The beauty of El Paso is sometimes more obvious to outsiders than it is to people here
The team of five professionals plus the best 14-year-old female horizontal jumper in the world
are late in their annual six-week camp in El Paso
This is the fourth time they've come over en masse to begin their outdoor season
There's is a connection to El Paso through former Miner national champion high jumper and French Olympian Mickael Hanany
But there are other ways for the city to sell itself
"We were looking for a nice training camp and El Paso is just the best place," said their coach Antony Yaich
This is the second year here for 400 hurdler Ismael Daffe
"It's difficult training because of the elevation (that's an asset in track)
People look at us strange because we're all speaking French
also gets to participate in both the UTEP Invitational and UTEP Springtime
The most compelling athlete from the Mentor Acadamy is 14-year-old Heather Arneton
who holds the age-group world record for 13- and 14-year-olds in the long jump and 13-year-olds in the triple jump
she set the 14-year-old world best this season with a mark of 43-feet
She won the event by two and a half feet and that mark would have put her on the edge of the top 10 in the NCAA list
it's the best on the world's U18 list - which includes women four years older than her - by six inches
Arneton also won the long jump at 20-10 3/4; her world record set this indoor season is 21-6 3/4

Yaich was reluctant initially to bring her to El Paso because of her age
but the team brought a home-school teacher with them
Yaich is also a former college instructor and the team is making a point to shield her from too much attention
She is off limits for interviews and at any rate is still learning English
we don't want to put too much pressure on her," Yaich said
there is only so much Arneton can do competition-wise
She's met the standard for the World Championships this summer
but those are off limits to athletes under 16
Her debut at the World Championship level will be in 2019
When asked if she was a potential Olympic champion
I think pretty quickly she's going to be over 7 meters (in the long jump
she probably won't be competing in the NCAA in four years
That means she could be back in a year as the Mentor Academy certainly likes it here
the coaches here (at UTEP) are great," Hanany said
It adds a little French flavor to the UTEP track

Wicklow athletes Niamh Murray and Eleanor Foot joined the Irish U18 team at the Franconville International Meet just outside Paris last weekend.
Bray Runners A.C athlete Niamh Murray was first to impress when she ran a blistering 55.67s in the 400m event to take the win at the French Meet.

denounced the "tyranny of minorities" and said and said he wants to be "the voice of the silent majority"
Speaking at a public meeting in Franconville
Mr Sarkozy said he would require immigrants to assimilate if he won the 2017 election
"We will no longer settle for integration that does not work
Mr Sarkozy also promised to lead a "merciless war" on Islamist terrorism
saying he would be the "president of action"
He added: "I will not accept the medieval behaviour that wants men to swim in swimsuits while the women are locked up."
The presidential hopeful previously said wearing a burkini is a "political act, it's militant, a provocation"
He said the country should not "imprison women behind fabric" and vowed to impose a nationwide ban if he is re-elected.
The politician is angling to gain votes from the far-right Front National (FN) for his Les Republicains party.
For months Mr Sarkozy lagged in opinion polls behind Alain Juppe, a more centrist former Prime Minister who is his main rival for the November primaries that will choose a conservative candidate for the election.
But his popularity has risen after the Isis-inspired attacks in Nice and Normandy.

The Meiers’ deeply serious design practice can feel stark or cold, but between its muted colors and themes of loneliness and longing there was an expressed emotional core to this collection that gave it warmth. “There’s a certain personal approach here. I try most of the things on, and I wear most of the pieces,” Luke said. It was a human touch partly communicated through an alien one, but as we know, even E.T. was dying to phone home.
