The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Sunday that cases emerged between Sept
Minnesota and New York reporting the highest number of cases
The CDC warned that the outbreak may have reached additional states and the actual number of infected individuals is likely much higher than reported
"This is because many people recover without medical care and are not tested for E. coli.," the agency said in a statement
Investigations indicate that Grimmway Farms was the common supplier of the organic carrots consumed by individuals before they got sick, according to the CDC. On Saturday, Grimmway Farms — which is one of the world's largest producers of carrots — initiated a recall for multiple sizes and brands of its organic baby and whole carrots
That includes baby organic carrots with best-if-used-by dates that ranged from Sept

The recall applies to carrots sold at Trader Joe's, Wegmans, Sprouts, 365 from Whole Foods, Good & Gather from Target, Marketside from Walmart, GreenWise from Publix, Simple Truth from Kroger, and more. A full list is available on the FDA website
said the recalled items are likely no longer sold in grocery stores
but they may be in customers' refrigerators or freezers
The company urged that customers with recalled carrots should discard them and sanitize any surfaces they touched
Grimmway Farms added that the implicated farms are out of production
Symptoms usually show up three to four days after the bacteria is consumed
Most people recover on their own after five to seven days
the infection can sometimes result in a serious health condition called hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS)
The Food and Drug Administration said the recalled products may have been contaminated with the Shiga toxin-producing type of E

in may 2013, dutch studio MVRDV won a competition to transform a port-side area of caen presqu’île in normandy
with the project now in development for two years
‘la grande mosaïque’ masterplan has already seen a series of projects under construction
the 600 hectare project tackles the problems caused by the area’s rapid de-industrialization
integrating the historic aspects of the site with the natural environment
an exhibition of MVRDV’s works — alongside the masterplan itself — is open to the public in ‘le pavillon’

the scheme seeks to revitalize the polluted
formerly industrial area by uniting the city and its neighboring towns — hérouville saint-clair and mondeville
the precise methodology that was applied to the project led to the development of a specific spatial planning tool
this idea creates a secondary street network and shared public space around buildings to mediate between the existing and new parts of the scheme
the offset takes the form of an urban version of the ‘bocage’
and gives back to the area the natural heritage that was taken from it during the industrial era

‘through intensely layering the masterplanning rules along with various scenarios and site-specific situations the final result is a highly effective

‘the design balances the need for specificity and flexibility which will allow caen and its neighboring towns to be able to cope with future development in a way that will restore the identity of the area rather than detract from it.’

international firm MVRDV has just won a competition to transform port-side area of caen presquile in normandy
calls for a collection of gardens that respects the existing architecture while creating a lasting transformative effect on the surrounding areas of mondeville and hérouville saint clair.
the urban strategy consists of a mobility plan that accommodates ‘soft traffic’
with a network of pedestrian bridges and a re-reconstructed city center so as to correct the hasty post-world war II restructuring programs
small-scale interventions will result in a mosaic of greenery and veritable ecosystems that will reconnect the historic area to the sea
the site is not far from the d-day beaches and will incorporate existing projects by OMA as well as BE hauvette and pierre champenois; a multimedia library and a regional high court respectively
the fresh view on urbanism that the project proposes is distinct in part because of a the attention of the human scale to the landscape.

Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop is a snake-oil emporium for the age of e-commerce and one-percenters. There, you can purchase goods such as a $400 millennial-pink sweatshirt handstitched with the words “mother lover,” and find a recommendation for a coffee enema
Of course, in Goop-land, toxin seems to mean any substance that the wellness industry and culture has decided will increase your risk of diseases or bring you into the new year anything short of your best self. In its annual detox diet
Goop lumps “unhealthful ingredients and toxins” together
implying that gluten and hydrogenated fats are along the lines of the stuff poison dart frogs use to defend themselves against predators.*
they’d have to be present in cosmetics in really high amounts to do so
And the alarming label toxin applies to neither of these things
Though CVS used the language toxin on Twitter to tout its Greater Goop Award, that label seems to originated with Goop, not the company. A 2017 announcement from the company on the phase-out doesn’t include it
they are ‘chemicals of consumer concern,’ not toxins,” a spokesperson said in an email to Slate
“We apologize for using incorrect language in a tweet last month acknowledging our “Greater Goop Award.””
2019: This piece originally misstated that poison dart frogs “shoot” a toxin at their predators
As blood poured from his leg in the back of a Nazi truck
Stanley Gilchrist was staring death in the face
He had been shot and captured when his unit was ambushed at Lebisey Wood
“He was just a conscript at the time in the Royal Warwickshire regiment,” said son Keith Gilchrist
“He was one of those in the first wave to land on Sword Beach
Their mission was to get to Pegasus Bridge to relieve the glider and airborne division that had landed.”
As Stanley and his unit made their way there they became caught in battle
“Most of the division were shot or wounded,” Keith said
“I’m not sure how many there would have been
“I spoke to someone whose job was to go after and clear the mess
the Germans decided to dump Stanley and another man in the town of Herouville-Saint-Clair
“At the time was a very small town,” Keith said
Their captors took Stanley and the other soldier – whose name is unknown – from the truck and left them on the floor to die

“They were dumped in the church square and left there,” retired IT consultant Keith said
“The local residents took my father and another soldier in and tried to look after them.”
Realising the place was swimming with Germans
“The headteacher and one of the other teachers took particular care of them and decided the best thing to do was to put them in some sheds at the back of the school,” Keith
My father had a bullet through his femur.”
It remained there for the rest of his life
“He couldn’t remember that much about it,” Keith said
“The other man had wounds all over his chest,” Keith said
Their rescuers knew they must get medical help for the men if they were to have any chance of surviving
“But the only doctors were German,” Keith said
“When the doctors saw they had bullet wounds
Stanley and his pal were taken to Rennes as prisoners of war
“The soldiers evacuated the village and went house-to-house to see if there were any more troops there
Stanley’s family had no idea what had happened to him
“It was only when Lord Haw Haw mentioned Stanley Gilchrist in a broadcast
and one of the neighbours heard it and said
“He could hear screams coming out of there,” Keith said
“He would see a Frenchman walking past the window pushing a bike
“He found out later this Frenchman had shot a German as he had walked past.”
Rennes was liberated by the Allies on August 4
After the war he did not know where he had been before he was captured
“But he knew he wanted to thank them,” Keith said
Stanley wrote to French newspapers and councils
asking if anyone remembered what had happened
“He got a reply from the headmaster at the school,” Keith said
But his dad did not go back across the Channel for more than 40 years after the war
“We went over one year and he was showing me where he was left for dead,” Keith said
“We started taking pictures and this lady came out and wondered what was going on.”
“She lived in the house during the war and remembered him,” Keith said
to comfort him when he was lying in the street.”
Stanley and the woman – named Madame Michelle – were overwhelmed
“They just hugged and there were tears,” he said
“He could not speak much French and she could not speak much English
Stanley also met a woman named “Madame Foubert.”
“She was the teacher who had saved him,” Keith said
“They kept in correspondence until they died
They probably exchanged four or five letters a year
“They always wrote in their own language.”
This year the town named a square after the squaddie
“What they have done is name the entire square after my father,” Keith said
“It’s next to the school where he was hidden
They’ve put a plaque up to commemorate my dad on the wall which shows where he was hidden.”
It tells how he was found wounded and tended by villagers
“It was such a surprise because I did not know they were doing it
but because they did not have an address all their attempts failed.”
Keith found out about the naming because he was searching to see how the town commemorated D-Day’s 70th anniversary
“I put in something like ‘D-Day Herouville’ and up popped a thing about the square being named after Stanley Gilchrist
So I looked at the website for the local paper
He visited the square on his dad’s birthday
“He would have been 99 this year,” Keith said
The square was named after his dad because seeing an Allied soldier “was the first sign they had been liberated”

The news of the 2025 tour comes as the band shared a new single with Beck, titled ‘I’m With The Band’
The collaboration came as they recently teamed up for the aforementioned ‘Ohio Players’ lead single ‘Beautiful People (Stay High)’
As well as Beck featuring on the LP, the single ‘Stay In Your Grave’ – which featured in the expanded ‘Trophy Edition’ – also saw the duo team up with rock veteran Alice Cooper, and ‘Mi Tormenta’ featured DannyLux
this is a pretty good Black Keys record that chiefly serves to underline how wedded they are to the fundamentals of their own process.”
Patrick Carney, one half of the duo, spoke to NME last year and recalled their time working with the “incredible” Noel Gallagher in the studio
“He’s hilarious and super talented,” he said
“We were referring to him as ‘The Chord Lord’ because he’s just a perfectionist with it.”
The Black Keys announced earlier this year that they had signed up for new management following a public split from their former team
Amidst speculation the cancellation was due to low ticket sales, the band opened up about the tour, saying it was axed and re-planned in favour of smaller theatre venues as featured on their recent European dates
