Representative Nancy Mace (R-SC) posted a tweet commemorating her graduation from The Citadel
this high school dropout became the first woman to graduate from The Citadel.” The post
which was intended as a celebratory message on The Citadel’s graduation day
was quickly met with a Community Note correcting the historical inaccuracy
According to the correction, the first woman to graduate from The Citadel was Maxine Hudson, who earned a Master of Arts in Teaching in 1970. The Community Note cites an article on the Citadel’s webpage giving the distinction of first woman to graduate to Hudson
While Mace is widely known as the first woman to graduate from The Citadel’s Corps of Cadets—a milestone she reached in 1999—the Community Note highlights the importance of distinguishing between the college’s cadet program and its graduate school

In honor of today’s White Sox announcement that Nancy Faust will return to Sox Park for six games this summer
it seems an appropriate time to reprint Lurker Laura’s terrific and incisive piece from 2018
advocating for greater honor to be paid Nancy at Sox Park
Nancy Faust is getting inducted into something called the Shrine of the Eternals at the Baseball Reliquary
“Shrine of Eternals” is pretty self-explanatory
though; it means “a container for holy relics.” So
this honor recognizes the most awesome of all awesome baseball things
it’s a hall of fame for off-field contributions to baseball
and her incorporation of musical puns as players walked to the plate (drop your favorites in the comments)
Nancy Faust at a Sox game was as sacrosanct as hot dogs
Players and managers and uniform styles came and went
My most vivid memories in my early years as a Sox fan involve three things:
In short, Nancy Faust was a big part of my baseball life, and I wasn’t the only one. As a fan, you felt like you knew Nancy. “Oh, good old classic Nancy,” you’d nod as she played “Walk the Line” after Frank Thomas drew a base on balls
She welcomed fans coming to her booth and saying hello
Nancy’s crowning achievement was her rendition of Take Me Out to the Ballgame
at every other baseball stadium I’ve been to
(Current White Sox organist Lori Moreland also does a top-notch job
The folks at The Baseball Reliquary are getting it right
And I hereby propose that to mark this truly deserved honor
the next statue on the White Sox concourse be of Nancy Faust
raise your hand if you ever get your picture taken next to that plaque
Tell me that you point it out to friends or family who are attending a Sox game for the first time and then proceed to annoy them with stories of your favorite Nancy Faust song cue
because you don’t do either of those things
But I bet your softball-style-1980s-replica-jersey you’d do both if there was a statue
White Sox fans love our “people” as much as our players
Is there another groundskeeper in all of MLB with a nickname
Would Sox fans have rioted if Bill Veeck’s beloved pinwheeled
exploding scoreboard hadn’t been replicated in the New Comiskey
Are we more than slightly peeved that Harry Caray was a true
genius broadcaster with the Sox before he got drunk and rambling and somehow more famous elsewhere
Perhaps we feel this ferocity towards the people who made Sox Park a special place to be because there’s something in the Sox fan DNA to be proud of contrariness
I see your 27 World Series championships over there
Comiskey Park was a magical place for me in the late 70s and early 80s
But I never had a bad time at the park as long as the shower was running cold
and Nancy was there to play Take Me Out to the Ballgame
Nancy was the daughter of the late Ralph and Enid Stewart
her faith was an important part of her life
Judith Stewart Findley and Amy Stewart Green; her brother
Nancy also leaves behind her paternal aunt
A graveside service will take place on Sunday
at 3:00 PM at Sonlight Baptist Church Cemetery
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother
and a devoted daughter of Lee and Elma Pruett of Sanford
Our Mother worked hard to provide a home filled with love
She will always be cherished for her warm personality
“Nanny” was very blessed to have a close relationship and special bond with her four grandchildren
and her six great grandchildren who adored her and will carry on her legacy of love
Her nieces and nephews will miss her generous heart
and she was famous for her excellent home cooking and baking
and she was very proud of her beautiful gardens
“Miss Nancy” loved spending time with children
and her daycare business was very rewarding and successful
Her love of children was one of her greatest virtues
Family and dear friends are invited to a celebration of her life to be held at St
Luke Methodist Chapel on May 17th at 1:00pm
Family will receive friends following the service for refreshments and fellowship in the Parlor
Memorial contributions can be made in her honor to FirstHealth Hospice
currently the Vice Presiding Clerk of Nairobi Monthly Meeting and Chair of the Finance & Stewardship Committee. As a member of the Local Meeting of Friends Church Athi River, Nancy has served in God's vineyard since the year 2011 as a Treasurer and later Presiding Clerk.
Nancy has 20 years of experience in finance and is a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountant (ICPAK) and holder of KCA University Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) Second Class Honours - Upper Division Degree
She is the General Manager of Heritage Foods Kenya Limited
a Kenyan-owned dog food manufacturing company
She provides leadership and management in developing
implementing and monitoring the company's business strategy
policies and processes in line with its vision and values while overseeing various functions and departments to achieve operational excellence
The loss of her presence will be felt by all who knew and loved her
Nancy was born on January 19,1955 in midtown Manhattan - the daughter of a stockbroker father John J
Smith and a magazine editor mother Nora O’Leary
Nancy considered herself incredibly lucky to grow up in the heart of New York City where she savored museums
and fascinating people from around the world
While her parents rose from limited means and educational opportunities
they prioritized and sacrificed for their children’s education - a choice that influenced everything in Nancy’s life
She graduated from the Spence School in NYC in 1973
attended Connecticut College before transferring to Brigham Young University to complete her Bachelor’s Degree in 1977 followed by a Master’s Degree in Journalism and Public Affairs from American University in Washington
Nancy made the life changing decision to become a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
Nancy felt her greatest and most significant identity was as a daughter of God and a disciple of Jesus Christ
She served faithfully in a variety of Church callings
including fifteen years as a Relief Society president at the branch
Nancy believed there was no greater call than teaching the doctrine of Christ
and she particularly loved working with teens and young adults who became her treasured
Describing how her life changed after she was baptized
Nancy often described it as if her life went from black and white to full color
Nancy met and married the love of her life
Michael Smith Nebeker while she was in graduate school in D.C
They began the adventure of a lifetime by immediately moving to Bangkok
assisting Amer-Asian children left behind from the Vietnam War
They spent the first three years of marriage abroad and then returned stateside for Michael’s graduate work and a three-year stint in New York City before returning to Thailand for another seven years
They finally repatriated to the Salt Lake Valley in 1993 to begin their long association with the Waterford School in Sandy
six amazing children were born - two in New York
Teaching each of them how to read and love good books
to appreciate the beauty of nature all around them and to serve and respect folks from around the world brought meaning and purpose to her experience as a mother
spending time at their stunning North Eden ranch at Bear Lake
and playing games together to close out the day were some of her favorite things to enjoy with each of them
some of Nancy’s greatest satisfaction and joy came from her work as the Dean of Students at Waterford School
Nancy had a deep belief in the potential and capacity of young people
and she delighted in helping her students see the opportunity hidden in every challenge
Helping students grow and triumph simply fed her soul
She often told families and students that her door was always open to them
They soon discovered that her heart was always open too
ready to help and support them as they navigated difficult things
Lismore and Reid along with six treasured grandchildren Emma Gage
Her bonus son Marc Gardner (Lilit) has also been a tender blessing
along with her sister Wendy (Chris) and brother Stephen (Sally) and their children

The White Sox are welcoming back a staple of the organization over the coming months
The team announced on Monday morning that famed ballpark organist Nancy Faust will return for a series of special performances on select Sundays throughout the 2025 season
Part of the team’s 125th anniversary season celebration
Faust’s performances are slated to come on the following dates:
“I’m absolutely thrilled to be returning to the ballpark and connecting with fans through music once again,” said Faust in a press release
“The energy of White Sox fans is unlike anything else
and I’m honored to be part of the 125th anniversary celebration.”
The White Sox also added the following in their announcement today:
Widely recognized as a pioneer in her field
Faust redefined the role of ballpark musicians
bringing a gameday soundtrack that features a now-iconic adaptation of Steam’s “Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye,” along with countless crowd-rousing riffs throughout classic White Sox eras from 1970-2010
Faust also revolutionized the in-game experience by introducing personalized musical themes for White Sox players—an innovation that predated the now-standard concept of walk-up music
she debuted a customized rendition of “Jesus Christ Superstar” for Hall of Fame slugger Dick Allen
a moment widely credited as the origin of player-specific walk-up music in Major League Baseball
Single-game tickets to all home games, as well as full, partial and group ticket packages, are available for the 2025 season. Fans can visit whitesox.com/tickets for more information

Republican Rep. Nancy Mace of South Carolina said in a post on X, formerly Twitter
that she was confronted by "a Democrat" in a restaurant on May 1
while a man nearby was experiencing a medical emergency
"A man had a medical emergency at a restaurant tonight. I called first responders right away," Mace wrote. "A Democrat with him got in my face, furious I stepped in to help. Talk about Trump/Mace Derangement Syndrome
I'll always help my fellow South Carolinians
Mace did not specify where or when the incident occurred or provide details on the individual suffering the emergency
Newsweek contacted her office on Friday via online form for further information
This is not the first time Mace has reported a public confrontation. In December 2024, as reported by Newsweek, Mace claimed she was assaulted at the Capitol
"I was physically accosted at the Capitol tonight by a pro-tr*ns man," Mace wrote on X. "One new brace for my wrist and some ice for my arm, and it'll heal just fine. The Capitol Police arrested the guy."
was arrested in connection with the incident
which happened inside the Rayburn House building
and charged with assaulting a government official
Witnesses at the scene contradicted her claims, telling The Imprint and The Hill that McIntyre merely shook Mace's hand at a Foster Youth Caucus reception and asked her a question about the rights of transgender people
In February, as previously reported, Mace accused her ex-fiancé, Patrick Bryant, and three other men of a series of crimes, including conspiring to commit rape
and recording sex acts with her and others without their consent
Bryant "categorically" denied the allegations
Mace's decision to publicly air the serious allegations on the House floor granted her legal protection under the "speech or debate" clause
which shields lawmakers from being sued for statements made during legislative acts
Mace said she was speaking out because her home state's top prosecutor did not take action even after she alerted investigators
Mace, a prominent and often outspoken member of the House Republican caucus
has drawn both praise and criticism for her political positions
She has also been a frequent presence on cable news and social media
where she maintains a highly visible public profile
with close to half a million followers on X
The congresswoman's latest post has garnered 140k views and over 1k comments
Some critics online have questioned the context and veracity of her account of the incident
In response to one X user saying the incident didn't happen
It remains unclear whether Mace plans to elaborate
or file a report related to the restaurant encounter
Newsweek is committed to challenging conventional wisdom and finding connections in the search for common ground

is the 2025 Thomas Jefferson Award recipient
given by the University of Missouri System
honors a member of the University of Missouri community who "through personal influence and performance of duty in teaching
devotion and loyalty to the University best exemplifies the principles and ideals of Thomas Jefferson."
“The Thomas Jefferson Award is so meaningful because it represents commitment to the ideals of reason
free expression and the dissemination of knowledge,” Levit said
“The real honor goes to my wonderful colleagues of 36 years who have made UMKC such an exciting intellectual home.”
Levit is the second person in her family to receive the Thomas Jefferson Award
received the award in 1984 during his time as a philosophy and education professor at UMKC
Marty was drawn to UMKC in part for its emphasis on interdisciplinary education
Marty and Nancy Levit also share a love for teaching and building relationships with their students and colleagues
“The last line of my father’s obituary was appreciation for the thousands of students who enriched his life
and that’s a sentiment I feel every day,” Levit said
“The students are the best part of the job
Watching them find their niche and the things that excite them is so energizing.”
Levit joined the UMKC School of Law as a faculty member in 1988
In addition to the law courses she teaches

“She is a leading voice today on fairness in the workplace
She has enriched the lives of generations of UMKC law students as a gifted teacher
and her service to the university and the profession have no equal
That she now joins her father as a recipient of this award is
Levit’s relationship with the university began through her father
but it has been sustained in large part due to the strong faculty and student relationships that are prominent within the law school
“One of the hallmarks of the UMKC School of Law is that it is a truly collegial and happy place,” Levit said
we tell them to look around because these people will become their best friends and colleagues for years to come
My fellow faculty are terrific at having meaningful conversations with students about their interests and goals and then helping them make connections in the community
Something that UMKC law students learn is to be other-directed
to give back. Alumni come and give back
We have a whole city of lawyers willing to share their expertise with our students.”
Bough has organized several symposia for the UMKC Law Review on innovative criminal sentences
multidistrict litigation and Missouri specialty courts and regularly provides his expertise to students

A disciplinary panel has recommended that Hillsborough County Circuit Judge Nancy Jacobs be removed from the bench after finding she violated various ethics rules in her 2022 campaign
The recommendation came from a hearing panel of Florida’s Judicial Qualifications Commission, which found Jacobs made statements in violation of judicial canons, according to the Tampa Bay Times.
Ron DeSantis judicial appointee Jared Smith
Judicial races in Florida are statutorily nonpartisan
also accused Jacobs of improperly touting support from a political committee affiliated with Planned Parenthood
and an endorsement from Indivisible Action Tampa Bay
which the panel deemed an “expressly partisan organization,” WUSF reported at the time
The most recent hearing found that Jacobs had encouraged a lawyer to run against a sitting Judge and had made inappropriate remarks about a lawyer who appeared in her courtroom
The panel found the combination of findings demonstrates unfitness for office
but represents a vote of at least two-thirds of the six-member panel

At long last, legendary Chicago White Sox organist Nancy Faust makes her return to Sox Park
The fact that Nancy has been away from the park for 15 years and has never once returned to play — the White Sox
have done little to nothing in the past even to promote her occasional organist stints at Camelback Ranch during Spring Training — is an organizational failure that at least is now corrected to some degree
We hope that this news — appearing below in copyedited form straight from the White Sox release — propels the movement for further honors down the line
It is no exaggeration to suggest that Nancy Faust deserves a place in Cooperstown for her contributions to the game
in addition to further acknowledgement from her home team White Sox

bringing a game day soundtrack that features a now-iconic adaptation of Steam’s “Na Na Hey Hey (Kiss Him Goodbye),” along with countless crowd-rousing riffs throughout classic White Sox eras from 1970-2010
Faust also revolutionized the in-game experience by introducing personalized musical themes for White Sox players — an innovation that predated the now-standard concept of walk-up music
Coca-Cola Family Sundays offer specially priced tickets and a postgame Kids Run the Bases promotion (weather permitting)
The gameday experience features balloon artists
kid-friendly activities alongside White Sox mascot Southpaw and a Junior PA Announcer program

The couple own and lease nine properties in Las Cruces
Attorney Maria Armijo expressed concern about Jose Cano and Nancy Cano living together and discussing their cases
Fouratt permitted the couple to continue living together in their home
and imposed no restrictions on the content of their conversations
He said he could not forbid them from communicating with each other because they are lawfully married
Fouratt further ordered that all firearms and ammunition be removed from their primary residence and relocated
Joel Cano said all had already been removed
Fouratt said that he wanted the two to have a chance to convince any other judge they may see that the decisions they made concerning Ortega-Lopez's case did not align with their typical decision-making
Fouratt advised the Canos to take advantage of the opportunity by abiding by all restrictions
then April goal-scoring opportunities lead to May goals
that was lame – and it still rained on Saturday night – but goal-scoring chances came in bunches for the Columbus Crew against Charlotte FC
Saturday night marked the Crew’s eleventh match of the campaign
the Black & Gold entered Sunday morning with a two-point lead atop the Eastern Conference standings
It's normal,” head coach Wilfried Nancy said after the match
We could have been in control a little bit more
I would like to have a game where I can sit
We have grown a lot because if I compare with – I don't like to compare every year
we adjusted certain things and they did well
Dylan Chambost fired the Crew in front with his first goal of the season in the 25th minute
when he tapped in a spilled parry following a Diego Rossi shot

A Charlotte penalty made the match a one-goal game entering the second half
but the Crew responded with a couple of goals
AZ scored when he one-timed a Mo Farsi cross
Columbus scored a fourth when Jacen Russell-Rowe rose up for a lovely heady from a Max Arfsten cross

but it was interesting to see that we can score in many ways,” Nancy said
Now one-third through the 2025 MLS regular season
it’s promising that the Black & Gold continue to generate
There’s a clear growth and transformation from last week’s win against San Jose Earthquakes
and the previous match against Inter Miami CF
the wins came against varying opposing tactics
it was more about the style of play,” Nancy said
this is totally the opposite with a zonal team
the focus was on that to attack different spaces
I like the start that we have since the beginning of the season.”
