2025A driving force in Marseille’s underground scene
Harold Boué (aka Abstraxion) curates a deeply personal playlist capturing the raw
genre-blurring energy of his city.Growing up in Marseille in the '90s meant being immersed in a unique clash of cultures
shaped my view of music as something deeply connected to the street
to survival and celebration at the same time
Even though I later moved towards electronic music
streetwise spirit has always been in my DNA — mixing genres naturally
This list is completely subjective. It’s the result of the encounters I've had in Marseille, the artists I've met, produced, and supported through my label Biologic Records, and the Encore Encore festival compilation we launched to showcase a new wave of emerging talents.
Each track here holds a personal meaning for me — a moment, a collaboration, a shared vision — and together they reflect both Marseille’s rich musical heritage and the exciting diversity shaping its future.
Fonky Family - Art de rue [S.M.A.L.L.]Growing up
"De Mars on part en croisade" — the Fonky Family voiced the struggles and dreams of a generation
Their energy and authenticity remain a deep influence on every Marseille artist today
Méga Lune was a beautiful encounter through the Encore Encore project
Faustine and Timothée fuse analog synth-driven techno with French songwriting
and full of hope — like Marseille’s sunsets
and Mediterranean warmth — something always present in the city's deeper layers
"Bass Injection" reflects my personal experience of Marseille’s underground nightlife: hypnotic
Bwi-Bwi is a vital voice in Marseille’s new generation of producers
"Retool" blends classic house grooves with a raw
futuristic edge — a sound deeply rooted in the city's independent spirit
Pristine Pit crafts tracks that are unpredictable
"Acid Dish" is a perfect soundtrack for Marseille’s restless creative energy
funky chaos into Mézigue’s raw template — exactly the kind of sweaty warehouse energy you find in the city’s best underground nights
"Alarm" bridges Marseille’s rugged daytime energy with the mystical atmosphere of its nights
Oras Elone perfectly captures that tension between intensity and dreaminess
rebellious spirit of Marseille’s underground
and playful — exactly the type of energy that keeps the city’s scene thriving and unpredictable
sensual energy of Marseille’s summer nights
when the city becomes a giant open-air dance floor

Fabian Ruiz scored the only goal of the game as Paris Saint-Germain edged out Toulouse 1-0 in Ligue 1 on Saturday to stay 10 points clear at the top of the table from Marseille
Spain midfielder Ruiz was on hand to net the rebound after a Willian Pacho header struck the bar seven minutes into the second half in the southwest of France
That gave PSG the victory on an awkward evening as coach Luis Enrique made six changes to his side with the game coming in-between the two legs of their Champions League knockout playoff tie against Brest
who had netted 18 times in his last 11 appearances
was left on the bench at kick-off along with the likes of Vitinha and captain Marquinhos
First-choice goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma was rested altogether
Lucas Beraldo had a shot turned onto the post in the first half for PSG
not least from an early Charlie Cresswell header from which the young Englishman should have done better
PSG remain unbeaten domestically since losing at home to Toulouse last May and now go into Wednesday's return match against Brest leading 3-0 from the first leg
the last 16 of the Champions League in clear sight
This is a round of league games in-between two Champions League matches in which you can easily slip up," said Luis Enrique
New signing Amine Gouiri scored twice for Marseille as Roberto De Zerbi's side cruised to victory against a struggling Saint-Etienne side who occupy the relegation playoff position
Algerian international Gouiri had impressed in his first two games since joining Marseille from Rennes late in the January transfer window
but he had not scored for his new club until Saturday's match at the Velodrome
He opened his account to give OM a single-goal lead at the interval
before Mason Greenwood made it 2-0 from a penalty five minutes into the second half
It was Greenwood's 14th Ligue 1 goal this season
Amir Murillo made it 3-0 and Gouiri got his second of the afternoon to make it four for the hosts
with Adrien Rabiot adding a fifth as he scored for the third game running
Lucas Stassin pulled one back for Saint-Etienne
who remain in real danger of an immediate return to Ligue 2
Marseille are 10 points behind PSG and also six points better off than third-placed Monaco
who showed no mercy for struggling Nantes as they claimed a huge 7-1 win at the Stade Louis II
Danish striker Mika Biereth scored a hat-trick in a second consecutive home Ligue 1 game
the striker leading Monaco to a win which boosts morale following their 1-0 loss to Benfica in the first leg of their Champions League playoff tie in midweek
a January signing from Sturm Graz of Austria
also netted three times in a 4-2 home win over Auxerre two weeks ago and now has seven goals in seven appearances for his new club
Matthis Abline had given Nantes an early lead in the principality
but former Arsenal youngster Biereth equalised and Japanese international Takumi Minamino put the hosts ahead in first-half stoppage time
Eliesse Ben Seghir made it 3-1 before Biereth netted twice more
Two late goals from teenage Nigerian substitute George Ilenikhena then finished off the scoring as Monaco warmed up for the return leg against Benfica coming up in Lisbon on Tuesday
French publication L'Equipe didn't hold back in slating Mason Greenwood for his performance for Marseille against Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday night

Luis Henrique is a topic for discussion at Bayern Munich
according to TZ journalist Philipp Kessler
The Brazilian winger first attracted attention to himself in 2018 when he led Tres Passos Atletico Clube’s U19 team to a 2-0 win over Bayern’s U17 side
Henrique was etched into the Bavarian scouts’ books after a goal and an assist display in the same friendly fixture
He was even invited to join in on a Bayern Munich training session at the time too
Henrique is not a concrete transfer target but is being discussed as an option.
Olympique Marseille stayed in the race for the top spot in France's Ligue 1 by beating Olympique Lyon 3-2 in a week 20 clash Sunday
Lyon's French midfielder Corentin Tolisso brought the lead to the visitors in the 53rd minute at Velodrome Stadium
Marseille took the lead as English winger Mason Greenwood scored in the 61st minute and then his French teammate Adrien Rabiot netted in the 64th minute
Lyon's French striker Alexandre Lacazette equalized from a penalty kick in the 72nd minute
but Marseille's Brazilian attacker Luis Henrique tallied the winning goal in the 85th minute
Olympique Marseille are 10 points behind leaders Paris-Saint Germain
while Olympique Lyon are in seventh spot with 30 points
The Marseille Tramway Extension project (ETNS1) is financed by the European Union under the Public Sector Loan Facility
with a grant of €15 million and a loan of €100 million by the European Investment Bank (EIB)
The total budget of the project amounts to €320 million
The ETNS1 project is part of a broader investment programme launched by Métropole d’Aix-Marseille-Provence in 2021 in the transport sector
The ETNS1 project will improve the performance and quality of the tram network in Marseille
strengthen the quality and diversity of the public transport services in the area
encouraging soft mobility and behavioural changes for the local and regional citizens towards a more sustainable urban mobility
The project is expected to bring benefits in terms of time savings for passengers
and improved accessibility in the city and to create around 75 jobs
The Public Sector Loan Facility (PSLF) is the third pillar of the Just Transition Mechanism (JTM) – a key tool of the European Green Deal Investment Plan to make sure that no one and no region is left behind in the transition to a climate-neutral economy.
The PSLF combines loans from the European Investment Bank (up to around €6-8 billion) with grants from the European Commission (up to €1.3 billion)
The combined support is designed to mobilise additional investments for public sector entities in the regions most affected by the climate and energy transition (like Bouches du Rhône) as identified in the Territorial Just Transition Plans
to meet their development needs in the transition towards a climate-neutral economy
These plans are drawn up by each EU Member State and outline the challenges to be addressed in each just transition region
together with the development needs and targets to be reached by 2030.
The blending of the European Investment Bank loan and the Commission grant will facilitate the financing of projects that do not generate sufficient streams of revenues to cover their investment costs
The PSLF implementation is managed by CINEA
The European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA)
is an Executive Agency established by the European Commission to implement parts of EU funding programmes for transport
environment and maritime fisheries and aquaculture
CINEA aims is to support its beneficiaries
deliver high-quality programme and project management
foster effective knowledge sharing and create synergies between programmes - to support a sustainable
whose shareholders are the 27 Member States of the European Union (EU)
is the EU’s long-term financing institution
The EIB provides loans to the public and private sectors to support high-quality investments contributing to the achievement of the EU headline targets
France was the first beneficiary of EIB financing in the energy and green transition
with an overall investment of €6.9 billion in renewable energy
As a partner of local and regional authorities
the EIB spent €2.3 billion in funding last year on public rail and urban transport and soft mobility
its first investment sector in France last year
With 15 goal contributions this season for Olympique de Marseille
Luis Henrique (23) ranks amongst the most efficient Brazilian players in Europe’s top five divisions
In an exclusive interview with Get French Football News
harnessing the power of the Vélodrome and his ambitions for the future
After a loan spell back to Botafogo in July 2022
it looked like it would never happen for you at Marseille
worked hard at home and football is like that
And did you expect such a start to the current campaign
But with Roberto De Zerbi arriving and then having a great pre-season
and then I started the season well by scoring goals; that gave me the confidence to get to the next level
How do you explain this rise to prominence
I think it is the confidence that Roberto has given me
with his staff and with the players that have arrived too
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is always talking with me
giving me confidence and telling me to be calm when playing and at ease
You have described your relationship with De Zerbi as a ‘father-son relationship’
Everyone who has played under him will say that
He gives you confidence and is there every day with us
You are in the top five of most decisive Brazilians in Europe’s top five divisions
What does it mean to be amongst the likes of Vinícius Junior
To be among those players is important for me and for my career
I will continue to [work to] keep at the top with those players
Brazilians that are important for their clubs and so I watch them and I want to be like them too
I know that I have to work hard to get there but you never know – that is football
and do even more: score more goals and make more assists
what are the objectives for the end of the season
I think that the first objective this year was to qualify for the UEFA Champions League
It is a famous club and we have to be there
It is a club that should be at the highest level
The supporters have high expectations but that is why the club is so big – it is because of the fans
We will try to win the league and we have to believe until the end
There is a big favourite (Paris Saint-Germain) but they have lost matches too
OM have at times struggled to play at the Vélodrome this season with some players succumbing under the pressure
What is your experience of playing in the stadium
It is true that it is a stadium with an intense atmosphere
we showed that the fans really help us and support us
It is true that I managed to use this pressure in a positive way
I managed to change my mentality when I step on the pitch and I use it as a strength
I’ve always wanted to make the fans proud and light up the stadium
I am happy as I am managing to do that and I hope to continue scoring to keep making them proud
which you decided with a late volleyed winner (3-2)
John Textor made a joke about OM being a ‘small club’ when you joined his side
I know that he made these comments about OM and it wasn’t necessarily a good thing
We showed on the pitch though that we are a big club
But these are the little provocations that you get in football
Ligue 1 is often a stepping stone for many players to play in other big European leagues
I think that there are big leagues to play in (Get French Football News understands that Henrique is the subject of interest from the Premier League)
I have still three years left on my contract
I love being with the club and being at a top level and that is what I’m thinking about
I’m in the moment at Marseille and my head is here
And your objective for the end of the season – is it to reach that 10 goals

The TimesFounded by Greek-speaking Phocaeans 2,600 years ago
Marseilles is France’s oldest — and arguably its most storied — city
Once a crucible for traders from across the French empire
the city’s fortunes declined in the 1960s alongside that of the ocean travel industry
The shuttered houses of the Vieux Port neighbourhood sagged and gulls roosted in battlements of Château d’If
since serving as European Capital of Culture in 2013
Marseilles has rediscovered its joie de vivre
A high-profile museum and spate of high-end hotels have lured visitors back to the city and
its slightly faded grandeur only deepens its charm
Throw in a sun-kissed Mediterranean climate
access to both urban beaches and mountain trails and you have a recipe for a wonderfully varied break
Discover the heart of this city with our pick of the best things to do in Marseilles
Main photo: visitors to Marseilles look over the Vieux Port from Fort Saint-Jean (Getty Images)
The cuisine of Marseilles is Mediterranean par excellence: the sea has brought not just the obvious fishy influence to local tables
but also culinary currents from further afield that have shaped this melting-pot port
A three-and-a-half-hour walking and tasting tour typically introduces Provençal staples such as tapenade and aioli
the produce of the small fish market on the quayside of the Vieux Port
panisse (a chickpea flour fritter of Genoese origin)
and baked camembert given an authentically Marseillais twist with a shot of pastis

Lose yourself in Marseilles’ oldest quarterWhen ancient Greek colonists found the fine natural harbour of Massalia
the hill to its north became their first place of settlement
warren-like enclave reached by steep steps from the Vieux Port
thanks sometimes to the work of spray cans
but also because of its multitude of potted plants and painted shopfronts
Its unusual name (“The Basket”) first referred to the sign of a local inn
which was later applied to the main street and eventually the whole neighbourhood

Stumble upon street artMarseilles’ often unpolished look won’t appeal to everyone
The backstreets around Cours Julien are prime territory for redecorating walls
doorways and shop shutters with colourful creations; taking a themed walking tour can be a way to discover more about the artists behind the enigmatic names and ensure you have the up-to-date information on this outdoor gallery
where works can change from one week to the next

Stretch your legs behind the CornicheThe Corniche Président John Fitzgerald Kennedy is the southern half of the city’s winding and supremely scenic seaside drive
though traffic often makes it less pleasant to stroll along
you’ll find some of Marseilles’ most ravishing and quietest neighbourhoods
A three-and-a-half-hour walking tour with local resident Jean-Marc departs from the picture-book fishing port of Vallon des Auffes and gives your calves a full workout on stairways that lead up past hidden gardens and faded villas
before returning to the craggy coast once more

Go stand-up paddleboardingBlue horizons are a constant in the city — and a beautiful reference point when it comes to finding and keeping your equilibrium on a stand-up paddleboard
Discover the Calanques coastline from the water: while your core muscles are fully engaged
you can contemplate rocky coves as you paddle along and ponder the accuracy of the Mediterranean’s occasional nickname: the tideless sea
Closer to the city than the Calanques and starker in vegetation terms
the Îles du Frioul is a miniature archipelago that’s home to the Château d’If — the fortress-prison made famous by Alexandre Dumas’ 1844 novel
the islands are a great location for the kinds of water-based and motorised fun not permitted within the national park
Take the rough with the smooth on a walking tourFull disclosure: Marseilles is a city with a 2,600-year history in a superb natural setting
This is the starting point of an “ugly city” walking tour that aims to give visitors a nuanced view of Marseillais life
Le Panier and Noailles are neighbourhoods with historic charm
The boulevard between them is emblematic: La Canebière was once the city’s answer to the Champs-Élysées
Rue d’Aubagne and Eglise du Calvaire (Alamy)8
Play pétanque in its homeThe sound of steel thudding onto sand — or clashing into rival steel — is part of the soundtrack of Provence
Where else but Marseilles would you find a shop dedicated solely to boules
then head off for some friendly competition
which developed in nearby La Ciotat before 1910
is more strategic than the game’s simple concept might suggest
The light in Marseilles is a photographer’s dream
you’re finding it hard to capture the city’s best profile (see “ugliness” above)
a two-hour tour with a local can help you to focus
Beginning with photogenic nooks in Le Panier
where Norman Foster’s mirror-ceilinged Ombrière structure is an Instagrammer favourite
the tour reaches the seaside at Vallon des Auffes
the oldest district of Marseilles (Alamy)10
Wander down an emblematic streetFew walks illustrate such a cross-section of Marseilles and its contradictions as the route down Rue d’Aubagne
This street in the Noailles quarter is lined with historic yet often graffiti-covered and dilapidated houses (two tragically collapsed in 2018)
and — for its city-centre location — is an unusual symbol of resistance against gentrification
Restaurants and shops offer traditional dishes from Ivory Coast
is Maison Empereur: a treasure cave of a homewares store
Savon de Marseille could be considered a niche interest — unless you are among the many to have already discovered quite how satisfyingly chunky
rustic and good at getting out stains it is
Initially made using soda from the ashes of glasswort mixed with olive oil and seawater
the ultimate soapy gift is now enjoying a revival
you (and your kids) can watch a demonstration
and find out how much of a “nose” you are in the sensory area
Then stock up next door at the Savonnerie Marseillaise de la Licorne
one of four Marseilles shops run by Serge and Laurence Bruna
who also offer free guided tours of their workshop on the Cours Julien
Sardine soap at the Savonnerie Marseillaise de la Licorne (Alamy)12
Visit a landmark new (and old) museumNothing symbolised Marseilles’ turnaround in the 2010s quite like Mucem — the Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilisations
The main building on the quayside is clad in a lattice that suggests a rippled sea surface
and from there a walkway reaches over a dock to the stone ramparts of Fort Saint-Jean
one of a pair built in the 1660s to guard the main harbour entrance
The museum’s permanent collection is still relatively small
but the spread-out site hosts exhibitions covering historic themes and present-day Mediterranean life in all its variety

See Marseilles’ marine national parkBeyond the southern outskirts of the city lie the dazzling Calanques
a series of steep-sided inlets cutting into pale limestone cliffs
which (thanks to the ruggedness of the area) are most easily admired from the sea
it’s an afternoon’s sailing from the Vieux Port
Eco Calanques’ 12-seater hybrid electric boats make the round trip in four and a half hours
passing quietly through the narrow channel between the mainland and offshore Île Maïre to enter the park
and including time for a swim in an azure inlet

Watch Olympique de Marseille in actionThe Orange Vélodrome
home ground of the Marseilles football team
is also the largest club football ground in France and is rammed when OM play arch-rivals Paris Saint-Germain
the stadium has hosted matches in two Fifa World Cups and three Euro championships
as well as concerts by megastars such as Beyoncé
it was a setting for the massive hit track Bande organisée
featuring eight Marseille rappers and the line “C’est pas la capital

Hit a town beachMarseilles’s best beaches are to the south of the city
in the direction of the Calanques; all are accessible by bus (or you could hire a bike)
a popular swimming spot with a marine-friendly underwater sculpture trail
with a gentle drop-off protected by a seawall; it also has a volleyball area and a party atmosphere in the evening
it’s another 20 minutes to the Prado beaches

Get panoramic views from the basilicaLa Major
but it’s the hilltop basilica to the south of the harbour that has the city’s heart
Notre-Dame de la Garde is decorated inside with splendid Byzantine-style mosaics (and model boats offered by the fishing community)
while its belfry is topped by a gilded statue of the Madonna and Child
The wraparound terrace has astounding views of the city and nearby islands
Reach it as pilgrims do with a sloping climb
Go on the world’s shortest cruiseThe most eccentric component of Marseilles’ public transport network is Le Ferry Boat
which conveys passengers the 283m across the Vieux Port in under five minutes
It’s arguable how much time this shortcut actually saves
it’s also the cheapest way to get out — however briefly — among the yachts in a harbour that has sheltered ships since 600BC
the “boat” part is often pronounced “boîte” (box) in French
The Ferry Boat jetty in the Vieux Port (Alamy)18
Scale the city’s rock facesMarseilles must surely be Europe’s best big city for climbers
given the limestone cliffs that rear up all around it
with a climbing guide you’ll gain vertical feet and panoramic views unavailable to others
in and around the Calanques National Park south of the city
Excursions (outside the hottest summer months) range from half-hiking itineraries using ropes anchored to fixed points
to multi-pitch routes where climbers progress along ridge lines
and winch their way up cliff faces with Mediterranean waves breaking on the rocks far below
Marseilles as a city is short on green space
One of the largest parks lies to the east of the grand

Mason Greenwood scored his 10th Ligue 1 goal as Marseille won 2-0 at Saint-Etienne on Sunday to end the weekend in second place in the table, five points behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain.
Adrien Rabiot gave Marseille a first-half lead at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard and Greenwood added the second just after the hour mark, following up to score after his penalty was saved.
Greenwood, signed from Manchester United in July, has now reached double figures in just 14 appearances for Marseille.
The 23-year-old struck a late penalty winner against Monaco last time out and this latest victory ensures that Roberto De Zerbi's team end the weekend back where they started it, above the principality side on goal difference.
Monaco defeated Toulouse 2-0 on Saturday and both they and OM were able to take advantage of another slip-up by PSG, as the leaders drew 0-0 at Auxerre on Friday.
France midfielder Rabiot put the visitors ahead in Saint-Etienne as he controlled the ball on his chest inside the box before firing in.
The goal was disallowed on the pitch for offside but given following a VAR check -- it was Rabiot's first Ligue 1 goal since October 2018, when he was playing for PSG.
De Zerbi's men then won a spot-kick after the break for a foul on Greenwood.
His effort was parried by goalkeeper Gautier Larsonneur but Greenwood converted the rebound to join PSG's Bradley Barcola on 10 goals for the campaign.
Only Jonathan David, Lille's Canadian striker who has 11 goals, has found the net more often in Ligue 1 this season -- he scored twice in his side's 3-1 win over Brest on Friday.
Saint-Etienne, another of France's most storied clubs, have now lost nine of 14 games since winning promotion back to Ligue 1. They sit in the relegation play-off place.
French publication L'Equipe have gone in hard on Mason Greenwood after his performance off the bench for Marseille in their 1-0 defeat to Lens.
Germany's Lufthansa Group said on Monday it has suspended flights to Tel Aviv up to and including May 11, due to the "current situation".

Algeria's Amine Gouiri is proving to be an inspired signing by Marseille
The livewire forward scored two superb goals and played a part in the other three as second-placed Marseille routed Saint-Etienne 5-1 in Ligue 1 on Saturday
Gouiri also has three assists in the three games he's played since joining from Rennes in the January transfer window
Marseille's win was spectacular but changed nothing at the top because unbeaten Paris Saint-Germain maintained its 10-point lead after scraping a 1-0 win at Toulouse
PSG drew away and lost at home to Toulouse last season
Toulouse goalkeeper Guillaume Restes made a smart save from winger Bradley Barcola late in a gritty first half
Restes went off close to halftime with an apparent leg-muscle injury and was replaced by Kjetil Haug
He was beaten in the 52nd when Fabián Ruiz hooked the ball in after Willian Pacho’s header came off the crossbar
Gouiri gave Marseille the lead with a fine solo effort
after using Adrien Rabiot as a decoy runner to fool a defender
curled a superb shot into the top right corner from 20 meters in the 27th minute
Gouiri's pass from the left led to a defender's handball and Mason Greenwood converted the penalty to make it 2-0 and his 14th goal of the season
Gouiri was also involved in the third goal
which came after Gouiri and Quentin Merlin had shots saved before the ball fell to defender Amir Murillo
After Saint-Etienne lost the ball in midfield
Gouri latched onto a pass from Pierre-Emile Höjbjerg and expertly lobbed goalkeeper Gautier Larsonneur
Marseille's fifth goal saw Gouiri pick out Amar Dedic with a curling pass from the right and Dedic head the ball back across goal to give Rabiot a tap in

The Italian manager could hardly have made a better start to life as Marseille boss with his side just one of four yet to lose in the French top flight ahead of kick-off

Les Phoceens fans were likely satisfied with the half time stalemate

A dominant start by the visitors was rewarded in the seventh minute when Nuno Mendes's cross was spilt by Geronimo Rulli
with Joao Neves on hand to open the scoring with his first goal for the club
It then went from bad to worse for Marseille when Amine Harit was shown a straight red card for a high challenge on Marquinhos
leaving Roberto De Zerbi's side with an uphill task of salvaging anything from the game
PSG then hammered home its man advantage nine minutes after Harit's dismissal when the unfortunate Leonardo Balerdi turned the ball into his own net

Who will come out on top at the end of the season
We still don’t truly know how good this PSG side are
the match against Marseille was meant to be a litmus test for their competitiveness on the domestic stage
Marseille were reduced to 10 men by the 20-minute mark and so few deductions could be taken
The same strengths and weaknesses were on show
Bradley Barcola and João Neves looked strong
until he was asked to provide the final ball or the shot
After a run of three losses in four games against Lens
PSG have now won all of their last three against Les Sang et Or
despite their loss against Lens in the Derby du Nord last weekend
That result hinged on a late dubious refereeing decision as LOSC were awarded a penalty in the dying stages
Lens were solid and also worked good chances
has shown himself to be pragmatic and with some key players missing
Barcola should be kept quieter with Lens utilising full-backs
one of which will be tight to Barcola throughout
That isn’t to say that PSG won’t have joy through the middle
With Facundo Medina now in midfield and with Kevin Danso back
there is intensity and aggression in the duels
Les Sang et Or are more than capable of shutting this PSG side out

Paris Saint-Germain cruised to a 3-0 Le Classique victory over Marseille in Ligue 1 on Sunday after an early red card diminished their fierce rivals
Mason Greenwood has reacted to Marseille “beating the odds” in an incredible win that saw them prevail in a five-goal thriller with Lyon
Pierre-Emerick Aubamyeang (35) earlier today announced his departure from Olympique de Marseille through his social media
it had been reported that a deal had been reached between the striker and Al-Qadsiah for a two-year contract
However, an agreement between the Saudi Arabian side and Marseille had not yet been finalised, with Pablo Longoria blocking the move until the veteran striker informed him personally of his intentions to leave. This issue looks to have been sorted, and according to La Provence
Marseille expect that they will sell Aubameyang for between €9 to €10 million
This fee would be a welcome boost to the club’s coffers
especially with the Gabonese international entering the final year of a contract that was reportedly the largest in the Marseille squad
Marseille will soon have to turn their attention to finding a replacement for Aubameyang with the club linked to moves for Alexis Sánchez (35) and Eddie Nketiah (25)

France : A nightmare first half for Olympique de Marseille saw them concede three goals and lose midfielder Amine Harit to a straight red card as Paris St Germain recorded a resounding 3-0 away win on Sunday to move three points clear at the top of Ligue 1
The win was PSG's sixth straight league victory over their bitter rivals with Marseille struggling to contain them from the kickoff before rapidly collapsing after midfielder Joao Neves broke the deadlock in the seventh minute
The industrious Harit was red-carded 13 minutes later for a high challenge on PSG's Marquinhos
effectively snuffing out any hope of a comeback
but video replays indicated that the challenge was relatively harmless
Things went from bad to worse for Marseille nine minutes later when defender Leonardo Balerdi poked the ball past keeper Geronimo Rulli and into his own net to make it 2-0
and winger Bradley Barcola netted his eighth league goal of the season to make it 3-0 before the break
Some Marseille fans had already headed for the exits before the break
but those that stayed continued to vociferously support their side
urging them on in their uphill battle on the pitch
Barcola wasted an excellent chance to net his second and PSG's fourth just after the break
but he fired wide of the target with his weaker left foot with the goal at his mercy
The Marseille fans were almost rewarded with a late goal
but Lillian Brassier's header from a set piece in the 85th minute flew high over the bar
With all the teams in the top flight having played nine games
three clear of AS Monaco at the top of the standings
with Marseille a further three points back in third place

Marseille slipped 10 points behind Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain after a 2-0 loss at Champions League hopefuls Nice on Sunday
Roberto De Zerbi's OM were handed an opportunity to cut the gap to PSG by the reigning champions' 1-1 draw with Reims on Saturday
But Nice instead bounced back from their defeat at Lille last weekend to move into fourth place
just four points behind second-placed Marseille
PSG and Lyon have dropped points this weekend," said Marseille coach De Zerbi
Evann Guessand gave Nice a seventh-minute lead
pouncing on Lilian Brassier's error before dinking the ball over onrushing Marseille goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli
Brassier opted not to slide in an attempt to atone for his error and keep the ball out
instead only succeeding in stopping it behind the goalline

Hire a boat and take to the water for a wonderful day in Marseille © StockByM / Getty Images
Michael covered his home city of Marseille for the latest Lonely Planet guide
Here he gives his top five experiences unique to the city on the sea
A sprawling city bathed in sunshine reflected off the turquoise waters of the Mediterranean, Marseille lingers in your memory long after you leave
It may possess the historical remnants of its ancient Phoenician founders
but the hustle and throng of this port city have drawn a hip crowd from around the globe
The result is an urban setting that has finally shaken off its rough reputation and now features in Vogue magazine and on the social media feeds of hot celebrities
Time moves differently here in the summer months
but Marseille is effortlessly slow during the day as the heat takes over
You'll naturally be drawn to the coast for a dip or to simply relax under a parasol as your ice melts in your drink
We've rounded up some of the best experiences that will keep you coming back for more of Marseille
Marseille is a port city with an insatiable love for leisure sailing
There is no better way to have a moment of respite from the city’s intense energy than to suddenly skip away from the heavy concrete across the gentle waters of the Mediterranean
Public transport and huge party boats filled with tourists venture out into the waters
but the best way to enjoy a trip over the waves is to find a sailboat with a captain
You can kick back and enjoy a meal they will happily prepare as you catch the winds and visit the local inlets and tiny islands reachable within 30 minutes of the port
It is pure escapism and the joy of nature combined – a healthy
lung-filled burst of life and no better way to catch a sunset
you may also attract dolphins and whales to marvel at
Planning tip: Please be certain to book well in advance in the summer months
as one captain will usually only be operating from their own craft
Marseille’s African diaspora lives shoulder to shoulder within the very center of the city
where languages and dialects ring out loudly
It is a home-from-home where imported ingredients and restaurants feed the soul as well as the body
They bring back the taste of far-flung places and memories and have created a natural home in this foodie city
As well as experiencing the local produce and recipes that make up Provence’s glorious cuisine, do not leave without tasting what, amongst others, Senegal, Ghana, Cameroon, Tunisia and Morocco have to offer. All are well represented in joints you can hear hopping from down the street. La Jungle is an absolute highlight with music blaring from the huge TV screen as mountain-sized plates of food are dropped before you
Marseille has a reputation for being macho, but there is no better place to see this energy cast aside than at Sing or Die
tucked behind a heavy door on a quiet cobbled street in the Longchamp district
who has lived in the region for over a decade
has founded a safe space for all walks of life to sing their hearts out together drunkenly
This sparkly dark room with a stage is more a karaoke club than a bar
and it is truly like no other venue when filled to the brim at the weekend
sweat dripping from the ceiling onto a screaming crowd
Anyone wanting to cosplay as a rockstar will have found a nonjudgmental and remarkably friendly place to live out their dreams
It is a little part of the UK mixed with the sticky dance floors of Marseille – a place from which you can happily stagger back to your bed
Known as the end of the world to those in the city
It's a fishing village more than anything else
a small port where the locals speak in a familiar Marseille twang and sip Pastis (an alcoholic drink that is as much a part of the city as sunshine itself)
Les Goudes is far from the sounds and smells of urban sprawl
but it has entered a new phase as a destination for the super-rich on a summer break
Le Tuba is featured in only the most fashionable magazines – a hotel with a limited number of ocean-view rooms that costs a pretty cent for those fortunate enough to get a booking. It stands at odds with the handful of local fish restaurants and institutions like the Bar des Goudes
the perfect place to eat seafood and enjoy a cold drink
The first stop is the Port de Malmousque. As you descend the steps from the street, you're greeted by narrow alleys that hark back to a fishing village from another era. Head to the right to find a tiny and still port where locals drink wine out of plastic cups and float gently in the sea.
Those who desire more action and to mingle amongst the beautiful people can go further along the coast to the rocks under the celebrated restaurant, Le Petit Nice. At La Fausse Monnaie beach, you'll be shrouded in the kind of golden light that dreams are spun from.
Local tip: To truly do it as the locals do, bring all your picnic essentials, including wine or beer, and your towel.
Mason Greenwood reacts after missing out on Ligue 1 Player of the Year shortlist
Mason Greenwood “homesick” and wants Premier League return from Marseille
The 23-year-old forward’s 65th-minute goal helped Marseille secure a 2-0 victory over Saint-Etienne on Sunday.
With this achievement, Greenwood equaled the 10-goal tally he set during the 2019/20 Premier League season with Manchester United. However, the milestone has come much faster this time, as Greenwood has scored his 10 goals in just 14 Ligue 1 appearances, compared to the 31 games it took during his Premier League breakout campaign.
Greenwood’s clinical form has also earned him a place in Ligue 1 history. He became the first player since former Brazil international Sonny Anderson in 1994 to score 10 French league goals in just 14 appearances—a feat Anderson achieved with AS Monaco.
Now joint second in the Ligue 1 scoring charts alongside PSG’s Bradley Barcola and just one goal behind Lille’s Jonathan David, Greenwood is poised to set a new personal record. The young striker will have the opportunity to surpass his best-ever league tally next Saturday when Marseille face Lille in a pivotal Ligue 1 clash.
Greenwood’s sensational form has been a key factor in Marseille’s success this season, with the club firmly in the mix for a top-three finish. The 23-year-old’s ability to convert chances consistently has cemented his place as one of Ligue 1’s standout performers this campaign.

What if we told you that you could hop on a train from Marseille and go straight to your next travel destination
and it has to be said that social networks don’t help curb this trend
But a little voice in our heads – along with our eco-conscious friends and the media – often reminds us how important it is to respect the environment by reducing our impact
we set out to find destinations where we could travel by direct train
because you don’t have to be there three hours early
or take a 45-minute cab or bus ride to get to the city center
discover the destinations where you can go directly by train
we recommend the immense Casa del Campo park
which takes you right into the heart of nature just a stone’s throw from the city (you may even come across some sheep there)
beautiful architecture– it’s all there
And you’ll be glad you popped in after your 7h41-hour journey
Parc Güell and La Casa Batllo are just a few of the many attractions on offer
and whether you like sightseeing or lounging on the beach in the sun after an all-night dance party
even if it’s true that it’s better to go there outside the vacation season
as it seems that the city’s assets have spread around the world
the train is much more convenient and less time-consuming than the plane
so you can opt for the train with your eyes closed
you’re bound to stop off for a waffle or a cornet de frites during your stroll
The atmosphere is so jovial that it’s easy to understand why Angèle repeats “Bruxelles
Although this northern city isn’t next door
you’ll be surprised to find that it doesn’t take you that long to get there
far from the hustle and bustle of the big capitals
We urge you to visit the Neumünster corniche
nicknamed “the most beautiful balcony in Europe“
you have to climb to the top of the Main Tower for a panoramic view of the whole city
And if you’ve already visited Frankfurt
you can also take the same direct train to Mannheim
If you’re familiar with the Serre-Chevalier ski resort
As well as being right in the middle of nature
you’ll enjoy wandering through the narrow streets of the Vauban town
the town boasts a unique charm and breathtaking panorama
with many small shops and restaurants to tempt you
we strongly advise you to go there in spring
as they come alive with a thousand colors and compete with artificial intelligence on every level
there’s no denying that there’s plenty to do
but the quays of the Seine are well worth the 3-hour train journey from Marseille to Paris
you can wear an OM jersey as you stroll down the street – it’ll spice up your stay
As well as going there for a good restaurant or to share a good beer with friends and family
Lyon is as lively a city as Paris and Marseille
you can stroll the streets to discover concept stores
you can party in atypical venues or at the guinguettes along the quays
we like to spend long hours in the Parc de la tête d’or
strolling or lying on the lawn after admiring the view from the steps in the middle of the lake
you’ll have to go to Les Halles de Lyon to get a real taste of Lyon’s gastronomy
on y danse…” Have you got it in your head yet
at least it’ll give you a good reason to visit the fabulous city that hosts the annual Avignon Festival
the richness of this city lies in its surroundings
fields of vines as far as the eye can see – it’s all idyllic
barely enough time to watch a French comedy
Marseille Secrète invites you to discover the most romantic spots in the city for a successful tête à tête
the archipelago of the Frioul Islands is a true Marseille paradise
these 4 limestone islands offer you perfect intimacy in a pristine natural setting
Dreaming of a deserted island in a romantic setting
typically Marseillais port offers the perfect vantage point for a romantic sunset
It’s the perfect place to exchange sweet nothings in a setting reminiscent of Italy’s Cinque Terre…
Beyond the Vallon des Auffes lies Les Goudes
offers a magical setting for an intimate lovers’ evening with a touch of the “end of the world“…
Have you ever seen water so perfectly azure
Morgiou (9th arrondissement) boasts a small marina
Bring your loved one to this exceptional site of international renown
The esplanade de La Bonne Mère is one of the best places to enjoy the sunset over Marseille
Enjoy a magnificent view over the city and the port
whose mystical atmosphere will leave you speechless
golden beaches and turquoise waters… What more could you ask for to admire the most beautiful sunsets in the world
you’ll be dazzled by the beauty of the place… almost as much as by the beauty of your partner in the soft light of sunset
We’d better warn you: this view has to be earned
You can’t get there without a little effort
The hike starts from the city center (8th arrondissement) and climbs 570 meters to a breathtaking view over Marseille and the Mediterranean – all while enjoying the peace and quiet of the heights
In addition to a magnificent panorama and the company of your loved one

OL were immediately on the front foot with the numerical advantage
and Gift Orban managed to rattle the crossbar with a spectacular overhead attempt following a corner for Les Gones
Orban would get another chance to open the scoring only minutes later
but Geronimo Rulli denied the Nigerian attacker well in the one-on-one situation
Corentin Tolisso would be next up with a chance
as he managed to dribble past Rulli but the ball would be cleared off the line
OM's first foray into the Lyon box almost saw Valentin Rongier open the scoring for Les Olympiens
but he was denied by Lucas Perri's outstanding save
It came as Marseille started to enjoy a good period of possession after weathering a storm of Lyonnais attacks
But the pattern of the first half would resume as OL piled on the pressure: Lacazette tried to put the ball on a plate for Orban
Marseille would get extremely close to opening the score once more
this time it was Elye Wahi whose shot was surely going in if it wasn't for Corentin Tolisso's decisive clearance off the line to deny the Frenchman
after Rongier was adjudged to handle the ball in the box
Alexandre Lacazette stepped up to take the spot-kick
but Géronimo Rulli guessed the right way to save in dramatic fashion
Rulli kept the 10-man away side in the contest by the first half break with a superb performance
Lyon would find a way past the resistance of Marseille's resolute defence
as Clinton Mata showed some great determination to steal the ball back from Valentin Rongier and then provide a pinpoint cross for former OM defender Dujé Caleta-Carr to head decisively into the back of the net (53')
Maitland-Niles provided a well-timed through ball to Alex Lacazette
but the Frenchman was denied well by Murillo
Lyon looked comfortable with their one-goal and one-man advantage
but a mistake at the back would be costly for Pierre Sage's men as Luis Enrique fed a well-timed ball through to Pol Lirola
which caught the OL backline completely by surprise
The Spaniard beared down on goal and finished deftly to get what was an unlikely leveller for De Zerbi's side (69').
Just when you thought it couldn't get any more unpredictable
Marseille would come up with another stunning moment
as OM bombed forward through Lirola on the counter-attack
The Spaniard provided a perfect cross for Ulisses Garcia
who was in acres of space at the back post and lofted a looped finish past Perri into the back of the net (82')
It would be the first of three late twists to the tale
as Rayan Cherki would flick home Clinton Mata's low cross for an injury-time leveller for the home side (90+3)
Cue the huge celebrations from the home side's roaring fans - but it wouldn't end there just yet
OM would get themselves on the attack once more
and Jonathan Rowe picked up the ball down the left side and confidently drove at the Lyon defence
The England U21 international then let off a rocket past Perri into the back of the net
effectively sealing the three points for Marseille in the most stunning of circumstances (90'+5).
Rowe decided the Olympico with an incredible goal! 🏴🔥 pic.twitter.com/AiqbIfhxjv
I'm very happy to have seen this mentality and this courage
The substitutes who came on to win with ten against eleven
To see the looks on the players' faces so happy at the end
They've been down to ten men since the fifth minute
we have to know how to bury our opponents when we're leading
they look good and we go away with zero points
Marseille became the first team to win a Ligue 1 match after picking up a red card in the first 5 minutes of play since Opta began collecting this data (1992/93)

Australia’s Matt Wearn will have to wait another day for his shot at glory as the wind completely deserted Marseille for the Men’s Dinghy Medal Race
They will now attempt to get the race away tomorrow on the first of two scheduled reserve days
While the date of the race may have changed the equation has not
and with his 14-point lead over Pavlos Kontides he must finish no more than six places behind the Cypriot and show every endeavour to start and finish the race to claim his second consecutive Olympic title
“The girls tried to go out and get something done
but they decided it just wasn’t enough,” Wearn said after the Women’s Dinghy Medal race was also postponed
“Waiting around on the on the beach isn’t fantastic
but it’s just what you’ve got to do.”
The failing winds mean Wearn hasn’t raced for the past two days now
but it isn’t something the reigning World Champion is going to let bother him
“I think in sport you’ve got to be pretty good at switching on and off
It’s no different in the longer term as well
that there is a possibility that we could be racing tomorrow or even the next day.”
Wearn showed his typical composure as he sat patiently and plotting alongside coach Rafa Trujillo throughout the day
“Watching Matt in the pit lane he seemed very cool and confident awaiting the decision to either go out or place the boat back in quarantine and head back home for a reset,” noted Australian Olympic Sailing Team Leader Iain Brambell
The Medal Race will be broadcast live on Channel Nine and on 9Now
Wearn won’t be the only Aussie competing in a Medal Race tomorrow
with fellow Western Australians Nia Jerwood and Conor Nicholas securing their place in the Mixed Dinghy Medal Race by finishing their qualifying series in ninth
“Mixed emotions about today,” said Jerwood after racing
“I think some of the mistakes are going to haunt me for a little bit
but we’ve still got another day tomorrow and we’ll keep fighting.”
Women’s Kite got one race in before the wind dropped right out
with Breiana Whitehead posting a ninth to stay in Medal Series contention
The young Mixed Multihull team of Brin Liddell and Rhiannan Brown will take a lot out of their debut Olympic campaign and will be a team to watch in the future after finishing their qualification series in twelfth place
if you told me I would have finished thirteenth at the Games I would have told you that’s unbelievable,” said Liddell
“I feel like we had the speed to be up with the top guys so it’s a bit of a shame to not be in the top ten
So history awaits Wearn on the waters of Marseille tomorrow
When his head hits the pillow tonight it will no doubt be filled with dreams of Gold

Roberto De Zerbi has vowed never to coach in France again
De Zerbi was left fuming after his team lost 3-0 to Auxerre in a Ligue 1 clash
while Gaetan Perrin was also on target as Auxerre recorded a shock win
The defeat left Marseille 10 points behind league leaders Paris Saint-Germain
the visitors saw defender Derek Cornelius sent off after a second booking
The referee’s decision did not go down well with De Zerbi
who has criticized the standard of officiating in the country
the Italian said: “I’m Italian
and after OM I’m not going to coach in France again
“There’s a problem in the French championship
If French people are happy with this level of decision-making
“The referee was not in [the right state of mind to officiate] this match because of all the controversy surrounding him.”

LONDON (AP) — Richarlison pulled his Tottenham jersey over his face and wept as he was embraced by family members beside the field
It was a Champions League debut to remember for the Brazil forward
Playing in European competition for the first time in his career
Richarlison scored his first goals for Tottenham to earn a 2-0 win over 10-man Marseille in their opening group-stage match on Wednesday
The Brazil forward was unmarked in the middle of the penalty area when he met a cross from the left by Ivan Perisic with a header that flew past goalkeeper Pau Lopez
putting Tottenham ahead in the 76th minute
His second goal five minutes later was pretty much a replica
with Richarlison this time nodding in a deep cross from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg
Marseille was unable to eke out a draw at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after having center back Chancel Mbemba sent off in the 47th for bringing down Son Heung-min as the last man
Slovenian referee Slavko Vinčić dropped the red card on the ground as he was about to brandish it to Mbemba
Tottenham wing back Emerson Royal picked the card up to allow Vinčić to complete the job in an incident that proved a turning point in what was a lackluster stalemate at that point
it needed Richarlison’s late interventions to get Tottenham over the line in an otherwise stuttering performance by the team
He is emerging as a new attacking star for Spurs after forcing his way into the starting lineup in recent weeks following an offseason move from Everton for 60 million pounds (then $73 million)
“We had to dig deep and keep knocking on the door,” Tottenham striker Harry Kane said
“and thankfully Richie popped up with a couple of goals.”
said Tottenham had been “nervous” in the early stages of the game in which both teams canceled each other out
“We signed a lot of new players and need some time
We have to continue like this and are in a good way.”
While Tottenham remained unbeaten in all competitions
it was Marseille’s first loss of the season and continued a dreadful run of results in the Champions League
