NSN: You were the Mountain West freshman of the year for the women's tennis team at Nevada
I only knew it when they literally called my name on the phone
I remember when I was walking out to take my prize
NSN: Let's get a little bit into your backstory
Tell us a little bit about your background and how you grew up
AC: My mother always wanted to have athletes with my brother
NSN: What was it about tennis that you fell into and knew that you were good at
but I really do love tournaments and competitions
that feeling that you're so proud of yourself
NSN:Tell us about how you got out here to Reno
I always wanted to go to college in United States to combine tennis and study
but I got an issue at the last minute with another university
NSN:What was your first impression when you came out here to Reno
I remember the cold and people were so nice with me
NSN: What's been the biggest adjustment as you not only become a college student-athlete but adapt to a new place so far from home
What's been the most fun part of moving to America and maybe the most difficult part
I'm always dreaming to do the my studies in the United States
But the most difficult part is being far from my family
Bye Mom!' But now I'm calling her saying
Mom!' I'm really attached to my family
NSN: When are you going to get to see them next
I'm kind of like counting the days now
NSN: What's the thing you're most looking forward to going back home
but is there a restaurant or a food dish or a place you want to visit when you get back home
like do tournaments on clay court because here we don't have that
So playing and seeing my family and have a good time
NSN: Did you grow up playing on clay courts
NSN: How big of an adjustment is playing on hardcourts here in America because clay courts are a little bit slower and the mobility aspect is a lot different
I really love it because my volley is so fast
But I think here I have to be more focused on the hard court
so you're one of the better players on the team
What were your expectations when you came here to play for Nevada
Did you think you would automatically have this much success or has this surprised you
NSN: We talked about French food back home
What is a food you've tried since you've come to America that you've really liked
NSN: So usually when you get a burger here
AC: It's better (in France).French fries are so good
NSN: You talked about your dream coming here to college to play in America
When did you know that was something you could actually do
AC:I think in middle school because tennis was getting more serious
I try to look at what can I do after high school for the future
And I've always been like a huge fan of the United States
NSN: How is the reality of living in America measured up to the dream and what you thought it would be like
and I don't know maybe I had some stereotype about the United States
I just had an idea that living here would be different
I was really shocked by that when I first came here
NSN: You've been able to travel around as you play tournaments and events
Is there a favorite visit or stop that you've made
How did how did you adjust to the snow that we've had
I'm sure people have told you we don't usually get quite this much snow
'I cannot practice in these conditions.'
so it makes it a little bit more difficult when you go out there
What are your goals for the next three years
I just want to enjoy my college and played the best as I can and see what I can do
You said that's something you learn early on in France to be able to be bilingual
What has intrigued you in terms of the courses you've been taking and where you want to focus in academics
I choose this major because I've always been passionate about all kind of art
It's really interesting for me to see the difference of education
They're really by your side and want to do everything for you
It's really good to have this rapport
NSN:Do you have a favorite artist or somebody who inspires you
NSN: What has it been like to have other athletes from France on the tennis team
AC: It's really good to have people from your home country
It was really easy for me to be understood by my mate if I run into any issues

Ibrahima Diallo has already had quite the footballing journey
Born in Tours, France, in 1999, Southampton’s new midfielder wasn’t spotted by a professional team until he was 15
He had been playing amateur-level football for Chambray-les-Tours for seven years but in 2014 he had a change in fortune
which would see him follow in the same footsteps as his older brother
three years before his younger sibling arrived on the French Riviera hoping to make his mark
but Diallo joined an academy side that featured a young Kylian Mbappe
The two players worked their way up and were both part of the team that won the Coupe Gambardella — the equivalent of the FA Youth Cup – in 2016
Diallo found himself needing to play regularly and joined Stade Brest 29 on loan
with that move becoming a permanent transfer in 2019
One source close to the French club explained to The Athletic what Southampton can expect from their new midfielder, even comparing him to PSG’s Marco Verratti
“He is less physically impressive than his brother but he is a No 6 and is very good with the ball. His new club plays football and it will be a good choice. Even if he has problems to make an impact because of the physicality in the Premier League
I think he will be good for the style of football Southampton play
He never gets under stress; he keeps very calm
“It took him a long time to settle in the team but his coach always showed trust in him
He could play 20 games because of COVID-19 stopping the season and also as he had an injury
“He only played 20 games or something at a very good level but that was enough to convince a Premier League team.”
Had things turned out differently for Southampton
The St Mary’s hierarchy thought they had a deal in the bag for Ibrahim Sangare
A fee had been agreed with Toulouse and personal terms weren’t an issue
Sangare was denied a visa at the final hurdle
eventually leading to him signing for PSV Eindhoven
This meant Southampton had to act quickly to ensure Ralph Hasenhuttl wasn’t left short in midfield
there are plenty of boxes that need ticking to play the No 6 role in his team
“They definitely need to cover some distance and be aggressive against the ball
knowing when to keep and pass the ball and also having some acceleration,” said Hasenhuttl
“I think from what I have seen (of Diallo) so far shows us a lot of these qualities.”
getting them to play for your club is another
Southampton weren’t the only side interested in buying him
Fellow Premier League teams Leicester and Arsenal are believed to have been admirers
were toying with the idea of bringing him back to the principality
The Athletic’s source revealed Diallo turned to Abdou to help guide him on his next move
explaining: “He always follows the advice of his brother.”
so did the initial meeting between Hasenhuttl and Diallo
you can be sure that I speak with everybody,” Hasenhuttl revealed
“I must say that it was a very smart dialogue
He asked a lot of questions and that is normal for players
His party are a group which knows what they want as the next step for him.”
Thanks to new rules introduced last week for elite sports
Diallo was able to travel to the United Kingdom from France for a medical without having to quarantine
the defensive midfielder had to return a negative COVID-19 test before stepping foot on the plane
he was able to make the trip across the Channel and complete his medical on Saturday
Unlike Mohammed Salisu
Diallo is expected to start challenging for a spot in Hasenhuttl’s starting XI straight away
walking into the first team isn’t guaranteed
Oriol Romeu hasn’t done anything that warrants him being dropped — and even scored a stunning volley in Sunday’s 2-0 win against West Brom
Diallo’s physicality, as referenced by The Athletic’s source, could result in the midfielder needing time to adapt to the rigours of the Premier League. The international break would normally be a good window of time for this but he will be representing France Under-21s against Liechtenstein and Slovakia
Southampton’s manager has frequently said he prefers working with younger players who
are more receptive to learning his ways as they haven’t got years of experience behind them
“He already has a child,” explained one source
“He is the kind of player who remains peaceful in his everyday life
He is not bling bling or the type of young player who will buy a huge car
“We will see if he can cope with the physical impact of the Premier League
