Travel restaurateur Areas has expanded its food & beverage brand portfolio with the launch of a Cojean outlet at Gare Saint-Lazare in Paris
The venue at France’s third-busiest rail station is the first from a series of Cojean restaurant openings planned with the brand and commercial operations partner Klépierre
Cojean operates a chain of nearly 40 outlets across key French cities and makes its travel environment debut with this opening
Cojean was the first fast-food company in France to be certified as a B-Corporation
The company earned this status through strong commitments to environmental and social responsibility
These include the use of a wide range of organic and fair-trade hot beverages; using products from sustainable fishing; reusable
recyclable or compostable packaging; and initiatives to combat food waste
Cojean offers recipes – including vegetarian
vegan and gluten-free options – made from fresh
according to Areas “combine nutritional balance
are designed to appeal to customers seeking healthy and varied cuisine throughout the day
Areas France Concepts & Standards Director Charles Dassonville said: “We are delighted to welcome Cojean to our brand portfolio
This partnership aligns with our ambition to offer varied and responsible culinary experiences to the millions of travellers who visit our spaces each year
Cojean is entering the world of travel retail and has the opportunity to showcase its products and expertise to a wider audience
within one of Europe’s busiest train stations
We are happy to support them on this journey.”
Cojean President Thomas Pluchart said: “We are pleased to collaborate with Areas for this exciting venture into travel retail
Cojean is a brand built on strong human and progressive convictions
where goodness and wellbeing go hand in hand
this brand philosophy is stronger than ever
This new chapter allows us to share our commitments and recipes with an even wider audience
will resonate with travellers seeking a gourmet and responsible break.”
Two additional Cojean openings from the Areas-Klépierre partnership are already planned for other Paris rail stations
Gare Saint-Lazare is one of the seven large mainline railway station terminals in Paris and was the first to open
Welcoming an average of 290,000 passengers a day
the travel hub mostly serves train services to the French capital city’s western suburbs
as well as intercity services towards Normandy using the Paris–Le Havre railway

Although Paris consistently ranks as the top city in any list of the most beautiful cities in France (despite what Lyon residents might think)
Some places stray far from the idyllic scenes of narrow streets where artists in berets paint to the tune of Edith Piaf’s La Vie en Rose on accordion
The Saint Lazare metro station is a perfect example
the association Paysages de France holds the "Ugly France Award," highlighting unattractive places and sights across France
though known for its beauty and poetry (perhaps more so to tourists than locals)
Despite its "City of Light" nickname and its 51,000 annual visitors
the association seems to see Paris as "a bit of the ugly side of France." Last year
it was the massive tarp covering construction at Place Vendôme that dethroned Paris as a beauty queen
the honor goes to the advertising panels that line the floors of the Saint Lazare metro station
earning Paris first place in the "cultural heritage enhancement" category
Prix de la France moche 2024 : le palmarès https://t.co/3hMJ5B82oF pic.twitter.com/yDj0vo6bi5
Though Saint Lazare's corridors see thousands of passengers daily
the association finds these strategically placed panels disruptive in its active fight against visual pollution
And Saint Lazare isn’t the only place affected
the association also calls out Conflans-Sainte-Honorine (Yvelines) in the "Ad Nursery" category for a notable alignment of advertising panels set in gardens along a road
Maromme (Seine-Maritime) is highlighted in the "Danger Sign" category for a large billboard by the riverside
while the town of Le Port in Réunion Island won in the "Olympic Triple" category for SFR ads placed at the top of a telecom tower
It’s a less than flattering outcome for the Île-de-France region
which claims two of the four "Ugly France" awardees
the association sees its awards as a way to "question the role of advertising in spaces designed for travelers" and to "prevent becoming accustomed to ugliness." Its goal is not to disparage France and its less appealing areas
but rather to "open the eyes of those who look past sprawling commercial zones
or relentless concrete expansion in the name of progress and modernity." Perhaps
it’s not such a bad thing to have associations out there on a hunt for ugliness
working to keep France beautiful and authentic at all times

Just over 30 people fell ill at a train station in Paris over the weekend after a man poured a mystery chemical liquid on the floor of a McDonald’s restaurant
The man spilled the orange liquid on the floor of the fast-food site in Gare Saint-Lazare, on Saturday, November 16, before calmly and quietly boarding a train to Caen (Calvados, Normandy), police sources told FranceInfo
after CCTV images and witness reports of his appearance were shared with Paris police
Witnesses said he was wearing a blue down jacket
A security perimeter was set up around the restaurant
and 32 people were taken ill - including 10 in a “relative emergency state” - police said
The people who were taken ill were removed for care
after the fire brigade put a ‘NRBC’ protocol in place
which aims to protect victims exposed to nuclear
the victims did not need to be hospitalised
A total of 10 police officers who responded to the incident also complained of sore throats after inhaling the product
but they did not require hospitalisation either
Early investigations suggest that the ‘mystery’ liquid was from a can of pepper spray
Police are reported to be concentrating on people likely to wish direct ill of Karen Carter who was fatally stabbed on April 29

MOOSOMIN — Julianna Moore may live in Brandon now
people from all over the country will hear what a powerful voice Moore possesses as she has secured a spot on the fourth season of Canada’s Got Talent — one of two Manitobans participating in the national talent competition with the first episode airing on Tuesday
and continues to stay very busy with her musical pursuits
Not only is Moore the lead female vocal for the southwestern Manitoba band Just For Kicks
she’s also an alto with the Brandon-based Konektis choir
plus a music teacher and librarian by day.
Appearing on Canada’s Got Talent is a very big deal as the winner of the competition goes home with a $1 million prize
A total of 105 Canadian acts will appear on stage before judges Howie Mandel
and variety performers from across Canada and beyond will be featured
20-year-old Rebecca Strong from Prince Albert claimed the top spot with her performance of Adele’s Rolling in the Deep
That’s the only way I can describe it is amazing
And unreal,” Strong told the World-Spectator last May of the journey through the competition
“This is the end of my Canada’s Got Talent
The million-dollar grand prize (plus $50 from Mandel) is the largest cash prize in Canadian television history
There are also the six Golden Buzzer selections — acts that essentially receive a fast-track to the live shows
Each judge and the host can press the golden buzzer once per season
plus there’s a group selection as well
Those Golden Buzzer acts also receive $25,000 each from CIBC
The Canada’s Got Talent season ends with a live two-hour finale on Tuesday
May 13 from the OLG Stage at Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls.
The World-Spectator spoke with Moore to learn more about her reaction to making it to Canada’s Got Talent
You’ve made it to Canada’s Got Talent this year—congratulations
I understand you’ve applied previously to this year
Could you tell me about that journey to make it to this season
I’ve been trying since it was rebooted
I kept sending in my videos every year and I never heard anything back
Then I got an email in December of 2023 and they said
‘would you consider participating in Season 4?’ and I said
I’d love to!’ It was a long process
They wanted to hear this song and that song
Do you get to choose which genre you’d like to perform
or is it the judges that determine the music
this is what I typically do,’ and they’ll try to work with that
because it really challenged me to get out of my box in the past year or so—just to try new things
to work on my range and work on my genres of music
Last year’s winner from Canada’s Got Talent was Rebecca Strong
a real powerful Indigenous voice from Prince Albert
How important is it to see people from outside the major cities represented on a show like this
I think it’s so important because growing up—especially coming from St
Having such a big dream and wanting to get my voice out there
I thought it was impossible because you don’t hear a lot of stories of people that are coming from such small places making it big and getting their voice out there
So I think it’s really important for people that are still just starting out or just wanting to make something of themselves
I had a lot of people that I looked up to—Shania Twain being one of them
I don’t believe I’ll be on March 18
They’re supposed to tell me two weeks prior to my episode airing
So I’m just waiting to see and hear from them
but I’m anxious to see all the other performers as well
Music has been a huge part of your life and you are a music teacher currently
Could you tell me about that lifelong love of music and how that’s been with you along the path
my dad would sing around the house quite often
I had a lot of opportunities singing in church or different talent stages and all of those things collectively got me to where I am
Each and every time I’m working with new people in the music world
that has also helped me get to where I am and to find even more love for music
it’s been since I was tiny that I’ve been learning and loving music
not only to get my name out there a little bit more
This is something that I really do want to chase.’ It definitely was a huge moment for me
Two songs you performed during that Star Search really stood out—Crazy by Patsy Cline and Sarah McLachlan’s Arms of an Angel
Is that the style you gravitate towards more
and they have really opened up my eyes to a lot of different genres
That’s what I’m doing with this band as well
We do anything from Fleetwood Mac to Miley Cyrus
I try to make it so everyone hears something that they like
I don’t know what my favorite would be
though I still kind of lean towards country more than anything
singing with a band compared to just doing a gig on your own with your guitar
It really trained my ear and allowed me to trust that I would be carried with them; if I lost my spot
They’re so tight that it really makes me feel like I can actually focus on singing and not have to worry at all
What’s the reaction been from your bandmates
They’re all like second dads—all very supportive and really fun!
but it’s also helped me train my ear even more
It’s great to have all the people around you singing
but you have to know your part to be able to work with your section
and it’s really helped me a lot with my ear
Is everything effectively on hold right now
I’m still doing my gigs here and there
But at one point when we were filming the auditions
it was a lot of back and forth with sending in videos and stuff like that
go,’ but it’s all stuff that I love to do so it doesn’t feel like work
so that keeps me pretty busy throughout the day
Then I sing at a church in Brandon with their worship team
and lots of different shows on my own and with the band
I pretty much have events going on most nights
but it’s all stuff that I love again
It’s lots of rehearsals lots of times
but I find I’m learning a lot throughout the entire process and every rehearsal
Canada’s Got Talent is such a huge promotional launchpad for performers
do you think that’s going to change anything
Is that going to give you more notoriety in the broader spectrum
in the years of sending my auditions in my applications
I just wanted to be able to have a chance to go out there
and I knew that if I was accepted to go on the show
that it would help me a lot regardless of the outcome
There’s lots of people that are reaching out to me and congratulating me
a lot of people are interested in actually hearing me
It’s just really a privilege to be able to have this opportunity regardless of what happens
I was telling everyone I would like to go to Nashville and learn from people and be able to record some music
I think there’s so many things that you would do with it
Do you think this might lead to a Walk of Fame in St
and everything else—I’d just love to be able to make them proud and to say a big thank you to everyone
That’s always going to be my home!

A 21-year-old St-Lazare man is facing sentencing after pleading guilty to impaired driving causing death in a tragic accident that deeply affected the Pointe-Claire community
a vehicle ran off the Sources overpass while the driver was driving at high speed
This resulted in the body of a teen being ejected from the vehicle onto the ground on Donegani Avenue
The tragic crash claimed the life of 16-year-old Noah-Lewis Mercier
who succumbed to his injuries three days after the tragic event while hospitalized
In a shocking and heartfelt appeal to the court
who was not only the person behind the wheel but also her son’s best friend
Parent called for compassion and understanding within the courtroom
we need more thinking of others,” she stated
reflecting her son’s caring nature on the night of his death
Her plea underscored a desire not just for justice
but for healing and community learning from this devastating event
which added to the heavy emotional weight of her plea
as Parent had also lost another son in similar circumstances
Parent made it clear that she did not solely blame Ségaux for the tragedy
highlighting the unfortunate decisions made by both young men on the evening of the crash that caused her son’s death
Her call for leniency was a testament to her belief in rehabilitation and the power of forgiveness
hoping that this tragedy could serve as a lesson for others.
Prosecutor Sylvie Dulude has argued for a prison sentence
emphasizing the need for such a measure to act as a deterrent to impaired driving on a larger scale while defense lawyer Robert Israel advocated for a community-based sentence
highlighting Ségaux’s lifelong guilt and the significant challenges he faces in rebuilding his life following the accident
Israel stressed the impact of the tragedy on Ségaux
who has been unable to resume normalcy due to physical and emotional injuries
Mercier was the step-son of CAQ MNA Marilyne Picard
The decision in the case will be rendered by Judge Jean-Jacques Gagné

Caution: avoid the Gare Saint-Lazare area, where a major fire has broken out. The incident began shortly after 9 a.m., when the Paris Fire Brigade (BSPP) was called to a fire at the top of this emblematic building opposite the Cour de Rome
ravaging the roof and projecting thick black smoke visible from several kilometers away
while firefighters worked to contain the blaze and prevent its spread to neighboring buildings
The complete evacuation of the building prevented human tragedy
The residents were cared for and only one minor injury
faced with the height of the building and the intensity of the flames
A command post was set up on site to coordinate operations
addAsync('//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js');
many Internet users are sharing images of this impressive event
while firefighters are urging people to avoid the area and avoid clogging up emergency lines
Although the fire was largely under control by late morning
firefighters are still working to secure the entire area and prevent any secondary flare-ups
The origin of the fire has yet to be determined
but witnesses report falling tiles from the burning roof
This event serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance in an urban environment
especially in a district as busy as Saint-Lazare
a real crossroads for Parisians during the holiday season
remain cautious and follow the recommendations of the authorities
armed suspects broke into a residence on rue Du Chêne
in the Vallée-Chaline district of Saint-Lazare
Two people were on the premises and suffered injuries that do not suggest any threat to their lives.
“The suspects wanted to obtain the contents of a safe on the premises
leaving the occupants of the residence with injuries
A suspect vehicle was located further away
and forensic tests were carried out on it during the night
and the investigation has been turned over to the Sûreté du Québec's Major Crimes Division,” confirms police spokesman Jean-Raphaël Drolet.
According to a citizen who witnessed the scene and contacted Néomédia
the Vallée-Chaline area is particularly prone to this type of crime
there have been a lot of cars driving around
so it's definitely easy for thieves to sneak onto lots and enter houses
We really need more police surveillance in the neighborhood,” he confided on condition of anonymity.

Saint-Lazare’s elected officials adopted a $46.2 million budget and a 1.8% property tax increase on December 10
Saint-Lazare plans to allocate $16.6 million
Nearly 20% of the budget will be directed to various contributions
the administration projects $33 million will come from property taxes
the city expects to collect $3.6 million through transfer duties
“I’d like to first thank all the departments for their tremendous work
along with significantly more responsibilities
which relies primarily on residential taxes to sustain operations and provide services to its citizens
this situation will soon become unsustainable,” said Mayor Geneviève Lachance
emphasizing that this issue is not unique to Saint-Lazare but is faced by municipalities across Quebec
Saint-Lazare will implement a new three-year property assessment roll starting in January 2025
This increase has significantly impacted the budget's formulation
The average value of a single-family home has risen from $467,600 to $702,694
while the city’s standardized property wealth has climbed from $3.8 billion to $5.7 billion
there’s a 50% increase for an average home
Similar trends have been observed across Quebec in municipalities with updated rolls
municipalities adjust their tax rates to account for this increase
the rate may vary depending on how a property’s assessment compares to the average home,” added Mayor Lachance
Homeowners can therefore expect a 1.8% increase in property taxes
equivalent to $66.01 for an average residence
the council adopted its three-year capital expenditure plan for 2025
The mayor clarified that this is primarily a planning tool and that the projects listed are not “set in stone.”
an estimated $50.6 million will be allocated to various projects
Details of the 2025 budget will be available on the City of Saint-Lazare’s website under the "Budget and Three-Year Plan" section

The Impressionists frequently paid tribute to the modern aspects of Paris
Their paintings abound with scenes of grand boulevards and elegant
as well as achievements of modern construction such as iron bridges
Gare Saint-Lazare was an especially appropriate choice of subject for Claude Monet in the 1870s
where Monet’s technique of painting outdoors had been nurtured in the 1860s
was also the point of departure for towns and villages to the west and north of Paris frequented by the Impressionists
Monet completed eight of his twelve known paintings of the Gare Saint-Lazare in time for the third Impressionist exhibition
Monet chose to focus his attention here on the glass-and-iron train shed
where he found an appealing combination of artificial and natural effects: the rising steam of locomotives trapped within the structure
Monet’s depictions of the station inaugurated what was to become for him an established pattern of painting a specific motif repeatedly in order to capture subtle and temporal atmospheric changes
But the series also represented his last attempt to deal with urban realities: from this point on in his career
Monet would be largely a painter of landscapes

Black 2023 Jeep Wrangler Sahara: photo of the suspect vehicle that authorities have identified in connection to the hit and run incident that occured on Côte Saint-Charles In St-Lazare on January 7
A hit-and-run incident in Saint-Lazare has prompted local activist and Red Coalition founder and President Joel DeBellefeuille to take action
offering a $1,000 reward through his foundation for information on the identity of the responsible driver
The incident occurred on January 7 on Côte Saint-Charles near Rue du Cumberland
where a young man in his twenties was struck while walking
In an exclusive interview with The Suburban
DeBellefeuille revealed disturbing details about the incident
including that the driver stopped to inspect damage to the vehicle before fleeing the scene
“It takes a special kind of person to leave someone in a pool of blood,” DeBellefeuille said to The Suburban
The incident hit particularly close to home for him
as persons he has close relationships with frequently walk along the same stretch of road where the collision occurred
The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) has identified the suspect vehicle as a black 2023 Jeep Wrangler Sahara
Evidence collected at the scene includes parts of a bumper and a side mirror
with investigators noting the vehicle likely sustained damage to its right fender and side mirror
who encountered police blockades in the area while returning home that day
has been actively involved in raising awareness about the case
“This person will be caught — there’s no doubt about it
The victim was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries
after he managed to crawl back to his home bleeding quite severely
Local law enforcement has expressed gratitude for the foundation’s involvement in the case
which has helped maintain public attention on the investigation
noting that he’s been particularly alert to any vehicles matching the description of the suspect’s Jeep
His foundation’s reward offer underscores a community-driven effort to bring closure to this case and ensure justice is served
His social media post has reached thousands of viewers and continues to be shared on a daily basis
The SQ is urging anyone with information about the incident to contact their Criminal Information Centre at 1-800-659-4264

Ville de Saint-Lazare recently acquired two lots on Chemin Sainte-Angélique with a view to selling them to the Toit d'abord organization
Toit d'abord would like to build affordable housing for targeted clienteles
couples and individuals with modest incomes who currently spend more than 30% of their total income on housing
as well as people with special needs.
The lots acquired by the municipal administration are numbered 3,502,980 and 3,503,000 and are located on chemin Sainte-Angélique
They are located at 2080 and 2090 chemin Sainte-Angélique.
The land currently contains buildings that are certain to be demolished to make way for the community real estate project.
The offer to purchase the buildings and the promise to sell were signed on September 5 by the general manager
The amount of the transaction is $1.6 million
to be drawn from the unallocated operating surplus as at December 31
located within an optimal living environment
but also for the walkability and availability of the lots,” we wrote by e-mail to Néomédia
The resolution adopted on September 10 specifies that
the lots must be free of contamination or environmental constraints that would prevent the project from going ahead
the lots are sold without warranty of any kind
including the legal warranty provided for in the Civil Code of Québec.
Toit d'abord has applied to the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal for a subsidy of up to 20% of the cost of acquiring the lots

Water meters will begin to be required in all non-residential buildings in St
according to a new bylaw set to be approved by council next month
The move is the result of the municipality failing to meet water-usage targets set by the provincial government
“It is being imposed on us to reduce consumption,” said St
Lazare Mayor Geneviève Lachance in an interview with The 1019 Report
all homes will have to be equipped with the devices to track their water use
only 60 homes will be fitted with meters to provide municipal officials with a sampling of the level of individual household use in the residential sector
The selection of these homes will be on a voluntary basis
all new homes built after the bylaw is approved will have to be constructed “in anticipation of the installation of a meter,” the proposed bylaw states
“The government requires this because we did not meet the objectives,” Lachance said
referring to the Rapport annuel sur la gestion de l’eau potable
which the provincial government issues outlining the levels of water usage within the town
the provincial report that looked at water consumption recorded in 2021 included a clear warning: “If the municipality exceeds one of the objectives in the 2021 balance sheet
the installation of water meters in all non-residential buildings (industries
municipal buildings and on a sample of 60 residential buildings will be required progressively by Sept
like restricting the washing of driveways and banning car-wash fundraisers
and public awareness campaigns to encourage a reduction in usage have helped reduce the amount of water being consumed on a per-capita basis in the last few years
water use in the town remains above the provincial targets
Lazare was estimated at 194 litres per person per day
10 litres above the provincial target set at 184 litres
water use in the municipality was 211 litres per person per day
That follows previous years of even higher water usage
Lazare was estimated at 224 litres per person per day
“We are using too much water,” Lachance said
explaining the issue is not strictly a function of water shortage
Providing potable water is one of the most expensive services provided by the municipality
adding provincial authorities are moving slowly toward imposing a “pay per use” model
“We are pretty much going that way,” Lachance said
but stressed there is no estimated timeline for when water meters would be required in all homes
Lazare is not the first municipality in Vaudreuil-Soulanges to impose water meters
Residents of Notre Dame de l’Île Perrot are required to submit their water meter readings to the municipality every summer

Lazare council last week moved to municipalize one of its last two remaining private streets
removing the last barrier preventing the building of more residential dwellings along the artery
council approved two bylaws affecting the private stretch of Sandmere Street on Aug
including reducing the minimum width of lots permitted from 50 to 37 metres and dropping the minimum front setback from 12 to 10 metres
These changes will allow an estimated 42 to 44 single-family homes to be built on Sandmere in the Saddlebrook area of the town
The group of 24 property owners along the private artery are breathing a sigh of relief as the change was finally approved
bringing them a significant step closer to selling their lots after years of waiting
The western portion of Sandmere – one of the last private roads in town – is home to four houses and dozens of lots
Owners of the lots have spent years pushing for the municipalization of the street
as its private status has made it impossible to build on their properties and difficult to sell off
These owners have nevertheless been paying taxes on these plots of land
No more than 20 per cent of the existing trees can be removed if a house is to be built on the lots
Lazare Mayor Geneviève Lachance,“to reduce the impact of residential development on the forest ecosystem” within the area
Lachance also pointed out that this number of new houses would be consistent with the current density in the area – 2.7 dwellings per hectare
She also highlighted the fact that the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal (CMM) is in the process of drafting its 2025 Plan métropolitain d’aménagement et de développement (PMAD)
which will likely call on the municipalities like St
Lazare to densify to around 40 dwellings per hectare
If the proposed CMM plan is eventually approved before the area along Sandmere St
the new housing density ratios could see as many as 880 units built instead of a maximum of 44
“I think it’s clear that all of us don’t want that high density in that sector,” Lachance said
“We would rather be in control of the development now while we can
Allowing these changes would help solidify the low-density aspect of the project before the PMAD is implemented in our bylaws.”
“That was very much a relief on my part and everybody else’s too,” Dodds said
Dodds and her husband had purchased the property when they were in their 20s and were among those who helped build the road that became Sandmere Street
She recalls when the municipality “arbitrarily” declared that Sandmere would become a private street in the 1980s
Dodds explained her frustration over the years in trying to get the street municipalized
She noted that she and the other lot owners – many of whom are also seniors – would like to finally get these properties off their hands and use the revenues to help their families
“I’ve got two daughters and four grandchildren,” said Dodds
Several residents have repeatedly expressed their opposition to a development project that would see a portion of the surrounding woodland destroyed to make way for housing
Objectors to the project had turned out en masse to a public consultation meeting July 30
Several expressed their concerns again during question period Aug
David Hill was the only member on the council to vote against both zoning change which was approved by a majority of council
Hill explained that he believes his vote was an “accurate reflection” of the will of the constituents in his district
Though he wrote that agrees with certain articles of the bylaws
including efforts to reduce tree cutting and protect forest cover
he stated that the deforestation of the lots for development
would be unwise under the circumstances of climate change
“At a time when the effects of the climate crisis are being felt so intensely by so many of us
the deforestation of this pristine forested area does not seem prudent,” Hill wrote
The next step is for town officials to meet with developers to discuss a way forward

MONTREAL – As part of the Club’s ongoing growth and development objectives, CF Montréal announced Monday its Scouting and Development Centre has renewed its partnership agreements with both FC Loro and the Saint-Lazare/Hudson Soccer Club for a three-year period.
In doing so, FC Loro and the Saint-Lazare/Hudson Soccer Club join FC Laval and the Brossard Soccer Association in their commitment to this revised consultative partnership allowing participating clubs to directly benefit from CFMTL’s top-level resources. FC Laval was the first amateur club to join the Scouting and Development Centre’s revised format on September 24, while the Brossard Soccer Association followed suit on October 8.
“Our intention with this CIP program is to work with clubs that share the same values, where a player-centred approach is taken and where development is the priority. FC Loro and the Saint-Lazare/Hudson Soccer Club share these values, and we want to support them in continuing to create this type of environment for their players,” said the Director of Youth Develepment at the Club’s Academy Marinos Papageorgopoulos.
“Solidifying a unique partnership in the region of the Laurentians with CF Montréal is a milestone that we can all be proud of. We truly believe that CF Montréal’s high levels of professionalism will continue to enhance all the current player and coach development programs we offer," noted FC Loro Sporting Director Massimo Di Ioia.
“FC Loro has undergone significant change over the last year and the partnership with CF Montréal will continue to make a positive impact on developing the game in the communities of both Lorraine and Rosemère,” added FC Loro President John Paul Moutinho.
The CF Montréal Academy developed a revamped strategy aiming to leverage synergies and a more sustained collaborative relationship with the soccer associations across the province. Partner clubs will benefit from innovative, privileged, and strategic access to the expertise of the Academy's technical staff, both at the sporting and management levels.
Launched July 2, 2019, the Scouting and Development Centre is a high-performance development and identification program developed by the Club’s Academy and its educators. The initiative includes visits with partner clubs and is part of a broader desire to share the Academy's knowledge, training and methodologies in order to strengthen ties with the Quebec soccer community.
Monet painted the series of 12 canvases in the space of three months in 1877–the first time he consciously conceived a group of works as a whole. “It is pretty much unprecedented to have two pictures come up at auction like this,” says Keith Gill, Christie’s head of the sale, adding that the timing is “complete coincidence”. The painting will lead Christie’s Impressionist and Modern sale on 20 June.
La Gare Saint-Lazare, Vue extérieure (1877) comes from the collection of Nancy Lee and Perry Bass, the Texan couple credited with transforming Fort Worth. “It is one of the most important paintings by Monet to be sold in London in the past 20 years,” Gill says.
Partially painted en plein-air, the series is much more complex than Monet’s later pictures of waterlilies, which were created on the spot in short spaces of time (he painted some 250 water-lily paintings over the final 30 years of his life).
Nine of the Gare Saint-Lazare series are in public institutions. These include the Fogg Art Museum, part of Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts; the Art Institute of Chicago; the National Gallery, London; and the Musée Marmattan and the Musée d’Orsay, both in Paris. Two are currently on show in the National Gallery exhibition, Monet & Architecture (until 29 July).

It was this weekend, February 15 and 16, that the Comité des Fêtes du 150e de Saint-Lazare held its first festive activities. Despite the vagaries of the weather, citizens responded in large numbers to the invitations of the volunteer citizens' group in charge of celebrating this historic moment for the Town of Saint-Lazare.
On Saturday February 15, field hockey fans gathered at the Complexe sportif Saint-Lazare, where the Anciens Canadiens took on the Saint-Lazare Stars in the afternoon. It was the wearers of the blue-white-and-red jersey who emerged victorious from this friendly contest with a 10-6 win.
Before the game, a BBQ was held outside the arena. The event was attended by political dignitaries, including Saint-Lazare mayor Geneviève Lachance and Vaudreuil-Soulanges MP Peter Schiefke, as well as citizens. Former Sainte-Flanelle number 27 Gilbert Delorme also attended the event.
The following day, Sunday February 16, the festivities moved to Parc Nature Les Forestiers, where a bed race and antique snowmobile exhibition took place. The winter storm outside didn't dampen the enthusiasm of participants, according to Paul Lavigne, president of the Comité des Fêtes du 150e de Saint-Lazare.
“The weather didn't help, but all the teams registered for the bed race turned up and had a great time. The snowmobile trails, on the other hand, were very snowy and not very rideable, but a good thirty antique snowmobiles braved the conditions to be there. The 6 highly motivated and enthusiastic teams took part in the bed race, the first of its kind in North America,” he says.
The teams who managed to take top honors were: Distillerie 3 Lacs, who took the Saint-Lazare Cup. The team was closely followed by Robert Daoust et Fils. Third place went to the Ville de Saint-Lazare recreation team. The Remorquage Saint-Lazare team won for the most beautiful bed, while Source d'Entraide took the prize for the most beautiful costume.
The day after the festive weekend, Mr. Lavigne gives a positive assessment of the event, despite the cold weather and snowfalls.
“It was a success all round. The pre-game BBQ on Saturday was very well attended, and the fun-filled field hockey game was sold out. Despite the weather on Sunday, people loved the program, which they found original and innovative. Everyone is really looking forward to the next activities,” he confides.
On May 24, interested parties will be able to attend the Fête des vents at Saint-Lazare airport. The event will feature the largest giant kite flyers in Quebec and Ontario in a breathtakingly magical show. These masters of the wind and their twenty or so astronomically-sized kites will blow visitors away.
Two hot-air balloons will also be on hand, offering young and old alike the chance to climb up to 50 feet and admire the scenery from above.
