You'll need just a few items and ingredients to get started with making lattes at home
totally comfortable staying up to read or watch TV until 2 or 3 a.m
started working full time and became one of those borderline insufferable people who do morning workouts
I have no real explanation for this shift in behavior except that I started to actually look forward to my mornings -- and that's in large part thanks to my discovery of a homemade latte recipe.
I drink a latte every morning, opting for a cozy hot latte during these chilly winter months and a satisfying iced latte during the summer. Not only can you make a delicious latte tailored to your taste, but you can also save a ton of money skipping the lines at Starbucks or Dunkin'. And no, you don't need an expensive espresso machine to do it
I'll break down how you can make quality hot or iced lattes at home on the cheap.
For more tips, read about my favorite espresso and coffee system, and how to remove coffee stains from all of your mugs.
For the longest time, I would hack my way into cheap, homemade lattes because the apartment building I live in has two espresso machines for the community. So every morning after walking my dog, I'd saunter down to one of the machines, make myself a quick double shot of espresso then pop back up to my unit to create my latte.
This process worked great until the machines started breaking more often than they were working. (Nothing felt worse than seeing the "out of order" sign that meant I wouldn't be enjoying my favorite drink after all.) I had to come up with another, more consistent solution. One that did not involve a fickle espresso machine. Or an espresso machine at all. Here's the easily copyable latte recipe I developed.
You'll need just a few items and ingredients to get started with making lattes at home. These items are mostly household staples that won't break the bank. Here's what to gather:
I then add about two ounces of warm water to the glass
You can adjust the amount of espresso and water
depending if you want a single shot or a triple shot
Stir the espresso powder and water together thoroughly with a whisk or spoon
The espresso is finely ground so it should incorporate completely
Here's where you can really tailor your recipe to your desired taste
but my go-to latte is a salted maple and cinnamon latte
Add two teaspoons of maple syrup to the bottom of the glass
I'm not a super-sweet coffee drinker myself
so be sure to adjust if you like sweeter lattes.
add a pinch of flaky salt to the maple syrup and mix together
add your double espresso shot and mix well again to fully incorporate the syrup and espresso.
you need to decide if you want to go hot or iced
but you can add more if you like more ice in your lattes.
Fill up your espresso glass with your milk of choice
I usually go with whole milk for iced lattes
but almond and oat are also solid alternatives for this recipe.
Take your handheld electric frother and whisk the milk for a few seconds until the milk becomes a delicate
Pour the milk over the ice and espresso mixture in the other glass
you can whip up some delicious steamed milk in mere minutes
I pour about a cup of whole milk into a saucepan and heat it on medium-low on the stovetop
I froth the milk with my handheld electric frother until it foams
if you have an espresso machine with a steam wand
but I've designed this recipe to not require an espresso machine or any of its accompanying accessories.
steamed milk over the espresso mixture in the other glass
but I like to go full barista and top my latte off with a few shakes of cinnamon or nutmeg
The beauty about homemade lattes is that you can truly tailor them however you like.
Now all you have to do is mix up your latte and love your mornings.

Richmond parents will soon have a new downtown gathering spot for their toddlers
an indoor play space designed for children up to 6-years-old
is set to open later this year in Shockoe Bottom
Founder and owner Lacey Cain said the new venue in suite 114 at 1901 E
will feature play structures for children that are focused on “gross motor skills” like running
Cain is planning to add climbing structures
a sensory table and an area where kids can make art
Toys and play areas will change frequently to help children continue to grow
Cain earned a masters degree in education leadership from Regent University
and has worked in the education and nonprofit sectors for over a decade
Perhaps her most pertinent qualification is the fact that she’s a mom of two toddlers
Cain said she struggled to find a community in the Richmond area of like-minded moms who understood the ups and downs of parenthood
Cain stands outside the building of her new play studio
“None of my friends had children at the time,” Cain said
That realization led Cain to conceive the idea for Ladders and Lattes
“I really wanted to bring a low-stress space for moms to connect
where they could enjoy coffee or tea,” Cain said
“There aren’t a lot of spaces where parents who work remotely can go,” Cain said
“Maybe they don’t need a full-time daycare
The 1,800-square-foot space on Franklin Street suited her needs
as she wanted parents to feel comfortable letting their children run around without going too far
Though there are no plans for an official café component as of now
coffee and tea options will be available for parents
The play studio will incorporate natural and non-toxic materials like wood and will integrate Waldorf and Montessori education philosophies in children’s play
Ladders and Lattes guests will visit the play studio’s website and book a two-hour play session prior to coming in
One to two assistants will be in the play studio at any given time to assist
Prices for the play sessions have not yet been determined
Cain also plans to host workshop classes for parents and private parties in the play studio space
The lease on the Ladders and Lattes space begins in April
Cain hopes for an opening sometime early in the fall
and said she’ll leave it up to Richmond parents to help her decide what they want to see most in the space
“Everything else is in Richmond’s hands,” Cain said
“I’m still talking to stakeholders and talking to moms
A lot of things are going to be responsive.”

At first I thought that said “Ladders and Latkes” which would be a great combo
Seems like a lot of these types of “cafes” have opened up in the past year
The concept is great but there is usually a need to book a time slot and pay to be there
Would be great to see something that allows parents to just drop in and not have to pay $20 a kid to play
My kids that are the age that this caters too can’t hang for 2 hours anyways
Also an odd location as not a lot of kids/families could walk here
and not sure I could bring my kid here with others to “work” while they played
I mean you take them home after and then go back to the office
I wish they would open an non-appointment place too
There’s no concept like this in this area of town
It will be accessible to various parts of the city
I’m hopeful that it will appeal to a variety of families from different backgrounds
Looking forward to seeing this space come to life

Holsman believes one of life’s exquisite pleasures is a great cup of fresh ground coffee
especially the creamy texture of a café latte
brimming with the silky foam of steamed milk
one or two shots of espresso topped with more frothed milk on top
Melissa and TCPalm visual journalist Crystal Vander Weit have teamed up on Sunday mornings to hunt for the best café lattes to be found in Stuart
Q: What is your favorite coffee spot so far
that’s tough to answer because Stuart has several terrific coffee shops and cafés that not only brew a great cup of java but serve it up in fun and inviting settings that include inside and outside seating
is where Crystal and I have visited the most so far
Their impressive turquoise blue espresso machine is as good as it gets to create the perfect café latte
I love browsing their eclectic collection of jazz

The Sage Barista Touch Impress next to the Sage Oracle Jet
Meet the new and improved Barista Touch with Cold Extraction
Thanks to a new and improved design, Sage's Barista Touch Impress espresso machine just got even better
I'm a huge fan of the Sage Barista Touch Impress
Combining a range of automated features for mess-free grinding and tamping with a highly responsive touch screen
it strikes the perfect balance between ease of use and professional-quality features
this espresso machine now includes a new cold extraction setting that can make cold espresso and cold brew alongside its existing menu of hot coffee drinks
you'll get a free Sage Shake & Take travel coffee cup and shaker for all your espresso martini needs
Now available with cold brew and cold espresso settings
the Barista Touch Impress is waving goodbye to watered-down iced lattes this summer
It still features all the same automated tamping tech and Auto MilQ features I loved about the OG
and comes with a Shake & Take travel coffee cup when you buy now
I review dozens of espresso machines every year
and if there's been one major shift in the market in the last 12 months
I can't remember the last time I tried a major machine launch without some form of cold brew capability
So it's no wonder that Sage is in a rush to update its range of machines to include this latest tech
The first to get the cold brew treatment was the Oracle Jet
I was really happy with the cold brew I achieved with this machine
Although the £1,199 price tag of the Barista Touch Impress with Cold Extraction is hardly an affordable option
it's a promising sign that Sage is planning to expand its cold brew capabilities into its more entry-level offerings
"Cold coffee has unlocked new possibilities
allowing more people to enjoy high-quality brews in innovative ways."
people are seeking exceptional experiences when crafting food and drinks at home - and coffee is no exception," says Michael Bell
allowing more people to enjoy high-quality brews in innovative ways
We’ve seen a rising demand for barista-level results at home
and the Barista Touch Impress is our answer
it offers an effortless way to craft precision-brewed cold coffee - whether it’s the perfect start to the day or a refreshing pick-me-up on the go."
I'll be testing the Barista Touch Impress with Cold Extraction in the next few weeks
She's been reviewing home tech for over five years
testing everything from coffee makers to the latest vacuum cleaners
Starting out in 2019 as a Staff Writer at TopTenReviews
Millie then moved on to Future's Homes portfolio
where she eventually oversaw all product testing as Head of Reviews
With particular expertise in cookware and kitchen appliances
you'll struggle to find an air fryer Millie's not tested
She's traveled the world reporting on the latest home innovations and product launches
learning how to use pizza ovens from Pizzaiolos in Naples
and touring the De'Longhi factory in Venice
When she's not reporting on home and appliance trends
She's currently learning the guitar - naturally
you will then be prompted to enter your display name
it only makes sense that Peeps are rearing their sugary little heads in a variety of ways
But here’s one we definitely didn’t see coming: a Peep Latte
The Hilliard location of Coffee Connections has rolled out a limited-time Peep Latte
According to a Facebook post from the coffee concept
the drink contains salted vanilla and white mocha
is “a sweeter than standard latte,” and is topped with whipped cream and a Peep
The latte is described by the coffee shop as “Festive
The Peep Latte is available this week only at Coffee Connections
The concept operates a Hilliard storefront
as well as a storefront inside of HIlliard’s Center Street Market

the first thing I see through my window when I wake up is bright scarlet leaves adorning the tree that ripples in the breeze by Alumnae Hall
I refuse to leave my dorm without throwing on a baggy pullover or cable-knit sweater
If you encounter me anytime between the hours of 2 and 5 p.m.
it’s likely that I’ll have a hot coffee from Andrews or V-Dub clasped in my hands
the liquid inside still too scorching for anything beyond sipping
I’m sure this is about the thousandth piece of the season rhapsodizing over autumnal beauty
And I bet you’re tired of hearing people harp on and on about the same three features of the ‘ber months
But here’s why I implore you not to give up on shamelessly and vocally loving the fall
I firmly believe this season brings so much to appreciate
After long summers of soaring temperatures and skies so bright they make your eyes water
what’s not to love about the first tinge of autumnal chill in the air
When you step outside bundled up in a sweater
is there really anything stopping you from stepping on every leaf you encounter to try and find that perfect crunch?
the weather outside is generally and genuinely lovely
The majority of my camera roll has become simple landscape photos
my repeated attempts to capture these fleeting moments of beauty
It’s easy to complain about things like the sometimes-biting chill in the air or the overcast clouds that darken the sky in the middle of the day
I’ve caught myself grousing about both things and more on occasion
I’ve never experienced a New England winter
but I’ve been told over and over that the weather will only get bleaker from here on out
My friends from the area and concerned adults back home describe snowstorms
and below-freezing weather like war stories
the presence of the singular puffer jacket I own seems to hang heavier inside my wardrobe
Just as we’re yearning for summer sun and skies right now
I know that these days will soon become the ones we reminisce on instead
And that realization—that in just a few short weeks
the world will grow colder than I’ve ever known it to be—continues to drive me to take a deep breath and look up at the reddening leaves every moment I step outside
I know there will always be those who denounce this sort of fall aesthetic as “basic,” “stereotypical,” or even “uninspired.” But I believe that there’s nothing wrong in deriving pleasure from the simple things
Such is the most beautiful thing about humans: our ability to find joy in the sound of a dry leaf crunching under our boots
in the whisk of a squirrel’s tail up an oak trunk
in these brief moments that comprise this brief life
you’ll catch me unabashedly wearing the same two knit sweaters every day
spending way too much money at the Underground
and taking every opportunity I can to stop walking
and there’s nothing quite like the feel of cool October wind slipping through your fingertips
Your ticket comes with a captivating 500-piece puzzle to take home
pair up with your friends to compete against other teams and fight for the best place

Make this the year you save money on iced coffees

Blue Bottle’s Craft Matcha is the best matcha powder based on its balanced flavor and delicate
Complex enough to satisfy a more seasoned palate but approachable enough for newcomers
making it a great choice for many applications
It’s also packaged in an attractive and sturdy canister
This matcha can occasionally retain a few lumps after whisking
and thus requires either a vigorous whisk or a few more seconds of incorporation
Packaged in an extra tall tin that prevents spills
not only is this matcha powder very well priced for its quality
but it also outperforms other contenders in taste for matcha lattes
I found that this powder didn’t add much matcha flavor to finished products
Chamberlain’s Matcha Powder has a complex flavor with bright notes
It’s also easy to whisk and conveniently packaged
This matcha is slightly vegetal compared to similar products
making it best suited to those who prefer complex and earthy matcha or when used with sweeteners
which makes it a great option for those new to matcha making but also speaks to its superb quality and production
This matcha’s canister is a bit tricky to open
making it difficult to remove without a cloud of matcha escaping
This fine powder incorporates extremely well when whisked and is versatile and light
Although packaging matcha in a bag allows for an airtight seal
This versatile powder performs well with any application and has the most effective canister out of the options we tested
This matcha powder needs careful sifting before whisking as there are sometimes a few remaining stubborn clumps
Matcha can be prepared in a few different ways
matcha can be scooped directly into a blender
For matcha beverages, the matcha must be whisked. While you can use a handheld milk frother to incorporate the powder into milk or water, I found the traditional bamboo matcha whisk helpful
you’ll want to strain your matcha powder through a fine mesh sieve into a bowl
Whisk with vigor in a Z-shaped motion for 20 seconds
until the powder is well incorporated and the mixture is frothed
The above list includes only matcha powders that are high enough grade to sip on and versatile enough for baking
If you’re looking to bake often with the powder
it might be worth acquiring a second matcha powder that is culinary grade
Culinary grade matcha is made with more mature leaves
and therefore is prone to a more simplistic flavor profile and occasional bitterness
this grade of matcha is usually set at a lower price point and therefore requires less hesitation if large quantities are called for in recipes
Although culinary-grade matcha may not be as impressive in taste as ceremonial
its strong matcha flavor comes through well in baked goods
where any potential bitterness is often lost among the sweetness or other flavors in the dessert
matcha does not have more caffeine than coffee
Depending on how much powder you add to your beverage
the range is about 40 to 180 mg of caffeine per serving
coffee has a range of 100 to 140 mg per cup
while most likely you will be ingesting less caffeine from matcha than you would with coffee
they technically could have comparable levels
It is important to note that the caffeine in matcha powder is digested differently than that found in coffee
caffeine from matcha slowly becomes available over time
so you should not experience jitters or caffeine crashes
you’ll find parents with their children in the playroom
artists at work and police officers popping in for a coffee
It appears Mama Lattes is fulfilling its mission
“We didn’t have a coffee shop here (in 2016)
and I felt we brought a culture,” Baker said
they’re ready to give Milton even more this March – a second location that caters to fresh food and craft coffee fueling those on the go
The two have leased a second building right down the road at 5812 Stewart St.
which will serve their drive-thru only location
Baker said creating a drive-thru experience has been on their hearts for a while
since many of their customers prefer to stay in the car while getting their coffee
whether it be because they have young children
a tight schedule or simply don’t want to fight for a parking spot
they recently started to speed the process up due to pressure from other national coffee competitors popping up within a few miles of their shop
The location they landed on felt as though it was meant to be
as it was only on the market for one day before the two snagged it
their Mama Lattes food trailer is parked proudly outside
letting the Milton community know what’s soon to come
While their original shop will continue to be a Milton staple for comfy couches
eclectic local art for sale and games of Pacman played on the old arcade machine – the drive-thru will focus on fresh food and drinks offered fast
you won’t have to choose between quality and convenience
Holcombe said you will see all the menu crowd favorites return to the new location
custom house drip coffee and creamy Mamachino on the drink menu
cheesy and magical delight when slathered with cream cheese
Mama Lattes' special seasonings and pepper jack cheese
they typically order from a local purveyor
such as baked goods from The Makery in Pace or lumpia from longtime Milton eatery
the two created Mama Lattes to give back to their community
but they couldn’t continue to grow without the support and loyalty of their customers
Baker said he wants their customers to feel like “they have skin in the game” and it was created with them in mind
They still work ahead of them in creating a fully functional kitchen in the second location but hope to get it open as soon as they can

The Crow's Nest
The Ode to my 90s is inspired by Rachel’s childhood memories of having black sesame treats at her grandmother’s home
It’s been their bestselling drink since Oct
Photo by Mahika Kukday | The Crow’s Nest
If you’ve ever worked in a commercial kitchen
can you recall a dish that was so good you wanted to declare it sold out and keep it for yourself?
Mine was black sesame ice cream.
I was a stagiaire – kitchen intern – at the Hoxton hotel in Paris
which meant I scooped that black sesame ice cream for nights in a row
sending it to innocent customers who had no idea of the wonders that were about to hit them.
“Black sesame will be my new thing.” When people inevitably ask about the niche tastes I developed while attending culinary school in Paris
“have you ever tried black sesame in a dessert?”
And I’ll get a good grade in being the mysterious French culinary school girl.
manic – joy when a specialty coffee shop opened up minutes from where I live
with a black sesame latte on the menu.
When Daycation Coffee debuted on Dr. M.L.K street, I covered the opening.
because I’ve developed a glaring bias on the matter
I think Daycation is the single greatest thing to happen to St
Pete’s food and beverage scene in a long time.
One of owner Rachel Zhang’s five signature drinks is the “Ode to my 90s.” It’s a short- iced latte with a salted black sesame cream topped with two tiny dehydrated date slices.
There are so many things that are right about this drink.
the 12 oz size is great for actually being able to taste the double shot of espresso – a frustrating rarity in the United States
Twelve is perfectly fine for iced drinks in my opinion
but when coffee shops offer me 16 oz and 20 oz cups
it makes me want to run away screaming for my mommy.
the black sesame cold foam is a true masterpiece
I can tell it’s been developed well because it’s stable and doesn’t immediately disappear into the drink
it’s a welcome departure from the espresso-syrup-milk format.
While I love a good pump of Monin syrup as much as the next gal
it’s exciting to see creative ways of incorporating flavors in coffee.
9 after three straight weeks of eating the most delicious food known to man
being surrounded by hundreds of people at any given moment and shaking my head around in every direction instead of just nodding yes or no
My first stop after getting back to the ‘Burg was of course
and settled in to the window-side high chairs with my familiar black sesame latte.
Anyone who’s moved abroad will understand the feeling
cold realization of leaving your home country after a visit
Because it doesn’t fully feel like home anymore
and why is it that this black sesame latte suddenly does
Why are both places so wholly comforting and simultaneously so jarringly foreign?
These were the thoughts running through my mind as I sipped my latte and stared into the grey Sunshine City sky from inside the coffee shop.
I was standing on the precipice of my last semester of university
LinkedIn hadn’t become my most frequently visited website (truly
I couldn’t stop thinking about the immense meaning that the last semester of undergrad held.
homesickness and crippling ambition hold permanent territory in my brain
I also absolutely adore my college and almost everyone I’ve met here
so it’s tough to look at them without constantly thinking about how we’re probably going to be in different cities
countries and continents in four short months.
But the job has to be worth moving across the world for
But don’t enjoy so much that you lose focus
But don’t forget that you’ll never get the college experience back
But make sure to spend time with the people right in front of you
saying goodbye and doing it all over again on a whole new piece of Earth rock
I finished my black sesame latte and realized that at only 22 years old
I couldn’t shake the feeling that the end of my college career meant the death of my most carefree years.
Am I doomed to a life of leaving trite compliments on acquaintances’ LinkedIn’s?
And if my youth will die at the end of the semester
You will soon find that I’m optimistic to a fault
And I hope you’ll join me here while I share my favorite meals
unwanted opinions and life experiences.

Atlanta United has a new designated player in center forward Emmanuel Latte Lath
Latte Lath will look to bring his ferocious goal scoring to Atlanta
The Ivory Coast international touched down in Atlanta this week and his introduction has been
Latte Lath toured Mercedes-Benz Stadium and the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Training
here are 17 quick questions we asked to get to know Atlanta United’s latest acquisition:
How they spoke to me and how I can be important
I got really excited because I saw myself and thought I could do something big
You landed and immediately took tours of the facilities – the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Training Ground and Mercedes-Benz Stadium
you don’t find many facilities like this one
English is just one of five languages you speak
How did you learn to master so many languages
so we can teach each other a lot and you speak it
I was born in Ivory Coast so that’s my mother language
Italian because I grew up there since I was eight years old
what’s one of your favorite phrases to speak
Chief Soccer Officer & Sporting Director Chris Henderson has noted the importance of designated players
I can be a leader without being a captain because I like to help my teammates
and you need to understand how to speak with your teammates because it’s easy to say something and maybe they take it the wrong way and to make peace offering to each other
Try to be calm and understand what they try to tell you
I can see myself in leadership about communication with the team
What brings you the most joy out of playing soccer
You’ve lived all over the world on a few different continents
But my real home is Ivory Coast because I have everything there
What was your earliest childhood soccer memory
I started playing with my friend on the ground in the street without boots
I miss a little bit this type of football because it was free
I don’t like to be too serious because I don’t want to put too much pressure on myself
What number will you be wearing for Atlanta United
There’s a nine and a one because I hope that I will be the first one [at the No
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received
And the advice my mom gave me was to never
Just keep the good thing until you will see slowly
but what’s been the most memorable moment of your soccer career so far
For me to be 18 years old in school with the biggest team in Italy is a memory I’ll never
because I remember the emotion I had when I scored
is there an aspect of Atlanta culture you’re looking forward to checking out
If you weren’t playing professional soccer
I think I would be a mechanic because I studied this a lot
You said you were in awe of seeing Mercedes-Benz Stadium for the first time
How do you imagine it will be once it’s filled with supporters for the home opener on February 22
and I think the environment will be massive
what else do you want the 17s to know about you
and I can’t wait to see everybody at Mercedes-Benz Stadium

warm-spiced beverages that you can find at many chain and local coffee shops alike
You're going to see some range in the flavors
In the past, I've pitted Dunkin' and Starbucks in head-to-head comparisons with beverages like hot chocolate and macchiatos
I wanted to see which brand makes a better chai latte
to get a feel for the scope of the flavors
Starbucks usually comes out on top in comparisons
so it made sense to see how the chai lattes from each chain fared
If you've ever wondered whether one chain's drink is better than the other
I will cover what a chai latte is as well as the price of each drink and its availability
Then I'll dive into the taste test of the four beverages I sampled and round out with my final thoughts
but most chain coffee shops aren't taking that extra time to simmer and steep the fresh spices and tea together to create the marvelously aromatic concoction
now that we've gotten that background out of the way
I purchased my beverages in the San Diego area
The Starbucks grande hot chai latte cost $5.25
and the grande iced chai latte from there was $5.45
The medium Dunkin' hot chai latte was $4.99
and the medium iced chai latte from the chain was $5.19
While Starbucks was more expensive on both fronts
These drinks are widely available and not seasonal
which means that you can get them any time of the year
The Dunkin' hot chai latte is made with whole milk and chai tea syrup
The syrup is made with brewed chai tea extract
The description on the Dunkin' website says the chai spice is a blend of cinnamon
but it doesn't specify that in the ingredients
While the drink does have some spice to it
and the color was an almost barely there shade of pink in comparison to the Starbucks version
My Dunkin' drink was served in a holiday cup
But if you order it during other times throughout the year
you'll likely find it in a standard white cup with the orange-colored Dunkin' logo
The medium hot chai latte at Dunkin' has 290 calories
and an estimated 105 milligrams of caffeine
The iced chai latte from Dunkin' has the same ingredients list as the hot one
It had the same pink-ish color as the hot chai latte
but it's more noticeable because of the clear plastic cup
The shade is also discernable when you compare the Starbucks and Dunkin' iced drinks side by side
The Dunkin' iced chai latte was very light in color
which correlates with the level of milkiness
You can taste some of the chai spice flavors
especially if you let the liquid sit on your tongue for a moment before swallowing
The sweetness and milkiness make up most of the tasting notes
I could taste the milk because Dunkin' uses whole milk
Your best bet is to drink it quickly or opt for a smaller size
The iced chai latte has the same nutrition facts as the hot chai latte
Starbucks makes its hot chai latte with steamed 2% milk
This is a chai tea concentrate consisting of water
you can smell the light aroma of the spices — not overly fragrant but more perceptible than the Dunkin' hot counterpart
This drink had a foamy top and was warmer than the Dunkin' drink (even though I picked up my Starbucks order several minutes before my Dunkin' one)
which is more watered down than whole milk; I found that the milk taste was more mellow in this drink than the Dunkin' one made with whole milk
The 16-ounce grande hot chai latte has 240 calories
The Starbucks iced chai latte is a simplified version of the hot drink
The cup had a little hole to sip out of rather than the straw offered at Dunkin'
you sometimes get pieces of ice stuck in the opening
That made for an odd beverage-drinking experience
I had to slurp up the ice or shake the cup to loosen it
The drink was a little darker in color and a smidge less sweet than the Dunkin' version
While the Starbucks iced chai latte has some spice notes
it's hard to distinguish a specific one as nothing is especially prominent
faced the same fate as the Dunkin' iced quencher with it becoming less flavorful as the ice melted
The drink has nearly the same nutrition facts as the hot Starbucks chai latte but with 4 grams of fat
these four chai lattes were all quite similar with a barely-there spice and tea taste
I love the ritual of sipping on a morning beverage but didn't get that sense of satisfaction from any of these drinks
but the flavors of all of the beverages were pretty mild
as the ice contributed to a more watered-down taste
I could tell the difference between the brands when sipping them side by side
I wouldn't be able to distinguish which brand was which if not for the cups

but decently priced latte in DC might seem like a Herculean task
please don’t succumb to a 7-Eleven coffee (or wind up springing for an $8 latte that isn’t even that good)
Though the base prices of these lattes may not seem all that different from the competition—Elle
but tacks on $1 for non-dairy milk and $1.50 for syrup— a difference of a few bucks can add up if your caffeine fix is a daily habit
I searched for a standard 12-ounce hot (or 16-ounce iced) latte for under $5
Any upcharges for non-dairy milks couldn’t tip the price over that limit
It’s clear that this Adams Morgan spot puts care into each item on its menu—from homemade pastries to espresso drinks made with Ecuadorian coffee
Its latte costs $4.50 and the shop doesn’t charge extra for non-dairy milk
which means you can add in a house-made syrup like lavender/honey or salted caramel and still stay under $5
it brings me joy to add this Charm City coffee shop to the list
Zeke’s opened a second roastery in DC in 2013

Iced lattes add about 25 cents to your total

Elmo’s for charging 99 cents to add oat milk (or 50 cents to add soy
because the standard-size lattes cost a low $3.89
What this Palisades coffee shop lacks in Metro accessibility
with a 50-cent addition for non-dairy milk
syrups in flavors like lavender/vanilla or mocha only cost 23 cents more
Last week, our digital editor Brianna Schubert and I were both stopped by a particular post on Instagram: a new experimental coffee drink on the menu at Discourse café
Discourse makes drinks with more conventional ingredients and also with things you wouldn’t naturally associate with coffee
Dystopian Nostalgia is the name of one of those offbeat offerings
It’s a coffee with flamed rosemary served with a very literal interpretation of the nostalgic snack
and we are so absolutely here for it!” In the photo
I just have had extremely limited experience with their usage
I’ve had grasshopper pulverized to fine dust and used as a topping for a fish dish
insects are and have long been part of the diet of other cultures on this earth
Science tells us there are great nutritional benefits to eating these organisms
we will likely need to turn to them more widely as a food source
So it’s mid-afternoon and I’m at the Discourse location at Radio Milwaukee
my order is called out and I carry it gingerly to my table
It’s a work of art – a small oval tray with a little handle-less mug of hot
creamy goat milk latte next to an upside-down shot glass
is the Ants on a Log: a short celery stick topped with a thick smudge of golden beet miso caramel and sprinkled with what are clearly identifiable
I ask if the ants were sourced from anywhere specific
The first part that (sorry) bugs me is there is no subtlety
The barista tells me to take a sip of the coffee
I’m determined to eat it in just two bites
shredded wheat-like crunch that rubs against the roof of my mouth
The flavor of saline is almost imperceptible against the very sweet caramel
The other half of the log is staring me in the face
A few sips of latte and I pop the rest of it into my mouth
I remember being both fascinated and also definitely disturbed by the colonies of ants engineering their mounds and hills with such order and precision
my unease with this particular species of bug
Give me just the right insect and that’ll be my new protein source
And I’m not sure I’ll ever look at a celery stick the same way again
Ronny Deila told the city to get on board the fast-moving
A high-speed train arrived Tuesday in the form of an epic designated player signing
the club announced adding Emmanuel Latte Lath
fast forward from Middlesbrough FC of the English Football League Championship
He will fill a designated player spot for Atlanta United
The contract for the Ivory Coast international is through the 2028 MLS season with an option for 2029
There’s one clear word to describe the kind of player Latte Lath is:
Latte Lath’s speed jumps right off his highlight reel. In fact, Atlanta United’s chief soccer officer & sporting director Chris Henderson said Latte Lath might be one of the fastest players in Major League Soccer
The center forward moves swiftly up and down the pitch
He has the kind of acceleration that can outlast defenders and make rapid runs in behind
He’s also crafty and highly skilled in tight spaces
Latte Lath can keep the ball at his feet and turn to face goal
sometimes putting a shot on goal when one might expect another dribble
That quick last step can fool defenders and sneak some shots from inside the box
“He’s a forward with excellent pace and good goal-scoring instincts,” Henderson said
“His ability to stretch the field will add another dimension to our attack.”
Teams in the English Football League Championship
compete for promotion to the English Premier League
Latte Lath led his team in scoring in 2024-25 and was tied for the third-most goals in the Championship
Of his 11 goals for Middlesbrough this season
four came from his left foot and six with his right
The superb header that he scored against Leeds United in 2023 was nominated for Goal of the Month
Latte Lath has a key quality the front office at Atlanta United looks for with new signings: players entering the prime of their careers
And Latte Lath seems ready to break through
he’s entering the prime years of his career and has already shown his goal-scoring ability in multiple leagues in Europe,” Henderson said
Even before making his senior team debut for Atalanta as a 17-year-old
Latte Lath has scored everywhere he’s been – in Italy during his youth career at Atalanta when he finished with 20 goals in 25 matches in one season on the way to winning two titles with the squad
in the Swiss Super League when he recorded 14 goals and four assists as a member of St
and at his most recent professional stop in England at Middlesbrough FC
Latte Lath scored 29 goals in 67 appearances across all competitions for Middlesbrough
His career-best was 2023-24 when he finished with 16 and added another two in the EFL Cup
Since the start of last season in the Championship
Latte Lath ranks in the top six in several categories compared to other center forwards with at least 1800 minutes played:
His rising star power and steady stream of goal-scoring success led to his first international callup and appearance for his home country Côte d'Ivoire in the World Cup qualifiers last summer
Atlanta United entered the offseason with two designated player spots open
they filled both spots with two scintillating attackers
On January 30, the club announced the return of Miguel Almirón
the Atlanta United legend who was part of the inaugural roster and the group that lifted the MLS Cup trophy in 2018
energetic player who arrived to Atlanta from Europe
As designated players, Almirón and Latte Lath will be in positions to lead, which was an emphasis for Henderson since the longtime executive joined the club this offseason
Henderson noted the importance of getting the designated player signings right
explaining that those players will be expected to produce for Atlanta and set the tone for the rest of the group
Latte Lath possesses another quality that will help him lead the team in a unique way
Latte Lath is multi-lingual and can speak an impressive five languages (English
With other players who speak those languages on the squad
Latte Lath will be a centerpiece of connection on the pitch and off
as he also symbolizes the diverse makeup of his new city
