today announces it is moving its operations from Toulouse-Blagnac Airport to a new eco-conscious facility in Colomiers
Located in the heart of Europe’s strategic cluster for high-tech industry and biotechnology
the new building consolidates the international and domestic activities of FedEx Express in France – line-haul
and pick-up and delivery activities – in a new facility that prioritizes sustainability and the local environment
the building has been certified BREEAM ‘Good’ (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method)
for its high energy and environmental performance
The new facility features sustainable building materials
330 sqm of installed solar panels also generate renewable energy used onsite and help ensure the facility is ready to meet the demands of potential future fleet electrification
“This new facility reflects the environmentally-conscious approach and consideration for sustainability that we want to have in all we do
reducing waste or incorporating the most modern technical equipment
we have strived to minimize the environmental impact of the building and our operations
As we continue on our journey to carbon neutral operations by 2040
this is a great example of how FedEx Express is readying facilities to include green energy production and support the sustainable technologies of the future,” said Mathilde Goffard
Vice President of Ground Operations for FedEx Express in France
In addition to energy performance and waste reduction measures
the facility was designed in close collaboration with an ecologist specializing in land-use planning to preserve the land and the creatures that currently inhabit it by ensuring they can co-exist with adequate access to food and shelter
Included in the building’s construction are three hedgehog shelters
the installation of insect hotels that are also used as summer shelters for small reptiles
and five purpose-built bat shelters integrated into the cladding of the building
This is only the second time that such an innovative initiative has been implemented in France in the context of land-use planning for corporate structures
As well as the reintroduction of local vegetation species
retaining the woodland’s natural state on the northern side of the site to maintain the balance of the biodiversity
The introduction of innovative new technical equipment at the facility will also help ensure that the company can deliver more with less environmental impact
equipped with technology deployed for the first time in a FedEx Express station in France
With an operational sorting capacity of 5,500 packages per hour
this new technical equipment allows FedEx Express to respond to continued increase in local and gateway activity for import and export flows
which includes a global goal to achieve carbon neutral operations by 2040
FedEx will continue its efforts to make its more than 5,000 facilities more sustainable
the company will designate more than $2 billion of initial investment across three key areas including vehicle electrification

Namibia's baguette-loving captain Johan Deysel says he cannot wait to lead his side into Thursday's Rugby World Cup pool match against France
a country where he spent half a decade of his life
it was incredible for me and my family to live in France," Deysel told AFP of his time at Colomiers
a team in the second-tier ProD2 based on the outskirts of Toulouse
I always miss the bread when I'm not in France
"I'll always come back for holidays to see friends I've made over the past five years
Deysel touched down in Colomiers in November 2018 from South Africa
where he was on the books of the Sharks in Durban
eight or 10 days he was there," club recruitment manager Yann Kergourlay said
Kergourlay had had his eye on the centre since he watched him score Namibia's sole try in a 58-14 defeat by New Zealand at the 2015 World Cup
he played a great game and defensively he's very solid," the Colomiers man reminisced of the player who stands 1.84m (6ft) tall and weighs in at 93kg (14st 6lb)
"He's also capable of busting the gainline
He's not blessed with an extraordinary physique
Colomiers coach Julien Sarraute hailed Deysel as a "model teammate"
covers lots of space and works non-stop for the team," he said
the 31-year-old soon became the first name on the teamsheet
"I saw him 15 minutes after the All Blacks match (in Toulouse last week)
when I see the respect that people have for him
well frankly it doesn't surprise me," Kergourlay told AFP
the coaching staff were taken aback that no Top 14 clubs were interested in him
that didn't work out for him and I'm disappointed about that
I would have liked for him to have lived that adventure," said coach Sarraute
the decision was taken to not renew Deysel's contract
"I won't hide from you that it was a super tough decision that I will certainly regret," Sarraute said
Not least because Deysel managed to seduce club officials at Colomiers
a traditional breeding ground of rugby players
not least France internationals Fabien Galthie
Jean-Luc Sadourny and current Les Bleus centre Yoram Moefana
He's someone who oozes well-being," said Kergourlay
"He enjoyed a very important role in the squad," said former France under-20s centre Fabrice Catala
a hard worker who is always there despite the language barrier."
Deysel said he loved living in the peaceful town of Pibrac and playing in France
a "special country" that had helped evolve his game
"The French are very exciting rugby players
you have to take it and just throw the ball around
that’s how they play and you can even see it in the national team
Deysel lamented the absence in the France team of lock Paul Willemse
a friend with whom he played for the Namibian under-18 team
And among his former teammates at Colomiers was scrumhalf Mathis Galthie
although Deysel was quick to say there had been no insider trading
but I don't think tips would really help because the French team is very good and full of quality players!"
