Even if you ignore Versailles, the town names are a giveaway that the department of Yvelines was the former home of the French royals. Marly-le-Roi, Noisy-le-Roi. Just west of Paris
the numerous forests and parks are homage to when the royal family would hunt deer and wild boar in Rambouillet
and when Versailles was little more than a hunting lodge
and the palace is just the gold-gilded cherry on the wealth of places to explore
RER services run to various towns in Yvelines

Inflation has made life more expensive across most of the world
Still, there are some several places in France that can give you a great bang for your buck. French daily newspaper, Le Parisien
looked at data from the governmental statistics agency
to determine which parts of the country are most affordable based on your income level
They gathered data for 614 locations in France with at least 20,000 inhabitants and ranked them based on access to daily necessities
average local wages and cost of living to come up with a list of the places that are most affordable for three distinct categories based on income
with many of the most affordable places being smaller towns
offering the advantage of cheaper living costs plus employment opportunities and access to leisure facilities
Le Parisien referenced les cadres (managers and 'intellectual professions')
These three categories broadly overlapped with high
medium and lower levels of disposable income
In the cadre category - which corresponds to a median disposable income of €37,730 - there were five locations that stood out based on the ranking by Le Parisien
The French daily explained that for people with higher incomes
the focus was more-so on "modern housing with nearby leisure activities"
but they were significantly cheaper than those in big cities like Paris (where median price per metre squared was €9,282 as of December 2024)

The roof qualifies with spectacular discretion the insertion of the equipment in its context
The vegetation protects and perpetuates the waterproofing and allows the retention and regulation of rainwater
allows for a generous initial palette of plants
which will evolve in continuity with the ecosystem of adjacent gardens already present
The roof is also the main tool to characterize the ambiences and comfort inside the single-storey building

Its frames provide a profusion of natural lighting and contribute to heating by solarization in winter
they create precious air currents that contribute to summer comfort

For the next few weeks Bill’s Bites is going to the edge
many readers might have thought we have already been there
with some of the unusual samplings that have been talked about in this space
we are talking about a different kind of edge
Bill’s Bites On The Edge will be a series of stories in which we try restaurants on the edge of the Battle Creek Enquirer coverage area
We are heading to all points of the compass
to the very fringe of our readership to see what kind of bites are worth a little trip to try
First stop is a little east of here in Albion to one of the newest restaurants in the area in the Albion Malleable Brewing Company
MORE: Figgs celebrating 30 years of having 'best burger in town'
MORE: They have pizza at Pizza Parlor, but have you heard about the Wet Burrito?
Best time to eat here is when you are looking for some beer and some bingo
we were greeted by a lot of construction down the middle of town
as the city is putting in new red bricks on the main street in its downtown shopping area
The result is that many of the stores were empty
but that wasn’t an issue at Albion Malleable Brewing Company
which was nearly standing room only as it was hosting one of its fun theme nights
Everyone was playing bingo while sipping some microbrew ale and eating some unique food
Bingo Night was just the backdrop as this new Albion hotspot specializes in some bold-tasting beer
Albion Malleable is inspired by the Belgian beer tradition and offers a wide variety of saisons
they allow for a taste test of three of the beers on the menu
they each brought a different note to the table
we went with Noisy King – an ode to Albion’s French sister city of Noisy-le-Roi
that went very well with our food – but beware it has a 7.4-percent alcohol content as it brings a little kick
you realize right away this is a next-level eatery as the plating is impressive
the idea is that Albion Malleable has decided more is not necessarily better
the specialty is the Porchetta Sandwich – a succulent pork belly wrapped around a pork loin
sliced thin with arugula salad and some shaved Parmesan
But a sneaky good sandwich is the Beef and Cheddar
featuring shaved beef brisket with caramelized onions and smoky cheese sauce
There is a house burger also available as they even take some time to make that right
with 25 percent brisket in the burger patty
LaVall Jordan is one of the top basketball players ever to come out of Albion High School and is the current head coach at his alma mater Butler University
he has also coached at the University of Michigan and was recently the head coach at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
which is featured in one of the tastiest items at Albion Malleable
The Poutine is the top item on the restaurants list of shareable fries
The hand-cut fries are covered with a healthy serving of beef gravy with nice bits of cheddar cheese curds mixed in
We at Bill’s Bites would drive all the way to Albion to just have some more Poutine
There are Fried Cheese Curds also available
but don’t forget to order the Poutine
but if you asked me I’d describe this by saying this is a restaurant that definitely has something good brewing
The Albion Malleable Brewing Company came about when three local guys wanted to help boost their community by providing some unique food and drink
With their passion for their city as their guide
they named it after the Albion Malleable Iron Company
a business that drove the Albion economy for much of the 20th century
Their love for good food also drives what is on the menu
which includes a different take on a side that can often get forgotten in their Siracha Coleslaw – which is a brilliant bite of sweet and tangy and slightly spicy version of coleslaw
Add the artfully crafted items on the main menu and the varied tastes of ale from this new microbrewery and it had the Bill’s Bites crew on the edge of yelling ‘Bingo’ as we had just completed another successful stop on the Bill’s Bites On The Edge series

In partnership with theGrand Paris Est conurbation and a number of local associations
the town of Noisy-le-Grand is organizing its very first Tree Festival on Saturday
with the aim of highlighting the actions put in place to make Noisy greener
The general public will be able to take part in a (participative) tree-planting event at the Grenouillère
or benefit from the distribution of trees (Indian lilac
field maple and many other varieties) and green indoor plants at the municipal horticultural center
there will also be a range of activities - and the good news is that they're free and open to all
So let's head for Noisy-le-Grand, in the Seine-Saint-Denis département

Perhaps you've heard of them, since they served as the filming location for the blockbuster Hunger Games (film number III, part 2)? This building is the Palacio d'Abraxas
a social housing complex inaugurated in 1983 to promote social diversity in the town of Noisy-le-Grand
is the work of Spanish architect Ricardo Bofill
who also designed the Antigone district in Montpellier
and the Lac complex in Montigny-le-Bretonneux..
All inspired by the same neoclassical style and in line with thepostmodernist architecture that gives the buildings their distinctive design
The complex is located in the Mont-d'Est district of Noisy-le-Grand
The massive building has a total of 18 storeys and stands out from the Noisy landscape
which faces the Theater (below): these two parts of the architectural complex are the best known
having been featured in the Hollywood blockbusters the Hunger Games and Brazil
which is why the municipality of Noisy-le-Grand was considering demolishing it in 2010
local residents campaigned to keep the building intact
a renovation of the Abraxas spaces has been under consideration
enabling the neighborhood to be transformed and 800 new homes to be created
What do the feature films Hunger Games (by Francis Lawrence)
Brazil (by Terry Gilliam) and Big Bug (by Pierre Jeunet) have in common
They all feature scenes filmed at the Palacio d'Abraxas in Noisy-le-Grand
if you're dreaming of discovering this unique site designed by Spanish architect Ricardo Bofill in the Paris region
And who better to introduce you to Les Espaces d'Abraxas than a resident of the complex itself
Thanks to training provided by the Conseil architecture
urbanisme et environnement de la Seine-Saint-Denis (CAUE 93)
Espaces resident Samir Rouab offers you a guided tour of his neighborhood
The tour is recommended for people aged 15 and over
hours and takes place in the heart of Espaces d'Abraxas
not far from the Noisy Mont d'Est RER A station
Given that Espaces d'Abraxas is a residential area
it's highly inadvisable to go there to shoot photos and videos under normal circumstances
so these guided tours are the perfect opportunity to discover one of Seine-Saint-Denis' most famous filming locations
