He will occupy an international roster slot, pending receipt of his P-1 visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC).  Urhoghide's transfer represents the highest transfer fee ever paid for a defender in FC Dallas history. Early reports suggested the fee was upward of $3m. The 24-year old played for Amiens in Ligue 2, the second tier of French soccer, from 2023 to 2025. He made 41 appearances for the club across the Coupe de France and Ligue 2. In August 2024, he scored his first professional goal in a 3-0 win over Red Star FC. In 2021, Urhoghide signed with Scottish powerhouse Celtic FC. He made his debut in a UEFA Europa League match against Real Betis on Dec. 9, 2021. Urhoghide spent the 2022-23 season with the now-defunct Belgian club KV Oostende, making 36 appearances. Originally from the Netherlands, Urhoghide moved to England as a child. He began his professional career at AFC Wimbledon before joining Sheffield Wednesday in 2019, where he made 21 appearances for the club. We provide all the latest FC Dallas news, opinions, and coverage throughout the day. Yes, this was the signing that I tossed a little bit of cold water on last Monday in our weekly newsletter. At the time, I didn't feel confident with the limited sources out there talking about this move. It happens but I am glad this one finally got across the finish line as it got held up for most of last week at the league front office. Urhoghide is the type of signing that you want to see FC Dallas make here as they rebuild their defense from last season. He's young, comes from quality teams overseas and could be the exact player that the club needs. As you'll see below, he brings some atheltic quality to the defense that is definitely needed this season. While I think the French League 2 is a pretty decent league, I do wonder how it will translate into success in MLS. But, defensively, I do like what I see from him. The reported price tag however is something I'm a tad concerned with here. While he is the TAM-player I've been wanting to see the club sign for a couple of seasons, I do have concerns with how quickly he'll be able to come in and earn a starting spot. Aside from that, FC Dallas still has some depth issues in the defense to sort out before the start of the season next week in Houston. They still need another center back for depth purposes and a left back to slot in behind Marco Farfan. The clock is ticking on both moves. There really wasn’t much good in this one, was there? All the facts from FC Dallas’ blowout loss in San Diego. The unbeaten run away from Frisco has come to a close in a very ugly way. Minnesota United today announced that the club has signed midfielder Owen Gene from Amiens SC of Ligue 2, the second division of French football, to a three-year contract through December of 2027, with a club option for 2028. Gene will occupy a U22 Initiative and an international roster spot pending receipt of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC). “Owen joins our club with over 100 leagues games played, adding quality, depth and further competition into our midfield,” said MNUFC Chief Soccer Officer Khaled El-Ahmad. “We are excited to welcome Owen to Minnesota, and the club looks forward to seeing the impact he can have on the team starting this season, along with seeing his growth and development as a young footballer.” Owen Gene arrives at Minnesota United from Amiens SC, where he played from 2021 to 2025. During his time with the French club, Gene made 102 game appearances, playing over 6,000 minutes and scoring one goal. During the 2024-2025 Coupe de France, Gene featured in two key fixtures, helping Amiens secure victories in the Seventh and Eighth Rounds before the club was eliminated in the Round of 64. In his youth, the French midfielder developed through FC Versailles 78 (2014-2018) before joining Amiens SC U17 (2018-2020) and progressing through their U19 squad (2020-2021) before joining Amiens SC senior squad. Across all competitions with Amiens SC’s first team, U17, and U19 sides, Gene tallied 131 appearances from 2020-2025. Internationally, Gene made his debut for the French U20 National Team on March 25, 2023, in an international friendly against the Netherlands. Transaction: Minnesota United signs Owen Gene from Amiens SC to a three-year contract through December of 2027, with a club option for 2028. Minnesota’s front office isn’t currently expecting other new signings to come in before the beginning of the season, with the possibility open that the team has already made all of its winter signings. The Loons have until April 23 to sign new players, and another window from late July to late August. There are now 25 players on the Minnesota roster, with a maximum of 30 players allowed. The Loons also announced their schedule for the Leagues Cup, the joint MLS/Liga MX tournament. Minnesota will play host to Querétaro on July 30 and Atlético de San Luis on Aug. 6, and will travel to Houston to face Club América — arguably the biggest club in North America — on Aug. 2. The tournament was revamped this year, and now only includes the 18 playoff teams from last season’s MLS playoffs, along with the 18 teams from Liga MX. (The exception is Vancouver, which has been replaced with expansion side San Diego FC, since the Whitecaps are already playing in both the CONCACAF Champions Cup and the Canadian Championship.) Rather than splitting the tournament into three-team groups, as in the past, each team will now simply play three games against teams from the other league. The top four MLS teams and the top four Liga MX teams, ranked in a single set of standings, will advance to the quarterfinals. Minnesota is 3-0 against Liga MX teams in the tournament over the past two years, with wins over Necaxa, Puebla, and Toluca (on penalties). The condensed schedule also means that MLS will pause its schedule for only two weeks, rather than the near-month-long breaks it took for the tournament in the past two seasons. In addition to the Leagues Cup this season, the Loons will return to the U.S. Open Cup, the century-old domestic cup competition. Minnesota will enter the competition in the Round of 32, and will play its first match near the beginning of May. The Loons missed the competition last season, amidst a dispute between MLS and tournament organizers U.S. Soccer about MLS participation. The Loons’ second team, MNUFC2, did take part and lost its opening game to third-division Michigan Stars FC. Jon Marthaler has been covering Minnesota soccer for more than 15 years, all the way back to the Minnesota Thunder. Loons Because Kelvin Yeboah was hurt, the Loons turned to the 5-2-3 setup they used often in 2024, in effect moving Robin Lod and Joaquín Pereyra up the field against Austin. The Loons controlled the game by stopping passes at midfield, and they benefited from a goal that rolled between Austin goalie Brad Stuver‘s legs. The Loons have cash available, open spots on their roster and room for one or even two more designated players. Matthieu Raoult, Lucien Raharinjatovo and Axel Moron distinguished themselves among 35 teams from higher education institutions from all over France, finishing in 5th place overall. Over two intensive days, the participants were confronted with technical challenges relating to industrial robotics and automation, using technologies developed by Fanuc. Analyzing specifications, programming PLCs, implementing robotic solutions... all challenges that called on their rigor, team spirit and technical skills.  “This competition represents a real opportunity for our students to put their knowledge of current industrial issues into practice. It is also a powerful human experience, which promotes cooperation and initiative-taking”, emphasizes the course's teaching team. This 5th place is a reward for their work, but also for the pedagogical approach of UniLaSalle Amiens, which is geared towards experimentation, collaborative projects and openness to the industrial world. Congratulations to Matthieu, Lucien and Axel for their achievements and their commitment. We wish them the best for the future of their projects. On Tuesday January 7, 2025, UniLaSalle Amiens laid the foundation stone for its future student residence on rue de la Résistance. This project, carried out in partnership with AMSOM Habitat, marks an important step in meeting the growing need for student accommodation in the region. The residence, located less than 10 minutes from the UniLaSalle Amiens campus, benefits from a strategic location close to the city center, the train station and the lively Saint-Leu district. The residence meets today's sustainability challenges: Numerous personalities and partners involved in the project were present at the ceremony, including : The speeches highlighted the project's values: innovation, social commitment and contribution to the city of Amiens.  This residence has been designed as a real place to live, promoting exchanges and student well-being. It is in line with UniLaSalle's dynamic approach, which aims to offer its students optimal conditions for academic success and personal fulfillment. The foundation stone symbolizes much more than the start of construction: it represents a decisive step for the UniLaSalle Amiens campus and its entire community. For its part, France lost 1.5 million men between 1914 and 1918 This baptism by fire marked the beginning of a lasting cooperation between France and Australia in the field of defence As Bastille Day has been celebrated this week it’s important to remember this shared history and acknowledge the joint military history that continue to strengthen the ties between both nations The current geopolitical landscape is characterised by persistent risks and threats in both Europe and the South Pacific In Europe, the resurgence of geopolitical tensions in Ukraine shows the importance of Paris and Canberra working together to support an attacked country with the example of a joint ammunition partnership This means both countries need to take a proactive and cooperative approach including on climate change and regional stability Australia’s decision in September 2021 to end the future submarine program with France led to a reassessment of their strategic partnership (PDF) France now approaches cooperation with Australia based on mutual interests and regional considerations France wants to stay close to the US while working with Australia on Indo-Pacific matters and AUKUS-related issues The diplomatic reset in Australia-France relations followed 555 million euros of financial compensation granted to France’s Naval Group the jilted party in Australia’s submarine saga While there will be challenges after AUKUS the French-Australian defence relationship remains robust with both nations recognising the value of collaborative efforts The partnership has demonstrated its resilience in the face of change France and Australia have agreed to strengthen ties after the AUKUS fallout with a new roadmap (PDF) for the relationship Both countries will improve access to military facilities and work together on climate change Such exercises serve to enhance interoperability and mutual understanding between the armed forces of both nations with the objective of enhancing combat readiness and mutual understanding The involvement of the Royal Australian Air Force serves to reinforce its status as a pivotal player in regional security initiatives Another example is their joint participation in Pacific Skies 2024 Such activities not only strengthen bilateral military ties but also fosters broader regional security partnerships and ensuring readiness to respond effectively to evolving security threats in the region the French and Australian forces exemplify collaborative defence efforts aimed at maintaining peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific Just as Australian and French soldiers once fought side by side in Amiens during World War I today they stand together to face modern threats The shared history of sacrifice and cooperation at Amiens is mirrored in their contemporary efforts to maintain stability This historical connection strengthens their current resolve providing a solid foundation for tackling today’s challenges Both countries agree that working together is important to deal with common problems like territorial disputes They can look forward from a legacy of shared history towards a future of continued collaboration Marvin Girelli is a researcher at the Asia-Pacific Development, Diplomacy & Defence Dialogue (AP4D) and a PhD candidate at the University of French Polynesia. May 2018Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Australia this week was unusual: he has not yet marked a year in office and it is the first time a French President has made a bilateral official visit “We’re Too Busy Fighting a War to Worry about Gender” – The Operational Importance of Gender Advisors in Armed ForcesBy Associate Professor Katrina Lee-Koo Jennifer Wittwer and Sarah Brown04 March 2022Gender Advisors in armed forces are critical to the implementation of the United Nations Women and organisational and operational effectiveness Fully realising this potential requires improved investment in disowned Rather than support their centrist boy-next-door in the first round of the presidential election the winner in the northern city was the one-time Trotskyite revolutionary He still wants to rip up the Fifth Republic Constitution yet received 15,735 votes (31.27% of the total) Amiens is the capital of the historically war-ravaged Somme an area synonymous with cataclysmic battles against fanatical imperialists from Germany But this did not stop the far-Right Marine Le Pen from winning the department as a whole With Mélenchon now narrowly ejected from the contest few would be surprised if she were to defeat Macron here in Sunday’s second round Filled with rows of Victorian-style terraces and detached family houses topped with gargoyles it was a product of Industrial Revolution prosperity and attracted the rich who was drawn to the district by romance — his wife Verne’s futuristic writing lauded his adopted Amiens as a place that would always be viewed as The Ideal City — the title of a short story he wrote in 1875 Verne’s old house in Henriville is just a short walk from the redbrick villa where Macron grew up remembers him well as “someone who always stood out” and relatively reserved with it,” he tells me When other pupils didn’t know the answer to something in the sense that he would not crush the others.” Macron’s parents were both medical doctors and typical of the professional classes who sent their children to the fee-paying school which was founded by Jesuit priests in 1868 Means-testing and scholarships later became available to a minority but most were — like Macron — baptised Catholics from comfortable backgrounds who saw themselves as future leaders Recalling field trips to the English Channel coast in the academic year 1992/93 — when Macron turned 15 — M Banc remembers his pupil delegating fossil finding duties to classmates “He would always leave his hammer and chisel at home and just watch while others did the chipping,” said M rather than getting his hands dirty with grit and chalk.” By Matthew Goodwin has worked at La Providence for almost 50 years He still teaches part-time and has witnessed the societal shifts at the college and the city that surrounds it “There’s no doubt that there have been big changes in recent years,” said M Amiens has been affected by unemployment and business failures and those who have suffered most have started voting for candidates like M Amiens was bombed to pieces by the RAF during the Second World War and the original La Providence was destroyed It was rebuilt in the late Forties next to a site that is now on the outer ringroad it looks more like a sprawling American high school — the kind portrayed in films such as Animal House In a saga that could easily have come straight out of the cult Hollywood movie the 16-year-old Macron embarked on an affair with his married drama teacher then a mother-of-three called Brigitte Auzière and Madame Macron — scion of a wealthy family of confectioners from Amiens who still specialise in prestige macaroons — is now Première Dame the Macrons have very little to do with Amiens today Their personal residence is in the glitzy seaside resort of Le Touquet and officially called Le Touquet-Paris-Plage — literally the French capital’s beach By John Lichfield and ordinary people mistake this for arrogance,” M “The problem is that he has to address the entire nation and not everyone in France is an intellectual or a philosopher This alienates them and persuades them to vote for radical alternatives.” “There’s no doubt that Mr Macron has presided over a period of extremism and the Coronavirus pandemic — the face of France is certainly changing.” Others with close links to La Providence are more blunt they consider Macron to be the “President of the Rich” — a former merchant banker and financial civil servant who has lost touch with ordinary people Few have forgotten the launch of his new party There were comparisons to alpha businessmen who extend their vulgar egotism to personalised car number plates and solid gold cufflinks The President’s fiercest detractor in Amiens is the sitting MP another local boy who was two years above Macron at La Providence Despite his privileged educational background Ruffin now represents Mélenchon’s anti-capitalist party a scathing documentary highlighting the devastating impact billionaire Paris industrialists have on ordinary lives even before putting a foot in the Élysée,” Ruffin wrote in an open letter published by Le Monde when Macron beat Le Pen to win his first presidential term in 2017 Nothing has softened Ruffin’s approach over the past five years He still refers to Macron as “a creature” of the capitalist elite while saying that without Mélenchon’s movement “the Left could be liquidated Such dramatic language seems partly justified as I walk through Amiens city centre There are plenty of boarded-up shop windows while beggars and the homeless are on almost every street In the alleyways that lead to Notre-Dame de Amiens the city’s magnificent medieval Gothic cathedral used syringes used by drug addicts litter the ground The unemployment rate in Amiens hovers around 10% higher than the national average by around three points and young people in this student city are particularly affected like plenty of their contemporaries across France drawn to radical alternatives to the traditional party system decimated in the first round of the election this has created a big opportunity for Le Pen’s Rassemblement National which has been concentrating on the soaring cost of living “Marine Le Pen today focuses on the purchasing power that is a huge problem for many French,” says Yaël Menache Le Pen’s rudimentary economic policies include wiping out many taxes for the under-30s and cutting VAT on energy from 20% to 5.5% All of which is potentially attractive if costed responsibly but bigotry remains at the heart of the RN project Its current campaign slogan is “Giving the French their money back” and indeed French citizens not considered properly integrated By Anne-Elisabeth Moutet The principal victims of a Le Pen presidency would certainly be the ethnic minority communities I visit on the council estates of northern Amiens an emergency action plan was introduced to manage the spiralling food poverty among those living in the high-rises here It followed Amiens Nord being given the official status of a Priority Security Zone which allows the authorities to flood the area with armed riot police to clamp down on those considered a threat to public order This move played into the far-Right trope that “alien” cultures could overrun France with Islam the main target of such poisonous discourse “This is the real extremism,” says Mohammed Dhabi who is a 48-year-old machine fitter whose father moved to Amiens from Morocco in the late Sixties “Muslims are painted as an enemy — not just by Le Pen He wants to control millions of Muslims using increased numbers of police instead of dealing with the real root problems.” a workforce made up of thousands of colonial subjects from North Africa was imported to rebuild Amiens and the influx continued as France’s Empire crumbled the city has one of the largest Muslim populations in Northern France “The problem is that the original work camps turned into sink estates and people were left to rot,” says Mr Dhabi “Now we’re an easy target for those who want to link us with every kind of problem “If some of us do vote for Mélenchon it’s because he supports Muslim communities in a country that is very anti-Muslim,” Mr Dhabi tells me so what are we meant to do — vote for the fascists like Le Pen and Zemmour?” Mélenchon has already told his supporters — 7.7 million backed him in the first round — not to vote for Le Pen Nobody really knows whether this will assist Macron or Le Pen on Sunday even if the latest opinion polls suggest a win for the incumbent by up to 10 percentage points is that whoever becomes the Fifth Republic’s next president cities such as Amiens remain vital indicators of deep discontent across France Macron personifies a complacent faith in republican and EU institutions that are badly in need of reform and it could come sooner rather than later I can’t be 100% sure that he will win this time” will les Amiénois still put up monuments to him one day “Probably… when he is dead,” comes the rather blunt reply so his physical demise is by no means imminent by no means guaranteed — especially if les Amiénois have day a century-old club situated at the provincial city of Amiens is close to one of the flashpoints of the war and also near to the village of Villers-Bretonneux site of a great ANZAC-British triumph in 1918 The club started its golf day in 2018 to pay homage to the Commonwealth soldiers who fought for European freedom a century ago The link with Australia and New Zealand is firmly ensconced in local culture Amiens members took an acorn from the famous War Memorial Oak in Adelaide and planted it on the 16th hole at their club That tree still flourishes as a further reminder of the unbreakable connection between the countries And while the golf day is a popular addition to the calendar at Amiens and some Australians made the trip in the early years and the club is anxious to see more antipodeans in town when the event occurs this April one of the two club members who started the Memorial Golf Day at Amiens says the idea came to her one day on the drive through the myriad war cemeteries and memorials that are dotted around The Somme river area She took her children to visit them and nowadays her grandchildren also have paid homage “We stop now and then and visit the war graves and we see huge numbers of young men buried with all different stories Our kids have grown up with that and touched by that My son brought his son here and he did the same When you live in the middle of this history then you can’t not be touched by the whole affair.” Ms Bougon is president of the organising committee and helps organise the exhibition that is held as part of the golf day each year Cooperating with local museums and associations Ambiens is decorated with war memorabilia for the day they had the Red Baron’s aeroplane on site It is not a commercial exercise; Amiens merely seeks to pay tribute to deeds of the past and enhance the relationship between the countries involved “We wanted to do something,” said Ms Bougon “It was the centenary of the peace (in 2018) and many things were organised in the region Many people came from all these Commonwealth countries We decided to join that movement and the best thing for us was to have a golf competition “All the people of all those countries travelling here we wanted them to know that we are also very touched by the memory of their soldiers and the sacrifice that their ancestors made to have peace in Europe It was natural for us to organise a golf event because that is our passion We hoped that the people driving around to the war graves would come to join us in golf The sport is always a bridge to brotherhood if you know what I mean.” The golf day is held on the Friday closest to Anzac Day each year; this year on the actual day Ms Bougon said the organisers were well aware that thousands of Australians and New Zealanders would be in the area around that time to visit war cemeteries and museums and the Sir John Monash Centre which can be seen from the 16th tee at Amiens “We know there are a lot of Australians coming and among them NOTE: Amiens can help with finding local accommodation and with golf equipment and any other information.
