The French visitors toured the Civic Centre
revisiting gifts given by the people of Lambersart to the people of Southborough over the past 30 years
Among the residents networking over a ploughman’s lunch of local produce
John Francis of Tunbridge Wells Youth Football Club was eager to discuss facilitating some youth matches against Lambersart teams
Also at the lunch was Simon Miller of Southborough & District Wheelers
who had cycled to Lambersart earlier this year with a view to extending their relationship with Cyclo Club de Lambersart
The evening saw the official re-signing ceremony and exchanges of gifts
culminating in the gala dinner at the Masonic Hall
Entertainment laid on by the local hosts included local singer and musician Michele Roszak
and the musician and Southborough theatre group member Edd Price
SHDOFA hosted all the foreign guests overnight
before sightseeing and entertainment by Nell Price of Southborough’s Arty Farty Retreat on Sunday
followed by a final carvery lunch at the Masonic Hall

THE Southborough and High Brooms District Overseas Friendship Association [SHDOFA] met their counterparts from twin town Lambersart at their AGM at Meadows School on March 11
the new Mayor of the town in northern France
along with six other guests from Lambersart and 35 members of SHDOFA
Honorary memberships were given to Ives and Sheila Branson
and Jackie and Bob Prance for their long service to SHDOFA and to Southborough as a whole
saying: “They have all been committee members and/or chairs of the association and have worked tirelessly to progress our friendship with Lambersart.”
Plans for the forthcoming year include a trip to Dover to meet up with French colleagues
and a pétanque tournament at the White Rock in Underriver against twinning associations from Sevenoaks and Otford
There will also be regular pétanque sessions on the piste in Yew Tree Road
the two towns celebrated the 25th anniversary of the twinning agreement between them
This included a gala dinner at Salomons and entertainment by a choir comprising singers from both communities
Celebrations and commemorations were also held in France
marking the anniversary of the liberation of Lambersart after World War II
