(Volodymyr Zelensky/Twitter)President Volodymyr Zelensky warned on April 29 that Russia is preparing potential military aggression under the guise of joint exercises with Belarus this summer

Belarus will host the Zapad 2025 (West 2025) military exercises with Russian forces

criticized the Trump administration’s campaign against Harvard
have signed a letter accusing the Trump administration of using antisemitism as a “guise” to attack universities
The letter from the five Democrats comes as the Trump administration has threatened universities with billions of dollars in funding cuts
ostensibly over their handling of campus antisemitism
and has arrested a series of pro-Palestinian student activists and revoked student visas
The letter was addressed to Trump and signed by Schumer
“We are extremely troubled and disturbed by your broad and extra-legal attacks against universities and higher education institutions as well as members of their communities
which seem to go far beyond combating antisemitism
using what is a real crisis as a pretext to attack people and institutions who do not agree with you,” wrote the senators
The senators join a growing movement of opposition from Jewish groups decrying the administration’s campus crackdown and saying it will not make Jews safer. Over half of American Jews disapprove of how Trump is handling antisemitism
Much of the letter focused on the administration’s campaign against Harvard, which has seen a $2.2 billion federal funding freeze and threats to its tax-exempt status
announced earlier this month the school would not bend to the policy changes the administration is demanding in order to reinstate funding
“These attacks go far beyond constructive and necessary efforts to support Jewish students on campus during an unprecedented period of domestic antisemitism,” wrote the senators
“They instead seem to be aimed at broadly changing the way the university functions
exacting huge penalties in ways wholly unrelated to combating antisemitism
are instead aimed at undermining or even destroying these vital institutions
while hiding behind claims of tackling antisemitism as a guise.”
The letter posed a list of questions to the Trump administration seeking clarity on the administration’s attacks on Harvard. The letter also questioned the visa revocations and detainments of pro-Palestinian student protesters. More than 1,200 international students have seen their visas revoked since late March, according to the Associated Press
The senators also sought answers regarding the administration’s cuts to the Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights
which handles investigations into antisemitism in schools

has told Parliament to act in defense of any action that threatens Ghana’s democracy
He described the suspension of the Chief Justice and the petitions against her as an attempt to undermine Ghana’s democracy
“We cannot allow institutions of state to be undermined under the guise of accountability
Parliament must act as the last line of defence for our democracy,” he said after reading the coalition of political parties to present a petition against the suspension of the Chief Justice to Parliament in Accra on Monday
The coalition subsequently presented another petition on the same subject matter to the presidency
Afenyo-Markin said at the forecourt of the Jubilee House that “The judiciary is our last hope
and we believe that what is happening undermines our democracy
For the Chief Justice to be singled out for this unfortunate attack
“The Council of State has failed the government
and we want you as an institution to put aside your individual differences and know that it is your institution that is under attack
You don’t serve at the whims and caprices of a political party and a government,” he said after leading the coalition of political parties to demonstrate and present a petition to the president against the suspension of the Chief Justice
who received the petition from the protesters
told the coalition of political parties that the process to handle the matter is constitutional
He said no violation of the law has happened in the process
Speaking after receiving the petition from the protesters led by the Minority Leader
at the forecourt of the Jubilee House in Accra on Monday
he said “We are happy that your process started this morning and ended very peacefully
That in itself is a very strong message about the democracy that President Mahama wants to instil
I am sure that the retaliatory politics that we talk about wouldn’t have been the case
Your referencing retaliatory politics is an admission that the 8 years of President Akufo-Addo were not the best
is not one of those politicians; he doesn’t believe in retaliatory Politics
He is described as too much father for all persons
Whatever decisions that are being taken now are in line with our 1992 Constitution.”
“The process that is ongoing is constitutional,” he added
the suspension of the Chief Justice and the petitions against her are politically motivated and constitute an attack on judicial independence
stated in a post on his X page: “Save the judiciary from President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC’s attacks
“It is about the survival of the rule of law and our fundamental freedoms
including freedom of the press and other media
The media must recognize that its survival is linked to this cause.”
President John Mahama received flak for the suspension of the Chief Justice from the Ghana Bar Association (GBA)
The GBA described the action of the President as unconstitutional due to the absence of legal backing for the exercise of presidential discretion
The GBA had said that any discretionary powers exercised under Article 296 of the 1992 Constitution must be regulated by law to prevent abuse and ensure transparency
“Subject to exercise discretion under article 296
they ought to have been made regulations like a constitutional instrument before exercising such discretion because the essence is to govern
how it is exercised so that it doesn’t get abused,” the Public Relations Officer of the GBA
were unanimous in their view that the President had acted outside the bounds of the Constitution
the membership at the meeting on Saturday were of the view that the President had not done well because he had acted unconstitutionally because no constitutional instrument had been passed before he exercised the discretion,” Kudze stated
This strong stance follows an official GBA statement dated April 26
in which the Association called for the immediate reversal of the Chief Justice’s suspension

A coalition of Jewish groups warns that the Trump administration is making Jews less safe by targeting international students who protested Israel's war in Gaza and the universities where they study
In a statement released Tuesday
the coalition of 10 groups brought together by the nonpartisan Jewish Council for Public Affairs states that antisemitism is on the rise in the "public discourse
and institution," but that it opposes the Trump administration's push to strip pro-Palestinian student activists of their visas and deny them due process
"Our safety as Jews has always been tied to the rule of law
and to the protection of rights and liberties for all," reads the statement
conservative and reconstructionist organizations
as a non-profit immigrant aid group founded by Jewish Americans
President Trump signed an executive order in January aimed at cracking down on "the explosion of antisemitism" in the U.S
It outlined steps the administration would take to cancel the visas of students who protested the war in Gaza
CEO of the Jewish Council for Public Affairs
told Morning Edition that she and her group are concerned that fear of antisemitism is being exploited to "undermine our democracy."
She added: "What's clear as these actions continue and grow is that the overwhelming majority of American Jews are feeling many of those same concerns and speaking out."
This interview has been lightly edited for length and clarity
Michel Martin: So in issuing this statement
the coalition said it wanted to reject the "false choice between confronting antisemitism and upholding democracy." And the statement goes on to say that "We reject any policies or actions that foment or take advantage of antisemitism and pit communities against one another
And we unequivocally condemn the exploitation of our communities
real concerns about antisemitism to undermine democratic norms and rights
press and peaceful protest." Was there a red line that members of your coalition felt had been crossed
Spitalnick: Multiple things are true at the same time
but this entire conversation over the last few months has been set up as this false choice
We know that antisemitism is real and it's rising
And our organizations in this coalition have been speaking out clearly against the alarming rise in antisemitism since Oct
we've seen this escalating use of our legitimate concerns about antisemitism to undermine democratic norms and rights
and to otherwise go after the core values of our democracy that have been so inherent to Jewish safety and the rights and safety of all
Martin: The Trump administration says these student activists are a threat to national security
Spitalnick: We can look at some of the specific cases and understand why that broad brush to paint these students with is frankly not exactly aligned with reality
weeks since that student has been arrested
the only thing that the government has pointed to as to why she was arrested and detained is an op-ed in the student paper
And so we've seen hundreds of visa revocations and arrests over the last few months
They all involve different students in different scenarios
but it's very clear based on some of these higher profile cases
that fundamental rights of due process and civil liberties have not been applied
And when we start selectively applying rights based on someone's views or identity
that's a slippery slope that makes us all unsafe
Note: Federal immigration officers arrested Tufts University student Rumeysa Ozturk in March
on a student visa and had co-authored an opinion article criticizing the university's response to the war in Gaza
Martin: There are other Jewish groups like the Zionist Organization of America that are applauding this decision to deport these students
They say that this does enhance the safety of Jewish students and faculty and people at these institutions
Is it your view that these folks just have it wrong or that they just don't represent kind of the mainstream of thinking in the community
Spitalnick: Our coalition represents the overwhelming majority of American Jews
It includes the conservative reform reconstructionist movements and a variety of other organizations that are representative of mainstream American Jewry
I've been spending the last few months on the road with the Jews across the country
and the overwhelming majority have deep seated concerns about what's happening
both because we know antisemitism is real and it needs to be addressed constructively and productively
and because these real concerns should not be exploited to undermine the core democratic norms and values that have kept us safe

chips and special alloys soon to be imported via Russia and Southeast Asia will presumably all be used to enhance the performance of North Korea’s nuclear weapons and missiles
North Korea is importing parts and materials that are ostensibly for civilian manufacturing and research but are actually intended for the development of nuclear weapons and missiles
“Trading companies with overseas operations received orders from the Party’s Munitions Industry Department on Feb
12 to actively cooperate with importing samples of precision parts and special alloys to further the development of missile guidance and control systems
warheads and engines,” a source in North Korea told Daily NK recently
these orders were delivered on the same day to North Korean companies with branches overseas such as the Myongan Trading Company and the Tongmyong Technology Trade Company
These two companies — which operate in Russia and Laos
respectively — are believed to run foreign currency-earning operations staffed by North Korean IT professionals
with the proceeds going toward nuclear weapon and missile development
The Munitions Industry Department of the Workers’ Party of Korea plans to label precision machine parts and chips imported from Russia and Southeast Asia as being used for manufacturing routine electronic equipment
those parts will be used to develop missile guidance and control systems
“A key task for the armament sector in the first half of the year is to enhance the precision of missile guidance and control mechanisms
The parts being imported will play a key role in making missile targeting more accurate,” the source said
The high-performance semiconductors and microcontrollers that North Korea is importing under false pretenses are needed to develop guidance and control mechanisms for ballistic missiles
the special alloys and heat-resistant carbon fiber that are supposedly being imported for research purposes are intended to strengthen missile warheads and improve the performance of missile propellant
Related organizations have already set about acquiring the materials that the Munitions Industry Department has designated as key import items for the first half of the year
The North Korean authorities are seeking to circumvent sanctions on North Korea by importing parts and materials nominally designated for civilian industrial and research purposes but actually intended for use in developing nuclear weapons and missiles
But North Korea maintains the legality of these activities
“The Munitions Industry Department insisted that North Korea is ‘just conducting legal trade as other countries do’ and that ‘it goes without saying that trading companies need to support these imports,’” the source said
After North Korea carried out its first nuclear test in October 2006
the United Nations Security Council imposed sanctions on the North in the form of Resolution 1718
The sanctions resolution prohibited anything related to nuclear weapons or missiles from being exported to the North
But North Korea has managed to continue developing nuclear weapons and missiles by importing key components and materials
while concealing their true purpose behind a façade of civilian manufacturing and research
chips and special alloys that will soon be imported via Russia and Southeast Asia will presumably all be used to enhance the performance of North Korea’s nuclear weapons and missiles
There are concerns that these efforts pose a serious threat to international security
“Officials feel confident they can perfect the missiles as long as they have enough precision parts
The Munitions Industry Department will probably accelerate imports of these materials according to plan,” the source said

Trump’s retribution campaign is now targeting prominent Democratic lawyers — with broad implications for every American
by Nicole Narea

and the New Republic.President Donald Trump is going after a pair of major law firms — and attacking the First Amendment in the process
Trump issued an executive order on Thursday that took aim at Perkins Coie, a law firm that represented Hillary Clinton when she ran against Trump in 2016. Notably, Perkins Coie hired a research firm that produced the infamous “Steele dossier,” which alleged the president colluded with Russia to steal the election
Trump’s order aims to strip the firm’s attorneys of their security clearances and asks the government to review all contracts with the firm with the intention of terminating any they can
Trump issued a similar memorandum last month
going after some attorneys at the law firm of Covington & Burling
The firm is home to former special counsel Jack Smith
who led the prosecution of Trump in cases related to the January 6
insurrection at the US Capitol and the president’s alleged mishandling of classified documents
(Both cases were dismissed after Trump won the 2024 election.) The memorandum aims to strip security clearances from Peter Koski
and any other individuals who helped Smith while he served as special counsel
Canceled contracts promise to cost the firms revenue while stripping security clearances hurts them by putting certain areas of federal business off-limits
But the issue is far bigger than harm to a pair of well-off law firms
Legal experts say that Trump’s executive actions challenge the First Amendment right to free expression — and aim to send a signal to would-be opponents from well beyond just the legal profession
(The White House did not respond to a request for comment.)
“No one is going to cry for a big law firm,” said Katie Fallow
deputy director of the Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University
“But the idea of the government punishing a private entity based on the political positions it’s taken
is terrible from a free speech and association standpoint.”
Thursday’s executive order accuses Perkins Coie of trying to “judicially overturn popular
including those requiring voter identification,” as well as discriminating against applicants and staff by promoting diversity
In addition to demanding that firm attorneys be stripped of their security clearances on that basis
it also orders government contractors to end their business relationships with the firm to the extent permitted by law and blocks the government from hiring firm employees
The earlier memorandum concerning Covington & Burling similarly accused anyone at the firm who assisted Smith of “weaponization of the judicial process,” ordering the termination of their security clearances and government contracts with the firm
Trump’s executive actions are not normal: Under President George W. Bush, a senior Pentagon official encouraged clients to cut their ties with law firms representing prisoners held at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba. But a month after his remarks, the official resigned and publicly apologized
asserting that he believed “that a foundational principle of our legal system is that the system works best when both sides are represented by competent legal counsel.”
of any incident in which a sitting president had done something similar via executive action
Even for Trump, who has already sought retribution against his perceived enemies in the media and in the federal government, “this is just jaw-dropping,” said Laurence Tribe, a constitutional scholar at Harvard Law School. “This represents sort of a great escalation of a trend that was already evident.”
Legal scholars say that Trump’s targeting of law firms likely violates the First Amendment and other constitutional protections.
The executive order seems to be taking aim at specific positions that Perkins Coie has taken on behalf of its clients, its views about employee management policies (including DEI programs), and its association with Democrats.
That language “absolutely suggests viewpoint discrimination,” which is prohibited by the First Amendment, said Catherine Ross, a professor at George Washington University Law School. Fallows and Tribe said they agreed.
Beyond that, Tribe also raised a concern that the executive order could violate the Sixth Amendment right to the effective assistance of counsel. That right, he said, is “gravely endangered if the executive branch can brand and ostracize a particular group of lawyers and strip them of the security clearances, without which they could not represent a number of the people that the administration either has gone after or has indicated an intention to go after.”
It’s not entirely clear, however, that the orders will be struck down in court, the analysts say.
Judges have historically deferred to the president on matters of national security, and that might provide some legal cover to Trump if the issue reaches the Supreme Court, Tribe said. But Ross also pointed out that Thursday’s executive order lacks specific details on any potential national security concerns. Instead, she said, it “appears to be aimed at preventing the firm from acquiring or maintaining clients.”
Trump’s attacks on the First Amendment should worry Trump’s perceived political opponents no matter what field they are in.
“This is the way dictatorships get going,” Tribe said. “People get afraid to say their piece — if they are lawyers, to represent a client who might be in the crosshairs of those in power. When that kind of fear casts a chill across the land, the ability of ordinary people to live their lives as they see fit gets undermined.”

and Special Rapporteur Ben Saul (on the screen) speak on counter-terrorism abuse in the MENA during an event at the UN human rights council in Geneva on 10 March 2025
during the 58th session of the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council (HRC) in Geneva
MENA Rights Group and Saferworld co-organised a side event highlighting the abuse of security and counter-terrorism measures in the MENA as well as their impact on human rights.
The Special Rapporteur also highlighted Israel’s ongoing violations of international law in numerous MENA countries
and called for the immediate end to Israel’s illegal occupation.
Ghofrane Binous spoke about the human rights impact of counter-terrorism legislation and measures in Tunisia
and the increasingly shrinking civic space in the country
She explained that the Tunisian counter-terrorism law is notably used to repress NGOs denouncing racial discrimination and abuse against migrants from Sub-Saharan Africa
including through accusations of money laundering
She also deplored the introduction in this context of a bill on NGOs
which risks further restricting freedom of association
is the ongoing collective case against 40 political opposition figures and human rights defenders
who are facing bogus 'conspiracy' charges that carry the death penalty in Tunisia
She concluded with an open call to defend Tunisian civil society
Tanya Boulakovski provided an overview of what transnational repression looks like in the region
including under the guise of “counterterrorism”
She explained the role of the AIMC in this phenomenon
detailing the practice of circulating state-requested arrest warrants to Arab League member states
leaving targeted individuals unable to challenge their warrants issued against them on discriminatory grounds
and at risk of extradition to countries where they would face torture
She pointed out that despite these human rights concerns
many international institutions continue to collaborate with the AIMC
and UN counter-terrorism bodies such as the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism
the Security Council’s Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate
Boulakovski concluded her remarks with an open warning
highlighting that in the absence of structural reform of the AIMC
Arab dissidents are not safe from transnational repression and must carefully reconsider traveling to Arab League countries
Fady Khoury shed light on Israel’s counter-terrorism framework and its impact on Palestinians
He notably explained how the Israeli framework creates a dual legal system for regulating speech offenses: one
that governs general speech offenses and that provides due process guarantees
mainly applied to Jewish citizens of Israel
disproportionately applied to Palestinians
He explained that Israel's broad categorisation of certain forms of speech as “apology for terrorism” has led to arrests over social media posts
the vast majority of which have targeted Palestinian citizens of Israel
He stated that these legal restrictions extended to peaceful demonstrations
as people were “arrested on their way to protests” for Gaza
He asserted that Palestinian citizens of Israel had no space for dissent or speech that countered Israel’s narrative around October 7th.
After opening the floor to a few questions from the audience
each panellist delivered some concluding remarks and shared recommendations to remedy some of the abuses committed in the name of the fight against terrorism described during the side event
These included that MENA countries like Tunisia should comply with the international human rights conventions they ratified
that regional bodies like the AIMC should align their practices with international human rights standards
and that the international community should exert pressure on Israel to implement a permanent ceasefire and ensure accountability for violations of international law

Jess Guise, the wife of Frank Turner and a fellow musician, has revealed via an Instagram post that the couple's marriage is over.
The singer revealed in a statement that the couple had agreed to make a statement prior to Turner's annual "Lost Evenings" weekend that typically draws a lot of his more hardcore fans so as to "save some difficult questions" that would likely come up
"Things have come to light about Frank's actions on his U.S
which give me no choice but to accept that our marriage is over
This has all been very sudden and unexpected and it has caused huge pain
but before any of this was a decade of love and joy; a quarter of our lives spent facing the world as a team
We're going to try to hold on to as much of that as we can."
"We are both in grief at what we’re losing here and whilst we talk about our personal worlds in our music
please understand - I know you will - that we don’t want to have conversations about this on social media right now
love and care for each other in whatever ways we can."
she’s not built for the tour bus," the singer concludes
She signed off the post with the salutation
The news coincides with what has been a string of public statements about personal relationships, which has captured the attention of fans and driven plenty of online conversations
Dave Grohl's infidelity and Alicia Taylor's condemnation of a fellow musician's inappropriate alleged advances toward Corey Taylor are recent examples of such instances
it is important not to speculate about unknown details and to respect the privacy of individuals
Though the revelation of their split is now public
the nature of Turner's "actions" remain unspecified
some of Turner's past relationships had factored into the lyrical content in his music
had appeared as an actress on the TV show EastEnders and the 2014 series The Musketeers
starting with The Fun Part EP back in 2020
Guise often joined Turner during his livestream performances
Turner also produced the first Guise album
He's been an active touring artist over the last few two decades and is set to stage his Lost Evenings 7 weekend of shows in Toronto Sept

innovative and locally emissions-free: With the Opel Rocks
young people from the age of 151 can enjoy independent
individual electromobility in a relaxed manner – and now even more stylishly than before
This is also shown by the first pictures: The Opel Vizor is now held in characteristic black
while the Opel Blitz on the front and rear shines in contrasting white
While the body below the window line will be light grey in the future
the black roof and the black wheels will remain an eye-catcher
This gives the new Opel Rocks a styling that reflects the brand's ‘Detox’ philosophy
cool and simple: this is the new Opel Rocks
on four wheels: Rocks ideal for electric entry
the Rocks retains its usual strengths in a fresh guise
This will benefit electric beginners from the age of 151 in particular
Rocks drivers merely require a class AM driving license
e-scooters and other motorised two-wheelers
the light motor vehicle protects the occupants from wind and weather and thanks to the tubular space frame and deformation zones as well as a windscreen made of laminated glass
the Rocks offers locally emissions-free urban mobility
The smallest Opel offers an electric range of up to 75 kilometres
which can be covered at speeds of up to 45 km/h
The Rocks can then be charged via any normal household socket
The corresponding charging cable is integrated behind the passenger door and can be easily pulled if necessary
drivers can steer the 2.41-meter-short and just 1.39-meter-wide (without exterior mirrors) Rocks through tight curves or access small parking spaces
the electric light motor vehicle is once again an unconventional eye-catcher – also because the two doors are identical in typical Rocks design
The passenger door swings forward as usual
while the driver's door swings backwards in the opposite direction
connected: Interior fully tailored to the young generation
the Rocks is also fully geared to the needs of the young generation
The design is highly functional and impresses with easy-to-grip controls and clear
easy-to-read displays that focus on the essentials
A smartphone holder with USB port and connectivity via DAT dongle positioned on the centre console ensures networking and offers access to the ‘myOpel’ app
Rocks drivers can connect their smartphone via Bluetooth via the separately attachable ‘MyRocks Switch’ on the steering wheel
occupants can listen to their favourite music
use their favourite navigation system and make phone calls without taking their eyes off the road
The Rocks steering wheel also shines in a new design: With a white Opel Blitz on a black background
it now perfectly reflects the Opel Vizor and thus brings the characteristic design feature into the interior
pleasant atmosphere – unusual for a vehicle of this class – is provided by the standard panoramic roof
the Rocks’ modern LED headlights ensure better visibility in rain or darkness
Further information on the focused Edition and GS trims as well as the attractive prices and leasing conditions will follow shortly

with no more than two seats and a maximum speed not exceeding 45 km/h
love and care for each other in whatever ways we can”
Frank Turner’s wife Jessica Guise has revealed that their “marriage is over”, attributing the musician’s “actions on his US tour” as the main reason.
Guise took to her official Instagram account to share a photo of her and Turner sitting on a sofa in a loving embrace. The caption of the post began with Guise explaining that she had been putting off writing the explanation as she “didn’t want any of it to be true, but we’ve agreed that saying something before Lost Evenings might save some difficult questions.”
“Things have come to light about Frank’s actions on his US tour in June and since, which give me no choice but to accept that our marriage is over. This has all been very sudden and unexpected, and it has caused huge pain, but before any of this was a decade of love and joy; a quarter of our lives spent facing the world as a team, as best friends. We’re going to try to hold on to as much of that as we can,” she wrote.

Guise went on to share that they are “both in grief at what we’re losing here” and explained that while they are disscsing their “personal worlds in our music”
they do not want to “have conversations about this on social media right now”
She ended the caption with: “There’ll be songs

A Kind Of Guise Every fashion aficionado knows that certain times of the year are worth the wait
our inboxes fill with early-access emails from favorite brands
I have a unique sense of anticipation for A Kind Of Guise (AKOG)
The iykyk of German brands has separated itself in the fashion world by delivering collections in 3 different "drops" that are thoughtful
The Autumn/Winter 2024 collection named "Soroche," is no exception
infusing the essence of the Peruvian landscape into each garment and aesthetic
A Kind Of Guise has a well-earned reputation for drawing inspiration from diverse global locations
but not in the shallow and ephemeral way of locations turning into a branding opportunity with which many brands approach such projects
and natural beauty in ways that feel authentic
A Kind Of Guise captures the true essence of these places
Your Highsnobiety privacy settings have blocked this Instagram post.Enable All MediaManage consentPrivacy policyEach collection and lookbook feels like an invitation to embark on a journey
with A Kind Of Guise serving as a guide that explores the deeper connections between fashion
This is important because it reminds us of the interconnections between fashion
fabrics and the variety of cultures that surround us
It reminds us to pay attention to the cultures
to the people and to the colors as a way to be inspired to create and wear clothes that feel authentic
The "Soroche" collection is inspired by the breathtaking heights of the Peruvian Andes
an area rich in cultural heritage and natural splendor
derived from the Spanish term for altitude sickness
hints at the transformative experience the brand aims to deliver—a sense of awe and wonder
akin to standing on the precipice of a towering mountain range
Your Highsnobiety privacy settings have blocked this Instagram post.Enable All MediaManage consentPrivacy policyAmong my favorite pieces in the "Soroche" collection is the Iquitos Knit Jacket
a perfect example of how AKOG blends tradition with contemporary style
This jacket is a fusion of Peruvian and Bavarian knitting traditions
Another personal favorite is the Cyrus Coat
featuring a classic A-line silhouette with raglan sleeves
The coat is crafted from a blend of Italian wool
making it a cozy yet stylish choice for the colder months
It’s crafted from a Steiff alpaca blend fur
tactile quality that’s both comforting and chic
Your Highsnobiety privacy settings have blocked this Instagram post.Enable All MediaManage consentPrivacy policyThe collection also pays tribute to Peru’s rich cultural heritage with the Morochuco Shirt
Named after the legendary horsemen of the Peruvian Andes (a story worth its own article)
The intricate marigold embroidery on the shirt is a nod to the flower's symbolism in Peruvian tradition
With their Autumn Winter 24 "Soroche" collection, the brand once again proves that fashion can be a narrative, a journey, and a celebration of the world’s rich tapestry of cultures and merge it with elegant fashion craftsmanship.
So while we wait for the third drop of the collection, a little trip to the Peruvian Andes this winter anyone?
Legislation that would resurrect a scheme to allow unions to target the federally subsidized paychecks of people who care for their disabled loved ones at home may pass the Michigan House this week
The Mackinac Center for Public Policy called the original scheme
The Service Employees International Union took $34 million from home health care helpers before the Legislature ended the practice. In 2012, voters rejected Proposition 4 in a 57-43% vote
The proposal asked voters if they wanted to provide collective bargaining to in-home care workers
Sen. Kevin Hertel, D-St. Clair Shores, introduced Senate Bill 790 on March 14 to bring back the dues skim
home care helpers could once again see smaller paychecks from Medicaid and the state of Michigan
many caregivers were unaware that a union was taking funds from their paychecks
Reinstating the arrangement would yield similar results
though the legal environment care givers would face has improved since the old scheme ended
AFSCME that government employees who are represented by a collective bargaining agreement can’t be forced to pay union dues or agency fees
The ruling would protect home helpers who know their Janus rights
SB 790 would require home health care workers to attend a half-hour presentation by the SEIU
In a video recently produced by the Mackinac Center
a mother who cares for her 24-year-old disabled son on a full-time basis said that many people would be caught unaware by the change
families like ours don’t have time to hunt through fine print on things,” Tammy Martin said
Family members who care for their loved ones are often pressed for time
and they may not know where to find the information needed to keep them from being forced into a union
“I look at my son as one of the most vulnerable members of our population
Once a home health care worker starts paying the union
vice president of legal affairs at the Mackinac Center
providers have a constitutional right not to provide any financial support to the unit
but these bills will make them sit through a 30-minute high-pressure sales presentation – like a timeshare pitch for unionization,” said Wright
Wright said that contrary to claims made by the bill’s advocates
home health care helpers who want a pay increase do not need a union
State funding for providers increased 85% after the last dues skim ended
Hertel did not respond to an email seeking comment
The Senate approved SB 790 on a party-line vote of 20-18
CapCon will publish updates on this legislation as developments occur. Anyone who cares for a disabled individual and feels pressured into joining the union may contact the Mackinac Center for assistance

Trends come and go at a dizzying pace, but for A Kind of Guise (AKOG)
the Munich-based label produces garments that are meant to be passed down the generations like a family heirloom
Each collection is like a love letter dedicated to a specific city or region
tapping master artisans who weave local traditions into modern silhouettes
AKOG has released a surprise holiday drop of clothing and accessories
the capsule is meant to transport you through a “nostalgic journey,” says the brand
“Whether it’s the bittersweet experience of a first love
or long dinner nights with family and friends
these experiences defined our summers.”
Try a different filter or a new search keyword
“I think people just get hung up on style,” he continues
“They don’t really hear the musical ideas or concepts behind what the musician’s trying to do
and you can translate these ideas throughout different styles or different settings.” Listening to Guthrie’s albums
you’ll hear a plethora of connections: Shared compositional
Guthrie attributes his wide-ranging interests to his musical education in Melbourne
“The good thing about Australia is that it’s very eclectic and most musicians are doing many different things
so the influences are coming from a lot of different places,” he explains
you might be on the same bill as a weirdo grindcore band or a minimal electronic group
I think that produces people who are a little bit less purist about things.”
Guthrie made a name for himself as a jazz drummer throughout the 1990s
His adaptability made him a sought-after percussionist for a variety of groups
which left little time to focus on his own music
“I was playing drums in a lot of different bands and a lot of jazz projects to earn my living
why I wanted to leave Australia was to stop doing that kind of stuff and to concentrate more on my own music,” he explains
Guthrie left Australia for France in 2003 and began to search for his own sound
he distanced himself from the drums altogether
“I felt that the baggage of coming from jazz and learning how to play the drums and being a ‘good drummer’ was detrimental to me finding my own music
and also rhythmic music for a while.” During the first decade of the 2000s
Guthrie instead played electroacoustic music with found objects
This period of experimentation was necessary for Guthrie to find his niche
he has become one of the most versatile yet recognizable percussionists working in left-field music
bringing all of his influences together into a thrillingly diverse discography
The selection below ranges from solo percussion to free jazz to hip-hop collage to gamelan ensemble
but each album carries Guthrie’s undeniable fingerprint
Stones & Breaking Bones was a really important album for me,” says Guthrie
“That one felt like getting back into really rhythmic playing after years of rejecting it.” After his move to France
Guthrie slowly incorporated more rhythmic percussion into his electronic experiments
He found that he could explore the same ideas about composition and texture with nothing but a traditional drum set
Returning to rhythm was particularly liberating for Guthrie during an era where it seemed to be forgotten: “No one in the improv or experimental scene was working with rhythm—not many drummers around me were
“The whole thing about ‘What is free improvisation?’ has always been a big question mark for me
How can it be free if you can’t play melody or you can’t play rhythm?” Sticks
Stones & Breaking Bones is the perfect introduction to Guthrie’s solo work
you can hear what he means in the 2014 live recording In Paris
whose looping structures are borrowed from more minimalist music even as it sounds like pure
The Ames Room ended “before its time,” Guthrie says
Guthrie and Guionnet wanted to keep collaborating without simply recreating their old group as a duo
This was a step back to the stuff I was doing earlier with amplification on a weird electroacoustic kind of junk kit,” he explains
but the jazz influence is still very much there.” On Electric Rag
Guthrie uses contact microphones to bring out elements of the drum kit that aren’t usually audible
but also holds them in his hands and even plays the drums with them
“We did keep that element of the Ames Room.” The result is the most abrasive and visceral of Guthrie’s oeuvre
at times verging on pure noise but never losing its groove
as artistically fulfilling as those may be
He has a million ideas: ‘Now we can do this
Rushford plays organ while Guthrie plays drums
but this couldn’t be further away from the rambunctious Electric Rag
But its ease belies its depth—repeated plays reveal ever more detail
Guthrie is currently preparing for a performance of People Pleaser at the famed GRM studios in Paris
he will debut a selection of tracks from the upcoming third installment of the series
A set of collages of his drumming combined with samples grabbed from his hard drive
it’s more indebted to hip-hop than experimental music or jazz
The project has become a favorite of many Guthrie fans
but it began almost on a whim while he was awaiting the birth of his first child and was limited to what he could find on his laptop
“If I wanted a certain sound for one of the pieces
I’ll just look on my hard drive and see what I’ve got anyway.’ It was about embracing the weirdness of that
where most stuff doesn’t work and doesn’t fit and finding a way to make it fit and work.” These circumstances lent a looseness to the music that felt right
he’s spent more time on each record but kept his initial ad hoc approach
It should be quite quick—decisions can be made quickly and things can get scrapped quickly as well.”
strategic innovation and communications strategy

Microsoft has faced a wave of backlash after a leaked termination letter revealed the company's new practice of swiftly cutting ties with staff deemed 'underperforming'
which has circulated widely on social media
has sparked debate over whether the technology giant is simply exercising its right to manage its workforce or engaging in insensitive cost-cutting measures at the expense of employee welfare
According to Business Insider's report
affected employees are told their work no longer meets 'minimum standards and expectations'
They immediately lose access to all company systems
and are instructed to return Microsoft property without delay
The letter also states that ex-employees are 'not to perform any further work on behalf of Microsoft' and warns that past performance will be reviewed if they ever reapply to the firm
employees were told that they would not receive severance pay
while healthcare benefits end immediately on the date of termination
we take the appropriate action,' a Microsoft spokesperson said
adding that the company prioritises 'high performance talent' while claiming to offer employees ample opportunity for professional development
the news has stirred strong reactions online
Commenters have accused Microsoft of blaming 'performance issues' to justify abrupt dismissals
particularly at a time when tech firms across the globe are reducing headcounts amid slower growth
a chief tech correspondent for Business Insider
so this is the new norm now?' wrote one commenter
who argued that publicly attributing redundancies to underperformance allows companies to distance themselves from any moral or financial responsibility towards the people they are letting go
Another user contended that such practices are reminiscent of employers' historical attempts to minimise costs linked to claims of unfair dismissal
Some critics suggest Microsoft might be emulating the approach taken by Elon Musk
who famously slashed roughly 80% of the workforce at X (formerly Twitter) through mass layoffs in 2023
demanding fair severance packages and criticising the manner in which cuts were handled
Musk's termination emails similarly stated that staff members would stop working immediately
lose system access and be placed on a 'Non-Working Notice' period until their official end date
Microsoft's move appears to be following a familiar pattern seen elsewhere in Silicon Valley
where underperforming teams are often the first targets when revenue growth slows
Microsoft's decision to axe employees for alleged underperformance emerges alongside more extensive staff reductions across the company. Per Business Insider
although spokespersons claim these broader cuts are unrelated to performance issues
The firm previously let go of 10,000 employees after pandemic-driven hiring outpaced business needs
managers have been required to meticulously evaluate workers up to level 80—one of Microsoft's highest positions—raising alarm among employees who fear the ongoing crackdown may continue
Controversial terminations are not new for Microsoft
the company faced criticism for firing its diversity
prompting doubts about its dedication to social causes
two staff members who organised a vigil for Palestinians killed in Gaza were dismissed over the phone
having opposed Microsoft's sale of technology to the Israeli government
the firm cited adherence to 'internal policy' but was condemned by human rights advocates who claimed Microsoft's actions contradicted its public statements on corporate responsibility
As tech giants grapple with economic headwinds and conduct widespread layoffs
questions loom about whether performance-based dismissals will become more common
While some argue that companies have every right to remove employees who fail to meet expectations
others believe this practice risks undermining morale and loyalty
especially when severance and healthcare protections appear lacking
Critics say that the immediate revocation of benefits betrays a harsh approach to cost management
one at odds with the employee-centric culture many Silicon Valley firms claim to champion

Shortly after the new generation of the Hyundai Palisade was launched in Korea
our spy photographers caught the upcoming XRT trim during cold weather testing
The model is expected to be part of the North American lineup for the 2026 model year
and is set to debut sometime over the course of 2025
Hyundai is currently offering XRT versions of the outgoing Palisade, as well as of the Ioniq 5, Tucson, Santa Cruz, and Santa Fe
A similar treatment will be applied to the new Palisade
adding rugged vibes to the brand’s largest SUV
More: 2026 Hyundai Palisade Drops V6 For Four-Cylinders And Hybrid Efficiency In Korea
The Palisade XRT prototype was fully covered in camouflage
but we can still see some of its trim-specific features
The most notable changes are the discreet plastic cladding around the wheel arches and the matching trim on the side skirts and rear bumper
We also expect a redesigned front bumper contributing to the adventurous stance
Besides adopting boxier and more upmarket looks
stretching to 5,060 mm (199.2 inches) long
The prototype rides on Continental Cross Contact all-terrain tires, although the black 18-inch wheels are most likely provisional parts. Another prototype that was spotted earlier this week in Korea camed fitted with what appears to be the final XRT-specific design for the alloys
These feature five double spokes and a bi-tone finish
Inside, the SUV will feature a different upholstery for the seats with XRT emblem on the headrests
The Korean prototype had two individual seats on the second row
although we can’t be sure if this will be the only available seating layout
Note that the Korean-spec Palisade is available in a nine-seater layout (3+3+3)
which won’t make it to the US market
As with its predecessor, the new Palisade XRT isn’t expected to bring any changes under the skin compared to the rest of the lineup. Note that the new generation rides on an upgraded version of the existing model’s unibody underpinnings
with a longer wheelbase of 2,970 mm (116.9 inches)
the Palisade will likely drop the 3.8-liter V6 option in favor of a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 277 hp (207 kW / 281 PS)
This is expected to be joined by a more efficient self-charging hybrid setup
with a combined output of 330 hp (246 kW / 334 PS)
More: 2026 Hyundai Staria Electric Minivan Has The VW ID. Buzz In Its Sights
The cold weather testing of the Palisade XRT was done in the company of a Kia Tasman pickup. However, unlike the SUV, the Korean brand’s first midsize truck is not destined for North America.
Our spy photographers told us that the models were testing with a film crew from Korea. This makes us believe that Hyundai might be working on a teaser for the new Palisade XRT. Hopefully, we’ll get to see the model in the flesh in the coming months.

The Tesla Model Y has received its first major update since the electric compact crossover's 2019 debut. The update was revealed earlier this month in China
and the only version currently available is a fully loaded Model Y Launch Series priced from $61,630
including the $1,390 destination charge and $250 nonrefundable order fee
Unique touches for the Launch Series include the model-specific tailgate badge
and “Launch Series” script on the center console
There's also a black interior with premium materials
an audio system with 15 speakers and a subwoofer
plus Tesla's Full Self-Driving (Supervised) and Acceleration Boost features fitted as standard
The powertrain for the Launch Series is the Model Y's Long Range All-Wheel Drive option
Tesla doesn't mention horsepower but has stated the vehicle can hit 60 mph in 4.1 seconds
and offers a range estimate of between 303 and 320 miles
The pre-facelifted Model Y Long Range All-Wheel Drive hits 60 in 4.8 seconds
and has an EPA range estimate of 311 miles
Buyers on a stricter budget can still order the pre-facelifted version
which starts at $46,630 for entry-level Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive guise
The updated Model Y is easily recognizable by its new front styling. There are now light bars at both ends, with the front design borrowing its look from Tesla's Cybercab robotaxi unveiled last year
The interior has also been refreshed with a new ambient lighting package
a 15.4-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system
and power-reclining rear seats that fold flat
Tesla said it has also retuned the suspension for a more comfortable ride and added acoustic glass to provide a quieter experience in the cabin
A new front camera mounted in the bumper also helps with parking
