile and defenseman Shea Weber

Pekka Rinne, the most successful goaltender in Nashville Predators history
may be back in net for the first time in four years this week
Rinne, who retired from the NHL in 2021 after a 15-year career, has signed a one-game contract with Kiekko-Ketut
It's unclear when Rinne will suit up for Kiekko-Ketut. According to the team's Instagram page
If Rinne does play for Kiekko-Ketut, it would be his first professional game since May 10, 2021. Rinne holds the Predators franchise record for saves (17,627)
the first Predators player to win an individual award
given "to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community," in 2021
Rinne was named a development coach and scout for the Predators
A statue honoring Rinne was unveiled on the Bridgestone Arena plaza in March 2023
and was drafted in the fourth round at 258th overall in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft by the Nashville Predators
Before becoming Nashville’s starting goalie in the 2008-09 season
where he posted a 1.68 goals against average (GAA) and a .927 save percentage (SV%) in 10 games
Between the 2005-06 season and 2008-09 season
he was between Nashville and their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate
he tied for second in the AHL with 30 regular-season wins
He had 10 postseason wins with three shutouts to lead the Milwaukee Admirals to the 2006 Calder Cup Final
where he led the Predators to his first NHL win
In his first season as a full-time member of the team
he posted a 2.38 GAA and .917 SV% in 52 games
He quickly became one of the NHL’s top goaltenders
Rinne was one of three Vezina Trophy nominees
The trophy is awarded to the best goalie in the NHL voted by the league’s general managers
he also finished in the top four for the Hart Trophy
which is awarded to the NHLs most valuable player
and he was named a Second-Team NHL All-Star
he led the Preds to their first-ever Stanley Cup series win
where they defeated the Anaheim Ducks 4-2 in the series
Rinne was a nominee for the 2015 Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy, an award given to the player who best exemplifies perseverance
The eventual winner was former NHL player Jaromír Jágr
Rinne was also a Vezina Trophy finalist again in 2015
marking his third career nomination for the award; he lost to Montreal Canadiens goalie Carey Price
$10 million contract extension with Predators
making him a team member through the 2020-21 season
The night he signed the contract extension
he posted a shutout over the visiting Boston Bruins with a 26-save game
he became the fastest goalie to record 30 wins in 39 games since the NHL introduced the shootout and just the third goalie in the NHL’s expansion era to achieve 30 wins in 39 games or less
where he became the 67th goaltender to play at least 500 NHL games
Louis Blues 2-0; the shutout was Rinne’s 45th in his career
making him the NHL’s all-time leader amongst Finnish-born goalies
he became the 34th goalie in the NHL to record 300 career wins after a 7-1 victory against the San Jose Sharks

Pekka Rinne played in the 2014 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Championship tournament
he played in the same tournament where he was named the tournament’s best goaltender and set a new IIHF record for minutes played without letting in a goal
he was selected to play for Finland in the World Cup of Hockey
He played one of the three tournament games and two pre-tournament games
Rinne plays the popular butterfly style of goaltending
This is where he drops to his knees early and uses his stick and legs to block shot attempts
His height provides him with an advantage; he is 6-foot-5 inches
making him the fifth-tallest goalie currently in the NHL
He has an excellent reach with his stick and his pads
he utilizes great footwork and has a good glove hand
but plays a shorter stick than most goalies

The fund was started because Rinne and his former teammate Weber wanted to make a difference in the Middle Tennessee area
The fund offers unique opportunities for patients and their families to get a taste of the Smashville experience
including player meet and greets and watching Predators home games from special suites
Rinne has accomplished much greatness throughout his NHL and international career
I look forward to seeing what more Rinne will accomplish as he moves into his potential final season with the team
Even if he doesn’t break more records
he will still go down as one of the NHL’s top goalies and a franchise icon

Water is cheap in Finland – or extremely expensive
A new report on water rates by the Finnish Water Utilities Association shows that the prices of household tapwater vary wildly from one water company to the next
the differences are many times more expensive
“Long water networks in sparsely populated areas bring big spikes in cost,” says Mika Rontu from the association
“Rocky terrain and other geographical causes can also affect prices
A third factor is the owner’s revenue recognition or so-called hidden taxation.”
Due to the differences between the structuring of various water management fees
the Water Utilities Association uses a reference price
This includes the effects of the usage charge
gauge rent and connection fee on the price of water and sewage
The combined reference price of water and sewerage gives a better idea of the real price of one cubic metre of water
According to the report Finns in Kempele near Oulu use the cheapest water
with a reference price of 2.64 euros per cubic metre
That’s for apartments – the cheapest single family dwelling pricing is provided by the Aluelämpö company in Salla
Those paying the most for their running water are the single family dwellers on the island of Utö in the Archipelago Sea
People there pay five to six times the Kempele reference price – as much as 16.81 euros per cubic metre
“In Utö the household water is prepared by filtering seawater,” says Rontu
“There are very few customers and the island is rocky.”
It is in western Finland that the priciest runners-up are found
Apartment prices sear the sky in the municipality of Parikkala
The report also shows that the two opposite ends of the price spectrum are found in small regions
Large populations centres such as the Capital Region
Turku applies the mean while Tampere and Helsinki charge much less for water
The prices of more than 200 water suppliers – that handles 70-80 percent of Finland’s water – were used for the report

Greenland: Greenland – barrels of oil and bottles of water

Real estate transactions at the Kiinteistömaailma office in Helsinki
According to the latest Indeksitalo 2024 report by the Finnish Real Estate Federation (Kiinteistöliitto)
property management costs for housing companies have continued to rise significantly across the country
The only exception to this trend was in electricity prices
While the rate of cost increases has slowed compared to the past two years
The report shows that municipal property costs have increased by an average of 4.4% from the previous year
Key contributors include a 12.3% rise in land property taxes
and notable hikes in waste management and water services
Significant Variation Between Municipalities
The report highlights stark differences in cost changes across the 59 cities and municipalities surveyed
two—Raisio and Hyvinkää—saw declines of around 3%
Vihti experienced the highest cost increase at nearly 17%
and Vihti topped the list for the highest municipal property costs
with Helsinki now charging €4.33 per square meter per month
followed closely by Järvenpää and Vihti at €4.10
The national average for all cities is €3.38 per square meter
and Rauma recorded the lowest property costs
property costs stand at €2.77 per square meter per month
The cost differences between municipalities are significant
annual property costs in Helsinki now reach approximately €4,680
compared to €2,990 in Kempele—a difference of nearly €1,700 per year
The increase in Helsinki translates to around €400 more per year for residents compared to last year
While the cost of electricity itself dropped by 12%
basic fees and transfer charges continue to rise
The price decrease is largely due to a 22% reduction in energy costs
the overall electricity cost is still over one-third higher than it was in September 2021
Waste management costs rose by an average of 6.1%
driven by increases in mixed waste and basic service fees
the cost of organic waste collection saw a slight decrease of 4.1%
marking an acceleration from last year’s 4.2% rise
District Heating and Property Taxes See Sharp Increases
District heating costs rose by an average of 7%
with some municipalities experiencing hikes as high as 30%
Hyvinkää and Lempäälä saw minor declines in heating costs
Property taxes for land increased by an average of 12.3%
with building property taxes rising by 3.1%
Most municipalities faced mandatory tax rate hikes
where land property taxes dropped by 10.3%
and Kuopio saw the most significant increases
while costs in Turku remained largely unchanged
and Vantaa continue to have the lowest property costs among the largest cities
with Oulu charging €3.02 per square meter per month
The Indeksitalo 2024 report offers a detailed look at how property costs are evolving across Finland
showing both regional disparities and overall cost trends that impact housing companies and residents alike
