has been confirmed as the host of the 2026 Motocross of Nations (MXoN)
marking the fourth time this venue has welcomed the international race
The city first hosted an MXoN race in 2005
Ernée was scheduled to host the event in 2020 before it was canceled due to the global COVID-19 pandemic
“I think everybody still remembers last year’s Motocross of Nations in Ernée,” David Luongo

The Community of Communes of Ernée in France is set to deploy two immersion-cooled data centers
The Community of Communes of Ernée in France is set to deploy two immersion cooled data centers
centers will be used by the 15 municipalities that are members of the joint Information Systems service
The project is being conducted by Numains Group and will use Hyperion's immersion cooled solution
Hyperion says that this removes the need for air conditioning
and can save up to 50 percent in electricity consumption
The Hyperion solution is a stainless steel tank containing a biodegradable fluid that is not electrically conductive
the Communes of Ernée will become the first French local authority to have immersion cooling in its data center premises
The data centers will be located on the premises of the Community of Communes and at the AquaFitness de l'Ernée
The current installation date is expected for the summer of 2024
DCD has contacted Ernée for more information about the capacity of the data centers
the waste heat will be reused by nearby buildings for central heating or underfloor heating
This is hoped to help the municipalities in their aim of carbon neutrality by 2040
The data centers are expected to operate at a PUE of less than 1.1
a company that supports companies in setting up their digital infrastructure and IT systems
A similar project in the UK is run by Deep Green which has a "digital boiler," a small immersion-cooled system installed at a leisure center in Devon
where its waste heat warms a swimming pool

Frenchman takes first pro win in crash-marred final ahead of Penhoët
Emilien Jeannière (TotalEnergies) has sprinted to victory in a crash-marred stage 1 of the Boucles de la Mayenne
with several riders going down in the final metres
Second was Paul Penhoët (Groupama-FDJ), with Axel Zingle (Cofidis) in third on the slightly uphill sprint into Ernée
the three-man breakaway group was caught within sight of the finish line
with Jeannière far enough ahead to avoid getting caught up in the big crash to claim his first professional victory
Prologue winner Benoît Cosnefroy (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale) retains the overall race lead by one second from Ivo Oliveira (UAE Team Emirates)
“I’ve been waiting for this win for a long time,” Jeanniere
“and I hoped it was going to come this year.”
technical and with a bit of downhill just before and a couple of corners
I was a bit far back with 600 metres to go
and we came past the break at the last moment and I got up to Penhoet and then overtook him.”
A four-man breakaway featuring Petr Kelemen (Tudor Pro Cycling)
Jeremy Leveau (Van Rysel-Roubaix) and Antoine Hue (CIC U Nantes Atlantique) made it off the front in the opening kilometres
Martin was fastest in the opening sprint at La Bourgneuf-la-Foret
30 seconds down on Cosnefroy in the prologue
But the quartet's main aim was to build as big a lead as possible
which finally peaked out at 3:35 before the sprinters' teams began to react
TotalEnergies and then Decathlon-AG2R La Mondiale
kept a solid but not excessively harsh control on the front
having a break ahead with a small gap was ideal as it soaked up all the sprint bonuses and helped maintain his lead on a very tight GC ranking
and so it was only when EF-Education EasyPost added their weight that the gap began to descend a little more sharply
Martin continued to pick up more sprint points and bonus seconds at Fougerolles du Plessis (km.113)
along with the maximum mountain points on offer on the three classified climbs of the day
But beyond those brief skirmishes for the secondary classifications
the four collaborated well and with 50 kilometres remaining
More and more sprinters' teams lent themselves to a very sustained pursuit
notably a very committed Lotto-Dstny and a little later
A stage running largely along constantly rolling
though and when the break approached the finish town of Ernee for the first time
they still had the bones of two minutes in their favour
Hard work from Thomas de Gendt for Lotto-Dstny kept the pace high
while Martin snatched up the final sprint points on offer when the four ahead passed through the finish line and onto the first of two laps of a 10-kilometre local circuit
Martin finally cracked on a false flat
but the trio who remained proved a much more difficult task for the pack to reel in
with Kelemen in particular a real powerhouse
Groupama-FDJ even sacrificed their third rider on GC
The three breakaways continued to grit their teeth
making the most of the constant twists and turns in the road to stay out of sight of the bunch
and it was clearly going to be touch and go if the move stayed away
“Five more seconds,” Cosnefroy later observed
“and they’d have made it.”

Maxime Desprey and Mathis Valin were crowned as the new 24MX Elite Champions last weekend at the series’ final round in Ernée
GSM Yamaha´s Maxime Desprey swept the opening round in Basly
he kept the red plate every round by winning three overalls out of six
With the absence of his main rival Valentin Guillod
a 3-7 for 4th overall was enough to wrap up the title
his teammate Greg Aranda took the win via 2-1 over Jordi Tixier 1-2
The podium was filled by Adrien Malaval 4-3
Mathis Valin took the title in his first season
Despite missing the third round due to the EMX250 calendar

Team HRC riders played their part in an epic day of racing at the 2023 Motocross of Nations
held at the amazing Ernee circuit in France
Team HRC riders played their part in an epic day of racing at the 2023 Motocross of Nations
Jett and Hunter Lawrence helped Australia to their best ever Nations finish with a second overall
while Tim Gajser provided the best scores as Slovenia also posted their first ever top 10 result with ninth overall
Elsewhere Ruben Fernadez gave everything he had to try and get Team Spain on the podium
but wasn’t quite able to make it happen after two gutsy rides
Gajser gave up his gate-pick to help the Slovenian MX2 rider
which meant he was outside the top 20 as he rounded the first bend
he was able to get up to 10th but the leaders were well clear by the time he settled into a good rhythm
which wasn’t what he was looking for individually
but it was still a good score for Slovenia
With the MXGP and MX2 riders being up first
this put the Lawrence brothers on the gate for Australia and although Jett had a good jump
a crash on the third corner dropped him to the back of the pack by the time he had remounted
Hunter’s Honda CRF250R did well to battle inside the top 15 but on the large hills of Ernee
he had to fight for every inch and did well to get 10th overall
by the halfway point he was up to 12th and in the final laps he really went on a charge to move all the way up to sixth by the time he crossed with the chequered flag
It was a great performance and together with Hunter’s result
it gave Australia a strong start as they went after the Chamberlain Trophy
The second moto saw the Open riders line up for the first time alongside the MX2 class
with Spain’s Fernandez ripping a great start on his Honda CRF450R to get into the lead by the third corner
the HRC rider kept his lead until the midway point of the race
where unfortunately a small off-track detour cost him eight positions
and managed to crossed the line in seventh position
Hunter had once again overcome his CC disadvantage to put himself in the top five
giving him second in the MX2 class and almost guaranteeing a second Aussie MXON podium in a row
It was an all-450cc affair for race three as the MXGP class joined the Open riders to decide who would win the Chamberlain Trophy
Fernandez and Jett would all be on the line
And it was the Australian who was best out of the gate
with Fernandez in fifth and Gajser just behind in sixth
checking out and adding a Motocross of Nations moto victory to his already impressive 2023 resumé
which was another solid result and enough to move Slovenia into the best overall finish ever
Fernandez was unable to keep his form throughout the moto
with a couple of quick crashes forcing him into pitlane and ultimately dropping him out of a good points-scoring position
an improvement on last year’s third place but still not quite enough to hold aloft the Chamberlain Trophy
Fernandez’s seventh in moto two helped Spain to seventh overall
while Gajser’s Slovenia were delighted with their ninth
in what was a strong performance from all of Team HRC and a fitting finale to what has been an exceptional year for the manufacturer
The promising Belgian took his first victory of the year on the road
Thibaut Van Damme won the opening stage of the Tour du Bocage et de l’Ernée 53
the French race running its third edition this weekend
comprising five small classified climbs before an uphill drag to the line
The race came to life long before the finish
when a small but strong group rode away as the peloton fragmented under the numerous attacks that came
Soudal Quick-Step U19 had two riders there – Thibaut Van Damme and Maksymilian Matyasik – and the duo’s combined effort was instrumental in helping the group stay away
outsprinting his opponents on the way to our junior’s team first win of the season
A success on the road that came just two months after Thibaut became double national champion on the track
and a result that puts him in the leader’s jersey ahead of Sunday’s two half-stages: the individual time trial in the morning and the undulating road race in the afternoon

There’s no rest for Tim Gajser after winning the final MXGP World Championship round at Matterley Basin
The Slovenian has been putting in the preparation for the MXoN coming up at Ernee
Get Gajser’s thoughts on his season and if he can beat Jett Lawrence at Ernee below:
Spain already has its team for the 2023 Motocross of Nations that will be held in Ernée
the Spanish team arrives in top shape to be one of the main protagonists of the most important event of the year in this discipline
Along with Prado will be a very strong Rubén Fernández and David Braceras
and together they will defend the colors of Spain
Fernández and Braceras we have a great opportunity to achieve the best result in our history and dream of victory. The rivals will be very tough
but the entire structure has the motivation and quality to be ahead. Team Spain will be assisted by the three factory teams with their entire structure at their disposal
the team will have José Antonio Butrón as reserve riders
national coach: “I think we have a very good team for this year
with a clear objective of improving last year’s result without putting a ceiling on ourselves
which if everything goes well it is possible to achieve and which
I have no doubt that the riders are going to fight for it
We all know that the MXoN is a very special race and that we need a magnificent performance from the 3 riders and their bikes if we want to achieve a great result
There are sure to be some exciting races and I hope to see our Spanish fans supporting the team in Ernée”
Young US rider secured GC lead with 'gutsy ride' with crash and rainy conditions on opening day
Young US rider Ashlin Barry stole the show in France this weekend at Tour du Bocage et de l’Ernée
winning the opening stage of the junior race and also holding firm to claim the GC title across the three stages
It was the first UCI stage race in Europe for Barry
part of the five-rider squad for Team USA Juniors.
After taking the GC lead in a sprint against a breakaway companion on Saturday's stage 1
Barry scored top 10s in a doubleheader on Sunday – an individual time trial and stage 3 road race – to secure the overall victory
Barry, a 16-year-old who rides for the EF Education-ONTO development team
he needed a bike change and help across 45 minutes from teammate Noah Streif to rejoin the lead group and hold his overall lead with a fourth-place finish
Streif was the next highest-placed US rider
The duo were part of the Team USA National squad
one of 14 international teams in the race alongside 21 French teams in the 174 rider strong field
Also racing for Team USA were Enzo Edmonds
Barry won the 120.3km opening stage of Tour du Bocage et de l’Ernée on Saturday
a rain-soaked affair that team director Rusty Miller called “a gutsy ride” for his first stage win.
Stage 1 began with a large circuit from St Ellier du Maine and then a final circuit of 8.18km completed three times for the finish in Pontmain
The team worked to chase down a solo breakaway
A lot of the roads were really twisty and it was pouring rain the whole time and windy
But as the group got smaller and the race went on
so it was definitely sketchy,” Barry said with a broad smile afterwards
Over the next 20km more riders tried to fly solo
including Axel Bouquet (Lepelley Electricite U19) who began losing his 15-second advantage nearing the final finishing lap
Barry made inroads on Bouquet and the two began the final circuit together
After the final corner with 500 metres to go
Barry launched his sprint and won the uphill sprint easily in front of his breakaway companion
I didn’t know if I was going to be able to win it ‘til the end
I was just trying to be patient in the race and go at the right time
I’m happy,” he told race organisers at the finish while clad in his Team USA kit
The second day of racing brought sunny skies for a morning time trial and afternoon stage race to decide the general classification.
Stage 2 was a rolling individual time trial from Chailland covering 13.8km and accentuated by an 18% climb of the Chailland wall at 2.4km from the finish
The ITT began on Rue de Saint-Hilair and crossed river l’Ernée to begin the loop
The stiff climb was just short of one kilometre
which hit once riders passed back through Challiand
The crest of the climb put them on a plateau with a relatively flat finish just past Le Tertre
Louis Chaleil (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale U19) blitzed the route with a win in 19:01
with Barry 47 seconds off the pace in ninth and Streif was 17th
The event concluded with a 106.5km stage 3
there were three full circuits around Chailland
with the fourth pass across the finish line settling all accounts
Karl Sagnier (U19 Indre Fenioux) won stage 3 ahead of 33 other riders who remained in the front group
Ashlin worked his way back from the bike change to save his GC lead by six seconds over Joeri Schaper (ACROG-Tourmans U19)
while Eliott Boulet (CC Plancoët Junior) was 10 seconds back in third

Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP’s Romain Febvre set the benchmark for Team France to win the FIM Motocross of Nations on home soil at Ernée with a stunning victory in the first race of the day.t was Febvre’s fourth victory in four appearances for his country
France’s team captain led from the front
displaying his commitment and national pride from the drop of the gate in the first moto
Sweeping into second within half-a-lap he immediately chased down year-long GP rival Jorge Prado
pressurizing the Spaniard for six laps as the duo moved relentlessly clear of their chasers before executing a well-devised pass to take the lead and immediately opened up a gap before the leaders encountered lapped traffic
With an eye to the national team scores he wisely did not risk pushing harder than necessary on a treacherously slippery race-track surface and fell victim to a surprise pass by his rival with four laps remaining
Urged on frenetically by the massive home crowd the Frenchman dug deep to immediately respond and
he moved back to the front and sprinted clear of his demoralised rival to claim the first home victory of the day for the ecstatic crowd
Having surrendered France’s first gate-pick to his teammate for the final moto the Kawasaki ace was outside the top-ten on the opening lap and faced several extremely obstructive rivals on his way to seventh at half-distance
putting national pride before personal glory in this team event
he sensibly did not put the honour at risk
coasting home seventh to ensure an overwhelming victory for La Grande Nation by a massive twenty points
«It’s unbelievable to win again; my fourth Nations and my fourth victory
I wasn’t completely comfortable with the track yesterday in Qualifying but I knew that I had the ability to turn it round today
I took a good start – second to Prado – in the first moto and then it was like a GP race with me chasing him down
He passed me back near the end and the fight was on; I knew I had to do something and I passed him again with two laps to go
Tom (Vialle) did more than we could expect to finish second in total to Maxime (Renaux) in the second race
so we just had to ride it home in the final moto
Each of us won in our class and we had a big gap to second
I’m so happy for the fans who were behind us so strongly all day; we rode as a team … and we won as a team!»
MXGP made the first of two visits to France this season with the tenth Grand Prix of 2022 taking place on the immaculate hillside course of Ernee
Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Tom Vialle rode to victory in MX2 in front of his home fans
MXGP made a long overdue return to the first-class racing facility at Ernee in northern France
A bumper attendance braved early summer storms in the build-up to the GP and also through practice and qualification on Saturday that turned the clay-soil into a series of long
tough and punishing ruts and bumps. Tom Vialle rode his KTM 250 SX-F to 2nd position during the qualification heat and two top-five starts on Sunday allowed the 21-year-old to make a strong bid for another trophy
He fought off the attention of title rival Jago Geerts to take a popular first moto win and recovered quickly from a brief fall in the second race to place 3rd
The combined tally was enough to walk the top of the rostrum
The 1-3 results meant Vialle’s ninth podium from ten Grands Prix
sixth win from the last eight and ninth moto triumph: at least one from the last seven rounds
His cushion in the championship is now 11 points
a rookie who has been progressing with some bright performances on the edge of the top five in recent meetings
steered his KTM 250 SX-F to 6th overall with a 6-7 score. After back-to-back Grands Prix in Spain and France
MXGP makes it a triple with the journey to Talkessel in Teutschenthal
1st and 3rd for 1st overall in MX2: “An amazing weekend for me
It started out tough with the quali race on Saturday but 2nd position was quite safe for the starts today with the inside gate
I wasn’t riding that freely in the first moto but the fans were unbelievable and pushed me every lap and all the way
In the second moto I had a small crash behind Jago and with the three of us leading and really going for it
I knew when I fell in a muddy section that I wouldn’t catch Jago and Thibault again but I’m really happy to take the overall here.” Results MX2 France 2022 1
6-7 Standings MX2 2022 after 10 of 19 rounds 1
The defending champs finally reveal the lineup for the 2024 Motocross of Nations in Matterley Basin on October 5 & 6 after clinching the sixth Chamberlain Trophy in front of his home crowd last year in Ernée
Romain Febvre will once again lead the team in the MXGP category
while Tom Vialle will once again travel from the United States to defend his nation’s colors in MX2
Both choices were predictable considering the good performance of both riders in their respective championships
despite having suffered a thumb injury in mid-season
has been crowned AMA Supercross champion in the 250SX East Coast and recently finished 3rd in the AMA Pro Motocross final standings
What is interesting is Maxime Renaux’s choice
who has not been competing since the Madrid Grand Prix (March) due to an ankle injury he has been carrying since last year
It´s almost time for the 77th edition of the Motocross of Nations
the biggest motocross event of the year takes place in Matterley Basin
This morning the gate positions for the qualification were drawn and Team Belgium had luck on their side
Lucas Coenen (MX2) and Jago Geerts (OPEN) will be the first riders on choose gates for their respecitve qualifying races
Free Practice sessions have no bearing on gate picks for today’s qualifying races
as those were determined this morning by the ballot.
Team France come in as defending Champions
and in fact they have won six of the last nine Monster Energy Motocross of Nations titles
With exactly the same line-up as last year’s event
and Maxime Renaux will be wearing numbers 1
and despite an injury-interrupted year for the two 450 riders
Vialle has had a strong season in the USA and could be the glue that keep this winning combination together
They are the only team with three World Champions in their line-up
although as with all of last year’s top four Nations
none of them have scored a GP win this season
Team Australia feature two of the biggest stars in Motocross racing with brothers Jett Lawrence and Hunter Lawrence both on factory 450 Honda machinery
joined by top Australian Championship rider Kyle Webster
and could well be the favourites for the event after finishing second last year
It would be their first ever success at the MXoN
Note: Jett Lawrence traded position with Hunter Lawrence
as he moves from MXGP to OPEN while Hunter takes Jett´s spot in MXGP
Team Italy were surprise podium finishers at Ernee last year
and 9 they return with the same trio that got them there in ’23 ft
bring Ken Roczen back once more to the MXoN after he took overall victory in the MXGP class last year
Simon wasn’t born when their Open class rider
but the 37-year-old has dominated the German International Championship in his home country
Team Belgium have had a torrid end to the season with injuries
and at one point their participation looked to be in doubt
and Brent van Doninck will line up at Matterley
but Jeffrey Herlings has been phenomenal at times this season and will be going all-out for a second Nations win for his country
especially alongside new MX2 World Champion Kay de Wolf and many-time Nations winner Glenn Coldenhoff
Team USA look to have a stronger squad in 2024
despite the injury to their new 450 National Champion Chase Sexton
The legend of Eli Tomac will make his first appearance in the UK outdoors
and his addition is a mouth-watering prospect
especially alongside his experience teammate Cooper Webb
and the only returnee from last year’s event
They are definitely contenders for the podium
Team Slovenia and Team Great Britain were the other top ten teams last season
and five-time World Champion Tim Gajser will be keen to prove a point after narrowly losing the MXGP world crown a week ago
Jan Pancar is a rising star capable of getting amongst the top guys as well
The home team bring veteran Tommy Searle back to the MXGP class
with 2017 Matterley winner Max Anstie coming across from the USA to get the home crowd roaring once more
The enigma that is four-time British Champion Conrad Mewse
who has defeated Jeffrey Herlings in the UK this year
looks to bring his domestic pace to the Nations for his home fans
Italy will be looking to fight for another podium with Mattia Guadagnini
Andrea Adamo and Andrea Bonacorsi on October 4
will once again wear the colors of his country this time in the MXGP category
The Neestan Husqvarna rider is already 100% recovered from a shoulder injury that deprived him from competing in several rounds of the Motocross World Championship
Andrea Adamo will take the place in MX2 in what will be his third participation for the reigning world champion in the category
Andrea Bonacorsi will be back in the OPEN category after surprising last year in his debut
being a key piece for Italy to conquer the final third place
Alberto Forato has been selected as a reserve: after an injury that forced him to stop for almost four months
he returned to the track on 22 and 23 June in Ponte a Egola for the Italian championship and his physical shape is constantly improving
“There is less and less time until the 2024 Motocross of Nations and our guys can’t wait to get on the track to demonstrate their worth
Also for this year we have decided to call up a team with a low average age because we believe in the strength of the Italian youth system and because we can count on guys with enviable human and qualitative characteristics
who have demonstrated in recent years that they can achieve excellent results
there will be ambitious teams that will aim high
A candidate for the far-right Rassemblement National is under pressure to stand down from Sunday’s second round of the legislative elections amid claims she previously took a mairie worker hostage at gunpoint
candidate for the third circonscription (constituency) of Mayenne in Pays de la Loire
came second in the area with 31.10% of the vote on June 30
behind centrist candidate and current MP for the area Yannick Favennec.
regional media Ouest-France went through their archives
and claim it found that Ms Bell has made the headlines before - as an armed hostage-taker
It reports that in 1995 she and her husband took the general secretary of Ernée – a small town in the department – hostage after breaking into his office at the mairie
Ms Bell – called Annie-Claire Bell-Jaccoud (or Jacquoud) in reports at the time (she is thought to have been using her husband’s name) – allegedly hid a gun in her coat pocket before entering the town hall
and engaging “in a shouting match” with the general secretary
it is claimed she fired a shot from the gun although this did not injury anyone
A three-hour standoff ensued before local gendarmes convinced the couple to release the hostage uninjured and leave the town hall.
The reason why the couple took the hostage is not known
but Ms Bell’s husband was said to be “in serious financial difficulties” at the time
had been forced to close in 1993 for financial reasons
Earlier this week in the same department candidate Paule Veyre de Soras said the party were not racist ‘because she had a Jewish doctor and a Muslim dentist’.
a RN candidate withdrew from the second round of the legislative elections after photos of her wearing a Nazi officer’s hat surfaced on social media.

Ms Bell was reported to have been charged with séquestration avec arme (unlawful confinement with a weapon) in June 1995
said she would not comment on the claims “until after the elections.”
Her fellow Rassemblement National candidate in the department’s second circonscription Jean-Michel Cadenas added that “[Ms Bell has] no criminal record
certain offences can be removed from criminal records after set periods of time which may explain Mr Cadenas’ comment
putting pressure on her to pull out of the race.
I do not see how a woman like her could represent the people of Mayenne in the National Assembly
current MP for the seat and her competitor in a two-way duel in the upcoming election this Sunday (July 7).
Ms Bell is still running in the second round.

French architects a/LTA shared with us their renovation and extension project for an existing Aquatic Center in Ernée, France. More images and architect’s description after the break.
The Aquatic Center is existing. The proposed project has 2 parts, a renovation, and an extension of the existing building. Synthetically we recall:
Courtesy of a/LTA- The current pool hall is facing South - The access to the technical local is located on the North - The green and mineral beaches are oriented to the South
In extension of this existing base, we reconfigured the access hall, incorporating the administration and staff local, and secondly, building the “lagoon games” close to and in continuity of the existing pool hall.
This extension serves as a link between the existing pool and the Dojo, creating a large body frame, it will be very attractive and modern signal desired. The pool opens wide as previously indicated to the South, whether for the pools, beaches, outdoor solarium and now for the public reception.
Courtesy of a/LTAIndeed, the reconfigured equipment, will take an important place on the site, it also becomes the major restructuring element. We profit of the need to ennoble the hall and to introduce a ‘lagoon games’ to the pool hall to give a different scale to the project.
The consolidation of three entities. Existing pool + outdoor + dojo will become one entity. A metal structure supported by thin metal columns, gives a light and elegant unit that what could be just adding volumes, by drawing a light and elegant line in landscape.
Courtesy of a/LTAThe slope increases the linear vision because of the ground movement
of sheet metal surface and reinforcing this visual impact
the equipment is already naturally placed a bit like on a pedestal
The large South windows give an apparently immaterial vision at all
So the subtle play of shadows made by the sheet metal that signals its presence
we sought to find the right balance between opacity and transparency

The intensity and trajectory of a tornado that hit north-west France on Sunday (September 17) afternoon is being studied
A private body that monitors such weather phenomena reports around 40-50 such events in France each year
The tornado developed between 17:30 and 17:45 between the communes of Saint-Pierre-des-Landes and Ernée in the Mayenne department in the Pays de la Loire region
a tornado and storms observatory (private company)
said it had mainly damaged “agricultural buildings” and “the roofs of two residential buildings”
It only lasted a few seconds and no one was hurt but Keraunos has opened an inquiry to determine the trajectory and intensity of it

Tornadoes are thought to be rare in Europe
with sightings more common in central regions of the US (so-called ‘Tornado Alley’)
they are more common than you might think with Keraunos estimating that there are between 40 and 50 in France every year
Most of them cause little damage and are classified as EF 0 or EF 1 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale
a rating used to classify tornadoes since 2007
In March a tornado registering EF2 hit the village of Pontarion in Creuse

Team France delivered the ultimate prize in front of its home crowd in Ernee at the 2023 Motocross of Nations
- Ray Archer/KTM The 2023 Motocross of Nations will be remembered for many things
but chief among them was the domination of Team France
It had been since the 2018 edition at Red Bud in the US that France had been without victory in the Motocross of Nations (MXoN)
That victory five years ago brought to an end a domination of the event that had lasted since 2014
and the style of France’s victory on home soil last weekend threatens the beginning of a similar dominant period
A post shared by Romain Febvre (@romainfebvre)
Kawasaki's Romain Febvre was perhaps the star attraction
The 2015 MXGP World Champion enjoyed his best World Championship season since that title-winning year in 2023
winning six Grands Prix and finishing second in the standings despite missing the MXGP of Spain due to a concussion picked up in that weekend’s qualifying race
For those unfamiliar with the race’s format, the Motocross of Nations takes three riders from each nation, with each rider assigned to either the MXGP, MX2, or MX Open category. MXGP and MX Open riders race 450cc bikes (although, Belgium’s Liam Everts raced a KTM 350 SX-F in the Open class)
There are three races: the first featuring the MXGP and MX2 riders; the second the MX2 and MX Open riders; and the third the MXGP and MX Open riders
Points are awarded in an ‘Olympic’ format (first place = one point
with the lowest score determining the winner
with the worst result dropped at the end of the day.
Febvre opened the day in fine style for the French team
winning a classic duel in front of his 102,000-strong home crowd at Ernee with the aforementioned Prado in the opening MXGP-MX2 race
took eighth in that opening race but was then able to follow Maxime Renaux home in a French 1-2 of the MX2-MX Open race
That left France way ahead of the competition heading into the third and final race
That meant Vialle’s eighth place from the first race was France’s dropped score
and they took an emphatic win with 14 points
France’s margin of victory was a massive 20 points over Team Australia, even despite the Aussies’ undoubted star power in the form of Jett Lawrence, who famously went unbeaten in the AMA Pro Motocross 450MX championship this summer
Lawrence suffered with bad starts in both the MXGP qualifying race on Saturday and the opening MXGP-MX2 race on Sunday
when he crashed into the track-lining fence on the outside of the fourth turn after the start
Lawrence hauled himself up to sixth place at the flag
passing five-time Motocross World Champion Tim Gajser in the final turn
going on to dominate the moto in a fashion that was all too familiar to those who had watched the aforementioned AMA series over the summer
Australia’s second place was the team’s second podium in two years and the best result at the MXoN
as well as being the first podium for Dean Ferris on his sixth attempt at the race
took 10-5 finishes as the team’s MX2 rider - this being his final race on a 250
Team Italy were fancied by almost no one as a podium challenger in Ernee
The star quality of teams like Germany - with two-time AMA 450MX and 2011 MX2 World Champion Ken Roczen
and multiple-GP winner Simon Laengenfelder - and Spain - with 2023 MXGP World Champion Jorge Prado and GP winner Ruben Fernandez - pushing Italy down the on-paper rankings
Making things worse for Italy was the injury to Mattia Guadagnini - who was supposed to race the MXGP class - which ruled him out of the final MXGP of the season in Matterley Basin two weeks before the Nations
Guadagnini would have been the only remaining member of the 2021 Italian squad that won the Chamberlain Trophy on home soil in Mantova
but his injury meant that he had to be replaced by Andrea Bonacorsi
Bonacorsi, though, turned out to be the star of the Italian show. Having ended the 2023 season as the EMX250 (European Championship) champion, 18-year-old Bonacorsi now had to make his MXoN debut and his 450 debut (riding for Yamaha
Bonacorsi did not have the luxury of a 350 as the aforementioned Everts) at the same time in the Open class
as both his eighth in MX2-MX Open and his 11th in MXGP-MX Open were counted
Italy’s drop score actually came from the 2023 MX2 World Champion Andrea Adamo
but who also rebounded with a fourth in MX2-MX Open
took 12-8 scores to secure the bronze medal for Italy
As for the aforementioned Germany and Spain
was unable to crack the top 15 in either of his races
and Simon Laengenfelder could not finish inside the top 10
meaning that Ken Roczen’s individual overall triumph in the MXGP class was not enough to get Germany on the podium
were let down by crashes for both Ruben Fernandez and Oriol Oliver
who was a late fill-in for the injured David Braceras in the MX2 class
the pressure was all on Fernandez and Prado
crashing out of third place in the MX2-MX Open race to end up seventh
and then again in the MXGP-MX Open race in which he was classified 28th
Belgium and Switzerland were fifth and sixth
while Team USA had a solid enough day considering the many limitations placed on its team selection but was only good enough for eighth in the end (Christian Craig’s lack of race sharpness having not raced since May likely proving the difference between a top 10 and a potential podium for the US); while Slovenia and Team GB completed the top 10.
GB faced an uphill battle from the beginning
having drawn the 36th gate pick for the qualifying heats on Saturday
They made it through to the main finals with little issue
but Team Canada showed just how tough it can be coming from such a low-gate position
although they were fancied for a decent showing in the main races
they ended up getting knocked out of the B-Final on Sunday morning
were able to take 10th place overall, with Ben Watson’s 13th place in the MXGP-MX Open race proving the best race finish for a British rider on the day
It was also confirmed at the weekend that next year’s Motocross of Nations will take place at Matterley Basin in Winchester for the first time since 2017 when Britain’s Max Anstie starred with 1-1 finishes to help Team GB to a podium finish

Kaven Benoit and Dylan Wright have been selected to represent Canada at the 77th Motocross of Nations on October 4
Pettis and Benoit are the newly 2024 Canadian champions in MX1 and MX2 for the KTM Red Bull team
Dylan Wright has four consecutive MX1 titles between 2020-2023 with the Honda HRC team
Canada has never really stood out in Motocross of Nations
In fact in the last twenty years they finished in the Top 10 four times
The best result was an 8th at Lierop (2004) with Jean Sebastian Roy in MX1
Dusty Klatt in MX2 and Morgan Blair in Open
Most recently they finished 10th at Red Bud (2018) with Jess Pettis in MX1
Colton Facciotti in MX2 and Tyler Medaglia in OPEN
Those results mean a lot to the fans and Canadian affiliates
Last year they arrived in Ernée (France) with the hope of achieving the best result in history with a team formed by Dylan Wright in MXGP
Ryder McNabb in MX2 and Jess Pettis in OPEN
The three of them came from a great campaign at domestic level
however it seems that luck did not travel with them
as at the end of the first day they found themselves in the worst-case scenario
Balloon gate-picks placed them 37th for the Qualifying Races
Wright was the first to get into action for the MXGP qualifying race and was involved in a multiple crash in the first corner
resulting in a DNF due to the damage his bike received
Next was Ryder McNabb who after two crashes finished 24th
but his efforts were insufficient to put Team Canada in the final
The first team for the 2024 Motocross of Nations
which will take place at Matterley Basin on the 5th and 6th of October has been announced
South Africa already decided on its three-rider lineup for the MXoN
Triumph´s Camden McLellan will take the spot in the MX2 class
McLellan already has a podium in the MX2 World Championship
which is a big boost of confidence for him
Tristan Pourdon has been selected to race in the Open class
Pourdon sits 7th in the ACU British Championship standings and he has been racing selected AMA Pro Motocross rounds lately
They best result so far is a 5th overall at the Motocross of Nations of St.Jean D´Angely in 2000
The 2023 Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations delivered a breathtaking spectacle with the largest weekend attendance in its history
as hundreds of thousands of fans converged upon the historic Ernée track in France
The atmosphere was nothing short of electric
as fans united to celebrate their shared love for motocross
expressing their passion with deafening cheers that sent chills through everyone present
The collective rendition of ‘La Marseillaise,’ the French national anthem
by the enthusiastic crowd before the first race
was a moment of unity and pride that resonated deeply with everyone
created an unforgettable experience that will undoubtedly be etched in motocross history
After a five-year hiatus from winning the Peter Chamberlain’s Trophy
ascended to the top step of the podium on home soil in Ernée at the 2023 Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations
The trio had already displayed impressive performance the day before in qualifying
with Tom Vialle winning the MX2 category and Maxime Renaux dominating in the Open class
Romain Febvre’s fifth-place finish in MXGP contributed to their overall success
who had won the 2018 competition in Redbud
couldn’t have been prouder of his riders
Sharing the podium with the victorious French team was Team Australia
Team France needed a stellar performance in front of their home fans after their first-place finish in the Qualifying Races
aware of the expectations following Tom Vialle and Maxime Renaux’s victories the previous day
pleased the home crowd by starting strongly behind Spaniard Jorge Prado
challenging the reigning World Champion for the lead
Jeremy Seewer of Team Switzerland held onto third place until Lap eight when Germany’s Ken Roczen launched an attack
the battle at the front stole the spotlight
Prado managed to regain the lead from Febvre with a decisive move
The Spaniard thought he had secured victory with three laps to go
Febvre engaged in a spirited side-by-side battle
the Frenchman crossed the finish line ahead of Prado in second and Ken Roczen in third
A noteworthy comeback of the day belonged to Australia’s Jett Lawrence
displaying remarkable determination and skill
saw Australia in second place at that stage
Team Switzerland’s Valentin Guillod momentarily disrupted the status quo
securing the lead and the Holeshot while avoiding a pile-up that ensnared several riders
the experienced Swiss rider’s early lead was short-lived
as Team Spain’s Ruben Fernandez swiftly overtook him
Maxime Renaux of Team France capitalised on Guillod’s mishap to close in on Fernandez
kept pace with the Spaniard and made his move on Lap ten
but Renaux’s persistence paid off as he ultimately took the win
the battle for the final podium position raged between Team Belgium’s Liam Everts and Team Italy’s Andrea Adamo
the two young riders fiercely competed against each other
Although Adamo applied immense pressure on Everts in the final minutes of the race
Renaux eased off the throttle slightly towards the end
Adamo and Australia’s Hunter Lawrence completed the top five
with Lawrence surviving a minor crash when his handlebars dug into a dirt bank
Dean Ferris put in an impressive performance to secure twelfth place
maintaining Australia’s second-place position
while Team France stretched out a commanding lead
Ken Roczen crossed the Holeshot line ahead of everyone else
with Renaux closely following but ultimately finishing third
Tim Gajser of Team Slovenia fought to overtake Fernandez and managed to do so on Lap three
Gajser could not maintain his grip on fourth place and had to relinquish it under pressure from Prado
engaged in a battle with Febvre for eighth place
making an airborne move to pass the Italian on a straight section
with Forato regaining his position on a downhill
taking a shortcut and regaining the position
leaving Roczen struggling to regain his footing
Lawrence did not wait for his rivals and secured victory by seven seconds
Maxime Renaux’s fifth-place finish and Romain Febvre’s seventh-place finish sealed the home victory for Team France
Jett Lawrence’s victory and Dean Ferris’ fourteenth-place finish secured second place for Team Australia
“It’s an amazing weekend,” Renaux enthused
“I went first and third in the race so I helped the team to get the win but I also have two amazing teammates Romain (Febvre) and Tom (Vialle)
I really think it was the winning team today
I’m so happy that we could put it together because it’s never easy
even more as we were expected by the French crowd sop really happy that we could bring it home
I have never seen that many people around a track

The woman chosen for the reconstruction of her appearance died around the age of 35 and came from the upper social class of the Early Bronze Age
Her grave is the richest female grave of the so-called Unetice archaeological culture and one of the richest in Europe at the time
She was buried with a total of five bronze bracelets
a magnificent three-row amber necklace consisting of more than 400 beads and at least five so-called dividers
"This is an absolutely unique piece of jewellery
which is unparalleled among the finds from this period," says Michal Ernée from the Institute of Archaeology of the CAS
who is the winner of the Academic Prize and the head of the entire reconstruction project
"The radiocarbon dating carried out in the Mannheim laboratory dates the grave between 1880 and 1750 BC," adds the archaeologist
Based on real findings: without speculation and artistic licence
An accurate anthropological reconstruction was possible thanks to the well and almost completely preserved skull of the buried woman and also thanks to the analysis of the archaic DNA (aDNA - ancient DNA) extracted from the bones of the buried woman
“It's not just speculation nor artistic imagination
The analysis not only confirmed the gender of the buried woman but also gave us more information about the colour of her skin
This cannot be obtained in any other way than DNA analysis," emphasises Eva Vaníčková from the Laboratory of Anthropological Reconstruction of the Moravian Museum
"It is this precise and scientifically-based information that takes the whole reconstruction to a much higher level of quality and allows us to get a much more realistic idea of her appearance
closer to the original reality," explains the anthropologist
the method of anthropological reconstruction
significantly enriches the possibilities of presenting anthropological findings to the general and professional public
"We observe an increasing demand for "live"
three-dimensional and as realistic as possible outputs
I think that this allows the current generation growing up in the "digital environment" to perceive the results of archaeological research in a holistic and comprehensible way," believes Vaníčková
archaeologists from the Institute of Archaeology of the CAS
and the East Bohemian Museum in Pardubice examined several groups of skeletal graves from the Early Bronze Age
"It soon became clear that the local burial site is a real gold mine
not only because of the richness of the burial equipment of the local deceased but especially because of the great amount of completely unique information about this period," says Michal Ernée from the Institute of Archaeology of the CAS in Prague
One of the significant differences between the territory of today's Bohemia and all neighbouring regions is the mass occurrence of amber in the graves of local inhabitants
"Amber is clearly of foreign (Baltic) origin in our territory and it is
an important proof of the transregional contacts of the local inhabitants in the Early Bronze Age," adds the archaeologist
the burial site in Mikulovice clearly stands out for its richness
With almost 900 amber objects identified in 27 graves
Mikulovice is the richest site for amber in the entire Unetice world and one of the richest in Europe at the time
have been found in more than 40% of all female graves here
which is an extreme amount," adds Michal Ernée
Skeletal burial grounds are a "godsend" for archaeologists
such as settlements or bronze object depots
burial equipment of the deceased and other important objects
such as the skeleton of the woman from grave 2
whose appearance has now been recovered through anthropological reconstruction
are a very promising source of information for scientists
especially thanks to the dynamically developing fields of archaeogenetics
The centuries around and after 2000 BC are associated in a pan-European context with the beginnings of Bronze Age metallurgy and the development of long-distance trade and trans-regional contacts of all kinds
associated with the so-called Unetice archaeological culture
was one of the most advanced areas of Europe
alongside the areas of southern England and south-eastern Spain
and its inhabitants set the tone for the social
economic and political development of the whole of wider central Europe for several centuries
The authors of the jewellery replicas are restorer Ludmila Barčáková (amber necklace and gold earrings) from the Institute of Archaeology of the CAS
and metalworker Radek Lukůvka (bronze bracelets and pins)
while the author of the clothing accessories is archaeologist specialising in textiles Kristýna Urbanová

Stefan Everts won all three classes (125cc, MXGP and 650cc) at the final round of the Motocross World Championship in Ernee, France on Sunday, becoming the first rider ever to do so.
The Belgian is already the most successful rider of all time, with seven double wins already this season in the 125cc and MXGP classes. After taking the MX championship at the last round, Everts decided to be the first rider to attempt all three classes on the same day.
The opening event was the 125cc race. Despite not entering the first quarter of the 125cc championship, Everts ended the season in second place after recording his eighth victory in nine starts. The title went to Steve Ramon, who settled for a safe fifth place in the race. Joining Everts on the podium were Alessio Chiodi and Luigi Seguy, giving Yamaha the top three places, and helping them to win the 125cc manufacturer’s title.
The MXGP race saw Everts take the holeshot and maintain his lead to the flag, with closest rival Joel Smets crashing out. Second-place in the race went to Brian Jorgenson, with Josh Coppins third.
The final race of the day was the highlight for race fans. Joel Smets has only lost one race this year on the 650cc bike. Everts was tired after the earlier races and was riding a specially-created smaller machine. But then Smets crashed out landing from a jump and had to settle for third despite a frantic comeback through the pack.
The race became a battle between the Belgian and Spaniard Javier Garcia Vico, after Everts fell at slow speed and dropped to second place. It looked as if the day might end on a sour note, but Everts was simply resting and recovering before re-passing to take the lead and the chequered flag for this third win of the day.
” What a great day, but really, really tough. I knew this would be my last chance to attempt all three classes in one day, but even if that wasn’t the case I would never try it again it has been so physically demanding, ” said Everts. ” The 650cc race was the toughest of the day, but the whole day has been really exciting. ”
The three wins take Everts’ total number of GP victories to 72, which incidentally matches his race number. He’ll also be the last person to be able to take part in all three races, as from next year the season will switch to two races, with MX1 (Motocross GP) and MX2 (125cc two-strokes and 250cc four-strokes) replacing the three class format.

BURSASGXHomeBy PUTRAJAYA (Aug 9): The Immigration Department of Malaysia is expected to introduce e-visas for approved Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) applicants by end-2018 to ease the traffic at immigration centres and reduce the processing time
Arts and Culture Malaysia (Motac) head of department for the immigration unit of MM2H Ernee Shylla Mohtar
The current process of issuing a visa with reference (VDR) for the MM2H applicants has created inconvenience for both the authority and the applicants
Ernee told the audience of the 8th Malaysia My Second Home National Workshop today
the applicants have to go to the immigration counter in person to apply for the VDR and check the status of issuance
which has resulted long queues that is worsened by a lack of manpower to handle the big crowd
which stands for Electonice Visa Approval Letter
to allows MM2H participants to apply [their visa] online through the immigration system anytime and anywhere or appoint their MM2H agent to do so
The system will also ensure a smooth process as it will notify the applicant of any missing documents while the applicant can track the latest status online,” she said
“The introduction of EVAL is the best solution to cope with all the issues
It is going to be introduced by the end of this year but it is still subject to KDN’s (the Ministry of Home Affairs) instructions,” she noted
The e-visa will be adopting the same template as the eVISA for foreign students
Ernee was one of the panellists at the panel discussion entitled “Enhancing facilitation to ensure greater success of the MM2H Programme” at the workshop
the processing time for an MM2H visa can exceed three days as the application needs to circulate among a few authorities
the processing time is expected to be reduced by 70% as some of the steps will be processed simultaneously
such as the visa approval letter and issuance of e-visa
she told EdgeProp.my at the sidelines of the workshop
