Cesson-Sévigné canoe and rafting sports stadium serves professional athletes
Sunkid, a leading provider of attractions for the whole family, is helping white-water athletes and emerging talents prepare for the 2024 Paris Olympics
The firm has equipped the training facility in Cesson-Sévigné, France, with a new water conveyor belt. This technology was previously used in 2021 for the wild water stadium at the Olympics in Tokyo
operates “Base Sports Nature” which provides a variety of facilities for athletes
The town focuses on water and boating activities
particularly at its updated white-water stadium

the canoe and rafting sports stadium was renovated and enlarged in 2023 with the addition of a 120-meter-long white-water pool and state-of-the-art pump technology
With a maximum flow rate of 12 m³/s and a total height difference of 3.5 metres
the facility meets International Canoe Federation (ICF) requirements
These rigorous standards are also met by its new boat transport system
we have equipped the Olympic white-water stadium in Tokyo (2021) and the white-water facility “Neue Donau” in Vienna with some of our water conveyor belts before
Thanks to the “Terre de Jeux” label for the overall system
international kayak and canoe athletes are training for the Olympic summer games 2024 in Paris in Cesson-Sévigné as well.”
Sunkid’s technology eliminates the need for athletes to carry bulky equipment
so they can concentrate on training and upcoming competitions
The endless conveyor belt is powered by an 11-kW electric motor and equipped with a Rufftop surface
This transports athletes and boats safely and comfortably from the end of the canoe section to the raised start
All loading and unloading take place in the water as even big rafts carrying multiple passengers can be carried on the 2-meter wide belt
Wohlfarter adds: “With its multi-functional usage concept for top athletes and young talents and as a public leisure facility for families and schools experiencing water sports for the first time
the project in Cesson-Sévigné is reflecting the Sunkid philosophy of striving to be a global market leader for outdoor person conveyor belts (with more than 4,000 of them installed to date) and the first point of contact for year-round leisure attractions for the entire family.”
Sunkid recently presented its amusement park attractions as well as its transportation and equipment for ski domes, waterpark conveyors, summer toboggan runs and wooden playgrounds at SEA Expo
The event took place from 7 – 9 May 2024 at the Riyadh Front Exhibition & Conference Center in Riyadh

France: French President Emmanuel Macron has called on Europe to “wake up” and spend more on defence in order to reduce its reliance on the United States for its security
in a speech to the French military just as Donald Trump was inaugurated
saying it was an “opportunity for a European strategic wake-up call.” It was his New Year’s speech to the military at the Army Digital and Cyber Support Command based near Rennes in western France
Trump has criticised the cost of the war in Ukraine for US taxpayers through major military aid packages and has made it clear that he wants to shift more of the fiscal burden onto Europe
He has vowed to bring the conflict to a swift end
even vowing to end it within 24 hours of taking office
this conflict will not be resolved tomorrow
adding that peace in Europe required Europeans to be at the negotiating table
He also said Russia would pose a security challenge for Europe and the wider world for a long time
even if there was an end to the war in Ukraine
France and Europe needed to adapt to evolving threats and changing interests

Germany’s 2022 decision to launch the “European Sky Shield” air-defence system with US and Israeli hardware
spend more for our defence to subsidise the industry
“When we say ‘let’s spend more for our armies’
Such concerns have long been dismissed as self-serving by countries that have relied on the US security umbrella since at least World War II
But Trump’s more aggressive stance has made EU members more receptive
Macron said Europeans should also simplify the European defence industry
Europe has 47 different industrial platforms for its naval industry while the US has only six
He called for more joint European weapons development
adding: “We won’t always be the European champions
But at least we’ll be sure the European champions have a global reach.”
Macron said France now had “Europe’s most efficient army” and met NATO’s military budget target of 2 per cent of GDP
but could not rest on its laurels at a time when the US might withdraw troops from Europe
And he suggested that 2 per cent might not be enough “when the world is going off track”
