Todd Lyons said he wanted US immigration agency to be ‘like a business’ in its deportation process The head of Immigration and Customs Enforcement said he would like the agency to implement a system of trucks that rounds up immigrants for deportation in a system similar to how Amazon delivers packages around the US “We need to get better at treating this like a business,” the acting Ice director, Todd Lyons, said. He said that he wanted to see a deportation process “like [Amazon] Prime, but with human beings”. His comments were first reported by the Arizona Mirror Lyons was one of a series of Trump administration speakers at the 2025 Border Security Expo at the Phoenix convention center. Other speakers were Trump’s “border czar”, Tom Homan, and the secretary of the US Department of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem. At around the time of the expo, the US supreme court ruled that the Trump administration may continue using the law to deport alleged gang members Homan added that it “bothers him” when judges attempt to prevent him from using the act. He also said that family detention was still “on the table” as a policy Lyons also spoke highly of other new technology being potentially implemented in the deportation process He expressed hopes that the agency could utilize artificial intelligence to “free up bed space” and “fill up airplanes” allowing Ice to deport immigrants at a quicker pace The Ice director also said that he has been working with Elon Musk’s “department of government efficiency” (Doge) for access to social security numbers to look for “voter fraud” Several speakers, Homan included, echoed the opinion of having a deportation system that is run like a business, with assurance that the Trump administration is depending on the private sector for completion of its mass deportation agenda. Many representatives from the military-industrial complex were in attendance “Let the badge and guns do the badge-and-gun stuff Trump campaigned heavily on implementing a system of mass deportation, and has spent his presidency so far attempting to deliver on his campaign promises. two before exploding for six goals during the final period en route to a 9-1 KLAA Central Division boys hockey win at Edgar Arena Teo Gomulka and Justin Alton both notched a hat trick in the victory ended the game with 1:14 remaining on the eight-goal mercy rule as the Spartans improved to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the Central a third-year varsity player and member of last year's MHSAA Division 1 state runner-up team All three of the senior's goals occurred during the final period "We weren't playing our game," Gomulka said we played Spartan hockey and we got the 'W.' Spartan hockey is hard-nosed We practice the details and it showed today." 0-1) took a head contact penalty just 2:04 into the first period Just five seconds into the Stevenson power play Alton scored off an assist from Alex Walkuski But after South Lyon took another penalty only 43 seconds later Stevenson had a five-on-three power play for 58 seconds but it backfired when Brett Cook knifed in and scored an unassisted short-handed goal at the 4:50 mark to make it 1-1 but give (South Lyon) all the credit in the world," Stevenson coach David Mitchell said We got one early and then that five-minute power play was huge They did a really nice job of disrupting what we were trying to do It was 1-1 and we tried to talk about sticking to our game plan and get a little more pucks inside and be a little more physical and strong inside I think we did a better job of it in the second and the third (periods)." Junior defenseman Connor Jakacki stuffed home a rebound 6:23 into the second period to give Stevenson the lead for keeps Julian Decina and Easton Schlatterbeck drew the assists Julian Decina perfectly timed and batted home a rebound in mid-air After outshooting South Lyon 31-8 through the first two periods starting with Alton's second of the game just nine seconds into the third from Beaune and Walkuski The Stevenson scoring parade continued with Gomulka scoring at 1:11 (from Gray and Ryan McCamant); Gomulka unassisted on a power play at 8:51; Alton at 11:30 (from Gomulka and Julian Decina); Gomulka at 15:08 (from Logan Dunham and Jacob Anderson); followed by Williamson's game-ender "I thought the first period (Stevenson) grinded on us hard and our guys competed," South Lyon coach Bill McCreary said they controlled the play and we were chasing a lot It's a learning opportunity for us and our guys We have to be more consistent and disciplined in our play and get better." Stevenson peppered SLU senior goalie Jared Paugh with an unofficial total of 49 shots "Although our goaltender is a very responsible 'I got to do better controlling rebounds,'" McCreary said our 'D' weren't tying up and we weren't smothering the rebounds." Alton and Gomulka were the biggest thorns in South Lyon's side accounting for two-thirds of Stevenson goal output on the night so it's nice to see him rewarded," Mitchell said "Teo Gomulka is a kid who has all the ability to score goals because I challenged him a little between periods and challenged him to be a little stronger on pucks and He accepted the challenge and took it like any real competitor does He took it a little personally upon himself that he had to be better to help his team and that he did." South Lyon took a total of seven penalties including one five-minute major for kneeing and two others for too many men on the ice "I was really proud of our effort for about half the game," McCreary said "We still need to do better staying out of the box We played half of that first period short-handed You can't play a top team and compete when you're doing that." Stevenson starting goalie Will Tragge played into the third period before backup Derek Dudek came on to finish the game with 5:53 left "We're always a work in progress," Mitchell said "We're still a younger team that needs to grow We focus on a process to try and get better I think we got better as the game went along today and we need to continue to do that Grace VanBoven will graduate from South Lyon High School June 12 having learned some extraordinarily hard lessons already in her young life who died when Grace was just 9 years old and in fourth grade Grace’s mother lost her battle with cancer a fight that had begun when her daughter was just 7 her child showed a determination to succeed and is the winner of the 2021 Perseverance Award for a South Lyon High School graduating senior “I think my mom would be really proud of me,” VanBoven said "I will graduate in the top 10 of my class and I’m going to U of M I think she would be really proud of everything I have done so far.” which also includes her dad Andy and siblings Emma moved into the South Lyon school district when Grace was in first grade Michelle VanBoven was “incredibly caring fun to be around and the life of the party,” Grace remembers she went through six months of treatment and was then in remission but the cancer returned by the time Grace was in third grade She remembers skipping school to go see "The Lion King" in the theater with her mom the same day she had a radiation treatment for the cancer which had metastasized in its return Grace VanBoven had to grow up very quickly ensuring her own homework was done accurately without assistance “I wanted to make it easier for my parents,” she said “The priority needed to be making it better for my mom I wanted to do everything I could so I wasn’t something they had to worry about.” a month before Grace’s 10th birthday Grace had watched her mother’s fight for life for nearly three years and now faced her own challenges without her mom She didn’t want to share with others that her mother had died ‘Can your mom take us to do this?’” she recalled “I was never comfortable making it known that my mom had passed away I don’t want people to have sympathy for me I don’t want it to change people’s perspective… I still grew up in a great home It’s terrible and I wish I could change it but I don’t like people feeling bad for me.” VanBoven says school has come naturally to her and she is on track to attend medical school thanks to her “exceptional” South Lyon High economics teacher Eric Davis VanBoven had to work a little harder to overcome some shyness What got her out of her comfort zone was her job at Dick’s Sporting Goods and extracurricular activities including participation on the student council and mentoring other students as a member of the LINK Crew she wrote in her essay application for the Perseverance Award shaped in great deal by circumstances she would not choose I’ve struggled with knowing that I am enough for myself and for her… Looking back I can tell you that I do know it’s not my fault; it’s just the way the world works I will never stop trying to make her proud in anything that I do.” which selects one winner from each high school each year to honor with the Perseverance Award and the accompanying $1,000 college scholarship certainly believes Grace VanBoven is the embodiment of their award it brings us to tears to read the stories of these kids,” Rachael Showerman  “It’s difficult to choose their stories are so powerful and inspiring and one that we discuss with students is perseverance.. the day we lost our innocence,” he told reporters during the news conference “We began to rear our children differently We began to think differently about what we could do I guess there’s no way to turn that clock back but the entire region was affected by this case.” McCarthy said he will not prosecute Welch for the Montgomery County abduction of the girls at the request of John and Mary Lyon turns into a full-fledged project For Mark Lyon Lyon photographed a frozen car wash bay wall and said he was attracted to the symmetry and decor of the space he began shooting car washes in earnest around the New York Hudson Valley and New England areas eventually creating a series titled “Bay Views.” Lyon said that although he is drawn to car washes that appear to have been abandoned most of the 24-hours self-service washes he shoots are still functioning He also isn’t in a rush to make many of the images in “Bay Views.” Because he relies on natural light Lyon said he sometimes waits for years to get the shot he sets up in his mind and often revisits the location in different seasons to see how the light moves through the fog or snow “Sometimes all the elements are cooperative on the first visit but I still have a tendency to want to go back and explore what else might happen,” he said “A big part of what I’m looking for is the balance of interior and exterior light In some locations where there is an interesting view I just have to wait for the circumstances to be correct.” Shooting at night also helps to create a somewhat lonely feeling within the images and Lyon said he shoots with relatively long exposures based around “the flickering cycle of a street light or (on) traffic patterns.” “I established early on that I would not use any image that features my own cast shadow or use any image that has car light trails in it I think avoiding these elements has had the effect of creating a slower and quieter reading of the images.” Lyon’s previous series, “Landscapes for the People,” featured on Slate last year also focused on a quieter part of life: murals inside office spaces He is drawn to the passing of time in his work but said he isn’t necessarily focused on nostalgia objects and spaces that show their age,” he said “I think the ‘quietness’ in my work comes from photographing spaces designed for our interaction without any figures present; the viewer can occupy these photographic spaces and create their own visual narratives.” Olympique Lyon takes down Nice in Ligue 1Two brilliant assists from Thiago Almada finished off by Ryan legitimate campaign issue.” Prostitution is currently criminalized in the United States where prostitution is legal in the form of regulated brothels located in several rural counties throughout the
