The FEI Sires of The World competition in Lanaken provided a thrilling display of top-class equestrian sport. A total of seven combinations advanced to the jump-off. Under intense pressure, Omar Abdul Aziz Al Marzooqi claimed victory with the 10-year-old Selle Français stallion, Enjoy de la Mure (Vigo Cece) The 1.50m Sires Of The World was decided after a six-horse jump-off. Christian Ahlmann was the first to go with the 10-year-old Zangersheide stallion, Otterongo Alpha Z (breeder: Josef Poets) setting a challenging target for the following riders The first, but also only Belgian rider in the start list was Jérôme Guery with the nine-year-old Belgian Sport Horse stallion, Jyrado vh Bovenhoekshof (breeder: Luc Kuppens) Guery and the By Ceira d'Ick son remained faultless but were just under two seconds slower than Ahlmann Omar Abdul Aziz Al Marzooqi managed to improve upon Ahlmann's time with the 10-year-old Selle Français stallion The duo ultimately won the Sires Of the World Al Marzooqi: "It was our first show after Paris" Reflecting on his expectations going into the event Al Marzooqi said: "Enjoy came here as his first show back after the Olympic Games in the warm-up he felt really fresh and happy Al Marzooqi acquired Enjoy de La Mure at the beginning of this year with the stallion being considered a prime choice for the Paris 2024 Olympics "As he has experience in the bigger classes with Al Marzooqi has plans to take Enjoy de La Mure to Spain for a couple of weeks of competition before returning to the UAE to compete in several five-star events Al Marzooqi paid tribute to the team that supported him throughout In the final standings, Christian Ahlmann followed in second place, while Philip Rüping with Baloutaire PS (Balou du Rouet) took third Jérôme Guery finished fourth as the slowest clear round Kevin Jochems completed the top five in the saddle of the 12-year-old Casillas van de Helle (Casall) Christian Ahlmann: "He only recently stepped up to this level" who claimed second place aboard Otterongo Alpha Z he knew it would be a challenge but had faith in his horse's abilities. "Otterongo Alpha Z stepped up to the 1.50m-1.60m level just a few months ago but he’s a careful horse with great scope "I took an extra stride that wasn’t necessary but sometimes it’s how things go," he reflected "I’m still very happy with his performance." Ahlmann plans to take Otterongo Alpha Z to larger shows in December while his next immediate focus will be taking three other horses to Mexico for a series of competitions over the next two months Philipp Rüping: "The warm-up was nothing compared to what came today" fresh off a successful season with Baloutaire PS shared his thoughts on the performance after securing third place Rüping described the previous class as a warm-up round but acknowledged the sharp contrast in difficulty between the two days Rüping knew his horse was up to the task "I've had Baloutaire PS for a few years now winning several Grand Prix events at the 1.60m level Rüping was the last to enter the jump-off a position that can be both a blessing and a curse but I didn't catch the first distance between jumps two and three From three to four wasn’t as fluid as I would’ve liked I think that’s where I lost most of my time and I’m really happy with how he performed." Results Only in the horse world can semen sell for £11,500 – and the proceeds go to support sick and injured children At the Bolesworth Elite Auction on 18 November a breeding to Olympic stallion Enjoy De La Mure was sold in aid of the Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund The French-bred 10-year-old, owned by HH Sheikha Fatima bint Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s Al Shira’aa Farms, turned heads in Paris when he and the UAE’s Omar Abdul Aziz Al Marzooqi jumped clear to qualify for the individual Olympic showjumping final. well-filled stands some of the world's best approved stallions gathered for this prestigious class during the FEI WBFSH Jumping World Breeding Championship for Young Horses 2024.  50 horse-and-rider combinations came to the start on Friday ready to compete over the tough 1.50m course designed by course designer Bernard Mathy and his team Only six pairs managed to qualify for the jump-off.  the victory eventually went to Omar Abdul Aziz Al Marzooqi from the United Arab Emirates With the 10-year-old SF stallion Enjoy de la Mure (Vigo Cece x Sable Rose he appeared in the ring as the fourth rider and with a rapid finishing time of 41.07 seconds Al Marzooqi was over the moon with his victory “This was only his first show after the Olympics in Paris "We bought him about a year ago with the plan to go to the Olympics and thanks also to the help of William Funnell because without them this would not have been possible.” Al Marzooqi's round was just fast enough to keep Christian Ahlmann (GER) and Otterongo Alpha Z (Darco x Hedjaz bred by Josef Poets) from the victory Ahlmann had set the tone as the first starter with a clear round in 41.16 seconds with his 10-year-old stallion but in the end the two had to settle for second place “I am very happy with this second place today," Ahlmann said "Otterongo has already had a good season and has only been jumping at this level for just over a year now He is very careful and therefore always needs a few jumps to feel comfortable in the ring In the jump-off it went a lot easier."  The third place was claimed by Philip Rüping (GER) with the 13-year-old Oldenburg stallion Baloutaire PS (Balou du Rouet x Chacco Blue who already achieved a 6th place in the Sires of the World last year with the same stallion entered the ring as the very last combination and clocked in 41.33 seconds “This was a pretty tough class for my feeling because there were a lot of fences and also the time allowed was tight enough” “I had my sights set a bit on victory because I know Baloutaire is a fast horse but I didn't get the first distance both from fence 2 to 3 and from fence 3 to 4 I lost at least 1.5 seconds and so the victory was gone.” If you think university life is lie-ins and nightlife, take a look at 21-year-old Omar Abdul Aziz Al Marzooqi, who made his Olympic showjumping debut at Paris 2024 who was also the flag bearer for the UAE along the Seine completed his degree in philosophy and sociology alongside preparing for the Olympics this summer He studied at the prestigious Sorbonne in Paris one of the top-ranked universities in the world “I have just finished my double bachelors degree “The Sorbonne also has a small campus in Abu Dhabi and sometimes in the last year they gave me online sessions to make my life easier William Funnell is the chef d’equipe for the UAE team who has been his long-time coach and previously competed in Nations Cups himself gained their first ever Olympic qualification for Paris in Doha last year Omar comfortably qualified for the individual final aboard Enjoy De La Mure try to ride as you usually ride,’” Omar explains “My dad – Abdelaziz – gave me some tips too My dad has been my trainer since I was seven years old and knows me inside out My parents are here – my mum for the first time – my siblings the who UAE equestrian family; this is the least I can do for them.” “I decided to keep everything tidy and not put the time in my mind whenever you go fast there might be some tricks,” he says “I took my time to enable the horse to clear the fences and it worked out “He was bred here in France and the breeder and his previous rider is also here Enjoy always tries his best; he’s a fighter who loves to jump and he’s very energetic I just need to place him in the right place and he’ll do the job.” Ultimately it would not be enough to challenge for the medals but it was an eye-catching debut from the 2018  youth Olympic silver medallist The little train of Le Mure In a speech before his corps of ambassadors in 2019 the president declared that France had a “deep state” and warned them to fall in line and implement his vision especially when it came to warming relations with Russia Farnaud’s brief included countries such as Algeria where Macron has attempted high-profile — and high-risk — initiatives that have yielded mixed results at best Multiple officials said Farnaud was reluctant to implement Macron’s initiatives noting via email that he was not allowed to talk to the press as a senior civil servant He referred questions — submitted by POLITICO by email — to the foreign ministry’s press service was perceived by half a dozen diplomats who spoke on condition of anonymity as a deliberately brutal choice by Macron to assert his authority over the system Diplomats said the sacking may be a preview of how Macron intends to staff the foreign ministry’s top-level jobs if he is re-elected next April with more political appointees who are loyal to his vision French diplomats are already concerned by a planned overhaul of the civil service which would include ambassadorial positions Some officials have pondered whether Farnaud’s management style was a factor in his removal Three French diplomatic officials said a report was filed in recent weeks with more than a dozen complaints about his behavior Several diplomats who have worked with him over the years corroborated reports of a terse management style But other diplomats dismissed this hypothesis They noted Farnaud was appointed MENA director in 2019 even though he had faced action over similar accusations in a previous posting These diplomats also highlighted that Macron did not sack his diplomatic adviser or his deputy diplomatic adviser, who were both accused of bullying and harassment and were the subject of a review by an external firm in 2020 Farnaud has been replaced as MENA director by Anne Gueguen well-respected and high-ranking diplomat who served as No 2 at the French permanent representation to the U.N in New York and had been serving as deputy secretary-general of the ministry until her appointment weeks before France will host an international summit on Libya on November 12 and in the midst of a severe diplomatic crisis with Algeria French diplomats gathered last Friday evening in the grand dining room at the foreign ministry to bid Farnaud farewell The invitation sent by the secretary-general of the foreign ministry did not provide any hints on what he will do next Despite being dismissed from his previous post Presidential utterances set off tremors but efforts to prevent a military strike on Ukraine continue apace The sparring illustrates how much France’s presidential election is looming over the country’s rotating EU presidency Overture is French president’s latest attempt to get on the global diplomatic chessboard The unabashedly pro-EU Emmanuel Macron faced attacks from all sides for flying the EU banner under the Arc de Triomphe An over 100-year-old structure is revitalized into a restaurant that offers a combination of swanky service with a high-end vintage allure One block west off of the Glen Rose town square butted up against a hill near the town’s water tower two historic structures are currently undergoing renovations to become two new eating establishments is what will soon be an Airbnb/casual dining restaurant called Maddie’s Place On the right side of the property tucked away in the shade of the hill that rests behind it is the newly renovated WhiskyWoods Steakhouse at 101 NE Vine this new high-end steakhouse/speakeasy meets casual dining is the brainchild of native New Mexican and Dallas-Fort Worth real estate broker Stephen LaMure LaMure and his wife Dana have gone through the process of revamping this over 100-year-old piece of rural Texas history into the fine dining establishment it is today LaMure says he knew the town of Glen Rose was in need of a spot like this the very first week he and his family moved to this quiet hamlet we didn't have our TV set up and I didn't know anybody in town,” LaMure says Where's the local watering hole to watch the Cowboys game?’ He told me the only spot in the area where the game was on which if you’ve ever watched a Monday night football game means the restaurant closes around halftime A view of WhiskyWoods' newly remodeled main dining area I think we're going to have to open a bar in town that stays open at least to the end of the Cowboys game.’” LaMure says he spotted an old building that was once the now closed Hollywood and Vine restaurant located near the Glen Rose town square “We kept looking at it because we liked the location right on the side of the hill and we felt like we could make an addition and offer some more fine dining in the area,” he says LaMure says he was able to acquire the property beginning what would amount to five years’ worth of renovations The property originally had three structures on it but with so much work and materials needed to revitalize the two over 100-year-old structures on both sides of the property construction promptly began on the main building so as to not destroy any of the original planks What was broken or missing would eventually be replaced with materials matching the era LaMure and his wife were trying to bring back — the roaring twenties The name WhiskyWoods itself hails from the days of prohibition which is what the town of Glen Rose was called by G-men and bootleggers from that era the restaurant itself was opened on August 25 the same day the town was raided by the Texas Rangers during prohibition There’s also an homage to the famous bank robbing couple know as Bonnie (Elizabeth Parker) and Clyde (Barrow) in the back-bar area A picture of the two outlaws is reverently placed under two real Tommy guns that rest near a high back table But the homages to the roaring 20s don’t end there Just around the corner from this shrine of sorts is a classic gun cabinet that doubles as a door to one of the restaurant’s most unique features — a hidden speakeasy This section of the restaurant boasts a 20s style leather sofa And no two details were too precious for LaMure and his wife who painstakingly found every bit of the period appropriate artwork and furniture that adorns this newly remodeled eatery from a slew of antique stores over the years The walls were also done with what LaMure calls a “Museum Finish” thus adding to the feel of an authentic 20s style interior instead of the metal building that doubled as a bar in the former Hollywood and Vine eatery LaMure has added a giant open seating space This is where the Bonnie and Clyde shrine is located “We had to excavate a little bit of the hill back here to get enough room to build this part but I think it was well worth it,” LaMure says “We built this section of the building to also be a place where everyone can see each other We'll watch some people walk in and they're about to sit down and then all of a sudden they see somebody across the room and they go over and stand there at their table for 15 minutes or pull a table together and join them.” Besides wanting to build a local meeting spot LaMure and his head chef Scott Halverson have also devised a menu of high-quality fare usually only found in the city The WhiskyWoods menu boasts such offerings as a grilled certified Angus beef ribeye LaMure and Halverson are also completing a new menu for the front section of the house which is WhiskyWoods’ new fine dining area and a variety of refined steaks,” LaMure says LaMure is building a stage to host live outdoor performances that can be scene best from the second floor of the WhiskyWoods’ structure the first floor of this building has a large enough footprint to host almost any size party already LaMure verified he took the original 2,500 square foot layout of this 1870s building and pushed it out to an even 6,000 square feet nearly doubling the original building’s footprint When the second floor of this space is completed LaMure says he would like to rent the spot out as an event space He can even see having a few ghost hunters swing by and check out the property given there’s been a few reports of spirits roaming the halls especially the second floor of the much smaller Maddie’s Place south of WhiskyWoods This roughly 1,400 square foot structure is still under construction so all you ghost aficionados will have to wait to check it out until later on this year “We salvaged everything we could from the original house and then took our time trying to find pieces that would fit in with our idea of the décor,” he says “We are pleased with how everything turned out And even though we have several other projects to consider The restaurant side of WhiskyWoods is ready to fill in that void we felt when we first moved here a few years ago.” Stephen Montoya is the Digital Editor for Fort Worth Magazine During the confinement period, you Amaury visited the centres in GoYang & Geomdan and had the chance to see the PSG Academy Bupyeong U18 team in action to see how the work the coaches have put in all year long has been put into practice on the pitch The PSG Academy South Korea opened in September 2021 There are seven centres with some 1000 youngsters benefitting from high-level coaching thanks to the club's expertise The United Arab Emirates’ 21-year-old Omar Abdul Aziz Al Marzooqi impressed at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris with the 10-year-old Enjoy de la Mure (Vigo Cece x Sable Rose) Al Marzooqi jumped clear in the individual qualifier and finished 19th overall after a solid round over the final course that according to the masterminds behind it – France’s Gregory Bodo and Spain’s Santiago Varela – was the biggest track they’ve ever built “I was very lucky to have all my family there to support me it was an unbelievable experience,” Al Marzooqi tells World of Showjumping about his time at the Games “Enjoy and I are not so seasoned at 1.60m level On the first day – in the team qualifier – we were clear until the last line the individual qualifier went really well and we were clear I think we lacked experience through that combination where we faulted I'm very happy with the way Enjoy jumped throughout the week Without Enjoy and the vision from Sheikha Fatima Paris was not the first time Al Marzooqi represented the UAE with great success he claimed individual silver and team bronze at the Asian Games in Hangzhou with Dalida van de Zuuthoeve (Thunder van de Zuuthoeve x Leader M van de Zuuthoeve) and at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires Al Marzooqi jumped to individual silver with La Corina Lala The UAE team’s European base is at William Funnell’s Billy Stud “The latter is our main base for the team,” Al Marzooqi explains I have a couple of younger horses that we own and we also have the support from Al Shira’aa Farms Sheikha Fatima has sent us a couple of horses to produce including a few very good ones like Enjoy and Chacco Bay (Chaccato x Heops) I have twelve horses to compete with at the moment.” Al Marzooqi’s father Abdulaziz Ali Al Marzooqi who himself is a passionate rider and has been the chef d’equipe for the UAE team He never forced me into this sport; I had love for horses since I was young and really enjoyed spending time with them my father asked me what my goals were in the sport; if I wanted to do it professionally or not Since doing this sport on the highest level is a big commitment he wanted to make sure that I was serious – which I was “My father is always by my side at the big shows He knows me inside out; he knows how I think and he can give me some small comments that he knows I can cope with because he and my father have a similar mindset William’s experience with jumping at the bigger levels has for sure helped me a lot and it made our path easier with Enjoy. First and foremost William tries to simplify everything and keep the horses very happy.” Al Marzooqi has combined riding with his studies in the Sorbonne University “My parents were adamant that I keep studying as well so I have just finished my bachelor degree and have applied for the masters We have a small campus in Abu Dhabi and they have a special pathway for athletes which helped me a lot in getting ready for the Olympics,” he tells Spending time in Europe has been essential for further developing Al Marzooqi’s riding career “I came to Europe for the first time when I was 12 “With the help of my father and the support from Al Shira’aa it was very interesting for me because I had never done an international show Competing for the first time internationally was something really special; it was an honour to represent my country.” Competing next to world-class riders in Europe has been beneficial “I've been watching the top riders from I was very young I used to just sit in the warm up and watch I love to watch the top riders and apply what I see to my horses. I try to see what suits them best and follow my feeling on each of my horses and our show circuit in the UAE is getting bigger and bigger as well with more of the top riders coming over in the winter.” “Sheikha Fatima’s strategy and her vision of supporting the local riders has changed the sport in our region,” Al Marzooqi says about the female force behind Al Shira’aa “I was very lucky to be one of her choices and I have had her support since I was jumping the children’s classes all the way up to the Olympics I am also thankful for the support from our Rulers The UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Sheikh Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.” Sheikha Fatima’s strategy and her vision of supporting the local riders has changed the sport in our region “The sport has developed massively in the past ten years with Sheikha Fatima’s leadership Our point of view has changed from trying to win a 1.30m class to developing horses to their prime through our culture and obviously also through our religion as well which is something really special and they mean a lot to us For us as international athletes and riders keeping Enjoy feeling good and at his best The 10-year-old stallion Enjoy de la Mure was Al Marzooqi’s ride in Paris and in September the two took to the top of the podium in the FEI Zangersheide Sires of the World in Lanaken it was actually the same week as the World Championships in Lanaken,” Al Marzooqi tells “I didn't qualify for the finals back then As soon as I jumped a small course with him I knew he was the one we had been looking for." where I rode him for about six weeks before we flew him to Abu Dhabi It was almost two months before our first show together and he was immediately placed in a two-star Grand Prix He won a two-star Grand Prix two weeks later and since then he is like a teddy bear,” Al Marzooqi describes Enjoy’s personality “I think he knows me as well as I know him; he knows when I need him the most He is always very happy and excited to jump and he loves to get into the ring Winning the Sires of the World in Lanaken ahead of his childhood idol Christian Ahlmann was a special occasion for Al Marzooqi “It was a nice competition with great sport,” he recalls and I thought it would be very tough to get his time I wanted to try my best without going too crazy with Enjoy I had to give him a good distance and then we managed to take one out in the last line – and he did it really easy Being on a podium with Christian Ahlmann means a lot to me I love my horses and their happiness comes first “This is the least I can do for my country and I hope this is just the beginning for us,” Al Marzooqi says about his recent success “Our plan is trying to qualify for the World Cup Finals and also do some Nations Cups I'll try to save Enjoy for the next Olympics because he is a horse of a lifetime for me and his health is the most important thing for me I enjoy seeing my horses develop and I don’t want to push them to the maximum and I am not saying that I am not competitive I love my horses and their happiness comes first.” 7.10.2024 No reproduction of any of the content in this article will be accepted without a written permission all rights reserved © World of Showjumping.com This is not the first time France will host the G7 It was actually France that launched the G6 citizens across the world suffered the consequences of the first oil crisis French President Valéry Giscard d’Estaing brought together the future G7 members (except Canada) in Rambouillet the declaration adopted at the 1975 Summit already demonstrated the member countries’ sense of responsibility to the poorest countries That remains the sense of the G7 today as its goal in 2019 is to combat inequality under the Presidency of François Mitterrand in 1982 information and communication technologies and international political issues such as the Falklands crisis and the war in Lebanon A consensus emerged in Versailles as to the need to step up development assistance and support for developing countries has been central to talks ever since The 1989 Summit happened to coincide with the 200th anniversary of the French Revolution an opportunity for participants to reaffirm their commitment to a foundation of shared values The issues of developing countries’ debt and climate change were central to talks The Summit also saw the creation of one of the major international security achievements of the G7: the creation of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) to combat money laundering and the financing of terrorism He decided to make the Summit an opportunity to promote globalization for the benefit of all An agreement was reached on debt alleviation for the poorest countries measures were adopted to coordinate the fight against drugs and organized crime The Évian Summit in 2003 was the first to expand Summit invitations to include African countries Senegal and South Africa were invited to join the discussions The environment was also high on the agenda The shrinking of the ozone layer was also a key concern held under the Presidency of Nicolas Sarkozy in 2011 took place a few months after the Arab Springs began They became the central subject of the talks giving rise to the Deauville Partnership: enhanced economic support and funding of $70 billion were adopted in order to support democratic transitions in Arab countries the G7 has been the forum for 44 years of dialogue and decisions that have transformed the daily lives of the world’s citizens and made history even simply talking and working together is being undermined in a world divided by inequality Our goal is to address the reality of today’s world and respond pragmatically a summary of good news and citizen initiatives that make France shine You are using an outdated browser. I always use seasonal ingredients, and summer offers lots of possibilities. Very exciting! I began to see cherries and figs at the farmers market, so pretty soon I will add to the menu a filet mignon with a cherry and red wine sauce, an escarole salad with fresh figs, gorgonzola cheese in a vincotto dressing and a risotto with cantaloupe melon, zucchini blossom and Montrachet cheese, just to mention some. The first Tour de France stage of the final mountain range gets going in La Mure whose claim to fame is being the penultimate stop on the Route Napoléon further into the Isère département before turning north for the cat-two Col d'Ornon The Ornon is the gateway to the classic Alpine terrain of the Tour To the northwest is the magnificent Belledonne Massif To the east: the peaks and ski complexes of Alpe d'Huez on the Grandes Rousses massif though this stage does visit two behemoths Despite a couple of downhill sections offering some reprieve Its gradient also varies and the 5.2 per cent average includes those descents and veils long sections at nine And that's just an hors-categorie hors d'oeuvre to a very indigestible main course an ascent of the Col du Galibier via the Télégraphe From the bottom in Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne to the top of the Galibier The Télégraphe KoM and the 3km descent thereafter means they're separate beasts but there's barely time to catch breath between them This will be the first ascent of the Galibier since 2011 - the longest fallow period in the climb's history but a landslide meant the race was re-routed over the Croix de Fer After a quite technical 8km descent to the junction with the top of the Lauteret it's almost arrow straight on the schuss to Serre Chevalier "There is a good chance of the breakaway staying away for this stage The last time I raced the Col du Télégraphe and Col du Galibier from that side was during the 2013 Giro d'Italia but the main thing in this stage will be the amount of climbing before the Télégraphe and the Galibier and that it is also the third week Everyone is going to start the stage tired and you are going to have a hard start and hard finish Everyone is going to be exhausted which is another reason why I think the breakaway will stay away "We may see some close racing because everyone will be digging into the reserves The Télégraphe and Galibier in my mind is probably the longest climb in Europe but that from the top of the Télégraphe descent to the start of the Galibier passes so quickly in time There is very little respite in what is otherwise a 42km climb On TV and from the helicopter I think it looks more intimidating there are no barriers and it is very narrow with long straights with sharp switchbacks The fact that the stage finishes with a downhill I would expect to see a little bit of regrouping of the guys who go over the top The stage will be decided by a small group finish whether it's the breakaway or the GC guys." after his heart stopped suddenly on the pitch you still find yourself asking “Is there much more of this?” writes TIM WALKER Intermarché notified the Autorité de la concurrence of its plan to acquire 200 food retail stores operated under the Casino group banner[1] To take account of the stores’ difficult economic situations, the Autorité granted the Intermarché group, at its request, a derogation from the suspensive effect of merger control[2] which enabled Intermarché to complete the transaction without waiting for the Autorité to issue its decision was without prejudice to the final decision to be taken by the Autorité at the end of its investigation and competitive analysis could call into question certain acquisitions by considering that remedies were necessary in areas where there would be insufficient competition for consumers after the transaction the Autorité has cleared Intermarché to acquire control of the stores in question subject to divesting 11 stores to competing banners in order to ensure that consumers have access to sufficient alternatives and can benefit from competition when buying mass-market products Intermarché operates various banners in the food retail sector, including Intermarché, Netto (hard discount) and Les Comptoirs de la Bio. Intermarché and the target stores are active in the downstream food retail markets. Intermarché is also a supplier, notably through its subsidiary Agromousquetaires, and a buyer in the markets for the supply of everyday consumer goods, where the target stores are also present as buyers. The Autorité considered that the transaction was not likely to significantly strengthen Intermarché’s purchasing power in the upstream markets for the supply of everyday consumer goods, given the low purchasing share of the former Casino group stores acquired by Intermarché. The Autorité also found that the transaction was not likely to place the parties’ suppliers in a situation of economic dependency[4]. However, at the end of its analysis, the Autorité concluded that the transaction was likely to hinder competition in the market for the retail distribution of food products in 11 catchment areas surrounding the former Casino group stores in Arc-lès-Gray (70), Bagnères-de-Luchon (17), Blanzac-lès-Matha (17), Boé (82), Charlieu (42), Lambesc (13), Lorgues (83), Revel (31), Solliès-Pont (83), Susville (38) and Valence-d’Agen (82). The Autorité considered that in these areas, where Intermarché would significantly strengthen its market power following the transaction, there would be no credible and sufficient alternatives to Intermarché, to regulate is competitive behaviour. This situation risked leading, in particular, to a reduction in the diversity of the offering, to the detriment of consumers in the areas concerned. To address the risks to competition, Intermarché has undertaken to divest, to one or more competitors, the target stores or, in Lambesc, at its discretion, another store in its group. These commitments will ensure that a sufficient level of competition is maintained and that the interests of consumers are safeguarded in the markets concerned. The commitments are intended to safeguard adequate local competition. The divestitures do not therefore entail the closure of the stores, but a takeover with a change of banner. While the effective conclusion of a merger is subject to clearance by the Autorité de la concurrence, in certain exceptional circumstances, duly argued by the parties, the Autorité may grant a derogation enabling the parties to finalise part or all of the transaction without waiting for the clearance decision, in order to allow for the continuation of the business activities. The granting of such a derogation is exceptional. A derogation may be granted in cases where the acquired business is experiencing significant difficulties, such as financial difficulties, which jeopardise its viability, as was the case here. However, the granting of a derogation by the Autorité is without prejudice to the final decision taken at the end of the investigation, as the Autorité may impose remedies (e.g. divestitures) or even prohibit the transaction if it is detrimental to competition. [1] Since the planned transaction was notified and after Intermarché informed the Autorité, several target stores have been transferred back to the Casino group or removed from the scope of the acquisition. [2] Derogation granted under Article L. 430-4 of the French Commercial Code (Code de commerce) by letter dated 1 March 2024. [3]Autorité decision 24-DCC-02 of 11 January 2024. [4] As noted by the Autorité, prior to the planned transaction, Intermarché, Auchan and Casino entered into new alliances in 2024. The possible effects on competition of these purchasing alliances, which fall within the scope of Article L. 420-1 of the French Commercial Code (Code de commerce), did not fall within the scope of the examination of this transaction. * In Lambesc, the new entity has undertaken to divest either of the two stores identified, at is discretion. A former London teacher has had his teaching certificate yanked after he pleaded guilty to breaking into a home and assaulting two people, Ontario’s teaching regulator says. Kevin Lee Joseph Lamure, a former long-term occasional teacher at Byron Southwood elementary school, was found guilty of professional misconduct by a disciplinary committee after a June 29 hearing, the Ontario College of Teachers said. He is no longer a college member and is restricted from teaching in publicly funded schools, the college said. The decision followed Lamure’s guilty plea last August to breaking and entering, aggravated assault of a woman and assaulting a man with a weapon at a St. Thomas home on Dec. 29, 2018, the college said. He was sentenced to six months in jail followed by three years’ probation. Lamure did not appeal his criminal conviction or sentence. The Thames Valley District school board terminated his employment on Sept. 25, 2021, the college said. Lamure received his teaching certificate from the University of Windsor in 2007, a year after graduating with an honours degree in fine arts, the college said. A St. Thomas First Nations artist is making his mark in Toronto with a life-sized sculpture that delivers a serious statement about environmental conservation. Kevin Lamure is one of four artists with work on display at the Fort York visitor centre through August 9. The outdoor displays, which are part of the first-ever InterNations/InterSections exhibition, are just one event in the Planet IndigenUS arts festival. The regional event is scheduled every three years and celebrates indigenous theatre, culture, visual art, food and music at several different locations throughout southern Ontario. This year, many of the Planet IndigenUS events coincide with the Toronto 2015 Panamania arts and culture festival – which is helping draw a larger audience to the First Nations celebration. Organizers of the InterNations/InterSections exhibition asked each contemporary artist to design pieces that explore modes of transportation through a First Nations lens. The installation, entitled “Up the Creek” is unlikely to blend into downtown Toronto's concrete and steel landscape. It's bold and unusual with a four-metre fibreglass and birch bark canoe balanced atop a black oil barrel. “It kind of has multi-meanings,” said Lamure of his creation. “Absolutely everything around us has been brought to us by oil ... The basic premise of it is to allow the viewer to engage and critically think about how everything we do in contemporary life relies, unfortunately, on oil.” The birch bark canoe is a nod to Lamure's Algonquin roots and the boat's historical significance to First Nations people. When paired with the oil drum, Lamure said the sculpture becomes a biting critique of environmental exploitation. “It (oil) is destroying all that we have. If we don't reconsider and maybe get back to the old ways we're going to be in dire straits and we're going to be up the creek with no paddle,” he stressed. Lamure's sculpture appears alongside the work of London First Nations artist Kelly Greene, Douglas Smarch Jr. and internationally acclaimed Cree artist Kent Monkman. From concept to completion, the sculpture took about a year and $7,500 in materials to finish. The work was commissioned by the Woodland Cultural Centre in Brantford where it will be displayed when its Toronto exhibition closes. Lamure, the manager of First Nations Centre at Fanshawe College by day, travelled to Toronto on Sunday to prepare his sculpture for the official exhibition opening the following night. “It's very exciting,” said Lamure of the opportunity to showcase his work alongside other talented First Nations artists. “I really liked how it all worked out.” This website uses cookies to personalize your content (including ads), and allows us to analyze our traffic.
