MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Ja Morant got in trouble again for aiming an imaginary gun to celebrate 3-pointers
so he has gone to a different make-believe violent way to mark a long-distance shot
The Memphis Grizzlies leading scorer, who was fined $75,000 recently for mimicking pointing a long gun after a basket from outside the arc, acted like he was pulling a pin and tossing a grenade in Thursday night's 141-125 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves
in some cases even covered his ears after the windmill-like hurl of the invisible explosive
"That's my celebration now until somebody else has a problem with it
and I'll find another one," Morant said after Thursday's shootaround
The league handed down the $75,000 fine on April 4 after Morant twice made what was considered an "inappropriate" imaginary gun-aiming gesture on the court
He was previously warned by the league office that this gesture could be interpreted in a negative light
The gestures that drew the fine were made by Morant during the Grizzlies' 110-108 victory over the Miami Heat on April 3, but it first drew the league's attention in an April 1 home game against the Golden State Warriors
That led to the investigation and the warning before Morant did it again against Miami
The fine was the culmination of several questionable incidents involving firearms
Morant was suspended for 25 games at the start of the 2023-24 season after he was seen on video waving a gun in a car
He previously was suspended eight games after he was seen with a gun in a Denver-area nightspot

"just for showing people what's pretty much been evident for the last two years."
Teammate Vince Williams Jr
wasn't really surprised by the change in celebration
Anything that benefits him saving his money
But the grenade celebration drew criticism from the TNT studio crew Thursday night
Kenny Smith noted that Morant "has a history that maybe he shouldn't be doing that."
Shaquille O'Neal added: "He knows what he's doing because y'all are going to keep talking about it."
he said the happiest person might be former Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins
fired March 28 because "he ain't got to deal with this immature stuff."

A Baltimore County man was charged with second-degree assault and a related weapons charge after he allegedly threw an airsoft grenade at a group of men in a Home Depot parking lot
threw an airsoft grenade out the window of a car toward a group of men waiting for work in the rear parking lot of a Home Depot in Southeast Baltimore
a light-colored sedan approached the group of men
and a victim reported seeing the driver of the vehicle throw an object toward the group
The Baltimore Banner thanks its sponsors. Become one.
The man told police there was no discussion or prior exchange between the driver of the vehicle and the group
The victim said the group heard a loud noise immediately after the object was thrown
and the vehicle “sped off quickly,” police said
police identified the vehicle as a 2016 Toyota Camry
The group checked themselves and parked cars for damage
and found pieces of “a green object” on the ground
went to the scene along Eastern Avenue and investigated for several hours
federal officials drove to the address the sedan was registered to in Sparrows Point and saw the vehicle parked outside
Baltimore Police Department officials interviewed the registered owner of the Camry
who said his son — Goetz — is the one who drives the car
Officials were able to connect Goetz to the crime using the Life360 location-tracking app on his and his father’s phones
police determined that Goetz’s cellphone traveled from the Sparrows Point residence to the Home Depot
Baltimore City Police and ATF officers executed a search warrant of the Camry and found a pull pin from an airsoft grenade that matched the type of weapon found at the Home Depot
Airsoft grenades are simulation weapons that generally use compressed gas or springs to explode
with some expelling pellets or plastic and foam fragments
Officials said they found two other airsoft grenades in a box on the floor of Goetz’s bedroom
“I know why you are here” and “They are just airsoft grenades” to investigators

(KOLN) - Authorities said a grenade found Monday morning in a south Lincoln neighborhood has been traced back to a burglary victim who unknowingly lost the device during a car break-in
Lincoln Police and Lincoln Fire & Rescue were called around 9:30 a.m

Morant continued to use the gesture Thursday
which received criticism from the "NBA on TNT" crew
saying Morant should "leave the celebrations where people might die alone." Barkley called the celebration "immature."
Morant did get support from Shaquille O'Neal
who told the Grizzlies star to "pull that pin." O'Neal then whistled and mimicked the sound of an explosion to simulate a grenade
That history may have played a role in Morant's fine
In the league's statement announcing the punishment
it said Morant's finger-gun taunt "could be interpreted in a negative light."
The grenade celebration could also fit into that category, but that's not going to stop Morant. Prior to Thursday's game, Morant said he was going to keep doing it
"That's my celebration now until somebody else has a problem with it
and I'll find another one," Morant said after Thursday's shootaround
Despite Morant's attempts to provoke the NBA
it's unclear whether the league will take action against him for the new celebration
it sounds like Morant is prepared to keep pushing the envelope until he's left alone or the league starts threatening harsher punishments

Leave it to former NBA player Gilbert Arenas to insert himself into the current situation with Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant
During his podcast, Arenas said Morant should mimic throwing a grenade during his on-court celebrations. In 2010, Arenas, while playing for the Washington Wizards
was suspended by the NBA after he brought a gun into an arena following an argument with teammate Javaris Crittenton
before covering his ears while running back down the court after hitting a 3-pointer
Morant's previous incidentsMorant has been suspended twice by the NBA for showing a gun on social media
Ja Morant seems committed to his new "grenade" celebration – for now – and Kenny Smith and Charles Barkley have some thoughts
that's the celebration fans can get used to seeing for the time being
"That's my celebration now until somebody else got a problem with it, and I'll find another one," Morant said at Thursday's shootaround
according to the Memphis Commercial Appeal
Morant used the celebration, where he mimics pulling the pin on a grenade, throwing it into the stands and then covering his ears, in Thursday night's 141-125 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves
Smith and Barkley reacted to Morant's new celebration on the "NBA on TNT" show
"He has a history that maybe he should leave the celebrations where people might die alone," Smith said
Said Barkley: "I know one person's happy right now

The Grizzlies fired Jenkins as head coach with less than a month remaining in the regular season
Asked Thursday about his reaction to the fines
paused and then said: "You really want to know

Morant mimed pulling out the grenade's pin
threw the grenade into the crowd and covered his ears during the mock explosion
Morant led all players in scoring during the win
The league then hit Morant with a $75,000 fine
the NBA said Morant was fined because the gun gesture "could be interpreted in a negative light." It's unclear whether Morant will face punishment for the grenade celebration
though it could fall into the same category if the league wants to send another message to the Grizzlies' star

He was also suspended eight games previously after he was seen toting a gun at a Denver nightclub
Morant was also at the center of a civil lawsuit in 2023

Police say a box containing possible military grenades and mortars was discovered amongst the donated items
Maine State Police later determined that the grenade was a spent training grenade and that the other items were fuses for artillery shells
Police do not believe there was any ill intent by the person who dropped off the box
The bomb squad was called in and secured the items
The store was temporarily closed but has since reopened
Morant was asked about the celebration by Grind City Media's Michael Wallace
who appeared on The Gary Parrish Show on Thursday
he's "just being Ja." Wallace said that Morant told him
"I made a decision with everything that has gone on
"when he described what the new sort of celebration is
and I know he understood that the other gesture landed him in hot water again and you know
this is what I'm going to do,' and these are in Ja's words
Wallace continued to relay Morant's explanation saying
and then I'm going to block out the noise
I'm saying what I got to say to the world
and I'm blocking out the noise in the midst of what's coming back my way
And that's how it's going to be.'"
Wallace then explained that he laughed at this explanation
After hearing that you would think he could have come up with a better backstory for the finger guns
And since the NBA didn't say anything about grenades or throwing out your words and immediately blocking out the noise
Morant continued with the celebration against the Minnesota Timberwolves on TNT on Thursday night

After the NBA fined Ja Morant $75,000 last week for making finger-gun gesture celebrations
the Memphis Grizzlies star has found a new way to commemorate a made 3-pointer
In the Grizzlies’ 141-125 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Thursday night
tossing a grenade and covering his ears following a made 3
It was the second straight game in which Morant had made the grenade gesture
having unveiled it Tuesday when Memphis played at Charlotte
and I’ll find another one,” Morant said after Thursday’s shootaround
The NBA fined Morant $75,000 on April 4
one day after the 25-year-old mimicked shooting a gun with his fingers after a made 3 — once in the first quarter and once in the third quarter — in the Grizzlies’ win over the Miami Heat
the NBA notified Morant he wouldn’t be punished for his April 1 gun-related gestures while playing the Golden State Warriors

Against Golden State, Morant and Buddy Hield engaged in a verbal altercation that included the gun-related hand gestures. Both players and teams received warnings from the NBA
and the league told each team the gestures were inappropriate and instructed them to stop using them
The argument from the teams’ side was that the gestures were not intended to be violent
Morant continued the gesture into the next game against Miami and received the fine one day later
was also suspended twice in recent seasons for gun-related incidents
the NBA issued an eight-game suspension after Morant was seen brandishing a gun on Instagram Live while at a gentlemen’s club in Glendale
He also missed the first 25 games of the 2023-24 season due to suspension after he was seen holding a handgun while riding in a car on Instagram Live
The NBA caps the fines for on-court conduct at $100,000

NORTHAMPTON — A grenade found by contractors in an attic crawl space at a residence at 12 Lawn Ave
was safely removed by the State Police bomb squad early Wednesday afternoon
turned out to be a non-explosive tear gas device
the grenade “looks old,” adding that it had more than likely been in the house “for some time.”
the house was a recent purchase by the owners
who were not in it at the time the device was found
First responders were on the scene shortly after the contractors placed a call at approximately 1 p.m
Fire and police personnel waited outside the house for the bomb squad
which arrived on the scene less than an hour later
It took members of the bomb squad no more than five minutes to safely retrieve the device
as Murrett said the device did not pose a serious hazard
although a neighbor was informed of the grenade and left the scene shortly after the arrival of emergency personnel

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Construction workers uncovered an old
"inert" hand grenade in the Terminal 1 construction area of the San Diego International Airport on Thursday
according to a Port of San Diego spokesperson
The incident did not impact the airport's operations since the ordnance did not have the capability to explode
Harbor PD's K9s and the Metro Arson Strike Team responded
"MAST took possession of the device without incident and the area has been cleared," the Port's spokesperson told ABC 10News around 1:30 p.m
The spokesperson says traffic to Terminal 1 was reduced to one lane for a short period of time as the K9s and MAST evaluated the situation.
