Every Bugatti that leaves Molsheim undergoes an uncompromising quality control process and
these mechanical masterpieces face one last challenge: an intensive final inspection and circuit testing program that ensures absolute perfection
"Our relationship with Circuit de Mirecourt has been invaluable in ensuring that every Bolide meets our exacting standards. Their commitment to providing us with consistent track access has allowed our team to develop a rigorous and methodical approach to quality control for a car so extreme that there really was currently no benchmark for it. So, we developed our own, accepting nothing less than perfection.”
The shakedown process mobilizes a dedicated team of eight specialists for each session: two quality control drivers, a tire manager, a cooling manager, two mechanics, and two electricians. Working in orchestrated harmony, this expert team can validate two cars in a single day on track, assessing every single dynamic characteristic.
Bugatti's track-focused shakedown process is divided into two distinct phases, each designed to validate different aspects of the Bolide's performance:
Each test combines advanced telemetry derived from motorsport with expert human evaluation. Specialized software analyzes real-time data to detect even the slightest anomalies, while drivers trained in Bugatti's precise specifications provide invaluable feedback on the vehicle's performance and handling characteristics.
“Our dedicated quality team has crafted a process with as much care and attention as the Bolide’s aerodynamicists spent honing the downforce, or the engineers spent perfecting the dynamics. Their work ensures that the W16's purest expression in the Bolide delivers not just extraordinary performance, but does so with the reliability and quality that defines Bugatti."
The rigorous testing process will be ongoing as more customers throughout the world continue to take delivery and enjoy their Bolide on-track, including at the Bugatti ‘Feeling the Track’ events, following the premiere gathering at Circuit Paul Ricard in February. A second ‘Feeling The Track‘ event will take place at Circuit of the Americas in May.

See the photo above? There’s about £24 million of hypercar in that shot. At that’s at a minimum - £2.99 million (€3.5m) is the starting price for a Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+
and the sort of person who buys one of these will happily splurge on expensive extras

The group shot shows the first eight production Super Sport 300+ models to be meticulously assembled at Bugatti‘s Molsheim HQ
is the product of a two-year testing and development programme
All eight of these Super Sports are finished in exposed Jet Black carbon fibre with Jet Orange stripes
just like the prototype version that stunningly broke the 300mph barrier in 2019
buyers are also getting the same bespoke Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2s that are rated to run at up to 311mph
It’s around 25cm longer than a regular Chiron
which helps laminar airflow cling to the body for longer
the fitting of which is made possible by nudging the exhaust tailpipes further out
Mounted in the middle is a special version of Bugatti’s 8.0-litre
get you to 304mph - the top speed is electronically limited to ‘just’ 273mph
although Bugatti has said before it’d be willing to assist any owners wanting to do more than that
Bugatti is only making 30 of these. Except that’s not quite true - there’s also the Super Sport (note the lack of ‘300+’ on the end) which is pretty much identical save for the colour scheme
but it’s not as exclusive - Bugatti plans to make 60 of those

The guys go head-to-head in the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport..
The ladies and gents at Bugatti love to shout about superlatives and crazy facts
And who can blame them: they build one of the most expensive cars mankind has ever seen
a car that’s essentially designed to win every game of top trumps going
Also, they know full well that people like us lap up bonkers details
like the Chiron having the longest light conductor ever fitted to a car
and the biggest clutch ever seen in a road-going motor
this time releasing a tonne of information about its Molsheim facility and the production process of the Chiron
Here are some of the details that caught our attention…
Molsheim isn’t churning out cars at a ridiculous rate
Instead just 70 Chirons will be built in 2017
with a small team of just 20 people assembling each one
There are six months between the beginning of production to customer delivery
and each car is made up of over 1800 individual parts
The ‘Atelier’ part of the Bugatti factory - where the Chiron is assembled - has a floor space of 1000 square metres
and is finished in gloss white which Bugatti says “creates an atmosphere comparable with the catwalk of a fashion house.” Erm
it’s more reminiscent of McLaren’s factory floor
where gloss white floor tiles make it nice and easy to locate and sort out spillages
promoting an ultra-clean manufacturing atmosphere
and is conductive “ensuring the dissipation of any electrostatic charges”
but we want to talk about it simply because the image above is pure engineering filth
where the partially completed rear end is pushed together with the monocoque
it’s attached with 14 massive titanium bolts
quad-turbo W16 without ending up with something that weighs quite a lot
the old BMW S65 4.0-litre V8 weighs just 202kg
Bugatti is also keen to point out that the W16 is no heavier than the older version found in the Veyron
The Chiron’s bodywork includes one massive side panel that stretches all the way from the A pillar right to the car’s shapely rear
it’s “the largest single exterior carbon fibre part in the car industry.”
Bugatti had to significantly upgrade the dynamometer it used for the Veyron in order to cope with all the extra power
a whopping 1200 amps of electricity are generated
each Chiron takes around three weeks to paint
The painted cars then spend six hours in a light tunnel with a very thorough chap inspecting every little bit of the finish

Bugatti returned to its traditional location in Alsace in 2005
A place in automotive history that is still magical and unique
Only in 2001 did Bugatti announce with presentation of the first prototype that the future hyper sports car would also be built in Molsheim. Bugatti purchased neighbouring pieces of land and planned a modern production facility – the Atelier. The French authorities supported the project. Not just the new vehicle was to be unique, but also its birthplace.
In honour of Ettore Bugatti, the Atelier was officially opened around his birthday (15 September 1881) on 3 September 2005. Over several days, all those interested, friends of the brand, Bugatti enthusiasts and people living nearby were able to experience the rebuilt location. 450 Veyron vehicles were hand-built up to 2015. The Chiron has been assembled here since 2016, and the Divo since this summer.
“Molsheim is home to tradition, the modern world and the future. It is the concentration of time elements and functionality that are in perfect symbiosis with each other. Heritage next to high-tech”, says Stephan Winkelmann. Bugatti in Molsheim will also remain more than just the company headquarters and a car production plant in Alsace in the future. Bugatti in Molsheim still represents the realisation of a vision of the legendary Bugatti brand.
is set for substantial expansion and development
“The addition of this new facility at our home in Molsheim will be timed perfectly with the expansion of the brand and product range, showcasing the strength of Bugatti as we head into an exciting future,” said Christophe Piochon, President of Bugatti Automobiles.
on the weekend closest to the birthday of Ettore Bugatti – 15 September 1881 – the town of Molsheim in Alsace is transformed with a three-day celebration of Ettore’s incredible legacy
organized by the Enthousiastes Bugatti Alsace (EBA)
is a pilgrimage of Bugatti fans from all over the world
descending on the place that will forever be known as the home of this legendary brand
Christophe Piochon, President of Bugatti Automobiles – who was participating for the 18th time – undertook this year his eleventh edition of the Festival as a member of the official judging jury that – on Saturday evening – would decide the prizes for Bugatti vehicles on display. Each car is judged on its condition, originality, its elegance and its story, with a number of trophies awarded on the Sunday to the winners.
Forty years after the Bugatti Festival first took place in Molsheim, and over 110 years since Ettore Bugatti established his brand here, the connection between Alsace and his revolutionary cars is as strong as ever. His ethos continues to guide the brand today, and he would probably be honored that not only do his cars continue to be used and enjoyed as they were intended, but that the place that he called home for most of his life remains a core part of the Bugatti story.
Bugatti creates a new Tokyo home with touches of Molsheim as the Chiron hyper sports car is officially homologated for the Japanese market
The official opening of Bugatti Tokyo follows the legendary Chiron model and its derivatives passing the strict Japanese homologation requirements in 2020, the first country in Asia to grant this certification. Now Bugatti enthusiasts can add a Chiron hyper sports car to their collection and enjoy it on Japanese public roads as well as admiring it from their garage.
As part of a highly refined overall showroom experience, the latest digital technology is used to tell the Bugatti marque’s history and highlight every facet of the Bugatti model range. Using a tablet, customers can immerse themselves in their car's configuration, with the details beautifully mirrored and displayed on screens mounted on the showroom wall.
The business economist knows her way around the automotive industry. Before moving to France, she held various positions in human resources, most recently in personnel planning and controlling for the Volkswagen Group and as personnel manager at Volkswagen Motorsport, where she discovered her passion for high-performance vehicles.
At a time of great change across the entire industry, Bugatti wants to prepare its employees well for the future and strengthen their ties to the company. "At Bugatti, the employees have always been the focus of the company. In the future, we want to improve on this and, together with them, successfully move into an exciting future with highly innovative projects," says Stephan Winkelmann.
Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. manufactures the world's most powerful, fastest, most exclusive and luxurious production hyper sports car. Since its foundation in 1909, the French luxury brand has been based on and off in Molsheim, Alsace. The Veyron was made there between 2005 and 2015, the first modern-day hyper sports car, of which 450 vehicles were built by hand. Since autumn 2016, the staff in Molsheim have been producing the Chiron¹ models.
With an output of 1,500 hp, which has never before been achieved by production vehicles, a torque of 1,600 newton metres at 2,000 to 6,000 rpm and numerous technical innovations, the Chiron has been setting new standards in automotive engineering ever since.
In 2017, Bugatti delivered 70 vehicles to customers, by 2018 this had increased to 76. More than 80 vehicles are set to be delivered to customers in 2019. Bugatti has announced the construction of 500 models – currently only 100 Chiron can be ordered. Production of the Divo², a vehicle optimised for lateral acceleration, will follow soon.
Bugatti has been part of the Volkswagen Group since 1998 and employs more than 300 people. The majority of these work in Molsheim in Alsace. With 37 dealers and service partners in 18 countries in Europe, North America, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific, Bugatti is a global player.

When a production slot has been assigned to a customer’s vehicle, the parts that are needed are ordered. From now on, the countdown has started and it will take about six months up to the delivery of the car. Now, Bugatti’s suppliers, who are located throughout Europe, work hard to deliver the parts that are needed to Molsheim in time for assembly.
The only electronic tool used in chassis assembly is the new EC nutrunner system. This allows a data curve of each bolt tightened on the chassis to be stored on a computer connected to the system, which then gives the assembly worker a signal when the right torque value is reached. There are more than 1,800 bolted joints on a Chiron, with documentation required for 1,068.
The high point of chassis assembly is definitely the marriage – the operation of joining the monocoque and the rear end. 14 titanium bolts ensure that the bond between the two units is durable and extremely strong. Titanium was selected to save weight; each bolt only weighs 34 grams.
The next stage is a water test. Here, the Chiron is exposed to monsoon rain of varying intensity for 30 minutes to show that there are no leaks.
The interior fittings are only installed when this test has been completed. Here, two team members make sure that all the parts are installed in the right place in the interior of the Chiron, a process that normally takes about three days. Customers can choose between a luxurious variant with full leather trim or a more sporty combination of leather and carbon fibre.
When the interior has been completed, the Chiron is prepared for its test and final inspection drive. For this purpose, the entire super car is covered by a strong transparent plastic foil. This process alone takes a whole day. A further day is required for removing the foil and cleaning the vehicle following the test drive.
Usually, the customer will already have visited Molsheim several times by then. Following a test drive in a demonstration vehicle, the signature of the contract and the configuration of their own personal Chiron, customers welcome the opportunity to witness the creation of their vehicle personally during production in the Atelier. Those, who really want to, can even spend a day working on their own sports car.

It takes three weeks to apply the individual layers of paint on the body. A carbon fiber finish, for which Bugatti is the market leader in the manufacturing quality, has six layers, and topcoats up to eight layers. Between each step, the work is precisely controlled, each layer is applied by hand, sanded and polished. The exterior parts are pre-assembled on the factory premises in the technical center, which is just a few hundred meters away, where they undergo a first quality inspection.
At least 3,800 tightening points are tightened by around 20 employees and checked several times, putting more than 1,800 individual parts together to form a whole. Machines only provide support during assembly or when adhering to precise values, such as the prescribed tightening torque for screws.
"Bugatti hyper sports cars are not comparable to any other vehicle, not in terms of performance, speed, materials and quality. It starts with the selection of materials and the composition here in the Atelier," says Christophe Piochon. "The way we create our models by handcrafting each customer an individual product in this special atmosphere makes us unique. That's Haute Couture de l'Automobile," he says.
It's hard to think of a more glamorous car than a Bugatti.

September is a special month for Bugatti; every September 15th the town of Molsheim in France is celebrates Ettore Bugatti
we take a look at the 2019 festivities from Bugatti’s 110th Anniversary Tour Finish-line and Grand Fête that were held at the company’s HQs
Back in September 2019 the 110th Anniversary tour started in Milan with around 20 cars driving towards Montecarlo – Aix-en-Provence – Beaune – Paris before ending up at the factory in Molsheim
Additional Bugatti owners joined in for the 2-day tour and the parking lot was probably the biggest gathering of Bugatti cars ever seen
Enjoy the stunning lineup which I captured below
After a warm welcome at the entrance and the parade of precisely lined-up Chirons
the guests were able to explore nearly one hundred cars from different epochs
One focus of the festive exhibition in the park around the Château as well as the North Remise and the South Remise were the Bugatti world record vehicles including the historic Bugatti Type 35 – the most successful racing car of all time
The record cars on display included the EB110 SS Ice Speed Record
the record-breaking Veyron Super Sport from 2010 and the Veyron Vitesse WRC
this Roadster set a new world speed record for open-top series-production sports cars with a speed of 408.84 km/h
And just few weeks earlier, the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ had become the first hyper sports car to break the magical 300mph barrier (482.80 km/h)
I especially liked the fact that the car was untouched since the record run
Stephan Winkelmann and Andy Wallace gave me a preview of the hidden record car
Earlier that day I had met Andy Wallace in one of the historic buildings
next to the famous Type 35 C and he spent an hour telling stories about his racing career and technical details behind breaking speed records
and they experimented with temperature sensors and so on
I’m still very grateful for this fascinating insight – Thank You Sir
The stunning exhibition continued with a selection of rare historic Bugatti cars
some provided by the famous Schlumpf Collection – the largest Bugatti collection in the world
along with several private lenders including a Type 30 Torpedo
a Type 57 S Corsica and the famous Type 35 racing car
The English word “coach” refers to a carriage or a car
and coachbuilding is equivalent to haute couture in the fashion sector: it is about creating unique specimens
The invited guests on Saturday afternoon and the general public on Sunday were able to see modern creations like the Bugatti Divo

A consistent thread in Bugatti’s legend and just as integral to the brand’s story as any historic vehicle is the Château Saint Jean and the dedicated Bugatti team that work there
The house bought by Ettore Bugatti in 1928 welcomed the first employees of the new Bugatti era to the picturesque town of Molsheim in 2003 – it was the beginning of a fresh chapter for the brand
but also a new exciting journey for a select few
The handful of people were entrusted to prepare Bugatti for its rebirth. Starting from scratch, and with a blank page, the first Bugatti team members in Molsheim were assigned the task of preparing the brand and its home for the production of a car that would forever change the fate of the performance car world.
For Patrick Burk, Jean-Luc Furst, Didier Arbogast, Francis Jund, Loic Hoenig and Ludovic Herbez, the Château Saint Jean was a familiar sight, an aging symbol of Bugatti’s history, first bought by Ettore Bugatti as a place to host lavish parties for customers and VIPs. In 2003, however, everything changed for them. The six men went from growing up in the surrounding areas, to becoming a fundamental part of maintaining the enduring legacy of Château Saint Jean.
“The low wall between the Atelier and the Orangerie was crumbling, and I was asked to get rid of it. I fought so that it could remain in place and fixed it myself. This wall is a testimony to our history. At the time, it symbolized the passage from the past – the Château, Remises and Orangerie – to the future – the newly-built Atelier,” noted Patrick Burk, the very first employee in Molsheim, and now Head of Safety and Facility.
“Very few people are given the opportunity to experience the work we have done with Bugatti – in a hyper sports car, luxury environment, alongside such history,” added Ludovic Herbez, IT end user support Specialist.
Passion for Bugatti’s heritage is woven into the fabric of life in Molsheim. And the team share this emotion. “When I started, I was so immersed in Bugatti,” explained Head of Accounting, Jean-Luc Furst. “Everything about Bugatti appealed to me enormously. It was magical. I had the chance to work in the Château, which is just beautiful. I am honored to think that Bugatti is something that I helped create and grow.”
“I have worked with these cars for years, but when I watch them being driven, I am still blown away, it is just magnificent,” noted Loic Hoenig, After Sales technical support and training Expert. “The enthusiasm for Bugatti is limitless, and every time it reminds me that the cars we make are still as remarkable as 20 years ago. This is really not common.”
Now in 2023, Bugatti in Molsheim has embarked on an entirely new era, forging the next chapter of automotive history. For Burk, Furst, Arbogast, Jund, Hoenig and Herbez; time has seen their roles evolve from when they first started, and their excitement for the next steps in Bugatti’s tale is palpable.
“You can’t find anything better than what we do – it is truly incomparable,” explained Hoenig. “There are plenty of great cars and great brands out there, but the cars we develop are just unbeatable. The past 20 years have been incredibly rich, and we have pushed boundaries. I look forward to seeing how the company evolves from here.”
The French region of Alsace has a moving history – just like Bugatti
In late 1909, Ettore Bugatti and his family moved from Cologne to Molsheim near Strasbourg, where he had secured funding to produce cars and aircraft engines. Although Alsace was smaller than neighbouring Baden-Württemberg, an entire industrial sector produced high-quality goods here. The region was considered rich at that time, offering skilled jobs and staff, agriculture, space and good food.
“Alsace is the most European place in Europe. Switching between Germany and France has caused a lot of tension, but it’s also brought different nations together to form an international community. This has made Alsace cosmopolitan, international and European,” says Claude Muller, professor at the Faculty of Historical Sciences at the Institute of the History of Alsace at the University of Strasbourg.
300 of the 500-vehicle limited edition of the Chiron have already been completed
For the interior, the Bugatti client chose the Pur Sport Interior Package in subdued "Beluga Black" for the leather and Alcantara with contrasting seams in "Gris Rafale". As a tribute to Ettore Bugatti’s younger brother Rembrandt, a drawing of the famous dancing elephant decorates the head restraints. The optional Sky View will give passengers a view of the open sky.
The Chiron Pur Sport designed for lateral acceleration has been built in the Atelier in Molsheim in the Alsace region of France since fall 2020. Only 60 vehicles at a unit price of 3 million euros (net) will be made. The majority will be delivered to their owners this year.
In addition to the Chiron Pur Sport, employees are assembling the Chiron Sportand the Divo in Molsheim this year. With the La Voiture Noire² that Bugatti presented in March 2019, the French manufacturer is finally producing the most exclusive and most expensive car in the world in 2021. With this model, Bugatti developed a hyper sports car that revives the coachbuilding tradition of the luxury automotive manufacturer. Again, a car that is absolutely unique.

made in limited numbers with the best quality materials – a new pool table by Bugatti that is true to the values of the luxury marque
True to the Bugatti name, the Pool Table uses innovative technology to give it the edge over rival products. An optional servo-driven system deploys a gyroscopic sensor to level the table – in case of installation on board a yacht. Each leg can move to compensate for the movement of a ship and remain perfectly level. The system can adjust in just 5 milliseconds, and the movement is completed in total silence with vibration-free adjustment.
Just like the hyper sports cars made in Molsheim, the Bugatti Pool Table is made of the highest quality materials and even wears the famous Bugatti badge. The carbon fiber finish of the Pool Table represents the sporting nature of the French luxury marque, while the strong frame of the table is underpinned by machined aluminum and titanium. The product meets the standards of a professional tournament pool table.
While the Bugatti Pool Table complements any hyper sports car in a collection, products in a range of official accessories are the perfect match for this sports equipment. The wall cue support is finished in carbon fiber, also featuring a 13-inch, high-resolution touch screen to keep track of scores. The carbon fiber pool cues feature anodized and CNC-machined aluminum ends that are made to the same design of the buttons of Bugatti hyper sports cars.
The first official Bugatti Pool Table will be delivered to customers in June and is available to purchase for €250.000, including the accessories.

Historic and current models as well as two premieres in Molsheim
Just a few weeks ago, a pre-series version of the new Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ was the first hyper sports car to break the magical 300-mile-per-hour barrier (482.80 km/h). Bugatti has thus set a new TÜV-certified speed record of 304.773 mph (490.484 km/h). “Bugatti has once again demonstrated what our employees in the various departments are capable of. The name of Bugatti will go down in the history books as the first brand to pass the 300-mile-per-hour mark,” says Stephan Winkelmann.
The new Chiron Super Sport 300+ is a special edition limited to 30 units. It is visually based on the record-breaking car. With an output of 1,176 kW/1,600 PS, the edition model Super Sport 300+ will be delivered to customers in mid-2021 at a net unit price of 3.5 million euros.

Michael Och has been in charge of Quality Assurance at Bugatti in Molsheim since August
A certified engineer, Michael Och is extremely well-versed in the world of quality management for the vehicle industry: before taking on his new role in Molsheim, he worked at various international car manufacturers, where he managed quality assurance for entire locations and vehicle production facilities. He also worked as a head of manufacturing and as a production manager. Before moving to Alsace, he worked in the central quality assurance division for the Volkswagen Group.
“I am looking forward to my new role at this incredible brand, the creator of some extraordinary hyper sports cars, like the Chiron and the Divo. Raising the bar for the already high standards of quality is a challenge that I am happy to accept,” says Michael Och.
Jordi Cabanero is moving within the Volkswagen Group at his own request and will be assuming a new role in China. “I would like to thank Jordi Cabanero for his outstanding work over the past few years and wish him all the best for his professional future,” says Stephan Winkelmann.
Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. manufactures the world's most powerful, fastest, most exclusive and luxurious production hyper sports cars. Since its foundation in 1909, the French luxury brand has been based on and off in Molsheim, Alsace. The Veyron was made there between 2005 and 2015, the first modern-day hyper sports car, of which 450 vehicles were built by hand. Since autumn 2016, the staff in Molsheim have been producing the Chiron¹ model.
With an output of 1,500 hp, which has never before been achieved by production vehicles, a torque of 1,600 newton metres at 2,000 to 6,000 rpm and numerous technical innovations, the Chiron¹ has been setting new standards in automotive engineering ever since.
If you remember, the first Bugatti Mistral prototype was spotted on public roads all the way back in November 2023. The open-top hypercar is now inching closer to production. Here’s a video of the first pre-production mule, spotted recently in Molsheim.

On the road, the W16 Mistral³ will be the ultimate Bugatti roadster, while the track-only Bolide⁴ provides the purest experience of the W16 engine.

At home, he obtained all the information he could about the Bugatti family. “Afterwards, I knew that I really wanted this job. Bugatti is a brand that is inspiring and creative, artistic and technically highly demanding. It is also a French brand,” says Burk. The founder of the brand, Ettore Bugatti, moved to Molsheim in Alsace in 1909 and sold his first Bugatti vehicle a year later. For Ettore Bugatti, who was born in Italy, Molsheim became his workplace and his home.
Regularly, Burk, who is a car fan, climbs into a Bugatti Chiron for a short trip with local authorities such as police or the fire brigade, so that they can see what works of art are being created in their neighbourhood. “Otherwise, it’s difficult to explain what is so special about Bugatti – the beauty, the quality and the performance. It’s just the best car in the world,” he says.
Patrick Burk relaxes in a very special place: sitting under the 13th century archway and looking towards the Château, he enjoys the view and the calm. He still finds it hard to believe that this is his job here. But he always has his smartphone with him. After all, something could happen at his company.
