there has been no net result in the search for the remains of Naparra
In the morning they excavated the first and found nothing
The researchers worked for five hours in 300 square meters on a thimble located 2 kilometers from the town of Labrit
At 9:30 a.m., the earth begins to rise in the oak grove between the towns of Brocas and Labrit. In October last year, an anonymous source linked to state terrorism said that Naparra was buried there in 1980
To these statements has been added a report by Paco Etxeberria that gives credence to the theory of burial
also considers the testimony of the anonymous source to be true
José Miguel Etxeberria disappeared in 1980
in Zibu (Lapurdi) and his kidnapping and murder was taken over by Batallón Vasco Español
closed the case in 2004 because he did not identify the murderers of Naparra
the family and the forensic doctor filed two reports detailing the presence of the remains in this area of the Landes
Judge Moreno reopened the case and asked France to search for Naparra’s body
The crime has not yet been prosecuted because the family filed the complaint in 1999 and
so that's an achievement that won't be missed by us
but we know we've got three more games to keep building on that."

French airmen have trained to protect bases or 'movements of ground forces' under the threat of enemy air power – which could be Russian
By Elise Vincent (Mont-de-Marsan
As is always the case with this type of exercise
fictitious and real elements of geopolitical context were mixed together
some of those elements that were made public were the protection of "high value" areas and "movements of ground forces faced with an enemy air threat." In short
these could show what efforts to secure sites to which French and Western troops would be sent in Ukraine
might look like – even though this type of training never mentions the names of existing countries and is supposed to prepare for operations anywhere in the world
"The aim is to show that we are credible," said Lieutenant-Colonel Yann
who had come down from the eastern French city of Nancy

Everything you need to know about stage 7 of the 2023 Tour de France.
Text description provided by the architects. The Mont-de-Marsan professional & technical high school, called « Ecole Professionnelle de Métiers » is welcoming approximately 600 pupils.
The building houses 6 teaching departments:
- bakery, patisserie, chocolate and ice cream.
- Beauty parlour : hairdressing, manicure, make-up.
Courtesy of Hessamfar & VéronsArchitectural concepts
The 6404 sq metres building surrounded by a woodland, a protected forest (Natura 2000 label) with several hundred years old oak trees and tall pine trees. The forest on the hill side behind the school is visible from the front of the building which is split into individual blocks looking as if they are an integrated part of the landscape. This breaks up the overall 128 m profile and creates a fairly low line scaled building.
Courtesy of Hessamfar & VéronsEntrance to the school is situated beneath the main block. It literally cuts through the hill and is glazed on both sides: from the fields on the front, through the entrance hall, the forest can be seen in the background. This area is full of light and visitors are often surprised about the amount of natural daylight bathing the inside of the building.
Floor PlanAll facade walls are metal framed with wood cladding. Behind the cladding, many openings have been cut at random in the walls giving plenty of natural light inside, while exterior cladding provides comfortable shading. During the day, this creates quality atmosphere and at night, attractive light effects.
Courtesy of Hessamfar & VéronsThe concrete structure of beams, pillars and floors gives the whole construction a certain degree of flexibility. This was necessary to ensure each department with its own technical constraints could function properly.
Courtesy of Hessamfar & VéronsThe two floor project was extended an extra level. This third floor is also cladded with wood and contains the technical equipment for the various training departments ( boiler room, air handling units, etc.) As technical equipment does not take up the entire area on the third floor of each block, some rooms underneath have benefited from double height ceilings ( for example the staff room, library and admin department).
Courtesy of Hessamfar & VéronsThe East facade is mainly glazed allowing users enjoy the magnificent views of the protected forest at the back. It is also protected by wood cladding.
Courtesy of Hessamfar & VéronsThere is a need to preserve areas of outstanding natural beauty, so during construction work particular care and sensitivity were displayed to keep as many trees as possible on the actual site.
Courtesy of Hessamfar & VéronsEnvironmental building
The architectural choices made resulted in creating an equipment with low impact on the environment. The re-vegetation of the hill sides was continued onto the roof on the west side. This green roof protects the building from prevailing winds and offers protection against heat in the summer. It also helps inholding rainwater.
Courtesy of Hessamfar & VéronsLandscaping of the site has a continuous flowing feel as it incorporates the building into the actual hill side and forest. Flowering meadows were chosen for both the slopes and the roof as they are easy to maintain and fit in well with the local wood.
SectionRegional pine wood from the region (Forêt des Landes) was chosen for the cladding. This has the advantage of shortening the whole production- distribution chain and makes perfect sense from a environmental view point.
Courtesy of Hessamfar & VéronsThe school is therefore a showcase of local savoir- faire and local timber usage
control of the environment and innovative techniques have been the prime ingredients of this project
The result is a perfectly scaled building that offers an optimum environmentally friendly solution

2017 2:45 PM ESTWhen it comes to defending against pesky drones
These drone-hunting birds of prey are being trained at a French Air Force base in Southwestern France. They’re literally born on top of drones
and kept there during early stages of feeding
they’re brought to a field to intercept drones
“These eagles can spot the drones several thousand meters (yards) away and neutralize them,” Jean-Christophe Zimmerman, a French Air Force general, told Reuters
The idea is to offer a solution to sneaky smaller drones near military bases
(They’re not meant to tangle with militarized Predator-style drones.) The eagles are seen as safer than other solutions
like shooting down drones or using nets to capture them

taking out his third victory of the three stages for the fast men so far in the 2023 race
Another stellar lead out from Mathieu van der Poel delivered Philipsen to a commanding victory - denying Mark Cavendish (Astana Qazaqstan) his 35th Tour stage win by a bike length
The Manxman could be consoled by coming far closer to breaking the all-time record than in the previous two stages but
he found that he had no match to the acceleration of his Belgian rival
Biniam Girmay (Intermarché-Circus-Wanty) also missed out on making history for Eritrea
"I think we can be proud of our team achievement
Without them it would never be possible to get this third stage win already," Philipsen said
"I'm just really proud of how they worked already and how we found each other in the final to do everything that we can to lead to success
He acknowledged the challenge from Cavendish
who had the speed but perhaps not the timing to take a historic win
He's up there and in good condition so it will be hard."
technical run-in so riddled with turns and narrow roads that the UCI extended the 3km rule that keeps riders from losing time to crashes or mechanicals to 3.6km
Bora-Hansgrohe had control coming into the final kilometre but Van der Poel poked a hole with his unbeatable acceleration
Jayco-AlUla were no challenge and Dylan Groenewegen got boxed in
finishing fifth as Luca Mozzato (Arkéa-Samsic) snuck through
Philipsen gave a nod to his team for getting him through the tricky finale in a perfect position
"I think we were a very good group in the last 3k
And even Søren [Kragh Andersen] did an amazing pull and we still had Jonas [Rickaert] and Mathieu there
I was always on a good wheel and I never had to do a big effort I launched my sprint and that's how we win."
After being dubbed 'Jasper disaster' by his team, as revealed in the Netflix series Tour de France: Unchained
Philipsen has proved himself to be anything but
and now holds a huge 88-point lead in the points classification
it's a goal I think to try to take this to Paris but we're only a week in
it's still a long and tough Tour we'll just see
Riders of the Tour de France donned ice vests and topped off with hydration before stage 7 to Bordeaux
the 80th time the city hosted a finish in the event's history
negotiations between the CPA riders' union and the UCI commissaires led to an agreement to extend the 3km rule to 3.6km due to two tricky turns in the finale
That meant the sprinters could unfurl their lead-outs without the overall Tour de France contenders fighting to hold position through the technical run-in
which was expected to be quite fast with a strong tailwind blowing along the river Garonne
The heat sapped the impetus from most of the peloton and the usual fight for the breakaway melted into a languid roll-out from Mont-de-Marsan
Simon Guglielmi (Arkéa-Samsic) and Mathieu Burgaudeau (TotalEnergies) clipped off the front of the bunch but before long
That left poor Gugliemi to cover half of the stage on his own
He didn't have to try too hard as the peloton let his lead balloon out to 6:30 in the first 20km
The sprinters' teams put their sails up into the tailwind and steadily traveled toward Bordeaux
slowly whittling the gap down until they had a reason to burn a match or two
The intermediate sprint in Grignols rousted the peloton from its daze
Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek) led out the sprint but wasn't willing to pour too much energy into it
and faded back as Biniam Girmay (Intermarché-Circus-Wanty) took the 17 points for second place ahead of Philipsen
the gap to poor Gugliemi was under one minute and
Nans Peters (AG2R-Citroën) and Pierre Latour (TotalEnergies) bridged across and edged the gap back out over a minute
a massive injection of pace from Ineos Grenadiers before the sole classified climb
the Côte de Béguey (1.2km at 4.4%) with 39km to go forced the leaders to accelerate in turn
and Gugliemi found his limits and unhitched his car from the Peters/Latour train
Gugliemi returned to the peloton as the pace rose from a simmer to a gentle boil
with the tailwind propelling the race along
The gap stayed steady as the breakaway responded to every acceleration behind until Soudal-QuickStep finally came forward with 22.5km to go and lined the bunch out single file in a cross-tailwind
Back into the tailwind along the river Garonne
the speed of the chasing bunch began to swing the balance and the gap fell under one minute
The peloton was tightly bunched at the front as the lead-out trains assembled
so much so that Cavendish narrowly avoided sparking a crash when he bumped Jasper De Buyst (Lotto Dstny) before offering a quick apology
Peters and Latour continued to keep the chase at bay but their effort was a flat-out two-man time trial against an unusual cooperation between the various trains
A big pull from 'the tractor' Tim Declercq (Soudal-QuickStep) nudged their lead under the 30-second mark before 10km to go
A series of roundabouts and traffic islands didn't slow the chase at all as the GC teams Jumbo-Visma and Ineos Grenadiers surged to keep their contenders safe
They had the escape duo in sight with 6km to go and Peters decided the fight wasn't worth it and sat up
leaving Latour in a futile battle against a concerted chase and he was soon caught
Jumbo-Visma could have pulled off after the safety mark of 3.6km to go but kept Vingegaard at the front until the road straightened out
Alpecin-Deceuninck and the other sprint trains came out to play on a narrow run-in

Gloucester’s Andy Hazell unleashed against Mont De Marsan in their Amlin Challenge Cup match last night after he was allegedly eye-gouged and had a ‘severely sore and very red’ eye

it happened in the unassuming city of Mont de Marsan
a place nestled in the deep southwestern region of France
primarily known for its bullfighting traditions and the annual Fete de Madeline
Aside from its pleasant and picturesque appeal among tourists
Mont de Marsan significantly impacted punk history by hosting the very first punk rock festival in Europe
had even opened their doors to the punk flood
despite the conservative President Giscard d’Estaing imposing a blanket ban on music festivals throughout the country
The whole venture was a testament to the audacious efforts of a man named Marc Zermati
who orchestrated this entirely groundbreaking movement in the heart of the commune
Zermati’s vision and determination defied the restrictions of the time and cemented the location as a place in the pantheon of punk rock
and the festival was billed as the first-ever Punk Rock Festival in Europe
Eddie and the Hot Rods and Pink Fairies took the headline spots
and the crowd featured goers with longer hair and wider flares than you might typically associate with a punk rocker
the true punk essence of the weekend was epitomised by The Damned
a band that had pioneered various aspects of the movement as a whole
the Sex Pistols were allegedly invited but declined to attend
reportedly due to Eddie and the Hot Rods headlining and some prior disagreements with Zermati
especially considering the cultural circumstances
with the festival’s attendees numbering somewhere between 600 and 1400
who had made the journey all the way from Manchester with his wife
the lineup of the second festival is likely to be even more gratifying
with the return of The Damned being a notable highlight
accompanied by other esteemed British musical acts such as The Police
While The Police took on more of an opening act role
and Eddie and the Hot Rods headlined on that Sunday
the diverse gathering of British bands shared the stage with brilliant French outfits like Strychnine
The audience was also in for a delightful surprise when Lou Reed graced the arena with his performance on the Monday night
The second festival in the bullring drew around 4,000 attendees
who gathered under the scorching Landes sun to witness the unmatched musical scenes
leading to its ‘relocation’ to La Rochelle
The organisers had to wait until the arrival of the new mayor
in 1983 to revive the festival in Mont-de-Marsan for three more editions
as acts like The Pogues and Nina Hagen took to the stage
the festival eventually ceased to exist after its fifth edition
a special concert featuring Eddie and the Hot Rods and Bijou was held on Mont-de-Marsan’s Town Hall Square
commemorating the 40th anniversary of the inaugural festival
the earlier events harboured the impending punk wave preceding the UK and US movements
in one of his final ventures before joining Magnum
“The punk movement was not really my thing
but my interest in all these nascent movements motivated me,” he said
And I saw.” Gaumy’s photographs capture many young people sporting their DIY punk attire
along with bands who were present in the building: some of his shots feature Sting and Paul Simonon amid the thriving scene
Although not as widely recognised as the UK or US punk scenes
France’s influence in the punk movement remains subtle yet substantial
This scene gradually developed its distinctive identity
guided by numerous key figures who propelled the movement
it merged with other influential forces on the global stage
we uncover the pioneering impact of that inaugural festival in Mont de Marsan
where countless music enthusiasts eagerly anticipated the fiery rise of punk

Lawmakers in France are trying once again to ban bullfighting
The issue has split the ruling coalition of President Emmanuel Macron and the biggest opposition party
which is led by animal-lover Marine Le Pen
Journalist-turned-MP Aymeric Caron has proposed a bill to outlaw the centuries-old practice
which remains popular in south west France
The bill is currently with the Law Commission before going up for a vote in the National Assembly on November 24th - the first time MPs have ever voted on the subject
France’s penal code outlaws acts of cruelty towards animals but makes an exception for “uninterrupted local traditions” such as bullfighting
To prohibit it is to clash with the aficionados attached to this local custom in cities including Bayonne and the medieval jewel of Mont-de-Marsan in southwest France near Spain
and along the Mediterranean coast including Arles
Environmentalist MPs tried and failed in 2013 and again 2021 to have bullfighting banned
According to an Ifop poll conducted in February for animal welfare organisation 30 millions d'amis
77 percent of French people are in favour of banning bullfighting - up from 50 percent in 2007
The trend is reversed in cities with a bullfighting tradition
where 72% of the inhabitants favour maintaining bullfighting
according to a poll conducted by Ifop and Sud Radio in June
La France Insoumise MP Caron said: ““I think the majority of French people share the view that bullfights are immoral
a spectacle that no longer has its place in the 21st century.”
critics have sought a final legal blow against what they call a cruel and archaic ritual
but none of the draft bills presented have ever been approved for debate by National Assembly lawmakers
French courts have also routinely rejected lawsuits lodged by animal rights activists
home to one of France’s most famous bullfighting events
Caron hopes his bill will attract cross-party support
And the idea of a ban does have backing outside his left-wing party
including top members of Macron’s party such as the head of his parliamentary group Aurore Berge
who was among 36 lawmakers who called for a bullfighting ban last year
told Le Parisien: "The cause is more important than political differences
"I will gladly vote for the abolition of bullfighting."
The move to ban it could fail because a majority of MPs fear a backlash in rural areas and bullfighting heartlands where the practice is a cherished cultural tradition
The conflict echoes the widening rift in France between rural dwellers steeped in deep agriculture traditions
and Parisians and other urban residents accused of trampling on the country’s cultural heritage
what is good or bad in the south," the furious mayor of Mont-de-Marsan
Leave us alone with our traditions!" added Dayot
who is vice-president of the Union of French Bullfighting Towns
The law would also ban cock-fighting which is permitted in some areas in northern France
but the first written reference to a bull-running event in France dates from 1289 – as part of law concerning the driving of animals through the streets to the slaughter house in Bayonne
bullfighting events take place in Mont-de-Marsan in the Basque Country
and along the Mediterranean coast in towns such as Arles
It is so popular that regional newspaper Sud Ouest still publishes corrida results from across southern France and northern Spain
Spanish-style corridas have taken place in parts of south west France since the 19th century
with bullfighting events popular in the Spring and Summer months - with the season beginning in late April and running into September
An estimated 1,000 bulls per year are killed in French arenas
while according to the pro-bullfight organisation
the Observatoire National des Cultures Taurines (ONCT)
two million people attend corridas in France every year
there are two more types of French 'bullfighting'
with each team aiming to complete a set of at least 100 dodges and eight leaps
the goal is to snatch a rosette from the head of a young bull
Bullfighting was actually added to the list of France's "cultural heritage" in 2011 by then-French culture minister Frédéric Mitterrand
banned in most of France but is allowed in the south because it is regarded as a cultural tradition
despite complaints from activists that the sport is a form of animal cruelty

The flanker Hazell was dismissed 15 minutes into the second half for following up a flurry of punches on the prop Sébastien Ormaechea with a knee to the head
saying there had been three attempts to make contact with his eyes and that he snapped
Gloucester provided photographic evidence of injuries to Hazell's eyes at the end of the match and asked the citing commissioner John West to review three passages of play
The citing deadline was Saturday night but commissioners are allowed extra time if they feel an incident merits further examination
West could not find evidence after looking at the video from various camera angles to justify citing any of the Top 14 club's players and the regulations do not allow clubs to cite opponents
although he expected Hazell to be suspended for his loss of control
he felt it was important that those who sparked the reaction should also be punished

Warburton had to go to hospital because the finger could not be put back into its socket on the field
He was told on Monday that he will not require surgery and the Blues will wait for the joint to settle before deciding whether to include him against Toulon
a match they need to win after blowing a 15-point lead against the Sharks
Wales next Monday announce their squad for the autumn internationals and Warburton will be fit to lead the side. Gavin Henson may be recalled after marking his comeback from injury with two impressive performances for London Welsh but the club's director of rugby
