29-15 triumph over Racing 92 in their Challenge Cup semi-final at Matmut Stadium de Gerland on Sunday Planet Rugby picks out five takeaways from the action From the outset the contrasting styles between these sides were evident as Lyon opted for an enterprising style of play in which they gave the ball plenty of air while Racing went for a more direct approach where they opted to kick more before launching attacks Lyon had a bulk of the possession during the opening exchanges and strung several phases together but failed to capitalise on those opportunities as they had no points to show for their dominance And it was Racing who eventually opening the scoring courtesy of a Tristan Tedder penalty in the 23rd minute but the hosts drew level soon after when Leo Berdeu also succeeded with a three-pointer off the kicking tee Lyon continued to hold the edge and were rewarded in the 28th minute when Vincent Rattez crossed for their opening try with Berdeu adding the extras although Racing struck back via a Diego Escobar five-pointer which meant the home side held a slender 10-8 lead at half-time The hosts came out firing after the interval and seemed to change their game-plan as they matched Racing’s direct approach and Berdeu extended their lead with another penalty in the 48th minute Beka Saginadze then crossed for a converted try which gave Lyon a 20-8 lead but Racing responded five minutes later when Kleo Labarbe crossed for his side’s second try which Tedder converted Although it was a five-point game, Lyon finished stronger as Berdeu slotted three further penalties in the final quarter to book his side’s place in this year’s Challenge Cup final against Bath Much was said in the build-up to this match about the decision from Racing 92’s head coach Patrice Collazo to select the former England international at inside centre for this encounter Although Farrell is no stranger to the midfield position he has played at fly-half in all his previous matches for the Parisian outfit It was obvious that Farrell’s selection alongside the much less experienced Dan Lancaster was to give the visitors the option of having a second playmaker in the backline but that plan backfired when he was forced off the field midway through the opening half when he failed a HIA after coming off second best while trying to tackle the impressive Mickael Guillard who was building up a head of steam with ball in hand Without Farrell’s experience and influence during the rest of the match Racing lost their way and his accurate goal-kicking was also greatly missed as Tedder was off target with some shots at goal which would usually be routine efforts for the former England skipper and if he had been on the field to slot those kicks it could have been a different story for the visitors Challenge Cup 2024/25: Finalists decided, kick-off time, venue and date confirmed Jordie Barrett decision perplexes ex-Leinster star as Irish province finds ‘another way to lose’ We’ve already mentioned the rookie France second-row as he left Farrell lying in his wake after a barnstorming run in the opening half but apart from that effort Guillard continued to be a thorn in Racing 92’s flesh during the rest of this clash The 24-year-old was on the field for the full 80 minutes and was a vital source of lineout possession for his team during that time while he also took the fight to his opponents with outstanding physicality with ball in hand and on defence The Lyon bruiser won most of the collisions in contact and led the way as his side’s forwards set an excellent platform for their backs and it was not surprising when he walked off with the official man-of-the-match award after the game While Guillard deserved his individual accolade that award could easily have gone to Lyon’s fly-half who was one of his side’s heroes in this encounter the 26-year-old was in the thick of the action as he impressed with his attacking skill set and his kicking out of hand and at goal While he did brilliantly in launching some of Lyon’s attacks during the opening half – when they opted to be more daring on attack – he also shone when kicking for territory especially after the interval when he used the boot more freely and on one of those occasions he put his side on the front foot with a brilliant 50/22 kick his goal-kicking was superb throughout as he kept the scoreboard ticking for the hosts and eventually finished with a 19-point haul after succeeding with five penalties and a couple of conversions Although Lyon were worthy winners in the end their task was made somewhat easier by their opponents whose discipline let them down at crucial stages of this match Racing 92 struggled in the scrums and they conceded a couple of penalties at the set-piece during the early stages after Lyon put plenty of pressure on them in that department The visitors’ scrummaging improved somewhat as the match progressed but they also struggled at the breakdowns where their players were also penalised for holding onto the ball or going off their feet at the rucks And despite narrowing the gap to just five points by the 55th minute after Labarbe scored his try Racing’s discipline let them down badly in the final quarter as they conceded three penalties – which were all goaled by Berdeu – as they chased the game with one of those also resulting in a yellow card for Vinaya Habosi in the 72nd minute READ MORE: Alex Mitchell hails ‘fearless’ Northampton players after Leinster ‘punched in the face’ General public tickets are still in plentiful supply for a 29-15 win at Stade Gerland Vincent Rattez and Beka Saghinadze scored a try each for the home side Leo Berdeu converted both and adding five penalties for a tally of 19 points Diego Escobar and Kleo Labarbe responded for Racing but Tristan Tedder had fewer chances off the tee and converted just one of the tries and one of his two penalty attempts went into the match in excellent home form not having lost there since November 23 since when they have won eight and drawn nine in all competitions With France international lock Mickael Guillard in imposing form in the line and in the loose Lyon always had the upper-hand although they were made to work hard Lyon took a grip on the game at the start of the second half despite being without New Zealand centre Josiah Maraku who picked up a yellow card in the 36th minute The Lyon pack stepped up a gear to secure a penalty for Berdeu two minute after the restart and then a try for Georgian back-rower Saghinadze which who lost former England captain Owen Farrell to injury after just 18 minutes clawed their way back with a try from replacement scrum-half Labarbe but another three penalties from Berdeu sent his team through to take was 15-years-old in 1943 when he left an orphanage in New Jersey to live with his sister Mosher became employed as a laborer for a coal mine where he earned the nickname “Bud,” but enlisted in the Merchant Marines at 17 and served four months before World War II ended Having the brief experience in the military at the end of World War II serving during the Korean War and Vietnam War For his heroic bravery during the Korean War battle where he was credited with killing hundreds he was awarded three Bronze Stars and the Silver Star yesterday was recommended for the Silver Star for killing 300 Chinese Reds in 15 minutes in Korea,” reported the Times Leader Evening News on May 25 The story reported Mosher was alone when he secretly entered a town surrounded by communist North Korean and Chinese soldiers and destroyed tanks and ammunition dumps before he retreated As hundreds of enemy soldiers pursued him through a narrow path guided by high cliffs “Only one could come through the pass at a time and that was where my gun was mowing them down another would take his place and meet the same end,” the Associated Press story on June 4 Mosher’s machine gun burned out and he picked up another firearm he found near him “While Mosher was firing upon the enemy the rest of his platoon covered his retreat with deadly rifle fire but the Chinese kept coming but could not overrun the Yankee positions,” reported the AP story One Army private was hit by enemy fire and Mosher used his field jacket as a stretcher to pull the injured solider to safety Mosher continued to serve during the trucks and began a slow march through rice paddies to a tree line Mosher charged at a Viet Cong machine gunner firing his AR-15 in return but was struck and killed Mosher was buried in Arlington National Cemetery Detroit — The trade was a minor surprise when it was announced shortly before the conclusion of the March 7 deadline When the Red Wings acquired goaltender Petr Mrazek (and forward Craig Smith) from Chicago for forward Joe Veleno general manager Steve Yzerman was looking to improve the Wings' depth with playoff tested veterans Cam Talbot and Alex Lyon had appeared to stabilize the position though Lyon had been battling minor injuries Mrazek struggled in a rebuilding situation in Chicago and didn't appear to be a significant upgrade Mrazek did have one more year left on his contract (as does Talbot) and with NHL goaltending costing more than ever the Wings liked the cost certainty involved The Wings were also confident a healthy Mrazek returning to the organization that drafted him and playing in a city he enjoys a potential unrestricted free agent on July 1 as the third wheel for the remainder of this season and but it's part of it and part of being a successful professional and successful goalie is being able to get through things like that mentally,” Lyon said "I've been the third goalie on the roster for my whole career It's just something that you got to deal with." joined the Wings two seasons ago as a free agent and proved himself to be an NHL-quality goaltender Lyon went 35-27-6 in two seasons with a 3.09 goals-against average and .901 save percentage but struggled in several important starts over the final six weeks Coach Todd McLellan's confidence in Lyon appeared to wane as the season progressed With Mrazek and Talbot both under contract for next season and former first-round pick Sebastian Cossa getting closer to being NHL ready Lyon likely will have better options elsewhere where a more consistent NHL job might be available "I'm happy I got to be a full-time NHL player for two years and I would like to continue to be in the NHL," Lyon said of his time with the Wings "The only thing I can do is try to keep getting better and find ways to get more consistent I wish I could have played better here and helped get us into the playoffs this year "(I'm) going to have to see the way the winds blow and there's a lot of things that are kind of out of my control But it's a great place to play and loved playing at LCA." Yzerman wouldn't rule out bringing back Lyon who had several long stretches of top-level goaltending during his Wings' tenure Lyon is also a popular teammate and is well-suited to back up "I met with Alex at the end of the season and had a very good discussion with him about a lot of things," Yzerman said We haven't had any discussions as far as a contract and that's the biggest stumbling block you look at the number of injuries that goaltenders have and I don't know what the big deal is carrying one extra goaltender He's a real good person and played at times very well for us." More: Red Wings 'need better goaltending,' still looking for workhorse to emerge The last two seasons in Detroit have been the Lyon's first prolonged Carolina and Florida before signing with the Wings Lyon's 74 games with the Wings nearly doubled the 39 games over six seasons Lyon is appreciative of the opportunity the Wings gave him and wants to build on his career and I'm going to get better; I don't feel satisfied at all," Lyon said I still want to keep improving and accomplish more I would like to accomplish more in this league and in hockey in general I just don't want to sit there and be like played a lot of NHL games.’ It just makes me hungrier and makes the fire bigger I feel like you just can't take for granted being and playing in the NHL It's difficult to get there and it's more difficult to stay I would like to continue to be in the NHL." DETROIT -- Alex Lyon has always been about staying present and true to himself so when reflecting on his past two seasons with the Detroit Red Wings the 32-year-old goalie expressed gratitude for the opportunities he received between the pipes I feel like you just can’t take for granted being in the NHL,” Lyon said in his end-of-season media session on April 19 “It’s difficult to get there and it’s more difficult to stay I’m happy I got to be a full-time NHL player for two years so a lot of things up in the air right now that are really outside the scope of my control The only thing I can do is try to keep getting better find ways to get more consistent and play better.” After setting NHL career-highs in games played (44) and starts (43) last season Lyon appeared in 30 games during the 2024-25 campaign and posted a 14-9-1 record with a 2.81 goals-against average free-agent contract with the Red Wings prior to the 2023-24 season 196-pound netminder had only played 39 career games over six NHL campaigns “I don’t feel satisfied at all,” Lyon said I still just want to keep improving and accomplish more is that I would like to accomplish more in this League and in hockey in general I just don’t want to sit there and be like I played a lot of NHL games.’ It just makes me hungrier and the fire bigger.” Lyon also described how pushing for a Stanley Cup Playoffs spot the past two seasons were important growth experiences for Detroit 4+ minutes of Alex Lyon thoughtfully answering each question. Enjoy! https://t.co/okXopWXH4J pic.twitter.com/oMkQx9tMFv “I think us as players didn’t do a good enough job maybe early in the season,” Lyon said I think the team showed really impressive fight obviously those last few games I think it’s almost inevitable that every team I think you almost have to build that in and prepare for that.” Slated for unrestricted free agency this summer Lyon said that he hasn't put much thought into his future just yet “Still kind of just wrapping things up here,” Lyon said “Just going to have to see the way the winds blow A lot of things that are kind of out Barcelona secured their final spot for a fifth successive season after Sunday’s 4-1 win at Chelsea secured an 8-2 aggregate victory. English sides have not traditionally enjoyed much success in the Women’s Champions League, with Arsenal becoming the first side since Chelsea in 2021 to reach the final, while the north London club’s success in 2007 remains the only time an English team has won the competition in its 24-year history. There was no single hero for Arsenal in a match that began with a Lyon own goal — a moment that foreshadowed an evening filled with poor defending by Lyon’s flat-footed backline. Arsenal repeatedly capitalised on Lyon’s defensive errors, the Londoners dominating while the home side failed to finish several chances in their attacking third. The first moment of brilliance for Arsenal came in first-half stoppage time through Caldentey and that momentum carried Arsenal into the second half, where they had a hot start just 31 seconds in thanks to Russo, the ball clumsily making its way through several of Lyon’s defenders. Lyon had several chances, and it seemed they could have turned things around with a stronger showing in the second half, but that hope never materialised as they slipped further into disarray with each mistake. Arsenal were the better team and one worthy of a final bout against Barcelona. Forward Foord, scorer of her side’s fourth goal, said Arsenal took confidence from their performance in the first leg against Lyon despite defeat at the Emirates — but didn’t quite expect to win the second leg in such emphatic fashion. “It’s incredible, to come into the game a goal down, I guess it didn’t faze us,” Foord told TNT Sports. “We knew what quality we had and we thought we played really well at home, to come here we just knew if we played our game we could do it. I didn’t expect it to be like that, but I’ll take that.” On the prospect of facing Barcelona, who have won the Champions League in three of the last four seasons, Foord added: “It’s going to be a tough game, it’s a final, anything can happen. We’ll obviously look forward to it and just can’t wait to take them on.” (Top photo: Alex Burstow/Arsenal FC via Getty Images) A timely equaliser right on halftime from Leny Yoro, the young centre-back's first goal for United since joining in the close season, levelled things up, before Joshua Zirkzee's late header looked to have earned the visitors a battling victory Cherki, however, capitalised on another Onana error, when the Cameroonian could only push Georges Mikautadze's shot straight out to him denying United a win to galvanise their disappointing season the Europa League has been a safe haven for United this season with Ruben Amorim's side coming into Thursday's first leg as the only team in this year's competition unbeaten The visitors started well, creating the better openings -- Danish striker Rasmus Højlund wasting a glorious early chance The pre-match discourse had been centred on the clash between Onana and former United midfielder Matic Onana had said United were "way better" than their French opponents labelling the United stopper one of the worst goalkeepers in the club's history Onana got plenty of abuse from home supporters every time he touched the ball with the glaring mistake that allowed Almada's free kick to drift all the way in not helping his cause United did not let their heads drop, however, with Yoro doing well to guide Manuel Ugarte's strike into the net with his head the centre-back becoming the club's youngest-ever defender to score in Europe United retreated in the second half, with Lyon passing up several big chances before Bruno Fernandes picked out Zirkzee to spark wild scenes of celebration before joy quickly turned to despair in stoppage time A timely equaliser right on halftime from Leny Yoro, the young centre-back's first goal for United since joining in the close season, levelled things up, before Joshua Zirkzee's late header looked to have earned the visitors a battling victory Cherki, however, capitalised on another Onana error, when the Cameroonian could only push Georges Mikautadze's shot straight out to him The visitors started well, creating the better openings -- Danish striker Rasmus Højlund wasting a glorious early chance Onana had said United were \"way better\" than their French opponents United did not let their heads drop, however, with Yoro doing well to guide Manuel Ugarte's strike into the net with his head United retreated in the second half, with Lyon passing up several big chances before Bruno Fernandes picked out Zirkzee to spark wild scenes of celebration Check out how to watch Lyon v Racing 92 in the Challenge Cup semi-finals Two French teams searching for purpose in 2024/25 collide in the Challenge Cup semi-finals this weekend Lyon and Racing 92 are struggling in the lower reaches of the Top 14 but could still salvage their campaigns with victory here Hosts Lyon won the competition in 2022 and will hope to summon that spirit again to march into the final to be staged at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff Racing 92 have never reached a Challenge Cup final as they're more accustomed to dining at Europe's top table They have featured in three Champions Cup finals since 2016 but lost them all They will hope to make amends with a slice of glory on the smaller – yet still highly significant – stage RadioTimes.com has rounded up everything you need to know about how to watch Lyon v Racing 92 on TV and online Lyon v Racing 92 will take place on Sunday 4th May 2025 Lyon v Racing 92 will be broadcast live on Premier Sports 1 Viewers can add Premier Sports to their Sky or Virgin Media TV packages or watch via the Amazon Prime Video add-on The service costs £15.99 on a monthly basis on a rolling 30-day subscription. An angel came and called my name and took me by the hand The angel said my place was ready in Heaven far above but I would have to leave behind all those I dearly love Our tomorrows have started without her and we will never be the same She was born on August 13,1959 at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge where she was a flag corps member of the Band of Blue Sherry was an active member of the Chi Omega sorority and worked in the office at Barger's Drug Store She was always known as "Renee" to family members but as "Sherry" in her school and professional positions This sometimes caused confusion for others but she was a precious and loyal friend to anyone that called her by either of her names Margaret Catholic School here in Lake Charles she would spend the next 40 years on that campus as an educator Her children attended there and then later her grandchildren She loved spending her days with young students and teaching them about her beloved Catholic faith and fellow teachers for 33 years as a full time teacher she continued to substitute teach at SMCS until the onset of her illness She was blessed to teach her grandchildren and the descendants of her former students over the years Margaret campus will always be felt and she will be greatly missed by her many peers and students Steve and Sherry spent many years following their children in St They
