The FIM Motocross World Championship swings into its third round at the classic French venue of the Circuit du Pay de Poursay at Saint Jean D’Angely
The MXGP class saw a dominant French 1-2 at the opening round in Argentina
with Maxime Renaux taking the win for Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP ahead of Febvre
but at last weekend’s MXGP of Castilla La Mancha it was Gajser who had a perfect weekend for Honda HRC
He now holds the red plate and a 20-point advantage over Febvre
it’s Kay de Wolf who holds the red #1 plate for Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing
with a six-point lead over his teammate and Cozar winner Liam Everts
The French crowd will be cheering for last week’s Qualifying Race winner Thibault Benistant
who was injured at this circuit in practice last year and will be looking for better memories as he tries to climb from sixth in the series for Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2
Reigning EMX250 Champion Mathis Valin will also hope to be fit after hurting his wrist in Spain
but he will try to line up for Kawasaki Racing Team MX2 for his first GP on home soil
Top 5 MXGP Standings after Round 2 (of 20)
Honda HRC crew dominate the free practice in both classes
fresh from his first race win and podium a week ago at Castilla La Mancha
it was a 1-2 for the red riders with Tim Gajser on top followed closely by his teammate Ruben Fernandez +0.118
Tim Gajser with the pole position for the second GP in a row as he edges local hero Romain Febvre by almost a second
In the MX2 class Benistant earns his first time practice
Rookie Lucas Coenen won his first-career MXGP Qualifying Race in only his hird start in the premier class
The KTM Red Bull rider led every lap from the begginning
and in the last minutes he manage Gajser´s pressure
Back-to-back Qualfying Race win for Thibault Benistant
but is Liam Everts who claim the Red-Plate by 2 points over Kay de Wolf
Sacha Coenen had a big crash while running P1
GateDrop.com
A dramatic MX2 race saw Thibault Benistant win at home after some late-race craziness to the top two riders
Sacha Coenen was out front having pulled a gap on Kay de Wolf with the Dutchman seemingly locked into second even if Benistant was catching but then De Wolf couldn’t get over an uphill double as his bike ground to a halt with a gearbox issue and the world champ was forced to DNF
Coenen meanhile was out front with a nearly a ten second lead only to get cross-rutted on a downhill and go down HARD
Somehow he got up and still finished sixth but he was holding his ribs on the way back to the pits

It all means Liam Everts who held Camden McLellan off for third is now the championship leader in MX2
something that Liam would not have imagined a month before Argentina when he didn’t know if he would even be able to race
The third round of the FIM Motocross World Championship was held in Saint Jean d’Angely in Southern France for the MXGP of Europe
The normal hard-packed and rocky conditions were unusually wet
which created another obstacle for the competitors to fight against
Tim Gajser once again swept the MXGP races and further extended his points lead
while Andrea Adamo scored his first overall win of the year
Tim Gajser is proving he’s the one to beat once again in the MXGP series
The Honda HRC rider led nearly every lap over the weekend and took control of the lead in race one by just the second turn
Gajser put it on cruise control and managed the lead from the front
He rode away to a safe three-second win over French native Romain Febvre and MXGP rookie Lucas Coenen
Race two saw Glenn Coldenhoff take the early advantage on his Factory Fantic
The Dutchman is fresh off his first podium of the year and used that momentum to lead the first five laps of the second moto
had other plans as he marched his way to the front and overtook Coldenhoff for the top spot
Once again Gajser couldn’t be stopped as he sprinted away to a near 20-second lead
he swept the weekend and further extended his points lead to 29 over Febvre
“It was a good day of racing for me,” Gajser said
even though the track was quite sketchy with deep ruts
bumps and tricky acceleration points—it definitely wasn’t easy to ride
so I was glad to get out front early and take the lead quickly in race one
Lucas [Coenen] pushed hard at the beginning
and then Romain [Febvre] closed in near the end
Febvre crossed the line in second and used 2-2 finishes to take second overall in front of his home fans
especially after a tough weekend last time out,” Febvre said
“My starts weren’t great in either moto and in the second one
I got hit off the start and almost went over the bars
so to come back and finish just 10 seconds off the lead
This marks the KTM rider’s first trip to the overall MXGP podium
“I’m very happy with my first podium and to get that out of the way,” Coenen said
and the track demanded full concentration; at one point
I don’t need to push more and let’s get the podium.’ It’s all part of the process—learning
adapting and building speed with each round.”
The MX2 field saw a new points leader start Sunday’s racing
as Liam Everts’ performance in the qualifying race earned him the red plate
The Belgian rider knocked off a great start in race one and found his way to the lead by lap three
the two factory KTMs of Simon Laengenfelder and Andrea Adamo gave chase and moved into podium positions
This dropped Everts from first to third in the matter of a few short laps
Race two saw tricky track conditions after the on-and-off rains
but the KTM rider crashed spectacularly just a few moments later down the first major descent
This put moto-one-winner Laengenfelder into the lead on lap one
Everts put on a charge from second and passed for the lead
Multiple lead changes gave the French fans something to cheer for as their rider
made his way to the front and passed Everts for the top spot
as former MX2 champion Andrea Adamo tailed Benistant at the front
These two put on a show as they duked it out for the final five laps
Adamo eventually made the pass and held on for the win by just under one second at the line
2-1 finishes gave him the advantage for the weekend’s overall win
with Längenfelder claiming second and Benistant taking third
Everts finished fourth overall but still leads the championship points by three over Laengenfelder and five ahead of teammate Kay de Wolf
“I’m super happy about this win,” Adamo said
I knew I had to win the race to take the GP overall
Thibault [Benistant] and I were pushing to the limit—it was intense but clean racing
I’ve worked a lot on my mindset after last season—learning from mistakes
and trying to turn negatives into something useful.” CN
Sacha Coenen was out front with a big lead in the MX2 qualifying race in St
Jean d’Angely after pulling away from Kay de Wolf and then havign de Wolf DNF with what looked like a gearbox issue
it could not have been going any better until Coenen with just a couple of minutes left in the race got cross-rutted and went down hard
The tough little Belgian somehow got himself gathered up and back on the Red Bull KTM and hung on for sixth but he was holding his back and ribs as he rode
The European MXGP had Tim Gajser (once again) as the great dominator in this season start
with the Honda HRC rider claiming another double victory
In France and at the Saint Jean d’Angely track
Gajser once again had no rivals at his level
and in the first race only Romain Febvre (Kawasaki) provided some “shadow” to the Slovenian
who finished with a 3.930s advantage over the home rider
who had been the fastest in qualifying during yesterday
finished third and ended a long 30.497s behind
Mattia Guadagnini (Ducati) performed well and finished fourth
Rúben Fernández was the fifth-placed rider
it almost seemed like a copy of what happened in the first
with Gajser winning again but this time by a much larger margin: 19.307s difference to Febvre
with Coenen this time staying closer to second place
crossing the finish line just over 2 seconds later
Glenn Coldenhoff (Fantic) was fourth and Maxime Renaux (Yamaha) was fifth and the best Yamaha representative
Gajser claimed all 50 points available and was the big winner of the GP

Camden McLellan had a mixed weekend but still managed to finish eighth overall with a 10-9 result across the two races
Despite showing strong speed in qualifying and moving from 12th to 4th in the qualifying race
McLellan struggled with crashes during the motos
I’m very happy with my feeling on the bike and the steps we’ve made this weekend
We’re definitely on the right track—the speed and fitness are there—but I just need to eliminate the small mistakes
especially as I landed on the podium in Riola last year
so I’m looking forward to the next GP for sure.”
“Camden had a strong qualifying race where he came through the pack
showing the strength and speed that he has aboard the TF 250-X
we couldn’t translate that into the results we know he’s capable of
but everything is there for him to fight for positions closer to the front
We need to put it all together for the two motos on Sunday
There are positives to take away from this weekend
and we’ll continue working hard in preparation for the next one
which was a great race for him last year.”
McLellan now lies ninth in the MX2 standings
and McLellan is eager to return to the sand track
where he previously earned a podium finish

the spectacular Frenchman would dearly love to get “La Marseillaise” played around the hillsides for his fans and Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 team members
With Tom Guyon making history in front of his native fans by racing a Triumph in the MXGP class for the first time, Mathis Valin racing his first GP on home soil
and Quentin Prugnières always fast around St Jean
the local fans have plenty of excuses to make noise and create an incredible atmosphere around the French countryside
Janis Reisulis made two decisive passes on Mancini and then early race leader
to take the lead by lap two and pull away from the win even if Adrien Petit did push hard at the end to close the gap down a little but Reisulis said he was taking it easy and didn’t want to take any risks
Janis Reisulis had a repeat of the first moto

as yet Adriem Petit came on strong late but it wasn’t enough to get close enough to Reisulis to make the pass with Noel Zanocz taking third to underline his talent in his first year on a 250f
Lucas Coenen held off Tim Gajser to win his first race in MXGP and he was pumped with his performance

The injury required immediate surgery in Belgium
where plates were inserted to stabilize the bones
medical clearance allowed the 24-year-old to race at both the Cozar and Saint Jean d’Angely rounds
the Frenchman fought through the pain to salvage 64 championship points
keeping himself in contention as he currently sits third in the MXGP standings
“I broke two metacarpal bones during training on Tuesday before the race in Spain,” the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP rider explained
I fought with everything I had to stay in this championship
it’s still a miracle that I could be on the gate at all
I wish I could have performed better and ridden to my full potential
Renaux now enters a two-week recovery period before the MXGP of Sardegna in Riola Sardo
His medical team expects significant improvement
with hopes that he will be closer to full fitness for the demanding sand race
the third round of the FIM Motocross World Championship
took place at the challenging Saint Jean d’Angely track in France
where unpredictable weather made conditions difficult for all riders
Mattia Guadagnini and Jeremy Seewer from the Aruba.it – Ducati Factory MX Team battled hard to secure strong finishes
Guadagnini made an impressive start in the first moto
moving quickly from sixth to fourth and holding his ground to finish in fourth place
but fought back relentlessly to finish 13th
Guadagnini recovered from a poor start and pushed through the pack to secure a seventh-place finish
earning a fourth overall for the day and climbing to seventh in the championship standings
finishing 10th after a solid effort throughout the race
Both riders displayed grit and determination
“I’m really satisfied with this Sunday in France
We needed a good result and a solid points haul to move on from last Sunday’s race
I got off to a strong start and managed to pull away early
I struggled with arm pump throughout the race
but I tried to avoid making too many mistakes
but I went wide at the first corner and lost several positions
I had a great feeling with the bike and the track
I was aggressive and made several overtakes in the early laps
I’m really happy with how I feel on the bike – this is the most important thing – and I’m confident we’ll get more quality results.”
These crazy conditions just seem to follow us
We’re clearly struggling in these conditions
We’ve already made a lot of progress; we just need more time
and we’re working on it while staying focused on the future.”
The team will be back for the MXGP of Sardegna (ITA) on April 6th
Changeable conditions with bursts of sunshine and showers couldn’t dampen the excitement at the MXGP of Europe
round three of the FIM Motocross World Championships
held at the glorious Circuit du Puy de Poursay in southwestern France
The passionate Saint Jean d’Angely crowd had plenty to shout about
with French favourites Romain Febvre and Thibault Benistant on the podium
though two former World Champions dashed their hopes at the top of their game
made it four in a row with two brilliant race wins
though Romain Febvre nearly hunted him down in race one
who celebrated his first podium result in the premier class
2023 MX2 World Champion Andrea Adamo broke a 20-month win drought
claiming victory in race two after a thrilling battle with Thibault Benistant
Adamo’s ride was a real standout as he wrestled his way to the second race win
ending his long wait for another Grand Prix victory
“I’m super happy about this win—it’s been a bit of a rollercoaster
Thibault and I were pushing to the limit—it was intense but clean racing
three points behind new Championship leader Liam Everts
The reigning Champion had a tougher day in France and now sits third in points behind Laengenfelder
The French fans were full of hope as Romain Febvre set the fastest time in the morning Warm-Up
whose early lead saw many fans searching through their programmes to identify the #300 rider
held on behind Gajser for the first few laps
But Coenen and Febvre soon cut through the field
and Gajser’s main challenge came from Febvre
After a difficult MXGP of Castilla La Mancha
the Aruba.it Ducati Factory MX Team saw Mattia Guadagnini charge into fourth place from an outside gate pick
early Championship leader Maxime Renaux suffered a poor start and crossed the line in 15th at the end of the first lap
falling over Guadagnini’s back wheel and losing fifth to Ruben Fernandez
closed to within a second of him near the final laps
The Slovenian held on to secure his 94th career GP win by nearly four seconds
but it was Coldenhoff who claimed the Holeshot Award despite feeling sore from a crash in practice
with Isak Gifting following closely behind
moving past Gifting and then catching Coenen by lap four
after nearly being involved in a first-corner pile-up that took out Vlaanderen
fought his way up to seventh by the end of the first lap
Gajser had passed Coldenhoff and was putting in the fastest laps of the day
while Febvre continued his fight to take fifth
Gajser took a solid victory to secure his 51st career GP win and extend his Championship lead to 29 points
Febvre moved up to second overall in the standings
and Coenen delighted in his first podium in MXGP
Gajser reflected on his day: “It was a good day of racing for me
even though the track was quite sketchy with deep ruts and tricky acceleration points—it definitely wasn’t easy to ride
so I was glad to get out front early and take the lead quickly in Race 1
acknowledging his tough weekend last time out: “I’m quite happy to finish second
especially after a tough weekend last time out
the track actually got better—it added some challenge and allowed us to make more of a difference out there
Yesterday it felt like a highway—really fast and too equal—but today was more technical
setting high expectations among his home crowd
with Karlis Reisulis taking the Holeshot Award and holding the lead for the first three laps
worked his way forward to challenge Reisulis
with Everts emerging as the first to make a move on the Latvian rider
De Wolf and Benistant were fighting to catch up after less-than-ideal starts
with Laengenfelder eventually taking the lead on lap nine
passed both Laengenfelder and Everts on lap 12 to take second
Sacha Coenen claimed his second Holeshot Award of the year but suffered a massive crash early on
He remounted and bravely fought to salvage 14th
but his hopes for a strong finish were dashed
Laengenfelder held a solid lead but was soon under pressure from Adamo
who passed him in a stunning outside-to-inside move at the top of a steep downhill
Adamo’s move earned him his first GP win since Finland in July 2023
This is a step in the right direction,” Adamo said
moving just three points behind Everts in the Championship standings
narrowly missing out on a second-place finish
The battle for the title in MX2 is intensifying
with Everts still holding the Championship lead
The stars of both classes will now prepare for the MXGP of Sardegna
where they will brush up on their sand skills in anticipation of round four
The race may also see the return of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing legend Jeffrey Herlings
With the EMX125 moto getting moved to the last of the day
they had to deal with the most difficult conditions for race one
It was Faure and Mantovani at the front around the first couple of corners but Mancini was quickly on the move
The Italian made the tough conditions look easy compared to the rest of the riders and ended up winning by more than thirty five seconds
Faure made a mistake but still did well on his MJC Yamaha finishing second ahead of Noel Zanocz who was outside the top fifteen on lap one
Bervoets rode a good solid race to finish in fifth behind Perez
Doensen was fifteenth on the first lap and could only recover to eighth in the tough conditions
McCullough was twenty-eighth on lap one before coming home in fourteenth
The track crew did the best they could overnight and this morning to fix the track the best they could to make it more rideable but it didn’t take long for the track to get sticky and heavy in race two
Faure got another great start but Zanocz flew around the outside of the young French rider to get to the front
Mancini give Zanocz some pressure early in the moto but the Hungarian responded and then pulled away at the front in what was a Fantic 1-2
Faure was looking very comfortable in third but then had a crash with a couple of laps to go promoting Doensen up to third but Faure still did enough to get on the podium with the Fantic’s
McCullough was thirteenth on the first lap but rode really well to get up to sixth and started to catch Ozolins for fifth
He then had a crash over the waves which lead to a DNF as he had issues restarting the bike

the MXGP of Charente Maritime will see the return of Saint Jean d’Angely to the FIM Motocross World Championship calendar for the penultimate round of the 2022 campaign
All eyes will be on the title battle between Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jago Geerts and Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Tom Vialle who enter the second of the French GPs with a 15-point difference in the championship standings
Could the home GP give Vialle the boost he needs to take back control of the lead
We’ll find out at the MXGP of Charente Maritime
the MXGP of Charente Maritime will also host the YZ bLU cRU FIM Europe Cup SuperFinale that will see more than 100 riders of Europe's top-performing YZ125
85 and 65 riders go head-to-head for one of the biggest junior races of the season that will also give them the chance to win an invite to the bLU cRU Masterclass that will see them being coached by former Factory Yamaha rider Brian Jorgensen and some of the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory riders
With Team HRC’s Tim Gajser securing the MXGP title last weekend in Finland
this means the focus shifts onto the other medal places still up for grabs in these final two GPs
these next two races will hopefully be far more enjoyable rather than the stress-filled Finnish Grand Prix and the last couple of races where he hasn't performed as well as he would have hoped
Now with the gold plate solidified on the front of his Honda machine and with great memories from Saint Jean d’Angely from 2019
we will hopefully see the Slovenian back to his old winning ways
Last weekend was also a big one for Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing MXGP who made history with the first ever Yamaha 1-2-3 on an MXGP podium
Glenn Coldenhoff finally made his comeback to the top step of the podium for the first time since 2020 and was able to celebrate it with his teammates Jeremy Seewer and Maxime Renaux by his side
no doubt Coldenhoff will be feeling confident and hungrier than ever for further victories
The Dutchman also moves to third in the championship but cannot afford to relax as Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing’s Jorge Prado and Renaux are not too far behind
For Renaux this weekend will be an opportunity to make up for his result in Ernée a few months ago where he only managed 8th overall after winning the Spanish Grand Prix the week before that
There is no doubt that Renaux has some unfinished business and will be looking to give his home fans a result to cheer about
Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP's Romain Febvre will also be looking to bounce back after an unlucky weekend in Finland that saw him crash in the races and miss out on a podium spot
The Frenchman has been building his strength since coming back at the German Grand Prix and is keen on a podium finish before the end of the season
which he can certainly achieve this weekend on home soil.
Jorge Prado will also be looking to bounce back after finishing 11th overall last weekend in Finland
Prado knows and expects to be performing at the sharp end
but the second half of the season has been challenging for the Spaniard no doubt and with two GPs left on the calendar
we can see him back on the box before the end of the season
He also has the motivation of winning the GP at Saint Jean d'Angely back in 2019 (in MX2) so hopefully
that will give him a much-needed boost too
Honda 114 Motorsports Ruben Fernandez and Gebben Van Venrooy Yamaha Racing’s Calvin Vlaanderen are separated by just 7 points in seventh and eighth position
Vlaanderen will no doubt be looking to score top points to close in on the Spaniard
while Fernandez will be keen on putting on a good performance for his French-based team
2019 MXGP of France (Saint Jean d’Angely) MXGP Top 3: 1
MXGP - World Championship Top 10 Classification: 1
There is no doubt what the focus will be this weekend and that is the MX2 Championship chase
with Vialle entering his home GP with the confidence of winning in Finland
It was a huge win for the Frenchman who didn’t start his weekend on a good note after crashing in the qualifying race
Though he turned things around by Sunday and was able to put in a 2-1 result which put him back on the top of the box and Geerts dominated the last three rounds on the bounce
This weekend will be “make it or break it” for the two title hopefuls
as even the most minor mistakes cannot be afforded – which for us
will make the racing even more interesting
Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Thibault Benistant will be looking to repeat his success of the previous French Grand Prix and get back on the box this time around after a couple of tough races
The last time Benistant was on the podium was back in Czech Republic and with St

I refer to Charles Xuereb’s most interesting article ‘Celebrating 1,000 years of Franco-Maltese connections’
I am slightly puzzled by the fact that when mentioning French politicians with Maltese connections
president of the Rassemblement National and a candidate in the upcoming French presidential elections
a Maltese lady from Alexandria in Egypt and a descendant of one of my own forebears
settled in France and the latter’s granddaughter
another prominent French politician and Marine’s predecessor as president of the Rassemblement National
We Maltese are certainly an eclectic bunch
Further to last Sunday’s contribution by historiographer Charles Xuereb regarding the building of the national library
readers will be surprised to learn that it would take 16 years for the Bibliotheca to come in full use
he appointed the notorious Regnaud de Saint-Jean d’Angely as commissioner
d’Angely ordered the destruction of the great quantity of documents belonging to the Order of St John
documents of incalculable historical value not only to the Order but also for European history.
waiting to be transferred to the new library
would at last be used in a useful manner because the artillery general was in need of old paper for cartridges!
It was therefore ordered that documents with titles of property were to be saved but all the rest of the Order’s archives were to be taken to be made into cartridges
The Maltese Bruno was appointed for this task
He took great pains to drag his feet as much as possible
hoping for something to happen to save the documents
The rebellion of the countryside saved the documents
Civil Commissioner Hildebrand Oakes ordered that the Bibliotheca could start being used as a public library
Although war crimes and atrocities committed by Russia in Ukraine are there for everyone to see
the EU has still not sanctioned Russian gas
It is still sending money to Russia to finance this sacrilegious war because it does not want to hurt itself
Frances Coppola said: “Financial sanctions can break a country’s banking system and destroy its currency
severely damaging its economy and inflicting hardship on its citizens
But financial sanctions can also hurt those who deploy them
And avoiding that pain can render them useless
If the EU really cares about what is taking place
This procrastination will come back to haunt the EU in the future.”
The same thing is taking place in Malta in another sphere
our skyline and our villages are being horrendously ravaged by rapid overdevelopment and not one of the two main political parties said something about it during the election campaign
The reason that this is continuing to take place is that
they are uneasy to vote for the natural environment
It will continue to be an uphill task to defend the natural environment against legal
we will erect a monument in honour of the natural environment
A food-delivery motorcyclist died in a horrific accident after a loaded truck overturned in Marsa in February
we registered 10 deaths on our roads since January 1
we may end up with between 40 and 60 deaths in one year
Ranked on a statistic of deaths per 100,000 inhabitants
this would mean a rate of between 10 and 15 deaths on a yearly basis
The average of the world stands at 18 deaths but the average for Europe stands at five
Denmark and Sweden are at 0 or 1.5 deaths per 100,000 per year
Belgium is at five but Malta would rank with the worst offenders in the entire world
with double or triple the European average this year
This is the first year after the €400 million waste of EU funds given for new roads
What we have is fear of the electorate and of the bullies and car importers who want more roads for more cars and less trees to have wider roads to increase speed
If I were to be in charge of mobility in Malta
I would have introduced a maximum speed limit of 50km an hour on all major roads and of 20km a hour in built up areas and of 10 in village cores
buses and vans and only allow electrical cars with a maximum speed limit engines of 70km
one may have to speed up or overtake in emergencies
I would have no telephones in cars that are moving
Malta is so small that if the traffic flows slowly
everybody would get to their destinations on time and safely
I would ban all vehicles above five tons from the island
What can be done with one trip should be done with many more with smaller electrical vehicles instead
This would save the road surface and the walls of all our village and pavements cores
which have been massacred by the large heavy-duty second-hand imports that spew exhaust and make noise from morning to night
which is a good thing because it would reduce the unnecessary and uneconomical construction projects of today
It would create more jobs for careful drivers of smaller vehicles
Less construction would also reduce the imported labour into Malta by people traffickers during the past 10 years
This can be done over a period of eight years
instead of spending all that money on flyovers
fly-unders and fly-in-betweens that look ghastly and spoil our island
They have been a waste of money and only help lovers of speed
the former minister for roads has been promoted as is normally done to a level above his capacity and will now destroy our foreign relations as he has destroyed our road surfaces
Let us see what will happen at the first international thunderstorm that he will face in our name
Will we see flooding and chaos as we have seen on our roads
