Akanksha Salunkhe downed local player Lauren Baltayan 3-0 (11-9, 11-4, 14-12) in the second round before surviving a scare against Briton Kiera Marshall in the quarter-finals.
Marshall, who had knocked out top seed Marie Stephan in the previous round, forced Salunkhe to a decider before the Indian clinched the match 3-2 (11-5, 11-4, 9-11, 7-11, 11-7).
Fifth seed Menna Walid of Egypt in the semi-finals proved an easier challenge for Salunkhe, who won the match 3-0 (15-13, 11-9, 11-6) after a tough opening game. Walid had earlier knocked out Salunkhe’s compatriot Tanvi Khanna in the quarter-finals.
Tanvi Khanna had beaten France’s Lea Barbeau and Great Britain’s Asia Harris, the fourth seed, in the opening two rounds before falling to Walid.
Akanksha Salunkhe’s best performance this year prior to this title win was at the ACE Challenger Tour 12k, where she made the semi-finals. The Indian squash player will be in action next at the Malaysia Squash Cup, which starts from November 12.
