Asperitas units installed in Chartres site
Crédit Agricole is using immersion cooling systems from Asperitas in its Mainvilliers data center near Chartres in France
The cooling tanks were tested in a pilot project in 2018
and are expected to reduce energy costs and environmental impact at the facility
and enable it to support a higher energy density for new applications
The bank now plans to install multiple modules in two data centers
The pilot project installed an Asperitas immersion cooling system at Mainvilliers in the data center
The unit apparently managed more than 40 percent of the bank's workload at the site
and met the reliability and performance standards
so it can now be deployed at other bank locations
During the test the system managed cooling during numerous weather fluctuations
The partial PUE (power utilization effectiveness) improved from 1.4 to 1.03 in the winter months
and only went up to 1.04 in a heat wave - a "perfect" PUE of 1.0 is impossible to achieve
the system will improve the density of the data center
with the potential to reduce replace Crédit Agricole's current 6,000 sq m (65,000 sq ft) of white space with only 150 sq m (16,000 sq ft)
“The immersion cooling solution provided by Asperitas allows us to increase the density of our data center without major work," said Jean Buet
Because the liquid-cooled units are self-contained
the upgrade will require less cooling from the data center's air conditioning units
said: “The flexibility and simplicity of the AIC24 modules make it a highly scalable solution
without having to change the environmental infrastructure
so this outcome enables Crédit Agricole’s next step in development to be quite straight-forward.”
the Asperitas system uses an immersion cooling fluid from Shell
which circulates by natural convection currents
This allows free cooling up to 48°C (118.4°F)
and captures more than 98 percent of the energy in the hot water
Shell is happy to contribute to a product that reduces emissions
and already uses Asperitas in its own HPC systems
"Shell is committed to working with our partners and customers to develop solutions that can help them decarbonize," said Sundeep Kamath
global marketing manager for process oils at Shell
“Data centers today consume about one percent of global energy demand and this is only expected to grow with exponential amounts of data being generated
This innovative solution offers increased compute performance
The multiple module installation is due before the end of 2020
and the computing solution is provided by Dell Technologies

hammer thrower and new athleteThe European Championship bronze medallist and 2024 French Hammer Throw Champion
qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games
has joined our SNCF Athletes Scheme as a customer relations agent in the Paris-Chartres area
A member of Athlé Chartres Lucé ASPTT Mainvilliers (Eure-et-Loire) since age 11, Rose Loga has enjoyed a meteoric rise as a hammer thrower, winning silver medals at the U20 European and World Championships.
Setting a personal best of 72.68 m on 10 June, 2024 at the European Athletics Championships in Rome, the athlete won the bronze medal. A performance that confirms Rose Loga is on a winning streak after her performance at the French long throw championships held in Salon-de-Provence this winter, where she landed the French Espoirs and Élites titles.
In Angers, the new SNCF athlete has won the French Championship with a 70.60 m hammer throw. Two weeks after winning at the European Athletic Championships, the 22-year old from Mainvilliers has broken new ground before the Paris 2024 Games.
These national and continental performances have enabled the young athlete to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. On 4 August 2024 at the Stade de France, she will be competing for a place in the Olympic hammer throw final, scheduled for 6 August.
“The signing of Rose Loga's work integration agreement testifies to our support to high-level athletes and our desire to promote the values of sport and excellence in our company,” said Christophe Fanichet, Chairman and CEO of SNCF Voyageurs, outside a visit to Châteauroux station, one of the stations for the Paris 2024 Games, on Wednesday June 5.

A recent study on the geological and stratigraphic context of the L’Enclos site
located in Mainvilliers (in northern France
has shed new light on human occupation in the region during the Middle Paleolithic
The research has revealed that the lithic artifacts found at the site were preserved within sedimentary colluvium accumulated over a long period in an ancient valley
This is a significant discovery that helps to better understand the dynamics of settlement and land use by Neanderthal populations west of Chartres
The excavation has recovered a total of 438 flint artifacts
which were sparsely scattered in the study area
the analysis of this lithic industry indicates the coexistence of different knapping techniques
and possibly a discoidal knapping system have been identified
These techniques fall within the technological variability that characterizes the Middle Paleolithic techno-industrial complexes in the region
The set of flake tools shows a low degree of standardization
with a prevalence of simple scrapers and the presence of some finished or fragmented bifaces
The association of Levallois knapping with bifaces has provisionally classified this industry as a possible Mousterian with bifaces
due to the surface alteration of most of the flint tools
it has not been possible to precisely determine their modes of use
and one flake have shown clear indications of use
suggesting specific functions such as fire production in the case of one of the bifaces
The techno-economic analysis of the lithic assemblage from L’Enclos
compared with an experimental corpus and other recent sites in Coulvreux (Eure-et-Loir) and Radray (Loiret)
suggests that the materials have been relocated and selected from a mixed-use site dedicated to both the production and consumption of lithic tools
the use of transportable bifacial tools made from an undetermined type of flint has been identified
without ruling out the export of supports produced in situ
The investigations have also revealed the presence of locally sourced flint blocks
characterized by their irregular morphology and their origin from geological formations situated on the limestone base of the Chartres plateau
This material would have been used by Neanderthals to manufacture tools
demonstrating an efficient use of the lithic resources available in the immediate environment
The study employed the technique of thermoluminescence on heated flint to estimate the age of Neanderthal occupations at the site
The results place human presence at L’Enclos within a broad chronological range
approximately between 57,940 and 42,820 years before the present
as it provides new evidence of Neanderthal occupation west of Chartres during the late phase of the Middle Paleolithic
the excavation has refined the geological context and the chronological-stratigraphic framework of the site
which dates back approximately 350,000 years
These data contribute to enriching knowledge about landscape evolution and human occupation dynamics in the region
offering a more detailed perspective on the mobility and subsistence strategies of Neanderthal communities in this part of central France
The discovery in Mainvilliers is part of a series of archaeological investigations aimed at better understanding the distribution and behavior of Neanderthals in Western Europe
The combination of different lithic knapping techniques at a single site
along with the presence of bifaces and percussion tools
indicates a notable technological complexity and an effective adaptation to the local environment
This study has been conducted under the direction of the National Institute for Preventive Archaeological Research (Inrap)
in collaboration with the Regional Archaeology Service of the Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs of Centre-Val de Loire
The excavation and analysis have been led by a team under the direction of Michel Brenet
with the participation of Delphine Capron and Audren Chapon in sector supervision

a customer relations agent in the Paris-Chartres area
In 2024, Rose Loga broke her personal best at the European Championships in Rome, clearing 72.68m. It was a performance that earned her the bronze medal. Our athlete is now one of the best throwers on the continent. And in June 2024, she will be living up to that status by winning the French championships with a throw of 70.60 m. These performances open the door to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where the hammer thrower hopes to shine.
In addition to her sporting achievements, on 31 May 2024 Rose Loga signed a professional integration contract (CIP) with the SNCF, joining the SNCF Athletes Scheme as a customer relations agent in the Paris-Chartres area. This CIP will enable Rose Loga to reconcile her career as a top-level sportswoman with a professional life, while benefiting from the support of our Group.
