On the Grand Prix de Nogent-sur-Oise on Sunday
“La Conti” Groupama-FDJ took another top result
and Ronan Augé claimed his very first podium in a one-day race with the French team
In the bunch sprint that concluded the race
while Lewis Bower finished just outside the top 10 (11th)
One hundred and seventy-two kilometres were on the riders’ menu on Sunday around Nogent-sur-Oise
on an easy route which therefore suggested a bunch finish
“La Conti” Groupama-FDJ expected to have to control the race
while avoiding the tricky scenario of a large breakaway,” explained Jérôme Gannat
even though we had only five riders at the start
The breakaway was caught a bit before the last lap
then it got more complicated because there were a lot of attacks
then a group of eight also attacked with Titouan
Arkéa-B&B Hôtels Continentale had to chase them down and the attackers were caught five kilometres from the finish.”
a bunch sprint did take shape in the streets of Nogent-sur-Oise
where “La Conti” secured a double top-10 back in 2019 with Karl Patrick Lauk and Théo Nonnez
because it was a long straight of almost three kilometres and there weren’t really any teams to lead it out,” added Jérôme
“It was almost every man for himself
We had Lewis and Ronan up there for the final
but they lost each other in the last kilometres
and he was able to secure a nice third place”
and Lewis Bower took eleventh place on the finish line
“It’s another podium for the team”
“Ronan keeps on going after his solid Tour of Britain
it was also a good day because Titouan Fontaine did well
and we had not seen Jens with this form for some time
but we managed well despite this disadvantage”
“La Conti” will be back racing on Saturday for Paris-Vierzon

the flattest stage of the Tour de Bretagne did not end with a massive bunch gallop
but with three riders in a breakaway off the front
when the riders left the coastal town of Saint-Malo and covered more than 46 kilometres in the first hours
a trio escaped off the front including Kevin Cherruault (U Nantes-Atlantique)
Peter Williams (Great Britain) and Quentin Santy (CC Nogent-sur-Oise)
They got and advantage of six minutes until the respective teams of Bol and Le Bon took care of the chase
"My directeur sportif wanted the riders from Roubaix to take turns in the chase
but I refused because we don't defend a 10th place," Daeninck explained
The team's Renaud Dion (Roubaix Lille Metropole) had started the stage in 10th overall
Soon after the trio was caught on the final circuit of Saint-Gildas-des-Bois
another group of three went off the front with with Daeninck

at the 1.1 ranked Grote prijs Jean-Pierre Monsere
The step-up to professional cycling is another milestone for the 22-year-old Corkman

“All the other riders on the team would be British
who has been racing professional in the UK for the best part of 12 years
“He’s done the Tour of Britain a million times and the Tour de Yorkshire every time it’s been on
you’ve got riders with massive experience like that
It’s my first full-year being with a professional team
“Having someone like Pete there really helps to get your head around it
(The current situation without racing) isn’t ideal
but we are hoping to repay our sponsors when racing gets back going again,’’ O’Mahony said
With racing cancelled for the foreseeable future
he’s set to continue his training regime indoors
But he remains optimistic about making an impact for his Yorkshire-based team
Lessons learned from 2019’s highs and lows will stand to him in the long run
‘‘I rode for EvoPro from September and I did five races with them
which I thought I might have been ready for
I didn’t do too well in races and I was getting a kicking every week; physically and mentally
I’m happy I did it and it prepared me for this year
“When you put in so much time with something
success would be making a career out of the sport
making cycling all I have to do every day,’’ he said
He linked up with the renowned O’Leary Stone Kanturk Cycling Club
and his progress since has been remarkable
he has also had two top-10 finishes in the Rás Tailteann and has won the Dermot Hanlon Memorial

It would be more professional-style racing
“You get used to biding your time in a race
you get stronger when you are doing that much training,’’ he said

who have honed their skills at the local club
Cork’s Eddie Dunbar and Paídi O’Brien are among the others
The Kanturk club produce national champions and stars of the future
‘‘You have a lot of people working hard behind the scenes in Kanturk; the likes of Danny Curtin
The club attracts some of the better young fellas from the Munster area
training fellas three and four times a week
I started racing and I started spending all my money on bikes
over the last six or seven years,’’ O’Mahony said

We rode two hours with 1,000 metres of climbing on bohereens and goat tracks
It’s rare that I get to lead the route for the pre-race ride so I made sure my team mates remembered it – though one or two of the guys weren’t too happy about having to do two hours the day before the race
I had a nice view of what was going on from the rear of the peloton
I almost felt like I was floating on the pedals
What followed was a route I’d describe as beautifully brutal
who had been in the breakaway from the start
We assessed the situation; three of us from our team
There was only one other team with the same manpower
I crashed on the final bend of the descent and cracked the occiptial bone in my skull
CONN McDunphy is poised to take a much-anticipated step-up to top-level cycling under the wing of his new team
EvoPro will be fielding riders in a number of the most prestigious races in Europe and McDunphy is relishing the opportunity to complete against the very best in the sport
“I joined EvoPro in July last year” said McDunphy
who previously raced with CC Nogent-sur-Oise in France
“They’re the only Irish pro team and we’re going to start racing in Belgium at the start of March
“We have a service course and team house in Belgium
These are the races at the top of the sport and that’s where I need to be to progress
and so the next step is to try and get results in the top races to try and get on to a better team
“I asked Sam Bennett for advice there last year in the Europeans and he was like ‘just get stuck into any pro racing that you can
because if you’re not winning in your early years at Under 23
they’re not going to look at you for World Tour teams.’
Just get stuck in and see where I go” said the Lucan Cycling Road Club member and former Coláiste Cois Life
McDunphy only returned home to Ireland last week after spending several months in Spain training and he is looking forward to linking up with his new team ahead of the 2022 season
“I’ve been in Spain for three months just really training” he said
“The season ended for me the last weekend of October and I came out here to Girona and have stayed here pretty much since
You don’t have to worry about the weather and we’ve just got a nice training group here
I haven’t had as good a winter’s training ever
“I started working with a new coach in October
Having that is very important” he stressed
While he is not burdening himself with many targets over the coming year
McDunphy is hoping to build on a great season on home soil that saw him finish third in the National Road Race Championships behind Daire Feely and winner Ryan Mullen last October
“They’re all going to be new races for me [on the continent] so it’s hard to know how I’ll fare
but after being third in the National Road Race Championships last year
that’s one I really want to win” said the 2020 National Time Trial champion
I’m just going to play it by ear and see where we go
“I do have some targets in the back of my head
We’ve got some nice races in France and one or two races I did quite well in with Evo towards the end of the year
a lot can depend on what riders turn up and how the race goes” he stressed
