A large amount of suspected cocaine was seized during a traffic stop on Interstate 10 today according to the Beaumont Police Department Around 7:25 a.m., BPD said narcotics officers were patrolling along I-10 Eastbound near Hamshire when they noticed a white 15-passenger van towing a U-Haul trailer commit a traffic violation which alerted to the presence of narcotics Officers searched the trailer and found 12 black and yellow totes containing about 579 kilograms (1,276.48 pounds) of suspected cocaine Parker was arrested and booked into the Jefferson County Jail on a charge of possession of a controlled substance over 400 grams The Beaumont Independent School District (BISD) is set to implement a new policy requiring students from sixth grade through high school to lock their cellphones in Yondr pouches during the school day Yondr Pouch is a lockable pouch designed to store mobile cellular devices "We are implementing this in the upcoming school year We've already started an internal committee consisting of principals to go over policies." which has been in development for three years aims to reduce distractions and improve students' mental health and academic engagement Maxwell noted that the district's research indicates the pouches lead to fewer disciplinary incidents and enhance students' focus BISD has allocated $250,000 to provide these pouches which have already been successfully used in other districts The district has visited these schools to observe the positive effects firsthand The introduction of the Yondr pouches will begin with visits to schools to familiarize students with the new devices Beaumont — The Beaumont Fire Department is on scene putting out a fire in a building behind a home on Roberts Avenue near Avenue A Another viewer shared a photo from downtown Beaumont Texas (KPLC) -
