2024 15:47 UTCDan Bradbury moved into the final automatic qualifying position for the European Ryder Cup team with a dramatic victory at the FedEx Open de France
The Englishman claimed his maiden win at last season's Joburg Open but entered the week on the outskirts of Paris just inside the top 100 on the Race to Dubai Rankings in Partnership with Rolex and potentially facing a battle to retain his playing privileges over the final two regular events on the 2024 Race to Dubai
And his victory at the 2018 Ryder Cup venue was not assured until the death
as he made a hat-trick of birdies from the 14th in a bogey-free 66 and then had to sit and wait after setting the target at 16 under

Over a dozen players had been in contention on the final day at Continental Europe's oldest national open and two of those
2018 Ryder Cup winner Thorbjørn Olesen and England's Sam Bairstow
came up the last in the final group knowing a birdie would put them in a play-off
and Bradbury was left to celebrate a victory that extends his DP World Tour season
“The goal this week was to make the cut so I didn’t have to go to Korea (needing to) keep my card
playing with Gunner (Wiebe) and Joe (Dean)
they were both two shots behind me and I was second and they were
stay in it – we all know the finish round here
Bradbury - who will be making his Ryder Cup debut should he qualify for Bethpage - felt the tide turned his way on the 15th when he luckily avoided the water off the tee and went on to make birdie
then just straight up pushed it – luckily it stayed on
and I hit a horrendous putt that went in!" he said
‘there’s definitely something going for me’.”
Bradbury's entry on 274.95 points was not the only movement in the top six
with Dane Niklas Nørgaard finishing in a tie for 18th in France to move to third on 351.5 points
Rasmus Højgaard remains on top of the qualification standings on 399.03 points ahead of Rory McIlroy (354.07)

Le Golf National has hosted other big events
All four of this year’s men’s majors are in the books, but three big medals are still up for grabs. Olympic golf is about to get started
The competition gets underway Thursday in the men’s division with a 60-player field from 32 countries vying for gold
silver and gold (the women’s competition
which features 60 players from 33 countries
The format is four rounds, or 72 holes, of stroke play, and the venue is the Albatros course at Le Golf National, outside of Paris. A longtime host of the DP World Tour’s Open de France (and the site of the 2018 Ryder Cup)
the Albatros is no stranger to the spotlight
But many fans might still find it unfamiliar
here are five things to know about the course

a once-flat expanse that was built up into a rolling layout with 45-feet of elevation change and a stadium-style configuration with room for some 30,000 spectators.
Sir Nick found it “tough but fair.”
when the course hosted its first Open de France
Nick Faldo followed up his opening-round 71 by calling the layout “tough but fair.” Earlier this week
“I think it’s going to be a really good test of golf for everyone,” said Kim
“You can’t really fake it around here.” The historical record bears that out
In its tenure as a host of the Open de France
the course has ranked among the toughest on the DP World Tour
A tight course that favors precision over power
the Albatros can be unkind to wayward drives and approaches
It grows especially unforgiving as the round progresses
with a punishing closing stretch that brings water into play on three of the last four holes
the course is part of a luxury hotel that is also home to the 18-hole Aigle course and the nine-hole L’Oiselet course
All of the courses are accessible to the public

accompanied by members of the Leadership Team
the Group opened the doors of its design center
in the heart of the Technocentre: presentation of the new products of its 4 brands Renault
with a focus on vehicles reflecting innovations that meet the growing need for low-carbon and efficient mobility
The Think Tank was held for the first time at a manufacturer's premises to address the main challenges of distribution and the transformation of the network essential to meet the new challenges of the automotive industry
said: "The automotive industry is facing an unprecedented transformation
we consider our network and our partners more than ever as a strategic asset for the Group and for the success of our brands
There is no substitute for being physically present with our customers
At the beginning of 2024 we reaffirmed our strong partnership with the network
true to our win-win approach and while the Renaulution strategy has demonstrated its full potential for our dealers
This event with Karidea was an opportunity to reaffirm our desire to fully engage with our partners to seize the opportunities opened up by the changes in the automotive value chain."
"A big thank you to Luca de Meo for opening the doors of his design center and especially for this great first consisting of exchanging with the 37 European groups brought together by Karidea around the major challenges of distribution
It was an exchange of unique density and richness
as shown by the unanimously enthusiastic reactions of the participating Groups at the end of the meeting
Understanding the areas of transformation in distribution
moving from major trends to very concrete subjects
identifying the challenges but also the opportunities for distributors in the medium term
the exercise proved to be totally exciting," Jean Triomphe
The "Renaulution" strategy has contributed to the strong growth in sales and profitability of our distribution network
Renault Group has put product back at the heart of its strategy by working on the complementarity of its four brands and by favouring a value-based commercial policy
The Group has launched more cars than the company has ever done in 125 years: 22 launches in 3 years
modern range is positioned at the heart of the European market
with more than one in two launches in the C segment or above
The Group's horizontal approach allows us to capitalize on the traditional strengths of a car manufacturer while seeking innovations to better meet the new needs of our customers with partners at the highest level in the field
In addition to the products to come in 2025
the Group presented future projects such as 100% electric commercial vehicles on an unprecedented basis
making it possible to better meet the needs of last-mile transport
an eco-designed family demo car – both embodying the challenge of decarbonization
Renault Group has a long tradition of exchange with its sales network
and regularly shares its vision on the evolution of its strategy

Rising consumer demand for instant mobility
Impact of digital technology & automakers rethinking their distribution
point-of-sale formats and distributor business models
The first edition of the Renault Frères Innovation Trophies took place last week
Held at the Guyancourt Technocentre (Yvelines) with Jean-Dominique Sénard
the event rewarded five major inventions made by Group employees such as the E-TECH hybrid technology
Renault Group currently holds 11,000 active patents and produces around 800 new patents every year worldwide
These patents form the company’s intellectual legacy
presided over by Jean-Dominique Sénard and Luca de Meo
respectively Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of Renault Group
celebrated Group employees who are innovative
"Innovation makes us dream; it is the banner that flies above industry
it has been the cornerstone of our Group’s development
It plays a crucial role in our Renaulution
It will make us stronger contenders on the market as we rise above our competitors
then innovation is the steam engine that drives the whole machine forward
When we imagine future mobility being idyllic
Renault Group has fostered a tradition of innovation since its creation 120 years ago
Renault Group strives to become a true Tech Company
leading the market of mobility products and services
Technological innovation and development are key to achieving that goal
Renault Group therefore wishes to further encourage
Thirteen strategic technological areas have been identified
Find out more about these themes through our five winning inventions.
Group employees voted for the Renault Frère Bronze
More than 3,000 employees voted on 10 innovations
thereby choosing the three winners:
The Renault Frères BRONZE Trophy was awarded to the ‘Ingenious automatic luggage compartment opening system’. A rather thrifty innovation that was developed by Renault Technologie Roumanie (RTR)
it consists of a metal rod – called a ‘finger’ – attached to each swan neck holding down the spring in a closed position and triggers the automatic opening of the boot hatch. It replaces the traditionally used balancing mechanism.
The Renault Frères SILVER Trophy was awarded to ‘E-Nav: Optimized Energy Management for PHEV to maximize electric driving on city roads. E-Nav utilizes innovative algorithms to optimize the fuel economy of E-TECH Plug-In hybrid vehicles and guarantees all-electric driving in zero-emission urban areas thanks to the use of GPS guidance and map data
Customers save up to 10% on fuel economy and have the satisfaction polluting less as they drive around town.
The Renault Frères GOLD Trophy was awarded to the ‘Fireman Access’: fast access via a metal rupture disc so a high-pressure water jet can easily reach the lithium-ion battery. It is a safety system that makes it easier to ‘drown’ the battery on a plug-in or hybrid EV should a fire break out. A metal rupture disc keeps the battery permanently sealed and ensures it stays watertight as required for normal use
Should the battery catch fire due to thermal run away, the disc easily ruptures when directly sprayed by the firemen’s high-pressure hose making it possible to get water exactly where it is needed inside the battery.
"We have to deal with vehicles that are more complex
mobility ecosystems that are more intricate
We need innovative solutions more than ever
The ‘Renault Frères Most Promising’ special award recognises a promising technological solution that is recently patented but not yet equipped on our vehicles
This year’s winner is the driver assistance (ADAS) ‘Collision Avoidance’ that identifies the best manoeuvre to avoid a collision and mitigate the risk of injury
The vehicle’s ADAS sensors scan and analyse the car’s surrounds
then the car's automated guidance kicks in and ensures the safest path to avoid the obstacle
even at high speeds and on a low-grip road
There are six variations of the hybrid technology available on Clio, Captur, Arkana, Megane, and Megane Sedan. For 2021, European sales of E-TECH vehicles have already exceeded 70,000 units.
At the end of the 19th century, Louis Renault filed a patent for the direct drive gearbox. The technology was more efficient, less bulky, quieter, and above all, more efficient than the chain and belt transmission systems widely used back in the day. This innovation lies at the at the origin of the Renault Frères company. Hence the awards ceremony takes on the original name of the company in recognition of its origins and 120 years of innovation.

Always on the lookout for good deals, this time we're off to Guyancourt in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines to discover theAMD (Aide matérielle aux personnes en difficulté) charity store
Nestled in a courtyard just a stone's throw from the Pont du Routoir market square
between a tobacco shop and a fast-food restaurant
the association's boutique is supplied with unsold goods from major retailers such as Auchan Vélizy and Leclerc Bois d'Arcy
so the store also began to sellsecond-hand goods from donations
While the market prices of new products are systematically divided by 3
depending on the product and its condition
but also pillows and comforters at bargain prices
Kitchen utensils and pots and pans are also in demand
New and second-hand crockery is also a big hit
Clothing ranges from 50 cents to €2.50 for children
the association has opened a second 80m2 boutique
opposite and around the corner from the first
The team decided to open a temporary boutique to sell off its stock of large volumes that were not available at the braderie
new children's beds priced at €300 go for €100
Many of these items are brand-new and still in their original packaging
There are also older pieces of donated furniture with a certain cachet
the volunteer on duty told us that this Saturday
they would be emptying an old bourgeois home that had been completely donated
The boutique solidaire accepts all kinds of donations
with the exception of adult books for which there are no takers
Profits from sales are used to run the association and to purchase foodstuffs for the Versailles distribution center
which helps people in need when donations run short
Please note that the stores are only open 2 days a week (due to volunteer work)
on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 11am to 4pm

For a third consecutive year, Groupe Renault has organised the Twizy Contest. A year after entries were invited, the finale of this international competition was held on 4 October at the Guyancourt Technocentre. Read about the projects from student engineers and designers that made it onto the podium this time.
For these Romanian students, the urban mobility of tomorrow means hyper-handleability. Without doubt inspired by Renault’s For-Control technology, they grafted steerable front and back axles onto the Twizy so that it can go anywhere. The result? The two front wheels can turn either independently of the rear wheels, or in the same direction. The prototype can actually turn around on itself. Astounding! The Twizy can ease its way through the urban jungle and park on a sixpence.
Simple … once you see it! Why not combine the Twizy with two ultra-compact electric scooters? The Russian team designed two folding electric micro-scooters and two storage compartments, each with a power supply, fitted on either side of the Twizy. Once they get as close as they can to their destination, both occupants of the Twizy have their own ready-to-use scooter to complete the last leg of their journey. Simple and effective!
When it comes to selecting a venue for a Ryder Cup
the quality of the golf course is actually one of the least important factors in the overall selection criteria
logistical and economic factors weigh far more heavily on the minds of the organisers than the question of whether the golf course itself is worthy of hosting such a prestigious event
It is unlikely any golf course or host city could fulfil every single one of the Ryder Cup’s demanding selection criteria
but Le Golf National in Paris comes as close as any
Located close enough to Versailles to warrant its iconic European city status
this resort certainly scores heavily on infrastructure but it excels in the one category that golfers care about most – the quality of its flagship L’Albatros course
which has hosted the French Open almost every year since its 1991 opening
RELATED: The Best Golf Course in France
If your preconception of Le Golf National is that it is your typical elite
chic and stand-offish Parisian private members club
It is actually a bustling pay-and-play course
Although it is described as an inland links-type layout
don’t let the mildly inaccurate description deter you
the 18 holes could just as easily have been carved out of a gently undulating hunting estate or the rolling grounds of a majestic chateau
L’Albatros is a fantastic test of golf that challenges all of your technical and strategic abilities from the moment you step onto the first tee
Some golf courses like to ‘ease’ you into a round and give you the chance to loosen up and get your bearings before presenting you with its toughest questions
The course sets out its stall immediately with a semi-blind drive around or over a corner of dunes
club selection is as critical as shot shape
Will a well-struck fairway wood reach the water at the apex of the slight left-to-right dog-leg
Is a hybrid enough to comfortably fly the dunes
The hole design favours a controlled fade for a right-hander but will also punish a push or a slice with a likely lost ball in thick rough
Overcome that initial obstacle and you still face a mid to long-iron approach over a sizeable lake to a sharply undulating green
Next up is a long par 3 over the same stretch of water
followed by a reachable but danger-laden par 5
The opening three holes pretty much set the tone for the entire round
They are certainly not brutal in terms of length
but they are unrelenting in their pursuit of strategic and technical prowess
And then there’s the continual presence of water
Biting hungrily into the fairways and greens of no fewer than 10 holes
Huge spectator mounds create an unprecedented sense of theatre for each hole
the blue/green blur of the final four holes fuses the two elements together
The beauty of L’Albatros is the almost infinite number of ways it tests your game while remaining inviting and easy on the eye
marshes and streams guide you through hole-framing
stadium-style dunes to a dramatic closing stretch of do-or-die water holes where the vistas are dominated by blue
They are arguably the most treacherous set of holes outside of Sawgrass
Le Golf National’s L’Albatros course fully deserves its lofty 21st place within our list of Golf World Top 100 Golf Resorts: Continental Europe
It’s a bucket list layout every golfer should experience… just take your A-game and plenty of balls
Le Golf National is a challenging course throughout
but it really bares its teeth over the final four holes where it feels like there’s more water than grass and that every shot is filled with peril
flanking either side of the same stretch of water and with connected island greens overlooked by thousands of fans
is as close to a gladiators’ arena as you get on a golf course
shots that were normally a walk in the park for the world’s best golfers – a wedge to the 15th green
perhaps – got the pulses racing as the wind whipped up and changed direction
If you can hit a high pressure long-iron shot stiff on 18 you’ll deserve whatever rewards it brings you
And there’s no shortage of water to jump into if you sink a winning putt

His work with Fela Kuti found an international audience and his playing was widely admired

Tony Allen, who has died aged 79, was the Nigerian drummer who, together with musician and activist Fela Kuti, pioneered Afrobeat
calling him “perhaps the greatest drummer who has ever lived”
Combining Nigerian and Ghanaian syncopated rhythms with western jazz and funk
the genre took off in the late Sixties and early Seventies in its home countries
following a tour by Kuti and Allen in 1969
and has become hugely influential across the world since then
the son of a Christian Ghanaian mother and a Nigerian father
He started his career as an engineer working for the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation
His musical influences came from the Juju popular music enjoyed by his father
from American jazz and especially from the Ghanaian drummer Guy Warren
who had created his own personal Afro-jazz fusion
Allen’s musical career began as a percussionist with Sir Victor Olaiya and the Cool Cats
adding his own distinctive touch to Olaiya’s “highlife” musical style
who had recently returned from studying music in London and was now working as a broadcaster for NBC
he really wanted to play jazz when he arrived in the country
he decided to form a band that would play the records
interpret the records and make it live.” The band
needed a drummer and Allen was in the right place at the right time
beginning a collaboration that would last for the next 15 years
Fela Kuti’s musical and lyrical style was overtly political and critical of the Nigerian leadership but Allen was all too aware of the dangers of speaking out
as he told an interviewer in 2016: “I detest singing militant
It’s not my thing … What [Fela] was challenging
But it was too direct and that’s why he got all this s**t
You’re a musician – why do you leave yourself to be beaten up all the time like that?”
where he continued to work despite four years marred by heroin addiction
Since Fela Kuti’s death in 1997, Allen had continued to push the Afrobeat sound with his band Afrobeat 2000 and other musical collaborations. He had worked with Blur singer Damon Albarn, on their The Good, The Bad & The Queen project, culminating in an album that was voted Best Album of 2007 by Observer Music Magazine.
Allen saw no conflict between his traditional analogue drum style and that of newer digital musicians. In 2019 he collaborated with techno trailblazer Jeff Mills at an exhilarating gig at the Barbican in London.
His memoir, Tony Allen, co-authored with Michael E Veal, was published in 2013.
Allen is survived by his second wife, Sylvie Nicollet, whom he married in 1987, together with their three sons and four children from his first marriage.
Tony Allen, musician, born 12 August 1940, died 30 April 2020

She screamed, “I can do that,” and soon after, she could hit the ball herself. This was the moment she knew there was no turning back. Haibin Zhang, her father, was her inspiration and guide behind her success today. Seeing her swing the club, he knew she had a natural talent and seemed to enjoy the game. That decision completely changed the life of the Chinese professional golfer forever.
Rose Zhang is of Chinese descent, as both her parents were born and raised in China. However, she currently lives in Arcadia, California, making her an American professional golfer on the Tour. Haibin Zhang and Li Cai married in 1993 and moved to the United States before Zhang and her older brother, Bill Sida, were born. Moving to America was indeed the best decision her parents ever made.

If not a golfer, Rose Zhang was always interested in playing sports. Thanks to her father for supporting her through all aspects of life.
Before Rose Zhang even discovered golf, she was already involved in many other sports. She went swimming and played tennis during her school days. This was because her father enrolled her in every sport possible to see what clicked. He wanted to figure out which sport she had potential in. Being an avid golfer himself, he understood the perks of being an athlete and where it could take a person.
She still abides by a statement that her father had once told her. “If you stay disciplined and practice and get better then there’s potential … If you play well enough, we keep working hard and playing. If you don’t play well enough, it’s going to be just a hobby.” This is what has been getting her across oceans even as a 21-year-old.
What are your thoughts on Rose Zhang? Let us know in the comments section below!

The final hole of the day was at Le Golf National. The par-5, 18th, had been a nightmare for Morgane Metraux on day 2
The Swiss golfer had hit her worst shot that day
causing her to bogey the hole and finish at 8-under
for the athlete carded a birdie on the third day on the same hole at the Olympics
And this same resilience is what helped the 27-year-old overcome the unfortunate setback that she suffered back in 2019
A setback that almost cost her the LPGA Tour card

The Epson Tour back then and now is the official qualifying circuit of the LPGA circuit, where the top female golfers compete to clinch a chance to play at the highest level. Case in point: the setback that season caused Morgane Metraux to work on herself while aiming for the LPGA Tour card, a dream that she was only able to attain two years down the lane.
2021 saw the Swiss athlete make the cut at 14 out of 18 events on the Epson Tour. Out of the same, she finished 5 times inside the top 10, the best of which she carded at the Island Resort Championship, with a victory. Eventually, her performance at the end of the season helped her place at T9 on the Epson Tour Money List to earn an LPGA Tour card for 2022.
Morgane Metraux has now achieved her dream of becoming an Olympic star as well. The golfer is tied with former No. 1 Lydia Ko of New Zealand, both of whom boasted a score of 9-under after the third round of play. The Switzerland pro, meanwhile, did so by carding figures of 70-66-71 over the three rounds at Le Golf National, courtesy of 12 birdies, 9 bogeys and 3 eagles.
What’s your perspective on:From near-death to Olympic fame—Does Morgane Metraux's journey redefine what it means to be a champion?

Playing in front of her home audience, Céline Boutier put up a great show at the Paris Olympics 2024
Her thrilling 7-under 65 first-round performance at Le Golf National was quite captivating
who has been with her and has been very instrumental in her success
it is time to look at the part played by her caddie
Colin Cann is the caddie of Céline Boutier at the Paris Olympics in 2024
Cann has 27 years of experience in the golfing world and has worked with some of the best golfers
Colin Cann has been with Céline Boutier since she was very young and has the experience and the tactical mind to help her
His analytical skills and ability to keep her relaxed are important when Céline Boutier is especially playing in her home country
Céline Boutier thanked Colin Cann for his support and said that he was good at helping her stay on her toes and composed. “I’m really over the moon with the way the tournament started for me,” Boutier said
Cann’s advice was visible in her mature approach to the game
especially on the par 4s where his advice was so useful
The fact that Céline Boutier is quite familiar with Le Golf National
The plan of the two is to carefully analyze the game
This was well illustrated in her first round where she scored eight birdies
a record that included three birdies in the last three holes
This partnership has seen Boutier record major achievements
such as her first major championship victory at the 2023 Evian Championship
but it comes with a lot of support as well
Cann’s involvement is not limited to providing technical assistance; he assists Boutier in dealing with the psychological aspect of performing in front of a home crowd that is eager to see her succeed

Truly a long year for Scottie Scheffler
as the golfer expressed the same sentiment following his TOUR Championship win
but with a slight twist: “It’s been a long… very fun year.” Even so
as he was asked about his scintillating season and couldn’t
Scheffler was asked about his experience as a human, a golfer, and a family man in 2024 during a press conference following the FedEx Cup finale
“If you can describe it in words,” replied the pro humorously
because I don’t think I can.” The 28-year-old then confessed to feeling emotionally drained at the moment before sharing his plans for the immediate future
Paris 2024 Olympics – Golf – Men’s Round 1 – Le Golf National
“I’m looking forward to going home and getting rest for a week or so,” continued Scheffler
The golfer mentioned that he needs to start preparing for it and disclosed the reason behind his enthusiasm: “Because that’s a tournament that I really want us to go out there and win.”
“You had the one weird spot there at Valhalla
which — I just don’t really know what to say about it
but everything else has been pretty special.”
Scottie Scheffler’s 2024 winning streak began at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. It was soon followed by victories at THE PLAYERS, the Masters, RBC Heritage, The Memorial Tournament, the Travelers Championship, the TOUR Championship, and the Olympics. But the most important moment came on May 8, about 10 days before his unexpected arrest, when his wife, Meredith Scheffler, gave birth to their son, Bennett.
That’s not all. The wins he racked up this year also earned him a substantial amount of money. He managed to increase his career earnings to a whopping $71,793,586 (T3 on the Career Earnings List) while garnering $54,228,357 from the season alone. Coupled with the victories, the baby’s birth, and the Olympic gold, 2024 truly seems to have been Scottie Scheffler’s year.
What’s your perspective on:From fatherhood to the PGA Tour—Is Scottie Scheffler the most relatable golfer today?
