A British-Finnish man born in 1992 died after being shot by police officers in Lempäälä
The fatal shooting was preceded by a reckless high-speed chase over several kilometres on highway 3
which ended in the young man opening fire at police with what has been described as a handmade shotgun and two police officers returning fire
One of the police officers involved in the chase sustained a gunshot wound to the upper bodyin the incident but is currently in stable condition, according to a press release from the National Bureau of Investigation (KRP)
KRP says the driver of the vehicle is suspected of attempted murder and aggravated firearms offence
has opened a routine inquiry into the use of firearms by the two police officers
The events began to unfold after the young man was stopped with two passengers in his car in Moisio
The driver fled the scene and let the two passengers out of the car at a roadside stop area before continuing his flight from the law alone north on highway 3
An additional three police patrols joined the pursuit and eventually managed to box the driver and force him to stop on the side of the highway
KRP later brought the two passengers into custody on suspicion of aggravated firearm offences but announced after interrogating them that they are not suspected of any criminal activity
