the Nouvelle Aquitaine region hosted two ITF women's tennis tournaments: the Biarritz Basque Country ENGIE OPEN and the Périgord ENGIE OPEN.
Both of these tournaments were opportunities for young French hopefuls to try their serves on clay
Margaux Rouvroy and Tessah Andrianjafitrimo were among those competing. Many children from the “Fête le Mur” charity were invited by ENGIE to come and play tennis on the tournaments’ courts
Thanks to support from the ENGIE Foundation
both ENGIE OPEN tournaments got to welcome beneficiaries from Fête le Mur centres in Bordeaux (Gironde) and Boulazac.
The Biarritz ENGIE OPEN also invited around forty young girls as part of the “En avant les filles” (Forwards
girls) campaign supported by the ENGIE Foundation
The initiative provided young girls just starting their tennis careers with the opportunity to train on the tournament's courts
Congratulations to Frenchwoman Fiona Ferro for winning the Biarritz ENGIE OPEN
The Biarritz ENGIE OPEN and the Périgord ENGIE OPEN are two of the 13 tournaments that ENGIE is supporting in 2023
ENGIE is proud to have been actively supporting women's tennis throughout the country for 31 years

a team can fall off their pedestal without really knowing why
The Roca Team seemed untouchable since the start of the season
and they have suffered two losses in a row
The coach is doesn’t seem to care for any excuses for this first defeat in the league
with little time to prepare for this match
we must always keep a certain level that we did not have tonight,” he said on the club’s official website after the match
the ASM thought they might eke out the win as they went up by 4 points with three minutes left in regulation
A poor showing from the free-throw line that leaves much to be desired (50%) and too many poorly chosen 3 point shots in the course of the second half
Boulazac turned over the ball often but the visiting team simply lacked enough precision to capitalize on these mistakes
the club will return to the welcoming home crowd in the Principality with two appointments in a row at the Gaston-Médecin arena against Ulm (Eurocup
Wednesday at 6:45 pm) and Strasbourg in the league
The goal is obvious: to show that this difficult week was only a blip

Brandon Ubel is in his second year as a graduate manager on the men's basketball staff after recently finishing a professional basketball career with teams in Belgium and France
Ubel’s final stop was with Boulazac Basket Dordogne
helping the squad to a runner-up finish in the French Cup during the 2017-18 season
Ubel spent most of his professional career in Belgium
and then returning to Brussels from 2015-17
Ubel was a standout at the University of Nebraska
suiting up the Huskers from 2010-13 and appearing in 125 games
7.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game in his final Big Ten Tournament run
leading Nebraska to the conference quarterfinals for the first time since the 2009-10 season
Ubel scored in double figures in 11 of 13 non-conference games during his senior year
including opening the year with a bang with a career-high 21 points and a then-career-high of 12 rebounds against Southern
Ubel was at his best at the free throw line
where he shot 80.2 percent for his career to finish fifth all time in school history
Ubel played under current head coach Craig Smith for a year at Nebraska
when Smith was an assistant coach with the Huskers
Ubel was also at Nebraska when the team made the transition from the Big 12 to the Big 10
In Ubel’s final two years with the Huskers
he played against the likes of current NBA players Tristan Thompson
Ubel is anticipated to help in the day-to-day operations of the men’s basketball program

The LNB Pro A and Pro B salaries for 2014/15 have been released and the figures are fascinating reading
particularly so considering I don’t speak French
I have a mate with good French whose other half has even better French because she is French
This is how we managed to understand the clearly presented data
the league you are more likely to follow in a moment but first Pro B because…MONACO HAS ALL THE MONEY
Their total gross salary is over €400,000 more than their next biggest spender in Pro B
The next biggest spenders Boulazac Basket Dordogne are spending €877,000
Monaco’s salary spend is also greater than 7 of Pro A’s 18 clubs
Here’s how the top flight spending breaks down
While Asvel’s total budget is larger
Limoges has a clear lead in the salary stakes with €395,000 more allocated towards wages
It’s not entirely surprising given Limoges having a guaranteed spot in the Euroleague regular season but it’s still a sizeable edge in expenditure
Strasbourg comes in slightly ahead of Paris Levallois in third
The decrease in wages is staggered without too many notable jumps until we hit the very end
STB Le Havre’s €730,000 in salaries is €303,000 lower than second lowest spenders Boulogne

“Jeep Elite” Basketball: Monaco – Boulazac on Sunday 12 May 2019
Boulazac Basket Dordogne produced an impressive display at Le Palio on Saturday night to claim a momentous victory over huge favourites AS Monaco
withstanding a late fightback from the Monegasques to preserve their early lead and rise to fourth in the Jeep Elite rankings
widely tipped as one of the favourites to retain the title for the third year running
have now lost two of their opening three games and sit in lowly 13th place
blitzing the Monaco defence in an opening quarter which saw them take a commanding 22-7 lead
Akil Mitchell and Raymond Cowells held tight at the back
while in attack the duo of Nicolas de Jong and Kenny Chery caused no end of problems for Monaco
The visitors did their best to reduce the deficit in the second quarter but Thomas Andrieux’s team held firm
with the score at 37-23 in favour of the Périgourdins at half-time
Head coach Sašo Filipovski clearly had some choice words for his players during the interval
because Monaco came flying out of the traps in the third quarter
they had reduced the deficit to just four points – 48-44 – before a well-taken three-pointer from Lasan Kromah restored some breathing space for the home team going into the final quarter
It would have been easy for their faith to waver at this point
but an astounding attacking display from Chery
de Jong and Jean-Frédéric Morency allowed Boulazac to canter to a 77-61 victory
They did well to impose their own pace at the beginning of the match
The fact that we played Thursday is not an excuse.”
Sasa Obradovic did not like this collective performance at all… “From the start, we did not come to play and that performance from a team that has certain ambitions, is not acceptable. We did not deserve to win and we have to analyze our mistakes. This is the worst match from us since the beginning of the season,” he said on the club’s official website
The start of the match was costly for the ASM
the players suffered a 20-7 Maccabi Rishon run that hurt
Monaco believed that all was not lost and came back to within three points by halftime
But it was not the night for the Roca squad
having a big night and this victory rewards certainly rewards most enterprising team
the team remains 2nd overall and the reception of Ulm
next week should be an opportunity to get things back on track
the Monegasque team will next still be traveling to Boulazac
