Far from the excesses of the Court of Versailles, Gianluca Jodice 's new film Le Déluge presents Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette in a historical drama at the height of the French Revolution
Played by Guillaume Canet and Mélanie Laurent
we witness the fall of the royal couple and the end of absolute monarchy
Le Déluge will be released in cinemas from December 25, 2024
Louis XVI and his wife Marie-Antoinette are arrested and taken to the Tour du Temple dungeon
the King's valet who remained with him until his death
The film, in theaters December 25
including Mélanie Laurent and Guillaume Canet
to ensure a physique resembling that of Louis XVI
a transformation that required no less than 4 hours' work every morning
Gianluca Jodice'sLe Déluge, a Franco-Italian creation, is only the director's second film. It's a complex subject, little interpreted on screen, as viewers have often been accustomed to seeing depictions of the lives of Marie-Antoinette and Louis XVI at the Court of Versailles rather than at the Temple Prison
After a failed escape to Austria in June 1791 (the famous Varennes flight)
the royal family found themselves imprisoned in the Temple prison
Louis XVI was tried and guillotined in January 1793
after being transferred to the Conciergerie
The king's valet Cléry escaped the Terror by fleeing abroad after the king had been guillotined
and his work "Journal de ce qui s'est passé à la tour du Temple pendant la captivité de Louis XVI"
helped to reconstruct this moment in history
This part of the story of Marie-Antoinette and Louis XVI was interesting to explore
and we're delighted not to see yet another version of Marie-Antoinette 's life at court
underscoring the well-chosen settings of this dark period
Guillaume Canet 's transformation is so impressive that we forget he was chosen to play Louis XVI
We have before us a vision of a mediocre but endearing man
disappointed by her husband's inability to do anything
While the story may deserve a few more twists and turns
it nonetheless tries to be in line with historical reality
in which the suffering of the royal family grips our hearts from start to finish

Qualifying results from the 2024 French Moto2 Grand Prix in Le Mans
where Canet pushed through pain for pole position
saw an incredible run against the odds bringing pole position to Aron Canet in Le Mans
The Fantic Racing rider started the weekend either limping or on crutches in the pits
having found managing the aftermath of his Jerez crash hard
Pushing through the pain barrier he needed to go through Q1 after finishing practice in 16th
where he was just under 0.8s off the new record best
The time on track helped the #44 perfect his lines
and with three minutes left the Spaniard moved from third to provisional pole
where he stayed with his lap of 1m 35.037s
Championship leader Joe Roberts picked up the pace and was lucky to miss all the late yellow flags to post a lap within 0.136s of Canet
It is the American Racing rider’s first front row start this season
The final front row spot went to Sergio Garcia
only to see that lap aboard his MT Helmets - MSI bike slip to fourth
returning to climb back to third just before the chequered flag to be the top Boscoscuro on the grid
Albert Arenas was fourth quickest and had a quiet
under the radar session for Gresini until after the flag
when Filip Salac crashed into the back of his bike as the duo were looking at the final timings on a track side screen
The lap record had already been beaten on Friday
with the P2 morning Moto2 session seeing Manuel Gonzalez take it to the first sub 1m 35 lap of the historic track for the class with a new best of 1m 34.868s
They could not repeat the feat in qualifying with Lopez fifth fastest as the top Speed Up rider
ahead of Gonzalez in sixth on the second QJMotor Gresini entry
Izan Guevara was boosted by his good run in Q1 and went on to take a much improved seventh
his best qualifying performance since moving up to Moto2 for Aspar
Senna Agius held eighth on the Husqvarna after coming through Q1
only losing two places after his fall in the session
came across an angry Barry Baltus on track early on
convinced he was wronged by Lopez slowing ahead for an in-lap
The RW rider was so busy remonstrating that he inadvertently did the same to Arbolino
That left him over seven seconds of the pace of the rest.
Arbolino then had trouble restarting his bike in the pits before he eventually returned to the track and got to within 0.8s of the pole time
his hopes dashed by a fall which sent gravel flying all around the corner he crashed at
but the repairs needed were too big for the time remaining
but a run of late laps has pushed his Folladore Speed Up back to eleventh
The MotoGP bound Spaniard had constant company from Baltus but was unfazed and regrouped for a final time attack
but it hit yellow flags on track for Agius
Initially Aldeguer was pushed back to 15th before more riders suffered the same fate
Zonta van den Goorbergh was knocked out of the final Q2 slot in P2 by his RW Idrofoglia Racing GP teammate
Having come close it was no surprise to see the Netherlands rider move on with the top time
who continued to impress in his first full season as the moved his Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact bike to the second session
Darryn Binder just missed out despite late improvement
There was a further early fall at the start of Q2 for Marcos Ramirez (18th)
but a technical issue saw him stopped near pit lane on his way to 17th
Celestino Vietti arrived at Le Mans but was not declared fit to continue
so the Red Bull KTM Ajo team were a man down in France
Alex Escrig began practice but withdrew from the after affects of his injuries
Jorge Navarro (26th) was given the call overnight by the Klint Forward Factory Team and arrived in time for the Saturday sessions
Bo Bendsneyder was announced not to be racing early
Daniel Munoz (24th) was brought in as his replacement at the Gas Up team
Idemitsu Honda Team Asia’s Mario Aji missed the round to recover from arm pump surgery but was not replaced

was the highlight of Moto2 qualifying at Le Mans
with the Fantic Racing rider securing pole position for Sunday’s race
Senna Agius and Izan Guevara had secured their place in Q2
it now remained to be seen who would be the fastest in this Le Mans qualifying in the intermediate class
Alonso López and Filip Salac were the first to top the timesheets
with almost half of the drivers yet to record a fast lap
Manuel González meanwhile recorded the best lap so far in 1:35.453s
the drivers headed to their teams’ garages to prepare for the final assault on times and pole position
Tony Arbolino still didn’t show a competitive time
the rider who won last year’s Moto2 GP in France
Áron Canet meanwhile moved to the front of qualifying with just over two minutes to go
while Sergio García made his way to the front row
but something happened and the #54 lost a lot of time
it was Canet who secured pole position in Moto2
with Roberts and García joining him on the front row of the grid
Many of the times achieved at the end were canceled out due to the yellow flag on the circuit
Manuel González dominated the Moto2 Spanish GP
The Spaniard didn't give the competition a chance
with the fight behind him especially livening up..
The pole position holder for Moto2 at the Spanish GP has been determined
with Manuel González finishing as the fastest and thus will start from the most coveted..
Deniz Öncü was the fastest in the second free practice of the Moto2 Spanish GP
setting a new category lap record at the Jerez circuit: 1m39.564s
Manuel González was the fastest in the Moto2 practice session of the Spanish GP
which took place at the Circuito de Jerez Ángel Nieto
Deniz Öncü started the Moto2 Spanish GP on top in the first free practice
held this morning at the Circuito de Jerez Ángel Nieto under normal conditions

Despite being a key figure in French cinema
the actor and director has a reputation in the business as a control freak
but at the age of 50 has at last discovered how to let go
By Vanessa Schneider
Guillaume Canet at the Les Jardins du Faubourg hotel in Paris on July 24 ALINE DESCHAMPS FOR « LE MONDE » We thought our invitation had been clear
that he should suggest a spot convenient for him and choose the drinks
But Guillaume Canet arranged to meet us at a hotel bar in which he'd never before set foot
We're assuming he asked the publicity agents handling the release of his latest film – Just Philippot's Acide
in cinemas September 20 – to make the arrangements
in an intimate parlor with thick carpets and banquettes upholstered in taupe velvet
feeling like we were in a nightclub at 2 am
When we arrived the actor was holding a glass of red wine and posing for the camera
flashing his irresistibly boyish and dimpled smile
"This is making my head spin," he said to the photographer
He didn't know what to order but thought "as an aperitif it would look the part"
A different drink was waiting on a table to the side
a non-alcoholic cocktail a friend had introduced him to
He made us taste it and it was good – fresh and seasonal
There were variants he told us: "le machin" ("the whatsit")
and also "le truc" ("the doodad") with apple
and then a combination "machin truc" with gin

"It's certainly one of the strongest adventures I've had the chance to experience"..
That's how Guillaume Canet talks aboutEdouard Bergeon's film Au nom de la terre
in which he plays the lead role and which hits cinemas on September 25
The film takes a hard-hitting look at 40 years of farming in France
and a sector that has been in difficulty for decades
Les Fantômes d'Ismaël...) and Yona Kervern
Edouard Bergeon hits the nail on the head with his poignant and moving film Au nom de la terre
masterfully interpreted by Guillaume Canet at the height of his talent
aptly interpreted both in the moments of joy shared with the family and in the phases of distress
You're carried away by the story of thousands of farmers in France
They try to provide for their families and fight every day to give their children a better future
Au nom de la terre is a striking and touching film
After making a big impression in 2021 with his debut feature La Nuée
French director Just Philippot is at it again with his second film
which was released to the public on September 20
and establishes himself in the Pantheon of the best French-speaking genre filmmakers
Here's a look back at a nightmarish thriller that kept us on the edge of our seats from start to finish
Like La Nuée, Acide is also a fantastic film about nature and climate change. After a punchy introductory sequence, we meet Michal, played by Guillaume Canet
his ex-wife Élise(Laetitia Dosch) and their daughter Selma(Patience Munchenbach)
A dysfunctional family facing an unprecedented catastrophe: a deadly acid rain storm
And what a wonderful idea for a genre film
filmmaker Just Philippot manages to deploy an impressive
Philippot is perfectly at ease staging moments of panic and chaos
and the first rain sequence is a veritable nightmare with no escape
the director has no trouble renewing both his direction and his script
Each scene of tension and horror focuses on a different facet of these deadly rains
and Philippot knows exactly how to pace his sequence to make it work at its best
And Rob' s brilliant soundtrack adds to the chills felt throughout the film
Just Philippot is definitely one of the filmmakers to keep an eye on for all genre film fans

Aron Canet started the 2024 Moto2 French Grand Prix from pole position, after he came through Q1 on Saturday, still in pain from the broken ankle he sustained in practice for the Moto2 Spanish Grand Prix
and instead it was a management masterclass from Sergio Garcia that took victory in Le Mans
Canet went completely backwards at the start
Some chaos in the Dunlop chicane on the first immediately gave Garcia a 0.7-second lead over Joe Roberts
who had gone in a different direction from the rest of the front runners by choosing the medium-compound front tyre
It was clearly not working out early on for Roberts
who was unable to make ground on Garcia ahead or the group behind
In that group were Alonso Lopez and Aron Canet who both soon showed themselves to have the best pace other than Garcia
Canet's charge through was remarkable: from 11th after turn three on the first lap
Then he passed Roberts for second on lap seven
by which time Garcia had opened 1.7 seconds
It was a case of management from there for Garcia
who was ultimately unchallenged on the way to his second win of the season
Canet's pace started to drop with six laps to go
A mistake from the #21 on the next lap at turn three backed Canet up into Ai Ogura
who had come from 17th on the grid to now fight for the podium
but Ogura took third place at turn five on the final lap
when Canet lost the rear trying to defend his position on the exit of the chicane
when Joe Roberts forced his way through and pushed Canet out wide and down to sixth
There was no retaliation from either Canet or Lopez
the former finishing sixth and the latter holding onto the final podium spot despite a late attack from Roberts at the final corner
Lopez' third place behind the MT Helmets MSI duo of Garcia and Ogura made it the first-ever Boscoscuro podium lockout of a Moto2 Grand Prix
ahead of Somkiat Chantra who benefited when Canet went wide at turn eight to take fifth place
Fermin Aldeguer never had the pace of the front runners and finished seventh
