ever series victory yesterday in an action-packed season finale at Portimao This year’s final outing generated a dramatic end to a dramatic season with two Safety Cars and four Full Course Yellows during the 110-minute race The #85 R-ace GP Duqueine led the championship coming into the encounter but an extra 42 seconds on the mandatory pitstop and then a Safety Car period at the wrong time dropped Fabien Michal and Hadrien David to 14th and out of contention didn’t have a clean race after recieving a 10-second penalty meaning Droux had to take the chequered flag at least 10 seconds ahead of the seventh placed car to take the championship a late Full Course Yellow to recover the stranded #99 More Motorsport Ligier gave Droux the breathing room he needed to secure the title with fourth place went to the #77 Ligier of Audunn Gudmundsson and Colin Noble fielded by Islandic outfit Team Thor it was a victory that has felt like a long time coming The #7 Ligier of Tony Wells and Wayne Boyd (Nielsen Racing) ended up second while the #20 of Jens Moller and Tommy Foster took third place which also secured them an identical position in the final championship standings the pressure was off AF Corse’s #51 duo of Matt Kurzejewski and Alessandro Balzan But that didn’t prevent them from pushing as the pair combined for their fourth win of the season underlining their championship winning season with a perfect weekend in Portimao Starting from pole the #51 Ferrari was passed by the #90 Blackthorn Aston Martin of James Swift and the #12 Kessel Racing Ferrari of David Fumanelli after the Italian had started at the back of the grid After the first Safety Car period Kurzejewski went back up to second place ahead of the Aston Martin After the second Safety Car and the pitstops the #12 Kessel Racing Ferrari was leading by nearly 90 seconds but with bronze driver Frederic Jousset in the car Balzan – then in the #51 Ferrari – started to close the gap A spin for Jousset reduced the gap further and with 10 minutes of the race remaining Balzan took the lead to win the race ahead of the #88 sister AF Corse Ferrari of Custodio Toledo and Riccardo Agostini which was enough to secure them the ‘vice champions’ position with the #12 Kessel Racing Ferrari taking third RACE RESULT >> Author: © 2023 dailysportscar.com. After suggesting Les Républicains consider agreements with Le Pen’s party in 2018 this native of Orange ended up joining the Rassemblement National list for the European elections in 2019 He was top of the electoral list for PACA in the 2021 regional elections Mariani is well known and well rooted in the region particularly in Vaucluse: he was for a long time a councillor of the department and has been mayor of Valréas he was a regional councillor for PACA and then served as minister for transport during the presidency of Nicolas Sarkozy As head of the electoral list in the regional elections, Mariani offered the Rassemblement National a veneer of respectability part of a process of rehabilitation of the party initiated by Marine Le Pen since she became leader in 2011 Mariani did not win PACA as expected in the 2021 regional elections, which were marked by record high levels of abstention, but by his presence alone, he contributed to a growing feeling that the far-right is no longer taboo or repellent in France his failure will give the Rassemblement National pause for thought ahead of the 2022 presidential poll Has the party hit a ceiling for electoral success Have other parties successfully found a way to block it from winning in the second round of elections The ranks of the far-right challengers are filling up and risk splitting Le Pen’s vote in France though the region remains a bastion for the Rassemblement National it is not the indispensable base many had thought before the regional elections It seems the points of weakness are multiplying for the Le Pen Martin will run an all-British line-up in one of its Valkyrie AMR-LMHs at the Le Mans 24 Hours and across the full World Endurance Championship this season The double Le Mans class winner Harry Tincknell, who was announced as part of The Heart of Racing Hypercar class line-up last November will be joined by 2018 McLaren Autosport BRDC Young Driver Tom Gamble for the full campaign.  Long-time Aston factory driver Ross Gunn will join them in the #007 entry for Le Mans in June and other selected races.  Gamble and Gunn were revealed on Wednesday along with the full line-up for Aston’s return to the pinnacle of sportscar racing for the first time since 2011 in both the WEC and North America’s IMSA SportsCar Championship The announcement was accompanied by the first images of the Valkyrie Le Mans Hypercar in its WEC and IMSA liveries The full-season partner in #009 for Alex Riberas, who was revealed along with Tincknell last year, will be Marco Sorensen a two-time WEC GTE Pro title winner with Aston.  They will be joined by Roman De Angelis for Le Mans De Angelis will be partnered by Gunn for THOR’s single-car IMSA campaign which kicks off with the Sebring 12 Hours on 15 March.  the chance to field an all-British car at Le Mans was a fantastic opportunity,” said Adam Carter head of endurance motorsport at Aston.  “When the names went down on paper and we started to arrange them Carter acknowledged that all the drivers in addition to Gunn and Sorensen have existing links with Aston and THOR.  Tincknell won the 2020 GTE Pro class at Le Mans in a Vantage GTE and has long been contracted to Multimatic Motorsports a key partner in the Valkyrie programme.  Gamble contested three IMSA long-distance races with THOR in a GT Daytona class Vantage in 2022 while Riberas and De Angelis have driven for the team since its first season of competition in 2020.  Carter confirmed that Gunn and De Angelis will join the two WEC crews for the season-opening Qatar round on 28 February.  He outlined an intent for THOR to contest the regular six-hour races that the plan could evolve through the season - there is only one clash between WEC and IMSA.  The V12-powered non-hybrid Valkyrie has so far completed upwards of 15,000km (9,000 miles) of testing since it hit the track in July.  Testing began in Europe before a second car came on stream in North America in October.  Carter expressed satisfaction with the mileage undertaken.  “We have completed sufficient endurance relative to this stage in the programme and we will continue to ascertain the need for further development mileage as the programme evolves,” he said Asked about Aston’s plans for endurance simulations ahead of Le Mans on 14/15 June he stated: “We are approaching the demands of doing Le Mans with the necessary preparation.” It is known that Aston and THOR will remain at the Sebring International Raceway after round two of the IMSA series to put further mileage on the Valkyrie.  From Because conflicts and war seem to pursue our hero If this trailer does not reveal much of the story of Thor: Love and Thunder, it at least reveals the main characters and the atmosphere of the film. Natalie Portman (Jane Foster) and Tessa Thompson (the Valkyrie) reprise their roles, as well as the entire Guardians of the Galaxy team we discover an intriguing shot of Jane Foster Thor (Chris Hemsworth) embarks on an unprecedented quest But his retreat is interrupted by the appearance ofGorr the Butcher (Christian Bale) a galactic killer whose mission is to exterminate the gods Thor teams up with Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) Korg (Taika Waititi) and his ex-girlfriend who - much to his surprise - wields her hammer our heroes embark on a harrowing cosmic adventure to try to pinpoint the causes of Gorr's relentlessness it should be noted: Thor is the first superhero of the Marvel saga to have his fourth solo movie A film that does not take itself seriously and pushes absurd humor to its limits with a Thor who can sometimes seem downright silly Taika Waititi continues to deconstruct the clichés of the all-muscle superhero to give an interesting depth to his characters weakened by the ordeals of his previous adventures He is looking for a new purpose in his life although the film continues to hide this sensitivity behind walls of jokes The antagonist of this story is also interesting although his actions are highly reprehensible which reminds us of the Boogeyman of our childhood Even if the humor is very present in the film with a masterful staging of the photography We particularly appreciate these new universes in which Marvel seems to want to engage we will simply say that the universe is growing and that the characters and the possibilities presented are very attractive.. Speaking at the BFI & Radio Times Television Festival, Hiddleston praised John le Carré’s original novel (from which the series takes its name), in particular how central character hotelier-turned-spy Jonathan Pine was described. Now, yes, it is an actor’s jobs to cement a myriad of lines into their memory banks. But to still remember a description not in the script almost two years after filming? There’s no doubt about it: Hiddleston a) has a terrific memory, and b) he put a lot of thought into the character. So far, so admirable. But later in the session, Hiddleston also offered a concise analysis of Jonathan Pine. “The whole character, for me, centres on the malleability of identity,” the Thor star began. “The idea that somehow there is something blank and broken about Pine is something that is unique to him. That something is repressed in him from his military service, his tragic love affair. “All this grief has been tied up with him for so long. He’s been hiding: that’s why he’s the night manager. He hides behind the uniform, he hides behind the cover of darkness –literally. He doesn’t have a character apart from the moral compunction that Olivia Colman’s character [Angela Burr] latches onto and says ‘come and do the right thing’.” Despite Hiddleston’s fluency with the novel, meeting the author himself led to a brilliant misunderstanding. During the restaurant scene where Corky (Tom Hollander) punches the waiter, John le Carré was on set and made a cameo as an agitated diner – a little too agitated. Although the script required Hiddleston to calm the diner, le Carré improvised his lines. “I don’t know if John had read the par in the screenplay giving him direction for the scene. But he refused to be settle,” explained Hiddleston. “Like any great actor, he made me try harder to achieve my objective, which I almost didn’t achieve.” After le Carré kept on insisting that Hiddleston’s character should apologise to the beaten waiter, director Susanne Bier (who appeared alongside Hiddleston at the festival) had to speak to the author to move the scene along. But, of course, that didn’t deter Hiddleston’s admiration of the writer: “It was amazing to be in a scene with John,” he said. “It was a remarkable honour for all of us.” Tom Hiddleston is an expert on The Night Manager. And we don't just mean the TV series – the actor's memory of the novel it is based on is remarkable...
