I walk seven minutes down Rue Orfila to the Gambetta Metro Station to take Line 3 toward Levallois
The transit part of my commute stays the same
I vary which side of the street I take and when I cross
a blooming wisteria plant along the fence of the park I pass has added a bit of consistency to my morning stroll
I cross the street at the intersection just before the park
deliberately choosing the side where I can walk under its blossoms
as the purple canopy and sweet fragrance envelop me
where the closest thing to the wisteria is the smell of lavender tea in the Smith Center.
with different blossoms spilling from parks
I’ve learned something about myself: I like flowers
a beautiful flower bed lifts me into that euphoric
they remind me that there’s always something good in the world
Along with my newfound appreciation for flowers
I’ve been perpetually in a good mood since the weather started warming up last month
I’ve realized how essential it is to regularly connect with nature and beauty for a good life
Paris is the perfect place to enjoy the outdoors
I took a 45-minute train to Giverny to visit Monet’s house and gardens
When I walked through the entrance and rounded the corner into the garden
and other blooms in every imaginable color stretched out before me
As I walked up and down the perfectly straight
It was just so beautiful—a true aesthetic experience
I only spent two hours exploring the garden
but it was enough to keep a smile on my face for the rest of the day
Even without a trip to Monet’s garden, Parisian parks still put me in a good mood. My friends and I do everything outside—from writing history papers to enjoying un apéro in the grass
I spend over 75% of my waking hours outside
In addition to working through my croissant bucket list
I’ve slowly been checking off a park bucket list in the city
and I’ve found the perfect spots for every occasion
Located only five minutes away from my classes
Jardin du Luxembourg is the park I visit most often in Paris
I’m clearly not alone—there are always crowds lounging in front of the French senate
Half of its charm lies in its versatility: it’s big enough to go for a run without looping endlessly
but the benches and tables are perfect for a quick lunch with friends
Luxembourg might be a great spot to check your emails
but I would never dream of pulling out my computer in Parc Buttes-Chaumont
This dreamy park in the 19th Arrondissement is a hidden gem
Its main attraction is a small temple perched on a cliff overlooking a crescent-shaped pond
The park slopes face the water with some nice flat areas at the bottom
but I already love meeting friends there for a picnic and lounging on the grassy hills
leaving you to feel like you’re miles away in the countryside
is surrounded by art galleries and French Romantic writer Victor Hugo’s former home
so it’s no surprise it’s my go-to park when I’m seeking artistic inspiration
The statue of Louis XIV at its center makes a perfect subject
as do the beautiful arcade buildings around the small park
Its petite size reminds you that you’re still in the city
but the proximity to such beautiful architecture is a feature
one of my favorite parks in the Paris area—Parc Sceaux—isn’t inside the city limits
But since it’s reachable by the RER (Paris’s commuter rail)
I visited once with friends to picnic under the blooming cherry blossoms
and I felt that same magical feeling as I do under my wisteria plant
That feeling only deepened as we explored the grounds
taking in beautiful views of the château and gardens that seemed to go on forever
Parc Sceaux is about nine times bigger than Luxembourg Gardens
I felt in awe that such immense beauty was so close to where I lived
While each of these parks differs in its means
they all offer me the same end: time outside with nature
Being surrounded by sunshine and greenery is the best way I’ve found to relax and reset
My recent visit to Giverny reminded me just how necessary this is.
chose to plant a stunning garden outside his home so that he could be greeted and inspired by beauty every morning
Although I don’t have two acres of my own to cultivate flowers
I definitely have taken this sentiment with me back to Paris
I continue to find inspiration in every flower and park in the city
This semester has been an opportunity to seek out ways to enjoy the simple pleasures of life
it’s been one of the happiest times of my life
Each breath of fresh air is a call to slow down and appreciate the beautiful world around us

— UPDATE: The I-10 Butte La Rose exit has reopened following a crash Friday morning
An overturned tractor-trailer on I-10 at Butte La Rose caused some congestion during Friday morning's commute
but KATC saw another crash occur on the traffic camera around 8:15 a.m
Friday as a passing semi-truck you see pictured crashed into the Basin Bridge's wall
blocking both lanes of the bridge for about 10 minutes
DOTD also reports the exit ramp from I-10 East to LA 3177 (Exit 121) remains blocked due to a crash
KATC will keep you updated as more information comes in
Plenty of attention remains focused on the draft at this point, but the deadline for fifth-year option decisions is looming as well. When speaking to the media on Monday, Jets general manager Darren Mougey made it clear all three of the team’s first-rounders from 2022 will remain in place for at least two more years.
It remains to be seen how effective that tandem will be
but Wilson has managed at least 1,042 yards in each of his first three seasons despite underwhelming QB play for the Jets during that span
Johnson handled a rotational role along the edge as a rookie
but he took on a much larger workload in 2023 and took a step forward with 7.5 sacks
His performance that year resulted in a Pro Bowl nod and created high expectations for the 2024 campaign
Johnson was limited to just a pair of games as a result of his injury
and it would come as no surprise if the Jets waited until he returned to action to explore a long-term arrangement
the Florida State product is on track to collect $13.41MM in 2026
Teams have until May 1 to decide on fifth-year options
It will take until that date for clarity to emerge one way or the other in many cases
but with respect to the Jets questions related to the short-term futures of the Gardner-Wilson-Johnson trio can now be put to rest

$21.19MM for extra sauce really puts my complaints about guac into perspective

“Ah, this one is good,” says Antoine Leclef, Domaine’s chief horticulturist. He holds a tiny but beautiful blossom in his hand. The flowers are freshest when they are in full bloom, between 9 and 10 in the morning, he explains in a soft French accent slightly more gentle than what you encounter in Paris
“You see the yellow heart of this rose?” he says
“That’s how you know it’s ready to be plucked
Put two fingers underneath the blossom and your thumb on top,” he instructs
“Then press a little on top and gently rotate as you pull up.” A perfectly intact bloom pops into his outstretched hand
Photography by Ben Colmbel and © Nem Architectes
and I can feel the Mediterranean sun beating down on my bare shoulders
Distracted by thoughts of the sunscreen I’m not wearing
“You have to roll with your hand,” Leclef says
my feet covered in sand and my nose nestled in its happy place: deep in the fragrant heart of the wild roses that grow along the craggy shoreline
The intense emotional response I experienced when first smelling the Rosa centifolia at Domaine can be explained by basic neuroscience: The olfactory bulb — the structure in the brain that receives and relays the scents we breathe in — is directly connected to both the memory-focused hippocampus and the amygdala
But I prefer Proust’s more poetic explanation of the transportive nature of smell: “A single sound
as soon as the permanent and habitually hidden essence of things is liberated
which may sometimes have seemed to be long dead
is re-awoken and re-animated when it receives the heavenly food that is brought to it.”
While I knew it wasn’t the same scent — like wine
each rose’s fragrance is affected by countless variables of the unique terroir
temperature and elevation — I couldn’t help but wonder if the intensity of the scent memory had something to do with the clarity of the rose molecule in the absence of chemicals
like those of my childhood — and me at the time — were wild and free
When Françoise Lehmann, Lancôme’s global brand president, first set eyes on Domaine in November 2019, her dream was to create a place that would honor Lancôme’s heritage while moving the brand in a more sustainable direction
93% of the ingredients used in Lancôme fragrances are biodegradable
the brand is working toward a goal of using 100% sustainably sourced
100% of what is cultivated at Domaine is organic
“The people who originally owned the property started farming organically in the sixties
and the people at the other farms thought they were crazy,” says Lehmann
‘Why would you grow two roses when you could grow 10 with chemicals?’”
Turns out, the decision to choose only organic growing methods was prescient. “One of the reasons the soil is getting so poor in many other places is because of intensive monoculture farming with lots of pesticides,” says Lehmann
“This is why so many species of birds and animals have disappeared.”
the creatures are alive and very present at Domaine
“The biodiversity really helps the flowers thrive,” he explains
noting that Domaine is also host to 31 species of butterflies
12 species of bats and a whole bunch of snakes
I watch for snakes as we step through the long grass and arrive at a very pregnant mulberry tree
one of 163 species of plants on the property
go ahead,” Leclef encourages as a rooster crows loudly from the terraced fields behind us
I pluck one of the swollen fruits from a branch and take a bite
the flavor of the berry is unlike anything I have ever experienced
“Is this what you put in the Lancôme jams?” I ask
making a mental note to stock up before I head home
There should be fewer pesticides at this place!’” While the birds help pollinate the roses
“They are very good workers,” Leclef notes with a mischievous smile
“They eat the mice that can damage crops and spread diseases.”
it smells shockingly similar to a scented soap my boyfriend in college used that came from Mallorca
He gifted it to me before he went abroad for his junior year in Italy
I pocket my leaves and briefly contemplate picking a few more
“it takes 800 kilograms of fresh rose petals to make just one kilogram of rose absolute (the intensely scented and highly concentrated oil that perfumers use in fragrances).”
“Smell inside the bag,” Leclef suggests with a broad smile
I gently poke my head into the sack and swoon at the heady aroma
“This must be what heaven smells like,” I think out loud as we jump into a waiting car and head to the distillery
By comparison to the idyllic horticultural wonderland that is Domaine
the dsm-firmenich fragrance-processing building is where romance meets reality
uncharming box surrounded by lots of security
I am reminded of what Leclef said about the perfume industry: “It’s very secretive!”
However, it isn’t long before I am allowed access to the inner sanctum of this inauspicious factory. We don special sterilized boots before entering the lab, where we meet Cyril Mestre
which he deposits into a machine that can best be described as a flower microwave
this process has created a small vial of extremely fragrant rose water
“We call this the watery phase,” says Mestre
“We collect the most interesting aromatic molecules in the flowers by using only water and no petrochemicals
This new water-based technology allows us to preserve as much of the original scent as possible.”
The next stop on our adventure is the Barbie-pink main building of Domaine, where Audrey Dangy-Caye
shows us how perfumers combine different ingredients to make a fragrance
Glass bottles filled with 2,000 raw materials (200 natural and 1,800 synthetic) line four curvilinear shelves of a large workstation known as the fragrance organ
Here I finally smell the much-discussed iris root
We also smell various Rosa centifolia extracts
all differing slightly based on the extraction technology used to capture their olfactive molecules
After taking our noses on a dizzying journey through dozens of interesting raw fragrance extracts, Dangy-Caye introduces the pièce de résistance: Absolue Les Parfums
rose-centric collection from Lancôme that is launching in September
“The idea for this collection is to discover the rose as you’ve never smelled it before,” says Dangy-Caye
By combining the Rosa centifolia from Domaine de la Rose with different ingredients
you can experience the many complex facets of the rose
“It is meant to evoke a rose coming from ashes,” says Dangy-Caye
the rose extract from Domaine de la Rose is combined with vetiver and ambrette seeds for a more edgy
you can create so many different fragrances.”
After leaving Domaine, I spend several days in the South of France, taking time to smell the roses everywhere I go. I have a newfound appreciation for the magic of fragrance
and I find myself spending hours exploring perfume shops
But nothing compares to the still-mesmerizing scent of the organic Rosa centifolia petals I have smuggled out of Domaine in my backpack
As I pass through customs at JFK back in the States
I am asked if I have any food or farm products in my bag
I don’t think so,” as they grab my bag and start rummaging
“Aha! I found it,” the security guard booms triumphantly. With great flourish, he produces a bruised green apple I had stashed there several days ago from my welcome basket at Château de Théoule
“You are not allowed to take this into the U.S.!” he says with clear satisfaction and authority

Here's the original story: Louisiana State Police Troop I reports that the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge near Butte La Rose is closed headed westbound leading to a standstill for more than an hour and a half Wednesday morning
Troopers say the reason is a vehicle crash
but there are others they are investigating in the area including four 18-wheelers
They warn that this only contributes to the standstill

The Meatpacking private member’s club already takes its nod from 1930s Paris, but for the occasion, Louboutin kicked things up a gear by transforming the subterranean hotspot into a flower-filled supper soirée. As a label, Louboutin is always a little decadent and delicious, thanks to its sky-high stilettos and fun flats, which tend to have fans salivating at the mouth and coveting more. As such, food that both tasted and looked good was integral to the dark, moody, and sexy celebration.
As the plush venue swilled with art world fixtures, editors in chiefs, and Instagram’s leading beauty authorities, attendees eased in with a cocktail while they sampled the latest scent; a sensual, silky blend of rose, black cherry, ginger, pink pepper, amber, and patchouli.
Despite having taken a red-eye flight from LA, where she’d hosted the inaugural dinner for her new zine about motherhood, Spread The Jelly, Amrit Tietz was bright-eyed, energized, and on music duty for the night. “It’s a good excuse to stay up,” she said.
Once the last spoonfuls of crème brûlée were licked clean, it was time to head out into the night—or to continue the party upstairs at the bar. Needs met, fully satisfied, and armed with the seductive new fragrance, bien sur.

"We were looking to improve our efficiency in planning speed and the ability to drill down a lot more than Excel can," says Eric Champagne
"There isn't enough governance around Excel and we aren't confident in the accuracy of our information
That's the main reason we are going with an open to buy/merchandise financial planning system; we want to spend more time growing the business rather than working on spreadsheets."
la Vie en Rose conducted a full Request for Proposal (RFP) process
a comprehensive questionnaire and a 250-item-requirement list
Centric Planning stood out due to its deep retail expertise
integrated approach and ability to create a single source of truth for planning
La Vie en Rose will leverage two key capabilities within Centric Planning:
the company can set accurate financial targets and translate them into sales and margin plans
Buy targets can be aligned to merchandise receipts and stock projections
"We need accurate information to make good decisions based on outcomes
We want to get the tools in place so we can focus on bigger things
Doing store planning on numbers which we can link back to merchandise financial planning is pretty cool
It will streamline the process between finance
between merchandise planning and also the procurement side of the business." A single source of truth means that the data is true
freeing up time to focus on optimizing in-season
la Vie en Rose expects "to reduce overstock
optimize markdowns as much as possible and make sure we can respond to the market," Champagne notes
"Our intent is to get the right product to the right place on time
We are excited to see how the Centric platform—specifically the item planning portion of the Assortment Strategy module—will aid us in ensuring accurate sales forecasts and the necessary inventory flows to advance our key item business." Do not sell or share my personal information:
Ohio’s secretary of state said his family was shaken but uninjured by a threatening letter containing a powdery substance mailed to his home
Frank LaRose said he returned to his Upper Arlington home from a weekend getaway Sunday night
he said his wife took their three daughters upstairs to settle them in for the evening
and discovered a threatening letter that contained a powdery substance
Police and a hazmat crew responded to the scene
LaRose said the children were sent to a neighbor's home while authorities dealt with the threatening letter
“They told us they thought it was a benign substance and then the lab test came back the next day and confirmed it.”
No one was hurt and the family returned to the home later Sunday night
LaRose said he doesn't know what the substance was
But he said he's concerned about the incident
My first concern is about my family and three little girls had to get rousted out of bed at 10:30 at night because somebody thought that was the way to make a political statement
This is not the first threat made against LaRose
He said he received other threatening letters before the election
a vehicle belonging to LaRose was stolen from the open garage at his home
It was later found parked around the corner from his home
and a state ID badge were found inside the car but the police report stated an American Express credit card was missing
the Ohio Chamber of Commerce reported a suspicious package at its downtown Columbus office
resulting in emergency crews checking out the building

— Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose has announced he will run for state auditor in 2026.
The bid puts LaRose among five term-limited statewide executive office holders playing a game of musical chairs in the 2026 elections
LaRose is running for the seat of current State Auditor Keith Faber
who has announced he will run to succeed Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost
State Treasurer Robert Sprague also announced his bid for governor before switching to run for Secretary of State
LaRose said he was focused on issues at the Ohio state level
“I've enjoyed being Secretary of State for the last six years
I enjoy public service,” he said in an interview with Spectrum News
countered that the former state senator and Army Green Beret does not have any auditing experience
The Ohio Democratic Party said LaRose was only running for State Auditor because he came up short in last year’s Senate race—ultimately losing the GOP primary to Bernie Moreno
LaRose was also not appointed to fill former Sen
“It’s obvious that LaRose doesn’t actually want the job,” Ohio Democratic Party spokeswoman Katie Seewer wrote in a statement
“Ohio voters have rejected LaRose over and over
but he hasn’t gotten the message they’re sending loud and clear.”
Meanwhile LaRose is already preparing to oversee a busy election season this and next year. The 2025 May election includes hundreds of local primaries and a ballot measure
Jon Husted will face a special Senate race
in addition to a gubernatorial race and LaRose’s own State Auditor race
“This may seem counterintuitive because when we think about presidential elections and gubernatorial elections
those are tend to be the big high turnout elections,” LaRose said
in many ways are more complex because what you have is hundreds and hundreds of local races down at the precinct level
LaRose is continuing his conservative agenda in administering elections, despite facing pushback for helping to enact one of the strictest voter ID laws in the country that resulted in more than 7,000 provisional ballots getting rejected in the 2024 elections
LaRose applauded President Donald Trump’s recent rescinding of a Biden executive order for states to promote voter registration for citizens of all backgrounds
“It was really meant to put federal government agencies into a role that they should have never been in doing
I was part of a group of secretaries of state that sued the motion to block that
So I was glad to see President Trump rescind that order.”
The only Democrat running for statewide office in the 2026 election so far is Dr
who has announced her candidacy for governor
By tapping new hops and out-there ingredients
Hop Butcher for the World has become one of Chicago’s buzziest breweries
It takes a lot to stand out among Chicago’s beer makers
But if there is one brewery that best represents drinkers’ tastes in the 2020s
thanks to its embrace of new hops and its eagerness to explore weird (but great!) flavors
Jude La Rose and Jeremiah Zimmer launched South Loop Brewing Co
rebranding it in 2016 as Hop Butcher for the World (a play on poet Carl Sandburg’s famous description of Chicago)
which fit their emphasis on the then-new phenomenon of juicy
They make an annual trip to Washington’s Yakima Valley
one of the world’s largest hop-growing regions
“Companies provide early access to anyone who’s willing to experiment,” La Rose says
you can try barrel-aged stouts made with the likes of Frango mint oil and pineapple soft serve
The two acquired the taproom and accompanying brewery from Half Acre in 2022
That and a second production facility allowed them to expand distribution to 35 states and extend offerings into less bitter areas
and Urbs in Horto continue to nod to edgier flavors
and the taproom serves as a de facto focus group for further experimenting
Says Zimmer: “We can put something in a keg and see what people think.”
